it's specifically good when you and the enemy are both ranged attacking each other
and yeah just such a small area
yeah
similarly you'd need to really put in the work to get use out of tesseract tunnel
it just feels like a subclass that got a lot of weird and potentially interesting tools that were all kept very week out of an overabundance of caution
and that also don't really mesh with each other or the rest of the class
would be sick on a psi warrior type class
Infinite eye is probably the best dip for every class
It’s effectively +1 to every single check, because it only triggers when relevant
Amped Guidance is pretty decent yeah
Silent Whisper is I think overall one of the strongest
largely because of Shatter Mind
Wave is also pretty good
Grasp is fine
Wave also benefitted a lot from changing Ray of Frost to Frostbite
still kinda wish Wave used like, Primal list
but the granted spells do a lot at least
I really like infinite eye just because, like
nearly all of its shit is one-action, has a super unique feel as casters go
question, do adventures and house campaigns expect the player to conscientiously choose to buy the equipment for their level with raw gold at all times or is there room for the usual loot reward system of getting gear via the GM and adventuring? Thinking about characters who are inclined not to "buy" goods or weaponry or whatever in that way
i figure like, above board talks with the gm and like exchanging value of gold could help with that at a table level, just curious
cause like, from what I undertand, a character stands no chance if they dont have some minimums for their level in terms of magic items, so if a character has taken a vow of poverty perse, narratively, they're just fucked
i think anyway you hand out loot is fine as long as it comes around the time the game assumes you to get these upgrades
if you're worried about not being able to hand out loot however, you can check out the Automatic Bonus Progression variant rules
the default assumption is loot is level appropriate gear and money and you sell the gear you don't want to plug the gaps in your equipment
ok that makes sense, i realize a vow of poverty is an extreme example, but just one that came to mind
because of how selling works generally gear you find is better than gear you buy but if it's not applicable to your party what you gonna do
as in because you get only 50% of the value
expected treasure by level for a party of four is like 2 permanent items of the same level, 2 of the next level, a bunch of consumables and some raw gold
there's a table
with a little spit and elbow grease you can "trade" for "gifts" too, to accomodate a character opposed to buying for whatever reason
oh sure
So other than Fighter, Champ, and Monk, what are some solid tanks
I KNOW those are the big ones but
Defender :v
Kineticist can tank okay
Its guardian, but yeah
Real talk the serious answer for me is probably just 'continue to bang my head against those three until I find something I want to play'
I feel like barb works well because its offensive threat level is really high
Kineticists can get pretty tanky just because they focus on con baseline
Especially with earth, wood and metal
I specifically want something that can survive a lot of attacks, mostly
Like, tank in the meaning of 'dude who soaks more damage than most'
All of which have pretty good defensive impulses
Wood also has healing, right?
Yah but it’s janky healing
Now that Barbarian has (apparently) lost the AC malus is probably works very well for tanking honestly
It basically makes a potion you need to give to another
Yah especially with their resistances
Cuz it gets the most HP and you can fix its AC in all the same ways you can other martials
Also heavy armor now
Wait do barbs get heavy armor by default now
So you can grab like, fortress plate if you really want to
No but they get a feat to
It just occurs to me that “kill the white mage first” is a much less effective strat if the white mage refuses to die
Oh sick
Level 8 feat
Oh
Yah it’s kinda high level
They also get a level 8 feat to get a whole bunch of temp hp with an action at any time
So like … level 8 seems like a good level for Barb defense
Yeah
I'm probably still gonna like
Snag sentinel
Or champ
If I'm going that direction specifically as a barbarian but
Retrain it out later probably
I love Fighter as a class
Always an option
It's the "mundane but practical" class
I’ve been wanting to play a sword and board dual weapon fighter for a bit tbh
I like Falcata with S&B
I was gonna use a kama
But probably reflavor it as like, a scimitar
Just because ngl a kama doesn’t fit the vibe of this character
I like fighter but I've played a lot of it recently
I don’t think I’ve ever played one
I’ve been adoring the kineticists I’ve been playing
It’s a metal fire earth automaton kineticist
He’s so fun
Nice
there is also Dash of Herbs later, which is more geneal use
Oh yah that one’s way easier to use
Also ngl with that new feat I wanna try a giant barbarian fortress plate build
And make a character that’s just the mountain from GOT
heavy armor Barb is gonna be better than before I think
since they also have Fast Movement as a base feature now
which easily counters the speed loss from heavy
Just some huge dude who can barely be described as competent but is so ridiculously strong it doesn’t matter
Wait seriously?
Shit that’s hueg
Oh shit
yeah
That is kinda sick
Barb stay winning
Damn everyone was to busy talking about free action rage
When barb got so many other buffs
Barb feels very strong now
I think some barb features turn off when wearing heavy armor, but I might be wrong
they don't get the free action Rage in heavy
Wait how is the effect better?
It seems the exact same
You’ll never not be raging
Ohhhhh
but there is from what I hear a feat that gives heavy proficiency and lets you enjoy all the benefits even in heavy
IIRC the level 8 feat changes that
it won't matter in most cases, but it's technically still better
it's also great for Ligneous especi- yeah
Ligneous?
it's a new Instinct that came out in one of the APs
A new rage type released iirc with an AP
hence why it's not known as much
Giant-level damage
Ohhhh
it gives you Giant tier damage, but at the cost of 10 ft of speed instead of Clumsy
Is it in AON yet?
Yes
oh that also reminds me, I should look up Claw Dancer now
and some of the other Howl content
Ohhhh
And Foundry
And yah I found it on pathfinder nexus
Also wait this isn’t in howl of the wild right?
Because I’m seeing people say it is but I didn’t see it anywhere in that
It’s not in Howl
It’s in an AP, but people are confused because it feels like it should be in Howl
there is also another Instinct, but Decay isn't great IMO
The main issue is a lack of feat support
But on its own terms Ligneous is strong
Yah taking damage each turn seems a bit much for that damage increase
And fast movement will help a lot with it
Also poison but like, idk if that’s better or worse then just normal damage types
Its Far Worse
Ok sweet
Just wanted to know
I have a sorta inherent distrust of poison damage because of 5e but idk how accurate that is to PF2E
Constructs and undead are broadly universaly immune to it
Yeah don’t use Decay
Late to this, but I love Metal Kineticist as a tank
I built mine to be one
Unfortunately I don’t have shattershields yet
But man it’s good for it
We have a metal kineticist in our party
I feel a bit underwhelmed by his kit but I’m also not sure how well he’s using it, I don’t really know the class
Metal feels a bit unfocused to me
still works I guess, but it doesn't super appeal to me
Metal shines against enemies with equipment
And things with a metal-based weakness
https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=1704 you can probably make one out of mithral if you want
ok I properly read through Ostilli Host now, and this seems exactly as strong as I thought it'd be
this feels like an archetype practically anyone can and probably will go for
casters especially
Yeah
It is the most every I’d be like “okay if you’re not a big boy you need to justify this in the plot”
sudden upsurge in Surki casters
I mean, Surki are new. There’s a sudden upsurge of Surki everything
Oh yeah
I mean honestly I’m down for it
Or adopted ancestry surki (I have never cared less how adopted ancestry works)
Surki would actually be a terrible pick
Since almost every feat of theirs is about their biology
Although it is uncommon, so not that bad
OH it’s not rules locked to common ancestry’s anymore
You just need to have access which is already gods biggest handwave it moment outside of like
Society play
How, if at all, would you adapt archetypes that care about the schools of magic with new, school less spells?
Tbh, in a home game I’d just say “you are restricted to spells that match the vibe and have to run them by me”
For evocation, spells that do energy damage
For divination, maybe with the scrying trait
Illusion is like the one school that still basically exists since it has its own tag
Almost all mental spells were enchantment
New and also extremely cool
So for that tank idea I did in fact settle on two options
Reachlord size large fighter
Or dragonblood temple sword monk
I'm currently shopping for cool reach weapons
Thinking either the naginata or bo staff
Id take Nodachi but Advanced Moment
There should be a reach greatsword that’s not advanced
I want my comically large greatsword
Let me guts
I would need to think about alchemy then 😱
Fair
Fauchard maybe?
Classic reach+sweep combo but like, also with deadly d8 for fighter crits
Fauchard is probably the best option yeah
I like the Naginata but its kind of flatly worse alas
Unfortunate
If only forceful were better
No wait that’s the glaive
Naginata has versatile P
Damn
Yah
Wish honestly the polearms game were more balanced
But like, it really is just Fauchard, Guisarme, or Gill Hook
Because the rest are just those three but worse
The Nodachi kinda fucks if you can actually get the damn thing
Deadly d12 and Reach on a class with AoO is Nefarious
The real pain is getting it on a large race 😭
Does adopted ancestry human work?
It does, but only comes online level 5
Right
That sucks
Also suspiciously high number of centaurs with dragon blood in them adopted in human counties
lmao
30 foot land speed and Big HP
Yagabi gaming
Wait A Fucking Minute
Doesnt Mauler fix your profs in the remaster
Everyone was popping off about that
it does give advanced prof, yes
MY NODACHI BUILD CAN FINALLY BE SOMETHING NON HUMAN
Mauler is all two handed weapons to right?
So that only leaves single handed melee advanced weapons as not having an easy way to get advanced
Yeah, though iirc Fighter heightened prof has had adjusted wording so taking it wont make all two handed weapons scale like your weapon group
Just two handed weapons in your weapon group
How many other weapons even have deadly d12
it's Mauler that no longer gives you increased prof with twohanded
it just does the ancestry thing of downgrading them one group for prof
Archer works the same way
I see I see
Rad
I hope exemplar can use advanced weapons. like built in
if any class (other than inventor) should be using unique weapons, its them
It definitely won't lol
If Inventor or Fighter isn't getting Advanced prof then Exemplar sure aint
yeah
honestly outside ty play i think gms should be very generous
with advanced weapon prof
honestly if anything exemplar would be a good deadly simplicity sort of candidate as they're, like
migrating towards this archetypal embodiment of divinity moreso than whipping around a flickmace
inventor not getting advanced on weapon innovations is the one that feels the most egregious
They do, in fact, get a deadly simplicity equivalent by default
Humble Strikes
ah, right
Starfinder question. I’m possibly gonna be playing a Vanguard in an upcoming game, and I prioritized Con and Str in character creation. (The GM had us roll 4d6 keep highest for stats instead of point buy, and I only got two numbers above 13.) Should I prioritize Dex instead? Initially I thought Dex wouldn’t be as important since Vanguards get heavy armor, melee feats have Str requirements, and I’ll eventually add my Str mod to my entropic strikes…but then I read somewhere that powered armor can give you boosted Str and Vanguards should prioritize Con and Dex. Did I fuck my character over by putting my two highest scores in Con and Str instead of Con and Dex? If I were to switch over to Dex over Str (assuming the GM allowed it since I already finalized my sheet), I would be starting with no higher than a 13 in Str. It looks like that’s enough for initial melee feats, but is that gonna be enough later on?
It’s my first time playing Starfinder so I have very little clue what I’m doing lol
Probably. You can upgrade non-main stats really fast.
And I forget exactly why, but Vanguards aren't very strength dependent IIRC.
While Dex lets you shoot a gun, which is huge.
They initially don’t need Str for their entropic strikes (which are melee) but eventually get to add both Con and Str to them
Hmm, if ranged combat is important to be competent with, I might ask my GM if I can swap my Str and Dex then
It's "very good, but if you have mobility, not critical"
As it is, I have 18 Con, 16 Str, and 13 Dex, if that helps
And also remember that a 13 in Str can be a 15 at very little cost at 5th level, since you can bump 4 stats.
Alright
(Last stat is probably wisdom for the will saves.)
It's not horrible, but yeah, Vanguards don't care a ton about strength. IIRC the general assessment is that it's a little worse, but not cripplingly so. I might also consider 18 dex, 16 con, since dex is your accuracy. But those are pretty minor adjustments
Alright
Wait is the starfinder 2e playtest already out?
No, this is 1e
Oh yah sorry lol
I wish I could grok 1e
A friend of mine really likes it but its too
1e
I’m hoping I can grok it, PF1e was a bit too much for me but that was partly because I was given way too many options right off the bat for making my character (first-party AND several large third-party expansions), whereas this time my options are more limited (I only have access to some of the books).
I’m eager to see SF2e, but this GM isn’t fond of how PF2e works so his hopes are not high for SF2e
I like most of PF 2e, but I think Sf 2e isn't going to make enough changes for the new setting assumptions.
Stuff like confirming that they are using the same Traditions for magic does not make me confident.
So, I just dealt 400 with 1 level 9 spell
And prevented 300 damage at the same time
Phantasmagoria is one hell of a spell
Lots of crits when the NPCs attacked each other
Double fight, no time to rest, the gm explicitly told us we may want to run, and now they are in a worse shape than we are
And they say casters suck in this edition
they lie
PF 2e didn't actually fix vancian casting.
other than imperial, is there any arcane only sorc bloodline in PC2?
Is genie getting reprinted?
no
Isn’t dragon arcane?
I assume its pick a list now
you get to pick now, yeah
depending on your specific dragon bloodline
is imperial still fully arcane?
Yup!
brave and true
What's the exemplars niche again? I get the sense in broad vibes, it's kind of like a champion?
But in its own way
Thematically? The whole thing is supposed to be that you got a lil bit of god juice and you're kind of turning into a demigod or something, very classical heroes of myth
Mechanically it's kind of a thaumaturge/kineticist style build your own class
Yoooo
This looks so good

fifty united states dollars huh.
oh its like a season pass for assets for six playtest adventures
I wouldn't call it a season pass
It's just you get half the adventures now, half later
And it's the same quality as all the other ones they've done. With maps and token art and visual effects and sound tracks and journals etc
Great, definitely gonna run that then
Details on the adventures included:

https://paizo.com/products/btq04v06?Starfinder-Playtest-Scenario-4-Rescue-at-Shimmerstone-Mine
Cosmic Birthday and Empires Devoured seem to be the main ones
With the other 4 being shorter scenarios I think?
Have they said how long these adventures are?
Not sure
Can try and find out
Scenarios tends to be 1-2 sessions
Adventures tend to be a few levels
Alright
So I'd expent something like level 1-5?
Cosmic Birthday seems to be the best one for like, launching a campaign
But Empires Devoured is probably better for more experienced players
And the Scenarios are good one shots or things you can scatter in
Soldier, Mystic, Envoy, Solarian, Operative, Witchwarper
Soldier: Weapons guy, focus on explosives and laying down suppressive fire
Mystic: Space Cleric
Envoy: Rogue / Bard
Solarian: Space Jedi
Operative: Sneaky hacker assassin
Witchwarper: Reality warper and telepathic powers
While you can play pf2e classes in sf2e, the playtest and final rule book won't include them
Because it's more of a "technically you can play them" rather than a thing it's specifically designed for
Yah, for my group I’ve asked they only use content original to SF2E
So all the new ancestries, classes and backgrounds
Ancestries: android, barathu, human, kasatha, lashunta, pahtra, shirren, skittermander, vesk, ysoki
And for vesatile ancestries: borai, prismeni
Ye
And the final book may have more?
This is just what the playtest is confirmed to have
Honestly I’ll probably ask they don’t even use human or android
Android should be different mechanically I think
Oh
One sec
Then just no humans I guess
I am being told it's 1-4
Oh ok
Weird
If you pick Ancient Android, you can pick the pf2e heritages
Ye
If anything I’ll just ask they don’t choose that one then
But there's like 4 new heritages for the modern age
And the feats, all the old ones are there + a couple new ones
Like this one can only be done in sf2e
So i imagine humans will be similar
Maybe like a "spaceborn" human heritage or something
And some new sci-fi human feats
Yah
Yeah but the speak with computers spell doesn't
Or at least it'd be so useless as to not be relevant
And like, yeah I mentioned the pf2e android stuff 😛
Please tell me that thing has a statblock
I wanna use that so bad
Fuck
i dont think we've gotten anything for numeria in 2e yet really
dont think it's terribly difficult to convert stuff from 1e to 2e though
What is that things name in 1e then?
I'll try and see if it's a specific thing
Thanks
The enormous and formidable annihilator robots
roam old ruins and wastelands, ridding them of all
life and civilization. They smash structures, slaughter
creatures both sentient and bestial, and scorch plant life
to ashes. When rampaging, an annihilator indiscriminately

There ya go
The tip of this towering, scorpion-like construct’s tail thrums with otherworldly energy.
Pretty sure it's that
Post remaster, what’s a better “cantrip” for an alchemist, the free versatile vials or int based electric arc?
extraordinary, i.e. not magic
ye that's 100% it, the caption for the pic on the pf wiki called it an annihilator robot
probably EA still
Oh ok
Even with your bonus splash damage?
Bonus splash damage that doesn’t work in a AoE on a miss anymore
It was like, within a day of it dropping for Howl iirc
I don't know the exact numbers on VV bomb mode
but I suspect if you have two targets EA will still pull ahead
Is there a weapon in PF2E that’s a kinda kama on a chain?
Right that’s it’s name
if you actually spend vials and bomb twice, I'm less sure
Kusarigama is pretty good, yeah
Also huh, I never realized it but monastic weaponry works for all monk feats, not just flurry of blows
I can one inch punch with that thing
10 ft punch
120 inch punch
I think the problem is quick bomber
That’s such a huge amount of action compression that it fundamentally changes the formula
per day reagents is 4+Int now
but you also no longer make multiple of each item
though on the other hand it also seems like your Advanced Alchemy level isn't limited anymore, so you can do at level stuff now
for the archetype, to clarify
I'm not quite sure, it still depends on the exact numbers on the vial bombs
for Bombers, they definitely have the best odds since they have Calculated Splash built in now
So like, any particular difference between an unarmed stance that locks you into its unarmed attack and one that doesn’t?
Because stuff like crane stance doesn’t seem any stronger then any other stance
Well, for Crane specifically its to keep you from assuming crane stance then just swinging a sword around with permanent +1 ac
but it's not really super consistent always
Crane is basically Powerful Fist so its locking you out of stronger monk options
Ah that makes sense
is diabolic related to demons, devils or fiends in general?
Diabolic is Devils
Thanks
YOOOOOOOOOO
Mmm new Alchemist and Oracle go hard
Battle mystery being rendered almost unusable is sad but everything else is worth the sacrifice I think
is there any solid unified listing of the cursebound feats around yet? I feel like that's been my big question
Not to my knowledge
Hmm, are there any particularly good archetypes for a kusarigama weapon monk?
Because I don’t really know any trip or reach based archetypes
It'd be funny to grab Mauler
I don't think anything in particular is outstanding for kusarigama, tho -- the usual stuff
Mauler would be funny yah
Huh
Honestly knockdown is kinda nice
It’s just sorta awkward to use with flurry of blows
Different use cases
For sure it’s just flurry of blows does kinda feel like one of those things you always want to use you know?
Though still just for that+shoving sweep mauler seems solid for it
You could of course always just go Fighter for Reactive Strike
Not bad with kusarigama at all
Oh yah gonna wanna grab reactive strike too
I can’t think of many monk reactions either
At least that aren’t locked to certain stances
Fighter just brings a bunch of good stuff imo
Yah
And I can always get knockdown from it anyway
I’d only really be missing shoving sweep and like
If I crit I can trip em with an attack anyway
I suppose Acrobat is always solid?
Hopeful thinking but technically true
Yah especially with monk
An extra maxed-out skill is nice on anyone
Man I’d love to grab dragging strike on this but press
Press is rough with flurry of blows
(My hot take is that if I were ever in a dual-class game I would go flurry ranger/monk because bwahahahahaha)
Huh, the anti-magical background doesn’t stop you from actually casting spells
'Tis not magic, but purity of will!
The odds of countering a spell are not great. It’s probably easy to avoid countering your own spells if you known what you’re doing
Huh, I wonder if the old one will still work?
Nice
I'm very eager to learn more about the Newborn
also the Vesk/Azlanti war is gonna be interesting
I want to see how zon shelyn shakes out personality wise
What do y’all think are some fun magic items to have in a magic item vault that are level 7 or lower?
Wine Mom
I can’t remember if the beer hat for potions is that level but it is the best item
This intimidating collar contains a hollow central tube and ends in twin metal points shaped like spider fangs. The collar can be filled with an alchemical mutagen as an Interact action. Considering Chk-Chk's backstory, probably relatively neutral?
yeahg , thier not just gonna get rid of the old assets that you payed money for
Well they won't get rid of the content
My question is will the image automatically map to the new monster core
For example, if there's a new monster core goblin, will it use the image from the old pack
If I only own the old pack
Because foundry stores the legacy and new monster core stats separately
So they'd have to update the old pack to map to the new monster core stat blocks
For Honor Sohei has got me wanting to do a Guisarme Fighter
I've never seen a polearm look so WEIGHTY in a game
oh mabye, idk
Looks like they said some will map some won't

Question about the plate of yeld, does it immediately kill its host with the curse or does that happen if it breaks and reforms itself?
Graveknights Curse is an affliction you get from wearing graveknight armor
Usually, it takes one hour of wearing for the curse to set in but for the Plate of Yled the second you are in you get hit with the curse
Ah ok
Why do people keep trying to scam the Paizo forums with literal love spells? Are bots that dumb that they confuse TTRPGs with the occult?
And its no other types of scams, just love spells every week
Yes, bots are absolutely that dumb
They probably just keyword match for "spells", "occult", etc
Also interesting but almost certainty not actually useful, the investigators pointed question now works on any creature, and forces the creature to respond to your question. You can use this in combat. Lying takes your entire turn
forcing them to respond was something it did before already
yea, but you had to be in conversation with them
Now it can be used in combat effectively
realistically, they can just say "you will need to beat the information out of me", which is a true statement, but I think mid combat interrogations are fun
Pointed Question also causes Off Guard for the next Devised Stratagem strike now, making it a kinda Bon Mot-esque combat action. There's something very charming about being able to catch someone so off-guard with a question that they become easier to hit
Any thoughts for items for my gf to invest in? She has 90 or so GP and we're level 5
She's a barbarian
She hits things
(Basic runes are covered this is a game with ABP)
hows gun ranger?
armory bracelet is very good with ABP
literally any weapon at will
Mark Meer outside of CoC is wild, in a good way
who's Mark Meer?
He's a gm for Bookshops and Graveyards of Arkham, EXTREMELY high production quality Call of Cthulhu games
Ah
And also just generally a sort of star player in the Chaosium sphere
Wait that’s half of commander Shepard
He did the voice for the male version
I dunno why but at first I just assumed it was a different Mark Meer, even though there’s a bunch of voice actors doing ttrpg shows
Oh, we finished the first third of Outlaws tonight! The final encounter was very satisfyingly challenging
Now our gm is going to have a break while I run the first third of stolen fate
||we fought an alchemist, which had me feeling nostalgic for all the times our outlaws gm obliterated an encounter while they were playing a bomber alchemist in my AV game||
So I had quite the day
I met my cousin for pretty much the first time (we've met before but I was a goldfish in the memory department) and his fiance
and I am now in their starfinder game
Monolith
What do y’all think is a good way to mechanize a curse to die a violent death?
Rn all I’ve got is starting dying at dying 2 instead of 1
you seen Inevitable Disaster?
https://2e.aonprd.com/Spells.aspx?ID=930
You briefly glimpse cause and effect, putting into motion a chain of events that will visit doom on your enemy at some point in the future, though you're not quite sure when or how the doom will occur. Some kind of strange accident occurs 1d4 rounds later, dealing 55 damage to the creature, with a basic Fortitude save. This happens regardless of...
well it is a curse. its got the curse tag :^)
i dunno, just hit the target with it at the worst possible moment
I see
Hey maybe I'm getting mixed up, but does PF2 still have the thing where wizards can learn spells from other spellbooks?
aaahhh thank you, I expected it to be in the services section
I'm rly excited for the starfinder game I'm joining
Finally adding some beef to the group
Lambent Vesk melee Solarian time
Hell yah
We're starting at third
So my first revelation is stellar rush
which lets you bull rush if you're attuned to photons
and my armor has juggernaut boosters, which give me +2 to bull rush checks if I charge at least 20 ft directly towards them
I wanna run the playtest once the foundry playtest comes out
did the playtest drop?
its dropping soon
cool
Dragonblood Hobgoblin....Kineticist
The playtest is dropping on August 1st
Pdf will be free
When it does I'm probably gonna be pogging out and posting shit from it here all day ngl
I think for my curse of a violent death I’m gonna name the curse the curse of Damocles
The hanging sword
nah not yet
Part of me wants to just reuse a heavily nerfed version of a boss I made for a level 20 one shot but like
Several of my players in this game were in that one shot
Y'all know of any good rules for modern firearms in PF2e?
My GM's running a Vampire Hunter D inspired game and we're stumped on it at the present, since having nothing but flintlocks makes no sense for the setting
Could steal the sf2e rules?
They come out in like 3 days
The game is heavily range combat based and should have all sorts of guns, and will be balanced damage wise for pf2e
Just replace anything that's a laser with a bullet
And there’s even gonna be many new bullet based weapons
Hmm, anyone have any more ideas for a curse that’s meant to be you’re guaranteed to die a violent death?
Being a PC
You can't retire :p
Or something more open ended like being persued by calamity and violence
Alternatively, everything makes it seem like the NPC is the BBEG
Ideally this is something that the players willingly accept lol
Also yah but I’m more referring to mechanics then story
What NPC?
If you want a double edged sword, doomed when in combat, unable to die inside of it
I do already have it so the curse starts you at dying 2
I did not know if this is for a PC or NPC, so I made a suggestion for an NPC
Giving doomed as well seems like overkill
Ah yah this is to start at a NPC and move to a PC
As they bring that NPC a violent end
The trick is that you need to prevent them from dying in any other way
Yah, luckily this is pathfinder though
Other then terrible accidents with fall damage all ends are kinda inherently violent
I mean disease is only really an issue if I infect them
Yah drowning is a possibility
Lava
You could just have them be attacked right before they die
They fall in lava, lava monster comes in for the KO
Yah
"By Gawd, it's a Cherufe with a steel chair!"
Part of the curse is that if you attempt to die in any other way a respective elemental comes to murder you anyway
You ain’t getting out of this life except being beaten to death
They sit there, on there death bed, ready to die of old age, and a kobold comes out and shanks them
God getting this curse was gonna come with visions of the lives and deaths of heroes before that held it
And god now I wanna make that one of their deaths
You could steal mechanics from Blighted Boons: https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?Category=104
Magical manifestations of unusual power, blighted boons resemble consumables in that a creature can take in the manifestation to gain its effects. However, these manifestations contain powers not meant for mortals. Once someone partakes, they begin a slide toward disaster as the power eats away at their body, mind, or both. Death is a blessing c...
Oh these are rad
honestly a curse of dying a violent death is just “being an adventurer”
being wounded 2 or something just speeds it up
the curse was the friends you made along the way
Don't need to use wounded, you can use doomed
Your life is ebbing away, bringing you ever closer to death. Some powerful spells and evil creatures can inflict the doomed condition on you. Doomed always includes a value. The maximum dying value at which you die is reduced by your doomed value. For example, if you were doomed 1, you would die upon reaching dying 3 instead of dying 4. If your ...
It’s more about how it’ll be inevitable to die from it rather then something like sickness or old age
Like if the player chooses this they’re basically a guaranteeing even if their character survives the campaign their epilogue will be that they die to some monster or warrior or something
Give them doomed
Yah doomed is probably fine
Imagining a party of Spellcasters spamming Inevitable Disaster on a guy then spending the next 4 rounds keeping out of their reach chanting "wait for it... wait for it...."
The dooming circle
if it's a narrative device then don't give them permanent doomed, they will fucking die
like you're just going to pop them by accident
if you wanted them to die you would just kill them
Yeah
If it’s a narrative device just decide when it happens
Or like
Focus on them in combat or something
If it’s incidental/you don’t actually want them to narrativistically be fated to die than doomed is ideal
if what you want is for them to fight and fight and fight and then die, ideally pathetically, then what you do is you do them like they did the old greek heroes and make their lives and everyone else's lives miserable until they go and fight
That’s all pretty fair yah, and yah admittedly Doomed would just make them easier to die which doesn’t really accomplish what I want, which is the feeling of being doomed to violence for the rest of their life
Yah I’ll probably just make this a narrative curse
It’s for the best
What are the Minotaur ancestral weapons?
battle axe, falchion, glaive, and greataxe
Not a bad lineup
Yah that’s solid
Hmm, is there any unarmed monk stances that go well with weapon monk?
I’m kinda wondering how a hybrid weapon unarmed monk would work
ironblood stance is just resistances
I'm glad Broken Cycle exists for Solarians in 1e
Oh I meant what’s broken cycle
Oh
You pick either graviton or photon
and can only use those revelations, skill bonuses, etc
But you of course get as many of that side's abilities as you like with no debuff to how your attunement functions
So I went with Solar because I want Fire ™️
lots and lots of fire
Ohhh it’s like their subclass
Lambent Vesk with a photon crystal shard and a dragon gland amounts of fire
soooorta? It's a class archetype
Oh
It technically changes how the whole class functions rather than being a subclass
As normally Solarians get access to both graviton or photon abilities
But must have a roughly equal amount of them
Ohhh do you choose one and you’re locked into only those but you get more of those instead of an equal number of both
Ye, that's the reason for broken cycle solarians, people wanted to just have photon or graviton abilities, not both
Solarian is
A weird class
It has like
Bits and bobs of monk, paladin, and warlock
oh that's neat
so you can fully focus on one side
Dragon stance might be nice
Lead with the kick, if it hits follow up with an agile weapon strike
If it misses, do a backswing second kick instead
Then you can also use Dueling Parry and such
Yah dragon not locking you is especially nice
Just because it’s a solid attack in its own right
stoked flame stance is nice for the move speed bonus too, and doesn't lock you into its unarmed attack
tiger stance as well, for 10 ft steps and a good agile unarmed for follow-ups
Part of me feels like stoked flames is overkill with monk but it’s really funny overkill
Extremely
10 foot steps stronk
So what's the real world inspiration for Khaoling?
... oooooooh here's an idea
https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=2275 + Tiger Stance
Surprisingly agile even in a breastplate and carrying a full rucksack, Marcos Farabellus developed this evasive maneuver during one of his many adventures. Flinging your body into a twisting somersault, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your AC against the triggering attack. If the attack still hits you, you can Step to an open space that's st...
"If you hit me I get to take a 10-foot step"
That is insanely good yah
Especially since I’m gonna be using a reach weapon
So I don’t even have to worry about losing access to attacks
Oh wait
Medium armor training
This would require both fighter, barb or ranger archetype and another archetype to get access to medium armor
Yeah it would be tough to get
But good if you could get it
The gf took it as her 4th-level feat for her barb and it has been quite strong
Hm ... minotaur monk ...
What’s the synergy?
I'm just thinking about it since Minotaurs can start with boosts to all 3 physical stats
The feats don't do a ton for monk tho IMO
Well, Goring Charge does let you do Sudden Charge with your horns attack
Which is pretty strong
Some sort of Versatile Heritage might be good tho
Alarming disappearing could be fun for a stealth based monk
True!
Especially since the imagery is
Very funny
Hmm, any two handed monk weapons without reach?
If going for Goring Charge, unarmed monk is probably stronger, since Handwraps of Mighty Blows will synergize there
True yah
Also stone passage monk probably lets you just, ignore half of a dungeon with the right set up lol
Assuming it’s made of rock anyway
True!
I'm gonna build one as a Dual Class Monk/Ranger because I was thinking about that the other day and the idea amuses me
I assume flurry?
Yah you don’t really need another d8 unarmed attack if you have horns
Actually you could go with the medium ancestry to get agile horns and then grab one of the stronger stances like dragon
True
Alternately for this particular nonsense character Farabellus Flip/Tiger Stance would be an option >_>
This is probably the play for a normal monk tho
True!
Take dragonblooded heritage with this for the new feat that strength monks love :D
Wait no
Agile horns is a heritage
Golarion seeing a suspicious rise of monks with dragon heritage
I'm silly
Monk teacher: "Why are all these dragonblooded coming to learn from me, is there a new meta?"
This isn't even the first time dragon-themed monks have become meta due to AC weirdness
This is explicitly why 1e didn’t have much in the way of dragon people
Which is funny because honestly I don’t really personally associate dragons with “oh my god they HAVE to have high ac”
But apperantly Paizo can’t imagine a world in which a Draconic option doesn’t have insane armor
I mean it’s definitely a trope
Smaug’s impenetrable hide comes to mind
Dragon’s being near unkillable besides one weak point
Yeah thats like
A pretty common trait of dragons
A little secondary to their Main Deal but it def is there
I spose lmao
I moreso mean like
Statistically I think they have high but otherwise not super notable AC
To be fair it is just up to par with light and medium
it just lets you cap out unarmored AC for less Dex
And if you want it to cap out at level 1 it still has to be your #2 ability
I'm not saying it's not really good
It's really good
But it's not like unarmored is now equal to heavy
Fair enough
it just feels weird that half dragon scales dont need training while rhino person scales do
yeah you need Drakeheart mutagen for that 😛
slightly on that note, I expect Alchemist archetype to go up in usage a lot with PC2
since AIUI your alchemy level isn't reduced anymore, though you get much less items per day
having access to on-level or honestly even near-level consumables would be a surprising boost but a welcome one
they were extremely reluctant to give those out last time around
they should make a Drake-erheart mutagen that requires heavy armour training but is one ahead
It does annoy me
That this isn’t armor
But a bunch of other stuff is
Like the conrasu stuff, the nagaji scales
It feels like an oversight or an inconsistency
they should make a drakengard mutagen that makes the game suck
and tbh I feel like 'nuh uh, you arent unarmoured despite being literally naked' is just dumb
Actually, question: is PC2 alchemist still Spreadsheets Heaven?
(Or Spreadsheets Hell)
(Same place, really)
ehh, depends on which part you mean by that
Or rather, can it still be?
they do still need to consult a bunch of different items
but you have much less upfront daily prep
the big ticket is that you dont have to learn higher level versions of the same items
since a majority of their capacity is now shifted into encounter based rechargeable resources
Okay, so they get more spontaneity and flexibility but a player still benefits tremendously from system mastery?
yeah
Okay
knowing the right alchemical item for the situation will still be quite critical
but you don't have to do as much work distributing your reagents on daily prep
and you don't have the tension of deciding between daily prep and Quick Alchemy anymore
vending machine phase largely taking place in daily prep seems like a great idea
I would not at all turn down all the 'you have a breastplate nailed to you' feats becoming more like Scales Of The Dragon
Nagaji and Conrasu str monks would be sick
I would however riot if scales of the dragon was made into armor
Ah that last part is excellent
Yeah I don't want a scales nerf
But an upgrade to the other stuff seems good
to put some numbers on this
previously you had level+Int reagents, and each made 2 or 3 items when used in daily prep, or 1 when used with Quick Alchemy later
now, you have 4+Int daily reagents, and they only make one item each
but you also have 2+Int Versatile Vials, which can be used for Quick Alchemy, a basic bomb, or subclass specific things; and you regain 2 vials every 10 minutes
Gotcha
anything made with a vial also only lasts 10 minutes if it would longer normally
so you can't just make a one hour elixir and get it back with the buff still active
Can runes like crushing be applied to a weapon with versatile B but who’s base damage is slashing?
i'd probably do them like runes on combination weapons, shifting etc.
suppressed when not doing the required damage type
Fair enough
So like, for martial character who takes druid archetype to get access to the wild order, they would be able to still use their normal unarmed attack prof in animal form right?
yeah iirc the fighter/druid thing is cracked for a few specific levels and then falls off a cliff when the available battle form spells fall behind the leveling curve
Damn
Any cool fighter builds 🤔
1e or 2e?
and you might need to be a little more specific than that
Any cool pathfinder 2ed fighter builds
do we know what's going to be in the starfinder 2e playtest?
Soldier, Mystic, Envoy, Solarion, Operative, Witchwarper, ten ancestries that i'm not sure if they've told us what all of them are yet
allegedly Android, Barathu, Human, Kasatha, Lashunta, Pahtra, Skittermanders, Shirren, Vesk and Ysoki, haven't verified though
Mauler two handed fighter with Knockdown
Roll up to a dude, slap them and get them prone
To get to you they need to stand, eating your AoO, then move into adjacency, eating two of their actions and netting you an extra hit with no MAP
Not to mention you support your pals
A weapon with Trip works best but recently I've been fascinated by the Nodachi's Deadly d12
is it going to have ship stuff in the playtest?
I was honestly expecting the playtest to be like, only a few levels
it's good to know it's a lot of content
No. And no Technomancer/Mechanic - I don’t actually know if they’ll be in the CRB, which worries me.
iirc Technomancer/Mechanic was said to be coming in a book after release focused on the tech/mechanical stuff? not sure if that's confirmed tho
hopefully the ship rules will be in the CRB tho
I want Nanocyte and Evolutionst 😭
Maybe possibly so I can take Evolutionist into PF2e and call it Shifter
lmao
Oh I know. I’m just worried a bit about what it means for the tech side of the system
Why did they do that
I must assume they wanted to be a ghoul
Oh uh
No they’re just
Mentally unstable and. Saw a ghoul eat another ghoul
And were prompted to try it
Uhhh in golarion, unclear
In my setting, with this specific kind of ghoul, they contracted the curse because they failed multiple saves
So now a dead god of hunger is whispering to them
To drink deep, devour, and descend
And they can’t counteract curses so they’re basically on a time limit to get back to town where there’s a church
It also exposes you to the curse
oh cool okay i made the right call
Hmm, I need an ancestry for a quick witted punk monk
str based weapon monk as well
Got a preview of the operative subclasses
Infiltrator is Computers + Computers SF. Exploit: Sabotage, Computers or Crafting to give items or tech creatures Glitching 1. EE: on a crit hit, you can Sabotage as a free action or as a reaction if they crit miss you.
Ghost is Deception + Deception SF. Exploit: Aim is a free action against people unaware of you, if you strike someone unaware of you or has a friendly attitiude towards you they are slowed 1 for 1 round, on a crit they are stunned 1 for a round. EE: Ghost Tap Action: Two Actions, Ranged Strike, then Hide, if there are creatures around use Deception instead of Stealth, on a success you become hidden from the target.
Striker: Athletics + Athletics SF, Can choose Str as key attribute. Exploit: You get expert prof with 1-handed agile melee weapons instead of martial guns and they scale 1-handed agile melee and simple guns in place of martial guns. Aim applies to 1 handed agile melee, and you can use 1-handed agile melee in place of make a ranged strike on your feats. They also have the Reactive Step Reaction, where if someone moves away from you, you Step twice after them. EE: you get the Overwhelming Strike free action, when you hit your mark you either off-guard, suppress or prevent them benefiting from cover until the end of your next turn.
Skirmisher: Acrobatics + Acrobatics SF, Exploit: Ranged strikes with 1H ranged weapons don't trigger reactions, you get Hair Trigger as a bonus feat. EE: When you Strike an adjacent Enemy with a 1H ranged weapon, you treat the lowest rolled damage dice as if it rolled the maximum result. At 17th level, do that for 2 dice.
Sniper is Training in Stealth, skill feat for Stealth, Exploit is ignore Volley on guns you wield, and one of the following Operative FeatsL Keep TheM In Your Sites or Scope Sight. Enchanced Exploit is is if you miss with your first ranged strike against your makr with a sniper rifle, you don't count that shot against your MAP and you ignore your weapons unwieldy until the end of the turn.
Sniper seems neat
Ghost is good to I think
So we got, tech operators, lying operators, melee operators, one handed gun operators, and shoot you with a bigass gun operators?
admittedly I am worried about ghost being kinda weak
I dunno, slowed is a very good condition. Free actions are good
just because unless starfinder has more means to get it, unaware is kinda hard to get in this game
I'm gonna be playing an operative with a playtest game with friends, so I'm curious what Ancestry I should chose
Do we know anything about them?
I think it'll be a lot easier to be unaware cos the game has a lot more cover and ranged combat
oh true
That's just me theorising of course but
About ops or ancestries?
Ancestries
So the ancestries will be:
Ancestries: android, barathu, human, kasatha, lashunta, pahtra, shirren, skittermander, vesk, ysoki
And for vesatile ancestries: borai, prismeni
But we only have info for Android and Vesk atm
Borai and Prismeni?
Yeah
You're a ghost puppeting a corpse for Borai
Mhm
Perhaps
Yeah Shirren are cool af
If you want to see android, it's in field test #3
As is Vesk
Unless that's undetected, it'll be pretty hard to make use of yeah
Wait is undetected harder or easier to get then unaware?
This is second hand wording of a playtest doc so not sure what the real text is
I imagine it means undetected
Cos I don't think "unware" is a thing
Unless they mean unnoticed
Undetected seems the most likely
Unnoticed, which I assume is what unaware is supposed to be, is 'this chili sure is good, I hope a sniper doesnt shoot me while im eating it'
While undetected is 'that was a gunshot, I better put my chili down and find that sniper'
Typically, its possible to get back to undetected using stealth, but not unnoticed
Ahh right
Then yah I’m kinda worried for ghost still then
Things that required you be unnoticed tend not be super strong in PF2E, and I doubt that’ll change much in SF2E
As stated, this is a second hand retelling, so it could just as easily be undetected
If it’s undetected then it’s probably fine tbh
Yah if it’s undetected it’s probably fine because like, that works so long as you start a fight hidden I think
You can become Undetected via Hide and then Sneak
Yah that’ll be fine then
Also do we know what aim does specifically?
Because it keeps referencing it
Skirmisher fascinates me
Gun kata
And Striker too, str based Agile melee dude is cool
Knife fighter!
It's a new action I'm p sure? It's been mentioned once or twice
But there's not much detail on it
Yah it’s really neat how striker seems to be str focused despite being agile focused
That’s not super common in this game
I'd assume Aim gives you a small circumstance bonus on a ranged attack or something
Most of the time it’s either str or dex or dex specifically for agile based classes
Makes sense
And might enable some other keywords
Admittedly, striker says you CAN take str
You can still be a dex knife ninja with striker
But you can also be a commando with a big ass bowie knife and I think thats neat
Big ass Bowie knives just feel sci-fi to me
Idk why
Well I mean like
Techy Bowie knives
Plasma or high frequency knives
I think the idea for me is something like raiden's sword from MGR
Yah that’s another idea
Plasma blades cannot bathe in the blood of their enemies
Ooooo
So it's not a lot of damage but it's likely not a roll to aim correctly or anything
And I assume other feats and abilities will interact with it
Probably
Maybe something like whenever you aim, you can ignore cover
I'm really interested to see Witchwarper and Solarian
Yeah they both seem very interesting
I want to see how Solarians swapping between modes feels
And the anchoring management for Witchwarper
do we know when the pf2e remaster 2 is coming to foundry?
The 1st I believe
sick
Same with sf2e
Im gonna obliterate you
Similar territory to Gymnast I'd say
Dirty Trick has a nice effect but it has Attack
So its a bit tricky to work into finisher loops
Ah damn
It is Dex based at least
Did they buff alchemist’s bomb profs?
they get Master prof at 15 now
Great
Also I just wanna clarify something on focus spells
All focus spells only cost 1 focus point right?
The number associated like focus 3 or focus 5 is just their spell rank?
yes
Ok great
And spell rank for focus spells increases automatically with levels
oh sick
they're basically Cantrips 2
Yah, just with an extra resource
I’m planning out a flame druid so I was making sure
Because combustion is pretty damn good
I think I wanna try making my druid a strix
Any particularly good fire spells in the primal list?
Fireball?
Dehydrate is good for hitting fire weaknesses
Ignition
Dehydrate is fun and also just terrifying to imagine
Hey, what's the source for this btw?
I see!
I don't know if there's a published full list of "here's what's in it" but its 10 ancestries, 2 versatile heritages, 6 classes, details on skills (its mostly just computers and piloting), 27 backgrounds, a bunch of feats (not counting at the moment), equipment, spells, and some rules stuff
So if you want monsters, you want the stuff in the playtest docs already released, the stuff in the adventures coming out, and the ones in the Second Contact free rpg day pdf
Computers and Piloting getting skills is rad
writing up some homebrew starfinder stuff for the free captains because there is a serious lack of free captain lore...
I wonder if any preexisting skills will get new actions
I bet craft is getting an overhaul
Like, spaceships or
prob refering to what rance said
I'm imaging them as like, neo-feudal pirates
Pirate Lords have free captains under them who pay tribute and are expected to mobilise if they are needed, but are otherwise free to do what they want. Conversly, the Pirate Lords have a duty to help their captains when required
If you and your crew are imprisoned, the Pirate Lord has to help you out, etc
