Anyone can summon the Kukla if they can beat up the guards
Sids can get an easy 2, not sure about any more
I don't think Summon Elemental goes that high
Sids can get 3
I think by pretending to be a Deeb they can turn into one with Mela's Coils
Summon Elemental caps at Essence 3, yeah
Summon Elemental is more Create Elemental right?
Clearly you can get an E5 one out of it of you wait long enough
Essence Induction Technique (hissssss) is basically that
If you make an elemental Essence 5 do they automagically become a dragon
I don't think so, I think dragons might actually start at 6 or so?
Is it elemental dragons are high essence elementals but not all high essence elementals are elemental dragons? Though certainly seems like most are?
Any high essence elemental automatically transmogrifies into a dragon
I wonder if it's like a Chrysalis or they slowly get longer and more dragon like over time
Or is there Kafkaesque literature about how awkward it is to wake up one day as a dragon
I do not know if they ever inked it out
It's for the best
In fact, it's mentioned that a lot of older lesser elemental dragons deliberately avoid getting stronger because if they do they'll end up as unstoppable forces of nature who need to be sealed in volcanos or whatever
Being the Kukla is considered undesirable
lmao my gm told me 'look you can send the nephwrack a letter'
'I won't even make you roll but he'll respond telling you to fuck yourself'
yea sounds about right
Also I'm struck by how much a Moonshadow sorcerer would just be
Dr. Facilier
down to 'shaking a poor sinner's hand'
I've already tricked a guy into swearing an oath in our game yeah
bro didn't read the core book
LMAO
No embodiment of the void smh
You dont have the automatic respect of nephwracks
Meanwhile the neverborn love my thighs
Love this guy he’s so fucked
embodiment of the void?
Sorry embodiment of the maw
Necromantic initiation
One of its perks you can by is getting automatic respect from every specter
And automatic fear from every ghost
Other Benefits
Marked by the Abyss (•): Ghosts instinctively recog-
nize the ceaseless hunger behind the necromancer’s
eyes. Typical ghosts count as having a Minor Tie of
fear towards her, while specters count as having a Tie
of respect or a similar positive emotion.
Get on that neverborn grindset
Ahhh
'every exalted type as described by dracula flow' is a thing that should exist
an acquaintance of mine has been working on this
they're doing god's work, misc
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and by the boys I mean the neverborn and by the yard I mean creation when I shove it into the underworld and by milkshake I mean a milkshake
Dracula flow for exalted would go hard
he's the exigent of warstriders that i've been on and off working on canonically a so--
actually
consider all his shitty digusies that fool everyone
might I suggest: Char Aznable, Chosen of War?
I feel like he could be an Infernal
content warning: Dracula Flow's usual pile of drugs, sex and scatology
Rie would like me to relay that this is annoyingly compressed to fit in Discord and doesn't have the Sids yet
Lion is especially perfect
as someone playing an iselsi: yeah
yongzheng would old bay seasoning everyone else with zero hesitation
everything here is perfect
WIP, I have flagged it in the patch notes
like a quarter of these were my idea that I suggested
I am claiming credit for a few as well
but it works very well in general
also great editing
the Old Bay Seasoner
Well, I've had an idea suddenly for something I want to an antagonist at some point, but.
It is a foolish idea, albeit funny. Take an exalt. Take a long cliff with dramatic pointed rocks at the bottom and maybe crashing waves. Introduce exalt to gravity.
You do not need to confirm they hit the bottom.
conveniently there is an NPC who has, as an explicit in-universe ability, "if you don't see the body he's not dead"
Wonderful.
I love that guy because he's absolutely useless in 90% of fights
so his best tactic in most risky situations it to run desperately for the nearest implausibly long fall or burning building and throw himself at it
corebook npcs be like
Wounded Lion Strength is kind of a weird charm for sids, considering how they don't generally take a lot of wound penalties
...is this name too extra for an Integrity/Wits charm that lets you spend some aggravated health levels to defend against a social attack? 'A Bleeding Heart Still Beats'
No such thing as too extra
Cool. Just setting up some Basic Social Defence charms, with the Wanderer's general theme there being Hope and Trust.
I do worry a hair about thematic overlap with Sid Integrity but Sids mostly have hopeful intimacies so they can give them up and be sad that they had to sacrifice their dreams for their job, rather than those intimacies being supported that much. 😛
Also: God, keys are so good for helping bulk out the effective charm count without writing a fucktonne more charms.
As they let you make a charm broader/more generally usable to help cover bases but with a lot less writing/work.
Sid Integrity is so weird and fun
Pondering listing this exalt as Enemies of Fate but not Creatures of Darkness.
They're wyld empowered but they're not fae and UCS hasn't ever called them Bad Guys...but they by their very nature are Fucking With The Loom Of Fate by going 'Okay, reality says that's what should happen but...wouldn't it be cooler if this happened instead?'
I gotta give 3e this: making Infernals into jobless celebrities is amazing for the way they foil against Sids
one of the players in the pbp I'm in is floating running a heptagram school Deeb game with our group
Enemies of Fate
With the Wyld flowing within their veins, their tendency to push narrative convention over the decisions of the Loom of Fate as well as several powers that actively defy dictates of the Bureau of Destiny, Wanderers are considered Enemies of Fate. Despite that, however, they are not Creatures of Darkness. They have no ties to the Yozi and are not Fae themselves, nor are they the vanguards of the dissolution of creation.
The Immaculate Faith makes no such distinction, calling them creatures of the Wyld or Fae Nobles despite the inaccuracy of such terms. A Wanderer who is sighted blatantly making pattern spiders cry can expect no more quarter from the Wyld Hunt than any Solar or Lunar could.
Thinking about stealing Warstrider Evocations with Four Magical Materials Form
Vaidurya is a hell of a drug
I keep staring at Vaidurya's charms and going 'Put them on an alch, put them on an alch' in the back of my mind.
Being able to just Boogie Woogie at-will with an Alch would be very fun.
Now tbf one could argue that warstrider evocations wouldn't really work with FMMF, because of the way those evocations specify the warstrider doing something
But still
Oh damn
Yeah, sids have some big tricks.
That's a crazy force-multiplier
Sid shit is silly
Yeah, it just continues the theme of seeing something wild every time I open up the Charm section
Sid Larceny is one of my favorite charmsets for them and I like their charmsets a lot.
The ability to walk up to someone go 'Can I have your name?' and then just take it never makes me fail to laugh.
I've had a sid use it as a very 'I am making a statement' introduction.
Where they walked up to an Abyssal and stole their Abyssal Name, leaving them just their birth name.
YEAH
im looking at initiations for my infernal and what if mara was is its sugar mommy because >Infernal >Loves Ebbie.
Hahahah
...hmm...I'm back to debating if the Wanderer 'individual mechanical thing' is interesting enough. It's not designed to be like 'Lunar Shapechanging' big but it's supposed to matter a bit.
Basicly: Every Wanderer has a special intimacy called a Touchstone. A place that, emotionally, matters to them. That location has 3 elements linked to it and you're attuned to 1 of those 3 at any given point, getting bonuses based on it.
Air Touchstones
Stormborn: The Wanderer is immune to wind, cold- and lightning-based environmental hazards.
Air of Friendship: Air Elementals, Gods with Storm Domains and Messengers of all sorts unconsciously recognise the Wanderer as kin, which can be leveraged as a Minor Tie of trust and respect. If they would already have such a Tie due to the base benefit of the Touchstone, it can instead be leveraged as a Major Tie.
Wind’s Embrace: The Wanderer suffers no penalties for mist and wind or lack thereof. She can fire an arrow through a hurricane, track a foe through thick mists or sail a becalmed ship with no issues.
So for example, while you're attuned to Air you get this.
They're generally in the form of 'environmental hazard immunity' + 'Social Bonus' + 'Extra Bonus'
Wyld Touchstones
Unchanging Paths: The Wanderer is Immune to Wyld Exposure.
Through the Looking Glass: Fae, Storytellers and Wyld Mutants unconsciously recognise the Wanderer as kin, which can be leveraged as a Minor Tie of trust and respect. If they would already have such a Tie due to the base benefit of the Touchstone, it can instead be leveraged as a Major Tie.
Kaleidoscopic Self: The Wanderer is much less affected by Shaping effects she suffers. While they cosmetically still have their effects (A Wanderer shaped into a duck is still duck-shaped, while one who's history has been changed will remember the new history alongside her old one), they will not kill her or prevent her taking actions she could normally take, though it may impose some amount of penalty (Such as a difficulty reaching the top shelf or being taken seriously in court as a duck).
A Wanderer who becomes attuned to the Wyld has her existing shaping effects become cosmetic, like those she suffered while attuned to the Wyld. Shaping effects cannot prevent her becoming attuned to the Wyld, even if they would otherwise prevent her taking any other actions.
Not all of the elements are just normal elemental ones. They've got options for Death, Wyld etc.
But I'm kinda debating if touchstones are well...interesting.
i think its really good if Mara is just like. someone who visits the Feasting Hall that my Layabout Prince has her name from, as i cook.
Example Touchstones
Merlin’s Tower
A massive tree within a vibrant flower field, where locals claim that the Elemental Dragons of Wood once bound a great Fey. She remembers the flower festival, as the carefully arrayed rows of plants are tended to during cultivation each year. She remembers the taste of sticky sweets and the laughter of townsfolk as they worked.
Tie: Joyful Love
Metaphysical Alignments: Wood, Wyld, Heaven
Lookshy’s District of Justice
A cruel joke of a name for a titanic pyramidal bright-indigo crystal grown out of the earth. She remembers the cold nights and the endless silence of the solitary confinement cells. She remembers the empty eyes of those broken, advocates for the Helots and those who refused military service.
Tie: Fearful Hatred
Metaphysical Alignments: Death, Air, Earth
The two examples I wrote up.
like hey what if one of your regular patron just teaches you magic
'I'm being supported by the power of patreon...sorry, patron'
exactly exactly
But yeah, the intent was that it's a less 'directly combat' bonus and more just some passive bonuses that people will like having, especially the social one giving some versatile innate ties.
But I worry not being combat-heavy like Lunar Shapechanging or Infernal Demon Forms, it might end up a bit minor and 'don't super care about this'.
chat am i cooking
This is pretty funny:
'Go to hell'
I like touchstones. If you want them beefier maybe some charms get strong upgrades from certain elements?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u_jyiQs6qoImblxa6s5YiTLNGOhVFS6qbRCQeCIFzyc/edit?usp=sharing Tinkered with the wording. How's this seem?
Touchstones As eternal travelers, Wanderers are unbound to the places they visit but buoyed up by the connections to places and people they meet within them. Even if they only visit a place briefly, it can leave a mark upon them as they carry it within their memories. These take the form of a Tou...
It also means I can make statements like "Kim Kardashian is an Infernal" with a straight-ish face
Even if you don't really want to lean into the thefts-and-crimes stuff specifically, between the anti-wyld charm, maiden-in-the-pot, shell games, the heaven/hell teleportation charm, the "break into sanctums" charm, and the "imma steal your charm" charm, it feels like a very solid investment.
I love the Oblivion Guard Wrongwarp charm
'I've committed a crime, off to jail I go!'
Go directly to jail. Pass go. Collect $200.
I kinda really want to use it as an escape from combat one day.
Like just go full saturday morning cartoon villian.
I had to fit Creation-Smuggling Approach and Shell Games onto Red Evening Sky, Because Reasons.
'Yes, it was me! I did it! I <Tells the other guy crimes>...and being a Zenith, you're a priest!' teleports to heaven jail
Anys Syn apparently had her train by holding a horse stance under a wyldfall or something
The more I look at Mantis Style, the more I like it
Crystal Chameleon is also extremely cool
It's a very cool style.
The only downside I can see is that all of the pieces don't quite fit together unless in the form
Simply because without the form, you can't do stealth at burning or bonfire
So using it as an entry to SMAs isn't quite perfect
Magma Kraken fans stay winning, there's a Sail charm that lets you conjure tentacles from any body of water
it functions slightly differently though(from my reading, you'd use your own brawl pools for the tentacles instead of using occult like with magma kraken)
it does explicitly call out using blood spilled on a battlefield as the source for a tentacle(also a cup of tea), but i think you'd have to persuade a gm to let you sprout a tentacle within or on an enemy's body
a non-trivial enemy at least
there's also a charm for being Blackbeard and enticing people with rumors of a secret treasure you hid somewhere
okay yeah someone needs to remind the devs that the human body is 70% water, because there's another charm that lets you turn 'all liquid within medium range' into acid
Skullstone: "I don't like where this is going..."
and there's absolutely no clarification on if blood within a living being counts for any of these charms
so as-is this is just an instant 'i win' charm
(you're immune to this acid, as are allies with a specific charm or ties of loyalty to you)
I really like that infernal Occult charm to 1/adventure ignore the exp cost for sorcerous workings.
Really makes it a much more usable tool
also Karen you may enjoy the Ride and Sail charms, there's Ride charms for turning a mortal or 1CD into a mount and granting them mutations of obviously demonic nature in the process, and Sail charms for summoning aquatic life(including potentially things with legendary size with an upgrade) and being able to communicate with them
Holy shit???
are there any sword-based sidereal martial arts?
Not in Exalted!
Not yet
Gotcha
Although any sid who enters an SMA through melee can do so
With Maiden-on-the-Shelf-Enlightenment
IIRC we are expected to get some sword SMAs in the near future
I'm asking for very hypothetical future deeb reasons (they're going to possibly gain a Sidereal master through excelling in the Heptagram school as a sorcerer and martial artist)
Fun fact: back in 2e, DBs who tried to use SMA charms had a tendency to, er
Explode
It wasn't just that they couldn't do it
The lore was specifically that they went kaboom
I can't imagine being a Deeb in 2e was fun
They cannot
Oh well maybe the sid is just 'you're really fucking ambitious kid good for you'
Can Lunars or Alchemicals SMA?
Cuz being a dedicated martial artist while also at the Heptagram is probably uh
intense
Anys Syn's whole character back in 2e was trying to teach one specific Deeb who was the greatest martial artist to maybe do SMAs which would potentially take out the main temple of the Immaculate Faith
if they did explode
deebs reach their max martial arts potential via the Dragon Styles, which are a little cooler than your average terrestrial martial art
and also allow you to use their techniques to improve other MAs
Most people can't
I don't even think Solars should tbh
oh huh
Sids, Solars/Abyssals/Infernals/Getimians is your SMA-capable list
Abyssals even have their own SMA
Solaroids can learn them from sids, but cannot use them to their full potential
personally I think Infernals shouldn't have 'em like they used to but it's not a huge deal since that's literally 50 people
Yeah, in 2e Infernals had no SMAs but had easier access to sorcery
Sids are the only ones who can learn them from first principles or just invent them, so if there were no sids nobody would have SMAs
Which I would have preferred they keep
Getimians can use them at full power but have limits on their ability to mix them
Though, it's probably harder to get a sid to teach you as an infernal than as a solar
It is, amusingly, explicitly possible to learn SMAs by getting one's ass kicked
Abyssals also need to go to the one guy who knows that MA to learn it, they can't first-principles that one either
Yeah, because Sids are inherently designed to be sifus, them just mollywhopping a Solar can have the Solar learn how to do SMAs.
If you fight a sid, and you see the charm, and you could use the charm in principle, you can learn the charm.
and among all the non-Sidereal exalts you run into the restriction of not many of them actually being martial artists of sufficient power to use the charms once they see them
since any combat Sid can go SMA but Melee/Brawl/Archery/Thrown solaroids can't, they need to specifically be E3 and have their MA investment at a certain point
Her rework makes her a lot more interesting
She was so boring before
But yeah, for DBs, they can bypass the limit of the Terrestrial tag using a dragon style
I like new Syn yeah
Anyway Crystal Chameleon is outlandishly cool
And feels natural to mix with Ebon Shadow
It also has some nice Centipede tech
good 'ol disco ninja style
what sword art would be a best fit for a water deeb with a jian
Uhhhhh
Hm. If you're doing sword stuff, you're not going to be able to mix that super well with Water Dragon, so terrestrial will be more of an issue.
Violet Biers can work pretty well
though yeah you won't be able to use Water Dragon charms along with a sword unfortunately
and you do probably want some Water Dragon to cheat the Terrestrial keyword
you can do unarmed, yes
But you can't combo
just not combo on the sword attacks, yes
I think style weapons are broadly okay, it mostly only gets fiddly when you combine different MA
when you have Single Point and Steel Devil next to each other, it's pretty obvious 😛
Does Water Dragon have any good movement charms? If so, I think you could just use those
If you're down for using hook swords, there's a shitload of really good martial arts that have them as form weapons
Oh, Fire Dragon does use short swords, that might be usable even for a water DB with some finagling
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E6_FjrM9JeQiVtmj2hSqN6JyJpCGbdZLNX12elvdRUk/edit?gid=812356597#gid=812356597 Here's a list btw
Of this and a bunch of other stuff
https://theonyxpath.com/agents-of-heaven-preview-1-the-even-blade/ Even Blade, of course, if thou hast not seen it
My hot take is the opposite in that they should have had MA be for any sort of combat style, ha
If you really want to focus on it and diversify a lot, it effectively is strictly unarmed
Razor claws, hook swords, seven-section staffs, and knives get a lot of styles, but
Hmm, I do find it weird that MAs can combo with each other (instead of the core abilities). But I don't know how much it actually comes up
The main thing is I feel like what you do is make weapons solvable (moreso than they already kinda are)
I am surprised there are no hook-sword SMAs honestly
they have this really robust regular MA family but no upgrades
I'm not sure what you mean
I think I misunderstood "there should be an MA for every weapon" vs "every weapon should be usable for every style"
Seven-section staff remains the king of MA
There's a version of Exalted out there in a parallel universe where instead of martial arts specifically there are "secret arts," packages of cool abilities that use the MA format but can be related to any number of things rather than always being about punching.
Well, there probably should be MAs such that all weapons are covered. But I mean that even stuff like how Realm Legionnaires fight should be an MA
It's an interesting parallel universe to think about
Yeah, this is the further extension
There's something very wuxia about the art of punching a guy in the face somehow being the highest form of achievement, but yeah.
It does feel a little silly sometimes.
I'm mostly affected by the a podcast that had one of the devs. Where they were talking about the current form of MAs is a bit Orientalist
Honestly I would way rather there just be splat-less charms usable with different abilities
that'd be sick
Secret Art: Steal All The Blood Out Of Your Body
That's more-or-less what I'm talking about, yeah
But I am at least content with the current state of MAs.
I do think there should probably be ways to discount the ability cost to mix a bunch of them, but
It's paying for versatility
MAs can cover a lot of ground
I think it's a bit tricky to balance cross-splat stuff with how splats feel
Yeah
It would be harder to do if MAs were more conceptually universal.
Oh, btw, I have yet to look myself but I'm hearing that apparently Infernal Sail is turning out to be the big winner
Charms usable for basically everything
Oh, mildly surprised so long for the devs to pull off that trick. Benefit of hindsight here though
don't the keywords need to match for it to be effective during combat since if you use a lot charms you enter your element's aura?
If you get to bonfire anima, specifically
Hence finagling
Water is actually extremely favorable to martial artist deebs for the simple reason that razor claws are extremely well-represented across multiple styles.
But that's less useful if you want to sword
lol
The big reason to pick up a dragon style is a clause that lets you sacrifice an aura matching that style in order to ignore the Terrestrial tag for one tick
But you need to know the Form charm for the style in question
So picking up 4-5 charms you wouldn't really use just to accomplish that is somewhat burdensome
Maybe there's some way to leverage the sword + empty hand style of Even Blade for this
I dunno
Aha
Yeah, then you wouldn't be picking this up immediately anyway
I'd look at Even Blade and Violet Bier of Sorrows for generalized sword martial arts
That, or use Melee
Even Blade Time
I like Radiant Breath a lot, personally
Big vertical cut
But Garda Talon might have some way to get unusual style mixes, since you have one empty hand and do a bunch of grappling
I was actually thinking Immanent Steel
either that or do winter songbird
and have the sheath be a magic stave type thing
I do find forms often being E2 weird
It's specifically for the dragon styles
There are a couple of E2 forms in other styles
But all of the dragon styles have E2 forms
Probably because they want Deebs to be able to get them up to the form charms but keep them away from other starting characters by default
Could not tell you why Crane has an E2 form charm tho >_>
I was also thinking of the Righteous Devil Style. Because it made a character concept of mine long ago mildly sad
what other style has good grappling?
Mantis maybe?
Quite a few. Mantis and Bear are particular standouts
I'm not sure the mixing actually does work, to be clear
Oh, gkathellar: you were complaining about the use of febrile in Infernals. I also give you using "hale" to mean "draw forcibly" in Investigation as being weird
It's listed as an "archaic" usage in the dictionary lol
you know i will take super archaic words rather than slapping some vaguely "eastern" words together tbh
like. this is a marked improvement.
same
do you really wanna read "mantra" or "atemi" every five words. i will take the archaic english i really will.
getting a bit weird and old w/it is the infinitely preferable option
can you combine charms from different martial arts that add to a savaging attack?
if both MA are unarmed compatible, it should work I think
or compatible with whatever you use to grapple I guess
That's a tag right?
ye
🤔 can you use decisive charms on savaging attacks in general or do you have to use special Savage only ones for it?
I mean most of the chosen style (Garda Talon) focuses on augmenting grapple attacks like savaging and slams specifically
anything that modifies the damage roll of a decisive should still work I think
The Infernal charms where the Infernal does stuff without even realizing it are pretty funny. I think you can steal a hidden enemies sword and then stab them with it and not be aware that anything has happened
if you can find a grappling style that works with swords, it works
most don't, however
since mechanically you are using Weapon:Sword, so unarmed styles will not be compatible
Also I came up with a good name for my Fae Not!Exalted
Instead of the "Chosen" they are the "Plucked"
Also Meteor Exalted does appeal since they are based off wishes
I did come up with a homebrew exalt type idea one time, it was because I was reading the core book and they mentioned some awful thing on an island near the blessed isles that could corrupt dragon blooded exaltations
Yeah, savaging is still an attack, essentially
This seems kind of amazing for sids in particular
What with their various ways to fuck with target numbers and reduce number of dice/successes rolled on damage
Because attacks with light weapons are more accurate but less damaging, while attacks with heavy weapons or more damaging but less accurate
Would it be correct to state that strength builds work better with light weapons and dexterity builds work better with heavies?
Because those flat bonuses are overall more useful to them
Honestly, both builds are basicly the same thing there.
As generally you won't have a combat character with only dex or only strength
Also: Heavy Melee requires a minimum of 3 strength to use.
So you can't go Str 1 + Greatsword
Accuracy is only for withering attacks right?
yeaah
I think combat builds basically need Dex because of that. Unless you have a stat swapping charm
Verdigris Blaze of Royalty Style
Before there was Demon City, there was Theion: imperious, unbending, powerful and glorious, King of the Primordials. It was Theion whose ribs the first exalted cracked open, to bend him and twist him into a parody of himself, and so what had been Theion became Malfeas. He has not forgotten who he was: if he had, how could he hate what he has become? Core to him is this memory, which calls itself Ligier, the Green Sun himself, and who is to Malfeas the living certainty that Theion would despise and pity the Yozi he has become. In Ligier is whatever remains of Theion: his power, certainty, and grandeur.
That grandeur is incarnate in this style, through which passion and fearless certainty become waves of raw, burning essence that burn away any truth but their own. Its movements begin in imitation of Ligier’s beautiful dance of self-expression and violence, which grows through gouts of mutagenic green flame into something more like the awful, reptilian majesty of that cruel and ancient monster-king, the paradigmatic tyrant lizard that once broke the back of the world. That which it does not subordinate, it annihilates, or leaves irrevocably changed.
The Verdigris Blaze of Royalty is not a style which yet exists. Ligier is among the greatest martial artists to ever exist, but he simply is what this style would imitate. Under the right circumstances, his tutelage could lead a sidereal pupil to discover this style, a reflection of his cosmic principle of power and domination at the flower of the perfected lotus. That it even can exist might, under those circumstances, be a testament to the finality of Theion’s passing. The king of the monsters is dead, and Ligier is his tombstone, but the sidereal who invents this style would honor his place in the order of the world.
Form Weapons: Compatible with tetsubo, maces, axes, clubs, which it wields with grace, and knives and razor claws, which it makes implements of brutality.
Thinking
If it’s not clear I am imagining this as equal parts Ligier and Godzilla
Or maybe more like Ligier turning into Godzilla
@tulip folio RiRI has competition
RiRi: Goes apostate with the implication that one of the divine ministers likes honey rats more than her
It's a rat that's been mutated to produce honey
RiRi wants to import them so much
autocthonia is all robot except for Humans and Rats
who live inside :3
I’m amazed
hello my dog stirred me from slumber and I am realizing I forgot to show you BeaMu's intimacies Karen
Holy shit?????
She’s so fucking cute I love her ❤️
Can she get hugs
yes she loves hugs
the unity in question she cannot violate
she doesn't consciously remember the contents, but she can't willfully violate it
Now, if you see that philosophy and go 'hey, this seems kinda fascist'...welcome to estasia!
she’s a beautiful idiot and im going to fix her
please someone fix her it's so easy if you try
Also: one of my friends autocorrect keeps changing their posts to Equestria whenever they write estacia and it's so fucking funny.
Darkest Sky Deception
Cost: 3m; Mins: Manipulation 2, Essence 1
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: None
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None
Grinning an infuriating grin, the Wanderer poisons her words, driving her foe into a rage to prove her wrong.
The Wanderer doubles 9s on a bargain or persuade roll.
Her targets they can’t use Negative Intimacies based towards the Wanderer or groups she belongs to to bolster their Resolve against her influence or resist it in a Decision Point.
Also tinkering with Wanderer charms. Finally got this sorted with a solid wording.
The intent is very Brer Rabbit 'Oh no, please don't throw me in that there briar patch'.
They can use any intimacy to resist, except for 'I won't do it purely because you want me to' ones.
And cockroaches!
Firedust Gospel
Cost: 1m; Mins: Dexterity 3, Essence 1
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Uniform
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None
As long as there are those who wish to be released from tyranny, the Wanderer shall not lack for ammunition.
The Wanderer can make an attack with an Archery weapon without needing ammunition (including firedust), forming her shot from hopes and dreams. The Wanderer may choose to make damage from this attack Bashing, instead of its normal damage type.
Keys:
Prayer Piece Symphony: The Wanderer can use this charm to reflexively reload weapons with the Slow tag. This makes such weapons compatible with magic that creates multiple attacks as long as she reloads for each attack.
Devil Casting Crescendo(Essence 2): For a 4 mote surcharge, this charm's duration becomes One Scene.
How's this seem? The 'shoot without using ammo' charms are pretty standard but I tried to give it a hair of flavour by letting you automatically downgrade damage to Bashing so you can always take people alive. Also giving it more of a 'gun' theme instead of the normal arrow theme most have.
I like it!
It’s such a shame that getting a cool monstrous bossfight transformation requires being at like, essence 5 for an abyssal ;-;
Gatekept from my cool boss form
Thats what apocalyptic is for
No no you can’t skip sorcery/necromancy initiation circles ;-;
Ahhhh necromancy
Yeah
Oh
suckerrr
It’s a void circle necromancy spell, alas
…unless there’s another “get a cool boss form” charm
Get Ally 5 and have them be a necromancer and have them cast it on you
But yeah Voy is right in the sense that this is what Supernal/Apocalyptic is for and the consensus is that it kinda sucks in practice
Which, shit, there might be
Infernal Keys are imo turning out to be a much better solution to the "what if we never get to high essence" problem.
Since for most things you can start doing whatever the thing is at Essence 1 or 2
Hmm
I've been reminded of my Auroral exalted project, and I'm trying to circle a square issue I'm having with them, that's kind of two fold
I'd like for them to be celestial-tier, attribute based, aspect based exalts, but the issues I'm having are thus:
One, I feel like given Aurora's description and the description of his Chosen, they should all have appearance favored
two, I'd like five aspects based on the directions of creation and the Auroras that they used to have before Aurora was killed (my explanation for why only the north has auroras now is becuase it's where he's buried), but with eight attributes to worry about if appearance is auto-favored, there's no clean way to split that among five if I go with the 'each one gets three' of alchemicals or the 'pick two out of three' from lunars
possibe solutions:
go ability-based instead but let them have a favored attribute discount for buying appearance with XP?
Give each aspect more than three attributes to pick from but only let them pick two, plus one favored plus appearance? Would need to do the math to figureo ut how many it needs to be such that everything's even.
Other?????
An initial charm thought. I feel like this is definitely too much, honestly.
Cost: ?
Mins: Martial Arts 1, Essence 3
Type: Reflexive
Keywords: Enlightenment, Uniform
Duration: Until next turn
Prereqs: None
As the stylist takes the first steps of Ligier's flowing dance, she directs the entirety of her essence into her anima, calling forth a torrent of coiling green flame.
The stylist gains the following benefits, which expire after she goes an entire turn without using Wrathful Viridian Demon Dance.
⦁ Her anima instantly rises to bonfire at no cost, and cannot be reduced. 1a or 2a anima costs for charms and other effects are waived entirely. 3a costs instead cost 5 motes.
⦁ The blinding green flame of her will imposes a -1 penalty on any roll to affect her, even should it come from an ally.
⦁ She may attack out to short range, and her attacks do aggravated damage. She inflicts (Essence or 3) dice of post-soak Withering and decisive damage with all of her attacks.
Enlightenment: If the stylist has an intimacy of contempt, hatred, dislike, pity, or disdain for a creature, the penalty to effect her is increased to -(Intimacy) for social or mental rolls. In addition, whenever she deals withering or decisive damage, she can make a reflexive threaten roll with ([Charisma or Appearance] + Performance) against that enemy.```
I assume that enlightenment effect is "the penalty for that creature to affect her" not just in general
"I really hate that worm, -4 on all social rolls for everyone"
Yes
In a larger sense, I think for the pre-form charms, Wrathful Viridian Demon Dance is a precondition for using any of them, and then one of the things the form charm does is keep it on without having to use it again every turn
Hm.
Something clicked with solars for me.
I think it’s very very cool that they very much fell into being awful awful terrible tyrants, because it means being a Solar has you inherit the baggage of the last version of you.
…and that’s a fun angle for me.
5 aspects, 8 attributes, I tink... 4 should be even? No, actually... I think thi sis an array problem I suck at arrays...
Were you here for the only Solar character concept I've had and liked since becoming a Solar-hater?
Nope
I joined this thread like a week ago
I just sorta really love baggage from your past
@lament owl dreamer type shit
#1161699000836165714 message
Yeah!!!!!!!
(This is a real Gregory Berrycone moment)
Oooo
Hey it’s a gregory berrycone we both comprehend
But it’s shorthand for the shit I love
Essence 1 first age solar who thinks solars are bastards
“Ah shit I’m getting flashbacks”
“Oh?”
“Yeah wow this is one of my mass graves in a past life”
“one of???”
“…yeah.”
Fun fact: past-life memories for solars are pretty spotty and inconsistent, but because the yozis don't understand the significance of death and don't bother to clean the exaltations in between uses, Infernals remember their past lives much, much better.
Including their first age past lives as solars, to be clear
Basically because the Yozis don't wash their hands.
My Solar OC was built partially from the perspective of how he might be a villan in a dragon blooded game
Bureaucracy supernal, social charms, war as his main combat skill Eclipse Solar who’s father was a member of the mortal political class of the realm that got fucked after the emperess left and wants to use his status as an anathema with actually a decent amount of ingrained power to try and manipulate things to put more focus on the mortal political class
They're pretty expert in the subject, they probably could if they thought it was important
Well I more mean
Lots of memory duplication between all the souls
Oh, you mean for them personally
So it tracks that their exalts should remember everything too >_>
Do exaltations go through the lethe? Or who/what is responsible for cleaning them of memories?
My abyssal’s past life might have actually been a good-ish person.
Or at least…died at peace.
It’s very funny that the exaltation is corrupted into this bitch
Like
I feel like part of the hype of solars for me is more Solar anathema than Solar exalted, if that makes any sense
“Ancient God King” as a Monster Of The Week akin to the Sinister Shapeshifters
That is true
I don't think they've gone into this in 3e, but in 2e it was noted that the Primordials were part of the normal machinery of death, and that used souls got cleaned by passing through them. Part of the reason the Underworld arises is that the machine is essentially jammed with pieces of itself (the Neverborn), and part of the reason is that the Primordials aren't eating souls anymore.
exaltations don't go through lethe, they either dissipate (DB) or get washed by lytek (all other), but some exigents are special cases, gets just spontaneous manifest so who the fuck knows there and frankly I have no idea about liminals
Lytek is the god of exaltations
Hey!!!
They eat the ones I feed em
He doesn't issue them
no, but he's responsbile for cleaning them in between uses in his cabinet
unless that changed in ex3
But he does track and clean them, yeah
yeah I was talking about what happens to them after the exalt dies and the upper and lower souls go down to the underworld/lethe
He's got incredibly robust records of every celestial exalt ever
Oh, Lytek is probably worse at washing souls than the primordial made mass soul laundromat (even if the latter is a bit broken)
It’s working great
It adds character
The giant cities of the dead
Spices the place up!
He also, uh, has some personal hobbies that probably get in the way of fully washing them lol
Hey, most souls move on. It's fine
Also to be fair didn’t like, all the Solar exaltations get heisted?
That might make record keeping and proper sanitation difficult
Only half. Unless you count the original Jade Prison
yeah but the ones that didnt' get stolen returned to Lytek first, and he took his time polishing them and letting them go before telling the rest of heaven
all of em got locked away and then half of em heisted after the fact
"It is with great pleasure to inform you that the Solar Exalted have returned." wa shis message iirc
Lytek is heaven's biggest exalted fan
Do you think Lytek is upset at the corrupted solar exaltations primary because it interferes with his record keeping?
type shit
Don’t worry it can get worse ❤️
Hahahahhahaha
He's not just a bureaucrat, the dude actually likes his job a lot
Because he gets to write reports about ninjas fighting
Sids who want to get on his good side have a relatively straightforward time of it
Haven't they like, tried to boot him upstairs sevearl time sand he's outright refused the promotions
IIRC yeah
Exalted story arc where Lytek hires the party to make deals with Hell and the Underworld to keep, keeping track of the corrupted exaltations and interview them or at least get autographs
That would actually be rad
That would be sick
also if you go talk to Lytek after doing cool things as a Sid he will sometimes just go "hey man I saw what you did in that awesome kung fu duel, that was great, let me introduce you to [other exalt]", he is one of my favourite choices for 4 dot bureau backing
I think he's Bureau of Heaven?
which means the Bureau of Heaven has exactly one good god working for it
Honestly that would be such a funny Sids game
Waving my Sidereal martial arts in front of these solaroids like a dog toy
Mean to…I haven’t read the Sid book yet
The Bureau of Heaven is the biggest of the heavenly Bureaus by far and has eaten a lot of the tasks of other Bureaus in their ascendance to power
The Bureau of Destiny is basically untouchable to them, but the Bureau of Humanity in particular has been heavily cannibalized by them
The corruption problems in Heaven are ubiquitous, but they in particular are noted for them.
every god other than lytek that's part of the bureau of heaven's writeup is some form of bureaucratic asshole. Lytek is too but he's nice about it.
Ak-Lanir isn't too bad I guess? He's loyal and impossible to bribe... unless the bribe would help the bureau ofheaven's goals or political power
'corrupt but not self-interested' is how the book puts it
they
It is cool that there are enbies
sorry, I was going off of memory
The closest we have to a "good" Bureau is the Bureau of Seasons, which has a strong union culture
they do have the problem of, y'know, being Head Cop
The Bureau of Destiny is relatively okay
Is it heaven as a whole who backs the realm or just the bureau of destiny
heaven doesn't back anyone
Cus I do find it hilarious that “the realm has economic leverage over Heaven”
I mean
I’m lookin at 3e here
And given the history of the realm
My understanding is It's Complicated
Bronze faction is generally realm-positive
And I’m oversimplifying for the purpose of comedy
But
It sure does look like they’ve got the Mandate of Heaven
The big thing is that prayer is currency, and the Immaculate Faith on the one hand ensures regular stipends of prayer, but on the other hand limits the ability of gods to demand it.
the solars did too, until they didn't
Well yeah
But
That doesn’t negate me
Losing the Mandate of Heaven is just part of how the Mandate of Heaven works really.
Yeah it’s so fuckin funny
There are probably reasons a bunch of gods in heaven are realm-positive, but the realm doing well isn't quite the same thing as a mandate of heaven
I mean it does say, in 3e, that the immaculate order was created by sidereals
A lot of the bigger deities find this arrangement beneficial, whereas a lot of mid-rung deities do not, iirc
Though, it's kind of weird because the Immaculate prayer schedule should be popular with gods more down on their luck and less popular with powerful gods?
And the empress made it the empire’s state religion as a diplomatic action with heaven
Like it does say this
The problem is becuase the prayers are scheduled the bigger gods can tax them easier
Though maybe I'm overestimating the equality of the prayer schedule
it's a lot harder to get under the table prayers for doing Good Works when you only get X prayers on Y day legally
as always, it comes down to tax evasion
Bigger gods also get plenty of extra prayer anyway
Which strongly gives the impression that, even if heaven may not like the realm or something, they currently have vested interests in supporting it.
It is very complicated politically but that is what appears to be happening according to the very explicit lore I read in 3e
Ah, so poorly enforced prayer schedule
The Bureau of Destiny broadly backs the Realm, and has done so for more-or-less its whole history
no, the schedule is pretty well enforced, it's just that people are always going to pray outside of the schedule, because praying is sort of what mortals do
Nodnod
and they're going to be praying to Big Gods a lot more often than small ones
I guess it's also better for gods in heaven versus terrestrial gods since the latter could more easily convince people to worship them (by being more directly involved)?
But the Bureau of Destiny is (a) where the Sids are employed, and (b) in the business of specifically determining overall policy for what happens in Creation.
So they have a much more direct interest than most of Heaven, whose relationships with the Realm vary based on how much they benefit.
Yeah
Terrestrial gods are also much easier for an Immaculate to punch in the face
Though, broadly speaking, this does mean at the moment that the realm has the support of forces in heaven which…
Yeah.
I mean, so do most other things other than like, gets, lunars, and abyssals
the solars do have the whole gold faction
(and infernals I suppose now that they're allowed to exist again)
Haven’t solars only started showing up like
As of 768, though, the Bureau of Destiny is going through its own internal struggles re: policy
5 years ago
Yeah and the gold faction is already setting up cults about it
sidereals can move fast when they want to
Well they work fast
there were a few exaltations that escaped the purge, iirc the bull of the north was one of them
And yeah
I think the Bull of the North was more recent
the estimate was maybe a dozen solars in total that escaped yeah
but yeah the prison broke five years ago
bull is 'more recent' in that he's bene a solar for around a decade or so
I’m not like, saying heaven enthusiastically supports the realm universally or anything
Just
not the bull himself, just his exaltation
It is hilarious what the relationship is
yeah legit
But the thing with the Bull is that he totally fucked the BoD's plans
The realm has genuine real economic influence over heaven
Not total control but
If the realm does not like a god they can certainly affect their income
And now with the other disruptions they're less unified than they used to be
The golds were sort of a curiosity until 5 years ago
They existed, the Cult of the Illuminated existed
But they weren't actively feuding with the Bronze nearly as much
but eveyrthing changed when the fire nation attacked when the jade prison was heisted
Well the underworld also attacked soon after so
Actually close
:3
Would have been really awkward if they didn't drop it and lose half the souls lol
I mean
Hey
'waht if no solars but 200 abyssals and 100 infernals' is an inarguably healthier gaming experience for exalted players
We got the better deal over the infernals
If only
it wouldd be 200 infernalss and 100 aabyssals iirc
the deal was "Neverborn get 100 and the Yozi get the rest"
We got our share!
oh, I thought it was neverborn got 2/3rs and yozis 1/3rd, i didn't remember the details of the deal
Ha, DB as the primary protagonist faction would have made certain things pretty different, ha
I think it was only clearly 100 for the neverborn in 2e
In Infernals 3e they note that the Yozis didn't really ask for that many.
either way though still a much healthier gaming experience lol
Damn
I liked that the Yozi tried to do an advantageous deal annd ended up fumbling, felt like a Yozi moment
I'm okay with having 10-15 solars running around causing disruptions, but yeah
I do like Solars, like their mechanics could use some wprk but I don't mind em
I guess the Yozi don't really care if the Neverborn/Deathlords won and destroyed creation
and were just happy to be included
Maybe I’m just a new exalted player who hasn’t like, really gotten the full experience yet
But I don’t mind solars much either
oh solars are super cool thematically, but their mechanics have sick bones
It was more obnoxious in 2e aiui
To be fair, that's an Ebon Dragon moment. A yozi moment is just sort of fucking up
The whole family’s back together again!
My big issue with solars is that they have no connections to things
And yeah, 3e had the problem where they were made first by the previous devs
it is the duty of exalted players to instruct newbies in their idiosyncratic grievances
based
Cus like from what I’ve read I disagree
agian thematically I like solars, I like their place int he narrative and the stories they can tell
Or at least, they’re kinda meant to be a wildcard is my reading
my issue is purely mechanically
The world’s fucked, and solars are back
Using the Exigent book to do a Solar Remake
They are sort of your default, basic, murderhobo exalts
Are they gonna destroy the world or save it, etc etc. and they’ve got the whole baggage of the first age
I like that
I'm sure they'll be good in 4e
Their powers are "do thing better"
There is a lack of institutions for them to have connections to
For what they are I think that’s fine!
They make for a fun wildcard antagonist in other games, and themselves as players would also be wildcards in a world that kinda doesn’t like them!
everyone's a murderhobo it came with your superiority to mortals
I think 'solar as peak human' is fine, 'do things better' as their theme is fine, but supernal is a shitty mechanic, natural language was an awful decision to write rules text with and their charmset is both too narrow and too bloated
Yeah that’s fair
They are good for a default "walk the earth"-style storyline because they provide no strong basis for anything else
I can’t speak on the mechanics perspective because I haven’t fully dug into it
And I think this is fine if there are a smaller number of them kicking around
But Abyssals and Infernals feel far more integrated into the setting
I am so "newbie who has bad takes coded" because I also actually like a lot of the new exalt types (Liminals are still mid I can't defend those) (I also like the apocryphal exalts and are sad they aren't getting books)
That’s fair but…honestly I like that
i think that's the point, no? the world has been rid of them for millennia and now they're back and inflicting themselves on creation like nothing ever changed and there's the tension thematically. big sun is back and he wants his kids to fuck shit up and Fix Things (do they really need fixing?) i guess. i dont know. he doesnt talk to them cos he's a deadbeat
From my reading the solars are the wildcards and showing back up in a world that’s moved on
My problem with there being more Abyssals and Infernals is that unfortunately you run into a dissonance of how they aren't just winning outright
with the sheer power of solaroids
And then the abyssal’s are their corrupted apocalyptic counterpart
And the infernals are fucked up and worse Aaaand I want to read more about them
It's kinda funny to be integrated into the setting via living in a parallel universe
Also yeah they provide a solid like, hero/villain for the sudden “shits fucked” moment of the setting where 300 super powerful exalted are just showing up now
And again, I like the idea that some small number of them have been kicking around, and maybe there are even more of them after the Jade Prisonbreak
Abyssals have the typical evil guy problem of all the different factions hating each other and working at cross purpose.
Infernals don't even have a collective purpose and are kind of just running around being too loud most of the time
Yeah, there is no actual win state for Infernals
But also, it's only been five years since they all got out
The win state should be kissing a yozi.
And a lot of the Deathlords are distinctly uninterested in the win state
the new exalt types--gets, liminals, nocturnals, heart-eaters, dream-souled--aren't a bad idea, but they were definitely an overpromise by the original devs, is kind of my take, and some of them are like
And NPC characters don't get to do as much narrative in as short of time as PCs lol
the base idea is nae terrible but the presentation is unfortunately locked in a way that's kind of silly?
then again they're kind of fixing some of it, since it seems thulio's gets are like, a minority of them, maybe?
I could fix them
Liminals just feel like kinda nothings to me
yeah i dont really know who liminals are for 😭
I don’t disagree there…
liminals are 'I liked promethean let's do that but exalted' along with 'we should have more terrestiral level exalted'
I’m not huge on liminals
I feel like their lore definitly needs work
but like... books are where you put in that work?
Maybe I’ll warm up to them but I’m not huge on em
Promethean players i think
I'm glad they got rid of this, but back in 2e it was possible to give a Yozi therapy by inventing custom charms
Since the yozi were living masses of charms
yeah, we'll see waht the thinsplats for gets and lims are like
karen: see you could fix him, orrrr
you could make him worse
Noooo
I'd honestly much rather the fixing or making worse take a slightly less mechanized form
I'm not romancing the eternal embodiment of failure because I think he can be a better person, I'm romacing him because I remember that art from scroll of swallowed darkness
Well he’s a giant dragon innit? Plenty to love there
Like, I agree: the Infernal relationship with the Yozi is a real selling point for them, and does a lot to humanize these deeply inhuman primordial monsters
Liminals are ones I also found boring. It was hard for me to get through their charms in Essence compared to every other splat
Liminals are Prometheans but without any of the angst and therefore sauce
Yeah liminals just…aren’t much for me.
Clearly the way you do Yozi therapy is by repeatedly permanently killing their fetich soul. I'm sure there are no downsides to this
You actually do need to do something about the fetich soul to cause major change
Yeah but murder seems mean ;-;
(I guess you can kill other parts of their soul hierarchy too)
The Yozi has an unchangeable defining intimacy linked to the fetish soul
It also mostly fucks them up worse lol
Like I really enjoy heart eaters, but at the moment I can't really visualize what a heart eater campaign would look like besides maybe "Solars but you are so much fucking worse"
but I feel like if hearteaters actually got a book, they could explain what a hearteater circle actually gets up to in interesting ways
also Umbrals just being Exalted Support Groups that take turns trying their best to be good and trying to help each other not do anything too evil when their superpowered evil side comes out, umbrals actually have a pretty strong campaign premise of being out here rotating between Being Sad And Trying To Live A Normal Life and I SEE IT I WANT IT I TAKE IT
Dream Souled kinda have an inherent campaign pitch of "Follow Your Dream" I guess
ligier's definitely my fetish soul ifyouknowwhatimean
I don’t know who that is unfortunately
Ligier is the Green Sun
malfeas' fetich soul
The Fetich Soul of Malfeas
I was mostly poking fun at the 'fetish soul' typo
but ligier is very handsome and polite
he's also the sun in hell
^
One of the greatest martial artists that has ever existed: composed, confident, charming, and yes the dancer
he is everything Malfeas isn't and everything Malfeas hates about himself
IIRC him being a dancer is a notable trait
He is everything Malfeas used to be as Theion
It's a different spelling of the same word right? (Though I might have still spelt out wrong). But I did like the joke
…good lord, infernal smash or pass entered my brain
And he views Malfeas with tremendous disdain
Hilarious that I just guessed that
Nothing about this surprises me
big guy fucking hates himself
Malfeas's defining self is a reflection of the past he cannot return to, lives in continual envy of, and is pitied by.
it turns out that fetich is an archaic spelling of fetish, so
(Also basically unrelated but I strongly dislike Essence based exalts as an idea from the exigent book, pick ability or attribute! its more fun than just coming up with charms however you want!)
learn something new every day
There's a whole line of descent with the word fetish going through Freud
The Yozi are generally pretty terrible by normal human standards, but it's hard not to feel at least a bit bad for them
The non-sexual meaning is the older one, iirc
I like heart eaters enough that a campaign I am running/may run int he future (it's stalled out) is based around the idea that 'sidereals are tracing heart eater movements across creation and eveyr single one dies closer to uluiru than it started'
For a ritual or religious object
It's a good choice to avoid the modern meaning imo
!!!!!!!
Yessss
Anyway I started writing a Ligier SMA
Not an SMA that Ligier uses
But one that a sid could hypothetically learn by training with him
Also it has godzilla stuff
... I wonder if the increase in weird older/archaic words/usage is a stylistic choice because the Yozi are old things kind of trapped in the past
Because in my mind Theion was also Godzilla
Fluffy Hearteater Headcanons
- They should be attribute based(same goes for umbrals), not just because it would be neat but also because they are supposed to be foils to lunars.
- Their castes should be based off musical instrument types
Hmm, switching attributes vs skills is how they are doing Gets (who are foils to Sids). So that might be way they used skills for hearteaters despite being foils to lunars
the 'end game' of that one is the Sovereigns banding together to fight off the heart-eaters and their pawns while whoever replaced queen ulu as their god-queen bathes herself again in the Fond of Glories and ascends as Aurora Reborn, turning all the Sovereigns into a new generation of Aurorals
I have mixed feelings about Gets
Oh that is fun
I mostly feel like they should be a small faction of Sids
Not unlike the Brim-Hats in Witch Hat Atelier
"Rakan Thulio found some exaltations that Oramus and whatshisface made one time" doesn't do as much for me.
As someone coming into Exalted basically fresh for 3E, I like their breaking reality style nonsense. But I respect that Sids-enjoyers are annoyed at the intrusion into the Sidreal roles and themes
So
I like Geitimians at least partially because I enjoy "Fighting For A World That Doesn't Exist" as a motivation
my impression of Gets is that they are tripping balls on multiverse theory
which admttedly
Gets being the one "New Foil Exalt" that got in does really work for them thematically
"The only guy who got to be canon of an entire group of things" is like, their thing
sorry
The gets also just feel very awkwardly shoved into a lot of things
And, maybe this will change, but at present it seems like they don't have much going on other than being sid foils
I think a fun Get antagonist idea is one where the world they came from the players characters were the "bad guys"* and so they are trying to stop them. But the PCs of course don't know who this person is or why they hate them
* Well, the PCs are probably going to look like that to many people anyways
I am mostly confused at Ice being air because I don't know what damage stuff water is (for protection from element effects)
Yeah that whole campaign idea is like, the sourc eof the one auroral charm I've written up so far, lmao.
Opaline Rebirth
Cost: 10xp, 20m, 2wp. Mins: Ess 1, App 1
Type: Simple
Keywords: None
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None
The Auroral must use this charm while touching the opal bones of a heart-eater after it's exaltation has been sealed into them. It does not function on a heart-eater who has any pawns remaining. The heart-eater's opaline skeleton crumbles into dust, and the exaltation within them is inverted again, turning into a new Auroral exaltation that immediately returns to Heaven. As part of this process, an Aurora can be seen for the next month, centered on the location this charm was used and visible out to five hundred miles.
Special: All Aurorals know this charm by default, until all Heart-eater exaltations have been saved. Should that occur, all Aurorals immediately gain a point of essence (up to essence 6), a point of willpower (up to willpower 10), and two free charms they qualify for.
Oh also @fierce star: thought, you could make them ability-based but just kind of make Appearance all-important to them?
that isnt' a bad idea. Make appearance the target of most of their attribute swap charms, etc
That was one of their ideas. Though I worry that you might as well give them Appearance 5 if that's the case?
Alternately, you could just give up on symmetry and have things not be perfectly equally represented in attributes. It's not like Solar caste abilities are perfectly symmetrical
true
Alternatively, maybe you could go a weird opposite and let other abilities be able to act like Appearance
Yeah, true
And then have them be Attributed exalts
Also
Appearance+2 gives you the space for 4 unique pairs of attributes to form your castes
Iteration was hoping for five
Oh right
what I have so far is this. As you can see, str and wits are both underrepresented.
So like, they are all pretty, but some are pretty in very unusual ways (when they use a different stat for the appearance effect)
hmm. Stat swaps for appearance isn't a bad idea either actually
Maybe not have Appearance show up in the dice pools themselves, and don't give them any stat swaps to appearance, but have Appearance effect important stuff like ... charm caps? I dunno.
Strength based heart eater that does that wall slam type flirting
You'll probably have to give a little extras bonus to appearance stuff for them, but I think it helps with the "why don't they all take app 5" problem
(Which is only really a problem if there is more than one though)
their current charm cap is (attribute + intimacy + 1) OR their target's, whichever is higher* (*they may spend a willpower to excellency on an ally's behalf)
Spitballing: you choose your Unnatural Beauty stat which acts like appearance but also gives bonus dice whenever your relevant stat exceeds their resolve. The Appearance tree is extra good at getting a high stat here?
Oh that is fun
I did feel like their exigent book excellency needed some work
I was just gonna make it Attribute+Intimacy but they can also their excellency on Pawns
(choosing appearance gives you a bonus to the effective stat I guess)
hmm
But making it more of a “on ally behalf” thing in exchange for a willpower cost let’s them do support shit and works better for normal Aurorals
I unreasonably like this because it means you want low resolve troops for war because you want them to be incredibly infatuated by you easily lol
lol
yeah I like this unnatural beauty idea, I'll roll it around in my head some and try to figure out what happens when you're unnatural beauty is from appearance
still need to figure out how to evenly split 9 attributes across 5 aspects though
(I don't remember the official exigent write up, granted)
Its very barebones
They are resonant with adamant and can do up to celestial sorcery but no necromancy
which I've kept for aurorals, yeah
no keywords for MAs
was tempted to let them learn a single SMA (PAoC) but shied away from that
Thinking about how cool that one charm the sovereigns have in their occult tree
Which lets them as terrasterials learn one celestial spell, but they gain a limit every time they cast it
Always thought that charm was cool flavorfully
I like ASOM’s idea a bunch, too
Basically like a Solaroid’s Supernal
Plus that does kinda ease up the burden on player vanity (it’s me, I have the vanity)
Unnatural Beauty
Every Auroral is beautiful in some way, in methods that transcend mortal understanding of beauty; in a way that speaks to every aching heart across creation. When you create your Auroral, choose one caste attribute to be their Unnatural Beauty attribute. You may use that attribute instead of Appearance for all calculations that would normally rely on Appearance; additionally, charms of that attribute will have the Unnatural Beauty tag, giving additional effects if that attribute is your Unnatural Beauty attribute.
Unnatural Appearance Sidebar
"So what if I pick Appearance?"
Some Aurorals maintain a standard of beauty that is relatively normal, yet superlative still. Aurorals with Appearance as their Unnatural Beauty are more capable of using it than other Aurorals; aside from the bonus to their charms, they may also choose to gain the Hideous merit at will when it would suit them as they twist their beauty to something inhuman and uncanny.
needs a snappier name but I am liking the Juice here
Infernals had spirit charms broken up by Yozi of origin in 2e, and it worked great. In practice they functioned very similarly to attribute exalts but their charm trees could be more complex and varied, so one could have an "I summon green flames" charm that branched off into social, oracular, and combat charms or whatever, as was suitable.
(Their excellencies were really cool, rather than being tied to an attribute or ability they were tied to a way of behaving)
(So like a SWLIHN excellency could make one very good at acting like SWLIHN)
fascinating
(A real "what would jesus do" type of beat >_>)
We were never going to get that in 3e, tragically, but I remember it fondly
Infernals had some of the best-loved mechanics in 2e (which, to be fair, was a very busted game)
Breaking up by Yozi also let the dynamic of caste/favored/non-favored be preserved
Since you had a caste yozi, and a favored yozi
honestly with how much exalted takes inspiration from...i think greek mythology and xianxia genre stuff, it would be funny to bring in other religious aesthetics for other thematics.
this isnt related to your end statement but the jesus thing reminded me of it
The Unconquered Sun is straight out of Roman mythology
A lot of Rome in general
But like there is literally a Roman deity by that name
Sol Invictus
oh thats for sure true
theres just a lot of room for bringing in shit from norse myths in terms of vibes, or Abrahamic aesthetics showing up in places you don't expect, and tbh Shinto stuff wouldn't actually be out of place whatsoever and may have even inspired some stuff anyway.
lots of places to draw from
yeah
like all of that isnt even a "bringing in different aesthetics" those are just
in the aesthetics
thats in the book
Gosh I wonder what other religions Karen (angelic and radiant) wants to bring in
THROWING APPLES
I did try its just they drew aesthetics from fucking EVERYTHING
I would say that Sids and Solars both have some angelic vibes already
animism, reincarnation, polytheism, strange underworlds, strange and alien demons, its got
so much
sids ill agree with
solars.....to me solars are not quite angelic
the only angelic aesthetics are the sun motifs
The anima banner is a lot of things but it’s also a halo
to me being angelic is also about the role you play
sids are the managers of fate and agents of heaven, they are in service to those forces
solars...theyre more independent
i had assumed they were given quite a bit of leeway in running things during the first age
That’s fair, maybe it would be more on target to say there are solars with saint vibes
Good news: We have a god who'll bring angels. Her name is CeCe and she'll all about that God of Exodus stuff 😛
fair enough
though in that case, as of right now solars arent quite angelic
Summons Locusts, Makes People Walk Through the Desert For Multiple Years
oh yeah saint vibes for sure
abyssals...abyssals occasionally seem to draw on biblical vibes. not always, but y'know one of the deathlords is a bishop
oh?
Interestingly, btw, Sids don’t have a priest caste, because all Sids are considered priests
tracks yeah
sids are like, the most angelic, from what ive gathered so far, of the exalts
Cecelyne, The Endless Desert is one of the Yozi. She works with Faith and Devotion and Deserts. She's very Old Testament Yahweh.
The Maidens are also like … right over there
oh fun
YHWH hsssssss
But yeah her 2E iconic was a nun
Like an evil sexy nun
who was IIRC also Moses
But still
nevermind!
looks like exalted draws from fucking everything
Random nun
Like one of her iconic things is Creating Laws people must live under.
SWLIHN is logical and calculating but CeCe is hierarchy
(I am hissing because the Tetragrammaton is literally the unpronounceable name of god)
Sulumor (the hellnun) is the, well, nuh. Aside from her you have Sky Pirate (iconic adjoran), ANGRY BARBARIAN (Iconic Malfeas), Carcination Man! (SWLIHN), and Sneaky Ninja (ebby)
by their powers combined they're dysfunctional
"with our powers combined we form 50% of a functional person!"
"it's also not an even distrubtion, one of us is 40% functional the rest are 2%"
Hey, I'm sure they have a lot of halves of functional people. They're strewn all over the ground after a fight.
true
I want to note captain gyrfalcon, the iconic adjoran one, is uh
a dandy, loud as hell, loves singing nad music and telling people how great he is and how fearsome a pirate he is and look at all the attention and noise I make
Why is there a booby nun
Because CeCe
god forbid women do any- actually this one might be sanctioned by a god
women are allowed to have hobbies and religions it's true
Also on a more meta level: I imagine they went with the nun to make it clear that the desert themes of CeCe are supposed to be YHWH-inspired, not 'ANCIENT EGYPT MUMMY POWERS GO'
hobbies and bobbies...
kind of funny that they made Titty Nun and then went oh. wait. we kind of forgot this whole setting is supposed to be Vaguely Eastern and added some ofuda for the hell of it
You could have also done this with a haggard blind prophet or something but fair enough xD
yeah but sexy nuns sell more books
They do and I hate that xD
they shoulda went all in!!!!
inexplicable nun!!!
I kind of object to the idea they needed to make everything Eastern-themed by their own constraints
The sun God wouldn't be Sol Invictus then xD
To be fair, exalted is pretty big and broad. It's not all eastern-themed.
Yeah I was challenging Ash's statement
Wouldn’t that add up to 48
2% margin of error
yeah
"imperial chinarome" is how I've had it described to me in the past, and that does seem to fit with how everything I've seen is at least Vaguely eastern
give or take personal growth
I think her having Not*Ofuda is a mostly thoughtless 'oh this is cool'
The Dynasty is fucking weird Ash, yeah lol
I mean, nuns are very rome 😛
And hey, as bad as her outfit is...at least it's not Sorcerer and Savant.
It’s a grab-bag, I think. The East Asian-themed stuff is just often more noticeable because we don’t take it for granted.
That's fair
I do admittedly like Lunars cuz they achieve (to my western eyes) a more obvious overall admixture of world mythologies
Unrelated: I will say, I am baffled by the change in Adorjan’s portrayal
We've got stuff like the Shogunate which is more Sparta than Shogunate. XD
She was such a big part of the demon city’s whole vibe
And now she just Likes Murders I Guess
wait do they do not the 'everyone is super noisy all the time to keep her away because she just murders everyone' anymore?
It’s mentioned very offhand and with much less clarity
And Adorjan as a character seems to have lost all of the abusive, murderous lover vibes
Aww, I liked that I WILL LOVE YOU TO DEATH aspect.
awh what's even the point if her hate isnt' safer than her love
Soon the legend of Ledaal Midura shall begin; ice-cold Water-Aspect scion of a minor branch family of the threshold, sent to the Heptagram School following the completion of their training in martial arts
A peerless Shikari weapon in human form
oh hell yeah another ledaal!
my abyssal was from there
...and her dragon blooded brother
lol
It is in fact High Drama that mine is the Wrong Aspect
Which their mother resents because they are her only Exalted child
yup sure can
I didn’t know aspects could be wrong that’s hilarious
Well Houses try to cultivate one particularly aspect usually
but because they intermarry so often it's all possibble
Lmao
I love that
Fucking reason
I mean it kinda makes sense
Water is the rainy seasons
But air is when it gets colder
It’s not like the rest make more sense
Wood…fire…uh, earth…
None of those make water any colder I guess
A good portion of ice's volume is usually trapped air ☝️ 🤓
Guards throw his ass to the labyrinth
Voy you nerd fu-
You guys keep throwing me in the labyrinth, but it's not like the minotaur can't get more pregnant.
theres a minotaur down there?
holy shit
we gotta get the boys down there
(alternate universe where minos didnt imprison the minotaur he just sorta wandered in on his own)
why did he have it in the first place
tax writeoff
Much less so in 3e, fwiw
They do still explicitly say so
They still have a dominant aspect, but it's not nearly as big a deal
If you're male you probably are getting married off to another aspect house tho
If only because the eugenics aspect of the Deebs being accurate to reality has been scaled back a lot
Gods, Breeding. What a merit.
Well Breeding still has like 2 different merits
Breeding was a 2e merit
You can turn your nut off from core
abyssals get whispers in their book
wonder what dbs get?
or shut your womb up
yeah, conception control or whatever is a merit
which was
great tonesetter when i cracked open the rulebook
Which measured the purity of your Dragonblood's lineage
Right, whereas Well-Bred just reflects the social realities of Deeb culture
well if you happen to have kids i guess they'll probably exalt
It's probably more likely
well very explicitly more likely
See, I achieve that by just throwing my kids off cliffs until they start glowing. I currently have zero non-glowing children around.
heihachi behavior
good combo of gifs
