it's bad out here. there are 24 different bound ghosts monitoring shipping tonnage in and out of the city. the mask of winters keeps sending abyssals to kung fu punch them but the sidereal necromancy division at the Stylite Pillar immediately places two more spy satellites in their place

sorcerous martial arts run into the issue that you can make kung fu out of being bronze or using a blood lash but you can't really make kung fu out of summoning a gigantic kaiju magma kraken. unless you make the kraken do kung fu. but at that point you're letting it do the kung fu for u

wise ocean
buoyant summit

So it works for firewands, goremauls, smashfists, and thunderbolt shields?

marsh garden

yeah, it def fits things like Lightning Spider or (relevant to me) Field of Fell Dreams tho

which is super helpful

buoyant summit
#

That's kinda a funnily eclectic mix

wise ocean
#

nah, reflavoring

tulip folio
#

Makes sense, attack spells have the issue that you need to charge them up generally so you'd have to design it around a martial art you only make an attack with once every few turns. With Guillotine sidestepping that by going 'the effect of the marital art is that it's a Real Weapon'.

marsh garden

Mana-Shattering Thews
Cost: —; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 3
Type: Permanent
Keywords: Terrestrial, Mastery
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Sky-Twisting Boar Form
The martial artist is no more halted by the work of sorcerers than she is by soldiers or architects. With the bioccultic tensions of each muscle cord, they shatter spellcraft and tear open gates long sealed.

The Martial Artist can use Countermagic with (Stamina + Presence). For this purpose, the martial artist is considered to have Celestial Circle Sorcery and knowledge of all spells. If she is in Sky-Twisting Boar form, she gains an automatic success on such actions.

Terrestrial: The Martial Artist is considered to have Terrestrial Circle Sorcery for this purpose.
Mastery: At Essence 5, the Martial Artist is considered to have Solar Circle Sorcery for this purpose.

I do fully believe that a Baki Character would work out the Right Way To Flex Muscles to break a spell.

Does this read okay for Drakes as 'Okay, they're assholes but they're not always shoot on sight assholes'?

There are many stories of dragons, of their glory and their majesty. However, the excesses of the Princes of the Earth give birth to other tales too; Their rapacious hunger for treasures, their preening pride in their scales and their vitriolic hate. It is from these tales of Dragons that Drakes emerge.

Long serpentine creatures, Drakes are far from animals. Within their eyes burns a fierce cunning and a mastery of the art of poison. Their forked tongues can poison minds and deadly liquid drips from their fangs. Yet there is a beauty reflected in their scales, a hint of something grander they can be. The same poisons that can tear apart relationships and scar flesh can eat away at disease or curses alike and their mastery of deception makes them deadly foes against those who would try to deceive those they value.

Drakes can be found hidden throughout much of creation, often in places terrorized in the past by Elemental Dragons and Princes of the Earth. They collect treasures and agents who can act on their behalf, building up little domains they call their own. For all their claims to glory, many of them are mercenary beings who will happily trade their services as courtiers or doctors for glittering gems.

The issue with being 'this is good at backstabbing' is you need to give enough 'okay but what if they're not backstabbing you this time?' to make people get in proper stabbing of backs range.

tulip folio
#

One thing I like when working on non-demons: You don't need to budget for 'Oh yeah, this guy will have the ability to just buy extra turns'

#

So you can give beefier/more charms without worry about 'but what about Principle of Motion letting them take two turns in a row?'

coral wraith
#

principle of motion is just mean

tulip folio
#

Lets me give the Drake some asshole charms like 'Hey, my inflict poison charm works on my bite or if I weaken one of your intimacies'

#

As it can literally poison you if it poisons your mind.

#

The next fey after this will be kelpies because I plan to be a dickhead with them.

#
Stagnant Water Breath: A character in Close range of a Kelpie can breath water as easily as air, if the Kelpie allows them. Such characters must make a difficulty 4 Diagnosis roll as a miscellaneous action to determine if they are currently breathing and how much longer they can hold their breath if they are not.
#

(Most of their mechanics won't involve drowning as those rules are not good but if you trusted the horse famous for drowning people to not drown you, you kinda deserve that one)

#

Also updated the Redcap's 'Oh, this thing is fucking terrifying' trait.

#
Razor-Sharp Teeth: The Redcap applies double 9s on rolls to destroy something with its bite or to inflict terror with physical violence. This does not apply to attacks but is increased to double 8s if the target is small enough to fit in its mouth (Up to the size of a deer if it unhinges its jaw).

#

I ended up Doing Math on this and reworking the numbers to make it scale better.

#
Local Terrestrial God (Essence 2) put a Trivial Curse on you (You're Impotent or something):

With Average Successes, Cured in 3 rolls. Averaging 2.4 aggravated health levels. If you make that god Celestial (Essence 5) then you're looking at 3.2 health levels. That's 'Oh yeah, it'll suck but I'll likely live'.

Local Terrestrial God (Essence 2) put a Major Curse on you (My arms don't work). Will take twice as many successes but due to averages that's 6 rolls, which for a mortal means he's looking at 4.8 health levels. That's getting a Bit Risky but is on average safe. Moving that up a celestial god pushes it to 8 rolls and 6.4 health levels. Now you're *really* playing with fire.

Oh but these gods are Real Assholes and they turn you into a Frog, a Life-Altering Curse. For the Terrestrial God? 7.1 Health Levels. You're likely gunna die but you might beat the odds. Got turned into a frog by a *Celestial* god? 8 health levels. You're gunna need the devil's own luck for that one if you're not an exalt.
#

If you get Duck Punched by an E5 Sidereal? 13.6 health levels to cure. Even Exalts with Ox-Bodies available are staring at that one and going 'Oh, that's a lot of health levels'.

That could be fun! Maybe give it anti-stealth tech?

#

I was pondering a Kelpie as an alternate mount.

#

Also because I've been rewatching ducktales

#

But yeah, a 3 dot worthy hunting hound could be fun.

#

...vague pondering: It's okay generally but it brings Anti-Stealth and Anti-Dematerialized tech. So if a demon or god tries to go 'I'll just go to the spirit realm and they won't be able to stop me', they end up with bite marks on their backside when they arrive.

fierce star
#

oooh

#

i like that

tulip folio
# fierce star i like that
Otherworldly Pursuit (5m; Reflexive; Essence 2): The Cu Sidhe may reflexively Rush a character attempting to leave short range of the Cu Sidhe, adding 2 automatic successes. This can contest magic that would leave a scene, establish stealth or cause a character to become dematerialized (such as Avoidance or Travel Without Distance) negating that magic if the Cu Side successfully Rushes that character.

The Kelpie idea involved:

Stagnant Water Breath: A character in Close range of a Kelpie can breath water as easily as air, if the Kelpie allows them. Elpis, Malfean Bronze Harness (Artifact ****)
Malfeas does many things. One of the things he does is hate. The Elpisi were a species of first-circle demons of Cytherea. They were in many ways counterparts to Mafleas' own Metody; elemental creatures embodying a physical substance. What that substance is is no longer known; Malfeas and She Who Lives In Her Name put forth a pogrom of them, binding the vile demons in skeletal harnesses made of Malfean bronze and imbued with Vitriol. Most of these harnesses have been destroyed over the years, but some remain; they inflict great injury onto their wearers, but enhance their mental abilities, attaching to their wearers with long, spined needles of over-ordered bronze. Some, it is whispered, still have some of that secret material hidden deep inside them, waiting to be unleashed on the world again.

Attunement: 4m
Rules: So long as the bearer remains attuned to this artifact, they cannot have any pre-existing crippling injuries healed by any means, but they gain +[1/2 essence] non-charm successes on rolls to resist Shaping (Body) effects as long as they are wearing it. Removing this artifact increases the exalt's wound penalty by 1 for the next scene.

Evocations of Elpis focus on Malfeas' paranoia, SWLIHN's need for order, and, as it progresses, towards unleashing that most secret and horrible element held so dear by Cytherea--Hope.

Evocations:

i just got the last of my shit to get out the door in the abyssals companion/sids companion and then i'm largely just The Borb Of Feedback And Some Ideas

spiral cosmos
#

that's kind of you to say, thank you. i wish you much gossamer and rune essence from your mines

tulip folio
#

Mostly I've made a Horrible Snake but next on the list is Raksha Commoners. I basicly took a page from what Infernals and Alchemicals did and made myself a 'Wyld Beast' template I can use as a foundation for my work to make it faster.

marsh garden
tulip folio
#

That was some damn good game design they did there.

#

Yeah. There's a few 'this creature type doesn't align with a particular exalt's primary interests'.

#

While Gods/Demons/Undead all have an exalt in their corner helping their pagespace totals.

marsh garden
#

we only got one generic ghost with abyssals, as well

#

it's mostly just demons and machine spirits

#

and we're waiting on companions

tulip folio
#

I know there's a god template or two coming with sids

#

I think my challenge with commoners will be squaring a circle

#
  1. Everything in exalted is a person, treat them like types of people
    B) Raksha Commoners are very monofocused/kinda lack a lot of identity outside the single grace they're good at.
iii) Being quick characters, I need to keep the focus broad enough to discuss them as categories, not individuals.
#

Which to be fair, I think I can do. Just a bit tricky

#

Oh Borb for a bit of a funny thing: I have been shorthanding Raksha nobles in the templates in a silly way.

Raksha Duelist
Primary Actions(12 Dice): Swashbuckling, Command, Charm, Feats of Strength
Secondary Actions(8 Dice): Almost Everything
Desperate Actions(4 Dice): Subtlety, Humility, Empathy

Messing with how the primary/secondary/desperate actions work by making the secondary the 'everything else' pool.

#

And then defining things the Raksha is just ratshit at.

spiral cosmos
#

buckle and swash...

#

that's fun

marsh garden
#

hm, do we have any codified rules for what A Familiar actually does, and how one would make/acquire a familiar outside of CC?

#

i can't think of anything

#

and it's not a purchased merit

prisma sun
#

The only thing we have is that a familiar is anything with a familiar dot rating

marsh garden
#

but it seems that there's a difference between "an animal buddy" and "a familiar"

prisma sun
#

Not really

marsh garden
#

there has to be, because there are charms that specifically allude to training non-familiar animals

prisma sun
#

Yes

#

But if you want a constant animal buddy that is always around you need a dot of familiar

#

Vs like

marsh garden
#

but there isn't anything on when a trained animal becomes a familiar, or what you'd do to change that, right?

#

just

#

"it happens"

#

and nothing on how many familiars you can have?

Yeah theres no real limit on merit dots

Other than reasonability

marsh garden

🙏

prisma sun
velvet raft
#

I get it whenever I can fit it in, personally, but the point is taken

#

Most people are not exalted

#

And many exalted do not have the ability

fierce star
#

yeah, schedules are always a pain

#

working a non-standard schedule makes it suck to get into games; I used to trawl for games all the time before I got into EMS but now, working 24 on/48 off, I basically have to beg the group to either not play one out of every three weeks, or miss one out of every three sessions, and there's only so many people willing to do that.

velvet raft
#

See in my case, I specifically went for a daytime game because I wasn't working and because evenings have become a problem for me

#

I fall asleep too early and too hard a lot of the time

#

So the standard 7-10 or 11 game has become a real challenge to do

#

But now I'm probably going to have a job soon

#

And odds are good it will be standard M-F 9-to-5

fierce star
#

velvet raft
#

Now there's some discussion of shifting to a weekend, and I've informed the table of all of this but like

#

Part of what's annoying is I don't have a schedule or start date yet

marsh garden
#

yeah

fierce star
#

yeah, not knowing is the worst bit

marsh garden
#

that's really frustrating, my sympathies

velvet raft
#

It's a well-established temporary employment program with the NYC parks department so it's very likely to start (a) mid-May, and (b) be either 9-5 or 8-4, according to people who have worked it

fierce star
#

🤔 an evocation that lets you make a reflexive clash against a surprise attack? no, no. probably too strong. Hm.

marsh garden
#

not as long as it's a follow-up

velvet raft
#

Might be okay, probably depends on the essence

marsh garden
#

sids have a tree a couple charms long about defending against surprises

velvet raft
#

That one charm from EGOA might be worth looking at

#

I think every splat has some kind of ambush defense

fierce star
#

yeah I was thinking E2 or 3

marsh garden
#

yeah, but the one i'm thinking of is like

fierce star
#

my basic setup for this artifact is two E1 charms, two E2 charms, two E3 charms and an E4 capstone

marsh garden
#

weirder than the "can defend against ambushes at Defense 2-ish" stuff

velvet raft
#

Oh yeah at E2 or E3 you could definitely make it work

fierce star
#

the themes being based around malfean paranoia and SWLIHN's need for everything to be ordered and categorized, up until you hit the capstone and then it's 'oh right, this artifact is imprisoning a demon of hope'

marsh garden
#

okay not the one i was thinking of, but

#

this is neat

velvet raft
#

This is of course from an SMA, so bear that in mind re: power level, but like

bleak hazel
#

reflexive clash surprise attack is available at Essence 3 of Swaying Grass Dance as long as you have Mastery

#

so there's your pricing

marsh garden
#

this is the one i was thinking of

velvet raft
#

Huh, I never noticed that one

#

Wild stuff

fierce star
#

ooh

#

excellent, plenty of stuff to look over then

#

but yeah the Malfean charms I kind of want to be combat focused, while the SWLIHN ones are likely to be MHM-boosters

velvet raft
#

And yeah, Evocations generally get a high-ish power level as charms go

fierce star
#

'Hand-Mind Manipulation: forgo the damage of a decisive attack wtih MHM to instead inflict a temporary intimacy base don damage dealt'

#

just reach in there and tweak things, you don't need that much grey matter and free will

velvet raft
#

I do love me some Mind-Hand Manipulation

fierce star
#

it is an excellent charm

velvet raft
#

Mind-Hand Manipulation w/infernal brawl seems deeply funny

fierce star
#

hoenstly I probably don't need that much defensive stuff, the character this artifact is for is a resistance-primordial azimuth

velvet raft
#

Oh, yeah, infernal resistance is somewhat stacked

fierce star
#

I have a naked starting soak of like 16 dice.

#

velvet raft

the problem of course is that the further I push my soak the closer I get to my GM legally beating me to death with hammers

velvet raft

My Green Sunderdome entry's solution to soak was just to snack hilarious amounts of overwhelming and post-soak damage

fierce star

she also has by pain reforged and the by agony empowered key for it, so she reduces all wound penalties by, uh.

fierce star
#

(funnily enough by agony empowered is the only thing she's using to take advantage of her supernal at E1)

ligier hits like the fist of god, but has no real soakbusting

Misc, what were the xp rules again? And did you allow homebrew evocations?

you just have to contend with his 15d 22/4 or 14d 24/5 weapons

I think I lose due to setup time then

marsh garden
#

no wait

#

less than that

#

way less than that

#

ah, no, more than that, i am an idjit

#

350 + 280

bleak hazel
#

Ligier not having a way to add many dice of post-soak is a significant weakness of his, yeah

#

Whelm 5 + double 8s still chunks decently but he struggles against anything that can stack a bunch of post-soak damage reductions like soakbeast lunars or solaroid resistance

marsh garden
#

his tools in the space are pretty good

#

bc nearly free 10d excellency + double 8s

#

but once you crack beeg soak and he's down to OVW he starts to flounder

fierce star
#

time to get to work and hope

marsh garden
#

which anyone trying to run him against a scary exalt probably fixes

#

since he has uh

#

two artifact 5 or N/As as his weapons

#

with only like 2 evos each

#

so there's an easy excuse for soakbusting/ovw spam within either of them if it's necessary

bleak hazel
#

he doesn't need anything genuinely massive

marsh garden
#

but raw it's definitely a huge pain point

bleak hazel
#

he just needs like, Fire And Stones Strike

(at increased cost because spirit charms)

#

how many charms for an artifact usually?

marsh garden
#

depends on the dot rating

#

before 5-dots, it's usually like

#

5 or 6 though

bleak hazel
#

3-dots are pretty consistently 5 evos, but it varies a decent amount

marsh garden
#

scaling up to e3 or e4

prisma sun
#

And for 5 dots?

marsh garden
#

depends a lot more, but often 8-ish?

bleak hazel
#

however many you like basically

marsh garden
#

all of these numbers are to give some custom evo leeway

#

since artifacts below 5-dot are capped on their maximum evo count

bleak hazel
#

Emerald Sunset is eight

marsh garden
#

Arms has a solid summary

bleak hazel
#

Second Sister, the 4 dot breastplate next to it, is four evos, one of which has a repurchase

#

so I tend to do basically every homebrew artifact I make with 5 evos and then add more if it needs them to save myself work, but I don't really make 5-dots

marsh garden
#

i've been trying to make 3-dots specifically to clamp down on the evocation count from my first two

bleak hazel
#

Red Revel has 7 evos at 5 dots, Sky Phalanx has four and unlocks one for free at 4 dots, so you can be quite parsimonious

marsh garden
#

sky phalanx has 5, technically

#

with its rebuy

#

but one's free

velvet raft
#

Really with a maximum of ten/fifteem/unlimited the answer is frequently “as many as you need for the concept”

prisma sun
#

I need to remind myself

#

The Five Fingers of the Maidens:
Index is Secrets (loyalty, deception)
Middle is Battle (courage, carnage)
Ring is Serenity (love, hate)
Pinky is Endings (passing, murder)
Thumb is Journeys (freedom, being lost)

bleak hazel
#

I'm working on Rival's swords, my Bluesid's silken armour and Ash's dusk's scythe so I'm just kind of randomly jumping back and forth between drafts as I get ideas

#

The armour's deal is that at the start of a fight you get to put various restrictions on yourself themed after the old Virtue Flaws and in exchange you get buffs, as it was made to answer a complicated philosophical argument over what virtue a warrior should most embody

wise ocean
#

I can handle evocations for that when we get there™, so don't worry about it overmuch

... come to think of it that's also ended up being a stance switch artifact

bleak hazel
#

so it has many evos because it's really tempting to just keep coming up with more bullshit binding vows

#

with upgrades for "the whole party vows not to do X today" and eventually "your opponent has to sit down at the table with you and lay out what they want out of this fight so you can negotiate a script" as the capstone

#

I'm going to have to cut like half of these but it's nice to have way too many ideas for my evo trees for once

prisma sun
#

which Jade would you put to each Maiden

spiral cosmos
#

just their regular elemental associations

#

bleak hazel

Each of the Maidens is associated with an element: Mercury with air, Venus with wood, Mars with fire, Jupiter with water, and Saturn with earth.

#

for quick reference, from the one Sid Craft charm that gives you caste themed elemental affinity

wise ocean
#

I am mildly surprised it's Jupiter/Water Saturn/Earth considering the Waters of Lethe and all

prisma sun
#

yeah but also u gotta get buried to go there

#

duh.....................

#

The Five Fingers are a pair of black silk gloves of intricate fabric design, veins of Starmetal running up past the wrist, giving a delicate and formal air. However each knuckle has an inset island of jade, indicating the Maiden associated with that finger. The thumb is set with blue jade flecked with gold orichalcum, representing Mercury, the index with black jade whorled with a sea-like green for Jupiter, the middle a fiery red jade for Mars, the ring a beautiful green jade accented with blue edges for Venus, and the pinky a solemn white and purple for Saturn.

Could be interesting but I'd be careful about giving infernals too many 'no stop that social action'.

Autochthonia is one of those settings where I wrote like 15000+ words of setting material and felt like I could have done just as much again, honestly, I love it more than almost anything in the IP

the physical bizarreness of the place is also super captivating

coral wraith

Yeah the physicality of Autocthton is very charming

tulip folio

I like Autocthonia in that...it's hard to express but a lot of science fantasy (See: Exalted 2e first age stuff) was often 'just making modern tech with mana'.

#

But for Autocthonia you've got stuff like Internal Shrines Against Disease

#

Where it's not doing the tech with magic. It's doing tech and magic together.

Oh yeah, I'm being a bit shorthandy. It's certainly militaristic, revanchist and has a strong cult of death element but it's complicated to put a precise label on.

The White Petal District

A marvel unlike anything else in Autochthon, The White Petal District is a simulacrum of a world forgotten save for distant dreams and ancient tomes. A blue painted ceiling serves as a sky while white steam clouds complete the effect, a warm sun-lamp shining down on the impossibly perfect city below.

Built across a large chamber beneath the chasm, two massive pools of water frame it at either side with a winding waterway running between them, crossed by many bridges and filling pools and fountains along the way. Both reservoir-seas have shores of pure white sand, one pool consisting of cool water that descends from above, another kept pleasantly warm by the thermal pits that fuel the superheated steam driving the city above.

Along the river and the shining shores are buildings beyond the imagination of the Populat far above. Palaces and cathedrals of pure white and pitch black, vast statue gardens and ornamental forests of metal trees. The Tripartite who frequent this place go around in light clothing to survive the sweltering heat, attended by a population of pampered servants who know nothing of the world beyond The White Petal District.

The White Petal District is an ostentatious excess that astonishes all those who see it, with almost nobody beyond the Tripartite and few from outside the city ever given the privilege. A select group of friendly foreign ambassadors have been invited in, when it is believed that they will come to understand the situation much as Vos-Ulos’s tripartite do.

The Dark Secret of the city RiRi is part of.

#

The Secret Tripartite Dacha.

marsh garden
#

and i've been stalling on doing anything with the evos until i get access to its e2 charm

spiral cosmos
#

what nation is that in?

tulip folio
#

It's a minor independent city!

coral wraith
#

Exalts need a little sleepy

#

To train

prisma sun
#

guh i will finish this tomorrow

tulip folio
#
Vos-Ulos is an independent Metropolis located in the Reaches, far from the Octet nations. The black rain, a mix of steam and ash, that falls from above leaves them rich in food and water. Unfortunately, their land is poor in veins and conduits, leaving them with few mineral resources, and the Colossi’s heart that powers their city struggles to provide the Essence they require.

They have Weird Resources for Autocthonia because they're near Industrial Organs of Steam and Ash.

marsh garden
prisma sun
#

I got the fluff decently done, charms need to be completely seperate

tulip folio
#

The troops from there have big backpack steam guns (Functionally flamepieces but with their own vibe)

prisma sun
tulip folio
#

The Metropolis itself is dead, though its heart still provides power.

#

The Viator of Nullspace got it

prisma sun
#

The idea of the charmlist is going to be that each Maiden gets a charm with both a Positive and Negative aspect to it

tulip folio
#

The premise is basicly 'this small independent city has been saving up their limited magical material for decades to finally have enough for a PC group of champions'

prisma sun
#

So for instance the Journeys charm will allow one to speed up or slow down a Things journey, the Secrets one will instill loyalty to hold to a silent oath, or make someone a horrible liar, etc

tulip folio
#

And even then, we're pretty sure they had to cut corners since RiRi comes to a grand total of 150cm. XD

spiral cosmos
#

ten divisions seems like a lot to mechanize

prisma sun
#

and then I am imagining a capstone of something like "Sororal Confluence: Fivepoints Achieve Fate's Decree"

#

where you clap your hands and hit 'em with the Kung Fu Hustle Buddah Palm or something

prisma sun
#

The main thing is that I want it to be a very versatile MA enabler

tulip folio
#

The Secret Triparate Dacha has an even darker secret: It was made by a Sidereal. The Permanent Undersecretary is a role that's existed as long as the city has...and nobody knows it's always been held by the same guy.

A poor sidereal who was investigating Autocthon when Autocthon grabbed all his followers and left creation and got dragged along for the ride. By this point he's old and tired and just wishes he could go back and see how that glorious exalted age is going. He's sure it's going well.

spiral cosmos
#

best piece of advice i can give you is to figure out one or two specific kinds of things in gamespace an artifact is meant to do then stick to it very strongly

prisma sun
#

Hrmmm

#

I will mull on this more when I am not exhausted

tulip folio
#

There's sorta 'what is this about thematically' and 'what is this about mechanically' and one can lead to the other but having a good plan for the latter is important.

#

Like 'This is an artifact about Doing Shaping Effects to Dudes' for Wyldflame etc

#

There's a lot of things a Fae Gun could do

#

But it focuses on shaping melting faces

fierce star
#

It has a bunch of weird adaptations to deal with surviving all the bullshit that are uh. Verging on heresy. Like cross trained sodalities.

spiral cosmos
#

this seems like martial arts mixing and maybe fate stuff for sids all blended through the five maidens together. stuff like a charm that cycles through each maiden for a benefit like the DB elements, effects that can activate in an MA form, bonuses to PAOC stuff or like a mote discount for when you blend multiple style charms together etc

#

ability to tag people with horoscopes in combat

#

yadda yadda

#

just food for thought, use it if it helps

prisma sun
#

Make the Mars one that you can reflexively enter the form of any MA you know on the caveat that you gain a Defining Principle that you must defeat this foe even if it kills you for the scene.

tulip folio
fierce star
#

Lmao

#

And responder had True Love with a dragon blooded, so.... You know. It'll be fun

spiral cosmos
#

ultimately you should just write what you feel would be good at your table

prisma sun
#

Okay wait actually borb you gave me the brain blast

#

Keyword that procs when you use two or more martial art styles in a single tick

tulip folio
#

Like two charms or do you mean swapping forms?

prisma sun
#

Two or more charms

spiral cosmos
#

gating an effect behind or having an effect benefit that stuff is good for mixing it up yeah

#

Spring in the Lotus Garden

prisma sun
#

Making it an addendum like Resonant

tulip folio
#

That sounds fun.

prisma sun
#

Harmonious: When the wielder activates charms from two or more seperate martial arts styles in a single turn/tick/idkyet, they become Harmonious until the start of their next turn, gaining benefits while using this artifact.

tulip folio
#

The reason RiRi would go straight in the Heretic Smasher in another city: Her last heroic lifetime died during Erlik and she came out of the vats with the Apostate-Only Necromancy Charm instead of the Alch Sorcery Charm.

#

She has no clue why beyond the fact she's pretty sure Ku was involved and the GM says he's going to offer her Whispers at some point.

#

So you know: Only Good Things There

prisma sun
#

I should actually write down the general thematics of the Evocations first

#

I forgot that was a part of an Artifact's write up

marsh garden
#

it's...inconsistent

#

i think it's helpful

#

but neither sids nor abyssals have "this artifact's evos do blah blah" blurbs

prisma sun
#

Arms does and that's good enough for me

marsh garden
#

i think it's straight up just in like...many-faced strangers and some Arms gear

tulip folio
#

...I was writing up a thing about artifact design and realized I'd been writing 'themagics' repeatedly instead of thematics and now the not-word is stuck in my head.

prisma sun
#

Deebs too

#

And Infernals

spiral cosmos
#

i don't think it's more helpful than other things the wordcount could go to, usually

#

but you don't have to worry about wordcount limits with homebrew

marsh garden
#

not even most deeb artifacts

wise ocean
marsh garden
#

most of em just have their crunch

wise ocean
#

"you can keep this scythe around! its evocations take cues from"

tulip folio
#

My general thoughts is:

-Pick a Mechanical Area *or* a Thematic Area you want to play in.
-Filter that chosen area through the one you didn't pick as a lens to focus it down.

So if you picked out say 'I want to play with Sorcery', you'd then go 'Okay but lets focus it through the idea of Elementalism' and that helps narrow the broad concept into an area workable for an artifact.

#

If that's remotely coherent?

prisma sun
#

How broken would a "You can be in two forms at once" charm be for a 5 dot

marsh garden
#

uhhh

spiral cosmos
#

do not

#

do not do it

prisma sun
#

lmao

marsh garden
#

that's PAOC's big thing

spiral cosmos
#

i will beat you with a shoe

prisma sun
#

lmaoooooo

tulip folio
#

That's a notable chunk of one of the most notable SMA's most notable trick

marsh garden
#

so i wouldn't, except as an All MA All The Time artifact's e5 capstone

tulip folio
#

What I'd instead say is maybe 'Make swapping between two forms easier' rather than being in two at once.

marsh garden
#

oh yeah a ton of artifacts do that one

#

one in MFS, even, speaking of

tulip folio
#

So like maybe refund some of the form cost if you're already in a form so you're not losing 10 motes each time on mutually exclusive effects.

marsh garden
coral wraith
#

Oh hey Borb did you write Threnody Engine?

prisma sun
#

I think yeah, I would rather have reflexive form shifts

coral wraith
#

I love that artifact

wise ocean
#

speaking of maiden scriptures and artifacts

tulip folio
#

I'm gunna need to double check that

prisma sun
#

They do

marsh garden
#

i was told that a form's committed motes transfer to another form

wise ocean
#

ratsmoke I have to finish the other half of this 5* eventually

prisma sun
#

You always get a refund

marsh garden
#

and looking up has seemed consistent with that

prisma sun
#

You only pay the difference if there's more

tulip folio
#

Huh, for some reason I'd not known that.

marsh garden
#

so if you go from 10 -> 7 you lose the 3

wise ocean
#

yep, you carry over the motes

coral wraith
#

You don't get a refund per se

tulip folio
#

I guess I just didn't have characters that swap forms much

marsh garden
#

and if you go 7 -> 10 you pay the 3

coral wraith
#

But the motes spent transfer, basically

marsh garden
#

but you're not spending 7 then 10 then 7 then 10

coral wraith
#

Yeh

tulip folio
#

In that case I'd maybe go with 'extra ways to reflexively swap forms' could be fun

#

So you've got the inbuilt form one and then one from the artifact.

marsh garden
#

Shadow Moth Raiment is an easy one to steal

tulip folio
#

To let you bounce about more

marsh garden
#

if you just want to steal one

#

...or you could just like

#

take the shadow moth raiment lmao

tulip folio
#

Stealing is Good. I steal evocations all the time. XD

marsh garden
#

it's a very dippable evocation

#

i try not to, because i'm trying to learn system mastery from making artifacts

#

emphasis on trying

prisma sun
#

When a wielder uses charms from two separate Martial Arts styles in a single turn, they become Harmonious for the remainder of the turn. If a martial artist is in a form, that counts as a charm towards Harmonious.

The Five Fingers count as an applicable form weapon for any martial arts that do not originate from enemies of Fate. ```
marsh garden
#

funnily enough, hungry ghost is probably viable

coral wraith
#

fuck you devil prince

prisma sun
#

Let's find out

marsh garden
#

origin "unclear, but probably randos"

prisma sun
#

"Fuck you Ablicant Sepuchlr you ain't even a real sma"

spiral cosmos
#

didnt do artifacts on that book

tulip folio
#

I'd be a bit careful with 'applicable with multiple styles that are not normally usable together'. That's a very nice boost, especially for unarmed-only styles

#

That normally need POAC to get artifact statlines

marsh garden
#

ah, yeah, artifact unarmed is pretty pricey aiui

#

and pretty high-essence

spiral cosmos
#

i'm not sure this is worth a keyword

#

that tends to be for stuff that's so ubiquitous you'd have it across like an entire charm set

#

if you think it saves space then go for it tho

prisma sun
#

Artifacts seem to like having their own keywords that show up occassionally and I do enjoy the vibe

limpid badge
#

see im thinking about artifacts for my girlies and im not sure i even wanna do armor-evos for the Battle-Ballgown im thinking about as Medium Artifact

marsh garden
#

they like keywords if they use em a lot

#

you could just do an attunement and then one e1 evo and call it done

limpid badge
tulip folio
#

I'm still very pleased with the one I gave the Banner of the Balorian Crusade.

#
Evocations of the Banner of the Balorian Crusade
Some charms of this artifact refer to 'Champions of Shape'. Champions of Shape are shapers of the Wyld or those with direct connections to the Primordials who imposed the sin of shape upon the Wyld to craft creation. This includes Primordials, Solars, Abyssals, Infernals, Getimians, Alchemicals, Demons and Machine Spirits as well as any character carrying Iron.
spiral cosmos
#

i don't think artifacts do keywords much but they do like their little gimmick mechanics

#

i've seen that show up as resource notation

#

oh, to be a little artifact and not have my own bespoke resource

tulip folio
#

Yeah. I did it for the Banner mostly because I wasn't writing 'Solaroids, Alchemicals, Gets, Demons and Machine Spirits' each time a charm cared for it. XD

spiral cosmos
#

although

#

i might be thinking of this too literally

#

because you say artifact keyword and i think of something that goes into the Keywords section like decisive-only, resonant

#

and not like. a bespoke designation

#

because there are ten million of those

prisma sun
#

Yeah

#

Like craven intimacies or gore units or shit like that

tulip folio
#

Also: Look at my cute little charm tree. Making visual charm trees for your artifacts is very fun.

spiral cosmos
#

craven intimacies 😒

prisma sun
#

How you gonna have beef with cravens......

tulip folio
#

Craven is like...90% 'fear' and 10% 'stuff that isn't fear'.

#

I don't hate it but it's mostly 'Intimacies of Fear' in how it's treated/works

spiral cosmos
#

craven just makes me think of Kraven

coral wraith
prisma sun
#

Okay so I think this new direction has given me a better grasp of how to do things and really honing in on MA Enabler into big finish

#

I think I am keeping "Sororal Confluence: Fivepoints Achieve Fate's Decree" in some respect

bleak hazel
#

Knowing Drifts' build he doesn't seem like he needs a bunch of massively fiddly evos anyway, you already have fifty different martial arts to use in parallel

#

I'm wondering if I should allow someone to make multiple Virtue vows at once with this armour just to see the incredible spectacle of someone who can't retreat, can't pursue, can't kill and can't do a secret fourth thing because Conviction is tricky, but I suspect the answer is "no"

wise ocean
#

can't admit you're wrong
