nooo they fixed the stealth combat opening not consuming the action
||She made my characters blood explosive :D|| (Act 3 spoiler)
failing the check to do this is hilarious, btw
Lmao the Act 2 ||Spirit judging guy - got into a fight with him, he shouted "You have been judged and found wanting!" and proceeded to... fail to frighten me
My Pally loads up a Divine Smite - "No sir, you have been judged!" - and bonked him down to... 1hp
||
Lmao noooooo
There's only 1 hit point that matters
Ah it was more "spot the sneak attack range rogue"
was just informed they also changed the look of the spider lyre! its beautiful!
【QRT of roach spice (@ghoulbrainz):】
'i have no idea if this was mentioned in the patchnotes or not because i didnt read all of them but they changed the look of the sussur dagger in this patch https://t.co/37oeksJfUF'
💖 5
The Nere Paladin dialog options go hard.
So does the bard one
Anybody else struggling with sliders in character creation after the last patch or
They nerfed Lae'zel just like they nerfed Gale, killing the funniest speedrunning category ever.
?
I imagine they fixed some glitch used in speedrunning
You used to kill Gale, throw their corpse in a box, then glitch travel into the finale of ||act 2 and endthe game there||
Lae'zel's one was the sex% speedrun
Ah yeah they changed her romance stuff
you need to prove yourself instead of just having enough approval
or something
this doesn't really change much for me as I've not yet had a Lae'zel make it to Act 2 lul
Makes sense in char to
so I equipped my dual-wielding ranger with hand crossbows too
and it's every bit as brutal
Lae'zel is SO COOL you gotta experience act 3 lae'zel at least once
yeah her storyline is amazing
it was kinda hampered a bit by the fact that my paladin stole all her stuff in the nautiloid and uh, we're a 4 stack so she's been butt naked for the whole game
in solo play she has a lot of fun dialogue for a lot of the Situations, and i enjoy her banter with the others, particularly Gale
laezel is just a horse girl for red dragons
I think if you start as Shadowheart there's a thing like that to
No, just checked.
Yep, pod's just empty
I find it really funny that the first of bard dialogue option when talking to Volo about ||the Goblins is correct. The goblins are the unknownig vanguards of an illithid invasion.||

Don't you hate it when you're trying to get the permanent +1 from the hag, but you accidentally crit her with a scorching ray for 30 damage, instantly killing her?
Yeah, for some reason on my paladin she didn't want to talk to Karlach or Astarion, so I kept having to reload a quicksave I made
https://fxtwitter.com/glacier_clear/status/1722169742784422223
Glacier did some nsfw pieces too so fair warning if you check their Twitter
But I'm fully here for their simping for Karlach arc
Lmao
https://youtu.be/uU9OUKDhekA?si=utluyxt1Tr2sf2zI til astarion has a unique reaction to biting Karlach
Karlach reacts to meeting Astarion

What happens if you recruit Wyll before Astarion
#baldursgate3
“What the!! It burns!!!”
K: “WHAT THE HELLS DID YOU EXPECT?!”
How do you make a Warlock using a Pact weapon use Charisma instead of Strength for their attacks?
Oh, nevermind, I think I've got it now
GOTY award retracted
I remember seeing that mod lmao
theyve been slowly making them for everyone
is this memeing on the Handsome Astarion one?
I like the handsome shart one
:(
:(?
understandable
That's how most people respond to my half orc
Yo my monk is fuckin cracked
I just did like, half of Anders health in a single turn
Playing regular monk or str monk?
Regular Dex
Monk does have a ton of really nice magic item that way
I'm glad they didn't leave monk in the dust cause it doesn't wear regular armor
Enchanted clothing can get so good
Which subclass did you choose?
Just picked Way of Shadow
Oh nice, I like that one as "I'm you (rogue) but better"
Gradually making progress in multiplayer. I finally have a second crossbow, but I haven't gotten to use it because I spent the entire harpy fight charmed...
Playable-on-disc? Must be the Baldur's Gate 3 - Deluxe Edition.
Preorder: https://larian.club/BG3DE
The Deluxe Edition for PS5, Xbox, and PC includes the Digital Deluxe edition, as well as exclusive physical feelies, including a 3-disc OST, map, and more - all for $79.99.
ooo stickers
I’ll turn myself into stickers
Since finishing the game I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat. The Power is damn good at evoking nostalgia for a game I literally just played.
That box looks good
Assuming it's good quality
Would of been nice to get some dice or a GM screen or something though
I know not everyone who is buying this would use them, but the same can said for stickers, patches, poster, worldmap etc
And it'd be cool to have
a set of the orange larian dice in game would be cool
Hey there, just wanted to check really quick, because I haven't actually played BG3: is there any negative mechanical consequence to ||partaking of extra tadpoles?|| Party members agreeing or disagreeing with the choice to do so doesn't count.
I'm following Matt Colville's advice and designing my own take on it for fun but he had all these wild suggestions for what it could be doing but when I went online people said ||there are no consequences.|| But I wanted a second opinion.
||Just using tadpoles to unlock mind flayer powers basically only gives you new powers as far as i know. I'm in act 3 atm and i can say that the only mechanical change it adds is you having new abilities, the only other thing it might do that i can tell is change some dialogue but that's about it.||
I think it also ||increases the DC of the check to avoid going half-Illithid||
Thank you! @hard bear This is some extra context to the Colville video that imo makes it a little funny that he gushed so much about it.
Some commenters on Reddit have said ||they've had dialog options appear that suggest they've taken extra tadpoles when they haven't.||
Is this in reference to the ||Astral Tadpole|| that I've seen in some posts?
||i have yet to complete a run so i am unsure about the specifics, but i am certain it does add some new dialogues, since i had the option to goad companion NPC's into taking tadpoles after i took a few, so it must have some dialogue affects.||
||i was however unable to actually do this since i am in a party of 4 players and thus do not have access to companion content|<||
||yes||
||i didn't want to mention it but since you already know, there is, later in the game, the opportunity to unlock the locked Illithid abilities in the ability menu, however this does have some pretty significant changes to both character and gameplay||
||Appearance wise anyways||
All the guides I saw just said it ||makes companions dislike you and it makes you look goth!|| I didn't know that! I think I was looking at a bad wiki--what guide site should I be looking at for BG3 research?||
||I’m not actually sure there’s lasting consequence||
Well, thank you for telling me, that's helpful.
||Same, to be blunt, the consequence i assume occurs is metamorphosis into a Ceremorph, which i consider to be pretty fucking significant. However the baseline effects that accepting the astral tadpole cause are as follows: You become half Ceremorph which changes your appearance, your companions will react negatively to you, you will unlock the ability to fly permanently, and you gain access to the previously locked abilities in the tadpole menu, which are very powerful abilities such as shapeshifting into a displacer beast among other things||
||there wasn't really any in my run. And having free 60 feet flight was stupid good||
||I do not know as to the level that Companions will react negatively as i have not had experience with it myself, as mentioned i am in a 4 player game||
||negative reactions are basically just one Dislike ping that was easy enough to mitigate IME||
||I also have yet to finish the game so i am unsure if becoming half Illithid/Ceremorph has any consequences aside from making you look kinda fucked up and a bit evil||
||I also think it makes your character look kinda ugly which is the only reason i did not end up becoming half Ceremorph/Illithid||
Spoilers for the very end of the game: ||my tadpole died in my head at the very end so you basically get off scott free||
hope that information helped anyhow
feel free to ping me if you need any more information, i can do my best to help
This was enormously helpful and it's all I think I needed, thank you so much! ||This makes Matt Colville's video just... enormously funny.||
great stuff, glad to hear it
There are ||some rolls that will be harder and a couple dialogue changes but honestly nothing that will effect you in meaningful ways||
Source I've done playthoughs with and without
Exception with two major choices late in the game but I think others have already mentioned them
The ||astral|| tadpole and ||choosing to go full mindflayer||
But those are sign posted in game imo
If it helps, you will not feel weaker without it either
Yeah I was expecting a fantasy version of Cyberpsychosis--which I realized recently is basically the curse from Princess Mononoke.
It'll also affect ||your relationship with your Guardian and how they talk to you in acts 2/3, but its minor changes||
if that hadnt been mentioned
New playthrough go!
Still never made it to Act 2 lmao
But I am very cute
Or, y'know, maybe not...
Jesus christ what the fuck is happening in this game
every save I roll is coming up Nat 1
The enemy is critting every other attack
By Desna I did it
I cleared out the Duegar camp, after entering it at like, half health and with no short rests remaining, and saved the trapped gnome.
Hm. Barbarian 5/Thief Rogue 3/Battlemaster Fighter 4. Berserker or Bearheart for the Barbarian subclass?
Bear is nice
Berserker with Thief is fun in concept but the penalties stack up fast
Kind of painful going Wildheart and not getting Aspect of the Stallion to go with Thief though
Bear is just so good, especially if you grab the perm psychic resistance you can get
You could consider respeccing down to Thief 4/Fighter 2 so you could get that in, because free temp hp each turn is fantastic
don't need to worry about penalties if you're chuckin' grenades!
I am horribly sad
Somebody tore my eye out
They gave me a replacement but...
It doesn't look as pretty as my other eye
Nah, ||Volo||
What does ||Granny|| give you in return?
I got a pretty cool ||permanent See Invisibility|| from the replacement
outside of rp purposes, its much less worth it imo: ||you get Intimidation bonus, but disadvantage on Perception and problems fighting hags||
Also, one thing that's kinda annoying
Longstrider
Ritual spell, lasts until long rest
Gotta cast it on each person individually 😔
Whats that give you, extra 3m movement?
Yeah
When you get to higher levels it becomes less bad cause you can upcast it as a ritual to target multiple people at once,
Wait, you can? Wow, that'd have saved me so much time if I'd known
You can, yeah
I just like being beholden to a scary old lady
Wizard detected
Incorrect
But the hat
very cute warlock hat
Despair
I want Lae'zel to be a polearm fighter, but I just learned about the really cool Githyanki-only greatsword
its so cool
my 2 cents is that respeccing is really easy in bg3, so go ahead and give her that polearm, and then switch her when you get the cool swords
ooo
Eh, Sentinel's not that bad to have with a Greatsword anyway I don't think so 🤷♀️
Do you have the electric glaive from the Arcane Tower?
If you use it while wearing the Sparkswall ring (also from the Arcane Tower), it can't stun you
Also, on analysis, this barbarian doesn't actually need more than one feat, so Wildheart Barb 6/Thief Rogue 3/Battlemaster Fighter 3 should work well
Pogo Barbarian
In theory I could drop Fighter to 2 and take Rogue to 4 for +1 AC and a bit of extra hp, but I think Battlemaster is probably more valuable to pick up
Question for a friend:
How long does the game take to beat, roughly?
Assuming a first playthrough, taking your time to look around and finish all the quests in an act before moving to the next one
ty
Whew
Just did the (Act 2 Spoilers)||protecting Halsin's portal|| fight
Wall of Fire's pretty nice
Probably didn't need to use all my third level spell slots on Fireball, but I guess it's too late to go back now
I just did a Wall of Fire and Hunger of Hadar at the chokepoint and watched as like, half of the enemies ran in and died
You got spirit guardians?
Aoe damage around you
Moves as you move
Run around the battlefield, everyone dies
- you are the choke point now
Nah, don't got a Cleric in the party
I've taken well over 100 hours in my first playthrough and am near the end of Act 3.
Yeah, 100 is probably a safe estimate, adjusted up/down depending on if they're skipping anything/being particularly thorough
Cleric + Druid + Warlock has been a ton of fun, just park the Cleric in a chokepoint with Hunger of Hadar + Spike Growth in front
You shall not pass
Damn, Hunger of Hadar kinda fucks
The best part of Hunger of Hadar is it counters the scariest enemy spell in the game:
Hunger of Hadar
And I'm a Warlock so it's on a short rest
And I don't even cast any other spells anyways lol
It's also at the perfect level for Warlock multiclasses
You take 5 levels to get your upgraded pact boon and also Hunger of Hadar
I'm going full lock, cause I personally am not fond of multiclassing
That's entirely fair
But, I rescued Thaniel
And now it's time to sleep, and tomorrow I'll be off to Moonrise
(Er, in game)
I was wondering lol
Noooooo
I found a magic helmet that's really useful
But I can't wear it and my cute pointy hat at the same time
Truly the worst part of the Warlock experience
At least you can hide the hat and Warlocks get nice robes
The hat could be for camp
Or just run around in camp clothes all the time
If it fits that slot
I don't think the witch hats do, sadly
Bg3 needs glamouring
It really does
Being able to use camp clothes instead is a nice option but there's a lot of armor that's good fashion
I think we'll get it in like a remaster
(Also there's some annoying bugs with light sources and camp clothes)
The system basically already exists with camp clothes
Bonus points if you have a Barbarian (and potion or caster with Enlarge)
When they eventually struggle to the edges just toss them right back into the center
That’s what I do
I don’t think enlarge actually allows you to throw people you can’t usually throw
Huh, that's annoying
Holy shit
New hat
Took me 20 minutes to determine if it was worth it
Hm
Wondering about my odds of taking down all of Moonrise
Ah, I should deal with Thorm first
I need to reload a bit back
I kissed Wyll and now I think the game thinks he's my romance but I want Karlach
In theory I don't think the game stops you from having multiple partners? Something like, most companions aren't poly and will ask you to commit if you're dating more than one?
Maybe, but honestly it wasn't that much lost progress, and I don't wanna risk it
Who amongst us wouldn't skip an awkward relationship talk by rewinding time
Tieflings: saved
Got a pretty fuckin neat robe out of it too
Does it make CHA apply to my Eldritch blasts twice, now?
Looks like it does, actually
Yep
Yep, welcome to the best Warlock item in the game
What the fuck?
Come on game
I walk into a room with my entire party
Who enters the conversation?
Literally everyone except for me, the person who actually has a Charisma score
I'm actually fucking pissed at that
I should take a break I'm starting to get upset...
Question: does the two-handed weapon fighting style reroll affect dice from divine smite?
Hm, checked the wiki, looks like the answer is yes
That’s pretty slick
Defense still might be worth more, tho …
But which is more fun, this is the true path
the funniest thing for me was cosplaying a fighter for 90% of our run in BG3
the party Warlock dripped out in heavy armor and a greatsword
I’m running a Pallock
nice
yeah i just had 1 level in fighter for heavy armor and weapon prof.
i also had heavy armor mastery and defensive fighting
Yeah, I started Paladin for the same reason
i respecced at around lvl 12 so now i have 1 level in Sorc instead which is fucking hilarious
because
i did not have any draconic blood and now i do
But I should be getting level 2 in Paladin soon
and i still get the Draconic Bloodline options for talking
Hence decision
so Withers just added a bit of funny dragon spice to my DNA i guess
What if I want to Rage before I ambush someone?
Or, in this specific case: use Psionic Overload to guarantee the kill on a very scary enemy I'm attacking from stealth
They also decided some things are like one-a-day and it feels arbitrary
Like Mage Hand?
That made me so sad
(Yes I know that's technically once a short rest, but what the fuck anyways?)
like it's not that overpowered a cantrip, did they fear it'd break some puzzles or something
They did so much good stuff, that it makes the "Why would you do this?" decisions so much worse
Open Hand Monk receives gifts from heaven, Four Elements remains.. well
It got a lil ki regen I think
Yeah it was a lovely surprise for leveling up ngl
I might respec into it, actually...
Well, I'll play Shadows until I get to the cool Shadows stuff first
(And also this is a Multiplayer game so)
Also: the Yurgir fight
Man, this one's kinda brutal
Yurgir is, certainly one of the fights of all time
With thief
I just realised something
Two flurries in a round 4/per short rest is a hell of a thing
So, I have Psionic Overload, the one that makes you do +1d4 psychic damage per attack but take 1d4 psychic every round
I'm a Warlock with the Potent Robe. I gain 4 temp HP at the start of every turn
I basically don't take any damage from Psionic Overload
Yeah you’ll be fine
So, Strength Monk: why? What's so special about it?
Tavern Brawler
Theres a silly math interaction with the feat Tavern Brawler
Ah, they changed that one
It doubles your Str bonus to attack with unarmed strikes
Yeah, I can start to see it
It's broke
Combine it with being able to shove, and the ludicrous mobility monks get
I will say, trying both, its largely unnecessary overkill, but it is fun.
Does STR monk lose out on any particularly great magic items?
No
Depends on if youre using items to raise stats, but thats part of what makes it work
If anything, you start Fighter 1 and get heavy armor and shields
Since theres items that set your STR/DEX to high values so you can dump them in respecs
Actually, where do you find those items?
The one for Dex is in the Gith creche
An early str one is in the underdark mage tower
You can’t use that one with unarmed strikes tho
Or you just run it with heavy armor and have better AC and itemization anyway >_>
this game does not need to be optimized so hard lmao
i hate multiclassing so i enjoy the Stool
It doesn’t need to be but I find it fun
it felt judgemental idk
'why would you build something the WRONG way when stats could be higher'
ok
even playing on tactician, you don't need to optimize much if you don't want to
But yes you can do the strength club on a monk and benefit from it for jump distance, offhand attacks like Flurry, and shoving and carrying items
though our party has partially done it and we kinda breeze through most our encounters once we get into a flow
Oh boy time to (I assume) fight
What's his name
Starts with a B
Bartholemew?
Baltizaar?
In Act 2?
Yeah
The guy with the undead servants?
Also, I am doing this temple without Shadowheart
Because, well,
I just kinda don't wanna take her in my party
It's got a good comp, y'know?
Yeah
Minor temple spoilers you may want to know ||You should bring her along before the end if you want to keep her||
Okay! Just thought that deserved a warning
Thank you for the warning
(I knew his name all along :P)
Ah
Okay
So it's going to be like that, is it?
(I started the fight and got fucking instantly killed from full health by a single attack from him, after he rolled to go first)
Motherfucker's rolling double the initiative of anyone in my party
They changed initiative for BG3
Dex and any bonuses to init way more dramatic 'cause there's no d20, it's a d4
:|a must just have innate buffages
Oops
I fucked up
Oh that's not good...
I messed up with the spells I had prepared on Gale, but really don't want to reload cause I got good initiative this time...
Well, I can haste Karlach at least
Hmm...
Lotta guys this fight, and I don't have fireball prepped...
Okay, question
How do you counter Sleep?
Be Elf, but otherwise depends on the source I guess.. just Sleep the spell?
Yeah
It's kinda hard to avoid not having low hit points when this asshole does fucking 40 damage turn 1, so
Ok, I reloaded and I have a new, improved plan
The plan did not work.
Help action for Sleep
That doesn't really help much, honestly
When initiative looks like 1,2,3,enemy that casts sleep,4, and also they can just instantly shut down concentration with it
I did manage to kill Balthazar turn one this time though
I do not like this fight.
It feels intensely unfair
Do you have any sources of aoe radiant damage in the party?
I just had two party members instantly killed by being pushed into a chasm
like, Shadowheart cleric solos that one, in a sense
I can't even position myself to avoid that because I have a like, 5 foot outcrop I can be in that starts the fight if I leave, and this motherfucker has a bigger initiative bonus than half my party combined
I don't even really see how aoe radiant damage would help?
Like, none of them have vulnerability to it, or even resistance to anything else
Turn Undead into Spirit Guardians make short work of undead crowds in act 2
its not about vulnerability so much as most of them have to come into melee to threaten you
Turn Undead Into Spirit Guardians is my favorite spell /j
and spirit guardians fucks that over hard
It's just the fact that it's an atrocious position combined with a guy who can instakill any member of my party goes guaranteed first
Which guy is instakilling you?
Balthazar
I don't recall anyone but Balth hims- yeah okay
Instakill is a bit of an overexaggeration
IIRC the Elixir of Alertness or whatever it's called is quite nice for just dropping a Hunger of Hadar on him before he can do anything
do you have any Counterspell users?
He brings anybody down to single digit hitpoints
The one that gives +5 to initiative
I actually managed to Hunger of Hadar and kill him round one
Elixir of Vigilance*
Half my party immediately got pushed into the chasm and instantly died.
yyyeah, that fight is nasty for positioning
Though it's very nice for booping enemies off into the chasm
I think most of my party was further back when the fight started, just had one person walk in and trigger it
Is there anywhere I can buy a scroll of counterspell
So they couldn't shove anyone else
I did not take it when I levelled up because like, I have never fought a spellcaster that has cast spells worth counterspelling before
Scrolls are semi-randomize shop loot
I don't think there are scrolls of it, AFAIK no reaction items exist
But you could go chat with Withers
This game has a habit of throwing absolutely fucking brutal fights at me out of nowhere that absolutely crush any will I have to actually keep playing because it just feels like a "You didn't see this coming? Fuck you." to me
It definitely feels like some of the fights' difficulty varies a lot by composition
First it was the Grymforge, and now this
And like, I don't even know what I'm supposed to do here
the game is pretty bad at telegraphing when the hard fights are
It's a mandatory fight, I don't know of anything I missed to give me extra levels in this act
It's too easy to just be knocked off a cliff and instantly die
Ah that random archer had a knock back arrow
Alas
IIRC 3/4 of my party has immunity to forced movement at this point because sod that
I want to see a DM irl pull this move
Maybe a cleric could help, but I don't know how to effectively use a cleric at this point, there's no other fights left I can get in, and the thought of having to constantly reload this fight to figure out how to avoid a TPK is exactly what I'm trying to avoid
Got any consumables that might be able to give you an edge? Elixirs, spell scrolls?
who is your party
You have fireball on Gale but not prepped, iirc?
Does Gale know Silence? Could ritual cast that to start the fight, keep Balthy from doing his thing
Silence is not a Wizard spell, unfortunately
Not sure if it stops thunder arrows though
Wait, it's not? Huh.
Many years of playing 5e and I just learned that lol
you can still cast it via scroll as a wizard but youd have to have it
my strat for that fight is to AoE the left side and push in away from the cliffs edge first round, and then spam AoEs constantly or having my key melee bruisers crush the wizards
IIRC Karlach with a Potion of Speed can just run around yeeting priority targets out of the arena
It's pretty great
Potions of Speed are insanely good in general, if you have them
I don't have any :(
Oh wait yes I do, they were just hidden
I thought it was weird I didn't have any
The cheese method for Balthazar is to talk and have someone gather all the skeletons into one place and when combat starts thunder wave them all off a cliff
we dont need no stinkin cheese, fae's strong enough i believe in them
Idk if it was patched but I've seen it done
I'm gonna give it one more try, remembering to use my consumables, and then I'm gonna take a break
How long do Oils last?
I have a Wizardsbane Oil I've been holding onto for Desna knows how long and I feel like this is the perfect moment to use it
Did you get the mace from the Githyanki creche?
It can help a lot with dealing with undead
who is dying the most LOL
Yeah it can trivialize big parts of Act 2.
it gives a free revive which is sweet
Gale can have it
that could really swing things in your favor
Hm, there's an alchemist in Moonrise I could check for any nice Elixrs
I think the funniest thing i've done in BG3 so far was start a trial thing in a location which required me to hold an item, then attempt to use banishment on myself which not only did not work but instantly failed the trial
I managed to cheese the Shar mirror fight by telling everyone to stay in camp, walking in alone, sneaking up to the mirror and sneak attacking it with my EB
Didn't even get a turn to fight back
(She had no Elixirs)
I also respecced Gale so I could take Counterspell on him
Update: Wizardsbane Oil lasts 10 turns
Good thing I saved before applying it
Um, okay, UI question
I accidentally clicked for half a second too long and removed one of my illithid powers from my bar, how do I get it back?
Nevermind I reflexively pressed c to bring up my character menu and have to reload anyways
The Shar mirror fight was incredibly silly, because for some reason it decided to make a mirror version not of my Warlock, but of my summoned skeleton
Balthazar also has a very annoying and uncanny knack for landing critical hits on my warlock, instantly downing them from full health
And me, fool that I am
Choose not to negate it
Through the power of cheesy positioning, this fight is already going much better
To double check, you don't have Karmic Dice enabled, do you?
I do
Unless they've changed it, that can cause enemies to crit you a lot
Since it forces them to roll high enough to hit you with some frequency
True, that's allegedly, I haven't tested myself
I chose the worst possible time to change it lol
I think I went into the options menu just as a reaction popped up, locking my game
Thank you all, for being so kind and helpful
I feel like I really cheesed this fight...
To a ludicrous degree
I just shot Balthazar from up here...
And it seems like none of the melee guys can actually jump up this far?
I went from regularly getting wiped to finishing the fight without taking like, any damage
And I hardly used any consumables either
The opportunity just... never came up?
(Much like Balthazar's minions)
20 charisma good
big
i think i'm at 22 charisma on my character
not using the spellsparkler though
i have a funny staff
there's a hat in act 3 iirc that gives you an uncapped +2 charisma
Yes, act 3
pretty sure you could use that to wind up hitting a 24 charisma
24?
My plan for storming Moonrise is not going well
The Harpers do not seem to understand the concept of "Don't stand inside the Hunger of Hadar"
Yeah, that's the very specific fight where Hunger of Hadar to counter Hunger of Hadar matters a lot
Who has Hunger?
My Warlock did, putting it on the enemy casters before they can do their thing means they don't have sight to cast it
I meant which of the enemies do
Oh, there's a pair (?) of casters that have it
Ah
The Harpers do love to walk into friendly Hungers and Spike Growths as well though
See, I won initiative, cause they seem to all have rolled 1, and Hunger was the first thing I did
There's some people up top in a rather unfortunate position
Unfortunate for them, because I can probably count on two hands the times I've missed an Eldritch Blast in this game
Eldritch blast is nice
Blooping them off the rafters in that fight felt so mean
Honestly it's like, the sole reason I'm a Warlock in the first place
EB never gets old
It's the thing Warlocks do tbh
My warlock does more cool stuff though, like have 3 resistances at any given time
Of which i can pick 2
2 of them are elemental and one of the picks i have can be any damage type which is pretty nice
Githyanki enemies sobbing as i equip psychic resist
My how the turntables
See, the difference between them and me, is that I put my fighter up front to stop them from running out and beating the shit out of the person concentrating on it
In Act 3 there’s a sharran mirror that still works and you can take a dispellable curse in return for a permanent stat buff. That plus the hat that gives you +2 Cha is 24.
Wonderful
you can actually get a second cha buff from the mirror
so you can get to 26 charisma
+1 from the hag, +2 from the mirror, +1 cha specifically from the mirror's extra prompt, +2 from the hat
and just cap it naturally as well
I thought the hag's buff stopped at 20?
I rolled 40 damage
not unless they patched that!
far as I know, it caps out at uhh
40 or something?
Sick
just an arbitrary limit you can't hit
eldritch blast moment
casual 3d10+21
achievable 3d10+3d6+24+whatever the fuck else buffs you can stack
(There are a lot)
How does all that work in multiplayer? Can only one person get each buff? (the hat is straightforward, at least)
everyone can mirror buff
only one person can get the hag hair
hat is hat
there's other buffs for other stats, however
str from the drow woman is the one I remember
but I think every stat has a couple bits and bobs
Oh, does anyone ever know if they fixed respec as an Oathbreaker?
checks Looks like he just won't do it
Makes sense
yeah you gotta unbreak
and then go rebreak somewhere else if you want to be an OB again
That's irritating because if I can get to 26 I might as well shuffle my stats around a bit, but I like being a Good Oathbreaker and I'm not eager to do things that would break the oath again
I'm like, almost fucking dead, no short rests and I can't long rest
yeah there're mods to get around that, but it's annoying that you can't in core easily
oh what's this hag buff?
so basically if you act like an enormous douche to Ethel in a1 once you hit her house
but don't start a fight
and make sure mayrina lives
You don't have to avoid starting a fight
and then continue being a gigantic dick when she tries to surrender
you can say "no, fuck you, we're making a deal and mayrina gets to live"
oh my
and then that deal can be her ripping out a chunk of her scalp and hair
which when eaten gives a +1 to one stat of your choice, pre-selected when she tears it out
She flees into her lair when you start the fight, and when you track her down yeah you can intimidate her when she surrenders
this can overcap
damn
and so when you get the mirror buff for +2 in a3, and the other mirror buff for specifically +1 CHA, you can get to 24
or 26 with the +2 cha hat
taking notes for my current 'lock run lol
There's an absolutely wild Warlock 5/Dragon Sorc 7 build that gets comically huge Eldritch Blasts
and then there's that one robe that adds your cha to all cantrip damage rolls
of course, you can also stack Thirsting Blade with extra attack
so this eldritch blast goonery isn't the only form of excessive attack damage you can get
what with all the artifact weapons lying around
Agonizing Blast + Potent Robe + that one staff that makes your blasts give you lightning charges + Dragon Sorc Cha Mod To Lightning Spells + I think there's some other stuff
So you get at least 1d10+24 to eldritch blast damage
Ah great.
Actually, you know there's also Duke Ravengard's Longsword for another +2 Charisma
So hypothetical 28?
Is there any way to long rest before the second Ketheric fight?
Cause I'm at single digit hitpoints on my entire party
Oh thank Desna there's one of the long rest things
There's a necklace that also gives +cha to elemental spells, for which lightning charged EBs count
Ah, right, that was your build, wasn't it?
And the +2 damage to things in bright light ring, plus the inflict illuminating orb on hit ring
Yep
Not dragon sorc but otherwise max EB
It's terrifying
So that's like ... if absolutely maxed, that's 1d10+38 damage 3 times per round, or 6 times per round with quicken spell. Which is. Not a small amount.
Plus knockback, you know, for shits and giggles.
Fun fact about those things
They don't replenish Divination Wizard's Portents
good
They also don't recharge magic items
Also, Haste/Potion of Speed and Bloodlust Elixir bumps it up to 4x per turn
Money warlock goes brrrrr
Where by “goes brrrrr” we mean “does 468-576 damage if they hit with all attacks”
Solo Tactician House of Grief in One Turn! #baldursgate #baldursgate3 #bg3
Max/max builds and soloing the entire ||house of hope|| boss fight in 1 turn
Spoiled for act 3
mf playin bg3 like it's path of exile
Act 3 spoilers, larian thought of everything including the most evil choices you can make || https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8yAaBUo/||
And I thought killing karlach was bad
For the evils
Question: Is Champion Fighter bad?
I'm thinking of Respeccing Lae'zel into it cause frankly, having to manage me, Gale, and Battle Master Lae'zel is just a bit too much
It doesn't get you as much as the other subclasses, but you're still a fighter at the end of the day. One nice upside is she will have hilarious jumping distance
It's fine. All of its features are passive so you can just turn your brain off and hit things
I've had Lae'zel as a Battle Master for all of Act 1/2, and I just don't use them
All my brainpower is used on managing the two casters in my party
Oops I think I fucked up Arabella's quest?
Do I need to long rest after telling her?
Or can I leave the act and it'll still work
I wish there was a way to like, pause the game/cutscenes to actually give them time to load models and the world and everything
Every time I enter a new area the cutscene starts and plays before it's actually loaded in
So it's a bunch of a-posing models floating in the skybox with the voicelines playing
Which quest?
Generally, a lot of events are tied to long rests, and they can sorta stack up
So it can be worth doing a few in a row to see if things clear out
You won't run out
It gets better as you have ways to give advantage or increased crit rate, which bg3 actually has, and its nice because, as you said, playing 4 characters is a lot
Okay, weird problem
Talking to Wyll while I'm on the road to baldur's gate seems to softlock my game
Champion fighter is like berserker, valor bard, and open hand monk. Its the basic class plus. An straightforward, simple, no nonsense upgrade with no fancy bells or whistles.
Hm
Ugh
I want to do a new game, but I'm torn bewteen Githyanki Shadows Monk, or a Dwarf Strength Open Hand
Or finishing my current one
I'm a fan of dwarf punch fella
Hm, probably gonna be a Githyanki Wizard when The Council convenes
So I think I'll go for the Dwarf Open Hand
Although, I think I'm gonna finish this one first cause I just got the new Illithid powers
Dwarves get some neat dialogue options
Iron Beard Style: Ten Thousand Flagon Fist is my signature move
I will train myself to think about axes
They're fun to think about
The axe is nothing without the hand, and the hand is nothing without the mind.
Woah there's a circus here!!
Oh you're in act 3?
Yaaaay!!!!
And the owl bear just came to you?
Well, it came to me when I was leaving Act 2
Ah okays
I have not done many long rests this game.
Yeah you must of had a back log of events
I recommend doing lots of long rests
You will not run out of food and events are tied to them
Just cos you might miss out of stuff otherwise
I play with a mod that lets me know if there’s a long rest event
Okay fine
I'll buy another clown makeup and do some long rests
Snrk
I have 350 camp supplies
Well, I just did two long rests and got no events, so I'm gonna keep going
Me and Karlach are wearing clown makeup 😌
One thing to know is there's no cost to doing a long rest without supplies, you just won't get all the benefits of a long rest. So what you can do is long rest once using supplies then immediately afterwards rest 10 times in a row without using supplies to clear out the backlog of long rest events
Question: So, the mind flayer flight ability
It used to be bound to z, but now pressing z just makes me jump, which is kinda rubbish on this character
Is there any way to go back to having Z be the hotkey for Fly?
Oh god
The circus got hands
of course, how could they juggle without them?
act 3 spoilers ||holy shit Ethel lived, fucking hell||
Surprise
||and she ate a fucking child, jfc||
||i am not going to have a good time what with my Hag Eye||
Oh noooo
||we gonna have to kill her again somehow anyway||
||you spared a hag boss, it's what they do
||
||we did not spare any hags, we killed her||
...huh
that shouldn't have happened
||if you got the eye, I think you can't kill her||
||like we very specifically fought her to the death down in her cave||
||so you probably accidentally splashed overkill damage before she would've done her thing||
||and the game just checked you for the eye||
||that's weird, cause we had a convo where she tried to beg for mercy and everything, and we declined her boon and killed her||
||yeah, the eye is separate from the +1 stat boon, but it should also have locked out killing||
||not sure what's up with it, though, it's been a bit||
maybe they changed some stuff
Oh ||Ethel comes back even if you killed her||
||and you can save the child while killing her by using a potion of hag bane on her or switching to non lethal||
||i see, cause we definitely did kill her in her cave, i'm sure of it||
Yeah ||she comes back no matter what||
||but if you took the deal it's harder iirc||
||kinda figured yeah cause i have disadvantage when fighting hags||
Luckily she's the only one
huh, I could have sworn otherwise
It could be glitched but that's what happened to me across like 3 playthroughs
Likely intended ||cause if you dialogue with her before killing her she complains that death is painful and inconvenient but she has her ways to come back||
I assume ||the mushrooms bring her back||
||They do in combat at least, it was certainly a surprise for me when she came back to life a 3rd time||
ye 100%
love the hair
Wow is that modded?
yeah i forget the hair pack
but it looks good as hell
I'll ask my buddy which one it comes from she assembled a modlist for our games
It looks very good
We have many that exist for pure dress-up purposes
I've seen a lot of pretty women mods in bg3 so to see a handsome little guy is refreshing
He is a very handsome orc
i trust him with my life
The D&D half-orc he's based on is a very nice fellow, if a bit
"Will commit the crimes for money"-flavored
"Have you ever heard about the half-orc assassin in town?"
"No."
"That is because I am a very quiet orc."
[violence.mp3]
I do not care what stat governs strength I want to use the greatsword
I will be a broken record and say Larian really did a great job making martials feel strong with the great magic item support they get
The heavy and medium armors are often so good
I'm still slightly annoyed at the lack of heavy armor in the first half of act 1, but otherwise yeah it's great
It is!
It's definitely a top tier crpg
if your friend jumps off a cliff, would you jump after them
laezel:
fly like the comet
If vlakith told you to jump-
Oh she's falling
"Vlaakith would never tell me to jump off a cliff! I am not unworthy! Only the weak are ordered to jump off cliffs!"
I read that in her voice
That was my goal
If Vlaakith is so great why can't she conquer a single githzerai fortress
||(Because it is a colossal magitech psychic fortress of adamantium drifting through Limbo)||
Sad I can't play a Githzerai tbh
Like, I fully get why they didn't put them in
But still

I enjoyed the Githzerai cameo
Act 2 spoilers: ||In the end of Act 2, under Moonrise, you can hook up a brain to the mind-reading device and its a githzerai guy who will talk with you about gith/mindflayers and give you a permanent buff; he's a little out of the way behind a puzzle||
Inside the ||Illithid colony||?
||he gets very offended if you compare him to a githyanki, it rules||
That ||puzzle is rough to figure out||
I did manage after like 10 minutes
Rip I missed it
im puzzlepilled, im puzzlebrained
i got that one
It's like the only proper puzzle in the game iirc
i was looking at the ||funny brain jars and ended up getting it on accident||
Oh well, I'll get that on a later playthrough
theres so many little cool things you can miss for several playthroughs, games massive
And it's easy to miss the ||brain speaker machine, I even carried 2 heads from the intro ship to it||
Honestly, I feel like I missed a fair bit of Act 2
The big thing I missed in act 2 are the ||kuo toa||
I'm kinda just trying to finish the game rn
Er, I'm still doing like, sidequests and stuff
That's still act 1
Act 1 ends when you enter the Shadow-Cursed land / Moonrise area
Act 2 ends when you finish Moonrise
Is act 2 supposed to feel really short
its got a lot packed into it
I had to have missed stuff
Act 2 has two entire ways to enter it, and then you have ||the Last Light Inn, the entirety of the land with all its little quests, Moonrise before/after, the destroyed city, and the temple, and all the quests related to all of it||
I think we gunned too hard for the tower
And once we got there ||literally everyone except our party members and the aasimar died at the front gate||
It was a disaster
I do think act 2 is the shortest if you just beeline the main quests, having done that recently
Yea theres few gates between you and end of act 2
I guess act 1 can be easily skipped the you just get past the gith to the mountain pass
There's a noncombat way to do it, the real trick imo is sneaking past gnolls since they'll fuck you up if you go too early
They’ll fuck you up if you don’t go too early too >_>
I am about to fight a Steel Watcher
Let's see how tough they are when there's not 6 of them shaking down some poor man at once, eh?
Scrap 'em
Damn
That death explosion sure is something
I was not expecting it to kill the people I was trying to save
Oh I'm not in the factory yet
Hot date clearly
act 3 spoilers ||oh yeah and we found out what happened to that Githyanki egg we gave to those researcher weirdos||
I gave them ||an owl bear one||
||turns out it grew up into a weird prodigy gith and slaughtered all the researchers for being shitty and then tried to kill us as well||
I fear similar results
||needless to say, the kid did not survive||
I forgor to actually give her the egg
||really trying to punch above their weightclass fighting us honestly, with the expected result of dying horribly||
So I'm just carrying it around with me
me and the lads making ethically questionable decisions that always end in tragedy
immense civilian casualties follow our every step in spite of our attempts to save people
Yooo i didn't know this was an option
Oh yeah. No.
Today I learned ||you can recruit Minthara|| and I'm flabbergasted
I have to go back and see who else might have a story I missed because my favorite button got between us.
Ye I was surprised to
The full list of recruitables are ||Wyll, Gale, Karlash, Astirion, Lazael, Shadowheart, Halsin, Jahira, Minsc and Minathra||
So you probably didn't miss anyone else
She's there for evil route stuff
I am used to being the party hitman I don't usually stop to talk to people I'm about to get into the mix with unless my gut tells me something's wrong.
That's probably the main reason I recruited karlach, everything about that scene didn't add up
Which scene?
I met the paladins first
Ah okays
They claimed one thing, their wording felt wrong, speak with dead didn't line up with their story, and Wyll's claims didn't match what we found.
The other one though, I'm neck deep in a goblin camp in the ruins of an old temple where they got a whole mess of nasty stuff going on. My IFF was telling me I was surrounded by XP there.
I mean you weren't wrong
||Minthara isn't even antagonist evil she's more cold and practical evil but is against the absolute later on||
||she isn't super evil mostly cold and laughs at Drow men and clowns, she does not like it if you side with the absolute||
Also she's soooo funny
It's a shame that ||you have to give up 2 companions for her unless you skip act 1 and the Grove entirely||
||Shadowheart deleted Laezel and the only reason I didn't stake Astarion after the first run is because my buddy wants to date him. He still rubs me the wrong way a LOT.||
Things are weird in my games
||haha yea shart can kill laezel, that's fun especially if you reconcile between the 2||
Also shart and laezels VA stream a lot now and are good friends who show up on each other's streams
Or play one of them and have them date
I picked up drow for my current durge run and wow. This opens some surprising doors
Like being able to just walk in to ||the goblin camp||
Yea theres a lot of Drow specific dialogue early on
playing Tiefling let's you experience racism
Every once in a while being a half orc has dialogue
Not often enough I feel but I think they cut some corners with options they didn't think would get played often
Dragonkin get some to
I think I've only seen one or two people react to me being a half orc but occasionally my character can say something that harkens to it
I like how you got a status effect where it looks like you are facepalming
The
you heard the lady
I really do miss a lot in my default playstyle huh
Oh I remember that
I remember being betrayed by Karlach in that scene
She was like “oh, I gotta see it!”
And then she disapproved when I accepted the offer
Wait is this the creepy pain guy
And I’m like “This was YOUR idea!”
yes
It's a pretty good buff
Didn't do him much good though
Tis I, I'm not ashamed to admit it
Source is in the pic I don't know much about them
Doubt they do NSFW on FB tho
Half-Drow get the worst of it, regular people think you're a drow and actual drow hate your guts.
My default playthrough with my friend in the beginning, Anders (guy with the curly hair you can punch) called her a foulblood. She told me to kill him. I did. No witnesses but the body was Right There.
This is when I learned I could carry people like they were equipment.
I like being a murderhobo on another party member's leash
You should definitely go back and do a playthrough with Lae’zel, I think you’d like her a lot
She has a lot of murderhobo energy 😄
act 3 spoilers ||huh, I wasn't expecting Sarevok to still be around||
||I killed him dead. best way to deal with the murder tribunal is with murder||
||It actually really bothers me that they undid Sarevok’s redemption arc from ToB||
||Can I convince her Vlaakith sucks||
||I like how the door acknowledges the best way to appease the murder god is to murder his murder tribunal||
Yes
It's a whole character arc
It takes a bit but you can do it by the end of act 1
Lae’zel is fundamentally a terrified, confused young woman whose aggression is an adaptation to survival in a fascist society that demanded it of her
There’s a telling moment where she’s all like, ||”of course I killed my fellow students! That’s the githyanki way … when they came at me first, I guess … because they thought I was a weakling … ||
Astarion has been taught over the course of a century that strength and freedom necessarily imply being a huge asshole to those in your power
Shadowheart has been taught that her whole identity hinges on absolute loyalty
It's true it's why I think those 3 are my favorite, although I have a soft spot for Karlach cause she's like so good despite her past and just keeps soldiering on and never becoming bitter towards strangers
All of them ||present opportunities to break free of these beliefs||
Ngl the low empathy hits weirdly strong with all three of them, but both Wyll and Karlach I'm like "they're my friends they're my besties"
I mean they are all assholes
I did House of Grief last night and discovered something interesting. Act 3/Shadowheart spoilers ||up until this point, I was led to believe that Shadowheart basically went on a solo suicide mission to get the artefact. Then in the House of Grief we find mission details and learn that Shart wasn't alone on this mission, she had a whole team. In fact, she was only supposed to be the team's healer. The rest of her squad didnt make it back||
It’s a question of whether you think helping them ||fix themselves|| is worth putting up with their bad behavior, I think. Which is a pretty big question irl, too.
Maybe that's the thing
Im a fixer type so I really enjoyed seeing them become better and free of their past
Astarion in particular pushes my limits
I'm going to chalk my willingness to drop them up to some kind of moral fatigue and try not to navel gaze in the funny game chat
Shart is fairly benign on a personal level, and Lae’zel is … easy to contain?
She talks a good game
I just like that W and K seem to be opposite extremes of where I like to fall in my characters but with a couple twists I don't normally apply to myself.
I really like both of them
Wyll is one of my favorite recent examples of his flaw being that he's too willing to give up his own safety/security for others
literally too heroic for his own good
and Karlach is similar in that she also got dealt a very early shit hand, and you can learn some cool foils about that in Act 3
of the origin companions i find gale the hardest one to put the effort into personally
probably at least because like. everything wrong with him ||is his fault and he doesn't really seem to have learned everything he needs to from that||
I think learning how much of the Mystra stuff began happening when he was young and impressionable changed some of my views on him, as well as his motivations for why he wants to do some of his act 2/3 stuff being similar to how Astarion acts with his goals in act 3 / similar motivations as to why
That makes sense, but at the same time like, (act 2+3 spoilers) ||man took a chunk of karcite weave into him and still looks at the crown of karsus and goes "shit, we should snag that for ourselves" instead of "ah fuck that needs to be destroyed" and I do not gel with Wizard Arrogance like that||
hahaha thats fair!
I will say that I think Gale is neck and neck with Wyll for sweetest romance, as well
Gale is the most wizardly wizard ever
I want to set Wyll and Karlach up with each other so Mizora can be confused and angry about it
One of Gale’s early romance scenes involves the world’s dorkiest flirting
That’s gotta be worth some points
Gale is silly and fun I just don't vibe with him as much
However
He also lets me use evocation spells
Fireballlllll
fireball solves many problems in life
I can forgive a lot for access to evocation
i just like all my bg3 blorbos
It's wizard time mother fuckers
As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero
I like my OC Blorbo the most and if I could mod him in as an NPC I would
Set him loose on the community like a dragon's dogma pawn
Modding in an NPC in for BG3 unfortunately seems like an immense undertaking
Indeed
remembers fondly the days of BG2 NPC mods
Sadly I cannot simply write one up like a Kenshi companion mod
