Amd, thanks. They're all based on mine + friends FFXIV characters. well. I asked all those people to pick a mini for their character but I'm the only one actually playing a blue cat

Played infinity yesterday
V white banner
My morlock sāchā picked up a flamethrower right as she was being creeped up on by a fire team it was very clutch haha
As I understand infinity is pretty good at crazy clutch moments.
Still wonder how much sooner I'd have played more if my first intro game 15byears ago didn't have a sniper start the game in a high tower without enough sight blocking terrain
I mean. I had that sniper. But a t0 win was a little silly.
Yeah it can be like that 😭
N5 is pretty nice though, lots of access to vision control across factions and fire teams dont give tower snipers +3 to hit and sixth sense
I've been on a tear painting, 3 models in as many days. I'm playing QK in the duos tournament at Adepticon so Ive got about 4 weeks to finish this army.
Im still not great at listbuilding for them and 200 point list building is quite difficult.
Just not quite enough points to get 3 things, and it doesn't feel right to just have 2 things. Things being game plans/properly supported order using pieces in this case.
That said my duos partner is playing vanilla PanO and we realized together we can run 4 TR bots and 2 helots
Qk 🥰
I love your yuan yuan
I guess maybe you could look like you have three plans and the enemy doesnt know which two are real
That's true. Im not used to having holomask around.
Burkut is a super efficient piece that Ive always enjoyed using in rtf
Also I could just do cheaper plans. There is lots of good ~25 point medium infantry in QK.
So many!
Though there's so much power in the iguana or zeybek that it's hard to not want to bring one or the other at least
druze hackers are great for x visor pitchers, duoable
Haha true
Iguana is really fun with laxmee
I picked up a zeybeck but Ive yet to actually use it
Which profiles do you like? Ive kind of overlooked them as at first glance they seemed to be a bit overpriced due to their keyword soup, but I haven't played one.
Panzerfaust or light rocket
I used the go pod a ton in Bakunin, so I'm excited to try a tankier less bullshit vehicle.
I just really like the mim and nwi; engineer, vet, dcharges for classifieds; continuous immune is a significant chunk of hard aros, ap mine is nice for incidental opportunities
+B boarding shotguns are always really good.
I run baggage repeaters quite a lot so
Yeee
I think he has more competition in qk, to be fair
Though usually better on a drop troop or camo guy, still they absolutely bonk things if you get even to the 0 range band.
Odalisques look pretty cute now but I havent played since the update haha
Really curious to try the Korsan parachutist DZ. They're like minimum viable product for that role. Im used to dukash, Spector, or the rasyat which are all significantly more expensive
That marksmanship viral mmr seems like a lot of fun
Korsan are great! I like contender in a ghulam team as an aro, but obviously dz parachutist is awesome
Spoilt for choice in qk honestly
Contenders are so good these days. They're pretty underrated since they were terrible in N4.
What game is this?
Infinity
Yep, Infinity! The first two are Brawlers and the last is a Yuan Yuan.
well then.
fair enough.
wasn't quite expecting to jump to rank 1

Interesting!
It took a lot, but here is a first draft of a primer for Obskura cleareance, a skirmish game of occult warfare. Feedback is always welcome.

-# Obskura cleareance – primer alpha version
Today I finished a first complete draft of the primer for Obskura cleareance. It’s complete in the sense that it offers a full game experience, from Squad creation to a fully playable mission…
In Trench Crusade news, the proposed changes to Iron Sultanate have the playerbase hooting and hollering
“Everything is expensive now but very good”
oh?
Alaybozan has the shotgun tag and more ammo options so its not awful, halberd-gun got insanely buffed to have +1 injury dice, Assault, Block, and got Shield Combo, at the cost of being Heavy
Flame Cannon got Assault so melee bulls are so much better, Bulls are a mite more expensive but have an extra action on charge to knock enemies down for free, as well as innate helmet for shrapnel protection
Lions of Jabir can get Cleave 2 on their claws for an upgrade, the Yüzbaşı has innate Strong and the Janissary Veteran option is swapped over to the new Janissary ability, which doubles the instrument bonus (and Janissaries can also carry the regimental soup spoon, which counts as an instrument but is hands-free)
Alchemists can get a kit for healing Taqwin creations, IS gets access to gas grenades and a new Alchemical Fire upgrade which bypasses fire immunity, and Corrosive Ammunition, which is a limited ammo type similar to alchemical ammunition that adds Armour-Piercing
All in all, though the sub-factions are left a bit out in the cold (except for Alchemists), this fixes a lot of problems people have had with IS
stumbled across malediction, anyone know much about it?
they sell standees with cardboard cutouts if you don't want to get the full minis which I will admit intrigues me
Some of my locals played it for a minute after getting it last year at ukge
It was apparently good ^^ the models are really nice
It’s an interesting hybrid of LCG and minis game.
I played a game at my local shop and enjoyed it, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the stl only model option
I think you can order full models from them now, they have a free print and cut out demo as well, will try to try that out with my brother
the factions are pretty blatantly the mtg colors, although there's no green
whats that other cardboard standee game? It was factions that really read as warcraft and was a hex grid without any rng
right, legacy's allure
The enhancement card stuff is coool
Do we have the rulebook yet?
alas
_> hmm
Classic CB.
More dorf
Uhhh
So
Winged
I'm regularly poking them about it
And they've suddenly become a bit cagey
Which...
Likely means there's planned release date that they'd like to tell me, but aren't allowed to just yet
Yessss
It's an interesting design space they've opened up
mayhaps... adepticon?
I assume therell at least have to be a rules update for the new concept even if its pretty self explanatory
I'm hoping
It sorta makes sense to delay the 2.0 version of the rules until the last of the factions for wave 1 is released
Itd be a reason
It's literally the only reason I can think of besides the classic "we're gonna work on it some more to make sure it's perfect"
Hopefully getting me some archers thursdayy
Hell yeah
Gonna try stringing their bows
Oof :((
Yeah!
And the big ol' ITS pack has my beloved Hsien in it...
I found the haytham a bit underwhelming but then I realised its just cause the zeybek was so good and I still think its the second coolest flyer at least hehe
Seems like the pilot is the same between them
Also I like crazy koala key chain
I'm a big fan of the Haytham, definitely top 3 flyer design for me
It looks like it would swing its tail around its centre of mass and zip around
Oh!
And the very first ever sculpted thunderbolt goes to KCF
Indeeed
I'll definitely be buying two of this pack, it's pretty common for us to see 2x thunderbolt fennecs in local Kestrel lists and I wanna run max AVA drummers at some point >:3
Welp
There's the flamethrower one
I appreciate the flash pulse just kinda welded to the end of it
Trifire thunderbolt is neat. Thunderbolts are horrific aro weapons in general too. Hate them so much
I dont think any of my factions have it on anything other than tr bot haha
What do you think about the ISS flyer till
My warcor was complaining about it and tbf he was comparing it to the nextwave one haha
Oh I think it's actually pretty good design wise
I rate it higher than the Firebat, Go-Pod, and Skyhound
Oh wait
Unless you mean the rules
Cause uhh
In that case..
While being the cheapest flyer, it's also the worst one
I did mean rules haha
It's just not a Skyhound
Which
Admittedly
Is definitely a bit over-optimized
But you can't scoff at the funny +1SD flash pulse and pitchers literally anywhere you want
Yeah I really like the +1 Sd
And flash pulse and AK are non lethal but stops that go through immune
Mhm mhm
I do kinda wish the nonlethal one had a riotstopper or something but oh well
That would be nice
That seems to be more something for the factions that are better off financially 😅
We struggle in YJ
Like
This guy
Makes me so very sad
Because he looks so cool
But
Profile
Poopoo garbage..
And then you look over at Adil for literally the same price and realize what having nice things is like
But I won't bring more energy to that here than I need to
I have an entire YJ chat where we lament the state of Cranes monthly
Yeah for suree
Well we'll see I guess
Ok uh
Recently learned abt the firelock shit. Any good less chuddy wargames that scratch a similar itch?
hrngrngrnh don't knwo of any :(
if I'm getting the vibe right, fulda rift maybe?
ummm
It is the year 1969. In the West, there is chaos. The Oval Office lies empty; President Nixon’s ascension through the Atlantean Gate to escape peace talks with Vietnam has left no clear successor. Uncontrollable Intelligence services squabble over control of a divided country. The streets are ...
peep this
The vibe is mostly “cold war limited information game”
it's very wip and currently kinda dormant but riposte fucks and fulda rift fucks
ah not much hidden info though
I like icebreaker (#2 fan) but it doesn’t have enough hidden info for me
Hell yeah
Yeah that's the thing
I know what Felicity means when she finds fire lock cool
You have so many decoys on the field
yeah absolutely fair
You're playing this wild cat and mouse thing
My two big projects (Riflewitch and Barrage/Heaven War) both focus on decision making based off public info
So I’ll need to start from scratch
Gonna move to #game-design-discussion
Yeah, Infinity is likely the biggest hidden information wargame in terms of popularity.
unfortunately it is about as far from Cold War you can go without reaching dinosaur era
And I already own it and have nobody to play with
Curse of Wyoming
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) And I already own it and have nobody to play with
also does firelock have cold war werewolves :(
Yah
sadface cause I'm really proud of my own version of that idea haha
I’d love to hear it
uh its like a metaphor for people who go to war and thrive and then never want to not be doing war so they become mercenaries
like the SAS guy
Ohhh I see
but they're also kinda 40k orky and do dumb soldiers of fortune vibe questionably sensible fighting stuff
and then thematically I based them on landsknecht because the origin for my idea was just the pun Lycansknecht
anddd I did some drawings I wanna find
thank youu
It's neat to see a lot more Cold War inspired stuff coming up. I guess we're about as far from the Cold War now as we were from WWII when a lot of their Weird War II type stuff started coming out.
one of the things I like about fulda rift and ww3 stuff is there's a lot of cool and dumb and scary stuff that never got used irl and historicals made me sad
not that there wasn't any hot conflicts in the cold war ofc
Im also vaguely working on a thing (mostly as an RPG campaign but also as skirmish rules), taking Twilight: 2000 and putting it in a blender with Arknights and Metal Gear/Ace Combat style super weapons projects and real-feeling notrealworlds.
...I really need to get back into working on my Fulda Rift stuff.
I was doing up Fulda Rift Australia.
and it's really cool!
ADF
Carrying the best equipment that the US didn’t want and with a fervent desire to be anywhere else, the Australian army’s morale isn’t doing great. On the plus side, they’ve got a million M113 turret variants to test and experience with the fuzzy wuzzy angels back in Kokoda has given them a lot of institutional expertise in jungle fighting. Now if only they could find a Jungle over here in Europe.
ANZAC Spirit
Borne upon a spectral horse, the ANZAC Spirit calls again for the country to bleed in the name of Conquest. In its presence, soldiers get a dreamy smile and talk about heroism, duty and the immortality of legend. The ANZAC spirit never speaks of mud and blood and tears; of watching comrades and friends die screaming for a medic that will be too late.
Test Cricketeer
The height of Australian sporting achievement, test cricketers are considered gods among men down under. Much like gods, they spend most of their time partying, starting stupid fights and abusing bystanders caught in the wake of their messy scandals. This prestige buys them a level of leeway with conscription, many of them finding themselves in leadership positions as it’s the way they’re most likely to avoid getting shot. Despite that, most find it impossible to avoid showboating and demonstrating that you can bowl a sticky grenade into the treads of most tanks if you put the spin on it just right.
Rifle Group
Entirely sick of dying for another country’s wars and with conscription incredibly unpopular, Australian infantry morale is in the toilet. Having served during the Malayan Emergency in such notable roles as ‘Jungle Warfare’, ‘Counter-Terror Actions’ and ‘Forcing suspected communists into concentration camps’, the average Digger doesn’t have a high view on the righteousness of any war he’s dragged into by another country. On the plus side however, while the L1A1 is semi-automatic, it packs a lot more punch than the plastic toys the yanks have.
It's fun to be just a bit of a 'locally salty asshole' when writing up Fulda Rift stuff.
When The Other Side first launched, it was built to do something different for the Wyrd community. It asked players to think on a different scale with larger battles, formation-based combat, and striking centerpiece models. We did not always support it as well as we should have. Production challenges, timing issues, and the realities of the last ...
that's the malifaux larger scale wargame?
Uhhh fuzzy wuzzy as a term has some complex origins
That might be worth thinking about
It's tricky as 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' has derogatory origins but...it's also the official name of PNG's national holiday celebtrating them/the name of the medal they received. 3rd of November is Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels Day in PNG.
So I'm in a bit of an odd state where 'I'd prefer to use the term that PNG uses to refer to that PNG group' but also 'Yeah but it's also got it's origin in a derogatory term'
Yeah it's........tricky, tricky is the right word
As long as you're making a conscious, informed choice I think you're good
Yeah. It's a complex term and I'm not 100% happy with it but...I also feel like the white guy going 'I can't call this group the thing their own government calls them' would be making a judgement call I'm not qualified to make.
if that remotely makes sense?
Yeah no that totally tracks
I just saw it and was like 'I wonder...'
Also I was cackling during Test Cricketer btw
Luckily 'tension around things being racist as fuck' is a bit of a theme with Fulda Rift Australia. XD
Gamma Surveyor
Union - Australia (Free World Forces)
One of the big problems that the Mining Industry often has is infestations. You want to set yourself up a mine or you want to do a nuclear test and the local area is ‘Inhabited’ or ‘Indigenous Heritage’, what do you do? Well, it would be expensive and slow to go through the courts, so you’ve got to get creative and call in the Surveyors. People are much more willing to give up their land once you’ve poisoned the groundwater for generations and their crops are developing strange growths!
Things we actually did to aboriginal australian land
Y e p that is some premium dark comedy
All the Aussie Radiation weapons are named after Nuclear Tests we did on aboriginal sites. I am not subtle.
Kinda needed to be stated as all the existing gas effects in the game are stuff like tear gas or CIA halucinogens.
It's fun writing stuff up because the 60s is just this time of complete military nonsense in what a lot of countries were trying in real life, let alone a weird game.
Like Australia tried mounting a minigun on their APCs.
The reason why not turned out to be 'you can't aim this thing worth a damn on a tank'. XD
The field report from vietnam was basicly 'we're more scared of this than the enemy, please stop'
Other Real Cold War Things: One of our transports could only fire left.
hey! we still use the M163 in the US
6 x 6 International F1 Truck
With the fleet of M113s owned by Australia mostly in workshops to see how many more types of turrets the engineers can attach, transporting troops falls heavily to medium trucks. Rugged and durable, they bring all you’d want in a transport. It holds things and it moves. Grumbling drivers demanding the addition of ‘not die’ have also resulted in the average F1 getting a mount for an M60 welded to the passenger side door, allowing them to live out their WWI fighter pilot dreams of circling people counterclockwise because you’ve only got a gun on the left side.
I noticed the milion m113 turret variant ref also
international harvester mentioned 🗣️🗣️🗣️
This also lets me legitimately list 'L1A1 Bitch' as a special weapon option becuase...again, that's the real name for it. A field mod soldiers made for the L1A1 that made it full auto and tended to dislocate your own shoulder.
The cold war is silly and very little of this is even stuff I had to invent
Though I think I'm most pleased with what I wrote for the SASR.
SASR Sabre Patrol
ADF - Australia (FWF)
Australia's foremost special forces, the Special Air Services test carefully for moral fibre, intelligence and decency. If a candidate shows any of the three, they are immediately rejected. Specialists in wetwork (murder), wetwork (swimming) and wetwork (Getting pissed), the SASR are feared by anyone with common sense and most without. In contrast with most infantry wanting to do their job and get out, the SASR relish this work and keep ‘kill boards’ as part of a competition of which of them can destroy the most human lives.
SASR Captain
ADF - Australia (FWF)
To rise in the ranks of the SASR requires a level of rat-bastard cunning that eludes many violent thugs, the ability to not only commit the most heinous of offenses without blinking but to have the knowledge to know how to conceal it from journalists. There is not a single SASR officer who doesn’t know where he’s going when he dies, it’s just a matter of how many screaming souls he can send to herald his arrival.
This is straight fire and you are a comedic genius
I would gleefully read this 'voice' all day
The Captain is fun as he's one of the 'weird' models. In that he goes from 'normal horrible war criminal' of the SASR to 'This guy is a Slasher Villain'
He's got a big jump pack-style move he can do when someone has paniced or run away
As it is a Weird Cold War game. Some of the things get a bit weirder than reality was, by a small amount.
I do wish I had worked more on my France stuff for Fulda Rift but also motivation is hard when the community is real quiet RN
My laptop dying like completely killed my productivity 😅
Looking for ideas for faction design
I have two factions for my game rn
I have a close range armored faction and I have a stealthy magic-heavy faction
But I’m trying to fit in a third, and am not sure what role they can fill
What's the game about?
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Space Mongols
Hit and fade sorta deal
Speed is good
Recursion (like necromancers + zombies, or engineers + drones) can be fun
Highly synergy focused factions where they have relatively static positioning as a result
Cold War spec ops but with magic
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) What's the game about?
Speed is good yeah
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Yeah all the above are good
Maybe a paratrooper/dynamic entry based faction
Has exclusive access to portal magic or something
Ooh yeah
They have the option to enter the field late and out of their deployment zone, but with a “parachute” counter that stops them from acting the next turn
And they’re at high elevation so can be fired at by any unit
Entering "forward deployed" but with some scatter seems rather appropriate for paratroopers, deploying during active combat seems risky for "normal" paratroops, but could be something magic could help with?
I'm late, but one I like adding is a "work together" synergy faction.
Ex: One I'm working on right now is vehicles that can move when an infantry unit activates next to them, and carry them along before they hop off to do the rest of their turn.
Given there's magic, one way to do this is just doing undead (little dudes make corpse piles that can be eaten up to buff bigger units or something idk), but you can also go the disciplined military route and have guys that are really focused on having different officers around them for buffs
Like all these suggestions yeah
Part of me wants to be silly and give them like
A jeep
Jeeps/technical type things are spec opsy
Hmmm
Jeep (Speed) plus some sort of synergy mechanic… yesss
Oh yeah uh
Looking for testers for this game again since my usual ones are busy when I’m not and vice versa

Any chance anyone knows of a 15mm M50 Ontos STL? I’ve always kinda loved that stupid thing, but there aren’t many models of it
I should say preferably freely available but I know how that can be a crapshoot
Hello,
The files are available for strictly personal and exclusive use: no commercial use or sharing with others is allowed, thank you.
The model includes both standard and pre-supported parts. It's provided in 28mm (1:56e) but it can be easily adapted to your scale :- to 10mm : x35%- to 15mm : x56%- to 20mm : x78%- to 25mm : x64%
The files will...

Ontos, officially the Rifle, Multiple 106 mm, Self-propelled, M50, is an American light armored tracked anti-tank vehicle developed in the 1950s.
It mounted six 106 mm manually loaded M40 recoilless rifles as its main armament, which could be fired in rapid succession against single targets to increase the probability of a kill. Although the act...
this one's free but scaling's up to you
Kinda weird question
I’ve finished up one project and am in the heavy testing phase of another, so now I feel like making a game for me specifically
So uh
How would you go about translating shonen or dark three seinen style fights into wargame form?
shonen is power rangers style right?
That’s tokusatsu
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) shonen is power rangers style right?
Shonen is dragon ball, one piece, Naruto
well if we are talking one piece
give characters a set of powers that dont grant active abilities, but heavily shape the playstyle
That's a really tough one. Lends itself a little more to RPGs.
maybe smth that has characters frequntly cause terrain damage in the course of their attacks, so you can track their power
Physical location doesn't matter too much for shonen fights, so I think you make a board with zones instead of traditional measure+move or grid.
Id probably make it more about some type of resource exchange mechanic. Some number of tokens that get shifted between attacking, defending, and special powers, that get removed from pool and set aside when you take damage.
And have triggers that bring them back into the pool representing powering up at plot appropriate moments (teammate going down, reaching critical health, etc) maybe dependent on the character.
For the big powers, transformations, domain expansion etc, make them take a whole turn to activate but they're uninterruptible (normally at least). Basically putting a brief pause on the fight where opponent gets a turn in exchange to take a breather, reposition, and recover before the big power shakes things up.
Just spitballing a bit, it's an interesting problem to solve.
Might be worth looking at star wars shatterpoint/marvel crisis protocol(?)
It has an interesting fight system
just finished a demo game of malediction, fun and very much a game of mtg but with miniatures instead of creatures. I was thundersteps and my brother was Vonrendal, not red versus not black. My guys were very fast and aggressive and grabed one objective (complete with gaining a magic item) and forced him to contest the one closer to him. End score was 26/20. It's very rocket tag-y, even tanky units can go down in a single activation to an unique unit with buffs. My brother found the starter decks to be a big unbalanced though, part of the rules is that you discard a card to take the initiative and highest goes first, but his deck was almost all small cheap cards while mine had a strong mix (although all my medium cost elite cards were discarded instead of used) so I was able to take and hold the intiative for the whole game
I like these solutions mhm
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Just spitballing a bit, it's an interesting problem to solve.
Shonen style fights are hard since they’re very flashy and mobile while tabletop games are inherently grounded, as in on the ground. Not to mention how important body blocking and tar pits are
Body blocking? Tar pits?
firstly i would start by breaking down what exactly u mean by that
what are the qualities of the shonen fight scene that ur tryna turn into an interactive experience
Hm
I guess there’s a few angles that appeal to me
There’s obviously the “technique discovery” that’s prevalent in like
HxH
as in discovering a secret technique in the middle of a fight?
But the real part I want is the uh
I can’t think of the word but I guess the fight that displays this best is Gojo vs Rope Guy
Impact? Velocity?
And I feel these almost run counter to each other?
Like technique discovery shonens usually feel static, abilities are more likely to be trap-like or defensive
ud definitely want environmental breakables & constant forced movement then
in which case yea marvel crisis protocol is a good shout for the former at least
see id lose the grid itself
namely bc wargames dont even have grids normally lol
I just want it for terrain abstraction
Ehhhh
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) namely bc wargames dont even have grids normally lol
we are #1 grid minis game supporter
well the other thing is that by using grids u make movement more precise
Mhm
which is imo the opposite for velocity
Yeah I think it’d hurt the feel a chunk
But I do think it lets me do stuff like fights spanning city blocks much more effectively
It’s sleepy time in America but will continue this convo tomorrow
i think if ur going that big, id just do zones
with binary relational positioning (ie close/far) for ppl in the same zones
Tar pits are units extremely hard to kill for their cost, whether that be cheap fodder or elites, who serve to bog down and draw enemy fire or engage important targets while the others can perform objectives more freely. Body blocking and screening are placing things in a way that prevents enemies from moving properly
either that or abstract inch/cm-measurement to equal to like, city blocks
Crisis protocol has systems for this
this might actually get u the bounding movement of shonen fights
Need to finish my mcp minis
Maybe an upgrade system? You can bring a small pool of upgrades and give some of them to units as the game progresses
It exists and is called Unmatched. 😛
(seriously though my two recommendations for a starting point for a "battle of legends" style game would be Unmatched and Phantom Dust)
Technique discovery says deck of cards to me
Almost like deck building on the fly or something 🤔
yea my thinking was like a randomizer for getting powers mid-fight
mb specified per faction/unit category
ideally allowing for thematic coherence for the sort of techniques a unit could potentially unlock
See my game gunmetal sonata
I have that game yeah I don’t think it fits the concept well unfortunately

youtube is trying to tell me something
I would say this was a resounding success
Good work!!
Anyone going to Adepticon next week? Anything folks are specifically excited for there?
I am!
Mostly I'm just excited to meet up with out of town friends see lots of people I met last year, but I am always excited to see whats new in the vendor area.
Vendor wise mostly interested in the StarCraft game if archon has a presence. I also saw the Polyversal people have a few new games in the event lineup.
Events wise Im trying the jets expansion for Blood Red Skies one day and someone homebrew modern skirmish a different day.
And the big thing is the 2v2 infinity tournament. Skipping the satellite this year - I play a lot of competitive events and I wanted to get more out of the con in general.
@modern snow will be holding it down at the BSS booth but several of us are bringing mobile arms stuff for evening open play games, in addition to other things. Im bringing some 15mm to test a skirmish conversion of Twilight:2000 4e and probably some spaceships for silent death.
If you pay for my leave and the plane tickets, sure
maaaaaaaaan that'd be the dream
Planning on it. Mobile Arms is probably the only game I will put on the table around my running Shatterpoint.
Biggest
of my life
If I wasnt already here I wouldn't either.
Yeah I don't want to visit America and I live in it.
🫂
If anyone wants a game of Mobile Arms one of the evenings feel free to reach out.
had a friend who was in ny and loving it; then 2024 happened and they wanted to leave as soon as uni was over
are there any 1/35th wargames out there?
Battleready, Zone Alfa, Inquisitor...
First time I've heard zona Alfa listed as 1/35 but it totally works.
... i admit it's weasle words
is Z.A for 1/35? ...no.
because it has no size as long as it's consistent
I think that's gonna be the case for a bunch yeah
I don't know any games in that scale but a lot or even most wargames are scale agnostic
Look at the cool thing @modern snow is bringing to Adepticon
:
Obligatory A Billion Suns namedrop
Yeah I’m thinking like
Is there anything tailored to that scale moreso
There’s a pretty small selection of 54mm skirmish games out there, but despite its popularity as a scale I cannot name a single 1:35 game of any kind
battleready and Inquisitor specifically i think
yeah there's not a lot
Pick up MAC Attack here: https://bastionlandpress.com/products/mac-attack

Support the stream at www.patreon.com/bastionland
I feel like there's a cowboy game in 54mm but I couldn't tell you what.
Inquisitor is the only one I know for sure.
What scale would the wack ass Shadowrun Action Figure clix game count as?
How tall are the minis?
They’re action figures? Like 7-8 inches tall.
Should scale out to about 1:10, based on that size.
Holy heck I forgot about that
You were probably correct to.
never forget
much to my chagrin
Do yall know of campaign systems with random event tables?
No End in Sight has a whole campaign system made up of random events, though I’ve not tried it in practice
I’m working on a ~15mm scale game and want to include artillery as off-table assets, and I’m trying to figure out counter-battery fire. Any ideas or examples that do it well?
Fistful of Tows uses counter battery as one of the consequences of a bad call in roll
Alternatively if you're not considering like, other Artillery at the lines
you could make a firing off-table artillery piece targetable by anything else off table with the same caliber or more
Ok this is interesting
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Fistful of Tows uses counter battery as one of the consequences of a bad call in roll
Any got more examples?
t2k has lots of tables for what's happening
Whaddat
oh wait no that's more ttrpg scale
ffot is a good shout but i can't think of many good wargame campaign systems
some of the 40k crusade rulesets are neat
Dude i have no idea what those acronyms are
T2k - twilight 2000
Ffot - fistful of tows
-# in case you haven't already looked them up
Also I thiiiiiiink 5 parsecs from home uses a bunch of tables but I don't really know much about it
No end in sight has campaign random events
Do yall have any examples from more scifi/fantasy examples?
The infinity mercenaries community ruleset has random events between combats.
Also @modern snow 's WIP campaign system for Mobile Arms has something similar.
Do you have a link to these?
Oh yeah I dont think I messaged about it cause it left me wiped but I played bakunin at our spring event ^^ there was like 12 people even with a handful of no shows which is cool
I will say
Prepare for kinda terrible rulebook layout
I came like 9th. Lost to a tunguska who came like second, won against kestrel but it was a really new player, lost to hassassins 😅
Hell yeah
Our spring event was cancelled due to no attendance :(
Also doesn't help that there was a bigger one in Stratford literally the next day
We suspect that's where everyone went
But
Hopefully next time!
Ah yeah
We're looking at attending whatever warcrow tournament happens nearby next, at least
Patiently awaiting mounted knights so we have to rework all our lists to fit them
MANDATORY HORSE
We have a warcrow next month. I need to catch up on the releases but my lgs hasnt been shelving them 😅
Just gonna order to collect next time I make it in but car is being shitty
Aw man yours too? :(((
Our LGS doesn't stock infinity anymore so we've gotta do special orders all the time
But warcrow pre orders go up every once in a while
Ooof
Ummm
But yeah I think I had a kinda bad list in retrospect and I had zero energy that whole week so getting through three games is a good enough result haha
And they were all fun
Next infinity event will be ukge which thankfully tickets finally went up forrr
Idk if missions are out
My FLGS carries a lot of CB and will ship. Feel free to bug me for info if your local places aren’t able to order it or anything.
Is there also a preview to this?
I think so? If not now than soon. I'll take a look or pester Corey about it this week when i see him. rn im sure he's getting packed up or wrappign up work to get ready for adepticon
not publicly but it's open to the Mobile Arms playtesting group (it's part of the upcoming revised core rulebook)
No Stars in Sight has a scifi-flavored version of No End in Sight’s scenario and campaign systems
ty all
I present to you two games
one more traditional and one way more abstract (keyboard wargame)
CB adepticon tomorrow.. we pray for updated warcrow PDF
We did also find out that's it's basically going to bring the game to a "1.75 edition"
More changes than we thought are taking place
I should try to catch it in person.
Ooh, you're gonna be there?
That'd be neat, you may be able to catch stuff we cannot
I don’t have plans yet but I’m at Adepticon so we’ll see what happens.
Cool pre-colored terrain for Infinity in the Adepticon setups.
Seeing the Microartstudio terrain in person is always weird
It's all scanned into TTS so to me it's digital terrain.
Agh..
I've always wanted to order some in but they don't ship here 😭
That's such a nice table..
It really is. I like it better than the Warsenal stuff.
I have the objective room for that set that I haven't built yet. Got it as my prize from the satellite last year
And also the goofier table:
Whacky water slide fun park 😌
Nope. Will have to look at it later
I love this
https://www.ignitioncoregames.com/ Oh so Relic Knights is back, I guess
Mecha miniatures games | Ignition Core Games provides anime influenced miniatures that are fully gameplay supported with free rules downloads and updates. Ember Obsidian Protocol is carried in our store now too.
Yeah has been for a bit.
It’s very much still Relic Knghts for good or for ill from what I could tell.
Ignition Core was supposed to have Ember:Obsidian Protocol but they didn’t get stock in time.
I only know about this because apparently they have a booth at Adepticon.
Yup! With their mecha chibi game and something called “Magical Girl Assault”
Yeah, they've toned it down some, but not much. From what I've seen they have two versions of some of the models now, one that's the anime pinup style and one that's going for more "cool" appeal instead
Chibi minis aren’t my thing
Welp
Warcrow rules update in April
They're uhh
Completely redoing the rulebook, and changing lots of rules and cards apparently
Here is your mandatory OSS rework art
It's uhhh..
I'm struggling to form an opinion..
Asuras are consistntly my favorite unit in the game but...I dunno. Not 100% sure on the art there. I like the implanted blade and the unit name on the side is just silly enough to move back into great but the bodysuit looks a bit undetailed save for the two lego brick tits.
I feel like it needed at the very least more of a pattern on the bodysuit and either 'no armour at all' or 'actual armour'.
It's an awkward 'no armour but pauldrons' area right now
Which is the uncanny valley of armour
If I'm remotely coherant?
I was reading the pauldrons as big sleeves but looking closer they have hard edges which I don’t like
Well
I have more art for you.
One moment
wow that's uhhhh
Anyways
OSS rework and Corregidor rework
Yeah, right?
the tummy-lights is crazy
it's definitely not good
Yeah, I stand by'it either needs more or less armour'.
firmly Just Stab Me Now
I pray the model is good
Also it feels a bit too...lean.
The old Asura art wasn't super bulky but it felt less lean
oh that's loads better
that is a vaguely average-bodied woman yeag
The pauldrons were also not huge and looked just like 'normal parts of the bodysuit'
This is sorta the 'less armour' idea for an Asura imo. The new one adds just enough armour to make it clear it has no actual armour
Which is awkard
i also like the long hair as opposed to the fuckass bob
legendary glowdown
darkdown
To give the new one a hair of credit - I don't hate the idea of the mantis blade instead of a carried sword.
But that's then only change I'm a fan of
mantis blade is neat but they made the arms look so baaaad and they used to look good
I also think the 'making the frame a fair bit leaner' doesn't work super well for a mantis blade that big.
i think the everything else makes her look even smaller than w/o
We must pray that the model is good..
The rest of the OSS will probably be pretty solid, at least
She really does not need pauldrons that big though.. tis strange..
stupid oversized pauldrons that look bad? many such cases
I kind of like it. It keeps the skin tight plain suit vibe of the original but makes it less cheesecake.
The shoulders are a miss though
sorry did you say less cheesecake
the cone-boobs say otherwise
i rly dont know why thats such a common scifi lady armor motif
like i assume it started in wargames w/ 40k but whered 40k get it
she has individual boob cones yeah lmfao
The original had nipples sculpted on the bodysuit
It being distinct pieces means at least theyre not doing that.
okay that Is wild
lookin at the actual model, the white does make her look extremely naked
do infinity models come painted
Nope.
Nah, they're unassembled white metal
Now sometimes thermoplastic of one of two types for larger stuff
Are they still doing some siocast?
They haven't done any new ones recently I'm aware of but there's a lot of siocast releases that they haven't changed over to unicool.
In defense of their sio, they've gotten way better with the formula
Metal is still better but..
It's not as rough as it used to be
But anyways
Uhh
I think the new Asura is probably just a side grade to the old one. Unless the model is absolutely amazing.
I really like that she feels like she's grown with the timeline.
Went from the femme fatale type to a more refined older killer mercenary lady
New miranda is cool
New asura is…. Yeah…
I mean part of the whole point of the asura is that shes among the toughest units in the game but is just a cyborg person. Shes basically major kusanagi
Corregidor is super weird when crimson stone was only like two operations ago
Like I thought doing bakunin again would be weird but you could at least focus on riot grrls etc but yeah. CB is so inscrutable
See, I kinda feel like a really fun Asura Model that could be released as an alternate some time?
Give her only one arm and just this massive ragged chunk of her torso missing, showing off metal like she's the terminator.
So you've got her having just gotten fucking railgunned or something and still going
That would be awesome
I do always love a fucked up cyborg
Especially fucked up in the “oh, so that’s not like, skin, that’s just a skin-like layer over robo-gizmos and you don’t care you took a mag of 7.62 to the face” sense
I like the new riot grrl models, kinda expected a redesign but dont mind theyll fit the existing ones
I'm gonna go through the announcements and get some TLDRs together..
Mounted harvesters are coool
Knights are... Exactly what we thought they'd look like
Pierre looks like he's got a tinged up eye scar
Oh yeah kipleacht looks amazing
It's channels the rules of the thing much better than the WCA one imo
This has also been confirmation that we're probably gonna get sculpts for generic versions of the named characters too
Which is nice
Oh wild
Oh yeah like this generic gunnery corporal
Very interesting
Omg minigun dorf!!!
Okay repeating cannon but still
And straight up switch axe from monster hunter like fully
Yeah, the veteran has an axe that can turn into
Which the warriors, an entire unit, will also have
I.. do not know why the unrelenting are carrying their weapons like that
To attac
The unrelenting have switch axe (greatsword greataxe)
And the veteran/warriors have charge blade + its also a gun? (Greataxe/sword n shield but the sword is an axe here)
Yeah that's basically it
Really cool though haha
The unrelenting appear to have battering rams and axes and we're assuming the big trigger mechanism switches between the two
Or it's just.. there..
Someone else is speculating that pulling it triggers a rocket on the opposite end of the pole too..
Maybe!
Not that its conclusive but the switch axe in monhun has like vials to add blasts to its attacks
Which is another thing that you operate mechanisms on it to achieve
Possible source of inspiration
Given the other main dwarf weapon is literally a charge blade... This would not surprise us
18th
Ookay
Infinity TL;DR:
Hhuh..
That's.. soon..
May, rather than july
I might get a miranda 👀
I'm.. not.. introducing her to our meta in its current state would piss so many people off ;-;
She isssss
They'll probably tone her down in the rules update, tbf
Or well
That's the hope
A few of the syennan kinda also want that
Shews in particular are... Holding too many cards with being
Most of the new stuff is pretty solid though?
Mhm mhm
Those chunky guys are very very fun
Almost fun enough to make me want to play CA
Those T. rex looking things are neat
I think atomic mass games are doing shatterpoint and crisis protocol reveals later
Yup in about 3 hours from this post they have their roadmap
Also have a cool shatterpoint thing:
wonder what characters we'll, I'd love to get nico minoru or any of the runaways
so no new characters were revealed; apparently the showed off too much at previous events
Yeah nothing we haven’t been aware of for Shatterpoint
Expect some surprises though
Qui Gon was conspicuously absent
still surprising we haven't seen dr.doom and the fantastic four
I had the opportunity to learn about the much anticipated COMAO #wargame. The miniatures are beautiful when painted and the ability to fit aircraft with different load outs is great! But I think it misses the increased range/scale of modern air warfare. Good for commercial play.
**🔁 3 ❤️ 48 **
oh very neat.
Does anyone here play Heavy Gear?
A few of us do or at least have in the past.
Im sort of waiting on the next edition of blitz to give it another crack
I'm more familiar with the RPG
I really like the RPG, I think currently it also does the wargame better than the wargame for a few reasons.
Many certified Heavy Gear freaks in the space, we love to see it
I’m trying to figure out like
What it’s deal is from a gameplay perspective
I have blitz but I struggle to get feel
At least without playing it which is out of reach for now
It kind of feels like Infinity light? That's not really accurate at all but the way reactions work gives it some of that vibe.
Nono, it does have those vibes
Ok that’s good cause we like infinity
Yeah like it’s by no means a 1:1 fit but out of all the stuff in the skirmish space rn I think « feels kinda like Infinity » is a good foot in the door for HG
It has just enough weird rules to draw the comparison
But it's like
Purely a gamefeel thing
Maybe it's the largely similar selection for equipment across factions?
Reactions being a huge part of the gameplay loop;
Managing activations especially with the save/pull mechanic coming in 4.0
Looser vibes based stuff like broadly similar model count usually?
Gamefeel is fairly similar overall kinda deal
Hard thing to quantify really
Does HG have a tts mod?
It does!
I.. think?
I remember seeing loads of videos of people using a fairly robust one
Yeah, it does.
Decent 2d standees for everything and a fair amount of boards.
Saved using the little tool the infinity mod uses to save tables.
Yeah HG has a pretty robust TTS scene, I see a lot of games coordinated through discord
2d standees are neat, malediction uses them
Just wish more people than me bought in in my area
It was in the swag bags for Adepticon and seems to be picking up steam.
Anyone in here deep into Trench Crusade?
in the middle of a campaign, but not the lore (as we lack the book and confidence)
I picked up a bit at Adepticon. Whats your read on campaign play so far?
it's.. fine?
My biggest gripe is that your patrons do nothing outside of giving you a special table gated by luck.
Beyond that, glorious deeds are just hard for some of the scenarios (but that's more of a problem with them, than the campaign itself) and reinforcing feels mandatory for the first few games if you lose literally anything important
we haven't gotten super far, but faction balance has begun to become a small concern as well (see: the sole undefeated player is also playing the most busted faction in the game)
Heretic Naval Raiders for our undefeated fellow (great guy btw, he's not even playing them at full power on purpose because it would genuinely be awful to be on the recieving end)
and... then it's a mix of literally everything else.
But there isn't any Prussia or Papal States, and only a single IS player.
What are you yourself playing with and how are you liking the faction?
I think it's like.. 3 Court, 2 Heretics, HNR, 2 NAs (one is me), one Eire, one Alba, and one Trench Pilgrims
NA is neat
but hooooo boy do you rely a lot on your opponent to not build the table like it's 40k
they're still a guns faction but like
1-8" range guns, not long range stuff
Yeah it's a game that wants a very different kind of terrain.
very CQB hyperlethal trading pieces faction
Yeah I snagged Prussians myself and they seem to lean into what NA does well.
mhm
luckily I come from infinity, so I... at least trust myself to build tables
I need to start making some trenches.
Prussians are considered one of the best NAs
cause
yeah
they just do what NA does best, but more
you'll have a good time, just prepare for OP allegations potentially
Yeah I hear grenades are getting hit at some point soon.
yeah...
to be clear
Not judging you or anything
I hope I didn't come off that way
Not at all.
I'm just hoping they take our feedback and don't make grenades horrible to use
Yeah it might just be one of those, change the prussian bonus situations instead of changing how the rest of the thing works.
there are some people in my group that want more ways for turns to just end abruptly and... I don't know how to articulate how unfun that all sounds properly
the risky action system is cool
but uhhh
we do not need more things to be that way
But it’s a choice to do it and not a weird consequence of doing a thing you need to.
Which is why it’s cool.
yea, at least that's there
How are Fireteams working for you? Any setups you like for it?
hmmm
Naval Raiders really shouldn't have a blanket +1 to dashes is their issue, btw
given this is a game about getting to objectives quickly, it uhhh
trivializes them.
fireteams are pretty easy to set up IMO
you need a model that can put lots of blood markers on something, and then one that can pop them all on one big hit
a shock with 2 swords and one with a greatsword, both with grenades, for example
they chuck grenades, then charge in and whack stuff hopefully enough that the greatsword guy can bloodbath
for a shooting fireteam, sniper priest and HMI with the shotgun/HFT is doing well for me
NA also likes to have their other guys as setup pieces for your fireteam activations. Like a yeoman with just a shotgun to get a marker on a guy you want to bloodbath later, etc etc
just to make it easier
What are you running on the priest?
oh, an automatic rifle. SMG works too. Anything that can make multiple attacks and let the HMI go after
I hear pistol builds are more than just a meme.
I could probably de-fireteam them and just run an HMG too, given the HFT ignores armour and I can just dump blood markers to hope for a 9...
oh, yeah
but you need specific campaign skills to get it to work
specifically strength of samson and surgical strike, iirc
since pistols can be used as melee weapons normally. if you want to do the dual auto pistols on him, you need gunslinger, too
most people go for a grenade and 2 pistols these days to my knowledge
Saw a lot of MG on him at Adepticon
That's one of the official sculpts, so people will run him that way to adhere to WYSIWYG
Given he doesn't have strong.. it's a bit harder to pilot
And fireteams obviously don't work out great
There does seem to be a lot of flexibility for how to build out a warband.
For NA, yeah
Some others have some super "auto-take" kinda pieces though
But
That's a given, they're also some of the coolest models
Artillery Witch was going to be in every warband that could take it anyway.
Deadly is a very powerful keyword
This is excellent thank you
they seem like a really good movement nonsense army
with the 1 cheeky flamethrower warrior
My friend that was into TC with me played a test game, my Court against his Naval Raiders, and he tabled me
My beloathed factions are NA in general (newb trap because I tabled my friends first attempt and turned him off Trench Crusade), St Methodius (two fucking anchorites) and Defenders of the Wall (no it's cool, I definitely wanted to play fucking minesweeper and lose a third of my units in the trench system I spent my terrain choices on)
Though I haven't really played against some factions; I haven't really seen Black Grail at all, and I haven't played against any Court lists
I've not actually looked at Defenders of the Wall, what do they get?
They can mine terrain ahead of time, elite Janissaries, and gun teams
That's pretty fun
I love setting up terrain that kills my units
It's my favorite
It's definitely never completely turned me off of playing against new people
But Defenders basically doubles down on the "we're the annoying shooty faction" thing that IS has going
They can get a giant cannon emplacement and an item that slows down chargers as well
Terrain setup is a big deal for TC
Cause uhh
Gun factions just get to play the game with board-wide fire superiority for the entire game if you're not careful
On the flipside, you still need to give them something to do, lest they have no way of dealing with a melee fighter until it arrives in their face
This was during the beta when terrain choice was alternating instead of... the way it is now, I don't know if they changed it
It's just one person setting up the entire board now iirc
Which..
I also don't like
Ah, I was wondering if they had fixed that
And IIRC it's still a rolloff to see who gets to choose the side they begin on
If it was "one person builds, other person chooses where" I feel it would be a lot more fair
Definitely, but I hate that a player has a 25% chance stack the field to their advantage now
Like, if my opponent is a fucking defenders list and gets that, I'm scooping immediately, fuck that
Its funny that mining terrain is an issue because I'm still out here running fidai (Help it hurts) and sappers are like, Just awful for em.
If every faction had a mine disarmer maybe I'd be less knee-jerky against Defenders
... I guess they're supposed to steer fodder into mines first, ig
Court: "Oh man, my expendable guys get Free Blood Counters? How terrible!"
Yeah Court would probably view that as a positive.
If only, in my experience they usually get outright kills
I need to catch up on the release rules
Mines just need to be different imo. Make them a marker you can place down, like that one scenario does.
I fuckin knew it
I remember reading up on the factions a while ago and thinking “damn these guys sound great”
“All these benefits and I just can’t take the funny wolf?”
Arent they also limited in taking Anointed?
That doesn't really hurt them as much as it should, because of unlimited SMGs on guys that can shoot them just as well as anointed
Probably just need a cost on the dash like Prussians.
Anointed are basically just heavy weapon carriers, and HNR only really need like.. 1-2 of those
Yeah, it really should be like that.
Prussia is kinda how I'd prefer their SMGs were balanced too,
Like..
Automatic weapons need a limit, or at least need to be expensive
And HNR get around both of those by having the cheapest ones in the game and being able to have as many as they'd like
Afaik, they're like
The only faction that does this, and it's earned them a lot of ire from the community on top of everything else
Theres was an old wargame about demons fighting over souls in hell I remember seeing but I can’t remember the name
I fobt remember seeing those other factions in the trench crusade book
Reign in Hell?
Regarding TC prussia, I would be mote concerned over their tank-splitters than their smgs. But that is just theorycrafting from my end.
It's not too bad, to be honest
Armor helps a lot against it, and it doesn't work on unarmored stuff iirc
They did have to stop Dragonslayer from working with it though
That combo was very very silly
Still
It is rather strong
In addition to the rather extreme trait, it still has +1 dice and is very cheap for what it does. I think the deadly weapons are still a bit more deadly, but I haven't run the math.
And prussia has rather few models that are good at ranged attacks.
Your leader and a singular Sniper Priest or MHI.
You're limited to 2 Tank-Splitters as well so you still have to be careful with them.
Thoughts on this as a starting warband? https://trench-companion.com/warband/detail/249674
Prussia is a Stoßtruppen of the Free State of Prussia warband played by Ecllection in Trench Crusade.
You can probably swap out some of the incendiary grenades for frag grenades to cover for guys without helmets that are immune to fire (which is going to be a surprisingly large amount of models, you'll find), but this looks totally useable otherwise
Helmets on shocks is probably unnecessary too, if you feel like you can put the savings towards something better
I assume it is for a good reason, but I am a still a bit sad that they don't allow one to one hand ranged weapons with strong.
Guy with loads of guns sounds cool on paper, dunno if it's something you'd actually want
We have someone seeing success with a machine gun + halberd gun Yuzbazi captain though
I was thinking more siege jezzail + shield. But mg+halberd gun looks a bit interesting.
Inflitrating annointed with flamethrower funny
Trueeee
Though...
I have something similar and it has.. dubious value..
Considering this is what my roster has for permanently dead campaign units
They may be dead, but as long as they did their part?
If the yeoman in front of you dies, pick up his flamethrower and continue on.
This is the way
Weirdly enough, these have been my distraction carnifexes
I still have like 3 in my list
They infiltrate and sit on an objective, occasionally popping out to light someone on fire
It works well
me & the boys abt to kick up the swing riots
Annointed with flamethrower inflitrating means my opponent has to answer an annointef
Immediately
Hahahaha
I can imagine, it would probably be pretty distracting for me too. I have seen people get plenty of distracted by machine guns. Though that isn't quite the same. 🙂
This is true
HFT good
what did you lose to build the list for trench crusade?
oh huh, didn't realize trech crusade shotguns were more irl shotguns, high accuracy low armor penetration
I will grumble that you still need to aim with a shotgun, they do have spread but it also is less than you might think, especially at close range
But that’s just me as a gun-knower doing grumbles
+1 accuracy in exchange for -1 for armor penetration is a better representation than the usual close range point blank weapon
Yeah it’s not terrible, especially for a quicker-moving tabletop game
I like how in No End in Sight they have range limits for SMGs and shotguns by having them only use Shock dice (the suppression mechanic) past a certain range
smgs are much more the irl close range weapon, low weight is more mobile and high rof and usually deployed in situations where you don't need the long range most firefights occur at
SMGs have a slightly longer effective range than shotguns but they’re about the same irl
And both have gone by the wayside now that body armor is a common thing (and people realized “hey wait what if we just make out rifles short”)
and nato (america) got off their ass about intermediate cartridges
This has me thinking of the broader thing in mini wargaming that doing range “realistically” either means doing very small scale, no actual upper limit on range and just bonuses for close-in, or you make everybody have half the velocity on their rounds lol
intermediate cartridges?
Trench companion, it's a webapp.
rifles used full power cartridges which sucked to use full auto and took up a lot of space, smgs used pistol cartridges which were nice to use but lacked power. some people had the bright idea to get something in between
Allows you to link your warband to a campaign too, which is pretty cool
and pretty much everyone agreed about that but when nato were first standardising on a cartridge, the us lobbied for it to be a full power one
Bullet lore :0
the rifle is the spear of modern warfare, practical and effective but media likes to diversify for visual and gameplay reasons
the thing I found with thinking about making a gun game is range has a big effect on power in a way most games don't really do
and armour effectiveness depends heavily on range
Popping off the helmets and downgrading grenades gets me another bolt-action Yeoman. So appreciate that callout.

You usually wanna keep the guys that are gonna be trading up cheap so you can buy them again, helps in the long run.
Totally valid to deck out your important stuff though, there's just.. less of those in NA
I think I just overestimated how dangerous Shrapnel would be.
It's pretty mean when NA wields it, tbf
They love any way of putting extra markers on stuff
Plus they've got all the pickelhaubes on the models.
Frag + charge + NA fireteam. It is mean, but mostly aginst more durable models.
Against cheap stuff shrapnel is only a minor advantage.
Looking for people willing to test balance for a gundam space combat game, please do 🔔 on this message if you’re interested
Is it specifically the Gundam ip or are you using that as a thematic reference
Thematic ref
It was created to replicate zeta and to a lesser extent WFM fights specifically
Psst, Mayflower (@tawny mountain), you have been pinged by @twin mountain.
gotcha then i'mi n
Sweet! Mind if we send a friend request?
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) gotcha then i'mi n
If you do mind we can coordinate a test here
Yeah that’s probably best
Basic premise of gameplay is that you play with small model counts on a relatively populated 2d board
Terrain represents asteroids, nebulous space, etc
Each mech has a skill level, which is Regular -> Veteran -> Ace
And there are also three phases: Engage, React, Battle
There are only two actions, being move and attack
All units can act in Engage and Battle, but regular units cannot act in React.
Similarly, there are restrictions on who can do what when. Everyone can move in a phase they can act in. Everyone can shoot in Battle, Veterans can shoot in React, and Aces can shoot whenever.
Phases The game has 3 phases: Engage, Reaction, and Battle. Any unit can act in the Engage or Battle phases, while only veteran and ace units can act in the Reaction phase. Veteran Units Unlike a regular unit, a veteran unit has access to actions within the Reaction phase. This means veteran unit...
And here is the doc
ooh o.o
\unproxying so you don’t get ghost pinged, but is still mayflower— wanted to know what platform you’d prefer
We are available for most of today and monday
Oh, Monday? Discord
It is but also grenades are a massive problem for the state of a lot of armory, take sapper shotgun, you are WAY better off with a few nades
Oh im way far behind
There is also something awkward about short ranged weapons that don't have assault. Though some are more than good enough to conpensate.
y'know
you'd think shotguns would have assault across the board, and the auto shotgun would have the automatic rule
but.. nar...
I assume they made that decision to not just create a better SMG, though
finished the board setup, will build a few more lists
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Ok sounds good!
@twin mountain just ping me when you’re available, or if something comes up. Excited to play w/ you!
\unlatch message
@twin mountain sorry if that did ping you, but I assume it didn’t since it isn’t blue so here is a ping like intended
ah thanks, yeah I'm around. that first one absolutely didn't ping me
well. let me rephrase
i'm not super free right this exact moment - in a few hours maybe?
I should be free in 20
I have a channel open here and also a tts server named space mech, password is cows
good playtest, good luck o7
Summary of feedback:
Winged, unlike my previous testers, figured out (very quickly) that the only phase that mattered was, interestingly, the battle phase. The ability to pass and do nothing (for the record, an intended and integral part of the experience in the past), has left an issue where a dispersed force of weaker units can wait till the battle phase and annihilate enemies at maximum range. This part isn’t intended!
So what have I learned? Nothing is sacred! The current pilot skill system has not resulted in a close dogfight, and while it seemed like it was working in the past, it was… too easy to break to keep. I’m not sure how to fix it, but I’m working on ideas
Thank you to winged for the playtest o7
happy to help, good luck o/
Not having read the rules the summary reads kinda like Winged went all Art of War on the wargame
Anyone got a TLDR on issues with the BLKOUT guy?
@modern snow just found them very grindsety in a way that gave them a bad impression iirc
Here
^
Ok I have opinions
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Anyone got a TLDR on issues with the BLKOUT guy?
Also as many people have pointed out their general extremely American military cultural vibes makes me really want to ask about their politics
I would be very unsurprised to learn they're maga
Yeah I thought I had heard through the grapevine that one of the owners was, and was tied up in some of that weird nu-TSR shit.
But I'm not finding good sources.
They have previously housed some rather far right individuals in their private patreon equivalent
And said program is its own issue
Oh thanks for the heads up Felicity
I wish they didn't suck, I find their game mechanically really cool and inspirational
They were removed eventually but only after a lot of asking
I may just steal their system one day and make my own game from it
They basically charged you a subscription fee for acsess to the supposedly living ruleset of killwager
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) And said program is its own issue
Then they cut it off
And they didn’t allow downloading of the rules
Thats extremely odd
As in, the killwager rules
Also their rulebook killed my printer so I have some subjective beef with them
Oh yeah the actual quality of the stuff you get in the core box is questionable
Besides the minis, which are good, although they are printed in multiple resins
Oh, yeah
BLKout sketched me out :(
Bleh :((
I admittedly didn't actually do any research, it was just pure vibes
Fwiw I do wanna point out that blkout has a faction of like. Purely female clones or something?
Like I find the game mechanically cool and brilliant and lore wise just very wtf
It's all lots of American action movie weirdness, one of the factions is aggressively bad guy Russia Mafia themed I dunno
Yeah it very much feels like it fails the vibe check in general, but I thought there was more going on there.
There does seem to be a kerfuffle around the original owner using a lot of AI art that they then ousted.
Big picture I think everyone should just be careful about investing in guys that write stuff like this: https://www.blkoutgame.com/products/manticor-borz-group-force
Their Bratva fireteams coordinate with Cyka shock troopers and insertion units that slip through debris and ruin like predators.
... Cyka shock troopers?
The Russian mafia (Russian: ру́сская ма́фия, romanized: russkaya mafiya [ˈruskəjə ˈmafʲɪjə] or росси́йская ма́фия, rossiyskaya mafiya [rɐˈsʲijskəjə ˈmafʲɪjə]), also known as bratva (братва́, bratva [brɐtˈva]; lit. 'brothers' clique'), is a collective of various organized crime-related ele...
Mat, matershchina, mat language (Russian: мат; матерщи́на / ма́терный язы́к, romanized: matershchina / materny yazyk) are the Russian terms for highly vulgar, obscene, or profane language in Russian and some other Slavic language communities. A person who uses mat profusely is called matershchinnik (матерщинн...
🙄
Not terribly interested myself, but wasn't sure how hard I needed to peel the one person I know who is interested off of it.
Instead I'll just continue to question his judgement about the game.
Yeah this is a wild one from the faux romanization « cyka » to the absurd misuse of thieves’ argot
Also consider: one of the factions being fully « Rhodesian/ex-SADF mercenaries in the ‘90s à la Executive Outcomes » coded
It's literally just, like, ra ra American stuff. I'm struggling to put my finger on it but basically there's two kinds of American military veteran designer and one kind is very thoughtful and makes litorral commander
And the other is like
The military version of j.k. rowling
Absolutely zero self reflection
And they write American military cho chang stuff
And that comes out as the bratva group with their cyka shock troopers are gonna kill everyone while power metal plays
Also the only good guys in Blkout are uh
Martians
And the bad guys are
But AMERICAN ones
[Reply to:](#1161730220164911187 message) Also the only good guys in Blkout are uh
Martians
And the bad guys are
For some reason
The UN has genetically engineered women super soldiers because I dunno. It's cool I guess
But it’s better America with no problems (it doesn’t elaborate on what their problems are)
And I can accept gonzo stupid genre stuff but they keep hyping up how cool and realistic and badass their setting is it's all just very call of duty in the worst way
Insert 'This is the future liberals want' meme here.
Maybe? Genuinely? Like they have all women genetically engineered super soldier teams and their AI units are called golems
I don't THINK they're trying to point at the jews
I think they're just trying to say cool words
But I really can't tell
Yeah, Golem is one of those things where it could be DA JEWS nonsense or it could just be 'I played enough D&D to rot my brain'. They're like Elves in that they are cultural but they've become a 'Fantasy Thing' so it's tricky.
Yeah exactly
I never really considered the naming on the golems
I know Israel is explicitly antagonistic in the docs
So antisemitism is possibly
Not that Israel isn’t irl.
There's a big reason why I sat down with one of the Jewish Co-writers of Liminal Space and went 'Hey, so is this handling of Jewish Cultural Stories in bad taste, with my going with this focus?' XD
I was trying to un-D&D brainrot myself
As it's so easy to use that sorta stuff
Yeah it's hard to say how much it's American veterans just thinking krav maga and mossad are cool
