Can't you just queue up against them and then bring all the battleship counters
yes
I guess that's what grandar did in that wargame
and then they get salty about it
the hilarious thing is that if they ever actually got historical battleships they would never stop screaming about it
Finally someone said what I think about the state of ANS bias
It literally works yeah
historical battleships autowon every gunfight but never got deployed and periodically sunk to one "missile"
This is such an alien mindset to me hahaha I am glad I am learning about this. A glimpse into their world I guess
and then they went and compained to the point that most of the anti-capital counters don't work anymre
Now, I wouldn't say it's exactly an absolute rule - Aneta's also a battleship enjoyer
But people like Aneta also understand and respect it when they go around a corner blind and die instantly to a torpedo
you too, huh?
yeah you can enjoy playing potemkin without having brainworms about it
but a lot of people are covered in worms
this is why you send the expendable corvette around the corner
Rather than whine that their Krupp steel should be impenetrable from the front, devs with freaking allied bias, fix this
This is a problem with the internet tbh
now I want to make literal Battleship Potemkin with the correct colour scheme
the only thing I know about Strive is the one meme where they used the IRA quote for Potemkin Buster
The world is filled with worms
Is you Battleship potemkin going to be a potemkin battle ship as well?
Never joined them 'officially', was present for some of their ops and know a lot of people surrounding the community
And the youtuber himself is...
Suspicious, ideologically speaking.
yeah that's about my position, although I never played with them
Another guy whose group drops R-slurs, incidentally, which is why we stopped watching his vids
(Cadian XX is Rimmy, right?)
The very same
oh yeah I watched like 1 rimmy video and then blacklisted them
I hold out hope for the Ignis guys sometimes since I know a couple of them and they're decent people, but I haven't actually played any Arma in forever so I've never been on an op with them
yeah it's like me and aneta and Till all go "he's a bit gamer-brained but I haven't seen anything too bad" (or me and Aneta did, anyway, don't remember if Till did) and - whoops
no idea what the unit culture is like
rip
i've been called a redarmyaboo but that's only because they're novel and strange to me
I... have a dream. A dream where I can say the word "opfor" and not run into a slur 5 minutes later.
I'm gonna keep pursuing that dream
Another component to the whole chuds in wargaming spaces is that people often think of soldiers and hardbitten officers as just like slurring all over the place as a direct effect of being tough and cool
Yeah, Space Marines.
"Making the tough choices" mentality.
So they think them slurring ups their military-esque cred
and period films often do include a lot of slurs yeah
inviting a joke "What's an opfor?"
Soldiers throw around slurs like crazy, whether they grow out of that is another matter entirely
ligma balls
I don't think space marines know what normal slurs are honestly
Just like, weird insular future ones
Dammit I was this close to 'Opfor deez nuts'
Yeah which is pretty accurate cause they were racist back then, not because it's inherent to soldiers
Always heard chuddy sounding army guys like "It was a hard decision but I did an ethically terrible thing for a minor advantage"
At least two slurs for asian people come from american wars
there's an interesting anglo-american cultural split here because in America the officers are hardbitten operators operating operationally and in Britain the junior officers are all fresh-faced 19 year olds in gay love affairs who will die in Act 2
different WW1 brain
We knew of one wargame that we neer meet a chud when we competativaly played it, or at least non that showed any more assholery then you might see on the street. But mechclix got caned over a decade ago so
What is opfor? (serious)
opposing force
Opposing Force
Opposing Force
Opposing force
there we go
Something that tickles me about warhammer is how dark and gritty it touts itself as but they won't just let them say fuck
I have a little clock that I start whenever this kind of conversation gets going and stop whenever everyone answers the same question at once
Playing Darktide its just kark this and grut that. You sound stupid
PG13 Grimdark! Gotta sell model kits for Christmas.
return to saying frak
Well this was a very disappointing turn of events but i'm glad I got to learn about battleship nazis lol
If I have to explain to someone why the Bismarck was horrible one more time
Gravelly space marine voice "What the frick"
My favorite is still "frak" from Battlestar Galactica.
I'm also torn because space marines are simultainiously a weird hyper-insular monkish cult, and also a weird frat house which exclusively recruits 13 year olds
tbf I do feel like most Space Marines wouldn't swear much
I actually think it's very cool and funny when fantasy settings make up their own words for fuck. Like Star Wars has "kriff". I dunno it's just a cool touch like when they say "by the white hammer of Azula!" instead of "oh my god"
I like seeing bizarro fantasy interpretations of ordinary concepts, I guess
normally I'm on the side of "treating all fascist stuff as ludicrous failproject idiot ideas is just as bad as going Ra Ra Tiger Best when it comes to proper historiography" but the Bismarck did just actually suck
so did The Twins
[Reply to:](#1163326355878981662 message) If I have to explain to someone why the Bismarck was horrible one more time
Like how much does the Aspirant Hall of your average fortress monestary sound like a CoD lobby?
but the peeps in Darktide should absolutely be going on deeply explicit rants and ravings involving improbable events and verbs involving exotic organs, featuring lots of improvised compound words
Even that song is giving the Bismarck too much credit
yeah it's kinda funny how tame warhammer is when you really think about it
like all that grim darkness and nobody can even say fuck
because that's a bad word
iow they should swear like I do, but less squeaky and more gravelly.
fair
It's what happens when you let British Liberals write satire
Unseen Ops on twitter also posts pictures of military equipment while being a french anarcho-communist
cool dude
I do like "blood and ashes" from Wheel of Time
30k includes about seven novels that are basically just Space Marine Yaoi but can never actualy say it, it's very funny
especially cause it gets warped into like "ashes" or "blood and bloody ashes" or "bleeding ashes" or a number of such variations
TBH Blood and Ashes sounds like a real oath
Dresden Files has three different fantasy swears (hell's bells, empty night, stars and stones) and I think they're all cool
if Horus Heresy had very slightly different marketing it would have a gigantic Tumblr shipping community
It already has a small one
precisely
I love netflix's castlevania. "God shits in my breakfast once again"
Horus heresy is nerd WWE
I don't really like a lot of Warhammer 40k stuff except for specific things my partner shows me because it knows I love that kind of aesthetic, but that speech about being disgusted by the inpurity of the flesh was great
I think about that all the time
Exactly, and that's why it's cool
the Admech consistently have the best aesthetic, I am not biased
it's not even a swear but it's so hilariously good
I did feel like they went a bit overboard with it in some cases (by which I mostly mean Varney, he felt really basic in a way he shouldn't have)

i wish more wargames or media in general drank from the cold war armies well
Oh I agree so much
(ashley says: "gonna lock this thread"
one hour later...)
(no I was thinking of locking it eventually but honestly talking about this is good)
I just need more air cav that isn't Standard Scifi Magic Dropships
I'm struggling to think of one that does aside from cod and niche shit like wargame
yeye I'm not complaining
Oh gosh what happened lmao
(like we're all kinda sad and mad it's okay to just have a community hug over this)
it's just kinda lingering at the back of my mind, like a funny thought
Fuckssake
Yeah that's how we all felt
Warhammer actually draws pretty heavily on cold war aesthetics
dev dropped a slur and defended it really weirdly and problematically and got dropped in return
Honestly i hate that Im not that surprised
Correction: did
So according to the conversation above it's optimal to go to an LGS filled with Nazis and then take a deck that hard counters Caesar's Legion to farm free prizes, right?
Like how boltguns are basically some strange looking UK smg from the 80s
I should also hit everyone I know with a stick until I actually get a Barotrauma or Pulsar: Lost Colony campaign together because I want to do boat stuff, but my last seven attempts have all failed
I think it still does a fair amount tbh
I wonder if there's enough Pulsarheads on this server
Wait really??
I suspect the MtG community doesn't quite work like that
but in principle, yes
Metal Gear esque Cold war futurism wargame would be fun. Abhrams tank with a laser turret and 90s chocolate chip dessert cano
I think warhammer has elements of cold war things, some imperial guard or space marine tank or w/e has rounded early soviet style turrets
I keep trying to play Baro with this server, getting two sessions in and then watching everyone disband
Mechs named like the ones in muvluv
yeahh
Probably because people start getting more interested in playing optimally when you actually have prizes on the line 😦
Oh it does, in fact a lot of the early 40k vehicles are very cold war
not the recent ones though, those look like Mario Kart designs
Metallurgant
Barotrauma is tricky. I've had a consistent group going for a bit but timezones are rough and it's a group in which everyone's already pretty damn good friends and/or dating in various combinations
when Pulsar is next on sale I'll grab half a dozen copies and see if I can rustle up a group for weekly Knockoff Star Trek/Firefly/Space Free Trader adventures
I guess my understanding of 40k tanks ends at the leman russ and the hammerhead
it's a good one that nobody has ever heard of
although the graphics are nothing to write home about
Speak for yourself, I've done an entire podcast episode about it and played the submarine campaign to completion
for me Pulsar definitely has the issue that I want something like Barotrauma in space, and Pulsar isn't quite that
But yes it's really good
Yeah I have a different weekly baro campaign going but that does not satisfy the crave
I was so excited for some helicopter bullshittery
I can see how it'd scratch different itches for different people
rare case of "ship management sim" where everyone actually has a job other than Ship Chores
oh that dose sound intersting
I would also like to play Baro but in the absence of a real group I will accept that I will never actually get to do any gene modding
y'know what, now that we've kinda shifted away from firelock talk in general - gonna point people at our https://discord.com/channels/426286410496999425/1161730220164911187 thread
Yeah I forget the model but some oldhead pointed it out to me and it was pretty clear
go forth, discuss games, and share cool new ones! o/
A bit of a necro response. But my dating a psych major compels me to mention that mental illness is not the same as mental disability. Now granted I'm assuming the slur a bit for this. And ultimately yeah bad vibes with their response. But figured I'd mention the language distinction as like a PSA.
Damn missed a very important "not" there. Ok fixed lol
this feels like a really persnickity distinction to make that I doubt the original poster did
I mean as someone who has what is likely both mental disability and mental illness respectively. As well as having partners with similar situations. The distinction matters to me personally.
But to be clear this is in no way a defense of the person using slurs. Like fuck them honestly. This was very much just me wanting to PSA a language thing.
But apologies if I came off pedantic or as a devil's advocate. Very very much not the intent. But yeah sorry to bother.
it's a bit pedantic and that can be annoying in the wrong context or with the wrong delivery but tbh I've also got kinda both categories of things going on so I get it
Yeah. Just due to like personal lived experience the distinction is very sorta felt. But I do get in causal general convo it's much less uh concrete a differentiation generally.
So I'll fully admit it's a thing informed by perspective.
yeah in this case I kinda didn't really notice it because the meaning behind the statement was "fuck this guy in particular for being an ass"
And the precise words just kinda don't register as much
Yeah that's fair. I'm rarely in chats when it comes up but I just happened to be hawk eyeing in this forum lol
So just sorta weird/bad timing.
This is fucked up but also really funny to me
linking this again because like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AyWIbZD7vg
yeah, it do be like that
damn, that's one way for a sub-community to die, that sucks
