but she's very much on the "occult spy thriller" end of things
i'll take a look!

Thank you all for being here, it means more than you know!!
mage inspo
(mostly Order of Hermes in oMage, Mysterium in nMage)
alternastively, Tremere Shit™️
had a horrible experience with a player
all the guy did the entire session was hide from the rest of the party
whenever i gave him hooks to interact(happened more than once)
he would just say "i stay hidden"
That's wack, I'm sorry to hear that
he also took so much time out of the session because of him wanting to play solo
That sucks hard
Had a player do that myself
Honestly talk to them
ask them what they want, and why they weren't engaging
and if they just say "it's what my character would do" then it needs to be made clear that if characters don't engage with the story you're telling then you're not going to make a side one for them.
Just because someone wants to run off and become a baker doesn't mean the DM has to give them flour weavels and rude customers to deal with
that character has left the game at that point
Yeah now im considering calling the player so we can sit down and have a talk
Yeah, that's a good idea, I think
If there's just some mismatch in expectations or they want something IC to hook their PC into the game, best to work it out
And if they're just being disruptive on purpose, well, best to find out
(we've all had the game where everyone wanted to be the edgy surly loner and couldn't handle it when there were no squares to freak, right?)
What are the curseborne splats?
The Dead - Ghost that have to possess a body; if they're without a body too long they cease to exist(normally you possess your own corpse, but if it's destroyed you can claim another). Get curse dice by participating in family-specific activities(vengeance, helping people, scaring people, etc)
The Hungry - Vampires that can feed on things other than just blood and have some shadow-manipulation powers. Get curse dice by drinking blood or family-specific things(memories, souls, spirits)
The Outcasts - Demons/Angels/other stuff like that, can enter the Outside(spirit worlds basically) easier than others. Unclear how they get curse dice tbh
The Primal - Shapeshifters, including werewolves but also Jeykll/Hyde types, fish-people, etc. All have an associated element they can channel. Get curse dice by giving in to whatever creature lives within
The Sorcerers - Mages who can copy the magic shit the other lineages can do, as well as doing a lot of their own unique stuff--not as flexible as Mage at all. Get curse dice by making family-specific sacrifices(knowledge, wealth, living things)
it is unfortunately not super clear how all the various lineages/families gain curse dice. some of them spell it out pretty well, but others make vague allusions and its like 'okay, what the fuck does that mean?'
like, uh, one of the Hungry families, the Bathorites feed on blood and...luxury??? somehow???
Ah, I see! You feed off of showing off your wealth.
and Outcasts dont have a lot of clarity on it other than something saying they gain a curse die for inconveniencing themselves or their crew
if only it were so clearly explained
oh, wait, the powers chapter does basically just say 'its more about vibes and themes than anything'
curse dice afaik work similar to hunger/rage/desperation dice, except they're only rolled when using spells/rituals, acting in liminal spaces, or anything else that specifically calls for it, instead of just every roll like in WoD5
but there's also no rouse check equivalent, they just get 'bled' when you use a power that has a cost
and when they are used in a roll, its just to check for a 'wicked success'(crit success) or a 'cruel failure'(crit fail), and the effects of these are like
an otherworldly entity shows up to help
the target becomes unlucky
a new NPC shows up to help you out
an enemy NPC makes plans to fuck with you
your family's elders will punish you
harmful monsters are attracted
ran the first session of my Crimson Gutter game earlier
i'll try to avoid plot spoilers ig
group started out at a night club that the toreador had heard about from her sire, went around solo feeding on people in different areas of the club
3/4 of the group either failed or took a win at a cost on hunting or feeding, and thus ||got approached by the guards--one of them was helped out by Nora, so the guard mostly spoke to her but glanced over her shoulder to make sure the tzim in question heard him||
a ||wight showed up and started chomping on people near the entrance, 3 of them tried to do somethign about it but they all failed--one got his throat crused and has been reluctant about rousing to heal it||
they waited around after the ||Wight had left to meet the manager, and 2 of them are his childer--they made a joke about getting hit by a car, and then moved on before i got a chance to comment on hit
||
and then they left the club with an hour left in the time we planned to play, so we took a short break and when we came back, i had skipped ahead a few nights (nobody wanted to try for desires/ambitions)
had them roll their predator type pools to feed, one of them took a bestial failure, so ||sydney abel showed up in his car, and gave him an invite to a meeting, but no indication of who it was from. spent the whole scene after she gave him the invite thinking she was a ghoul, and was more worried about if the invite was from the cam or anarchs(anarchs in this case). was very worried when i mentioned her being a vampire post-session
||

i'll say
i'm only going to sit down and talk to the player cause my friend asked me to do so
otherwise i would just kick him out
i have 0 patience for people ruining my games
debating how tense i want the relations between the Camarilla and Anarchs to be in my game
by default they're not friendly, but the bit we'll be covering next session defaults to an assumption that the Anarchs would be okay with the Sheriff showing up, but includes a thing of 'if the relation between the two sects is hostile enough in your city, swap the sheriff out for this other npc'
Like... Anybody showing up in the wrong neighborhood is going to be watched and looked at askance, but they're not attacking one another on sight, and still share information regarding Really Big Deals? ™️
The sheriff is gonna be looked at with a VERY raised eyebrow most likely
I'm leaning towards the assumption they're not at war with each other tbh. Mostly because it gives me a chance to introduce the Camarilla a bit as well, and I also kinda wanna have the Church of Caine priest try to start the meeting with a sermon
But yeah, it's addressed that the Sheriff wouldn't be super welcome. But they're on Anarch territory, and she's there to address a Masquerade threat
Basically, that's what I'm leaning towards
The breach in question is a Big Deal™️ and on going until someone does something about it--the PCs are given the task because they were present for the breach
(it's a ||wight, who some of the people present for the meeting will recognize from when he still had humanity||)
Favorite dead dominion? I really like the sunken village, and the cave with a bunch of fires
In the village, you receive a gift basket with the Old Laws, accepting it is accepting the laws. One of them is you must not acknowledge the people are dead. This is a Perfectly Normal village
Oh, there's also the Gymnasium. Ghosts debate there, but periodically smoke is released from the walls, making them forget the knowledge produced/obtained. So they endlessly debate without getting anywhere
can you?
in older editions yeah, W5 doesnt have stats for Goose as a totem
(i think stats for Goose were only ever given in Tribebook: Wendigo, from Revised)
You can just design a Pack Patron
ya know what

i dont care if im being a tyrant
this is MY table and i decide who gets to play
i'm kicking the problem player out
he didnt convince me in the lil talk we had so he's out
Good move
Your table, you decide whether you have energy for such behavior that hurts the game
what game is that from?
void leviathans sound cool
tell me delilah
is there amything from forsaken that has good crossover value?
like the hedge from changeling?
Well kinda yeah, especially for mage
Werewolf is super concerned about the Spirit World and most of the things werewolves do involve it
so its a really good read if you're gonna have a mage invest into the Spirit Arcana
that's useful bc werewolf spends a lot of time talking about the Gauntlet
And about the Courts of Spirits
what's the Gauntlet?
And there's plenty of stuff to do with like, Urged and Claimed that makes for good Mysteries
its... go check out mage again lmao
they've got it written down in the Spirit section
will do
I should screenshot that shit
The Director has decided to deciminete some vital instructional videos for Hunters needing advice... the first of which drops Haloween night!
Hey! Look at you go reading the description! While you're herep please consider donating to Lina's GoFundMe to help her get the remainder of her family our of Gaza and help her rebuild a new life, or mayb...
this is neat
Just to say Skully I think you did the right thing
did they say WHY they were being freaking weird and not playing with people?
In their words "i didnt want to be seen by the hospital's staff"
But even then that was just metagaming
Very strange behaviour
Sounds like "I want all the attention" behavior honestly.
Everyone has to take turns seeking them out and encouraging them. Newer and younger players do it sometimes
So limbus seems to have basically referenced vampire the masquerade. Their vampires have a progenitor and a generation hierarchy, hell even use the term embrace at one point. The embraced by the progenitor are first kindred, the following generation second kindred
Stupid question, but would letting a werewolf know whats up with vampire society be a masquerade breach
It depends on how much the ruling class dislikes the guy.
Generally no because the first question you'd get is "a fucking Lupine is here????"
Followed by shutting the door on you and grabbing a shotgun
Right, right
I dont think id be worried about werewolf snitches. Like we can snitch right back
You should be very worried about Werewolves in general.
I am werewolves dw
"Hey this guy is constantly seen walking out of morgues" "hey this guy hangs out in the same nature reserve that people keep getting disappeared in"
I was asking because i was thinking up a potential story arc in a werewolf chronicle in which one of the garou has to work with a vampire to bust out of a hunter's holding cells
I know something happened in one of the new games like that i just dont caare
Yeah no vampire is gonna be upset that the werewolf knows vampires exist
I just think it would be funny for them to realize how fucking weird it is their cosmologies are both correct and contradictory
"What the fuck is the wyrm? We're the descendants of caine, the first murderer" "...this makes the same amount of sense"
to be fair, werewolves have their own explanation for vampires
iirc they think they're all fomori or something along those lines
(definitely wyrm-tainted though)
Other supernatural beings knowing about vampires isn't masquerade breach they also are also small in number and keel themselves secret. They can't exactly go blabbing to the authorities about the local executive being a vampire and when asked how they know this they answer "I'm a mage/werewolf/changeling" whatever. The Masquerade is a thing because humans vastly outnumber kindred and if humanity as a whole knew about them it's just over.
Well, I think technically, it is a Masquerade Breach, it's just... not a particularly enforceable one, nor one that people care about?
But like, theoretically if everyone hated you, they could use it as an excuse to go after you
To be clear: are we talking Requiem or Masquerade?
Either way (but especially Masquerade), the issue is less Masq breach and more the concern that a dangerous monster is learning stuff that could be risky for the vamps
"Please do not give the Lupines targets" is a thing.
Yeah, this being a pretty big difference between V:tM and V:tR
Requiem vampires might think of werewolves as a potentially dangerous unknown element, Masq vampires assume any werewolf they meet is gonna be on sight
Because Garou are on sight
yeah oWoD was a good bit more likely to have playable splats on opposite sides of a holy war
With Garou, it's on sight with everyone
bought the 5th editions of hunter and vampire on ebay. im amassing a collection of tomes
I thinke maybe Julia
@clear delta
How was it? The themes of hope and the entropy seem interesting
I had a really good time, my group kinda went through the motions of like ghost drama and trauma and regret and also like underworld dnd to not be depressing all the time
I think the hardest part is being a good shadowguide tbh
What's a shadowguide?
Imagine vampire if you will, if the beast had a tiny array of stats and another player controlled it
That player would be the shadowguide
I see
Like it has it's own resource pool called angst and when it gets high enough it can contest the willpower of the wraith for control like a frenzy
Having a player put another through a psychologically exacting experience (harrowing) seems open to problems
As bruva alphabusa put it, play it with people you trust, like your polycule or your rabi or something
I see
i still feel weird about the way he said it
If you do find a good group, the experience is pretty great
Because shadowguiding basically gives the players some level of narrative control for creating captivating and personal interpersonal drama moments
But it can be used by an asshole to just be an asshole
I got lucky and landed with a group of randos who all wanted to have a good time and help each other have a good time so most of the time shadows were used to enhance the narrative instead of just bullwhipping
Like, it's a cool system, it just requires that no one at the table is that guy
It also requires that everyone is an active participant that has active interest in shaping the narrative
Like the guy who i just kicked out from mine
(he was that guy)
So, it's a game for a very specific type of player if you follow that idea of the multiple types of players
Incredibly funny way to write his name
Alfabusa yea
Wraith is the Promethean of oWoD
Explain
compelling piece of fiction that no one wants to sit down for
Y u p
I see
writing setting stuff for a werewolf chronicle i wanna run with some friends. does this make sense?
today in my Crimson Gutter V5 game, the coterie was formally introduced to the concepts of the Camarilla, Anarchs, and also the Church of Caine
also they were accused of ||helping the Wight that attacked the club they were at, but pointed out that the security footage showing someone in silhouette leaving the back door didnt really matter cause the Wight entered through the front door||
and then they chatted with a bunch of NPCs and eventually went to meet one of them at another location for more info, and we ended the session with the Minister spotting her Sire sitting next to the guy they're going to meet
What's the difference between zero humanity vampires of masquerade and requiem?
They are called Wights and Draugr respectively
Otherwise nothing really
Nothing beyond the differences between VtM and VtR vampires more generally
I like the strix from VtR
would killing a bunch of sabbat freaks be a good rite of passage?
yknow what i think id rather just run it as "the sept wants you to do this, so do it" with the pack all meeting eachother for the first time
The big difference is that some Draugr are said to be careful/cunning predators, capable of carrying out ambushes- whereas wights are just perma-frenzying
V5 paints Wights as being cunning, especially those that manage to survive more than a few months
which one of the splats is the best one for a spooky game session?
One where i wanna scare my friends
Mortals do have that feeling of vulnerability
Yeah
Looking at the house-that-hates and how it manifests one feature to attract tenants
Underground hormone lab
What would make for a good supernatural pursuer
Something like a nemesis, but subtler. Not able to be fought in the physical space
And ideally one that can be put in pursuit of someone who's taken some kind of artifact
I think a ghost's fetter is a little too straightforward
what game? cause a huntsman is kind of the perfect answer in changeling, but doesnt work at all in vampire
Hunter
Okay, subtle
my first thoughts are a luck spirit that wants the artifact to be left alone so it fucks with whoever has it, a witch/mage with fate bullshit, or a demon(astral or inferno varieties, rather than Unchained) or something that starts out weak and gets stronger the longer it takes for the group to figure out how to deal with it
A spirit can get angry at something taken from their territory
Mummies start all flashy, but get normal and, if they want to last long awake, need to pace the use of their powers
assuming nHunter
So if you avoid the initial rage of the mummy, they can just use their more subtle powers and the resources of their cults
I just showed this friend Possum a few weeks ago and I think a horrible spider thing coming for him would be fantastic
honestly i'm not super familiar with nChangeling mechanics so i'm not sure how well a huntsman would work as an antag for Hunters
could also just be a winter court changeling or something along those lines though
if the specific mechanics of huntsmen would make it too much of an issue for hunters
You can also just build an horror
Huntsman
A Slasher
A Strix
A Spirit that was born from their own trauma
Goat Man
I think huntsman is what I'm gonna go with
Both because it can be a spider and because it sounds like a spider
Oh, a geist doesn't have an anchor like a ghost. They've become little death gods, and some specific situations are triggers for them
The fucked thing about Huntsmen is they don't have to hide
don't piss on goat man's bridge
Wait, fetter? Are you doing old hunter?
they can just run at you as a giant spider in the middle of broad day light and everyone is like "oh what a normal man"
Actually, this works great
You can adapt things between universes, but it's good to clarify
Because I have another character who's haunt involves changelings
And I like the idea of this critter hunting one player being a problem big enough to frighten the haunt of another
I use the term haunt I mean inciting incident and uh
Intended overall mystery to solve
I love the idea of a geist causing havoc among the living
This thing that has only echoes of what being human is like
So, the character this Huntsman would be after isn't a changeling. Maybe the item the player has picked up is the Huntsman's heart itself?
It could also be that player isn't meant to be caught
the player being chased is meant to draw out the actual quarry, a changeling
That could work :3c
Yeah so rereading over the player's sheet
They've got an artifact endowment and the stalker demerit
This works perfectly
LOOK WHAT CAME IN
book
kinda curious if anybody in here is watching Misfits and Magic 2, cause the way the 4 different characters went about doing some magic to fix their various injuries feels like solid mage inspo
no not really? is it a WoD actual play?
i know there are a lot of those, an old pal of mine was doing a masquerade ap last time i looked at his life
Its Dimension 20s Harry Potter parody iirc
Ye. Uses Kids on Brooms for season 1, season 2 is KoB with a bit of homebrew based on another season(Never Stop Blowing Up), with the 'official' system name being Never Stop Making Magic
Could i use feral weapons to spike my knuckles?
in theory, yeah, but that's kind of a question for your gm
LOOK WHAT CAME IN A DAY LATER
woooooo
Some folks recommended haunting of bly manor for geist inspiration
....but dang it did nothing for me
Maybe the audiobook will be better
Oh, another recc
Sell your haunted house
Korean series about a company that exorcises buildings so thry can be sold
At the same time finding out what horrible things caused the hauntings. Getting justice for the dead is not part of the job, nor is it easy to get evidence, so ms Hong the female lead tries to avoid it. But still sympathizes with the dead and ends up fighting for them
Can i ask a stupid question? Society of st leopold feels very vampire focused, and firstlight seems very werewolf focused. Am i wrong in assuming either org would be interested in hunting either monster?
I mean they'd probably show up and get to work, but I think they're more meant to be used as antagonists/other parties in stories involving leeches and wolves
i feel like society of leopold will deal with any super natural they come across, but they do seem to be more vamp focused
That's pretty much the case
FIRSTLIGHT also seems to be mostly vamp focused which...Sort of makes sense for both when you think about it.
Vampires, ironically, are more visible as a problem
They almost exclusively stick to large urban centers, they are adept at infiltrating mortal institutions, and they're comparatively numerous
Also there's the issue (at least in previous editions, IDK about W5) that if you make a Werewolf angry, you're pretty much going to be instantly incapacitated by Delirium, unless everybody in your hunting party has either 10 Willpower, or is also on some supernatural juju
indeed
Its still pretty much the same in forsaken bc ha ha ha Lunacy
speaking of
Dalu- She's bigger than big, she's taller than tall, she's meaner than mean, and that's not all. She's got muscle like steel cabling, pressed against skin that's to small for all the meat and bone beneath. That smile's like a butchers scimitar, those eyes still glittering green with nasty plots and wicked promises.
Gauru- A nightmare, a thing of madness crowned in gore. Its green eyes glitter with the joy of violence and its mouth spreads wide with rending teeth in lunatic grin. It bursts out of her skin, wearing the tattered remains as a raiment, ribbons of flesh catching the night air as it moves in to kill.
Urshul- A loping beast- a coyote, maybe, through a fever-dream. Snout just to long, teeth all helter-skelter in its mouth. Green eyes crazed and bulging against their sockets, looking every which way in rapturous malice. A nightmare of a canine, conjured from some primal monkey-memory bred into men when the world was young.
Urhan- A coywolf of some size, ropey and ranging in its movement and moving between cover always. When it is seen, its green eyes glitter with a hidden intellect.```
been making descriptions of my girl's forms
Noice
It's a little strange to think about my character Omar actually doing vampire hunts at all. Just from how he's faced the world so far, he's not properly hunted a person... I honestly do not know how he would go about it
Learning how to do politics but if he was left to himself he'd probably die in a week
He can turn into a horrible tentacled shadow beast though. Not QUITE useful for stealthy hunting and drinking but it sure is useful
Temple sealed by an antechamber with a tree covered in amulets and talismans
Could be a good aesthetic. It's like, a containment facility set up by multiple groups of exorcist mages.
It's mostly ghosts and spirits there, plus some goetia and other stranger things
So the entrance to that temple is this "room", with holes for sunlight, filled with seals. On the walls, the door further in, the tree
MtAw question: I doubt this is something the Lore covers, but how much time would you say normally elapses between Awakening and actually having the skills of a starting-level PC? I tend to assume most player characters just graduated out of apprenticeship.
It does cover this
And yeah a basic starting PC is considered an Apprentice
There's a "freshly awakened" stat array in one of the books
Signs of Sorcery
I can't remember what the assumed amount of time between Awakening and start of play is, but I'd imagine either 2e core or SoS would answer that
(Signs has a whole chapter about Awakenings and related Mysteries towards the end)
Does "about a year" sound especially short?
nah, I think that's probably the default
Nah, the book assumes a fresh recruit to the Pentacle knows three rotes and High Speech, about a year seems correct
Besides. This way, the character won't have to go through much change between awakening and becoming a playable character
This way, they can still be in a specific situation or stage in their lives
Like fresh college student
vampire in action
@clear delta @mighty zephyr @high current lets say you have an abyssal copy of a market, what kind of things would you expect to find there?
think of a place like a farmer's market where you have plenty of tents with different stuff
also @chilly vault
for some more context players are stuck in the crossroads, it's pretty much a copy of the real world made by the abyss
So, what's pardoxical or nonsensical in commerce
Rampant consumerism and waste.
Don't have much else atm
Yeah basically. Take the real thing, amp up the bad

Not just the bad
The abyss has had a problem of being just made into evil demonic stuff in some books, but
That's not quite it
The abyss is a bit tricky to write
yeah
i'm starting to see that....
I basically go with
Toxic paradoxical ideas

Oh! Black friday!
Also. Starkid has a play called Black Friday
Pretty much people going crazy over consumrism, making a toy into their salvation, trying to invole an elder god with it
starkid?
who's that?
Theatre group
Their Hatchetfield plays are horror. I don't think a single one has a happy ending, rather than a tragic or mixed one
Well, horror/ comedy
turns out i mixed up firstlight and project twilight because who fuckin wouldnt
Project Twilight also has my favorite bit of WoD canon ever

Surprises me how cool the Lore is
Gonna give this a watch, our characters have just gotten to Cairo and we're being used to problem solve some things in the area so I suspect we might fuck up sideways and maybe meet a mummy.
We've already apparently accidentally waltzed through a minefield of stuff waiting for us
I have a feeling this isn't going to be a good time for us. We found a monolith and opened up a portal and went through it. I don't think this is going to be good.
Old mummy is confusing
This Hunter the Reckoning campaign I have cooked up is the fucking bomb
Also it's really funny, the Holy man trying to find his faith again is being haunted by fairies and a dark bargain made in his childhood. The Exterminator is trying to find his fiancee in the company of an angel in the flesh and of the flesh. And the discontent fast food manager is being hunted by a big bug.
All the antagonists are flipped
The fairies are, I'd like to clarify, a more suitable antagonist to the theme of the fast food manager. They're doing the envious thing of trying to steal supernatural power for themself
new mummy is confusing
Felt simple to me
Fair enoughb
Ancient high class from an old empire became god-like and desthless through a ritual, but are servants to fucked uo gods that treat humans as resources
And judge them
That’s true, lore wise they make sense its just that in play mummy is confusing
Due to all the level down time travel shinnegans
Oh true
Don't forget the non-chronological time travel!
It's just old mummy had that whole reboot going from ancient beings to modern people
I can't keep any old mummy lore beyond that in my head
First session of HtR tomorrow :3c
So
Did the Hunter the Reckoning first session. I almost cried at the end
It was the best tabletop session I've ever done
hell yeah
Congrats
Yeeeeey
how do i write mad man speech
i'm trying to write a character who's like magic man from Adventure time but not as silly
someone who's been driven mad( by an artifact in this case) and is going around transmuting people
he's currently being hunted down by the adamantine arrow
he went inside a pub of theirs and turned one of their members into a gold statue
and the mysterium is also interested in the situation since the heard of the artifact
I can write it for you >_>
you can?
Just gimme the information you want me to include and I'll write out a diary entry or something
Driven mad, going around transmuting people, turned someone in to gold
Just include any important other details, (what the year is, what is driving him mad, if you want him to mention anything in specifics) and I can get you something
will do
i'm still thinking on what exactly the amulet he's wearing showed him to make him go mad
What year is it when he's doing this?
2024
And do you want to make them like... lost and confused? Or aggressive and driven?
i think agressive and driven is a better fit for what i am imagining
Cool cool cool. Do they only work in gold or are they transmuting in to just about anything?
someone suggested i only do gold but i kinda of like the idea of them being able to do lots of things
righto. Is he doing this to these people for a reason? Or is this random attacks? Like, does he have targets
Cause if he's aggressive it's good to know if he's aggressive towards those people in particular for some reason, even if it's an insane one
i think the reason could be is that he's trying to have people listen to him
and when they dont he becomes agressive
he knew of the existence of mages before losing his mind, that's how he ended up at the mage pub
sorry it took me so long to answer
i got distracted
@high hornet
no worries
Im going to bed now
if ya have any more questions i shall answer them in the morning! Thanks for the help so far Leika
Do yall have any good online resources for dice pools with different dice types? Like for games of werewolf/vampire 5
The best i can come up with is like, just open two tabs with the google dice roller and say one of them is rage/hunger
Foundry has a solid system set up for WoD5's dice mechanics. Dunno how roll20's compares
silly question, just how many books are there for Awakening 2e?
I forget which are which and the collection I downloaded are annoyingly not labelled by edition
how do i write a morally ambiguous character?
guess someone who has good intentions
but with questionable decisions
okay so what are they doing that's wrong and why are they doing it
generally, how you write a morally ambiguous character is you supply them with enough humanizing reasons for doing what they're doing that the audience will go "okay that kinda makes sense" and then give them a mix of positive and negative character traits

it helps
I could give you better advice if you shared more about the character or what you were doing with them
Is this tha crazy man?
i'm thinking it could be the crazy man
@versed zodiac basically the crazy man has been driven mad by an artifact that someone gave to him, he's been looking for help but nobody seems to really be interested in doing so
already being kind of crazy he becomes violent when people refuse to help and then transmutes them into something else like lets say a gold statue
okay so like
you want the crazy man to come across as morally ambiguous
this is difficult because this character's motivations are pretty immediate
There's not much room for showing nuance with a guy who turns you to stone
and that's just the only thing
Moral ambiguity works best with people who have plans?
right
Or like, larger goals, stuff they're doing...
maybe i need someone else
maybe the person who gave him the amulet? what do you think?
axe murderers can't really be morally ambiguous because they're axe murderers, they do one thing and there's no grey area or way to interpret their actions really it's just axe murder [until you add more stuff for the audience to chew on than just axe murder], moral ambiguity relies on a character's actions being complex enough or at least extended enough in nature that you can waffle back on forth on whether what they're doing is understandable or not
i have a lot to learn
okay look I think the easiest way to put it is this
why is an assassin not always an evil character type but an axe murderer or a serial killer is always evil
an assassin is also "a guy who kills people" in terms of their function as a character
the answer is that assassins have a motivation that's pretty easy for the audience to interpret - they generally kill on orders, for money or an ideology or a goal
killing for money is usually parsed as objectively wrong by the audience but can be understood and even liked by the audience depending on the situation, and ideologies and goals are negotiable to the point that you can have the audience cheering for the assassin because they think the assassin is right and that their cause is worth killing people for
So going back to the crazy guy - it's hard for the characters to understand turning people to stone or gold or whatever from the jump, and it's hard for them to understand why especially if it's people trying to help the crazy guy, right?
i think i'll just not do that with the crazy guy then
i'll try to come up with someone new for this then
thanks Lunatic
And doing someone who kills out of insanity can be
fraught
think i should scrap the idea? he's not really killing anyone
as far as i know, right now it's just core, Signs of Sorcery, Night Horrors: Nameless & Accursed, and Tome of the Pentacle
not counting blue books or dark eras stuff
(blue books being generic Chronicles of Darkness books with stuff that can be used easily with any splat)
is big foot real in wod?
Yes*
I think while it's hard to make him morally ambiguous, it's more that... you can make him sympathetic. Yes the crazy guy flies into fits of rage and does bad things, but having an outside force that poisoned him, and it being him just seeking help or to warn people makes him someone that the players will feel kinda bad about putting down, but WILL put down because he's dangerous.
*there are as many bigfoots as draculas
Hey, only one of the three draculas could really be said to be a bigfoot :P
Important question: how do mummies feel towards vampires?
probably the same way they feel about any other super natural i imagine
i don't remember owod mummy bc i hated it but nwod mummy its what the fuck is this insect. begone from my temple.
which tbf is how mummys who just woke up tend to treat. everyone.
Not In My Backyard
Just woken up mummies can call meteors and horrors from the stars
that's so cool
i knew about the meteors but not about the star horrors
makes me wanna use one against my mages
then again
i better not go into yet another rabbit hole
We found a dude chained up and sedated by another vamp dude. Basically accidentally walked right into their base. Turns out chained up dude is a mummy...
The other vamps may have been trying to use a mummy's reviving soul to bring back Set?
When I played Mummy our recurring problem with Vampires is that they'd keep showing up like "aha, all these centuries later it is I who have the upper hand, you shall pay for what you did in Istanbul" and we'd be like "dude who are you"
Fair
i think i want to run a mistery that's inspired by the mysterium book
basically a writer caused weird shit to happen when we wrote stuff
i dont really wanna copy and paste everything about it
but i'm trying to figure out what could be an interest effect that could come out of my writer guy cant think of a single thing
Control and Alan Wake are good inspiration for Mage shenanigans
ooh does it have something of the sort?
also reminds me of a plot ive used based on part of the Sandman comics; in the comics, a guy called John Dee(Dr Destiny) gets hold of a magic ruby with some of Dream's power imbued in it, and uses it to drive the world mad. in the game I ran, a Mage with honestly just a lot of dots cast a spell to make everyone's greatest wish come true, without realizing that not everyone's greatest wish is good for other people
the plot of Alan Wake is essentially a writer goes on vacation to a small town in Washington, the cabin he ends up staying in is on an island in a big lake near a small town called Bright Falls, and the lake has basically a portal to pocket dimension called the Dark Place, which is home to an entity that Alan calls 'the Dark Presence' or 'Mr. Scratch'; the story Alan writes while in the cabin manifests on the surrounding area because of his proximity to the portal/Scratch
granted, Scratch also twists the story/adds his own shit to it
AW2 splits the plot between you playing Alan and an FBI agent named Saga; when you're playing Alan, one of the main mechanics is that you can change the story of an area to change what's there
(Saga's essentially just a mortal with some supernatural merits; Alan is just a mortal in the first game, but in 2 i'd say he's Awakened. feels like a Moros to me but mechanically most of what he does is Time and Forces)
Control is about a woman named Jesse who opened a portal to a pocket dimension as a kid and connected with some sort of entity she calls Polaris; the game takes place like 20 years after that starts with her entering the headquarters of a government organization called the Federal Bureau of Control, which is essentially the SCP Foundation/X-Files/Project VALKYRIE/etc
and I'd say Jesse is technically mortal with endowments, I guess? cause most of the abilities you get in the game come from holding Objects of Power
Alan Wake is so damn Mage
Check out the chant as read by other characters (no audio distortion): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDWkWQTke1w
You are a worm through time.
The thunder song distorts you.
Happiness comes.
White pearls, but yellow and red in the eye.
Through a mirror, inverted is made right.
Leave your insides by the door.
Push the fingers through the surfac...
I'd argue Alan is an Arcanthus, but that's more his concern with stories, narratives and him fighting the fate he/scratch has written for him
He's fighting some kind of supernal entity via duelling Fate and Time magic, imo
i tend to avoid casting characters as an Acanthus unless they're actually directly dealing with time/fate fuckery, because acanthus is kind of just an easy answer for 'protagonist shit'
Lmao I get that
Acanthus fits best here I would say mainly due to the fact that Alan's entire story is ABOUT narrative
And that is indeed Fate
in the first game he doesn't interact with time/fate at all other than finding the manuscript pages, which are mostly just Scratch taunting him. the main 'magical' thing he does is using the flashlight to weaken the Taken
in the second game, he has the writer's room and the lamp; the writer's room is extremely Time based, but it's also all technically ||happening within the Dark Place, which is either in the Underworld, a Lower Depth, or even an Abyssal Verge, depending on how you want to interpret things||. the lamp is either Forces or Death, and theoretically Time
fair
I still have no idea of the kind of spells to expect from acanthus
and i have one
I just thought of something
Maybe i could have my special writer be a musician instead?
And the reason things happen when you play his music is due to some supernal or abyssal creature that whispers it to them?
Maybe that's too basic idk
I was thinking of "The music of Erick Zhan" when i thought of that
i strongly recommend looking into Alan Wake, because that also happens kind of
the second game has a band called the Old Gods of Asgard, and there's a couple of points in the game where their music is used to change the story
I'll make sure to look up the lore of it
Important note! Chronologically, this takes place before Chapter 4.
In this Audiolog, we linger on Boy, his... Original Fiction,
and whatever might have happened in his brain after both the Cellar Incident, and whatever he discovered was wrong with their Horse.

There's a lot of funny simularities despite the fact I have absolutely nothing to do with boy's writing
that's almost all Nost

I love vampire,,,,
heck yeah
yay yay yay yay yay
Del is on the fuckin cofd grindset lately
Making the worst person is addictive
my vampire is currently struggling with the person he was embraced with becoming steadily colder about other people's lives
It's effectively an extended fight over the time Omar called him the George W Bush of magic
which I refuse to stop referencing because I love that insult I was very proud
it’s that
i can just boil it. this is stock, comfortable cooking
See. The funny thing was, Julka didn't really have that much life to lose. Oh everybody said it must be going great for her, very good grades, very exciting. Everyone was all smiles when she told them about her choice of degree (premed, with plans for forensic medicine), the grades she got (very, very, very good), and the job prospects (government, police, a few private security firms). My goodness, one would think, this girl is going places. They would then, unfortunately, ask why a shy and nervous young woman like Julka was going into such a.. strenuous field as law enforcement, even through medicine? And ah, that strained smile, the instinctive cringe of a wallflower, and she would answer- because when she saw a dead body, she felt like she had to know what happened.
im cooking

It was the place the Almighty had seemingly allotted just for her. Julka didn't have that much life to lose when something dead took it from her.```
Vampire! It’s easy to make weird awful people
True
ehhh she was pretty bad at the beginning
Oh hey I get to meet yet another member of that channel
I'll have the whole set soon
I talked to Nostalgia in the civviecord
A little? I’m dumping konebeni in there too, for flavor
a little Kobeni in my life
a little bit of Temperance by my side
a little mystery of the voivode
kobeni is why this lady gives me a weird desire to pet and take care of them but also that if I touched them they'd be some kind of strange venomous sea anemone
she's going to inject you with her blood while you're asleep, she wants to see what happens to your dreams.

She would like Omar's jar full of werewolf infected blood after he got bitten to shit
Omar is a bit of a scientist himself.
But he's the test subject
oh no, so uh
Requiem, so she's Ordo Dracul- she's studying the Mysteries of the Dragon. The Mystery of the Voivode is about understanding the inherent power of the blood. Its Bonds. Its offspring. The chains of bloodline that creates kingship.
It's so fun
Had a great time playing a Nosferatu whose standby tactic was "point my Beast in a direction and let it take the wheel"

Ordo dracul, circle and lancea are cool
have ya'll seen the fun of Colonies yet bc that is a VERY funny alt-rule that they handed me to use and
lord its good
lets make the vampires into a primative hive-mind of chained Beasts
The Guide to the Night they put out for 2e has so many fun lil widgets in it
Not into the "pure politics" splats?
Carthian Law is the funniest blood magic
Correct
yoooo nice
eyyyy
which one is u
I love them
I find it tremendously amusing that Ordo Dracul elders can just ... not have the same problems as other elders
"Yeah no I can still drink whatever"
When I first encountered them I was like, "Why don't all vampires just do this?" And it turns out the reason is "Not everyone wants to be in a weird mystery cult."
cowards
You guys gotta guess which one is mine
Nevada
I also think it's nevada

I was going to make a mage detective npc
But realized thats just.john constantine
Now im not sure i wanna
I can give you a character idea for someone who can do investigations
so they're not just police detective
One of my favourites is the idea of someone being a Hotel Detective
i'm listening
they just hang around hotels in plain clothes and investigate
It may be because I love this song

Have you ever thought about the graveyards of New Orleans
The earth will not take the dead, you dig six feet down, you hit seawater
And so in most places, within walking distance, a graveyard
At least in older parts of town
It takes up a city block, a series of little huts and hovels meant for the dead who can’t rest in the soils embrace
What dwells here, among rain-stained granite and rusty puddles under the names of the entombed?
have a knife, it came from a kitchen when the river swallowed up houses, see stainless steel go dull and brittle
Many Gilgameshes
And all of them are probably wrong
How so?
He was probably a secret third thing or just a guy or completely made up
Oh

I am also just terminally good guy-brained so the ability to drink animal blood at higher potency seems all-important to me >_>
Wait where is that liver thing?
I wanna brainstorm some npc ideas!
New players are about to meet the orders
Tell me ideas
silly ideas are welcome
i have a favorite npc to use that originated as a GotV character i played
shadow name Asmodeus(true name Jack, last name has varied but usually something like Solomon, Myrddin, etc), originally wore a white mask like the Nameless Ghouls from Ghost(during Papa IIIs time as the lead singer)
Mind-focused Mastigos, variably either a police detective or private detective(original was a cop but that was a while ago, i lean more toward private detective at this point)
usually part of the Bene Ashmedai, but Clavicularius works too
personality-wise, generally a smartass that's good at reading people and manipulating them

I actually wanted a privatr detective npc
i also had an idea the other day for an Arrow mage that uses Matter to give himself stone boxing gloves/gauntlets/whatever
(also, Asmodeus in the game I originally played him in briefly also adopted the Mask of Bacchus, which involved making a new mask to wear as well
iirc that one was carved from wood, while the Asmodeus mask was supposed to be plastic; it was only briefly because like, a session or 2 after i bought the merit dots to represent Bacchus, the GM decided to end the game)
adamantine arrow is pretty cool, i have a strong man shadow named Plato cause he's beeg like Plato
he's also with the arrow
don’t remember! but it rings
It’s from a storytellers guide from 1e?
I'm thinking of the fucked up spirit that lets humans remove their organs and use them to generate Essence, be immortal, and also escape into a hell blood dimension
Blood dimension sounds like the lamprey hosts
BLOOD
i need some inspiration for fae characters
someone is summoning a fairy!
Summoning huh? What kinda summoning
they are mostly going to fuck around and find out i wasnt expecting it...one of the player characters found out they could summon shit and decided "imma summon a fairy
"
they still have to find out some stuff about it (AKA me not actually remembering all the rules)
but i know this friend of mine she's super excited about trying it
Is this Mage?
yes
Aight. Mage fae have their heads less up their asses than True Fae, and care about the integrity of fate and time
They're still dangerous abd whimsical beings
is the thing about avoiding giving true names and other kind of punishments still a thing with these?
It's mage, you should avoid giving your true name on a matter of principle.
are they summoning a supernal fae or a hedge fae, that's the real question
presumably supernal since that's just, a thing that acanthus mages can do
(same for mastigoi and demons, obrimoi and angels, etc)
supernal!
since arcadia from mage is different form the one in changeling the lost i separated them
supernal fae come in 2 flavors; Anachronisms(or Cronies) and Moirae
Anachronisms are the embodiments of Time, and as their name implies will almost never look like they belong in the time period they're summoned to, but may be of any age or even both young and old at the same time, and often manifest with imagery associated with the passage of time(clocks, beating hearts, hourglasses, etc). They have an unparalleled understanding of Time and how it works, able to travel through it or manipulate it freely
Moirae are the embodiments of Fate, and can appear as basically anything, often changing their appearance in the blink of an eye. They similarly have an unparalleled understanding of Fate, which includes chance, destiny, and everything else that falls under the Arcanum's purview. They always speak the truth, but their truths are often unpleasant or harmful. These are the ones most likely to take something said as literal and use it against the speaker, such as by treating it as an oath
found this, might be useful https://bobcarbon.github.io/cod-supernal-gen/
thanks Rats
Lower depth monster who comes from a world without Mind and they have Doctor Who Silence rules
For the unaware, you can only remember the silence as long as you look at them. You forget when they leave your line of sight, and remember when they return
The silence also make you follow their orders

CtL thoughts: okay so you've been kidnapped by an evil fairy and things are real bad, then in through the window comes your fetch who has gone through all kinds of wild fantasy adventures and become a total badass and they help you escape and I'm sorry wait what
What
What
Is this anything
Was reminded of The Moorchild, which involves less being a badass but does involve a changeling getting back the babe she was left to replace
No
IIRC (in WtA anyway) it reverts back to whatever the breed form is
"
🤝 look at this severed hand i found "
Naturally if the character is Crinos-born this makes it an even bigger veil danger

(Note that Crinos-born are a Legacy thing)
hi voy
Hey Fox
Also btw @mighty zephyr
Dunno if this would be a fun fact for you
But i was watching Hunter the parenting during my wisdom teeth removal
they had a TV there
Thought it would at the very least interesting
did you put it on or was it just
happened to be on
Were you able to appreciate it?
Just recalling that when I had mine taken out I was, to put it gently, high as balls.
curse of fox
we dont get that here .w. just the anesthesia
so having that to distract me helped
even the dentist was interested
i think he has a son in law as well
dont think he will but would be neat!
Do you know about the Ordo Dracul?
The Ordo Dracul claim to be a lineage of vampiric ascetics practicing a system pioneered by Dracula
(There are currently at least three vampires who credibly claim to be Dracula)
Their training allows them superior control of the vampiric condition — their own, and, sometimes, that of others
They can better control their hungers, and the beast, can ameliorate some physical weaknesses, and that’s just the core book
They lack the outrageous magical powers of some covenants, but
They are sort of Better At Vampire
the vampiric blood alchemy
in contrast to catholic vampire magic, vampire witchcraft, and magic vampire politics
They’re not nice people, but a vampire seeking to be nice would be well-served to study their ways
Because they can, for instance, restrict their feeding to animals much longer than most vampires
Is Dracula also hated in chronicles?
the Ordo Dracul are pretty funny for being basically cultivators
practice Internal Blood Alchemy (having a functional circulatory system)
Goodness no. Like we’ve all said there’s three potentials
Hollywood Drac, Count Motherfucking Dracula, and a guy in Romania whose shadows and blood have seeped into an old-castle town
Yeah the Ordo Dracul claim Dracula was uniquely struck down by God and that his Brides continued on his work
And their life's work is to spit in the eye of God.
So tie that neonate down to the surgical table, slice open his stomach and force feed him vitae to see what it does
We got a Curse to break
uniquely struck down by God huh, brutal
I do love that Count Motherfucking Dracula specifically claims to be Count Dracula and not actually Dracula
It's a hereditary title, and he's the oldest surviving descendent of Dracula which, by default, makes him Count.
He's also this terrifying eight-foot-tall leather clad Gangrel that looks exactly like what you'd think a modern vampire should look like, but avoids any obvious Masquerade breaches because 'vampires don't exist.'
There's at least 3 vampires who claim to be Dracula at any time
And also rumors that the Unholy was one of his brides
that just makes me think they are like ed edd and eddy
You're actually more right than you think.
oh dear
Coterie idea: everyone is Dracula
Thr unholt?
Embouchure (English: /ˈɒmbuˌʃʊər/ ) is the use of the lips, facial muscles, tongue, and teeth in playing a wind instrument. So you see, it really is a good line.

Haunted by Draculas...
*draclias
The Unholy is sort of a Kindred Boogieman.
Well, Boogiewoman
Gangrel, probably the oldest active vampire most have heard of, and old to the point that she has to specifically drink Kindred vitae to keep going. Which she happily does, because she finds hunting other vampires fun.
Hence the boogiewoman status
Domains have generally stopped trying to kill her and now basically treat her like an incoming hurricane. As in 'issue warnings, batten down the hatches, and hold out until she leaves again.'
Just drinks, or diablerie?
Six of one, half dozen of the other.
"Everyone Is John Dracula"
& yeah the Unholy is the Gangrel signature character
Lady with feathers and crow talons for hands

Noice
doot doo doo, gotta make up a bloodline for my awful little failgirl
im giving her Nightmare i just have to figure out how to do the "turn undead real" weakness i want to give her in exchange
since it seems like they pulled out fear frenzy? or i have to go reread the book bc my first idea was "if someone presents a symbol of faith at you aggressively, roll to avoid fear-frenzy as though it were fire"
bc. its funny to give a mehket the ability to literally pull your nightmares out of your head
there's still all the usual dice modifiers that went with fear frenzy, they just dont separate the info on different kinds of frenzy out in the 2e core book
@chilly vault what vamp clans do ya have in requiem?
We've got Daeva, i.e. The Hot Ones
We've got Gangrel, who have somewhat stronger animalistic traits
We've got Nosferatu, although they're not super disfigured like in Masquerade, taking modest social penalties instead
We've got ... Mekhet? Who are stealthy and observant
We've got Ventrue, who can access the vampire art of mind control
Clan is typically not as big a deal in VtR as in VtM
is blood magic a thing in requiem?
In a bunch of different ways, yeah
The Lancea Sanctum, the Vampire Catholics, and the Circle of the Crone, the Vampire Afro-Caribbean Religion, both have fancy blood magic
I don't remember everything offhand but I think it could get pretty wild
Right, i was thinking of having a vamp bad guy who has an artifact that makes their blood magic stronger
i'll probably get stuff from requiem then
There's probably other blood magic too, VtR let vampires get weird a lot
The book Blood Sorcery has the rules you’ll want
Do you guys have like a game going on?
Foxy does im just cookin

we cook the silliest of billies in here
Blood Sorcery is the name btw
tbh im not super familiar with the book so im not sure what delilah is referring to
im just acknowledging that there is a book called Blood Sorcery
i'll just have to get it for myself then
Gotchu
It divides both Cruac and Theban Sorcery into THEMES that help define what a ritual actually does/is capable of, with the assumption that a character buys dots in the theme rather than purely in the sorcery
For example an Acolyte might have Cruac 3 (2 Destruction, 1 Transmutation), which lets them do rank 2 destruction theme rituals and rank 1 transmutation

big oof from my v5 game
he had another one later onhttps://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/496363167384076298/1312623004135719083/image.png?ex=674d2aef&is=674bd96f&hm=717e8b667d1d223c353926a02ed2617e0fdc61081a7cfce340c94fffcbac4a70&

what would you call a cabal of mages who's deal is forging magical tools and weapons?
i got the idea while listening to a work song from warframe
for those who dont know forging requires a rythm
so i they are also musicians
also i wonder....in chronicles is it possible for supernaturals to mix themselves and make an all unique group?
They can't stack major templates (like werepire)
They can form factions mixing different gamelines
A werewolf pack will easily accept mages, vampires, sin-eaters
Prometheans do hang out with hunters for a bit

WE ALL LIFT
YES
It's possible but there may be challenges in doing so
Splats are often cautious about mixing and getting involved with outside-context problems
that's fair
i do imagine that it could make sense for them to at least be able to make friends with someone from other splats
In part because those who are incautious may not live very long
after all
you could have a vamp friend and only find out about it after you become a wizard
Yeah, people get mixed up for sure
it should be fine as long as you dont involve each other with your own splats politics
that might be easier said than done tho
Yep
Like, if your vampire "pals" know you have a wizard friend, that might turn sour for everyone involved really quickly
even more since becoming part of a splat changes you
so a friend who becomes a vamp or a wizard might not be that good friend you once knew after the change
anyways...back to the forge subject
would you like to hear my idea for the cabal Gk?
Sure
IIRC mixing splats can also cause...sort of powerscaling issues? That classic "a werewolf beats a vampire, a human beats an unprepared mage, a prepared mage beats everyone" thing means that a problem that challenges a werewolf to solve it with punching might just annihilate a vampire.
(it's sadly defunct, but a friend of mine was doing a podcast for a while about using mixed splats in a town they built using The Deep Forest https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-chimera/id1259343855) (the non-Gallows Hill seasons are also fun, but aren't WoD)
there's the Contagion Chronicle books for intentional crossover games, fwiw
Arrow or Free Council would be my first bets for 'a cabal of mages who make magical tools and weapons', depending on their approach and reasoning; Arrow if they primarily make weapons and are more old-fashioned(the Arrow is big on the struggle being part of what makes shit work iirc), Free Council if they primarily make tools and use modern tech for it
i assume you're leaning towards old-fashioned since you're talking about a forge and not a workshop
as far as a name
my first thought is The Forge Gods(bonus points if their shadow names are like, Hephaestus, Daedalus, Brigh, etc mythology figures that are either actual gods of crafting or just notably good crafters/inventors)
i mixed up my real world mythology with pathfinder
Brigh is a pf deity, I was thinking of Brigid
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Smithing_gods
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Smithing_goddesses
Male gods associated with smithing.
Goddesses associated with smithing.
I do like Brigid
Also let me ping @chilly vault for this
I have the jdea for 2 of these mages who are in the cabal
The person responsible to light up the fires would be an obrimos
they would do that through the summoning of and entjty of the aether who they have a pact with, fire entity
We would also have Thyrsus who will be summoning spirits of rythm that would increase the forge's efficency since you do require a rythm when you forge
And as for the rest im unsure still
i think i want 2 more mages
@high current i'm taking your idea for shadow names! there's a bunch of celtic dieties related to craftsmanship
they are all going to be irish

also trying to plan a vamp bad guy and a huntsman from changeling who's adapting to take down mages
Ask her another question though, about what blood it is that binds the Bone Shadow and Hunter-in-Darkness. Lorraine won't answer. Its not her story to tell, only her story to enact, see? You gotta talk to Missy to learn about the blood and the blues.```
M’cookin
Hi delilah
btw
am i being mean when making my mage take a lot of damage from stuff that would probably really hurt a normal human? .w.
like lets say
getting hit by a car
do they have their anti car mage armor up?
nope
then they are mostly normal human durability
they are good at healing themselves anyway

however, if it makes sense for their mage armor to factor in, let it work
like.... Damn I forget if death works on cars or not
will do!
cars bring death
how are you ruling Dodging a car
can you dodge a car?
in this situation i would either ask for a perception check (the books says it's wits+composure) or just use the dodge rule from the book
alright so most mage armors help actually
Since you can Fate or TIme Dodge
or Space DOdge
Does death-based armor protect against death or just kill the car?
it gives you pseudo vampire defense
So kinetic attacks deal bludgeoning damage to you up your death dots and you don't pass out from bludgeoning for a while
I imagine forces also protect against a car
yes
Death makes you get hit by a car like a vampire
Fate lets the care barely miss you
Forces makes it hit for less kinetic energy
Life makes you faster and more able to dodge, and also a bit more durable
Matter makes the car soft
Mind senses a distracted/gunning for them driver and steps out of the way
Prime cant do shit because it isn't magic
Space short range teleports out of the way
Spirit covers themselves in shadow armor that pushes back against the car and basically also makes it hit like a vampire but you might get knocked out
Time predicts the car in the future
Prime is distinctively both the best thing for fighting magic, and only good for fighting other magic
against prepared mages*
catch them off-guard, without mage armor up, and they're way more vulnerable
wizards are nerds
TBF speeding cars can be plenty effective against mages, they're just not as effective as they would be against regular mortals (usually)
Like hitting a vampire with a car is pretty effective as things to hit a vampire with go
hehe
If it works well against werewolves, it's good to use
Mages can also have spirits/ghosts/goetia watching over them
what's a goetia
Ah, you forgot? Or did we never explain to you?
They're thought beings
From the astral realms
maybe i just forgot
there's just so much info on chronicles
Very rare for them to come to this world, and tgey're often unable to do much or stay here
Say, summon your trauma of being run over, or your crush on a coworker, or your vice of gluttony. Those are goetia from your mind
You stop feeling those things while those goetia are out of you
Your personal astral realm is your Oneiros
Then, we move to the collective realms
Naturally removing specific mind constructs from yourself can be useful, since they can do stuff.
The Temenos is the collective realm of humanity, divided in many overlapping parts.
If you summon something from there, you're just scrapping a bit off the entity, so it doesn't disappear from the Temenos nor affect its presence
Mastigos stuff then
The teen rebel can be found, for ecample
Anyone with mind, but mostly Mastigos yeah.
They are never caught by authority. At best, they die in the chase. And come back, of course
Goetia are hard to kill
About as hard to perma kill as Spirits, iirc.
how much in mind would you say is needed to summon one?
The realms are ways of dividing the sea of thought, and can be different divisions, with chunks of concepts actually belonging to multiple realms simultaneously.
And those chains of connections help you travel the realms

There's also the Midnight Express. The astral realm of journeys is a train crossing the temenos
where can i read more about this kind of stuff? does the mage corebook have this info?
nice nice
The 2e corebook also explains how to summon
The site codex of darkness has a reference
Goetic summons calls the nearest goetia.
+1 reach you call it from an oneiros, as long as you're somewhere you can reach the astral.
+2 reach you can call from the temenos
+3 reach you can call from the anima mundi, which I haven't explained yet
Death or spirit 2 can grant the materialized manifestation, as most goetia lack inherent manifestations
Thought goetia were even harder to kill?
still no ephemeral entities officially tied to the other 2 subtle arcana smh when will we get prime and fate entities
(in theory God-Machine Angels might be Prime, and True Fae/Huntsmen might be Fate, but afaik it's never been addressed officially)
Ctl stuff is fate plus mind
You can summon Huntsmen?
No as far as I know
I think mages can manipulate Wyrd and maybe hobgoblins?
And cast alterations on changelings
I don't have whatever book has mage changeling stuff
I have thr Hedge book which is cool for crossover stuff!
It has a section on how each super natural functions there
Tgere might be stuff in the dark eras books too
Fetches sometimes can
though summon more in the sense that they get alerted to that position
So it's more like setting up a trap
Well, fire, metal, creation/transformation, crafting
Are there rythm spirits?
i think those would be welcome too
And then there's what you're making. Armor, weapons, tools, stuff for building
Do they have shapes?
Yeah music abd dance spirits exist. One werewolf plot is about an opera spirit
Yeah. Any spirit or werewolf book will give them symbolic forms
So music spirits could be shaped like music notes while fire spirits could be little dancing flames?
A fire spirit from a firearms factory was a fire bird bird of steaming metal
He grew over time into a great suit of armor that can shapeshift weapons and goes around conquerinf werewolf packs
Why did it have against werewolves?
Linggan Zhao
His court was defeated and he was made to submit to a Forsaken pack. He never let go of his grudge and shame
He subverted and took over the pack, and later learned of an incoming Maeljin invasion upon the world. So he's setting up his personal army to fight it off
While his cause is noble. He is deeply egocentric, cruel, brutal. His process of conquering a pack involves making them sacrifice their "weak" links and those that don't fall in line
And conducting a great hunt in the shadow towards spirits tgat don't fall in line. He then brings in some spirits from his other courts to keep things running his way as he leaves for the next pack
He can still use his small form, as a bird of steaming metal. Good for moving and spying
can spirits who are not as intense and maybe even innocent be found?
Or are all of them this scary?
Hm
I'm not a specialist but basically. They often have an alien point of view, and their goals are gorging on essence, growing in power, and advancing their concepts in the world
Even a spirit that wants to help might do so in a troublesome manner
@mighty zephyr Would you be kind so as to contribute?
Spirits are all kind of scary
how do mages even forge alliances with them?
They want to have the thing that they are around as much as possible
All spirits are inherently predatory
One touchstone example is a wolf spirit that honestly advises you to abandon everything and live in the firest, running free
Cause now im having a hard time figuring out how my npc would have some helping them
And all of them essentially have the logic of "expand my influence = good"
It really does want to help you
Also, all spirits are transactional
They will instinctively make deals
And will do things in gratitude. Though they may only do that after randomly remembering it years later. No idea where this example is, sorry
So one of the reasons that Werewolves don't like Spirit Mages is that they can just force spirits to do things
I see...guess i found my justification?
