foiled again
Other than having the pdfs for warcom missions xP
Well, an actual scientist
Those are the same thing haha
All scientists are hereteks however not all hereteks are scientists
Some hereteks' method is "let's put a daemon in it"
I think there is also a thing going on where most tech-priests are actually some level of heretek (particularly moreso the higher rank they are) which probably doesn't help if they want to make noises about cawl lol
strictly speaking you're only a heretek if you're from the forge world of heretopia. otherwise it's just sparkling mad science
The most boring dark mechanicum world is the one where they are all concerned about good study design
"I want more spikes on my armor"* We can't add more spikes without inhibiting your ability to aim
Make the gun aim itself
aim?
This worked really well until the CSM started to demand spikes on the gun
spikes on the reticle!
If Darktide was about heretics, it'd definitely do that
cram a daemon in it you say
Anyone have tips for dealing with necron destroyer lists?
i dont really play the tabletop but im curious! Is that destroyer cults?
it's a thematic team where the whole army is destroyers and flayed ones
wiped csm off of the table yesterday
Destroyers are very very good at destroying marine infantry
Depends on how the person is running them
As a necron player I can tell you, don't split fire on us and kill our characters.
Shoot to kill and eliminate
Idk what CSM have as snipers/ can shoot with precision but use that
You know, one thing I've grown to love about the 40k community online is how often people pop up like "Okay, yeah. This is how you totally destroy my army". Especially prevalent amongst the non-Imperial factions and I love it
No one analyzes the strength and weaknesses of an army or list than the people playing it
I see people in the Tau subreddit all the time that are like "My buddy plays tau and he keeps kicking my marines' collective ass, what do?" And that thread immediately spawns, like, fifty in depth replies about general counters and specific weaknesses of the buddy's list and it's glorious.
lol
(We don’t do a ton of that but precision in melee is more common)
Melee the heavy destroyers. Shoot the skorptek
old classic, "how do i beat tau?" = "Pretty much just get into melee, they get folded like an omelette"
Deep strikes and prioritizing our support units, pretty much
Each and every person in the Imperium divides their fellow Imperials into three distinct categories: "unrepentant heretics whose existence is fundamentally offensive to every principle worth holding," "self-destructive fanatics whose refusal to make common sense allowances is fundamentally incompatible with reality," and "me"
I mean in a shooting brawl tau looses
lock t'au down into a shootin brawl
Hey, give them more credit, there's also "people I seem to agree with but I'll keep an eye on to see which of the first two categories they actually fall into"
oh I shoul've mentioned, I'm playing gsc, csm was a different player
what if I don't have good shooting? My list is biosanctic and that's a big part of my points
Some would argue "useful idiot" to be a distinct category but further analysis will reveal them to be grouped into one of the first four
and apparently h'es done a ton of damage with overwatch through weght of fire
I have to admit I don't biosantic means
Well, maybe if they're actually big enough idiots not to question "me" about what is or isn't heretical.
Wait, what's going on with the administratum?"
Don't worry about it babe.
Yay.<3```

whats the detach actually do as a benefit?
Charge buffs for aberrants biophagus and stealers
hmm im wondering if theres anyway to fit a broodlord in
broodlords be very scary on purestrains
but it doesnt looks like theres any simple way to do that
I have a patriarch which is our broodlord equivalent
+1 to charge rolls and attacks from a charge to Abberants, purestrains, biophagus and units with an attached biophagus
ahh and on ther opposing team, many skorpekhs?
i think tactically i think its largely about getting your charges off
Skorpecs, heavy destroyers and flayed ones
I fucking love ratling guns
hell yeah congrats!
Nice!
I wanna run Wrath & Glory but one of my partners isn't as into 40k
That is very reasonable

That too yeah
Bodies wouldn't fix their soulless problem
Might for the next generation
would they also be giving the necron warriors bodies?
"hahahaha, we have been given bodies again and now our numbers shall grow even further. We are unstoppable"
"Wait, what do you mean our new peons have personalities and wants"
Yeah that's then other thing
I think more so the nobility and scientists want bodies again (and thw ability to make more necron warriors and slaves)
*some
The other thing I'd say is that the necrons actually probably have adapted to being the robots for so long that I don't think they can go back and be functional a society made of flesh
Going to be some really awkward family dinners with the destroyer cult family numbers after some necrons get their bodies back
Define functional
Does more than ruinously continue itself
Craftworld Eldar, Drukhari, Tau.
Leagues of Votan
Tau, Ork, Tyranids?
It is functioning.
I'd probably have accepted orks because they're having fun with it even if it sucks
It's not healthy, but Drukhari are functioning.
I went looking for a "weak aura, strong aura" meme for the destroyer being strong aura. Surprisingly I did not find one
LoV are ruining themselves with the whole overwhelming the votann memory thing
true
Tyranids are idk
Some of them are sapient and intelligent but also they're kinda one hungry fella playing touys
Tyranids are the stretch/second joke answer
I don't think the nids would have anything we call a society.
In much the same way you don't say a human body is a functioning society.
I would not say tyranids have a "society". hierarchy yeah but not society
(the real answer is that there are probably at least 3 functional societies amongst all the random worlds in the Imperium. But they are also probably the ones that Imperium is most likely to invade lol)
Yeah the imperium probably has planets which count even if they don't
I have always wondered, are there farmers on craft worlds?
Yes.
Oh, I guess you can also probably go with
Tau, the other tau, orks
Do the farsight enclaves want to reintegrate with the wider tau if they overthrow the ethereals?
I... think so?
Would "provide entertainment to its people" be considered a metric?
Of functionality
I guess "civil war" is in a weird place regarding "separate societies", though it has been a long time. Like longer than NK and SK have been split right?
I will say the Dark Eldar are functional. Deeply unhealthy, but functional.
I don't agree at all lol
They'd have a real bad time if they didn't basically have post-scarcity supertech
So, craft world eldar, assumingly exodites but saying "society" for them is so so, orks, and tau
Also, isn't Commorragh falling apart?
It's worse than that
I'm also using this as a basis for it
It's like magnagothica maleghast where part of the city is sliding into hell
Since the imperium has lurched around for 10,000 years despite being comically dysfunctional
There is a great deal of ruin in a galactic empire
Fair
I'm unsure of whether to count CWE. They know they aren't sustainable but I'm not sure how much that's purely due to outside threats
Bureaucratic inertia is a hell of a thing
I know very little about exodites but I feel like GW doesn't want to think about them for a long time lol
AFAIK the CWE are sustainable they just have higher aspirations
Oh, they are just really sad about how much they have fallen?
Is a soul stone reusable we have to ask
I would expect no, but I've never heard about issues of capacity in the infinity circuit
I think they grow into spirit stones when attached or something
It's kinda unclear
Eldar would rather be really sad for ten thousand years than see a therapist
Then they cannot produce a good they need to survive
Every Aeldari stands on a precipice of being really sad and wanting to master the sword about it for a thousand years
I thought it was the crone world has them laying about
Yeah that's where they get new ones
But I'm not sure if they're one use or just needed to have a larger supply
Though they don't need soulstones to survive as a society. Though it'd really suck for morale if they run out I'm sure
I think its important for the purpose of their society
But they can get more it's just something you need sad swordmasters for
Lexicanum says they are grown but also a primary source is crone worlds so ??? on if that means they can increase the total supply
Also, these things have three different names: spirit stones, way stones and soul stones lol
finally
It's just the head which is really similar - the armor is pretty different except for the boob
I like how they brought that head back, its a great look for the children
for the children is the funniest way you could have phrased that
Preorders next week it looks like?
War walkers in boxes of 2 which makes me think they could be run in squads
3x2 war walkers seems silly
handsome boi
really liking the point to classic 40K art "sculpt that" model direction they've been doing
I'm a bit surprised they haven't gotten, like, a Kill Team
the problem with kill team is that you couldn't do space elves riding dinosaurs
which is like 90% of the exodite vibe
You could 100% do space elves with space dinosaurs
I guess you could do a single big model like the GSC patriarch
Riding might be a little harder but probably works in KT
Kinda wish the deathsworn pack
Kit was less expensive. We’d love to use it for a hounds of morkai squad
Exodites with smaller dinosaurs that they direct would be appropriate for KT, I think.
I think like 40% of teams have doggies of some kind so it could work well
They have like, idk 3 velociraptors that they sick'em on people.
Now I gotta check
Ok not 40%
yellow is for teams with a weird little guy but not a dog
(squigs count)
now they have released the humanoid cultists with lore, emperors children, death guard and world eaters
there are functional chaos planets
that self reproduce culture and industrial output
I was setting the bar a little higher but I think there's some places in the Screaming Vortex which count anyway
id put them ahead of the imperium as they have internally consistant meritocratic upward mobility
its a different and to us often nightmare fucked up system
but like
thats one up on the imperium whose nightmare fucked up system is inconsistent and largely non functional
Yeah like if you get past the trade in souls Q'Sal is actually very nice
yeah
way better than like commoragh
or the average productive imperial world with a militarum tithe
on the subject of kill team, i had an idea for an event i could try and put together for a local group
i buy a bunch of leftover bits and sprues and job lots off of ebay, then put them all into a collective gubbins box and get together to build orkish killteam proxies out of them
so i've been thinking a lot about which ones might be the most proxy-able
lots of them do have weird little guys associated with them, and if there's just one or two they could be reinterpreted as grots or squigs
Like... most of them? Imperium of Man (we can count various (sub)sectors and planets individually if you like?), T'au Empire, Any given ork clan, The Leagues of Votann
None of them are particularly healthy societies, but they're functional.
there's more to it than "not everyone is dead"
Orks simply functionm
ork kultur does what they want it to do
Also considering how war just makes even more orks
They seem to have adapted pretty well to the crazyness
Yeah orks probably count as functional just because they're psychologically disposed to like bad things
From tempura.person
Wait I don't know this lore super well what's the hypocrisy here?
In Crisis of Faith, Khorne shows farsight a vision of himself being a champion of khorne after he slaughters a lot of demons who were coming out of a portal, attempting to coerce him to be a champion
Farsight says nuh uh and doesn't get influenced
So there is a required element of magic for Khorne.
How else are you gonna make those Daemon Weapons and summon his legions, after all?
Khorne makes an exception for magic being used in the creation of weapons, and that's been a long-established bit of lore.
He thinks any other use beyond weapon-making and summoning is for cowards.
Using a magic axe to cut through armor is cool, but using magic to circumvent armor is bad
Isn't Khorne's issue like using combat spells instead of being appropriately slicy
Yeah.
So using magic for weapons, or even defensive warding is fine, but no magic missiles of you're a world-cosmic coward
Khorne wants you to spill blood, and he wants you to use the weapon yourself. That could be an axe or a pistol, doesn't really matter the tool, but ultimately it's about the user doing it through their own physical actions.
Casting some force lightning lacks that personal element and he hates that shit.
I feel like Khorne should be ok with stuff like Hammerhand and Warp Time too
But complaining that the chaos gods are inconstant is silly
There is also that one Gaunt's Ghost book with Khornate blood magic
My magic spell is throwing my chainaxe at you
behold my spell
He'd probably be tolerable towards spells that enhance one's physical abilities. Blood magic is mostly for summoning I think, and uh I guess locating targets (good in Khorne's eyes, means you can kill them quicker).
AoS Slaughterpriests are different as it's mostly prayers to Khorne and him giving out gifts as necessary/based on whims.
Yeah I think it makes more sense in AoS because of how magic kinda work
But it feels a little weirder with 40k psychic stuff
40k has a whole "if I believe it, it's true" thing going on.
You should be able to use some one else's blood to do magic. You put in the work to get that blood
Also, I'm sure if you wired up a tzeech sorcerer into a weapon that caused them immense pain and used that to power/ make ammo, khorne also cool with that
There's precedent for khorne being cool with weapons made with/from foes
Khorne's not one for suffering or torture, really. That's delaying the inevitable. Slaanesh on the other hand...
Khorne would just love a weapon which just fucking kills its Tzeentchian wielder though
There's of course a spectrum of acceptability, but in general khorne is no sadist nor a masochist. Brutality is OK
As long as you do it in service of a goal and not for itself, you can torture away!
My new years resolution has to be to paint more because I totally just caved on all the new Aeldari kits
There's also the Blood Pact witches in the Gaunt's Ghosts stuff
Who are pretty much on the level of "Blood ritual to find the stuff for the rest of the warband to kill"
And Khorne is apparently okay with this
Also somebody nails it
un-nuln them
I like both of those paint schemes a lot
Slaanesh needs a paint scheme that's so loud you can hear it from the other room.
i like to think a noise marine makes music if you hit them
still like my idea of Black Templars fallen to Slaanesh who became Noise Mariens
the Knights In Slaanesh's Service
||KISS||
There was a great EC army I saw with 3 vindicators with crazy freehand
But I can't find the pics now
u own any painted minis Cyan?
Not enough day-glo it needs to be even more searing
We can’t let 90s fashion beat us, we can go gaudier
love it
Calls their psykers "pinball wizards."
You heard of non metallic metallic, gret ready for non black light black light
Won my game, payloads 60/5
Could have gone the other way if not for some good rolls
I was not expecting how tanky necron destroyers are, survived biosanctic charges from both purestrain and abberant blocks
Did our advice help?
I realized I had to get super aggressive and turn two made a ton of important charges
Absolute bloodbath of a game, it was essentially payload race, but my deep strokes and charges let me grab his and throw it into his deployment zone alongside taking out many of his smaller objective units
hell yeah 🤘
Hey Warp Spiders fans!
Oh wait she got shown off in Nov and I forgot
i think we got the model before but not the name
I do love the original EC colours, but parts of me would love to copy the scheme from this album.
and feels like it would be easy to 3d print the speakers for the tank.
I think this is mostly just to show some lore about her and say that they have hinted about her for a while
I am normal about warp spiders
I am normal about shock and awe charge tactics
Lhykis is such a sick model
Right we knew custodes were a very good $/points army but we didn’t realize they were this good
The combat patrol is 780 points on its own
And it’s 14 models
ooh, nice
warp spiders are nifty
What's a good way to store terrain efficiently?
I have a little now and I was ambushed by how much space it takes up lol
How much do you care about the paint job
Because I think otherwise the answer is either "not really" or something that is decided on at the terrain design phase
A nonzero amount but I've got varnish for that
Best Coast Pairings: Competitive events, made easier
Kill team standings
Mostly usual suspects but
nice dude
Storing terrain is going to be determined by how much you're playing at home and how much space you have.
If it's a lot of little stuff, say for skirmishes/KT, then some plastic bins will suffice. If you have a lot more or plan to, then a storage rack isn't a bad idea--you can leave it on there when not in use.
Yeah I'll probably just need to get some big tubs
You can put it all in a box less carefully. Though you'll probably want to reapply varnish more often if you do that. And then yeah, tubs works for that
I also like how Deathwatch went from not existing to winning LVO (apparently with a list that was very good at killing marines, which is funny lore wise)
Oops, wrong message to quote
oh haha
Huh, does red mean a loss? What is the tournament format? I'm surprised the top player lost a game
Is this for the KT standings?
Yeah
I am failing at finding clear information about the format. Apparently the first couple days there were pods that played each other and then everyone played each on Sunday. Not sure why this means you could lose a match but still win the tournament.
I’ll also note that it looks like no one went lossless
Yeah. But the normal grand tournament setup makes that impossible I think?
Damn what're the odds?
I dunno, ask the Space Wolf player who fired exactly that many missiles at my Soul Grinder back in 4e and failed to do anything.
Most wargame tournaments arent elimination brackets right
And if no one won every one of their games then yeah
Also about how many points they win by
Yeah it’s usually some kind of round robin
Usually points based, in my experience
I think it’s record followed by points but no one went 6-0
So it was like a 6 way tiebreak by points
Usually closer to a Swiss system than a true round robin
In a true round robin everyone has a turn playing everyone else
Which takes FOREVER in large tournaments
Oh yeah that’s more accurate
In a full Swiss tournament you play until you have just one undefeated player, but if you only have time for 6 rounds that means you can only do 64 entrants
If this ended in a six way tie after six rounds that implies they had between 256 and 512 players, probably around 350 give or take
It was 9 rounds but I’m not sure what the format was
"I fired a total of TEN Seeker Missiles at this thing, what do you mean it only lost 3 wounds?"
i dont think ive literally ever seen a hunter killer work
The average output of a HK missile is less than one wound
#1161730220164911187 message
OPR stuff for Guard players if that tickles your fancy
Which is weird because, statistically, they should be putting in a not-insignificant amount of work
Why are HKs so bad now?
My memory of them goes to like 4e automatically where they were all 1 shot krak missiles and had to be respected haha
It's just the weight of dice. You need to hit, wound, pierce armour, and roll damage.
The toughness change might have been bad for them. But they are mostly unreliable (but are free now)
4+ to hit? 50% chance to connect. A generous 3+ to wound? Now we're at 33% chance. -3 ap against def 2+ in cover? How we're at a 16% chance to connect. Average damage of 3.5 on a d6? 0.58 wounds on an average shot.
That's into a target you typically want to shoot with this. Sure you could have a 3+ to hit, and they could also not be in cover. It doesn't dramatically change how anemic it is.
Oh. They are S14. So probably ok with the toughness change?
Without Take Aim, you lose 50% of them off the top. And then you lose about 33% of the remainder against most tanks. Assuming that tank then has a natural 2+ and no invuln, you lose another third, so that's... five percent of them that hit deal damage?
... man, mathammer is depressing
So at a 5% chance to do damage per missile, the odds of shooting off 25 and getting no damage is 27.7%
I mean, that feels so wrong that I'm saying take that math with a grain of salt, because I think I may have made a mistake
No that's plausible
I somehow missed that they only hit on a 4+ now
And with the new* tanks you can't just get lucky
*these aren't actually new rules now
i mean, they're totally free though, so you just get to volley some and see if you get lucky
(i still wish combi weapons had like a uniform profile that had the one shot tag alongside a regular gun profile
Hunter-Killers are 4+, S14, AP-3, D6
Seekers are 4+, S14, AP-3, D6+1
Imperial Guard 🤝 T'au Empire
Twinsies
Yeah it's just a different story from their 4e era when they were like... scary and like 25 pts a pop
BS5, S8, AP3 and you might get lucky and end a land raider's whole career with any one of them
killing vehicles in general is very different than it used to be
HKs and seekers were only ap3 no? S8, ap3
I forget how much armour a land raider had
I still remember old Gauss rule
AV14 on all faces
desperately shoving every ounce of anti-infantry you could find into a necrons list because you'd just point fuckin warriors at tanks and blow em up
But they could crit and immobilize it and then you can impolitely ignore it for the rest of the game
I had one work back in 7th lol
I had to watch out for them because I played speed freeks
And that meant a lot of vehicles which do not appreciate accurate krak missiles
maths
Huh. With the ten Seekers in my current list, I can expect one impact that deals d6+1 damage maybe once every two games. Assuming I fire all my Missiles in one game.
This sucks. I want to go back in time to when I didn't understand math and probability in games, please.
Sand that gets turned into silicon agrees with you.
Vehicles generally being tougher to kill is a good thing I think
Definitely
Yeah, and I get that AT weapons are balanced. But it just feels bad purely looking at the math (without buffs)
It has to feel terrible for Opp when I deep strike a unit of tank-killer suits right next to their land raider and pop it in one turn
A sunforged unit with a commander deepstriking
Is very funny and painful
I deep striked a sunforge squad on top of a land raider in a 1k game. Deleted it with only that unit (not counting the Pathfinders guiding it). A sad day, to be sure.
You seen my 1k list?
Probably not.

Behold mecha spam
Very similar to mine.
Ooh what's our difference?
I'm a little bit more combined arms
White Squad:
- Ethereal (Warlord) (Gun/Gun)
-- Strike Team (Gun/Guardian)
Blue Squad - Fireblade (Exemplar of the Mont'Ka) (Gun/Gun)
-- Breacher Team (Gun/Guardian)
Red Squad
-- Sunforge Suits, (Gun/Shield[Shas'vre Marker/Shield])
Orange Squad
-- Starscythe Suits (Gun/Shield[Shas'vre Marker/Shield])
Uncoded Squads:
Stealth Suits (Gun/Shield) (Shas'vre holds the Fusion and the BSS)
Pathfinder Team (Recon/Gun/Guardian) (2 Rail, 1 Ion)
Ghostkeel (Ion Raker, Twin-linked Fusion)
Hammerhead (Railgun, Smart Missile System)
... huh looking at the lists again, I guess we're not actually similar. I blame The Tired.
My list is kinda built entirely around the love of battlesuits
I like floaty combined arms
Huh
New army ability with the codex
I only skimmed it
But it seems neat and probably less headache inducing for the balance team
so are war walkers like the standard heavy fire support platform for the regular eldar military/non aspect warriors?
The new Aeldari army ability is weird because you get six special stratagems that you spend special cp on.
Thats kinda how ossiarch bonereapers worked before
Interesting that none of the battle focus abilities are jump shoot jump
Less concern of replacing a busted ability with a different busted ability
Fade Back seems like a less aggravating version of that
Fade back is way less powerful and also a pretty common ability this edition
Though being able to do it with anyone and not a specific unit is good
Huh. I didn't think move on being shot was common
Actually, surge moves are common I just put them into a different category for silly reasons in my head
finally, aquaman primaris lieutenant
Look even if they did show up and this was the start of it, it'll stretch out into like 80-100 books and a few thousand years easy.
Surge move on wraithguard seems fun

🪓
Oh hey. You can see the print lines with this one
Also I thought
For a moment
But nah. I'll bet AOS
It's either the sea elves for AOS or Alpha Legion.
am i inventing memories or was there some omegon indication at some point
Yeah there was a bident which looked a lot like his iirc
Really cool how that book followed up on what happened to the lions
My Sailor T'auts are actually coming along real nice... I should learn Kill Team. 😛
this weeks trident could be the forgotten 3rd alpha legion primarch, Mu
Huh, turns out the old 40K Freeblade game is still listed on the App Store. Honestly thought it had gone the way of the dodo
Thing’s old enough that its in game advertising is pre-CK getting their own models
Tridents could also be IDK which we know is coming soon.
it could be I Dont Know
Autarch can lead aspects let's gooo
Oh is there more news?
Strands of fate is completely different but also is like 4 free cp which is still good
The aspect warrior tokens finally have a purpose.
And the aspects detachment is pretty nasty especially if PLs still give +1 to hit
Idoneth Deepkin
Aquatic Elven Zombies that steal souls
Okay so that one seems too close
Like just
Also saw
🙂
Spiders look pretty crazy even losi g dev wounds
Though the jump is more dangerous
Chat I came up with a brilliant gambit allowing them to add female space marines to the setting without changing the lore or even needing a major excuse
grabs mic
Transgender
lmao
How has no one thought of this before/j
I think that would cause a bigger shit storm than cis female space marines being cawl'd into existence or something
thats why its perfect
Awww no avatars for Aeldari anymore
Also no yvraine leading clowns
But she can lead incubi...
i like how the autarch can lead any aspect warrior team now
Do ynnari have the capability to not field Yvraine if they don't want to now?
Yeah it's a detachment now
what do we mean no avatar btw? im pretty sure they stil get khaine
I'd you run yncarne or yvraine, you can't run non-ynnari epic heroes regardless of detachment
Im pretty sure ynnari always lost avatar no?
So no avatar + yncarne
Since they have no infinity circuit
Where are these leaks?
Aledari discord server
Ah shoot was hoping for something easier to link to
I’m sure they’ll get posted on a subreddit or something for portability
Fuegan also lost fnp but now grants a +6" range to melta weapons
Meaning his melta 6 gun is 24" range and can land hits from flacon deep strike
And 9" on his squad
does... avenger guy who's name i forget still roll with a 3++?
Not leaked yet
Oh also yncarne still has the teleport but also gets deep strike. Heals on kill but no half damage
The half damage was grody
Weird
Isnt
The wych cult character part of ynnari
Yeah
Hesperax fought yvraine in the arena, won, and then joined the ynnari
Her and most of the cult of strife
Yeah that seems weird
Last time she was in the story seemingly yeah
Though the new article does mention jain zar isnt really hanging out with them much
So maybe everyone is just giving up on them lol
Incubi make sense with the visarch
And kabalites more broadly just being default deldar
Oh yeah wait it says wyches on yvraine leader ability
So this is definitely missing some
Yee
i hope u enjoy the book!
might be cool to do an iron harvest/scythe conversion of a chimera for krieg
There's a lot of fire dragon tricks now
Love fire dragons
I'm just shy of the exp needed to get my purestrains to level 2 in crusade
fire dragons getting the rec they deserve as OG tank killers
Talk me into / out of it.
It would be dumb for me to start 40king with Imperial / Chaos Knigts right?
At the very least I could try and tabletop sim them first
Just the one knight?
Well it's always just the one to start with
Unless I got that box they did
But it seems silly to start with a big unit like that
Hmm, on the one hand that’d be an interesting way to start out, but also you might run into weird situations where you aren’t interacting with a lot of game systems and also would be funky to play low plains games with
Ye
On the other, I understand the heeheeh hoohoo desire to get a big centerpiece model and go weird with it
My second choice would be Tau, which I know also ignores like, all of the psychic and fighting phase
And is all in on shooting
My view on how the Tau play and act was so seismically shifted when I found out they were inspired by the US in Desert Storm, a lot of stuff clicked
But I love the appeal of blasting away an enemy before they touch me
And they have a whole doctrine all about that
There's no psychic phase in 10th anyways
No magic phase or equivalent?
Nope
Fairs
Psychic is just a tag on certain attacks or abilities
Gotcha
If I do start, maybe some tau then
I have an idea for a tau faction that covers their mecha in hippie style decals
our first army is chaos knights
How was it?
Starting knights can make you a little unfun to play against but there are detachments that let you soup in other units which make things a little less slanted
they're not bad but like hellbrute said they're a bit weird
I'd always reccomend trying and army on tabletop Sim before buying in tho
haven't been able to play a game yet, still assembling war dogs
I can mix in imperial agents right?
My first army was space wolves, my current is tau, tau only recently gained the ability to really interact with every phase, so I like where they are at now
Agents or admech for imperial knights, cultists and daemons for chaos
You can also soup knights into any imperial army a little
I saw a Tau shield wall ram a C'tan shard to death so yeah I guess they do interact with all phases
cultists are restricted to the iconoclast fiefdom detachment btw, but they give you a good excuse to run big knights
Maybe chaos would give me more room then
because you get to sacrifice them to power up the big guy
And you can swap out chaos for imperial knights at will right?
Ehhhh kinda?
that's up to whoever you're fighting against/wherever you're playing
All the Imperial knights have a chaos version but not the other way around
Ah gotcha
Chaos knights also generally is war dog spam with maybe 1-2 big guys in iconoclast fiefdom
Also CK are getting a codex sooner
if you can reasonably point at something and go "this is running this index" then in our books you're good
So maybe get the knights that can do both
And art wise make them look suitable mercenary
Rules are temporary
Cool little guys are forever
Don’t pick armies based on their rules
that'd be the questoris, dominus, and armiger kits then
because they're the same kit in both armies just with different cards
I'm not really, I mean more knights seems impractical to start with cos of the size and cost to
Honestly, the model difference between Chaos Knights and Imperial Knights can very well be "What I say they are when I put them on the table".
technically yes, but knights are honestly the cheapest army to build
Especially if you don't use a canon colour scheme and/or are moderately clever with your painting
Remember that one big knight is basically an entire combat patrol worth of unit
they're up there with custodes as being the best $/points ratio army
For the full 2000 point army sure
Imperial knight models as chaos mostly works but the opposite probably not out of the box haha
you take the time to magnetize, and you're done after like 9-12 models
even at knight pricing that's dirt cheap compared to a lot of others
You get a full 2,000 point army after four-five knights.
Likewise with war dogs/armigers, each one is as much unit as a leman russ and there's two per box
But yeah rn you can make a pretty cool knight and infantry list between detachments and imperial agents/daemons
But thats also something that varies in legality as new rules come around
Knights feel like an Army you're supposed to just grab a centerpiece model from for your actual army.
oh also word of advice regardless of if you want to run IK or CK, buy the battleforce box
you get 4 armigers and a questoris
Ah yeah the recent battleforce is a good deal
If you can find it.
yeah that's the main problem
(It's kinda a bad deal for CK if you don't want to run the questoris)
lmao the issue of any battleforce box worth the money is 'find it'
I was gonna get into tyranids with last year's box, oops
despoiler is really good if you run iconoclast and you can just run it as a desecrator or rampager because all the weapon options are there
The armiger box for chaos knights kinda suck because the versions of war dogs they make are pretty bad.
To be fair, there's a few Kroot boxes still kicking around (I saw one at a FLGS recently-ish), and I keep seeing the T'au christmas box pop up on the subreddit, but the knights were a stupid good deal and I'd be suprised if they aren't all gone by now.
stick chaosy bits on there and maybe some extra weapons from the war dogs box if you have any left over
IIRC you don't have the gun for the desecrator
I mean, yeah
Yeah if you also have magnetized guns from the war dogs you can turn armigers into better war dogs
Each war dog has 2 sets of guns
that's what we did, magnetized the lot
and possibly inhaled an unhealthy amount of plastic from all the drilling we had to do
Ye I saw, looked like a good deal. It looks like you don't get the full kit for the Knight but it's still worth the value
Plastic within. Plastic without.
Well there's the hunstsman/executioner war dog kit (same box as armigers) and then there's the stalker/brigand/karnivore kit
Yeah the huntsman/executioner are meh but with the extra weapons from the other box you can make them other versions
Ah yeah
going old school, back before CK had their own kits
aka the "stick spikes on everything" era
I need to paint more of my war dogs
I went really hard on like 3 with kitbashes then got burnt out
same, we got delayed for a while because we moved house and all our tools to magnetize them were in boxes over the summer
currently got 2 magnetized and (mostly) assembled and then another box yet to be opened
is it weird that cadians are so important still despite being 100% diaspora?
can cadian regiments make new cadian regimanets on new worlds?
Back in the day the justification was that cadians had a TON of copycat regiments using the same gear and similar doctrine around the galaxy
And I think that still works as well or better
There's also New Cadia (which I think was a silly lore decision)
I think they should've committed harder to the diaspora bit and have small cadian communities on a thousand different worlds
Cadians were already everywhere
As well
If anything they’ve been freed up from concentrating so much on cadia itself
Cadia blowing up just makes them fight harder
Cadia sorta became the standard for how to establish a guard regiment across the galaxy.
A lot of places just went "We'll base our military structure around that!"
More
Asurmen eats terminators for breakfast holy shit
Huh
Aspect Warriors in general seem to be getting a shot in the arm
Which is nice
imagine being afraid of trans people haha like just go on with your life dog what are they gonna do make you play warhammer with them

What do heretics do on Heresy thursday
Heresy
that's a sick model
Unexpected but dope as shit
usually brag about their models being better
Heh
Cool Skitarii Marshall proxy if your 40k Ad Mech army wasn't cheap enough
Dreaming of that being fine to play in 40k 😦
mood
hold on gotta find the image of stilt guy looking over the fence at the cool 30k stuff
wait wth why is this being done in resin
You just refreshed the range in plastic what gives
horus heresy still does character models in resin regularly
because a lot of them are extremely niche
securarii arent even part of the mechanicum tagmata really
Remember the good old days when AdMech was two factions with their own codices?
Hahahaha
I have the Skitarii codex
i got into admech in 8th and thought every other edition was dumb specially the split codexes but then as I looked into everything more i was horrified to find myself agreeing with it lmao
skitarii and mechanicus are seperate armies mechanicus just never got any support because they lost out on the last imperial armour never coming out 😔
I thought that was just a quirk of the release schedule and white dwarf stuff
Full codex leak
they also never got support cause they didnt get plastic yeah
skitarii are more popular
probably partially cause electropriests are pretty ugly and thats a quarter of the army
maybe its because i never got super into the admech, but i feel like theres not enough to really have 2 fully fleshed out factions out of em
not as it stands no
skitarii is just skitarii basically while mechanicus is priests servitors and robots
but the skitarii are subservient, ultimately, to the priests of mars arent they?
in a meta sense I dont think theres really room for two admech armies but like
kinda?
the thing is
its two parallel armies under an archmagos prime
which js higher than any tech priest thats been in 40k as a game
like ultimately its priests who are in charge but that doesnt mean every priest is in charge
Priests are fine just make mechanicum 30k
40k compatible
Will double sales as admech players sob
there should also theoretically be priests who directly support skitarii, but that aspect of the lore was never explored because it was never needed for the tabletop
so instead you have lore thats a vague mess
and the priests we do have lore for are very not skitarii specific. dominus is meant to be in charge of robots specifically not just a generic tech priest hq
This edit was so good right until the end
Where they didn't do the chorus of Rats
I think that’s probably a little more than we can have posted here
Oh, what's the skitarii leader tech priest (if any)?
Oh rip, I'll delete
no lore 😭
theoretically the marshall
or a super marshall
or subdomina from mechanicus
Wait, is the subdomina title just from that video game?
Oh. Huh. She isn't even a tech priest
I swear Mechanicus 2 better give us a new Admech Epic Hero
The roster of characters in the first one were great
I am a weirdo who prefers unnamed characters. Though only quasi-named characters ala the Tyranid ones I am pretty happy with (namely, you can only take one of each, but you can justify them being anywhere)
I understand wanting unnamed characters but only having one is so lame
Like I love Cawl, but give me more flavor in army building with unique characters
Like a Necron Army with Illuminor Szeras is a completely different feel than the same army with Trazyn
that's the feel I want from my Epic Heroes
But typically its just superfriends
Yeah, I like the idea of powerful army-altering characters you can only take one of, but I prefer they don't get unique names lol.
I love that
would be cool to have admech heroes yeah. we have plenty of named priests and magos in novels and short stories
Could a skittari be a hero?
i think so, i think perhaps a named and leader hero type is a little counter to admechs whole cog in the machine vibe, but id still want one
id also want an electropriest hero
like an abbot of the electropriesthood or something
There's this one named super tactical droid in star wars
do skittaris have commanders that are also still skittari?
They’ve got marshals on tabletop
Which are essentially that, a midway point between the tech-priests and the skitarii of the line
Skitari lore has changed a lot over the years
So yes, with caveats
(I miss the old augged to hell and back skitari)
I saw that the HH team and the 40k team are completely separate with different designers. That really makes me wonder about the state of custodes in 11th when the time comes
i kinda miss the titanicus depiction of skitarii
like auged up, intentionally painted up and made to look savage and fearsome, but net linked to the titans they fight around to perfectly maneuver around its foot falls
i dont hate the current depiction either
but my first real exposure was the titanicus version
My first exposure was the Mechanicus videogame so I was very dissapointed when the Skitarii with swords were more ceremonial on the tabletop
and that the rifles were only marginally better than bolters
Arquebus was sick to see though
Oh, I’m talking even before then, the old book skitari were generally a bajillion tech thralls or hyper modified cyber-supersoldiers
Like, each one was often unique
Lots of giant dudes, dudes with tentacles, dudes with chainsaw hands, all that good stuff
The current skitari are still cool in their own way, but I prefer the 30k Mechanicum to them and the even weirder early Skitari to them
The old skitarii were sick af
I hope you can choose between Necrons or Mechanics and no matter who you'll get an advisors who do nothing but bicker. Now that I know just how catty the Necrons are.
The mechanicum goes hard as fuck though, I love the cybernetica dudes
Guys who are just a skull, spine, and nervous system in a suit of armor that can see into the x ray spectrum
Metal as fuck
It’s hilarious how close the Necrons and Mechanicus are in vibe to each other
Which I assume is intentional these days
I mean is it just me or are Necrons (and I know precious little about them) just a little bit drag queen-y?
I don’t personally see it, but I’m not saying you can’t make an argument for it
Lol, it might be just me. Again, my exposure is severely limited.
Nemesor Zandrekh and Trazyn have been queening out for the last two million years
Beyond that they’re very serious 😔
im afraid the problem for me is im not really sure what drag queeny means in this context
ah I see, i associate that more with dragons
Actually a pretty good comparison lol

Making the rules that care about wounded units work will be tough
I imagine yvraine + visarch + 10 incubi in a raider will be a key part
Shining Spears looking hothothot
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832663454008.html TIL: "sealing wire" is what Army Painter uses and repackages as barbed wire.
I know there are few 40k RPG players here- I'm working on a rules expansion to make vehicle combat a lot more exciting.
That is a hell of a combat patrol, I want everything in that box
Everything's coming up eldar this year
oh damn that is a good one
Wraithguard/blade stocks should shoot up with mobility faction rules too
There's a bunch of upgrade paths for it too
Like, the easy one is the new warp spider leader
But you can really go anywhere with that patrol it feels like after that.
The wraiths are a high point density unit too so you hit the ground running
You could double down on wraiths
You can go more standard Eldar infantry and the wraiths would be a nice brick to fall back on
idk Eldar list building, but this box seems extremely middle of the road in the best way
I also feel like the warp spiders are just going to be handy to have. the ability to just move 24 inches is super handy for a tactics monkey
Warp Spiders have been pretty omnipresent in comp lists for 10e
Same with Swooping Hawks
Fast as fuck objective nabbers are just super good for eldar
Did they get new models?
yep
Nice! I heard eldar dont often get those
The old Warp spider models are old enough to drink in the US and probably don't get carded.
Unrelated: A conversation I recently had with my wife...
Her: Do you wanna go to the hobby shop this weekend and get new models?
Me: Nah. Remember how I told you they announced new skellyfriends recently? I'm putting a hold on all fun purchases until I have skellyfriend funds on standby
Her: But... you should get new models
My little temptation daemon on my shoulder is a literal human being who has more disposable income than me.
That looks amazing!
Yeah it's a very good year to be a space elf fan
New dire avengers, warp spiders, fire dragons, swooping hawks, Phoenix lords for all of those, the new striking scorpions via kill team last year
Come to think of it, she also tried to tempt me to buy a stormsurge a few weeks ago and asked how much it cost when I said it was out of my price range at the moment...

I will one day use my stormsurge on the battlefield
And it will be gloriously killed by a tank parking lot probably
to be fair its rockin quite a lot of damage
I feel like the stormsurge is decently tough and shooty, just doesn't play nice with spotting
Yeah. It's too much gun, but I found that after finishing my first 2000 points in T'au I started thinking in terms of "this looks fun!" As opposed to "this works in my army"
I like more lore accurate batallions myself
Since there's enough fire caste lore describing lore accurate detachments of forces
I generally like to do the same. Though a lot of that lore was written before anything particularly big existed, because everything was meant to operate out of a manta
You don't bring your manta to the weekly 2k?
Damn that combat patrol is a pretty easy buy 2
At 3 you're capped on dire avengers if you don't already have any.
And that's a lot of dire avengers unless you're using the detachment for them
i figure stormsurges are transported in pieces and assembled in the field
heck im not even sure how riptides get carried around
maybe they fold up nice?
From the fandom which i think is quoting one of the two white dwarf magazines they show up in
They get dropped, walk to position, lock down, and then divert all power to the guns
ikea style, ship in parts, assemble in field, then operate for the duration of the deployment
And it looks like riptide are also held in regular mantas
yeah so they must fold up nicely
Usually hard dropped into the fray
yeah largely they seem to be crisis suit+
om terms of application
(I still like the burst cannon version over the ion. I know its not as mechanically good, but its neat to have a giant minigun)
Looking at the fandom too, it seems like they like to use them as a reserve counter attack force or something to spearhead a quick charge/hotdrop
fandom is usually one im hesitant to go by if it lacks sourcing
lexicanum i find is generally better, but its also not always perfect
Lexicanum has less, but it's generally actually sourced
Fandom just copy-pastes from source texts without attributing, and has a lot of fanon bullshit
Oh huh so there is a Manta Transporter
Yeah it’s so hard to sift through
Real true to the setting ass resource
Riptides still have a 10" movement and [FLY]. They probably just have bigger repair bays and keep up with maneuvers by being fast and agile
Yeah from the 6th edition codex, it mentions they were built for the 3rd expansion to outmaneuver imperial tanks and entrenched positions while also having good access to heavier arms
Plus pushing the nova reactor lets you do crazy shit
Oh yup the white dwarf article on the stormsurge did mention the modified manta drops
Asking about Stormsurges makes me wonder what do Imperial Knights use for transport?
Drop keeps!
For Imperial Knights, the Drop-Keep is an essential orbit-to-ground landing vessel.[1]
Also some normal large landers
Too bad theres no official art of them or the coffin ships
I love how often the answer is "hot drops"
I mean when you're a mecha, why not
There is a pretty cool description of one in a more recent Cawl book
Gunna make a 0SP piece of exotic gear the next time I run a LANCER campaign that negates fall damage exactly one time just to encourage the team to do a hot drop
(In the Campaign I'm currently a player in, my PC keeps suggesting hot drops because they forget the others can't fly)
As you should
Feels more like a reserve than a 0SP exotic system
Consider: I forgot the word "reserve".
SHAME 🫵 /s
Oh, they carry twelve knights? That's a lot. I hope they get a model for it in the not-epic game
man even the epic games aren't getting big landers
it's always zippy little things like the Arvus Lighter
very biggest, Thunderhawk
Even in Epic/LI scale, a transport big enough for 12 Knights is a lot
A knight in LI is on a 40mm base. It’d be like dropping a 28mm Land Raider into an LI game.
Then deploying 2000 points of knights out of it.
I mean
I see why this isn't a good idea but also I want that
Don’t let your memes be dreams.
3D print that drop castle and home brew rules for it.
Six Sailor T'auts out of ten (9/13 if you count the drones) have been moved to the "Faces and bases" pile. Almost done with this Kill Team.
(I have no idea what to do with the bases)
I got a forgeryworld telemon and I took a look at the parts and I think it's completely at the offical production quality if not better
glitter
Surely Dark Eldar will all have a nice refresh! Right? Right?
Does anyone have more finecast models in the game than Deldar?
If they remove all of druk fine cast it'll be like 6 units in the codex
You monster
pigment powder is just gamer glitter
or I suppose more accurately scale modeler glitter
James Workshop!! Give me plastic Court of the Archon, and my wallet is yours!

necrons were pretty bad until 10th
its still like. Not Great with ctan becoming mandatory
Oh, are they just good now or something?
Ctan are really powerful
that's about it, they've had their points increased like 3 times
I think there was a tournament where a six C'tan list did really well. Which is not really the sort of list that should do well lol
C’tan are very very tough, relatively killy, and pretty mobile
Which makes them solid if you bring 1-2 (void dragon and nightbringer iirc are the better two??)
That half damage necrodermis is nice plus the healing is quite good
Do they all get teleport on advance or just the unnamed ones?
Just the unnamed one
The deceiver is the weakest but that is still a monster with built in stealth
To whoever told us to read Assasinorum: Kingmaker
Y’all were absolutely telling the truth this book is great
We’ve been on a knight novel storm. Read kingsblade and knightsblade, knocked out Apex predators, currently halfway through kingmaker (well, ish, page 162)
After this is the graham mcneill Mechanicus novels
Is that the one with the ark mechanicus?
Huh Banshees get Anti-Infantry 3+ on all their melee
And D2 basic banshee swords
Actually scary now for space marines haha
basically every fucking nerf necrons keep copping is because some detachment rule accidentally applies to ctan which are the single toughest units in the game
index nerfs for ctan, Awakened Dynasty had every strat rewritten to not apply to ctan
hypercrypt like 4 rounds of consecutive nerfs for ctan
starshatter nerfs for ctan
the monolith detachment was actually better running as 6 ctan
Honestly chat mega kudos to anyone that can guess what this is gonna become a proxy of.
Hint: It isn't Chaos.

Gaunts ghosts question: when abnett says .30 cal does he mean 30mm?
It's 40k so he means .30 cal because it sounds cool
30mm is bigger
So i got the tyranid swarm precon for mtg tonight. Can I claim to be part of the hivemind now?
So thought
Karaskin
Put them in regular taurox
And use the scout and movw
Y/N better off with chimera
Its cheaper and better if you want to alpha strike
Which Kasrkin are pretty good at
You're looking at a potential 24" move across the board on Turn 1
I'd do the Taurox, the Chimera is more of a mobile pillbox than a transport transport
I think tauroxes are the way
In general
Chimera are tougher and can keep a command squad in if you wanted for orders
But for kasrkin, being where you want and getting a solid round of shooting seems important
Oh for Bridgehead I'd just go 6x deep striking scions to start with lol
That's a good beginning outfit
Seems like the grav scions would be good in that too
Melta scions in a taurox prime seems like it might be good? Wait does it still have the bonus to wound?
Cadian Castellan (45pts): Close Combat Weapon, Chainsword, Plasma Pistol

@brittle salmon what you think of that nightmare?
That's looking good to me - who goes in the Taurox Prime?
Wait can kasrkin go in taurox prime?
Yes but they can't push it as far
One of the Scion squads that isn't being led
Yes they can

does the Lion have the dark angels chapter under his command? Or is it mostly just the risen that are travelling with him now?
Yeah he has the chapter
Neat
Hey all, what's the go to TTS (no not the video series) stuff for 40k?
40k Combat Patrol 10th (Scripted)?
But that would have no imp knights correct?
How do you mean? I usually use Yellowscribe, https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3137407072, and https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2716384879
Ah I'd seen the second one
Does that contain unit models and such
Or just scripting for the rules
the force org has loads of models
this can apply the scripting to models
ive run with just these three and new recruit pretty much
Nice
