#Baldur's Gate 3
1 messages · Page 5 of 1
Because I gave him mage armour, and when I took his armoured robes off so he can use the armour of shadows invocation, he is now walking around in his tighty whiteys
because for the longest time you could not interact with NPC companions if you were a 4-stack
Armoured robes?
Yeah I know that lol
As in light armor or actual clothing robes
Light armour
Oh ok
and our Paladin looted literally all of Lae'zels stuff in the opening part of act 1 to wear, including her underwear
He starts off with like, padded armour
But it takes off all his clothes but his underwear
so we couldn't give her any clothes
oh no
I turned Wyll into a bladelock because it feels like what he's meant to be
So he needs that extra AC
she was butt naked until like, 70% into Act 3
so whenever she showed up for a scene it was awkward as hell
I turned Wyll into a paladin first time I used him as I was the warlock lol
ha. faor
especially cause that same paladin who stole her underwear and wore it was romancing her
Uh so I really don't know much about this game, are there any bards or did I luck into a class that doesn't exist as an NPC?
No bards
Then I am a special little boy
There's two seperate Druid companions though
Epilogue spoiler for Gale and Shadowheart. I guess ||becoming a Selunite|| hasn’t diminished her snark at all lmao
If one of them is that elf woman who's in charge of the grove I'm pushing her into the compost machine
I read her mind. I don't suggest doing that.
you mean Kahga?
What's she thinking?
Kahga a massive bitch
Yeah Kahga
When she has the little girl who tried to steal the idol she's basically thinking about how she's in charge now and she needs to flex her authority.
Thankfully if you read her mind she is depressingly easy to convince to let the girl go by basically appeasing that she's shown her authority. Like not only is she a bitch she's a simple bitch.
A day since the head druid disappeared
And she’s already started casting the forbidden rites
Not even that, considering this was happening while he was still just out and you arrive to find them trying to close the grove while the other dude is just out on a mission. Like it's been a few hours since he was reported as missing.
honestly in the playthrough i did she was extremely lucky that our Paladin did the talking cause my character would have just fought her
I was a durge so I RPed as if I was trying to resist my own urge by trying to calm the situation down a little
My god that's a point I hadn't even considered
my character has a very clear mindset of
I like you -> chill
i don't like you -> fucking die
I also found a druid being shanked by goblins in an underground passage but managed to save him. I thought he'd be more useful but he's just sitting around like "uh thanks I guess"
She really is just trying to kick him out of the grove so she can take over isn't she
blatantly
Cause I mean it causes walls of thorns to rise up around the grove that exclude everyone but the people who are involved in casting the spell
And he isn't here
honestly as much as she is a massive problem I'm pointing fingers at all the other druids here too because literally what the fuck are you doing?
I've only met two druids who seem alright so far and one of them was the medic lady who pretty much tried to kill me and gave me a vial of suicide wyvern poison. Lae'zel did at least like that I promised to kill myself.
Oh she did not kill the child with me
she let the kid go
Oh yeah, but if she does, the Druids just go "Oh wow she really went through with that someone should have stopped her"
ngl
Knowing what I know about Mind Flayers
Medic Lady's right
Yeah
She's not even that bad about it
No that's why I was honest with her and agreed to take the poison
She's just like, "Okay, it seems that something about this isn't turning you, but if it starts..."
Lae'zel likes it, Asterion does NOT like you promising such a thing
The other druid who seems okay is the one who is basically trying to stop Kahga when you first meet, and even then he's being a real wuss about it.
Specially if he does nothing at the murder of a girl.
the medic lady at least is sending birds looking for Halsin (which also explains why she's guiltily working on the injured bird when you first meet her)
Also that fucking squirrel bit me
I want to adopt them
Mayrina, I understand that talking is a free action, but could you stop screaming for help for two seconds
Y'know, if there's one thing I wish the game was better at
It was giving you options for dealing with the moonrise situation/the gnomes/duergar that weren't
"Pretend to be a true soul to gain passage"
I'd like if going in guns blazing was just... perhaps a little less impossible-feeling
When I was like "yo fuck these slaving duergar" and went in to murder all of them
only to find that literally every one of them was aggroed in the entire area
But everything seems to WANT you to be like "Yep, look at me, True Soul Tav"
The secret to this is to open with a volley of ranged weapons and or cantrips
That way you get the one "Wait you guys are slavers" at the start before the ghost of John Brown takes hold
pfft
You can actually save the gnome nere yeets if you interupt the cutscenes and start combat and there's a little moment afterwards
Larian did think of everything
When I tried doing that the scene proceeded awkwardly
As if the game didn’t quite understand what had happened
Maybe they fixed it?
I had a bit of that with Mayrina and her brothers. My group knocked them out, and even got the "we knocked them out" dialogue option, but all of Ethel and Mayrina's dialogue was for if we had killed them. (And Mayrina's voice line played twice for some reason?) It not perfect system.
It mustve been patched, me and a friend tried the cutscene interrupt and the npc he kills just vanished, no death animation or anything just blinked outta reality
I really want to enjoy sorc
I really do but man having to rest so often for mega magic is annoying lol
Just let me pew pew plz
Honestly it's handy for me, my first playthrough was too efficient and I missed a lot of side content in rests
Dozey wizards see everything
Though it does make short rests feel underwhelming
Honestly for my urge run it makes sense I think
It’s going to be way shorter anyway
Part of me feels like "you need to long rest way too often to see everything" and "occasionally, but not constantly, long resting is your timer" are sort of at odds. I guess on the whole you probably miss less by spamming the button than assuming one of your quests is timed?
I don't believe a single important quest is timed
Nothing that is on the critical path to the end of the game is timed. But it's still annoying when occasionally they throw a timed quest at you. Particularly since I feel like they need to be more explicitly sign posted, and the difficulty this causes can depend greatly on when in your rest cycle you hit them
I also think the whole "you are going to turn into a mind flayer in n days" at the start undermines having timed missions, and also gives people (at least me anyways) the wrong idea about how often to do long rests
exactly, yeah. It's not a big deal, but the gameplay shift is a little jarring. And, again, not huge but there's some ludonarrative dissonance between people constantly telling you that you've got days at most and companion quests breaking if you don't rest enough.
I found the tiefling lady in the store room and promised to heal her for money and I long rested to get healing back (in the same room) and she panicked and started calling the guards despite me trying to sleep in her room.
Thankfully I saved recently
Is it normal to have to do a short rest after most fights?
It can be! The fights are tuned for more lethality on average, to encourage more long resting id imagine
I do, but that's mostly cause I've got a bard
that extra 1 really goes a long way
A good pace for me on tactician is short rest after every fight, long rest if you're out of short rest instead
So basically 3 large encounters per long rest
that's what my group is doing, but we're still in act 1
Yea act 3 is when you tend to long rest more since they throw huge encounters
If you have party members that can still be effective w/out rests (rogue, fighter, warlock, etc) its easier to push it with less rests
Or if you like, overlevel then go back
Warlock is what I'm playing, and I think it's part of the reason I rest so much
as it's really good for rest economy
Eldritch Blast needs no rests ;)
I wound up not long resting until after I hit the tiefling place first of all. Just running around being a fool.
I really long rest for the companion cutscenes, don't want to miss it
And I'd cleared out that little side dungeon first too, with the speak with dead amulet
Oh speak with dead is great in this game, lots of fun little corpse talks
you can learn a lot of useful info
I do my best but sometimes I feel like a fool
Use speak with dead on guy who I know the name of and there's still a "who are you?" question
Speak with dead to try and learn more about a guy but the only question is "Who Are you (I know)", "Who killed you(I know)" and "Comedy traditionally follows a rule of three (I couldnt come up with a third question)"
No that third one is my bard experience
"how's the weather down there"
I learnt recently warlocks get a 3rd spell slot later on
I use warlock as a multiclass too much
Later on being like, Level 12
11 I think but still basically end of game
It depends if you get the jump on the enemy
Like, I have a gloomstalker
So often if the fight isn’t too bad I can’t clean things out quick
well, In Act 3 in my honour mode run at long last
I feel like not blowing myself up this time has really boosted the success of the run tbh
Does Honour mode put more restrictions on long rests?
not from tactician no
it still costs 80 to rest
even so, I've never come close to running out of camp supplies
the main difficulty spikes come from the legendary action system
which has been really annoying in some fights like with Nere and Auntie
or basically unnoticeable in others like Act 2 spoilers ||Ketheric Thorm and the other Thorms||
although that might've been because I got out of one of those fights
or because once you get to Act 2 if you know what you're doing, you're basically unstoppable
oh and no save scumming
really noticed that one
yeah mostly i found myself making sure i looted more food / bought more food
i can confirm that you cannot recruit Minthara if you knock her out at the gates of the druid grove :( or something else happened related to that
Act 3 spoilers ||AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH FUCKING WHAT! THAT HOUSE OF GRIEF FIGHT IS RIGGED||
||WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM||
||I lived by the skin of the skin of the skin of my teeth, thanks only to Illithid fly speed, that was not okay||
||Just, whole party got wrecked||
||They hit for like 6 billion damage but also do bone chill and blind you, you cannot heal and you cannot make ranged attacks||
||the blind is the hardest part of that imo, since it kills so many options on safe positioning. grats on surviving it!!! im not looking forward to it||
||You thought I survived? I fucking ran||
that counts in my books!
||Granted I killed the mother superior first round||
||Because she is a humaniod, a critical weakness when facing someone who did some side quests in act 2||
doesn't in mine
||she who fights and runs away lives to rune powder those idiots another day||
we're going back into the mouth of hell, and ripping them to shreds
mostly because this time I can get a suprise round
||That is how honour run number 1 was brought to an end, I will not die the same way this close to glory||
a lot of my honour mode safety precautions have boiled down to "one person farther away with misty step / invisibility"
The greatest sadness of Warlock is that you cannot misty step more
ideally every bonus action would be misty step
Simply splash a couple levels in thief rogue for a second bonus action so you can disengage dash
that is the entire basis of my bard-rogue build thats almost done with act 2
there are some misty step magic items that I recommend picking up then
bruh
I love when enemies crit through disadvantage
really makes my day
Act 3 spoilers but TLDR, I'm about to make a really bad mistake ||Time to fight Honour Mode Ansur, Wish me luck...||
Oh no
Warlocks devil sight clutch
I took Daylight as my ranger just for it
I remember the act 2 ||moonrise and how all the warlocks would cast that damaging blinding fog every turn in a chokepoint||
Prone being so debilitating is so wild. Sure made Open Hand Monk fun though
Hm
Why did they make prone end turns
Does prone being so bad help contribute to Strength being stronger in BG3?
Or am I wrong in thinking that the majority of prone effects are strength saves
Grease is probably the most common example that'll come up and its Dex
BG3 did buff Strength folk, especially via jumping
The jumping gets absolutely cartoonish so fast and it's great
Honestly just appreciate the bonus action support across the board
Tasha's Hideous Laughter is also an early on way to prone a motherfucker
dex, actually an acrobatics check
I remember looking up what acrobatics did and apparently it's not much but helps you stay upright on ice
Oh that’s cool so if I hex dex it helps
Yee
something that also helps
is nere's jays that you loot from him
which make it so you can't fall prone on grease or ice and gives you immunity to enwebbed, entangled and ensnared
Yeah it’s one of my favourite items
There are similar ones that do that while concentrating
I wonder if I can get them on an evil run without killing Nere
I’ll have to sneaky knock him out right ?
I mean
iirc to be evil that room has to be clear of most enemies anyways
you can just turn on non-lethal and just go and beat them all up
Non lethal only counts for melee right? Ranged is still deadly
yeah you can't pull the punches of a crossbow bolt
Okay cool I thought this was true after clicking non lethal and shooting a dog
I uh... reloaded
... Bruh
Just saw the conversation about prone here and to me it seems pretty weak
maybe it's because I'm coming off of like Pathfinder WOTR
but you don't even get to hit them when they stand up
If someone falls prone as they are walking it ends their turn
Have you out Grease underneath people and watched them basically stun themselves yet
Yeah, it can just shut down melee
Hmm I want to make a mind controller but I can’t pick between sorc and lore bard
The dog is fine now I talked to it properly this time
most enemies you face will be melee damage dealers, and basically none of them have a fly speed or a jump distance that can take them out of the larger AoE ice effects that you get at later levels, there's a particular level 4 ice spell that is the prime example of this, I've had bosses not take a turn two times in a row because they slipped and fell on they ass. And even if it's not big enough that they can't jump out of it, they've lost their bonus action and a ton of movement, they might be forced to dash to close with your frontliners, which has still eaten their turn and also brought them into melee with your own frontliners. Combined with a specific illithid power, if you can keep a source of ice or grease up you can basically stop your enemies from taking turns
with what might amount to a level 1 spell slot you can stun lock anything that can be slowed and proned
errrr, I think the game just ate my spear...
Which sucks cause it was ||Nyrulna, best throwing weapon in the game||
guess I'm respec'ing into Eld knight
Uh oh
yeah it's not fun
especially cause, and say it with me now, I cannot go back and get it via save scumming
(gods above no save scumming it truly a curse, not because it means that I can fail, but that it leaves me up to the whims of the game)
How did it eat it?
no
I've just
taken a dip into eld knight and lived with it
I'm just kinda malding because I liked the look of it
it actually hurts my team comp because of the splash damage
but good damage is too hard to pass up
A little scene that managed to give Gortash personality and actually made me like him.
L m a o
Back to another Stream, more Baldur's Gate, more fool actions of a halfling bard
I'm new to the game so no spoilers pls
https://www.twitch.tv/hoggmoneymaker
Shadowheart had a work place accident
Act 3 spoilers ||About to enter the Durge Duel with Orin, wish me luck folks||
||Did it! I keep forgetting that in her slayer form, Orin is a push over. But regardless, Samantha Smitesalot greets the bloodless dawn, child of none||
||I really wish the slayer form didn't suck so much||
||Literally, to get it you either have to be evil, or kill a better version of what his gift gives you||
||Like, I just solo'd it and it didn't have to give up it's first action and it went first, why would I sell my soul, my sanity and the lives of all of the beings in the realms for... A chance to be worse at killing than I already am||
||At least becoming a mind flayer actually gives you insane godlike abilities that trump everything else||
You also miss out on soooo much good gear lol
just... Just ||Let Alfira die||
||The cape is all I ever actually want||
||Everything else, either costs the lives of the person I'm trying to romance, the life of a party member or you have to be a homophobe and murder someone's GF because your dad thought it would be "kinda funny"||
It’s good for a single run for sure
it's so fucking cool
I’m actually having such a hard time picking a class and sticking to it for my urge run
multiclass
or switch, you don't have to play the same thing for the whole run
I didn't
I just finished Paladin so everything feels less powerful lol
Be bard for maximum bitchy dialogue
Bard is good
do swords
Or I guess I could go for machine gun swords of doom
I think you can get up to ten
Or dual crossbows, 9 attacks but with sharpshooters +10 damage bonus
you can go even further beyond
Yeah that was the idea
14 attacks
Got an outline ?
sure
I always feel weird with the spells since they do like, so little for this build lol
Bard 6, Fighter 2, War cleric 1, Rogue 3
War cleric ?
Haste and exlier of Bloodlust
Pour quoi?
cleric, war domain
I'm sorry you're only used for Bonus Action cheating, Thief Rogue v-v
And sneak attack
three times a day you may attack as a bonus action
but it's bugged
and if you use slashing strike with it, it gives you an extra attack
Maybe I’ll skip lol
I just wish the ranged attacks were more impressive. I wanted to go full caster but nothing sparks joy
I wish Druid land was better I love Druid spells
Or if nercromany was a bit more interesting
but yeah:
Slashing Strike: 2
Slashing Strike second attack: 2
Bonus Action Slashing Strike: 2
Bonus Extra attack: 1
Bonus Action Slashing Strike: 2
Bonus Extra Extra attack: 1
Hasted Action Attacks: 2
Bloodlust Action Attacks: 2
Action Surge Attacks: 2
16 attacks
That’s
I was wrong
A lot
you can even do this with a heavy crossbow
It's so fucked up that Warlock spells can't stack with other spell caster levels
it's to prevent CHA casters getting all of them back on a short rest for free
Yeah
at no cost to their casting progression
What can and cannot be completely broken is 100% arbitrary
yes
16 attacks; fine, spell slots on a rest? crime
and god forbid you wanna use Sorcery points with any sort of reliability
you're gonna be the doziest MF alive
But I'm an innocent, I just want to attack more and use heavy armour
Not a horrifying Spell Slot searcher
you can use freecast to print infinite spell slots
and infinite sorcerery points, from act 1
isn't that like a daily illithid power
which all also just shatter the game over their knee
it's bugged
it uses the ability but you can continue to consume for free
sounds unfun
I honestly don't mind it
it just lets your casters be more castery
which, is fine
you've still only got so many actions
ohh i thought action/bonus was part of the cost that got free'd
but still i dunno i don't have a good swing on this, minmax all ye want and such
yeah like, if you really want to obliterate eerything from orbit
Plus I don’t think anything beats tavern brawling monk if we don’t count bugged stuff
you are to be able to deal 8000 damage in one turn
Without bugs ?
yep
You mean the owlbear jump ?
as intended folks
100% crits and vulnerability to all damage mixed with all the damage stacking you can do and a bunch of the highest level Scorching Rays
4 level 5 rays 1 Level 6 in one turn
Major Act 3 Spoilers ||Welp, about that time... Netherbrain on Honour Mode... Time to see if I'll be walking out of this run with a gilded D20... Or if I've wasted 40 hours||
||And I've got just enough explosives to blow a hole through pretty much any problem||
||Group fight down, was suprisingly easy for the first time I've agro'd the whole map||
The failed performance check here is too hilarious
It has to be seen to be believed
Me when I was 5 and didnt want to go to school
Hilariously they buy the act even on a failed check
But their rationale for turning hostile is that she must be infected with the plague and must be quarantined
TIL you can save ||Alfira|| in a Durge run
You get another character in her place tho
||Victory For The Righteous! One smashed brain and nobody even died in the attempt... Except Nightsong, but she got better. One of the cleanest fights of my life, thanks to dimension door, we were able to get in quick and send out our summons to keep the dragon and co busy (two Devas and a Cambion) while Shadowheart, Astarion and the Dame made short work of the left flank while Samantha Smitesalot and the emperor stormed up the right, by R2 we were concentrating on the the spell and all the arcanists were dead while Wyll and the summons tied up the rest of the illithids and the dragon in combat, come R3 we got in and did 432 damage in one round, and at the top of R4 Astarion finished the job with a smokepowder bomb arrow, ending the Absolute and my Honour Run with a bang||
Gods above, what a fucking marvelous fight!
shame I couldn't get an executioner charge for the life of me
Okay I decided to go lore bard
I know swords of nuts but I want more magic, what should I take for secrets ?
Things which are usually class locked are generally very good
Because they're class features disguised as spells, so they're straight up better usually
That’s what I’m feeling
I’m doing an urge run but going support control is nice so warden of vitality
And maybe something for some damage, I’m between hunger of Hadar or call lighting
Im a big fan of magic missile
Stupid gale eating my stupid amulet of lights that was really cute
Yummy
And wouldn't eat another thing I wanted to give him
Was it like not good enough magic for him? I had no purpose for it but it wasn't a choice.
Yeah only certain magic items have the "gale can absorb this" tag
But it was the cool stuff
And I don't even use the nerd
I just got set on fire really hard in that burning building
Yeah that buildings full of fire
Something funny happens if you throw a water balloon :3
I did not have a water balloon
What happens?
This is the one in act 1 yes?
Surrounded by those fist people
It creates an electrified steam cloud, I do not know why.
Wish I could have taken the ox with me
It killed a goblin, I could do with an ox like that
That ox has his own campaign
Fair
Also I love that I crossed a broken bridge by jumping, went right, came across a horrific bloody scene of carnage, had a couple of downs and a rough fight but came through, stumbled a bit the opposite direction, and wound up up coming across a place on fire with completely different corpses littered all over
like damn
Literally a road apart
I also explored that ruined village that has goblins everywhere
I can't tell if it was ruined before the goblins got there or they did the ruining
Also there was a deep gnome attached to a windmill
The village is worth returning to a few times to make sure you got everything nearby, you can think of it like act 1's hub spoke of the wheel
Oh I definitely need to do a few different things
I broke the +1 dagger ._.
I didn't think failing sleight of hand would snap it
I found the lab under the healer's, but I need to level a bit before I can deal with the fuckers under the well
Always a solid idea
I also found a hole in a house covered in webs that I burnt but I didn't go down there. I suspect it another way to get into the spider lair
I'm just fucking around at this point
I've tried to go find the druid and it's like "wow there is so much shit between here and the goblin area how did that moron of a mercenary get all the way back to the only place it shouldn't have gone and miss everything else along the way"
Talking about the dude who lured the goblins back to the druids
Ah, that guy
Aradin
I love Aradin
I mean, I hate him, moreso than any other character in the game, I think
He's just so stupid and devoid of charm I can't help but go "Damn."
Why couldn't he have just exploded and died thanks to an owlbear
At this point I have met goblins I like more than Aradin
at least they didn't beg for help then be a pissy baby about it
There's a really fun interaction in Act 3, where you can [Act 3 Spoilers, although I have tried to spoil very little] ||Tell him about something that makes him grab some friends and track you down to Camp and attack you. While he's still Level 3. And you're Level 12.||
Unfortunately I am not going to look at that
Fair
Also I spoke with his lady companion and they basically admit that friend of theirs ran in to attack goblins and they all just fucking ran and abanadoned him.
I hope that person is still alive so he can go back and slap them all stupid.
But I doubt it.
Only one way to find out :3
I'm heading that direction
Question
there was just a few bumps along the road
So, I'm being an evil durge drow, and
like screaming hyenas exploding into gnolls
I want to kill the grove
I'm wondering, should I tell the goblins where it is, or should I just...
Do it myself?
Actually that second one sounds really fun I'm gonna do that
It will be a bit harder to do it yourself
But also kinda worth it
it feels weird as I keep going on because I've gone to try and get the druid back but it feels like they're waaaaay away and I keep running into other things along the road
I hope there's no hidden time limits because my head is getting cooked and I've long rested twice. I think I stretched it out pretty far but it's also like... damn
Nope. There are no hidden time limits.
At least not where you are
There is... one or two, in the game
I try to be careful and do things at a decent pace
like I've only long rested twice so far in my entire play through and even that was because I took some major knocks in the gnoll fight
Long rest more. A lot of companion and story stuff is gated behind long rest events
I just had asterion try to bite me and gale eat the locket I got for saving the tiefling girl
I don't wanna feed him cool shit
that counts for both of them
I also have not met Karlach yet
I just hit level 4 as well, which is weird to think of it as a third of a way through my levels, but I suppose levels come faster in the early game but the awesome gear comes in the later game
(though I did get some cool things as well)
No idea if the feats I picked are useful but I'm not used to playing a lore bard so I just improved my basic stats while others got proper feats
But I am more of the skill monkey. Even if Asterion can pick locks better than I can. The hack.
There's not many feats worth it for spellcasters imo
Besides warcaster
And resilient
I picked up warcaster on Wyll cause he's my bladelock
Asterion got Mobile and Lae'zel got great weapon mastery so she can bonk someone to death then do it again
Its implied they didn't even get that far, they got to the bridge leading to the village (you can find several adventurer bodies there)
Would you like to?
Oh I thought that was some other poor bastards along the way. I went in and yelled at the goblins to stop being a bastard and let me look around, robbed the place a little, made the ogres leave and the ones around the windmill leave, then just stabbed the rest in the face.
I decided to pay them off with 500 gold, after failing a check
ohhh that'd explain it
Well I have them to call in for a fight when I want it
And I know Karlach is around there somewhere, I'm just worried Wyll is going to try and kill her when they meet
Itll be fun
I'm a little uncertain who I'd swap them out for at the party though.
I love rotating folks in esp now that i know their quests
I'm running Bard, Asterion, Lae'zel and bladelock Wyll so I've got some good ranged and close fighters
Do you have grandpa at camp
I love him
Oh question:
He brought up "hirelings" are they basically other created characters or something else?
I couldn't figure out what it meant and he wanted 100 gold to do it
Theyre extra party members w/ no personality yeah
Cuz you can, uh, end up in situations with no friends
They have a personality, it's just wither's personality
Oh no
Horrible thought
Want to play a run with Gale as my protag
But that means I can't play as a cute girl
But... better spell slot progression
Trans their gender as the gods intended
Gale gets better spell slot progression?
wizards get better spell slot progression than sorcerers pretty much always because skip williams all the way back in 3.0 (3.5? one of them) was a coward who was so afraid of spontaneous casting he made sorcerers have one class feature ever
and punished their slots
idk how they stack up to other casters
Every time I talk to gale I wind up wanting to throw bricks at him
I'm a bard and he seems smugger than I am
he's got that wizard ego
I thought all full casters got the same spell slot progression except for warlock
Gale's a little guy
I often want to Brick Astarion because he's often non-comically evil
Nah wizards get a bit better. Clerics are pretty strong too.
I'll never know about clerics because Shadowheart had a work place accident
Oh I'm happy to brick both of them. Astarion just doesn't like me because I'm more charismatic than he is.
Astarion is useful because he can undo traps and feeds me Inspiration every time I use trickery and skullduggery to defeat a situation
Wyll has the brain of a chicken nugget but at least he tries his best and was teaching kids to defend themselves when I met him.
I can see it
Astarion hates when you do heroic things which does get complicated in an RPG
I love the goober but c'mon man, I gotta save the childrens
Wizards have identical progression to other casters, but can recover spell slots with Arcane Recovery
He gets better later on if you continue being nice
Eventually I will be not-racist one too many times and he'll be like "I have to leave"
At least lae'zel likes it when it fully commit to something. She's very forthright but when I'm honest and commit to taking the slug out my head she likes it.
Lae'zel loves me ever since the workplace accident happened
Or when you want to learn shit. Because I love learning lore and I'm like "no that does sound cool" she likes me
I have not had a workplace accident yet
I have heard that people will generally get better as you go along, because, well, turns out that you just about met everyone on the worst day in their life
Specially Lae'zel
For my halfling bard I would say this isn't their worst day considering they look like someone him through a threshing machine
Karlachs mostly having a good time though
True I haven't met her yet though
I'm considering swapping Astarion out for her but then I'll be the most naked background bard at the front line party
Could always respec
Nah I don't want to respec on my first run
I made Wyll a paladin and Astarion a druid for funsies once
I mean I could keep Wyll back and just eldritch blast some folk in the face
I suppose bladelocks make good mid range/bounce back and forth fighters
Bladelocks are like "you thought I was useless in close quarters combat?"
Unless you forget to bind your pact weapon after a long rest
"aha! I am slightly better in close combat than normal!"
Bladelocks are for having better attack rolls than martials and theortically more attacks
I got to love heavy weapons
2H paladin, 2H barbarian, 2H bladelock
I've played it all
And BG3 gives you so many good greatswords
I've forgotten to bind before yeaaaah
Also I keep giving people shields more because AC useful
Is there any reason to not use a shielf when ever possible?
If proficient then no
Later on shields get shield bash reaction which is great cause it prones and ends turns
So your caster can stop a multi attack first hit
It's pretty bonkers defensively
I still find the extra damage and great weapon master to be more worth it with the many magical great swords available early on
I haven't found any yet but I gave Lae'zel the fancy footwork AC bonus battlemaster thing so it's not entirely necessary for her to have a shield
plus cutting words on my lore bard
Okay I’m doing spore Druid
I know it’s not super good but damn I love my summons lol
So many followers
I kinda want to try a throwing build in the future
just
yeet shit directly at the enemy
I haven't seen but.... if you throw rotten items like tomatoes and eggs at people will it poison them?
Yeah spore sorry
Mobile discord famously super great
I don’t think throwing rotten food does anything special
Iirc I tried it
BUT if you yeet someone into someone they fall prone
And both take damage
I was chatting with someone in my chat and they play BG3 with their husband and mentioned they should get the ring of yeeting because they keep throwing their husband's gnome into the enemy
Hahah
I think you take damage for the yeet as well
If you bonk someone
Two friends of mine played together as halfling barbarians and would yeet one another back and forth at the enemy
Wonderful
I was tempted to make a halfling Barbarian
I do also love that Halfling Barbarians work pretty damn well
dexterity and constitution bonus? Yes please, and also fuck your poison.
I'm a lightfoot halfling so better at sneaking and charismaing
The bravest warriors
Oh there aren't racial stat modifiers in bg3
You can freely choose your +2 and +1 stat bonus
Same
astarion has the smoothest brain among the party though
Never trust someone who would willingly become a despotic noble
Astarion creeps me out
Like putting aside all the ick implications of racial stats, it would just suck for origins to, and makes the game more replayable cos makes changing class viable
they do
Sorcerers just memorise fewer spells
The advantage of sorcerer is that you can cast two to three times a turn
I do find it strange how they suggest that stoutheart halflings are perhaps part dwarf and it's a bit like... what is a halfling? Are they their own race? Or are they just a weird mutt of the world?
Gale origin spoilers || you can get extra spell slots as Gale in act 2 its very neat ||
me: Oh I got an achievement, probably because that boss is really hard!
Steam: You're an idiot, heres a trophy for doing it the stupid way
I got that for [Act Three spoilers] ||Orin||, because honestly it feels like doing that fight the way that gives you an achievement is genuinely easier than doing it the other way around. At least on Balanced.
Killing Grym w/out the hammer is nuts to me
I dunno, my thought when first seeing him was "I can take him." I was playing a Monk though
Moreso the thing that keeps happening where people see a puzzle boss arena and dont do the puzzle haha
Im too puzzle brained for it
I examine like, every enemy and read all of their things
So I knew he could only be damaged by bludgeoning damage while in lava
It took a few tries and I was like level 6 for it, I thought kiting him was the answer but then I just sorrounded him and hit him
if you just hit him over and over again with a stick he dies
Lae'zel had natures snare so advantage for hitting was pretty easy to get
I am surrounded by barbarians
One handed hammers have a throwable tag for some reason
see the secret is it didnt feel like a puzzle arena at all
beyond "he's weak to being dunked in lava, leave the caster on the wheel!"
I mean I beat the arena using puzzle method first
But then I thought
“Wait I can do this without a puzzle by using hammers”
I had a monk and Karlach with a Warhammer, kind of didn't realize the Puzzle Route was an option my first time
halflings have some of the weirdest origins depending on the edition
Because they can't just call them hobbits (they're just hobbits)
so I think in the first editions they're called that because theyre half the size of a man
But in later ones they're half man half never elaborated on
Some sort of human relatives
I got that one too, I didn't even realize you could use the forge hammer
I don't get that, sorry 😭 everything about grym screams puzzle
All the highlights in the arena, all the notes, etc
I do love the idea that there's some great horrible eldritch reason why halflings are there, even if they're a weird countermeasure to it or something. Just no one bothered to find that out.
Okay, I need like, a basic action to take on my lore bard. I’m most support and control stuff but when my concentration is up I’m not sure what I can use that isn’t just cutting words
Eldritch blasts maybe
I've been having fun chucking stuff. Grease bottles are like a discount grease spell at low levels
Right now I just have a bow to twang at people, specially the bow that has a chance of giving me a spell back
Oh that’s cool
Which is that
Oh new question anyone know what are the secondary effects for glyph of warding ?
Shortbow you can buy in the druid area from the druids
But I think you need a critical to get the spell slot back so its not reliable. Better for an arcane trickster
But any advantage is a good one
No idea about glyph or warding though
I gave a look and I realized that Spellthief is a longbow, which I'm not sure as a lore bard I can use. If yours is an elf you may be proficient with it but I may have been using the Spellthief longbow and utterly messing up because I'm not proficient with it and never noticed. But yes. Longbow called Spellthief is the one I was mentioning.
bards get shortbows and light crossbows (simple weapons) and hand crossbows (inexplicable), but not longbows.
Yeah
Elves get longbows
So I think I've been awkwardly pinging into fights with a longbow without realizing
With no proficiency
a pro tip with bows in bg3: if they give bonuses/resistances/etc, those work when they arent your main hand weapon
Neat
it makes bows with stuff like "grant fire resistance" a lot better, esp for your melees
I need to find my halfling bard a nice ranged weapon they can actually use
a shame slings aren't in the game
Hand crossbow
I don't know what it is, but seeing a small person, whip out a small crossbow and just dome a random person across the map will never not be comical to me
it's why my first character was a halfling fighter who just pulled up on her ops with a crossbow and a dream
Honestly I'm tempted to get a proper hand crossbow and put the boots of sparks on them so I could do mobile shots and dash to get lightning charges then hit with a handcrossbow and some real nasty damage
Question: Is it possible to dismiss the character of someone who joined a previous multiplayer session?
Yeah. Talk to them as your main character, in camp, and you can literally shove them in a wardrobe
And you can drag and drop them out if you want them back
I can't talk to them?
Maybe it's because...
Oookay now I can
Although I discovered a new, horrible problem
Apparently my friends game is violently flashing bright red when he was trying to listen in on my durge scene?
Like, I have a screenshot and it is not right
"yeah, this my OC. They're named 0xFF0000 and they're a square."
Damn
We just [HEAVY Act Three Spoilers] ||Killed Ansur without him getting a turn, only for the cutscene with Empy Boy to be forcefully ended because a Planar Binding wore off making one of the myrmidons attack us||
Monks are fucking cracked
I wonder if it might be worth it as a bard to get a feat that lets you use martial weapons. Because long bows good and being able to regularly hit isn't bad... But also should just make the spells better and zap people in the face.
True, though Spellthief is a great bow for a spellcaster. I suppose it drops off though since it only gets first level spell slots back.
Hopefully I will find a decent shortbow or hand crossbow or something for when I want to ping folk
I know at level... 6 I think? not sure, but lore bards also get magical secret spell, and you can get the cleric spell Spiritual weapon, which is level 2 and not concentration while being an incredibly strong weapon you can use your spell attack to swing with
lore bards get magical secrets at 6 and everyone else gets it at ten i believe
in this house we a college of swords battlemaster fighter multiclass
I don’t know lore bard is pretty cracked lol
If it helps, there are some items you can get that give you longbow/longsword proficiency respectively, later into Act 1 / early Act 2
Act 3 Honour Mode Spoilers ||Damn... Wish my fight was that easy, instead I nuked him, he turned on godmode hit my whole party for 18d10 lightning damage and when we die kill him turn 2, he revealed his second health bar and hit us for another 18d10 lightning damage, thank fuck for Half Orc's being busted at not dying||
||Literally the ring of regen from SS saved my whole honour run, cause we basically didn't get a turn to act between him charging and him using his bullshit special attack and so he instantly wiped the whole party, my Durge got back up because she was a half orc then healed from the ring and took lightning damage from the electrictuted water she was standing on... Ended that fight on basically 1hp||
Hooray!
We successfully saved the [Act Three Spoilers] ||Ffffffucking Gondians||
Also I found something kinda weird
So, [Heavy Act Three Wyll spoilers] ||Wyll refused the deal from the sisters, and rescued Ravengard anyways, but He still says Wyll sold his soul to free him||
Lmao
I didn’t know that Drow tav can, ||after poisoning the goblins in act 1, admit it to their face when they accuse you and tell them they should be previleged that Tav didn’t gut them instead. It actually works in making them stand down||
Drows are just built different
... You can do that to them? ||The poison, I mean.||
Yeah
At their party ||you can pour poison into their beer keg||
And then cal everyone in for a toast
Also how old is baldur’s gate?
How did Balduran ||live this long while presumably being human until recently||
||Baldurian has been a mind flayer for ages, what leads you to believe the contrary?||
Oh I see
I thought he ||got turned fairly recently while investigating the Absolutr||
Really fun team build, a bunch of summons, staff of blessing that doubles the bless bonus and the ring that adds bless for two rounds when you heal. Finally the gloves that give resistance to physical damage on heal
All works in act 1
Super fun
Feeling #blessed
Nice lol
Need to check if warden of vitality and aid work on undead and if they trigger these items
If yes, hot damn
So I’m playing on ps5 and a new patch it out today. Electrified water now seems to be different. You should see what happens now lol
Hm
Starting a new playthrough because...
Gonna be a Paladin
I'm stuck between Human, or Half-Elf for Green Flame Blade
(I have mods)
Prolly gonna be a polearm fighter
Nah let's go Human
Humans are pretty fun
Oh also this playthrough's on Tactician
which feels odd to say, as a human myself
oh, good luck
Do I go Folk Hero or Urchin?
my one tip would be to collect all the food you can
I was already doing that lol
doubling the long rest supply req is big
Epilogue spoilers || https://youtu.be/9brGcNj5yN8?si=oqr0iHr5l02JjoRO wow Karlach as a mindflayer sounds so… uncharacteristically calm six months later||
||I felt bad mindflaying Karlach, it definitely doesn't feel right with Emperor encouraging it afterwards||
||this feels so much like a different character. it's sad, to me||
Also I've met Karlach now and that went over surprisingly smoothly considering I had Wyll in my party
But psychic space worms in the brain will do that to you
Time for what?
Karlach is a very good person
she is so good in fact, that she will not stand for you being a bad person
Arguably an evil run would just be like "Hey, Wyll, there's that devil you were gonna kill, let's get her"
I really should swap asterian out for karlach
yeah I didn't do that, I let her join my camp
Since I try to be a good person
now she can witness as we burn the grove to the ground
Asterian is the only person who can get rid of traps effictively it's so fucked up
do you not have lesser restoration/lay on hands?
Not yet
I see
but yeah, Astarion is amazing as a ranged martial because of how Happy and Archery shatter bounded accuracy
Barbarian is good
Lae'zel?
I'm trying to flirt with her I will only accept compliments
... You have more patience and mental fortitude than I
Lae'zel is the brainwashed victim of a fascist society
I can fix her
It's not even fixing her, its deprogramming her basically
It's honestly The Right Thing To Do
I am a little halfling lad and I will fix her.
it is the right thing to do
however, none of my characters are therapists
and all of them have better/more pressing things to do (like save BG and remove brain worms)
I have no idea how well I'm going to pull this off but I will do my best
I believe in you
bards rule
Little halfling bard trying to fix the facism.
She doesn't mind buying the artist but not a fan of giving him 200 gold to get on with
you don't have to give him money
it's walking, it won't kill you, it probably won't kill him
No i know I'm just doing the right thing
Just take a walk through a place where a bunch of people get kidnapped and killed?
and the extra gold will help that how?
Pay them off, pay for guards, throw the money behind you as you run away
put it in a sock and beat your foes
But yeah just trying to help out a moron. I got him for the reduced price anyway.
you walk through several dead caravans, complete with dead guards and dead caravaners to get to him
I think that if he gets attacked, he's kinda buggered anyway
I just told the people who bought him I'd fucking kill them
And then they gave him to me, I sent on his way
then I killed them for being slavers
It was tempting but I wanted to see what interacting with them will do
Fuck around and try new things
I greatly enjoy solving a problem with trickery, then just killing my enemies anyway
I am a simple girl
I hit the problem really fucking hard
and if that didn't work, I go back and talk to the problem
then I hit it really fucking hard
Hit thing with big stick is highly effective when trickery fails or succeeds
I'm wondering how stuff will progress. I now have a mystery chest being delivered to a wizard or something because I've helped the delivery go through rather than opening it myself. Which may be stupid.
I've seen multiple things of "don't open this chest" and it is very tempting to do so but I have not and am getting it delivered properly
I opened it
No spoilers pls
Who knows what consiquences this will have for my life
I'm looking forward to my own terrible consequences
I'm looking forward to hearing about it
I love doing that in games honestly. Giving people a choice on whether to do something that will change something small but interesting one way or another.
Still tempted to kill those folk for being slavers but also they might have cool shit to trade
I watched Jesse Cox play through BG3 and it was delightful, but he did the "I'm going to let nere just die" thing because he took too many long rests by mistake
and he wound up being unable to free the gnomes
you know
I've yet to save those Gnomes
the fight was just too much of a bother, even if it was very doable
I've saved them every time
except in Honour Mode, HM Nere can fuck off back into the lava I shoved him in
I wanted to, however, I don't think I can win against Nere, the Absolute cult AND the slavers all at once
especially because they just throw me into lava
That fight is extremely hard unless ||you broker a deal with the Duergar Elder in the very back left of the room - then most of the Duergar you fight becomes allies for the battle instead, and you can just kill them after if you want||
Gnomes? Uhhh... guessing that's spoilers for later in the game?
It's in ||the underdark|| in act ||1 ||
It's in act 1 yeah
Oh okay! Will have to have laezel salami people to death later no doubt
I did free the sverfneblin from the windmill though
TIL that Karlach has dialogue for if you ||approach her AFTER destroying the grove.||
Generally you can just swap characters depending on if it’s their quest you’re on
not just doing that but also ||Fighting the druids||
I have encountered a small problem with my evil run
I... I really like a lot of these characters
and I don't enjoy ||slaughtering innocent civilians in a fight where everyone is unarmed and permanently frightened ||
just let me be cartoonishly evil damn it
Thats the hardest evil choice to make
You can ||get them to fight each other||
Personally I appreciate it when a game treats evil as actually evil
Like when you sign up to help Minthara slaughter the grove, yeah, that involves the grove getting slaughtered
Evil isn't wearing a black-and-red cape and making smug declarations of villainy
ok but they could also have given that option too
That's what Astarion is for
Meanwhile my orc berserker assassin is out here saving kittens and puppies
If I ever make this guy a proper DND character I'm going to continue trying to Persuasion my way into getting people to stand down like I do in bg3 but imply it's because of the whole "if we roll initiative I cannot promise what will happen to you" vibe
I mean I agree that the game needs more and better capes
But I don't think it's reasonable to expect a CRPG to double up every "I will send this kitten to college for love and justice" dialogue choice with an equivalent "I will send this kitten to college for evil and villainy (do not interrogate this proposition)" statement
Except maybe Tyranny but that was a central thing in Tyranny
Ah, we were talking about [Act 1 Underdark spoilers] ||saving the gnomes?||
I found the trick to that being ||starting at the bottom, kill all the duegar before freeing Nere||
After doing all the origina ive found the surefire way is to || make a deal with the duergar to kill nere, free nere, side / duergar, then convince the duergar to leave the gnomes behind.|| It Just Works and gives you all the noteworthy items
After doing that you can ||antagonize the remaining duergar by picking up some items marked as theirs, if you want some extra XP||
||Killing the Druegar is pretty easy, you can kill them in small groups||
did we play the same game where the good route is killing goblin children?
lmao
a deed that literally no character comments on
you can and should romance mind flayers is funny considering how explicit the game is they do not have souls and ||the only romance option for them is a man manipulating you with sex||
||and the good ending involves killing literally every mind flayer||
I will say I haven't played that far yet
I do find it a bit odd how little I can actually converse with goblins when I meet them
You should kill goblins because they are goblins, not because they are evil—me, a durge
I'm fairly sure they're all about killing anything for any reason
Yeah but goblins are very numerous in number and easy to kill
They thus please Bhall greatly
I wish I could help the Goblins
Like fix the problems which lead to them becoming raiders and falling for the absoulete, instead of having to kill them all
Also really weird you have to kill kids to free the big druid
However, Halsin absolutely will kill them, which even you don't have the ability to comment on
Oh, are there Goblin children in the encampment? I missed that 😅
I did notice you are likely to kill a bunch of kids in the creche
Divinity Original Sin 2 was also pretty "biological" determinism on the evilness
Yea demons are always evil in dos2
Elves and dwarves and lizards are planet of the hats
The elves were leaning into the default evilness. Especially with the trees spirit, leader things
Which is a shame because they had a really cool enemy to use with the gnolls being... well, rather twisted, more so than goblins. Goblins you have to suggest is an evil race, Gnolls are at least fucked up because of the demonic influence
If I had a nickel for every time in a setting elves were the dominant race that lorded over everyone then their empire fell and now they're second class citizens I'd have 3 nickels
Witcher, divinity
Damn I forgot the 3rd one
Dragon age that was it
Warhammer
4 nickels
It kinda makes sense as a symbol that all empires fall so I don’t hate it
Oh the second part of that is humanity is now the empire and it's just right cause they were oppressed and now it's their turn to be the oppressor
Well, I would not call Eldar second class citizens in 40k
Oh, I know less about fantasy but I'm also under the same impression
Aelves in fantasy arent doing that bad, and are pretty far away from Humans
I think at some point they used to be bigger but now they just live on Doughnut Britain
I think in the Witcher it’s more like humanity sucked really hard and destroyed the peaceful empire
But yeah
Tbf you can get out the creche mostly kill free if you take the side exit
Do you even have to visit the creche?
You don't
I dunno if that was innate evil. I just think the trees were tyrants. But that doesn't mean they all had to be. What's real whacky with divinity is that gnomes control the universe
twimps
Sad we had to kill imp god in dos2
I think, I don't remember I just assumed they were all there
No I believe all the gods turn on you
I just don't remember if the orc or imp god was there during that fight or not
hey at least in Warhammer it's explicit that any empire is evil except for the enlightened fish people mecha
*holds hand up to earpiece* I am just receiving word now that the enlightened fish people mecha are also evil

okay this may be
the single funniest piece of Baldur's Gate content I have ever watched
it is a little bit humorous
That (tilescard? preview? the still on the video) repulses me
Yeah I can see the appeal after clicking it
Charlie is an actual long-term like 6+ years player in just roll with it and a few other actual DND podcasts so I can confirm he is actually funny and up to the challenge
The animations he has in the videos are also fantastic
Pure memes all the way through but well done
this took me ouuut they gave astarion an M4 gun, black aviator sunglasses and a cig... enough. 😭
lmfao
I gave him a frumpy hat
I didn't like the bard starting armor so I made him swap with me
Githyanki unique dialogues are pretty hilarious
When Astarion asks you to describe him you start going off a list of his physical characteristics
“Elven. Vampire spawn. White hair. Approximately five foot eleven…”
When he asks you for a compliment directly you can say “despite neither being brave nor intelligent you are one of the most effective killers I know.”
I always wanna try a Gith character but it would make me feel sort of character breaking to do sidequests or somethin
Nah it fits in well
Yeah many sidequests are, easily justified by saying "I know time is of the essence but every edge or potential cure is useful and worth investigation."
Man, a Drow Warlock has so many unique actions and dialogues
Lolth-Sworn Drow Warlock with the eldritch god patron
basing her off of my LARP character

What’s your favourite sneaky build ?
Duergar Ranger
Oh that’s a cool idea
Do you multiclass?
I tried ranger to higher level and it wasn’t too fun
Okay, I’ll toy around with it. I’m trying to avoid the cheese with swords bard and rogue
But it’s a strong siren call
Fun fact: Duergar invis is permanent until disrupted
Awesome
And it has 0 cooldown out of combat
Just awesome
You can pull some really gross stuff with it
I'd probably do xbow + dex weapon/shield
Gloom stalker right ?
yeah, Gloom is really good imo
elaborate on swords bard and rogue cheese
So, swords bard, the ranged version of their flourish can target the same person twice, plus an item you get from the dark urge run turns you invisible on kill, so you can get like 5 attacks each round plus bonus action hide
interesting
