just kinda looks like warhammer fantasy with infinity skirmish combat
which is neat but
idk
I kinda like that admitedly, especially with the cool look of yaldabroth
if wanna play warhammer i can play warhammer
tbh the first box looks like they remember warcraft 3 and went "oh yeah we can do that"
cmon, sell me cb
fuck
sculpts look good at least
you need more models for warhammer though
I backed the Kickstarter for warcrow forever ago, pretty hyped for it tbh
Scratches an itch for a skirmish game Warhammer doesn't give me
there's only so much you can do with "this game is warhammer but better"
but i guess im not a warhammer player with bux to burn so im not really paying cbs bills
I mean. It's not like there's a warhammer fantasy skirmish game lol
i just dont wanna play warhammer
oh right
but this isn't warhammer? I'm confused
idk if you don't want to play a fantasy game I don't think there's anything anyone can do to sell you on it
its not fantasy that's the problem its just the factions aren't very unique to me
that's it
Yeah I'm a little confused too. "Not a Warhammer player with Bux to burn. So I'm not really paying CBs bills"? I mean isn't half the point of skirmish games that they're cheaper than full wargames?
Or am I just misreading that statement
idk
trying to respond to a question days old while im sick is a bad move
im immediately misinterpreted so
bye
Finished by infinity escalation league 2-1-2. Definitely feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Have a tournament at the end of April and I'm starting to like my chances of at least leaving with a winning record.
I kinda miss when infinity tournaments happened in my area. I rarely did better than 1-2 back then considering I was fairly new. Had some wild moments happen tho like a Tunguska player shit down everything in my MO army but Joan or McMurder tear his way up the board just to lose a fist fight with a black friat
The group here seems really good. From what I understand there were a few players that were pretty toxic and that scared a lot of people off in late N3 early N4, but a few people have really made an effort to clean it up and make it a friendly community. Have a full 24 person tournament at the end of the month with at least 1/4 being new players.
That's awesome!
The pandemic killed my local group. Folks moved away and the guy who was the pillar of the local infinity community had to bow out for financial reasons. Scene just kinda dried out after that
gaslands is very good
there's a 3d printer here at my school that I've been meaning to print some lil guns out with
and then paint up the hotwheels
I was starting to build some cars for gaslands and then I get distracted by something I don't even remember what haha
played a couple games though and had a great time
bought some job lots on ebay which is kinda addictive haha
I adore gaslands. First ever kitbash was a gaslands car ❤️

new mecha game draft wheeeeeeee
This looks sick
My biggest worry is how well do the components hold up to use over time.
I need to remind my friends with kids that exists.
my local lgs had the boxes for some crisis protocol charactesr I like (Carnage and Magik) so I got them, not sure if I'll play the game though
It’s a decent game, but I find Shatterpoint refines the formula.
It has good TTS support too if you wanted to learn it.
I prefer Marvel to star wars personally
also, Malifaux is doing another global campaign, been a while since the last one
Exciting
Ive been thinking about starting malifaux for ages
Apex looks really cool and fun
Man I really love the "guy and their buddy" units
Hell yeah, Voronin and his dog et c
I’m not entirely clear on what this thing actually is but it’s a strong contender for Infinity’s Freakiest Lil Guy
it's funny
de mon
women,,,
human-sphere doesn't have a description for them yet
but the store page is basically like
The daemon is aleph
so I guess the idea is that like
it's some kind of toymaker bot designed to protect daemonists while also being like a represenation of the sinfulness of ai? idk
although the store page uses he/him for the daemonist
"Aleph bad"
Nomads proceed to create several other AI
I have the feeling it's specifically Aleph and not other AI
Like
"Grrr big administrative intelligence is evil"
tbf making a bot that fights is different from ai I think
in infinity
afaik there's only two ais that are of the type that observance hates which is aleph and the ei
or like fragments thereof
Like nobody would argue that a Mul is AI even though they have some level of autonomy
I love the creature, reminds me of the villain from kaiju no 8
daemonist is on my shortlist of pickups to finish my bakunin collection
Gravediggers looks cool.
I saw
Oh I see
They're cool enough models
They are!
I rather like them
I think they're gonna be really popular
I don't know
Nothing really speaks to me the way Infinity does
It doesn't feel very fresh to me and I don't know enough about the game itself yet to know if its worth it
I don't like being negative and I don't really intend to be
I'd prefer to be excited
I'm sure there might be more coming, so I'll hold back for now.
ftr i am always happier to see more games out there than not, i just wanna see them succeed
CB seem confident I suppose
It's probably just because you're subconsciously comparing everything to Warhammer tbh
Cause like...
Yeeaaahh all the factions are rough equivalents of the WHfantasy ones, but they made the fantasy wargame formula so it's kind of hard to not do that sometimes
But I do hope warcrow does well!
I really like what we've seen of warcrow gameplay, but I'm not sold on any of the factions either.
The models are good but they're not killing it like Infinity. The big strength of CBs models is having very realistic proportions which isn't common in fantasy, so I think they maybe should have gone for more models that look like traditional fantasy archetypes.
Id throw a lot of money at metal fantasy minis with good proportions even if I didn't like the game at all.
dammit beat me to it
🥷
I do mean this in a mean way but is there any way this is playable lol
(referring to the funko pop game)
The rules contain "microwave the funko pop" as the effect of a damage type
so
for a certain definition of "playable"
I feel like this approaches a kind of like
Someone at some point has to have made a wargame that is actually not possible to play in real life
Campaign For North Africa :p
Fun fact: this is what CB did before infinity
Apparently
Yeah, warcrow was originally a generic fantasy line
And before that they did 15mm historicals
Though neither were anywhere close to their current quality, they had that hand sculpted charm like a lot of Reaper stuff does.
The scions look really cool to me but the rest feel generic
I have the distinct feeling this initial line of warcrow stuff is like... supposed to be a bit less "out there" so that more people buy into it, I can only hope they have a lineup of more interesting designs on the horizon
I don't even play Warhammer but yes.
Actually a lot of it reminds me of earlier Warcraft.
Its probably fairer for me to say Warcrow just isn't aimed at me to be honest, and that's okay.
Maybe, there are so many wargames out there and usually you can only afford 1 or 2
Do you ever feel bad for all the wargames that just fade away
Like I have a copy of stargrave and I think the game is great but I havent seen anyone talk about it in about a year
Honestly we should probably chat about it here? We made that thread before this one existed.
all i know is it looks like fairy malifaux
and there's somehow more players for it than malifaux
Honestly not that off of a comparison in some ways.
It's combat resolution is way different though.
The fact that you draw and act out of the same deck makes for interesting choices.
And the bluff mechanic for spellcasting is very fun.
Sometimes I do but I don't know
like, some games are made and they're cool and I can pick them up any time
I feel sorrier sometimes for games like 40k or whatever that churn editions over and over
If the game is out there and you want to play you have to build the community.
Like I know places playing games that haven’t been available for decades because someone stans it that hard.
And that’s not an easy task by any means but someone is out there who will play that old game with you.
3d printing has helped a lot with that kind of thing too
I think you can actually find Battlefleet Gothic groups pretty consistently, or at least convince people.
I played in my first Infinity tournament today, took 2nd with 24 players!
Got to spend a good thirty minutes talking about Lancer with some folks too, so we might see some new faces one day.
anyone here into hex&counters?
I've played a few with my dad over the years, but not in a while.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBhJQaReuHg this is crazy cool and I'm primarily gonna talk about it in strategy club here #strategy-club message
We've wanted a cooperative large scale war game for ARMCO for AGES. I'm sick of waiting. So I started making one. Welcome to the Meta Campaign

absolutely. got my whole friend group into Wooden Ships & Iron Men (wargame from the... 70s?) because I really wanted to try it and there was an easy, convenient website for playing it
Oh how is that one? Ive been thinking of printing out the pieces for it
There was a PC game based on it ages ago. Maybe late 90s? It was super fun, but I was also 9 years old.
It's a classic though, worth reading through at least if you're interested in that type of wargame.
it’s very interesting. More fun with more people imo.
I enjoyed it because of some of the asymmetrical scenarios, and the fact that everyone’s turns are hidden and then take place at once.
im prob gonna make an infinity code one army to play on tts with a friend but i really wanna paint models finally, i've never done it beyond my gasland cars. finding moonstone inspired me really hard but i have to admit i have no idea how to paint in that watercolour style so maybe i just need to find a cheaper, smaller product to practice with?
i know infinity minis are pretty nice but that's also why i don't wanna start with them. detailed metal minis seem like a really bad starter kit
as much as i never think ill play warhammer i admit i think it'd be fun to paint some marines up
dya reckon i can buy some shitty old sprues off ebay or something? like, i'm not playing with them so i don't care if its official
You can find job lots of poorly-painted plastics on ebay for cheap; chuck ‘em in Simple Green for a weekend and scrub with a toothbrush under warm water, good as new
Simple and Green is the way that you're making me feel tonight cool I'll have a gander. idk if I've mentioned enough times I'm super new to the hobby.
marines are genuinely a great platform to get started on
its a good part of the reason why they are the starter set faction
big part of why primaris exist even
Infinity models are surprisingly easy for newer painters because they work really well with contrast/speed paints/Xpress color.
Reaper bones are pretty cheap if you want some stuff that would probably work for DND. If you buy a paint or something at a GW store they normally have some type of monthly free mini you could practice on.
Also re: infinity, metal models are way easier to strip if you're not happy with them than plastic.
I try not to buy GW tbf
If I did I'd just buy Votann models to paint like DRG dwarves
Looks like the Bones models have like three soldier looking guys for 9 bucks, which is a decent cheap way to get models to practice on.
if you're not happy with your infinity models painting you can always safely and happily dunk em in thinner
yeah that one's more i have never played a game and thus have no idea what i would want to invest in
the only infinity model i 100% would buy just to paint is Equipe Mirage-5
no question
hell yeah Margot and Duroc are the shit
They really put in work on the table, too
I prefer the old sculpts for those two, but there’s no denying their new minis are sharp af
I have been looking at Nomads (mostly Bakunin) and Ariadna a lot but can't really decide
I usually avoid meta but I figure I'm rubbish at the game so its not like it matters if I build Bakunin
Maybe Spiral but good luck finding those models
It’s me, John Ariadna
Spiral Corps should all still be in production? I thought that was the whole point, vice Tohaa
That’s fair
Nobody loves a bespoke faction mechanic that you only encounter once in a blue moon
I figure Nomads are a better starter. I heard Ariadna are a bit more annoying to learn as a beginner but idk
Well,
Nomads are a real swiss army faction; they have at least some access to every tool in the book.
Ariadna plays in a much narrower design space
I would not necessarily say Ariadna is harder to learn (you can effectively ignore hacking entirely at first), but you will have a skillset that does not map 1:1 to other factions (you’ll know the camo rules front to back right away, for example)
I'm just a bit stuck on a starting place
As cool as Observance are its my friend's likely pick and I'd rather not double up
also starting codeone so eh
same reason haqq isn't really on my menu atm, lots of haqq players i know
models also aren't quite as rad imo but yknow
The only place you'd really have trouble is if you start NA2 and that's not an option on CodeOne.
Spiral Corps are kind of hard to find but not impossible, and use enough normal Mercs they're easy to flesh out. Sounds like Tohaa/Spiral are getting fridged forever next edition though so I'd avoid them until we know if they're bringing them back in some way.
Id tell you to go Bakunin but I'm biased cause I'm a Bakunin player.
That said they get the most canon trans rep, the riot grrls fireteam with Fiddler and Avicenna in particular.
And I don't think Ariadna gets Fiddler at all
Can confirm, no Fiddler in vAri or any sectorial
That's because they're out of production (so your only option is scouring eBay but... Read above as to why that might not be such a great idea)
Lore wise Fiddler is from Ariadna but left to avoid discrimination, so that tracks.
A friendly reminder that meta barely matters in infinity, you can win with just about anything if you're good at the game.
Bakunin isn't a faction that will carry you either, so never feel bad about choosing them
Though I get why you'd want to avoid them if your friend is going for them. You can always go with a different faction. Sectorials only matter in N4 anyways.
@lean pilot I will say this, CodeOne never got an updated ruleset to reflect the pretty important change in the turn order that N4 got, so it might be best to start with N4 and use the CodeOne profiles of things (most of what CodeOne does is removing unit abilities anyways)
I agree, with that. I would say starting with N4 with a simplified set of units is probably the better way to go, having taught people both ways.
CodeOne removes two (three of you count smoke) relatively simple things that make it play out pretty differently and teach kind of bad habits if you're planning on going into N4.
I don't really know what rule updates occurred
Just that it made the game more complicated
What got added to n4 turn order?
Ive been out for a while
They changed up the timing for AROs iirc, that's the big one.
Now it's
- declare skill
- check for ARO
- resolve everything that's valid
For every skill
Oh no, if you're declaring two short skills then the first two parts get replaced with
- declare short skill
- declare AROs
- declare second short skill
- declare any NEW AROs that would have been impossible before that short skill
- resolve everything that's valid
Everything is resolved simultaneously though
It's..
Hard to explain tbh
For me, who didn't play before the rules change but learned about it afterward
Yeah i need to go play again and have my memory do something thats no longer legal
One notable thing that the changes made did is not let you declare skills like shoot then move if your target was out of LOF during the first short skill
`Skills can only be declared from a position that the Trooper has already been in or moved through during the current Order. Therefore the Active Trooper cannot declare a Skill from a position they have not reached yet.
Development team note: By adding this important box, our intention is to end all the annoying situations that have been generated with the modification of the Order Sequence, but keeping the flexibility when declaring skills. So, you will still be able to declare "Shoot" as the first half of the Order. However, if you really want to shoot a Trooper behind a wall, you must move first and then shoot.`
I'd touch on this page for further details
https://infinitythewiki.com/Trooper_Activation
Oh i never did that. Damn that would have been very funny
Used to be possible lmao
I have to say this is literally incomprehensible to me as a new player
It's not so bad, just think of it as
"I can do up to two things with each of my orders, and my opponent can react to them once per model"
That's how the game goes
Thank you warcor till

The three things C1 removes that I think make it kind of bad to learn first (in order of importance)
Loss of lieutenant
Smoke
Guts
C1 doesn't have irregulars, which is why I assume they don't have LoL, but I think it really changes the dynamic. You always want to take the best combat Lt you can for the extra order instead of it being a choice.
Oh yeah guts is a whole thing lmao
I mostly ignore it cause religious troops and such but.. if you're playing most factions, you're gonna have to deal with guts
I'd honestly put it in the first game you play, even if it is a bit weird
Because if you don't, well.. you're more liable to forget about it if it isn't introduced immediately
Guts is presented as a negative thing, but more often than not you want to fail.
You're sticking out an ARO, making them waste some orders, then if you survive you duck back into full cover and make them have to come get you
religious troop has entered the chat
Yes I main MO. Yes I forget to make guts rolls when I play my Corregidor and ForCo
I play Bakunin, so I feel you
every time i play riot grrls i'm like wait they don't have courage? or religious? they actually have to make this roll?
Yeah with the observance stuff bakunin has joined the ranks of "what's guts?" Alongside MO and Morats
Shame it's starting to overshadow the mad science side of bakunin
Because that's my jam! (I say as someone who played tohaa)
I didn't know about steel phalanx (no one plays them locally) but I do believe Ramah task force has a lot of courage and religious
SP is another big one
Hello folks, I've made another update to Night Sky Falling and am organizing a playtest on the 7th fleet server <t:1714930200:F>. I would appreciate anyone who came to try it out! https://docs.google.com/document/d/12krHisrMpFjUwFqqM5-fw1q1eQ8MeXpr2G8VLsbQS3U/edit?usp=sharing

ooh
It's 90% a spaceship wargame with a Blades in the Dark narrative element bolted to it.
Lego meets X-Wing in this brilliant, dog-fighting minis game. Snap Ship Tactics uses plastic blocks and ship pieces to provide a canvas to build your very own miniatures to set against friends or AI enemies on your tabletop. Fun, simple, and highly creative there are a ton of reasons to love it, so stick around to hear about why you should play ...
@native portal
I actually do know those cubes too
holy shit the nostalgia
if you do get this, I hope your sproglords like it!
Wait what
That game is super cool, mostly on the back of how dope the toys are. I got way too much of it.
I'm thinking about picking it up if I get renewed at my current school
It's like $120 bucks for enough stuff to 2v2
which aint bad
Anyone play Full Thrust? Fleet games came up and I guess I've signed up for a few games to try it out.
Seems pretty easy and super flexible which is exciting.
Thinking about trying to custom make some minis and stat em up.
I used to
Ive heard good rhinfs
cool, wyrd has cool stuff but I've just started collecting crisis protocols o I've already got a secondnary game
I find that I enjoy being able to focus on singular minis over army painting
Hey @lean pilot we remember you being interested in tohaa?
what the fuck
why
lmfao
yeah i was but its a bad idea cause its even more rules and also everyone hates them
Actual people that play the game aren't like that
Fwiw
idk everyone's said not to
And it's 1 entire rule that's unique to them iirc
Who's "everyone"?
I mean even here it was suggested as a bad move to start with
I mean.. they're definitely not a beginner faction, if that's what you mean
But you can start with them regardless
But outside of beginner friendliness whenever they come up I hear groans from long time players
Complaints about being broken and how they need to be removed
If they're getting removed I shouldn't really invest
Yeah no.. tohaa is rather balanced.
Canid I'm not sure who's telling you these things but they're very biased
Tohaa only sucks to deal with when you don't know how to play against them, and every other faction is also like that so... It's a redundant point
But I don't know what's actually going to happen to the faction itself either so.. maybe not
its just easier to go without playing them until you reach an organised event

I'm also very nervous about being seen certain ways coming into a hobby that, frankly, is traditionally very judgey and gatekeepy.
That's my honest answer.
This isn't Warhammer at least but still
That... Is very much a local community problem.
And not representative of the wider community
having to buy a whole faction in one fortnight is rough too
idk it seems to be everywhere I've tried to get into the hobby is all. Not everyone by anymeans.
My friends aren't gatekeepers, I've been asked to go to an intro by someone
I just worry
I don't wanna turn up into a hobby like hey guys I brought the faction everyone hates : )
just seems rude
So
its an inherently social game
As someone who did that
Like
Exactly
I brought SP to a new player event
Because it was me who was new
And uh.. really everyone just kinda got annoyed by me throwing smoke everywhere but that's it
Tohaa are awesome but nobody likes them so I don't want to be immediately seen as That Guy when I'm entirely new, I don't know things, I'm an idiot, I'm ||queer lol|| like yknow.
I don't wanna deal with it
No no I get it
ur valid
But also if I wanted to just roll over and do what everyone else wants I'd play 40k
and I'm not
You just can't let that thought pattern completely bar you from the hobby if you wanna engage with it, y'know
I don't want to fuck up my approach vector
I'd recommend getting that intro game in
I can be a goblin when I have a foundation
Ignore that my first ever wargame match I took deliberately silly units and won
Ignore that please
I honestly even feel weird about playing Nomads in case that's seen as a meta choice
I don't give a fuck about meta I wanna have fun, also I don't care because I'll just get good and beat you with the worst faction possible
Sure, but communally, which is the entire thing
I admit I'm scared off by all my past experiences
With infinity?
Yeaah that sounds about right
and even there I know its not like all players are dickheads or anything
but nobody calls them out really

even the indie wargame i was playing... frankly half the players were jackasses! one told me to kill myself on meeting me the first time!!
this was weeks ago!
Eugh
That's yucky, we're sorry to hear that
i hear my local infinity people are great but i don't know them
and afaik they're all mostly cis guys frankly
which is fine obviously but
yknow
Just an unfortunate side effect of wargaming as a hobby
i dont wanna be made to shut up if this happens again
It is mostly cis guys
because im forgettable and annoying and nobody cares cause im a hobby tourist cause i fuckin bought only £90 of models and spent weeks painting them
You should talk with them and get that intro game in before anything, tbh
i feel like if I put prep in before all this it shows I'm at least worth acknowledging
right
there is also just a limit to how much you can appease assholes unfortunately
again i might be conflating.
no game is better than bad to actively dangerous game etc
i kinda dont wanna play games with assholes in general but its the entire hobby
so what do
i like these games!
they're not easy to just pick up though
maybe they are if you have a lot of money and dedicate yourself to it
casual three-to-four digit sum hobby expenditure
So
At least for infinity
I can guarantee you that people will let you borrow models if you ask
Yeah I know
tbh I was just gonna TTS it for a while with a friend who's trying to learn
And it's proxy friendly anyways
I just want you to keep that in mind
infinity is also a game where the mechanics actively work worse if ppl are dicks
Mhm
cause theres a level of trust involved
You have to come to agreements on stuff like sight lines a lot
i just kinda dont wanna deal with it. "this hobby is where I come to not deal with real life stuff" but like actual
not the "and so i painted a panzerfaust division orc army which is apolitical" shit
Probably why the infinity playerbase is so chill, we're all used to being able to negotiate fairly
mm
I don't know
It's obvious I'm a bit scarred on all this
Hell that recent attempt already knocked me back off the hobby for a week or two but then I saw nice models and remembered what I wanted out of it
and this aint therapy
Unfortunately not
i'd feel better just playing with friends but idk that many people interested right now. especially with a new player. everyone's tournament or bust.
Infinity is very competitive yeah
sucks its the game I'm weirdly stuck on
well, i used to be stuck on malifaux but nobody plays it
I'll get in a TTS game with ya sometime. I assume you haven't played yet so I can teach you the basics
not an actual game no
I see I see
thank you btw
i know not everyone in the hobby and not even everyone in the worse spaces but its still been enough to personally knock me off every single time ive tried to enter
No problemo, the best I can do is to get you comfy with the game at the very least
im just really fucking worried now
getting exiled from the nerd communities definitely feels uniquely terrible tbh
having literal blue hair pronouns maybe doesn't help
Given the nomad players I know they'd just see that as a bonus lol. Idk how much my local group overlaps with the vibe of the wider infinity community but back when we were still actively playing we had a very queer friendly local community going. Helps that our warcor was a self identified raging liberal lol
a lot of infinity communities are probably more worried about chuds coming out of warhammer thinking other games aren't 'woke'
Yeah that's the bigger concern tbh. I kinda lucked out with a good 40k community. Response to femstodes was a mix of "cool" and extreme muscle women thirst
actual infinity players i have talked to so far are all great
i wanna emphasise that bit
i'm sure competitive atmosphere does sort of pressure cook certain feelings
Eh depends on the group, depends on the environment. Sure at a tournament there'll be a lot more talk over lists and stress over how to play shit but at the same time I'll still run the Joan bus despite knowing the high risk of pairing into Tunguska players running Mary
I know there's some tohaa hate out there but it feels like more of a mene than anything. I've gotten more shit for being a Pano player than when I bring out my tohaa. Part of it I suppose is the vibe of the group, there's two of us locally that have both Pano and tohaa as our go to factions and we do occasionally lean into the memes because we find it funny. But the group would never use the jokes or genuinely begrudge someone over faction or unit choice if it's something we're aware their self conscious over
Concur; “ugh pheroware” is 80% a joke and 20% “please explain once again this rule I barely ever encounter”
My initial and strongest reaction to Tohaa in the wild is respect for playing a faction even more out of production than mine
Yeah tohaa is just.. not something you see often
That's kinda one of the reasons some people think it's OP
Because they have no experience to play against it
The main reason I've seen people encourage others not to get into Tohaa is availability rather than gameplay.
Both models being hard to find and like "your faction probably won't get anything new ever" being an important caveat to share.
I've taught the game a few times. I'm not the best teacher but I'm also down to run a demo game on TTS and help anyone learn.
I'm lucky enough to have a great local scene, I'm a super visibly trans woman and I've been welcomed thoroughly by the group here which is 90%+ cis dudes. Like not just begrudgingly accepted, which is what I'm used to but people actively seek me out for games and stuff.
Pheroware is easy to explain as "oblivion, eclipse grenades and maybe worse trinity but no repeaters and no counter hacking"
I usually had to explain the pherobooster or symbiote stuff more
I'm gonna miss my msv2 viral sniper tricore if they don't survive into the next edition tho
So i've been sold on Warmachine
(Surrpsingly all it took was the Gravediggers new caster
with a rocket launcher
Is it still going? Had some rough years there
still alive somehow
They did a complete reboot
It's not a complete reboot.
But it's a new edition and many old models are out.
There's two game modes now Legacy and Prime
And it's basically Legends without being Legends.
She's Caine's daughter all grown up and ready to murder Cryxian abominations.
I have a joke that the new Gravedigger characters have been TF2
MKIV is fun and a good update on the game.
I'd still be playing it if my local community hadn't moved on.
15mm O8 order arrived 🔥
These sculpts are just Too Crisp, it’s unreasonable
Turns out trying to get an impromptu phone camera shot of unprimed 15mm metal infantry that does the sculpts justice is kinda tough,
I'm listening
She's a independent unit with a grenade launcher.
I can't unsee it now
Skorne, Everblight and Grimkin were cool, but the first and last are no longer there and new Everblight lacks the dark elves and a lot of their previous weirdness
Grymkin are still playable if you have the models. They have a Prime eligible army,
That’s almost the whole faction minus the piggybacks and the hollow men which have been on my painting table longer than this edition.
Old Witch 2/3 is still one of my favorite ever models.
Stella's even scottish
Well her second name is
All she needs is to lose an eye
Hahaha
Cyn is soldier
addie please sell me on this game
you can't post shit like this addie i'm begging you--
Oh, it's a you go I go game set in what originally was a submission for a new DnD setting, used to be it was a 1910's setting, and post the latest reboot, it's now in the 1940's asthetic wise.
Vibes wise, the Iron Kingdoms is magical technology the setting, and the game feels like it's built around a core of
Setting up for combo turns
the dice uses 2d6+- dice beat target number
so it's rather predictable with spikes
the images I posted are for the Gravediggers relaunch, a subfaction that used to be based on WW1 trench infnatry
but are now moving to
WW2 Paratroopers
Big thing tablewise is Warjacks, mechs controlled by warcasters on the field,
and the heavy weapons of most factions on the table.
The shift from 2e to 3e fortunately removed a lot of the macho broness in the writing
and rules description
as it should be
Also it's entirely based on 2.5d terrain and base size so mechanically, paper standees work perfectly fine
for this game
its free rules and i buy your minis or i buy your rules and the minis are system agnostic
double dipping? to the shredder
this is a hobby people are happy to invest money into if the product is good, i don't see why companies have to nickel and dime you on entry
gosh these designs are good though
I did not expect to want to pick up an elf faction
i do recall this game now i think
It was popular for a while when GW dropped the ball
I am aware that does not narrow it down
You have to stop doing this to me
I play for vibes and asthetic
Your aesthetic is very predicable :p
Shut up you're just calling me a furry with extra steps
You're not wrong but you don't have to say it out loud
Still, it looks nice. Maybe nice to grab a model
Oh and all the new models don't really need assembly
Just attach heads and arms
Because they do this weird 3d printing process
Well you just need a hobby drill then
We love pin vices
I do love a pin vice; however!
I also love modern superglue and modern CAD sculpts obviating the need to pin every single multipart metal model
It’s nice
Yeah i def prefer a well sliced (is that the right word? I know thats what 3d printing calls a similar process) model
But also its not like the need for a pin vice goes away. Still gotta drill barrel holes
Indispensable tool tbh.
I’m not sure if sliced is conventional but I am interested in the relationship between the sculptor’s art (as it were) and the production engineering side of things
(Me and addie are pals btw we can have a little banter as a treat also she deserves it lol)
"Keyed" may be closer? It might be slicing for how you make the divisions, not sure, but the keying is how the parts actually fit together.
slicing in 3d printing is something else
its turning a 3d model into a series of 2d masks
or gcode
Pinning is one of those things I always thought was super annoying until I got a decent set of bits for my pin vise and got into Heavy Gear, where it was necessary on almost every model.
Now I find it kind of fun and like that it makes badly designed models kind of feel like well designed models when you put them together.
All the Tohaa talk had me go hunt for a spiral corps army box, which is super hard to find now but I remembered a local store had one. Turns out they overstocked Tohaa a while back and no one plays it there, so I got several things.
So I guess I play spiral now.
Its a set of smaller bits that get assembled
Spiral is actually pretty fun
More interesfinf tohaa
I need to find the mk12 kiel-saan
Great model
i'm excited to get them on the table, they are super unique
they had a box of Rasails that i'm pretty excited about
though they didn't have the cool guy with the larger beasts
Tricore and access to helots do a lot to set it apart
Love me my draal triads
i don't know if this technically counts as indie or alternative, but does anyone have any experience with the Black Powder Red Earth wargame?
it looks interesting, but the price tag is making me a little cautious
“Indy and alternative” has really just become the “not-Warhammer” thread.
the alternative is alternative to warhammer pretty much
Unfortunately never tried Black Powder Red Earth though
As the thread op, "indie/alternative" means "doesnt have and cant yet sustain a thread of its own"
BPRE minis look sick but that price tag really do be Hefty
Also I am not familiar with the comic but media about operators operating operationally gets a side-eye; not trying to play “the GWOT is extremely good, actually” the skirmish game
Didnt know about this, googled it and yep.
Thats definitely a potential vibe
Like I’ve never read any of it but I recognize the art style, I saw it in the wild many years ago and I can’t remember what the red flag was but it’s like “Black Rifle Coffee Company adjacent” if that means anything to anybody
yeahhh
like its def reminiscent of that overly tacticool SF jerk, if that makes sense? But I give it somewhat of a pass because it sounds well recieved for Urban Combat and it primarily focuses on a fictional conflict which seems, at least to my limited knowledge, fairly grey and not just painting the locals as savages/evil terrorists
if i play it, i might just change up setting + factions and whatnot, but the actual core gameplay seems interesting
sidenote, god i hate Black Rifle Coffe Company. aside from the pretty bad coffee, its just so... idk. lame? its like those tactical baby carriers, cause some guys aren't secure in their masculinity enough to wear a normal baby bjorn
I think what takes it from regular “commodification of the Forever War” type shit to actually funny is that the coffee really is quite bad
Like damn, y’all mfs genuinely are only drinking this because the bag has tiger stripe on it
its really military grade!
made by the lowest bidder and barely meeting its qualifications.
ironically i think i'd rather have mre coffee than brcc stuff
There’s no right or wrong to what’s good in an mre; that’s between the mreater and their higher power,
anyways, if i do end up biting that price tag and checking it out, i'll post a review of the rules.
models seem high quality, but not really my thing aesthetically (which may be a good thing, as they're expensive as hell).
might just buy some modern-ish forces from some other companies
maybe just some desert or woodland camo marines and some more generic rebels or smth
Spectre does my favorite ultramoderns on the market right now,
Pretty good price point, too
will be sure to check them out!
anyways, buying new models will be fun. i’ve been meaning to put together something together for a near future Sino-American war. that could be a fun alternative to the war on terror.
A modern game with a minis line not having some kind of free quickstart rules or free rules reference is a poor sign imo
Even warhammer has official quickstart overview rules
its certainly a pain for me, someone who constantly tries out new wargames & ttrpgs to see what sticks
chuckles in infinity player
God I love the entire ruleset being free
I feel so privileged
Gaslands is a remarkably well designed game
Also converting matchbox cars is wonderful mad science.
Anyone have any experience with grimdark future?
A little with the firefight version.
I liked it. It's a lot like the last edition of Kill Team but without GWs special rules/strategem bloat. Just a quick playing beer and pretzels minis game.
I found it and thought it was kinda interesting. I know it's based on 28mm bases but about what size base is that?
slightly larger than a 25mm
which is like
the standard base size for a round base
although I'm pretty sure all the opr stuff is miniature agnostic and generally just uses whatever the equivalent 40k mini is
you might be confusing it with 28mm scale?
Maybe
Yeah, opr is 28mm scale, not base
Wargames scale notation being perhaps the worst of all hobby scale notationd
Model railroad is pretty bad but wargaming definitely has it beat imho
model railroad just gives you no information
wargaming can give you actively misleading information
Although we are free of shit like “N gauge” meaning one of three different scales depending on what country you’re in
There was recently a thread on the MaschinenKrieger sub that got into talking about wargaming scales because S2G is getting some traction with their 15mm Ma.K range and wargame,
And somebody is in there arguing that 15mm infantry and 1:100 vehicles are not compatible because “those are different scales, here’s the math”
Which, yes, but also a.) “15mm” doesn’t tell you as much as you think about how big those models actually are, and b.) that’s been a wargaming convention for fifty years now so believe it or not the models do scale to each other just fine in the real world, where I live
(secure from soapbox)
my brain keeps arguing with me that 20mm models cant be hot wheels size but thats what all the gaslands figures you can buy are
Gaslands is “Matchbox scale”, right?
Hot Wheels cars et al.
That’s like HO gauge, 20mm sounds about right
But honestly none of this means a damn thing if the minis don’t Vibe when standing next to the cars imho
So how Big is 28mm scale compared to 40k models?
40k is 28mm but with kind of funky proportions
And a lot of the models are oversized because they represent people who are Large
Ok
40k is nominally 28mm but has in the past been called "heroic scale."
You get heroic scale in multiple things
My flames of war 15mm and my Other Brands of 15mm clash
Flames of war makes peoples heads and hands bigger
Yeah, just that it gets most associated with GW models.
Yeah and because of People Who Are Large the most common 40k base size is 32mm
Warhammer scale is all over the place, and has been referenced in different ways to the point where 3rd party terrain manufacturers say "compatible with 28-32mm scifi miniatures."
apparently theres some kerfuffle going on with Trench Crusade at the moment
but i gotta say
it made me actually sit down and read the playtest rules
shit is VERY cool
sultanate does everything i want out of a skirmish faction in both theming and playstyle (they have MULTIPLE big guys)
Knowing that Trench Crusade is the brainchild of the dude who wrote Mordheim made a lot of it feel familiar.
the kerfuffle was chuds assuming the heavy catholic theme game was made by chuds for chuds but it is not
so a bunch of them flooded the discord and got banned
eventually the discord got closed because chuds got so mad
More specifically the discord was for 28mag, as there wasn't a strictly Trench Crusade-only discord. I believe that's getting spun off into its own server.
Love Gaslands so much. Needs a PDF release though.
It's not a game that wants you to be too competitive and I appreciate that.
Closest thing to a Redline tabletop game we'll ever get probably too.
I've never found it very important what size model you're specifically using as long as everyone agrees its reasonable compared to everything else. One of my models is like 70mm long but being long has a lot of disadvantages so shrug.
If someone said "no you can't use it" I'd acquiesce but it's funny.
One of my hesitancies with trench crusade was yhat i assumed thr playerbase was gonna be chuds
Very glad thats not the case
Its more for me trying to keep my team looking nice and consistent
My war rig is like 10cm long in the cab
One upside to this whole Trench Crusade kerfuffle
I can just search 'trench crusade' on Youtube and find a variety of exciting new channels to block.
But seriously, now i want to look more into the game.
Like guy who wrote Mordheim and super John Blanche feel.
Trench crusade rules are out?
I think there was a playtest document early this year
the most recent playtest version came out in late april
and added three new factions, one of which i have decided is The Best One
gosh Trench Crusade really is just fuckin stacked, isn’t it
Mordheim et Cie.
Mike Franchina AND John Blanche
Chocolate AND Peanut Butter
I do prefer when trash takes itself outside tbh
Hold the fuck up nobody told me Trench Crusade has so much sauce. What a fucking good aesthetic.
It really is just “the official Mike Franchina skirmish game” but also that’s a sick vibe
Someone tell me when I can put money into this one
IDK, I know it got super crowdfunded
Later this year is whats planned
For some miniatures, yeah.
Can I just say Till's been a wonderful person to learn Infinity with
ooh, crisis protocol, I have a bunch I've been working on
meant to do more today but I haven't been feeling well
I've got shadowlandDaredevil/Elektra, collosus/magik, and carnage/mysterio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc4VSCKOVFM blkout sounds cool
These are some new wargaming skirmish games that have potential - what do you think about them?
BLKOUT: http://www.blkoutgame.com
Steel Rift: http://www.steelrift.com
Trench Crusade: http://www.trenchcrusade.com
This Quar's War: http://wargamesatlantic.com/products/this-quars-war-clash-of-rhyfles
Swill from Turnip28: http://www.patreon.com/Turn...
BLKOUT is a fast-paced tactical tabletop wargame. Command finely crafted 32mm scale miniatures on the battlefield and clinch victory in under 30 minutes. Each game is a test of cunning and tactical prowess. Immerse in a futuristic combat experience that's quick to play, quick to learn, hard to master!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkmzJ5ceRjs hmm. alternating activations of entire units, but each model does take its own mini activation sequentially
i've seen that called "limited igougo"
or group activations
its a compelling style, tbh, cause it lets you have the "i need to solve this problem with this tool before i solve the next problem" style of igougo without the long turns
pure AA often becomes a very reactive playstyle
im using this unit to counter what you just did with the unit you just activated
i've been thinking about using it in the minis game im noodling with
gotta test some stuff first
Didn’t realize BLKOUT was free rules; might could give those a read this week.
Pretty slick sculpts if you like a Titanfall type vibe tbh
Jeez you work fast
Thanks? Hehehe
blkout is kinda hyping me
Something about their website sets alarm bells off for me, but I haven’t read the rules yet or anything
Needing to give them a bunch of info to download the free rules kinda puts me off
We're both still very new to the game and learning the rules. I've since learned how Sustained actually works and we've corrected MOST of what we did wrong here.

if you see anything nazi shaped definitely tell me
because "infinity but AA" has been my dream wargame for so long
"infinity but AA without all the dumb boobie ladies"
AA?
alternating activations
I prefer AA for multiplayer games but prefer alternating for single player versus AI games
They definitely used to have a big red white ‘n blue “Veteran Owned and Operated” banner, which
Not inherently red flagged, but
Yeah not a red flag exactly but kind of hmmm just knowing the wargaming space
I am cautiously curious
Advertising that feels like a solid red flag
IGYG is inherently asymmetric, you can either try and balance it with another minor asymmetry or you can just lean fully into asymmetric design
In other news I read over the free rules and it looks pretty functional
Definitely simple, I was sort of hoping for at least a few example unit cards though
Are unit profiles free?
Don’t seem like it
There’s a free rule book but it doesn’t include unit profiles
And buying the models gets you a plastic datacard with their rules on it
Yeah I’d like to be able to see at least some just to contextualize the rules
Trench crusade has fully sold me
The sultanate hits basically everything i like in a skirmish game faction
Lots of technical variety, multiple different sizes of units
Heavy artillery
Backpacks
They are my favorites as well. I really hope that as more content rolls out for the game, they can get a Warband variant that focuses on alchemists. Like, being able to replace Azebs with some kind of lesser homunculi as your mook units and being able to customize Lions of Jabir with special abilities, as described in their fluff.
They are planning a house of wisdom subfaction
Which is the alchemists
Are the unit profiles not in here?
Wait never mind, I thought you were askign about Trench Crusade
Ignore me
Lmao
Trench crusade is free
At least for the moment
Which is part of how i managed to fall in love with it
It genuinely kinda feels like Warhammer 40K's alternate timeline cousin where they made better choices
I'm pretty much just waiting to see what the buy in will be
i mean, its young still
its learned from 40k
and a bunch of other stuff
hopefully buy-in is low but its also minitures agnostic for 32 mil scale so there might also be cheaper options
Wargames Atlantic’s plastic WWI stuff has a really low cost per mini; box of those plus a little ingenuity and some real grungy paint work, you’re there.
Oh, really? This is useful for multiple things.
I considered making a Turnip28 army but I guarantee it would never get used so I'd just be doing funny model art really
Which is itself valuable its just slightly less valuable than a game I would actually get to play one day potentially
Yeah, their Great War boxes run $35 for either 30 or 35 plastic infantry, and the sprues look like they’re just packed with heads et c
So obviously I'm posting the new infinity stuff that was announced here: https://youtu.be/BJH9YlYwVUg?si=h3MTdAQtzqYKSvfo

Malifaux’s having another global campaign
Cadmus and Marshal both look great
Especially since I already love those two themes
fuck off O-12 aren't allowed to be cool
unfair
these also fuck hard
Basically if you win a custom match and send them proof you vote for which of the paths Nia takes
I don't play tri-chi but I want them to win because look at that hawaiian shirt
Girl is havin' a GREAT time.
Oh heck if that's what this is I'm very interested
Shame infinity doesn't work with AA. I've tried it a few times and it functions without major modification, but strategically it bogs down and becomes a super reactive stalemate
Haven't tried chunking it to alternating batches of orders, which might work. Flipping the order paradigm might work too - most things give only an order for themselves but command models give one that can be used anywhere.
I think there's a lot of space just in modding infinity as a starting point
There's definitely a universe where infinity works with AA but the ARO stuff really gets in the way of it not being reaction hell
Maybe if you made ARO stuff also work on an action pool?
Been reading through Ashes of Malifaux, the new book. Some real good stuff in there, buncha wild model combos, but I'm pretty sure two pieces of art utilized AI.
This is just...what is going on with that wheel
Man
Looking for trench crusade content is kinda sucky right now
It's all filled with Arch garbage :(
Very excited to see how it plays though, the theme is neat
I just need to sell myself on the game really
I think given enough time (which like, shit give it like two weeks) they'll move on to the next dumb culture war talking point and TC will be free of their stink.
Looked fine at a distance but weird up close, what’s the he other one
What's selling me on the game is that the dude who worked on the rules did Mordheim.
His buttons don’t line up with the jacket either
Finger on the hand melds into the jacket, and hair is very...not good.
There's a piston going into his leg, the wheel can't decide if it's got solid gear teeth or two separate lines, the shadow on the wheel is fucked, and there's this half-finished sketch look to parts that feel really off.
Never mind he doesn't look like he's sitting, more like standing.
Oh and the chair doesn't really align either.
Additionally:
- coat collar seems off
- the FUCK is with those grenades
- Coat on the left-hand side by the hip is a visual mess of ??? I don't even KNOW
Her face has that kind of generic sheen of AI art too, like if she didn't have the goggles it'd be some "play with me my lord" AI woman from a bad mobile game ad.
These are how those models look for reference
Concept art comes first, then the models, generally speaking.
And the models look a hell of a lot more cohesive, but that's to be expected.
That’s my point, it makes errors more noticeable when you look at the cleaned version
Wyrd lists all the artists in the first 2 pages of each book but when looking each one up I couldn't find out who did those pieces, so.
Oh, fair!
I keep hearing that name being thrown around but I'm not old enough to know what it is..
I assume it's some Warhammer Fantasy derived thing though?
Yeah.
The original Warhammer Fantasy skirmish game
:0
It's a skirmish game from 1998 where you play warbands in the ruined city of Mordheim, digging for treasures and magical rocks called wyrdstones.
You can play as humans, skaven, undead, chaos, and a whole host of others. It's got a whole campaign system where models gain experience and get better stats and skills, as well as injuries.
Had someone in another server once argue the imperium wasn’t fascist and linked an Arch video, one of the dumbest takes I’ve ever seen
Even before it became obvious that he was a Nazi, Arch was a shit youtuber.
Mordheim is one of my favorite games but it's also a hot mess that's wildly imbalanced and requires some houserules and a gentleman's agreement not to break it over their knee.
Like...Just quality-wise. He'd just read wiki articles verbatim
https://broheim.net/downloads.html For anyone who wants to read Mordheim. The rules have been free for ages and hasn't been supported since uh...like 2004.
But yeah. This whole mess has made me very glad I got a firefox plugin that lets me block youtube channels
Oh that sounds useful!
So many exciting Chud channels I've never seen before, and now never have to again!
Also I love Necromunda
Even if it has the exact same balance problem as Mordheim
I've done a bit of research and apparently the people they have out at events are pretty awesome.
While these claims are only second-hand on my part, I think it gives a deal of hope that things aren't going to turn out for the worst
Though that's really less of an issue, as if you're doing Necromunda competatively and not narratively, you're doing it wrong
I'm a little weirded out by one of the main guys going by "head goon" and running example games in a balaclava but its not a red flag its just an eccentricity
I know it's a whole thing now, apparently, but the first thing that comes to mind when I hear 'goon' is always
I know the video is quiet, please do not comment this.
Recorded on a linux distro with broken ALSA implementation.
Tbf it could be far, far worse
I'm not one to judge immediately but I'll remain cautiously optimistic
Having watched a game of it though, I think it looks pretty great
And I always have an appreciation for full factions in a box
I need to see it in action
It looks very simple? Like few special rules and being all about placement
Which isn't bad
But I also haven't seen most of the unit rules
I mean here's this report
https://youtu.be/q9pXLPSntiE?si=L8GLxUg9DhY9nEs6
We're both still very new to the game and learning the rules. I've since learned how Sustained actually works and we've corrected MOST of what we did wrong here.

Also
Behold
The only pictures of unit cards I could find
Thanks!
It looks like weapon stats may be somewhere else, though
Assuming they have stats beyond range
I may simply be infinity-brained though
Cause like
All the factions use a basically universal list of the same weapons in Infinity N4
Reminds me a little bit of the original pitch for MERCS.
Before it drifted into a board game and went under/got sold.
Looks like weapons are captured on those cards? I see ranges in inches and traits like cqb and sustained
I definitely see the comparison with MERCS, that’s the first thing that came to mind
It's probably worth noting that all that all the cards also have some other stuff on the opposite side
Also downloading the rules appears to give you access to some example cards as well
It's not really reaction hell. It's not wanting to leave anything out so that it can get hit by active turn burst. You can't really do objectives or effectively move across the map if on the next order your opponent just pops out and kills your guy.
Infinity is sort of built for you to use 2-3 orders to get any one thing done.
This is true
I suspected the ARO stuff may be a problem but I suppose it's kind of moot when your opponent can react to anything you do with full active turn burst anyways
Yeah, ARO primarily affect board design IMO. You could get rid of AROs since you can react in active by doing stuff but at that point you'd be changing enough stuff you're writing a new game.
I think doing 3 person combat groups that all have irregular orders + 1 regular and alternating those might be the ticket.
For a starting point.
Smaller groups and smaller boards seems to be the way to go
I like the irregular orders idea too
...BLKOUT basically does that
Maybe as fireteams. Maybe not? But I think the key is making most orders irregular. Each group getting a regular for just that group, then the LT order(s) able to be spent anywhere.
Heavy Gear sort of does it that way too, and has reactions take your action points so it's not super reactive on the more open boards it likes.
This discord is arch-type person free
At least so far
And on the infinity point, i think infinity uses its IGOUGO for sequentialist play
Its the "i need to do x to get y to push button"
Every turn presents a puzzle
Yeye, the mods keep at that in check
Miswrote
The discord
For trench crusade
Its good so far
If you want TC content
"Keep politics out of games" crowd angry when game does not support their politics
so it goes
They opened a new trench crusade specific discord
28mag is also now open again
Also, i should read 28mag
We should talk about 28mag
What’s 28mag?
ohh so that's what happened
Someone should really hand them a mirror someday
Though it's likely they'll just smash it
High aesthetic?
“artpunk”
mirrors are of no use to the blind
Woah that line goes hard
"I solve your puzzle, then present you with my own"
28 rules! Glad to see it being talked about here
Played infinity tonight!
We played a mission with lots of objectives (mindwipe)
I uh...
I tried out a guided missile bot for the first time.
It killed 3 of my opponent's most important models with one missile.
He just conceded then and there
I kind of feel bad tbh, but the dice hated him
Anything that would shoot at him would invariably kill the model
I guess the game is just like that sometimes :/
That is how wargames go, sometimes.
That's rough. GML is not super effective when it's approached properly but it's so interactive and punishing when someone doesn't do that.
One missile killing 3 guys is probably his mistake in positioning but damn, feels bad when it happens.
Mindwipe is a fun scenario. Really demands you build for the mission. Tbh that's one of my favorite parts of infinity. You can't just build a list in a vacuum. You have to build for your mission set. Especially tournament prep where you need 2 lists that can handle 3 missions. Sometimes 5 but 5 round tournaments are pretty rare.
The tournament I won here in Atlanta was geared towards newer players and had a good mission set for it. Unmasking, Last Launch, and Panic Room. All have exclusion zones or confused deployment so it really slows down the alpha strikes and really made sure every game, even the blowouts, weren't over in the first round.
one of my favorite missions to have in a tournament set is biotechvore
not sure if its still in the mission rotation
but BTV is great when you can figure out a list that can do BTV and another mission
It is. BTV is really interesting. Presents really different challenges than a lot of other missions.
The only thing I don't like about BTV is that its much rougher on vanilla lists compared to sectorials. Fireteam movement efficiency goes a long way
But the whole piling everyone into the middle where it becomes an absolute brawl is really fun
No yeah, it definitely was
But still
Felt bad
I had a really good list for the mission though, everyone had antimat CC and I had ssooooo many specialists
What's the average attitude to the idea of offering a mulligan in a casual infinity match you've turn-one'd
Depends on time. Deployment and round 1 typically take as long as round 2 and 3. I definitely always offer to go through things and talk through the game if my opponent is up for it.
Been doing that yeah
God one-turning can be such a mood killer. Had a few games when I was getting back into infinity end pretty quickly for various reasons. I completely crippled an Ariadna player on reactive first turn with the classic msv2 viral sniper tricore with my spirals. Karma swung back shortly after in a game where Mary problems pitchered her way through my MO and a hollow man rocket jumped my fireteams to death once they where stuck
As much as I love infinity, competitive play can get so punishing at times
Unless you've messed up insanely badly, I'd usually look for a way to get through the next two rounds
But.. as stated above, it really does kill the mood
If you leave your key pieces vulnerable, they will get targeted
We should decide on another mission to play through soon
You can turn one me there and it will be a valuable lesson
I'd prefer not to, tbh
But if you're asking for it...
Also, we'll probably play something like frontline
The setup of the table itself is also a big factor. With tables as dense as they are it definitely feels a lot harder to standardize table setups and that can lead to some weird deployments and firing lines that can bite you
I personally set up my tables to be pretty dense, with maybe 2 open areas on the sides
I have a lot to learn in general when it comes to terrain/map design
I struggle to even do it for ttrpgs
infinity tables need to be hyper dense
You need so, so much scatter terrain
Quite a few big buildings as well
I don't have any terrain or anything since this is a brand new thing for me
I would genuinely like advice on basic buys
Infinity terrains sets are honestly pretty safe bets
I've lost Jeanne an unfortunate amount of times to an opponent that manages to find the perfect firing angles to thread the needle with a missile or multi sniper. Can't complain too much tho, I've done some dirty shit with Carlota thanks to terrain making my opponent deploy with blind spots in their deployment zone. Love hitting them with the surprise adhesive to the back
Yeah the two player sets still seem fairly safe for me to invest in
i might just commit to keeping the whole thing
You can also just get the terrain on its own if you want to
do you have a local
Yes but I'm not sure where atm
My friend knows them but hasn't shared where they are except there's a facebook group, and i don't have facebook really
ugh
I tried making an account with my new legal name like 2 years ago and it said something about the name not being real enough and prevented me using that email again lmfao
Yeah I don't know it was weird, I must have seemed sus in other ways
Better than the Chicago infinity folks who used to run everything out of a Google group.
Facebook is fucky
I'm stupid lucky I guess, all the locals for any wargames at all near me use discord
Even the shop owners
It's great
It’s moving that way for a lot of communities I think.
I hope so!
Being able to communicate like that is sooo much better
My local scene all uses a discord which is very nice
Especially cause it covers ~5 stores (though one is definitely the main spot)
Re: 1-turning. Infinity has a ton of come back potential. Most games I've felt were hopeless turn one I've been able to crawl back to a tie or within 1-2 points. You can absolutely get obliterated but you can also get a lot done with very little.
Terrain wise I'll second the official stuff. Tinkerturf crates look great and are super useful to have around. Acid House is not the sturdiest but it transports super well.
I've had good luck with some RPG terrain as well, here's a table using the GF9 tenfold dungeon stuff I played a smaller game on this weekend. The verticality was really cool.
If you have a 3d printer I have a good set for files for a simple outpost that is really modular and great for infinity.
Of course if you're looking for premium there's Warsenal or micro art studio color printed terrain.

I'm now a partner on Twitch! I paint minis ...
I only hear about it second hand really, but from what I understand they're a pretty meta team for that reason.
They can play a lot of keep away.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ttcfm2/striketeam-commander TTCombat doing a new skirmish game, KS coming soon
Oh dang
I've always had their stuff on my radar somewhere
Didn't even know they were still around
Carnevale has been a hit for them.
Man does anyone play Carnevale, that game looks so cool
I've only really met one person who knows it at all
I remember a lowish buyin for some sick minis too? I think?
I really wanted to get into Dropzone Commander
I would have if anyone near me played it
Ran into the same problem as a lot of games, in that nobody around here played it
Yeah :(
It's unfortunate
It's 95% Warhammer, and most of the rest is either Legions, Battletech, or Marvel stuff
Hopefully trench crusade will explode near me though, everyone's talking about it
And I haven't played a narrative based skirmish game yet
ANother that I have a bunch of models for that I really want to play is Necromunda
I'd love to do a campaign of that
I'm genuinely getting really sold on TC as long as its at the right price point
and if it isn't i might kitbash for it
i know a good place for the types of minis i'd need nearby it would not be hard honestly
That's the best bit! It's miniatures agnostic.
They've kickstarted a few official minis, but they've also said it's intended for you to go wild with converting stuff
I would really like some officials
At least I'd like to wait and see what they're like for inspo
I don't know if they're available yet, but there are some up on the discord server.
Yes
It's a new server now also
Not hosted on 28
But after last week they've been rather proactive about taking out the trash
If that's from the server they link on their site currently it says not to share stuff I think
I kinda know it it's a mess of a system that demands a regular group going on on the narrative stuff
😦
yeah its good. ppl are normal about sultanate which is nice
often the trash takes itself out because they want to come in and start a fight and then get mad that noone plays their game
very good "no politics but identity politics isnt politics" rule that serves to self-select people who get mad about that kind of thing
Yeah I entered with caution then saw the rules and was like "oh that's fair and probably correct for this game frankly."
If anyone desperately wants to make Trench Crusade Discord But We Can Say Slurs they're welcome to self-select out of the wider community I reckon
I imagine if they did they probably won't be making much traction. Considering this is the Official one that the game authors regularly post on, and they presumably okay'd the rules.
Oh no, it would just be an easy way to find out who to ban from the main server
forget passive income, discord thrives on passive outcome
let the trash take itself out.
That's lovely to hear!
Honestly I'd be interested in trying blkout with people here on tts
I enjoy using TTS
