Very cool
that so many enviroments are varied is what gives it that adventure feel
Just don’t really know any bosses I like from dark souls 2
yeah theres.... some rough ones in there
I’ve heard fume knight is cool
you aren't gonna see anybody who loves Prowling Magus and Congregation
lol
Boss #19 killed in Dark Souls II - Scholar of the First Sin/DS2 - Prowling Magus and Congregation. Playing as a Warrior class in melee range only, don't enjoy the ranged spell-type/casters or using bows. Mainly STR build.
Bosses may be killed in a weird order, just going through the game as I find stuff without walkthroughs or anything.
Can I use magic from the death guy btw?
This is purely curiosity
Ye
I think so yeah
but its not common
you have to beat him to get at least one of the spells
Ah
yeah
theres only two spells for his magic
and one is a boss reward
and the other is a reward for doing his multiplayer faction stuff, which can be time consuming
ER was a big improvement on amount of spells tbh
Ah
ds2 actually has a lot for spellcasters
oh wait this is 1 boss lmaoo
4 major schools, lots of mixed casting talismans
from your original message i thought it was
- prowling magus
- congregation
nah thats just his band name
amazing
royal rat authority...
but "The Duke's Dear Freya" or "Lost Sinner"?
kinda 🔥
also I was around to respond immediately because I actually came here to ask my own question,
(Nightreign spoilers)
is it just me
||or is this door... suggestive?||
||like its absolutely a vagina, right? or am I crazy.||
I guess they really did add BB references, huh
Bb?
Also sorry to ask so many questions but what’s the build variety like in ds 1?
Like Ik it won’t be as good as that of er
But what can I expect?
in nightrien?
its basicly roguelike in nature so its gonna be luck of the draw
the game that has the most build varity is probally ds2 and ER
ds2 is pretty well known for making pretty much everything viable
i can't even tell you what the worst build is
I meant in dark souls 1? Sorry if I wasn’t clear
its decent
i still agree with alaen on 2
1 i like but the last 1/4th part is not good(even the devs have apologized for parts of it)
and 3 soured for me
Hmmm
2 has some stuff people chaffe with but of the games i felt like it has the less low lows but also less high highs
theres also the factor of 2 has the highest viablity rating when it comes to builds
even the broken longsword has a viabable niche
I heard ds 2 has really long boss run backs
it has the lowest stamina cost, high speed, can be dualwielded at sl1
thats not true
theres a youtube chanel called domo3000 that talks about a lot of the missinfo about it
theres a few run backs that are roughish, but its worse in 1
and 2 of those are optional ones that don't gate anything important
Ds1
Ds2 is the worst of the 3 and the hardest sell, ds3 only makes the most sense after ds1
the main runbacks i can think of hating is dragonrider(who is pretty easy), SOTFS smelter demon(sotfs ironkeep is the only place i think is worse in sotfs), and old dragonslayer(same area as dragonrider)
(bloodborne)
(the joke is ||its got a lot of pregnancy and female-anatomy stuff going on in its designs||)
Ohh
Ye I watched a video about that
one of the really cool things about ds2 vs the other 2
is its non linear
you have one of two conditions you need to fufull to get to the end game
1m souls gained or 4 lord souls
Interesting
Man I’m split
Both seem great
I really like all the lore and maps I’ve seen of ds 1
But Ds 2 doesn’t seem bad either and has some cool mechanics
i think all are wort playing
^
I think the ds2 health punishment mechanic makes it really hard to sell to a new player though
you're probably gonna find souls fans here though lmao
Oooh holy shit im watching a Video rn and the background of ds 2 looks very old
Like graphics wise
the soul ring is pretty early on, and due to your defenses being pretty decent in ds2 as well as life gems its less of a problem than it seams
its honestly not that different from embers, but it does feel worse
and your hp bar is largest in ds2
its about the perception of stuff being taken away
- You have to actually find the soul ring
- Its still so fucking stupid to punish death in the death game holy shit
God its so dumb lmao
Its my biggest beef with ds2 by far
i can understand that, but i think it looks worse than it performs in gameplay
I never found it that big a deal tbh
it takes a while for the penalty to really stack up
humanities are plentiful enough
you can just use the Ring of Binding if you really need to
I did a sl1 run and even with that low of hp I very rarely got oneshot
and also it's very easy to softcap your HP in 2
and with softcap and decent armor you are already pretty tanky, even down a few %
you have at absoutely max hp about 1000 more hp than the other games
if someones asking for recs im just gunna be sure to mention the reasons to pick the others, is all, and the hp punishment in ds2 is a huge turnoff for me and has killed interest for several of my friends in ever playing it
I'm glad others are okay with it, thats good
my personal ranking of the three is 2 > 1=3
mines 2>1>3
1 and 3 both have some things that make me dislike them a bit, but in different ways
1 just aged a lot, but that's to be expected especially when it was the game codifying things still
3 I have a lot of gripes with, mostly that it felt like the start of the game getting a bit too fast for its own good
i think its mainly fine its mainly post ONS thats my issue
1 and 2 are a lot more reactive than 3
i think ds3 is fine as a standalone game, but maybe that's just because i haven't played 1 or 2 😭
A lot of my gripes are definitely how it is in relation to the first two
If you haven't played those it's difficult to see how different the pacing is
makes sense
one post i really agree with is someone saying ds3 enemies is at bloodborne speed while your at darksouls speed
So I did some more research and I find it interesting how dark souls 1 and two look better at different times
Another thing is also that DS3 makes you a lot more fragile in comparison IMO
It's harder to truly just get tanky like you can in 1 and 2
1 particularly you are just ridiculously tough if you're in something like Havel's
i think removing upgradable armor was a mistake without a replacement
i think a good replacement would be an underarmor system where you upgrade underarmor that has diffrent modifiers
so it modified the armor value of the outer armor
…wait did he die to the prowling magus and congregation? I know this is from a while ago but eso of all people dying to the congregation is amazing
The lack of self poise in ds3 combined with how fast most enemies are is frustrating yeah
Granted ds2 doesnt have much poise either but the average mob doesnt move like its got caffeine overload
The faux greirats keep causing me trouble even with all the armor in the world
ds2 has decent poise but its not as silly as 1
i think one thing ds2 has is soft staggers where you get hit but you can still move
a little
Its also why i hate those Judge Holdenesses from the undead settlement/deep cathedral bc those damn things have poise for days, and laugh at you when you try to stunlock em
im not sure i know what your talking about
The big preacher ladies
oh yeah i hate them
With the spiky clubs
they also can hit though walls
Paracausal clubs gdi
The locust priests
Do I get more exploration in ds 1 or ds 2?
Like the game just letting me find stuff by myself
ds1 has a tighter world but the endgame areas are eugh
ds2 has bonfire teleport at game start and has a vareity of locales to visit at game start, becomes more linear near the end of the game
Oh ye I remember people told me that the latter part of ds 1 is not as good
Ye I think 1 still sounds more interesting
world is more connected feeling yes
Great
So like how bad is the bad part of ds 1 compared to the good part?
Like how bad?
Eyesore (literal)
Lava fields that hurt the eyes, entirely populated by dragon asses
Im not joking, the fields are populated by giant reanimated dragyatts
Also bed of chaos
its so bad its the standard for bad gimmik bosses
and is considered one of the worst bosses of all time
The last half of ds1 makes me wonder how people like the game so much
I think it's somewhere between the front end of the game creating a positive impression, and a certain amount of jank being expected and accepted in 2011
huh
man this isn't helping me choose lmao
it just doesnt bother me as much, what i do like about ds1 outweighs bed of chaos
as compared to my friction points with ds2 and ds3
so the bad thing about bed of chaos is just that it isn't fun right?
A lot of people don't enjoy it, correct
It has flaws from a game design perspective.
but it's not like super tedious?
That is part of its problem; either you can do it very quickly or you will be there for hours
what does it depend on?
This is hard to describe since youve managed to be unspoiled on it so far, but the game tries to become a timing rng platformer in a system not built for that
there isnt a lot fully within your control as a player in that boss fight, nor does it benefit from a lot of player choices youve made beforehand
it just exists, its rough, and you either do it or you dont
alright
and the other bad thing is the lava lake right?
is there anything else or is it just these two
honestly the lava itself isnt that bad unless you have sensitive eyes
You'll be better off getting opinions from someone who doesnt like ds1 as much as me, honestly
I mean so far from what i've seen ds 1 seems incredibly fun
i recognize that i have a lot of rose-tinted thoughts about the game
if multiplayer matters to you and youre buying it on pc, they also still have infrequent but also active online elements
ye I'd be buying on pc
although someone here said something about playing ds 1 offline
like many online games some people like to be jerks and can try to ruin your game with hacks and such
It does exist etc etc but anecdotally ive been playing online ds1 for years with no issues
you should just play them
Is there like a mod for ds3 that replaces some of the sound bites
Because ds1 Lavaland felt bad for my eyes and ds3's mobs shriek in a way that hurts my ears
some bosses in bloodborne just st right up have tinnnius sounds as attacks
we're dark souls fans of course we don't actually play the games
you think every "ooohhh did you hear the plin plin plon in Soul of Cinder?!?" guy actually beat Gwyn
no shot
imo quite a few areas are kinda ehhhh, and assuming you aren't using a guide there is a bit of backtracking
I had a friend whos 100%'d the rest of the series who hates the lack of omni-directional roll* in ds1
its actually a dealbreaker
(* when locked on, I think? I forget if its omni when not)
I think the backtracking is a cool feature and not so much a hassle in ds1 personally, especially with how your shortcuts end up working
another one of my friends spent like actually 1-2 hours on Seath
and extremely, vehemently, disliked the runback
thought it was maybe one of the worst parts in the entire series, having played ER, BB, and DS3
blighttown depends on how many frames the game decides to give you
I liked most areas in ds1
it just usually wasn't hitting the highs of the best places elsewhere
(except Sen's Fortress. I love you silly scooby-doo snake dungeon)
Anor londo was breathtaking and cool and awe-inspiring too I guess 🙄
I hated Sen's Fortress but I later found out that I was trying to sprint an entire gauntlet of swinging blades without realizing that there was a gap where you can stop between them so I think that one's squarely on me
I am currently working my way through the archives and the crystal caves
Blighttown wasn't that bad for me but I was also prepared for it and my zweihander was one- or two-shotting most enemies I encountered at that point
upperblight townsucks
lower is fine provided you upgrade the fire and have the rusted ring
funny enough, i have never used the rusted ring
i just dont think its necessary
it helps! but the area is fine, its funny in how it punks on you
I take the backdoor to upper blighttown
I play meteoroid vanias so backtracking is fine
Is deprived a good choice for my first playthrough?
Unless you've played souls games before, no. Deprived is more of a challenge run option
I mean that counts yeah. But I wouldn't recommend deprived unless you want the game to be harder than it already is
If you want a challenge run, then by all means go for it
So the tradeoff with deprived is that you have neutral stats, but that's going to make you mediocre at everything to begin with and you start at the highest level, which makes leveling more expensive
In addition to starting with no armor and a kind of crappy weapon
But if you can deal with that, it's a flexible starting point if you don't already have a build in mind
darkness sounded interesting but I don't really know much about ds 1
dont chose deprived in ds1
its not like the others you start a like 8 or 11 instead of level 1
SL6 with 11 in all stats according to wikidot
warror or pryomancer are much better all arounders
Warrior is good if you're wanting to do melee because you start with 13 in both Str and Dex, which will give you a few options for weapons, yeah
and because ds1 is wierd
the level does not equal your total levesl
for example despite being 7 levels lower pyromancer has only 4 less stats
than deprived
so a pyromancer at the same level as deprived will have more stats
Huh
the classes in short are useful in way
warrior good all aorunder, thief dex/starts with theif key, wanderer dex+starts with decent light armor, sorcerer starts with extra magic casts, pyro the absoutely best class in the game due to starting at level 1 and starting with pyromancy which has no stat requirements besides attunement, cleric you get an extra heal.
hunter, bandit, knight and dperived i can't think of a valid usecase for
i guess bandit does start with a shield immune to poison thats about it
Should I take the master key btw
but by the time poison is common you can get that shield anyways cause its on the way
I heard you shouldn’t for the first playthrough
thats your choice
i don't because i found ways around it
but knight is just warroir with bad armor, bandit is kinda whatever, hunter you start with a bow but the first merchant sells the bow 10 min after the tutroial
Alright I’ll go warrior then
yeah warroir is good because decent all around stats and good armor for its weight, pyromancer while its gear isnt very good does start with pyromancy.
Pyromancy is very diffrent in ds1 attunement is your only stat requiurement so even if your int is say 0 and your faith is 0 you still do the same damage as if it was 99 and 99
all pyro damage is based on the level of your glove
thats why pyro is so goofy strong in ds1 because it requires almost no stat investment, is easy to get, and is just stright up overpowered
I basically always end up dipping into pyromancy for that reason, yeah
Easy to get, minimal stat investment, lets you chuck fireballs at things. Why not
1 is also the game its strongest in
2 has an issue where its just wierdly hard to find
Imo there's a use case for bandit if you know you're going pure strength to the point that you'd rather have the extra endurance and easier faith dip that the warrior's dexterity. But that's a pretty specific build plan
outside of exactly deprived for a challenge run, none of the ds1 classes will do you wrong
you get access to equipment and options at a fairly steady pace
I'd say nah
unless you already chose
I did it my first (mostly) blind playthrough of ds1 and accidentally skipped an entire level
I did but I just want to use it for like really bad places
master key is fixed places where it gets used
its not an actual master key
its more like some doors have it as a 2nd valid key
Master Key is the most useful gift IMO
but it's not essential
getting to Valley of Drakes early is the most useful part of it
not even for skipping Blighttown necessarily, but just so I can grab the Astora Straight Sword early and the Dragon Crest Shield
Would someone be able to help me with Consort Radahn? Or should I restrict asking just to the elden ring thread?
nvm someone random helped poke him to death
if you are here, Poking Machine
God fuckin bless you
just walk off and press an attack button
I feel like radahn would be chill
ya I just thought it was funny
also tbf
Starscourge Radahn is a little rotted in the brain by the time you show up
What about consort?
How would he react
I mean judging by how he acts probably just mog you
(or mohg you, depending)
Bro would go nonverbal
The only bad thing about his armor is that the tarnished looks too small imo
born to be a horsegirl forced to siege leyndell
gay + homophobic
actually
I think this bit has been asked to not be done here
so I will leave it at that
no worries
Asylum demon down
Let’s go
This feels better than the first Elden ring boss fight tbh
There’s a locked door near the boss entrance
I can’t open it though
Do I need to come back later or did I miss something?
If I'm thinking of the right one, that one's a shortcut from the upper level that only opens from one side
Stairs down from near where you got your estus
If you've already beaten the boss then there's no particular need to unlock it
Or do you mean the one on the upper level? I was thinking of the one in the courtyard near the bonfire
Vigor. If you don't know what to do, level vigor
More HP is never a bad thing in this game
Alright
Ye the upper level
That one I don't actually know what's behind it, but I don't think you can unlock it now
So yeah, come back later
And sorry, in DS1 it's Vitality, not Vigor 😛 still got a bit of Elden Ring on the brain
Why the skeletons so tanky?
Dw I found it either way
'cause you're not supposed to go to the graveyard immediately
though there are a few good weapons you can snag in there
but the graveyard and the crypt are meant to be more for later
go up the stairs from Firelink, that leads you to Burg
which is the "intended" first area
it's pretty good, yeah
Are nitos sword an artorias’ greatsword both strength weapons?
its gonna be quit a while before you get either
nito is one of the final 5 bosses
Awww
Bummer
I’ll look at the wiki to see if I find anything
Will levelling dex to 15 come to hurt me later on of would I have levelled dex regardless if build?
one tip i can say is to 10 faith or int can let you use heal or magic weapon repectfully
You're warrior, right? Nah, I don't think putting 2 points in Dex is likely to hurt your build
Are you looking at using the winged spear then?
both are good early optoins just to fill your first magic slot
Yeas
Alr will do that as well
Spears are fun in er so I thought I’d try them out here as well
heal can be gotten at the shrine if you join the covenant
and magic weapo can be bought early on under the shrine
I like it too
I've been playing through with the zweihander that you picked up
It swings slow but hits like a truck
zwei is a classic
though I'm personally not as big a fan of ultra weapons myself
my favorite DS1 weapon is probably the Black Knight Sword
Btw, regarding stat requirements: the Str requirements shown are for one-handing the weapon. Two-handing a weapon multiplies your effective Strength by 1.5
Same as in Elden Ring
Ik
But thx
For some reason people are saying the grave lords sword is their favourite starter weapon in the game
Are people trolling or
Is there some kind of way to get it early
You can grab it early if you speedrun through a high level area apparently
DS1 is pretty generous about letting you sequence break if you know what you're doing
Alright
Let’s see if I’ll find any fun weapons soon
Spear is cool btw love the range
Poke poke poke
I can definitely see why, the zwei is pretty unwieldy and apparently it's one of the faster UGS
Is the stuff that deals dark damage int or faith?
I've been appreciating how it forces me to learn patience and timing, though. High skill floor but for very good reward
if you know what you're doing, you can just blitz through crypt and get to the coffin early
since you get the sword just for joining the covenenant
if you mean the abyss sorceries, it looks like they're Int
I don't think dark actually is a separate damage type in 1 yet
they usually deal either physical or magic
Ah
Alr I think I’ll get strength to 15 next
I currently got 15 or 16 vitality
15 dex
10 int
13 strength
this conversation is starting to set off my restart-itis a little bit 😆
i will not abandon my current playthrough to mess around with new builds, i will not...
Well
Some black knight got pissed at me
I love backstabs
That’s what you get for not letting me rest at the bonfire
Where can I grab it again?
Also Taurus demon is fun
Got 2 shot but it’s fun
Alr
I’m at some dark place now
I hear undead
A lot of undead
Wait shit this is new londo
hes before the wooden bridge so you don't need to go into it
Alr
Like infront of the bridge or in the are before the bridge
Can’t find the merchant
Hmmm
Found rickard if that’s the guy
Sword n Board feels so good in ds1
cleared tomb of the giants today
pain in the butt, thought it would've been much worse without a helpful friend on stream with me
did you have a light source or were doing doing it the Fun Way
i did find the skull lamp, so i had that going for me
unfortunately this 1) obliged me to use my zweihander one-handed and 2) put me over my weight threshold so that I had to swap one of my rings out for Havel's
...but it could've been worse, all told
also found a helpful summon that assisted with Nito
the small bit before nito's room always tickles me
question: am i missing something about DS1 elemental upgrades? when i run weapon damage calcuations elemental upgrades always seem to come out comparable to or ahead of standard upgrades even on a full 40/40 quality build, and for way less stat investment
i know there's something about the way that split damage types interact with enemy defenses that makes people dislike it, but i'm not sure what the math is or whether it would change much regarding the above
the main thing you cannot easlily swap elemental upgrades
once you locked in your locked in unlike later games
the internet is telling me that DS1's damage calculations substantially reward beating the opponent's defense with your damage AR
so basically 500 physical damage is likely to perform better than 275 physical + 275 lightning because you'll be getting more damage out of beating your opponent's physical defense
the math is still a bit over my head but the principle makes sense at least
elemental damage was generally best in 2 IIRC
because it used only percentage reduction
so split damage was less punished than in some of the other games
As Geppetto’s Puppet, you encounter a mysterious artifact that transports you back to Krat in its final days of grandeur. In the shadow of an impending tragedy, your mission is to explore the past and uncover its dark secrets—haunted by surprises, loss, and vengeance. the Dark Souls 3 Seamless Co-op mod is now live
👀
I wonder how this embeds

This is kind of absurd, but convenient for any interested in the handful of mods that are specific to PtDE. Also, the remaster runs better, as you'd really hope it would, but there are some smaller artistic changes that might lead some to prefer the original. Be aware that online is disabled though.

New speedrun strat perhaps?
i could see that not having to dodge would speed up some kills
dragonrider is wierdly one of the few that isnt made faster by the bug
A simple ladder just broke Dark Souls speedruns and thanks to the new glitch, the Prepare to Die Edition's biggest speedrun barrier was finally broken. The runner QueueKyoo etched his name in history by becoming the first to beat the game in under 20 minutes within the Any% category.
This video details the new ladder warp glitch as well as the ...
Just beat Lies of P. What a neat game.
nice
I probably did enjoy it more than DS1 DS2, having replayed them recentlyish.
im excited about the dlc
nope
From what we played of the demo, that game seemed pretty good
I think it's the best souls on the market, better than anything from has done
Currently on ng+ run of it
Post cathedral, everything been pretty easy so far but I fear the last 3 in ng+
Well more like 2 and then there's that one between them
The first time i fought ||Nameless Puppet|| I beat him.
Then i got my ass kicked the next time on NG+ XD
But doing NG+ with the Scissors was great
For me it was maybe 5 tries for ||NP||
couple hours in, this game fucks
seems like it's gonna be a really short one
but it's like...
what if code vein was good
all of the clunky parts and unrefined experimental decisions code vein was full of
have been refocused and refined
it's got a really good feel to its combat, and very neat systems
not...very difficult
kind of a shame how easy it's been so far, outside of one miniboss
but i'm hoping that changes, and even with its rather low difficulty i'd still happily recommend the experience so far
Hell yeah I'm glad you're enjoying it!
If you haven't tried nine sols or lies of p yet, you should
haven't gotten around to nine sols, very much aware of how much people've loved it
just got uh
a million games on the docket
and other projects
played lies of p, quite liked it but ended up just wishing i was playing bloodborne
alas
no more bloodborne...
really hyped for nine sols though, seen a ton of people here and friends elsewhere gush about it
Does this game have a character creator or do you play as one character that switches hair styles?
Oh that's neat, I was a bit confused by the trailer was what
Lies of P was good, but what I'm really excited for it future work by the devs
most of its rough edges are explainable by being a first work, its a crazy solid foundation
Yeah whenever they do a new game it'll be crazy probably
It’s going to be ||Wizard of oz based FYI ||
I’m excited for Lies of P DLC
It’ll be interesting considering the timeline and amount of content they developed
Where is that from?
idk what hte image is but its a spiderman refrence crosed with darksouls 2
they got a couple other good ones
the corpse is known
are we the ||tin man||?
||It’s definitely possible the “P” is in fact the tin man lol ||
Also if you pay attention the fog walls are an ||emerald green glass curtain ||
that's not spiderman lmao that's atomic robo
oh wait no i'm absolutely wrong I was thinking it was doctor dinosaur
but no it's some totally other crazed dino scientist
I didn't know there were multiple haha
i forgot about atomic robo until you mentioned it
It’s sauron
Not named because of dinoSaurs, but after the character in the Lord Of The Rings. He canonically stole the name.
oh that'd be pretty sick!
I love talking about lies of P lore LOL
Nintendo basically said if Sony isn't doing blood-born 2 we will that’s crazy
The Duskbloods feels like an April Fool's Day prank that was released a day too late. I can barely believe that we're getting a Bloodborne 2-flavored game a sa Switch 2 exclusive.
its an 8 player pvpve game apprently
I'm going to fill Miyazaki's shoes with ants
A second fromsoft BR has hit the internet
I'm tentatively excited but like
I sure do hope this isn't the fromsoft brand now, yeah!
DINOSAUR SPELL?????
i wish more people would play some of the non fromsoft soulslikes
I will recommend Lies of P all day long. If someone doesn't mind going 2D, there are also a ton of games like GRIME, Salt & Sanctuary, Blasphemous 1 and 2, The Last Faith, Death's Gambit: Afterlife, Nine Sols, Ender Lilies, and Ender Magnolia.
yeah ive played a few of those
Doesn't bother me at all. I went into the Night Reign network test a little skeptical and came out a total believer. A single player experience will always be my first choice, but hearing that Duskbloods is more or less going to be Bloodborne's Night Reign isn't the kiss of death for my hype at all.
ive played p[lenty of non fromsoft soulslikes but a lot of people just ignore them
Right, I figured you were speaking from experience. I was speaking more to the general idea and anyone who might be interested after seeing your comment. I also look for any reason to recommend GRIME. GRIME 2 is one of my most anticipated games of 2025 (allegedly).
I suspect it's suffering from feature creep and will slip into 2026 or '27.
Lies of P Overture, Elden Ring Night Reign, and GRIME 2 are my trinity. Though GRIME 2 will probably slip. I think Crimson Desert or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will slide into the top three.
Ayyyyyyy
||Laxasia|| on first try in Lies of P NG+
Nice! She's a rough as hell fight
Lemme know how ||Nameless Puppet|| goes
Also one of my faovurite fights, i never felt bad retrying he (and the first itme i was there for like an hour), because it's such a fucking fun fight
that's just stylish top to bottom
There was a lof of tries to learn how that fight goes in regular NG
i love the phase change
and the cutscenes
And the mechanics, like perfect parry lets you boucne her lgihting bolts back
which is hilarious if you use the grindstone that just gives you perfect parries automatically for a while
pop it when she transofrms and fleis off
then block
STOP HITTING YOURSELF!
what do you thing I did
hahaha
NICE
You know another fight i actually love in there?
Swamp Beast
It's tricky, but i think tis' a really good fight, esp if oyu learn to embrace the elemetnal system in teh game
(Fire destroys it's first phase, lightning wrecks the second phase)
Hoenstly hte only boss fight i dont like is Scrapped Watchman tand that's on me
i'm just bad vs him XD
his delays throw me off
i think your the only person who likes swamp
also it seems wierd to like swamp but not scrapped
Swamp is a lot more readable
For me
Yes, pedople ahve lots of bad opinions =3
I, as an Undead Aquatic Avian, am safe from this
im saying scrapped and swamp part 2 are the same(but some changes in swamped) thats what makes it odd
They arent actually the same
Part 2 is pretty different in some key resepcts
Hence the "It's a lot more readable"
and i dont get punisehd byi t's werid windups as much
imo
(and I love the game, its fantastic)
Lies of P bosses have poor readability in general
lots of their moves blend together or have odd timings
Many of those feel intentional
mhm
Puppets especially
its hard because they're all glitching robots, right?
Ye
One thing I mildly dislike is some latter bosses' after stagger flail chains or such
Feels like a trap meant to get you once
i feel like most are pretty readable except for swamp, illusion, and parade 2, and final
for L i did notice something as a tell
how she carries the blade in part 1 determni swhich attack she does
I actually found true final super readable, which is how I one shot him
He's fast, but all his moves are very distinct
illusion?
ah
||first try same as arm arm||
but same as my first run, fumbled through ||NP||, absolute mess
staggered them while they were in the air, and it didn't made them go into staggered state
panicked as they continued as regular
and while panicking finished em with 3 throwable pots
oh pff, I just realized I forgot to switch the damage amulet after penultimate boss
First Berserker Khazan is pretty fun very enjoyable

He has done a few interviews now in which he has mentioned being fascinated by the “battle royal” so in hindsight duskbloods makes sense. Even though I am not going to get a switch 2 for it I am just happy Formsoft is extremely financially stable enough to experiment.
Khazan berserker update game beaten, 8/10 very much enjoyed solid but simple. I think lies of P is the “better game” but Khazan has better level design and a better set of end game boss fights. It’ll be interesting to see if it gets DLC. I might not be one of them, but I can imagine some people being convinced to join Dungeon fighter online because of this game. If I was the devs I’d get started on A- a sequel B-some kinda soft reboot of dungeon fighter if possible. Considering it’s this companies first “souls like” it’s very impressive.
With no core evidence I had a theory that ||the primary blade phantom (they do appear to be a hive mind both in gameplay and speaking) that joins with Khazan appears to be a former emperor of Pell Loss, judging by some side quests and comments. ||
Iron Pineapple doing valorous work in the soulslike mines
Speaking of souls like code vein ? Good or bad ?
It's pretty decent
it's...
there are a lot of places where the story is almost good
and where you can see what they were doing with the game mechanics
but both fall flat a lot of the time
i really liked the story,id say the 3 things i did dislike was the first two bosses after the tutoail boss are way harder than they should be, the catherdreal, and that theres a thing where if your too high level you get skill exp cut
maybe less the story i liked but the charcters
the core mechanics can be awkward, and a lot of the areas and bosses just don't quite have the spark of A Good Soulslike
i liked the characters but was not impressed by what was done with them
i think the first two non tutroial bosses need to have their status effects removed
i think for an actual game experience, I'd recommend AI Limit (which has just come out) as like
in the same space of weeb soulslike
with similar mechanics and expectations
but done way better
ive beaten codevien and played the demo of ai limit, and i think code vien felt better to me
but there's a lot of "but what if it was good!!!!" in code vein for me
but i think they are very simlar
if you like soulslikes you should just get both
lies of p, grime, salt and sancuary, codevien, ai lmit. nioh 1 and2, surge 1 and 2 all good soulslieks not made by fromsoft
mmmm
despite its aesthetics, influences, and expressed desires, i don't think i would actually call salt and sanctuary fully a soulslike
i think it's a fantastic game
but i also think that there's too much pure metroidvania in it to recommend as "a soulslike" on "the soulslike list"
i'd just wholeheartedly recommend it as a game anyway, to people who enjoy MV exploration & mapping and soulslike bosses
well
genre fusion bosses
I think it's close enough to a Soulslike to recommend it with caveats
but yeah like most 2d soulslikes it ends up having a number of metroidvania elements
i think salt and scoanry is close as physcially possible to get as a metroidvanida as a soulslike
i don't think its possible to be closer
i would honestly characterize it the other way around
"as close to a soulslike as a metroidvania can possibly get"
because imo it's more the latter than the former
Combat fun
Not a fan of female characters clothes though but that’s more a personal matter
Quick question
I’ve been breezing through salt and sanctuary
Is that bc I’m using spells?
I killed the dragon super fast
The lightning just destroys everything infront of me
dragon id say is very build based
Easily killed knight as well
yeha sodden is pretty easy
i feel like its when you get to the casatle stuff ramps up
post castle is what i mean
all thoough magic will be really good in the red cage boss specific
but overall im not to sure how powerful magic is on a full run
i do know magic resist comes along later more commonly
Aight
but just you haveing a good ranged option is really good up to the castle since a lot of is melee and the ranged that is there is usally bows and arrows or weak magic enemies
but as trips get longer you burn more stamina etc
wait which version are you playing
orginal or the rebalanced once
i think magic usage got reduced in the rebalance
Magic is nerfed a little in Enhanced combat in S&S and it's still very good
i thought it got buffed
Most enemies are weak to either lightning or fire and there's good options for both for single target and AoE
i do think magic is good, but i can't remember how well it turns in the later parts
Wands got like a 10% damage nerf, staffs got buffed, overall stamina cost got buffed IIRC
Wands
- Adjusted significantly upwards to be ~90% of a staff.
- Antler Baton now has Fast Hitter (Magic)
- Cocoon Battledore now has Fast Hitter (Magic)
Staves
- Saira's Staff now has HP Leech (magic)
- Purgatory Scepter’s Damage increased.
- Purgatory Scepter now has Mana Eater, spells cast cost extra.```
I remembered the patch notes wrong, yeah Magic is having a good day
I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING
yeah so the magic covenant
is the worst covenant in the game to reach
Patch notes for the S&S Enhanced Combat are in this G doc if you don't want to look at the in-game change log

Yeah they have neat scythes and armor
I heard their spells are cool as well
spell builds are very easy once you get going, yeah
I just bought wildfire it was called I think
lightning barrage just murders everything
I like the staves because you can get sick parries

i did play the demo and yeah i consider it a soulslike
omg yoo
Yes I played the demo it was pretty cool interesting if simple story and cool art style
bro has havel's ring to roll that fast while fat
alright so I played the demo through the first boss and then a little further
I liked the character animation...?
The combat system could be very cool and fun if it worked
Oh do tell
It has a system where you have to dodge/parry while inputting the direction an attack is coming from
But the directions are either way too rigid or don’t account for your character’s relative position/orientation or something
Because that shit AIN’T work
surge 2 has a simlar parry system but it def works there
It also has like
4 different colors of attack that all require their own separate response
And when the game said “okay this is a blue attack” in a tutorial pop-up mid boss fight, I was kinda ticked off
yoooo
thats a new decal on the floor there - it doesn't look like anything in base ER
missing the tree-parts of the normal Erdtree sigil, still more circular and twisty than the fundementalist one
it also looks like theres 4-5 rings in the middle there?
definitely not the usual shape
looks like the erdtree seal maybe
it looks close to it, but the rings are much larger
yeah
more like a standard celtic cross
her ult is also a Triquetra
which you see in celtic inspired stuff all over
the design of the Elden Ring itself even has one in the center, and actually with a better view of her ult-
its got some
elements also present in the Elden Ring
wonder if shes, idk, back-accessing Rune Magic through blood sacrifice
the line through the bottom is the really suspicious part for me, its one of the core parts of the ring, though the breaking away upward-curves are there too
nothing to build off here I'm just 👁️ on it for later
hmm, looking at the ER depictions next to each the big thing that stands out is this missing the... spine? The part of Marika's* rune that spears through the whole thing
which is on the 'normal' one, the farum one, present or implied in the spell sigils (with Erdtree worship having that thicker trunk)
the Erdtree door, the gate of divinity, most Enir Illm architecture in general tbh (Their curtains especially)
weird
idk if it means anything
Johnny Nightreigns sword even makes the shape in the title art
posed right next to da real thang
He kinda looks like artorias
If I was to do a blind play through of Dark Souls 3 and the DLC about how long would that take?
uhhh
depends
how meticulous do you play?
basegame with like
solid exploratory instinct but not scouring every corner is probably going to net you 40-50 hours
the pair of dlc will double that
assuming totally blind
(well, double is a bit of an exaggeration)
(it might just be +20-30)
full scraping the map for everything will probably go 100-120 instead
booking it for big setpieces and obvious gubbins, maybe like 30 total with dlc
lotta stuff
lots of it's out of the way
Around 100 hours for all of it is a decent guess I think
I'm terrible at finding secrets, don't mind the plot, and probably would be building STR for a big axe or ultra great sword so I wouldn't need to chase down spells, so that might cut down on the exploring
probably a while
Is there a way to force DS3 into offline mode besides running in Steam offline mode because if I recall correctly it's still the wild west with hackers online?
I think running in offline is still the method but you only need to get that first login without internet
it has a built in offline mode
everything from ds3 on ward you can just turn offline in settings
That's simple enough yeah; the only other question before I fire it up is whether or not armor actually matters beyond fashion souls
it does, but not that much
the order of effectiveness is
DS1>ds2>eldenring>ds3
ds3 armor matters a lot but mainly in a very stupid way
that if your not wearing armor you take more damage than if you wore armor that had 0 stats on it
each slot you don't have an armor piece in you take extra x% of damage
it does really feel like armor has gotten progressively less effective
though I guess ER pulled back a little on that
I always notice a difference when im wearing bad armor for sure
i'd slot bloodborne between ER and 3 here, as well
not because bloodborne armor really uh
does anything physically
but because it has a surprisingly large influence on your status conditions
which is a lot more than what ds3 makes you care about
different armor's frenzy, poison, & beasthood values can vary a lot
bloodboone feels a bit more balanced somehow despite the armor wierdness
i think its maybe levels up add more defense than in 3?
dunno, but i wouldn't be shocked to hear
thats wild
thats actually pretty sick
ds2 w/ seamless co-op actually seems like a neat way to tackle that game
i fucking adore this game
i'm so going to be co-opping with a friend once it's in a stable state
Crabs have become a fairly popular enemy in the Souls series, starting with their debut in Dark Souls III, but it seems we missed out on getting a whole other giant crustacean just a few years prior.
Song used: Outset Island - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker OST
omg the jingling on that big gun from the chains the sound design is so nice
i read the title as cloven ant and was confused af until the name popped up again
Dark Souls 3 blind run trip report:
rolled warrior, found a marker that said to turn back, did not turn back, got flattened by a big ice lizard, repeated twice, got a phone call, vowed revenge for another day
This run might take a while
ice or crystal lizard
Ice crystals? It would do a breath that would leave crystals behind
yep its a souped up crystal lizard
git gud don't worry, there's nothing you need to worry about overmuch there
if this is the starting area dont worry too much about it
you can come back later once you're more geared up or more comfortable with the mechanics
just make a note of it for later crystal lizarding
2 handing the axe worked good to chunk it yeah, I'm still in the flopping around like a shrimp part of adjusting to the controls (like LB being block and B being roll kinda muscle memory) so it shouldn't be too bad

nvm its Goated we're so back
cute detail is how many of its spells and moves repeat ||three times, twice|| given the ||madness and 2+3 finger thing||
idk if it precisely belongs here but I think the game is similar enough; Jedi Survivor has been so good that it's the first game I've been willing to deal with genuinely terrible optimization for lmao
Like objectively, from a technical standpoint, the optimization is just fuckin bad lol
The game is so fun and has the peak Jedi fantasy that I don't really care lmao
Survivor has very terrible performance yes
it used to be even worse at release if you can believe it
wild
Oh thank God I figured out the main big problem
DLSS was set all the way to ultra quality lmao
Absolutely the fuck not this like a six year old computer
XD
yeah once you get it going its nice, and i really enjoy the series
i think the cast is really nice and it retains a good scope that reminds me of the EU books
Also the fashion is on point
The fashion game is good
I have a jedi cowboy thing going on with the wander jacket, frontier pants, and cal with the bun and full goatee and mustache
and of course blaster stance
I'm always glad when they allow for the fact this series was created in the 70s, the retrofuturist clunk, the mustaches
more characters need stupid ponchos
Jedi Survivor officially unequivocally slaps
And makes me not hate the High Republic as the conceptual replacement for the Old Republic
high republic books have slapped so far, which helps
Somehow slaps even harder than yesterday
Just
God so close to perfect
if only EA wasn't the publisher then Respawn would've had more time to optimize probs XD
the only thing i can think about survivor i didn't like was the ending
||i really felt that making vader show up ruined the ending hard||
I just got past this section and, even as a person who thinks character spoilers ||Vader's|| overused in the modern era, I disagree
||Bro does just kind of straight up merk Cere. Not without effort, but not really with serious difficulty||
I do admittedly wish the new Jedi series took a page from the book of the last of the old Jedi series
and given you the option of choosing your character's appearance even if they all have the same name
Cal is
gender neutral enough for Star Wars imo
||Also one of my favorite things about this scene is it's young Vader. Vader who thinks he's hot shit and isn't fully compensating for his implants yet, who plays with his food a little bit, and it almost kills him. Then he locks in, kills her after their next extended exchange, and then staggers of without giving her the dignity of a word because he almost died due to foolishness and pride. Wonderful stuff.||
i just realized i think ive gotten fallen order and survivor mixed up
lmao
in that case I can agree ||the Vader appearance in Fallen Order is a bit meh||
yeah fallen order isthe one i beat not survivor
||In Survivor tho it's chef kiss||
i have finally beaten DS1 for the first time
people were not kidding about bed of chaos
What kinda build was you running?
2h Str zweihander baby
give me a big sword and let me go to town
honestly after playing so much of Elden Ring it feels kind of strange to have rolled credits on DS1 after just under 32 hours 😅
a really. Really unfortunate consequence of production
yeah... it's sad because i can see how, with a bit of tweaking and tuning, it could have been a decent boss encounter
unfortunately...
pretty much everything after ONS is downhill except maybe the achrives
The archives are fine yeah
Gwyn was a good fight, so at least the game ended on a high note
did you do the dlc?
not this runthrough, no
but i'm certainly intending to come back to the game at some point
So I am doing a broke sword run on ds3
Rn I am doing raw infusion since my level is very low
Is there any infusion that raises the AR to any significant levels,or should I just keep going with raw and use the saved up stats for vigor

Beast mode I'm afraid
||shes got that dawg in her||
so is this the parry class?
ya
the parry is an active ability
afaik
its ultimate is, uh, the beast mode
her(?) ultimate? I dont think they shared pronouns yet
I was wondering if they'd make her a main faith caster, but they don't really show her casting incantations while not in her ult
so now I'm wondering if Revenant, the doll girl, is gonna start with a seal
or be the main faith caster - or if there will be one in the roster
now I gotta learn how to parry because I want the lore

Might have to break my moratorium on buying games I'm not going to play immediately for this one
I played the demo for this btw
definitely has promise, but hard to say more from just the demo for now
one interesting thing is that it seems there is no respawns in this?
lies of p is amazing
So I have heard!
I've disallowed myself from buying new games unless I know for sure that I'm going to play them in the near future, but I might make an exception here bc I know I'm going to want to play Lies of P at some point

Anyone done the Nioh 3 Alpha Demo yet? I've yet to get to it and was wondering if I was th eonly one interested in Nioh 3 in this server.
Dropped the same day as the State of Play
its not on pc it seems
I mainly wonder where in the timeline it falls in relation to the gap between the spoilers for Nioh and Nioh 2 ||time skip in Nioh 2 and the arrival of William in Nioh||
Yeah no, PS5 exclusive
Just like the previous two, though I'd be surprised if it never came to PC

Playing the Nioh 3 Alpha Demo
I am... annoyed
I can't access High or Low stance (might be a story locked thing, I dunno) and the way the Samurai Ninja split works means you're forced to swap between them to counter certain attacks and the ninja has Ninutsu instead of the stances
Feels like a misstep
The stances were part of the game identity up to now
Plus being forced to have these two different styles which play quite differently doesn't give me hopes for how fun it'll be in the full game
But of course, subject to change
And I just learned I only have one weapon slot in Samurai and Ninja mode respectively
Also annoying but with the two mods I can see why
And each mod has their own gear, that also makes sense
But, as said before, subject to change
Though there is only so much they can change this far in without needing further resources, and we all know how big games companies feel about that
Oh fuck, I just realized what the two separate gear sets means
You have to have two builds and make and update them simultaneously
Otherwise you're just wasting half of your character
Jeezus fuck
With how the gear worked in the previous games that sounds like a nightmare of keeping track of both sets of armor
I gotta finish me Nioh 2
You should, it's real good
And the DLC lets you make a funny joke about the story twists
Yeah I got to the first stage after the tutorial, got smote by the big guy, found out "I should just walk away," then decided to come back when I was less tired and oops it's been a year and a half and at least I'm more awake now to finish it
