Is it a voice? I assumed it was more like a letter
It's much easier to forge someone's choice of words than voice
Afaik it’s like actually talking to them
I have apparently successfully captured the vibe of our game
by saying I have made my character operating under the assumption that the vibe was basically 'What if Twin Peaks happened in Zaun?'
make sure to give yourself a bladed scarf
If for nothing else then the style points
Man, there are some cool domain spells
Starting Alkenstar tonight!
Noice!
We got a nagaji redeemer champion, a cat folk vanguard gunslinger, gnome half-orc barbarian, and an automaton construct inventor (me)
It’s gonna be my first time as a player in PF2e in years
I just played a session of Alkenstar!
Your party is oddly similar to ours, we've got a barb (me), automaton construct inventor and a War cleric who was thinking of playing champion. We had a gunslinger but they died.
Only 3 players though
Vibe of the campaign does seem to draw people towards more martial stuff, and definitely towards guns and gears
Yeah, even though it mostly elides surgetime mechanics
Which is nice because those are incredibly rough on casters
It… shouldn’t be gone afaik
It’s a guns and gears thing and that’s iirc not really changing in the remaster
it's not on the foundry for the arquebus so I have no idea what's happened
I hope kickback isn’t gone
That seems more like a data entry issue than a removal
Yeah, there's nothing that would have kickback in the remaster yet so
Fortunately you can just add the trait back on in foundry
We out here writing a decade’s worth of journal entries in character
we got this fellow PC (in the same game)
We are starting off strong with the characterization
Will see gameplay wise 😝
lol
I am definitely setting early roots for her devil may care attitude and penchant for wanderlust and going from interest to interest
I think we have a very interesting party vibe
I've been having fun building a sniper gunslinger that critfishes like crazy recently
Tumble Behind for ranged flat footed and then Sniper's Aim
Am I sniping? Uhhhhh
No
I'm really thinking rn
how do I make bloodborne in pf2e
as in how do I make john bloodborne, the character, and have a gun and a cool weapon
Drifter slinger seems a natural choice
drifter slinger is more focused on the sword part
can a thaumaturge be a good frontline
I know nothing about the class
Dueling pistol and lion scythe is basically a saw cleaver hunter
And yeah, they're not gonna be wicked tanky but they are good at melee
wait no I need to have my implement out
shit
wait my implement can be a weapon awesome
I can make it a pistol
my HOLY WRATH
Thaum is gonna have trouble using more than one weapon
yeah
realising that
thinking of using a dex-strength gunslinger
because it would be
really cool to have a pistol and an axe
The flat iron bar of an immovable rod has been worked into the core frame of this prosthetic arm, a small button discreetly placed at the heel of the hand.Activate [one-action] Interact; Effect You curl your fingers inward to press the button on the heel of your hand, anchoring your prosthetic arm in place. Your arm no longer moves, defying gr...
holy shit
it's so good
eeeehhh?
uhhh maybe if you’re some sort of 14 dex 16 str melee slinger
You should have 18 Dex so... no?
which is probably not viable
I think 14 dex is doable if you pick a gun that's actually got good damage
like you could just be a fighter instead and it would be better
as long as you can leverage the stat boosts that gives you
just because having an axe would be... really cool...
like
harmona gun doesn't even have fatal
or blunderbuss for scatter
mainly thinking vanguard here tbh
probably go sentinel so not actually using the medium armour for medium armour
but because it unlocks heavy armour
wondering if maybe taking gunslinger dedication and just playing a fighter would get me what I want...
explicitly just so I can get https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=3159
You're comfortable wielding a firearm or crossbow in one hand and a melee weapon in the other, combining melee attacks with shots from the firearm. When you make a successful ranged Strike against an enemy within your reach with your one-handed firearm or one-handed crossbow, that enemy is flat-footed against your next melee attack with a one-ha...
Honestly it’s not like, the worst idea
I mean play at a high enough level and you can just get reload strike even yeah
Sword and pistol is a good feat
yeah
it's gonna be a level 10 character
oh wait
another reason to use medium armour is it gets different runes
but that also doesn't come into play until quite late
The medium armor is deffo kind of just Vanguard Flavor
Though yes it does open the road to Heavy Armor Slinger which is kinda sexy
really considering my options
fighter with the gunslinger dedication would be really cool
but a dedicated drifter would also go hard...
hhhhhhh
so many good choices
You move in and out of range to complement your attacks. You Step, make a Strike, Step, and make another Strike. One Strike must be a ranged Strike using your firearm or crossbow, and the other must be a melee Strike using your melee weapon or unarmed attack. You can choose not to take one or both Steps.
definitely can't take this at level 10 outside gunslinger
Switchscythe is also an extremely bloodborne-ass weapon
not sure if gunslinger archetype can even take it at all though?
cause you don't technically get your way even though you have to pick one
ok that sold me but also idk the actual use-case of this
Honestly, an investigator that just occasionly draws a pistol when they get a nutty devise roll wouldn't be the worst approach
avoiding reactions partially
I think you do
based on the wording it says "you gain your ways associated skill"
Ranged attacks provoke AoO
So you use this to weave out of weapon threat during gun shoot then go in for sword stab
not raw I mean
keyword there is
your
as in
you have that way
not "You gain that ways associated skill"
You have entered a druidic circle and learned a few of the order’s secrets, granting you primal power.
like compare to druid
which is very explicit
and then there's archetypes that don't give you a subclass option at all like rogue
so it's not like there's a universal norm to go on
but yeah you'd also be surprised how often tiny steps get you somewhere useful
true
skirmish strike and the triggerbrand reload I've seen do some great stuff
I'm of the opinion that you can probably take your subclass' feats with slinger dedication
If only because I'd really like to take Triggerbrand Salvo on other classes
im tryna weigh up the benefits of going a fighter
idk if fighter really offers much to this vibe that drifter does not
does this unload a firearm?
You're always ready to take a quick shot to deflect a weapon or distract a foe enough to render them off target. The ally gains a +2 circumstance bonus to their AC against the triggering attack. You use this reaction after the result of the attack roll is revealed, so you know whether the +2 will make a sufficient difference.
based on the fake out pfs notes, no
For the purpose of gunslinger feats and abilities, if the ability states that you fire your weapon, you fire your weapon; if it does not state as such, you do not have to fire your weapon. Notably, Fake Out does not require you to actually fire your weapon.
realised running reload isn't that useful
I still need a free hand for it
fuck
changed it up
breath control is such a cool general feat
yer telling me I can hold my breath for 900 seconds?
There’s gotta be some sauce in tengu ranger
Run flurry
Get 2 of the fatal d12 advanced swords
Hope to god you crit
Dual wielding Falcatas....
That’s the one
How does "Radiance" sound as a name for a Nephilim Tengu
pretty baller
fair
untrained improv is crazy good
it sure is
I cant believe I was up until like 5 in the morning making a character for a campaign that wont be starting for months
Hell, I still am up but I'm sleeping soon
This includes a nice thick novel (hyperbolic) of backstory for my GM (including worldbuilding for the stuff they said we can fill in the blanks for and make up ourselves)
This is maybe a stupid question
Is there anywhere in Golarion analogous to Spain or the western Mediterranean more generally?
I feel Cheliax is kind of supposed to be that
Though obviously its Narrative Niche got taken by
Uh
Something else
But its got like
Draconian religious persecution, a really big navy that recently got crushed in a world-state-changing-event
I more meant like
flamenco, musketeers, etc
xD
but I did find that Taldor and Cheliax sort of
provide those two sides
in their melange of stuff
Yeah I was gonna rec Taldor next
I looked up the Iconic Swash to see where shes from and the answer is 'piratetown' but she's always wanted to go to Taldor because its a land of dueling and romance
And that one Rondelero fighting style with the buckler and
Uh
Well Falcatta but thats an anachronism no matter where its from
Which seems very dueling-styled
Well I mean
A modern day US marine slinging around a lever action would be an anachronism regardless of whether it was American right
It's an anachronism not an ana....geoism?? I dunno you get what I mean
Well that gets to the thing of ‘can we discern what era of history Golarion by and large draws from’ and I am firmly on the team of ‘the writers neither know nor consider’
Well
They probably consider
But the answer is likely ‘what is interesting’
It def does vary by region yeah
Though I would say that if anything can be said about taldors time vibes it is that they are not 'pre roman iberia'
eh, fair
I just want a team bonding exercise for my new group to be doing flamenco dancing in a dive bar lol
I'm a foreign-educated minor noble and another is an Ashavan cleric so I think it'd be fun
Varisia may also work
A cursory search implies that matadors are a thing there at least
This is also how I learned that the pf1e book on Magnimar details an ANIMAL CRUELTY THEMED TAVERN called the Matadors Lodge?????????????
PF1e is Fucking NUTS man
Every time I look in there I find some INSANE shit
I think the issue there is that comes later from where the inspiration might be taken from
A lot of early modern to even fairly recent
Across the Inner Sea Abadar has long been the favored deity of city-dwellers, thanks to his dedication to all things urban. You won't find a city of any size in the region that doesn't boast a sizable temple to honor his tenets of expanding civilization, promoting prosperity, and following the rule of law. This pantheon expands his focus by enjo...
Urban Prosperity worshippers wishing you a happy zoning and taxes
abadar worshippers be like "I pray to see your business ventures prosper"
oh no I have free archetype
what do I choose
vigilante is my current idea, they go around beating up mean evil business owners and fighting their private security lackies who think they get paid enough to get shot at
but I don't particularly vibe with the whole split personality thing
also I need to be a master in so many skills and gunslinger just aint built for it
I hope you have fun, running PF is a joy
When it comes to a weapon's level, is it the highest level of the highest rune?
or additive?
The former
You’re gonna do great
eyyy good luck
random question
I'm noticing my character is starting to exude like
Bond character vibes
what's a good archetype for that?
Investigator?
Already the character's actual class XD
alter ego miiiiiight work?
Though I guess that’s more, mission impossible rubber masks
lol
It doesn't help this character isn't charismatic when like
She's a womanizer lmao
Knows how to navigate high society, always absorbing information, womanizer, agendas upon agendas upon agendas
I guess taking both bond and his villains and shoving them in a blender
I think it'll just have to come down to how I play her
She has the skills for it
or failing that skill substitutions
courtly graces, acrobatic performer, etc etc
dandy is the archetype probs
Oh yah dandy would work
well that's the social butterfly part
'conniving fuck' probably has an archetype
but dandy requires actually having those social skills, rather than substitutions lmao
Admittedly I feel like conniving fuck is kinda covered by investigator
lmao
That’s part of their deal
What sucks is there's a spy archetype
The Lion Blades
But this game takes place 100 years into the future and we're theoretically becoming enemies of Taldor lmao
maybe narratively the techniques of the Shadow Schools have become less exclusive
in that time
I think some combination of Overwatch and stuff might be good
I'm tempted to take dandy for my current character actually...
thanks for bringing it up
Defecting former lion blade could be cool
Doesn't make sense in character, she's from Tian Xia and has only resided in Taldor a month at most
Could just take it and reflabor it
This is also true
man
If I hadn't flavored her as an aldori
I would 100% give her a gun
I just realised I made my gunslinger character communist batman that shoots people
so
so communist batman
(this is not a joke)
(There is an elseworlds communist batman what shoots people)
lmfao
(Well he may not be a communist)
(I think he's ideologically communist at least in terms of more basic socialist tenets, but does hate the Soviet government)
(Look up Red Son it's great)
oh from red son?
Yes lol
yeah I was under the impression he was not a communist
or rather is more motivated by vengeance than anything
Fair
Anyway
sounds like a cool character
Mine is batman but if he moved from Japan to Gotham and was very open about simultaneously being a playboy and a badass
And a woman
They're for a friends homebrew setting on a giant floating city that travels Golarion, inspired by Columbia from Bioshock Infinite (without the racism) and piltover/zaun from League
lmao
my gm said I captured the vibe of our game by saying 'Twin Peaks but in Zaun'
LMFAO
basically she is a rich, affluent high society type who has recent inherited a large business and fortune from her parents
but she also goes into the undercity to beat the shit out of abusive bosses and corrupt businessmen
Nice
I didn't meant to make just batman it sort of happened
they weren't originally going to be a vigilante but I needed some excuse for her to be a rich socialite and also be a level 10 gunslinger
Mine more takes from the 'spent years in various foreign countries training'
mixed with Meiji Restoration era politics
that's always really cool
i.e. she's a noble's daughter sent to learn western technologies and get university educated
She instead dropped out and eloped with an Aldori swordmaster that she has in turn recently left
Yes
This does mean
That the closest character comparative of hers to Ra's al-Ghul
Is someone she slept with
But
We can ignore that
She went to Lepidstadt University in Ustalav
Oh
Your character
sorry lmao
Also my gm just told me guns are common in our game
Uuuuuuuhhh
oh wow yeah
kiiiind of slavic/germanic?
Lepidstadt is goin wild
Think innistrad
I am convinced otherwise
It’s kind of Frankenstein mad science themed
avistan is exactly where you want to go for advanced technology
So that kind of Eastern European kind of aesthetic
Ustalav is vampires, Frankenstein, and some other spooky stuff all mixed together
Holy shit Dandy can make me expert in deception and society????
Thats amazing
I was sat here worrying I wasn't going to be able to be good in the really important face skills on account of being a gunslinger but now Dandy makes it way easier
I should probably play into that for my archetype choices since we're doing a ghost hunter campaign
I wonder if we'll see a bigger focus on the stasian bullshit over there at some point
well I guess I already am
since my second dedication is gonna be shadowdancer lmao
I see distracting flattery from dandy and I have to wonder why it's a deception check
I feel like it works as good if not better thematically with a diplomacy check
cuz then someone could feat chain that shit with courtly graces
Like me
and make diplomacy checks with society
Oh, I guess in that vein: are there any archetypes that have an emphasis on diplomacy?
it's most deception
infact the only diplomacy check it's feats require of you is the dedication to spread rumours
yeahhhhh I cant find any
tempted to take Party Crasher from dandy so I can use that skill feat myself
originally I had the skill feat for it but I could take it with dandy and use it on... something else
not sure what except another additional lore
pf2e is one of those games that feels easy to GM
Nice
So
I have realized that all of our party only shares Common as a language we all know
and my character is kind of bad at it, at least compared to her other languages
So she probably doesn't like that lmao
Last night my party realized that we aren’t especially suited to thievery for a party of outlaws (of alkenstar)
I think I’m the only with it trained and my dex is only a +1
We did Dinner At Lionlodge without using the premades and my champ had to tank a crit fail from a trap in a door because none of us were even trained in thievery
Which, to be fair, was a wicked funny moment but
eh, none of us have health over 8+Con per level
Got to do the first combats in vloodlords with my kineticist, I like how he feels mechanically
I do feel like a "ima do this one thing" but it's super flexible
Great Jitte
Disarm, Grapple, Parry
Price 5 SP; Damage 1d8; Bulk 1
Hands 2
Type: Melee; Category Martial; Group Club
A long solid club with a smaller parrel bar useful for catching weapons and holding arms
Does this look like to much?
Its a MOTHERFUCKER of a twohander thats for sure
I would earnestly make it Advanced
Very fair yah
Well, hm
I guess with d8 it may be fine as martial
I could make it advanced and add more traits I wanted to
reach
Because like
The key downsides of a twohander is that
You cannot use maneuvers
And you cannot use AC stuff
This solves both of those handily, but its also taken two die size hits for it
So the comparison to make is like
This vs a Warhammer plus free hand
YESSSS
This as a d10 would be a FEISTY advanced wep
Like in a good way
Hmm
Maybe I should do that actually yah
Because like, you gotta compare it to just running a one handed weapon and a free hand
magma you wanna see the dex katana I made xD
Sure!
Uncommon, Deadly D8, Finesse, Two-Hand D8, Versatile P
Price 1 gp; Damage 1d6 S; Bulk 1
Hands 1
Type Melee; Category Advanced; Group Sword
Also this is for a homebrew anyway, so like, I could make this advanced, but then make that general feat that treats an advanced weapon like it’s martial anyway…
Oh only one handed?
Also why Ko-Katana?
because base katana exists
and ko-katana means at least in a modern sense a shorter, lighter katana
Ah neat
Disarm, Grapple, Parry
Price 5 SP; Damage 1d10; Bulk 1
Hands 2
Type: Melee; Category Advanced; Group Club
A long solid club with a smaller parrel bar useful for catching weapons and holding arms```
Also yah I like the idea of making this advanced and a d10
I need me a pollax
What’s that?
Okay so imagine a spear
Then put an axe below the point
And a hammer on the reverse side of the axeblade
So uh
Basically a halberd with a whack bit
Oh that
I’ve just never seen it spelled like that
I’ve only seen it spelled pole axe with two words
pollax is the old timey word for it
I use it because when you say Pole Axe you usually get people say "there's halberds in the game"
They are relatively short weapons
Poleaxes werent all that long
Yeah trip is good
It's hard to get quite to the heart and soul of a pollax in a game like PF2e because a pollax is fundamentally a can opener
It exists to tear into an armored opponent in every way imaginable
I do feel like “do any type of physical damage you want” is a sorta good niche with the right extra tags
There’s so few weapons with versatile bludgeoning to begin with
Giving an axe it seems fine
Oh this is great poppet art
Jitte
Agile, Grapple, Nonlethal, Parry
Price 1 SP; Damage 1d4; Bulk L
Hands 1
Type: Melee; Category Martial; Group Club
A short thin Baton with a smaller club parallel to the main weapon, useful for catching blades in tight spaces.```
Also the normal Jitte counterpart to go with the bigger thing
Basically a night stick that trades finesse for grapple
This is nice! Very cool weapon for like, double slice fighter
Yeah definitely. There's no real such thing as anti-armour in pf2e
There is, it's saves
Honestly the thing probably best flavored as an anti armor attack is the sword crit
Just making them off guard for a turn
shocking grasp
idk especially with bulwark I feel like targetting reflex isn't that big an anti armour play
Depends on if you're looking for anti-player armour or anti-NPC armour. As most heavily armoured NPCs will have reflex as a weakness
Whilst PCs can be more rounded
true
and today is April fools
Oh wait I get the joke now :v
Yeah I'm dumb
"What if Aroden lived?"
On that topic
This week's Godsrain Prophecy is about one of the gods who is a member of the Godclaw pantheon. #pathfinder2e #warofimmortals
Iomadae, Torag, Irori, and Abadar (and Asmedoeus but we know he's safe)
gonna say Iomedae or Abadar this week
Same
Abadar has such an interesting death that would suck to play it. It has to be him
Karl Marx personally kills Abadar
Of all the remaining gods, his death would make the play experience substantially worse
Commerce and Law definitely has a lot of potential for how it would fuck things up
I think it's gonna be Iomedae or Abadar yeah
I believe Lenin is still alive.
I feel like Irori is in that category of 'not likely to actually die in WoI but he may have a cool death prophecy' so I hope its him
Yeah thats also possible
Also for some reason Modern Golarion is in my head again
Skyfinder I guess?
Rovagug still in the runnnnnning baaaabbbbbyyyyy
What's the current bingo sheet?
Lemme grab it
Thanks
100% sarenrae
she enters it 2 seconds before dying
I mean she's gonna die
Ah
Yeah Saranrae or Rovugug is my guess
I think we learn next week who dies for real right?
Yeah I always felt Saranrae or Shylin were the ones to die
Wait no, the 16th we learn
2 weeksish then
“Skinsaw man” so Novrborger is still alive
This is released before WoI
he could show up in the adventure and just go help I'mma die soon
I mean the Prophecy from Stolen Fate says uhhh
laughing in delight at beloved mortal entertainers,
while others consume them and choke them with
cruelty. ```
my strength of thousands players are new to pathfinder so when a norgorber cult got mentioned they were like 'what's his deal', then i mentioned his 'father skinsaw' epithet and they responded 'oh i get it'
Which given its a 11-20 adventure about creating and playing an Opera
Seems to probably be relevant
Oh hey new Starfinder book
hmmmmmm
I heard if you buy it and flip to page 73 it says which god is gonna die in woi
A notebook 😌
https://paizo.com/products/btq02f0s?Starfinder-THE-GAP
wow
this is technically the first sf2e book
Is it part of the ORC?
literally every word in the entire book is public domain!
I was thinking of making this joke but I think having 'Starfinder: The Gap' on the cover would in fact encourage some kind of licensing structure to be applied to it?
They released the PDF for free. As far as I can tell, there is no licensing at all.
Like, nothing at all.
that makes sense to me
IANAL, but this may not have any copyright or trademarks
You may just be able to print and sell this yourself.
Damn..........
Starfinder is in the public domain.............
I can sell as much Gap-related content as I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just be careful the clothing store The Gap doesn't sue
What a huge milestone for the Starfinder team!
↘️ Quoting Paizo (@paizo)
A message from... INSIDE THE GAP?!
https://paizo.me/49jgCcw
Has anyone downloaded the pdf?
Is it blank after all?
Or have they thrown in some jokey details
It seems to be blank
No
That's right, this book is BLANK. We repeat: THERE IS NOTHING WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK... yet! We may not be willing to divulge the secrets of The Gap, but we are willing to go a long way for an April Fool's joke. This is a real hardcover book containing 160 pages of blank matte paper, perfect for concocting your own theories about what may have transpired during the missing years between Golarion and Absalom Station.
Written by: Nobody! Seriously, it's blank.
i cant believe a paizo employee legally changed their name to Nobody just so they could hide the Secrets
Honestly I think this is the correct way to do an April Fools joke
Just do something silly and be totally transparent about it
Isn't common in 2e just a placeholder for wherever your game primarily takes place? Like in the strength of thousands ap it's actually mwangi
(assuming you mean the language and not the rarity tier)
That's correct
In the Inner Sea it's Taldan IIRC
yeah
but there is just no actual use for it
like, I think it complicates more than it simplifies at that point
in dnd, common is just "the language everyone speaks"
but then in pathfinder, common is a broad simplification term for a wide variety of languages, and two people who speak "common" on their character sheet might not share a language
If that ends up being the case, that’s a campaign setup problem. What language is treated as common should be pre-established by the time you’re making characters
sure
BUT
its still a little more complicated
what about regions that probably dont speak taldane?
what about campaigns that might go all throughout golarion?
Ehhh
If you take AWAY common within the system, the game kinda becomes too setting specific imo
I already struggle to explain stuff like Taldane showing up in the foundry languages list instead of common to my friends who are new to the system lol
I can’t imagine having to be like “okay so take Tien if you want to be able to speak…. Uh….. Chinese?”
It’s weird
I dont think it's setting specific
I think it's more grounded in the setting
but yeah i mean it has that issue
I mean
you have to already know all this and actively choose to replace your free common with a different 'common' for it to be a problem
I guess
like in mwangi campaigns like SoT common is mwangi and not taldane
so even if you make a character who's come from further away you have to actively choose to make it a thing that mwangi is an additional language for you instead of your default etc
and then for rip-roaring campaigns like uhh that one one
age of ashes
you have like a starting point and then not necessarily sharing a language in other places is part of the point
I think my point is here that common is a concept that is failsafe. if you don't know or care to know about different languages everyone has common so it's not something you need to worry about
and then people who do know about it are self-selected to implement the necessary implications
it can be kinds fun to have a language barrier in the party
i also enjoy when GM's actually have NPCs or places that speak other languages
makes some translation spells worthwhile
The PCs having to deal with language barriers can be interesting, language barriers within the party seem just "I lose one spell a day to cast this translation thing"
eh
mechanically languages are binary so yes
but you can definitely play it otherwise
and different blocs in the party being able to have private conversations can be juicy
yeah i second that, but also i think using skill checks to assess intent and meaning and using that as an rp hook can be fun rp and narrative play moments
also teaching each other languages is a cool dynamic
Different people having different languages in common is pretty great
I actually made it a point in one of my characters to speak a language that each party member also has that the others dont
just for the sake of at some point talking to them in that language and helping them bond
I am always looking for ways to make other PCs like my PC... maybe this says something about me or maybe I am just looking to make a good story
The only language we all share in my party is Taldane
And I'm making it a point that for my character, Taldane is her most recently learned and she's the worst at it
And is always muttering to herself in the other five languages she knows lol
Fwiw PFS rules smooth over this by just giving everyone an extra regional language when the season involves places far from taldor
Which seems like an easy fix if it comes up in a campaign
Regional Common is kind of funny because in our SOT game my Summoner is a runaway from Cheliax so he knows Mwangi by default as an SOT PC, and is obliged to know Taldane, a fairly useless language in that game, by his lore
So our Face only knows common
But
I don't think thats like, a problem
Its a Funny Thing
So the Paizo website seems to have new "we are currently down" art
I hope that means the rest of the website gets its promised overhaul soon
https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6sijq?Zoetrope-Logs-Part-Three-Potential-for-Change#discuss Seems like they are really experimenting with ancestries.
Makes me more hopeful for SF2 after the vote only showed the two saftest options
Is that the current one? Because I've definitely seen that one before
Surkis look so cool
I've only seen the starfinder one before
I love the fact that their appearance evolves with feats
Awakened seems very nice for flexibility
get to choose your size and then presumably a lot of different heritages to further diversify
Climb speed of 20 is also pretty good as a heritage, even if your land speed is also reduced
I just wish they showed how they are balancing large ancestries
Climb speed is insane
Like, I assume they are, but even without extra reach they would be better than medium for martials.
Large with basic reach is my assumption
I don't think the benefit is really that much personally
A medium creature with no reach controls 9 squares, while a large creature with no reach controls 16, almost double
and it does also make it harder to move around to a non trivial degree IMO
aiui it means anywhere you don't fit all your squares is difficult terrain which is pretty big
but I can't find the rules to reference
that is correct AFAIK, but I also don't have a citation rn
it also means you can't do stuff like diagonally weaving through enemies and such
and you generally get blocked by enemies more
kinda interested in the fact that size and health are linked for awakened animals
curious what the details of that will be
like ik it's kinda already a design standard but
also just realised I'll probably be able to make the griffon character I played once in pf2e now, without custom options
gonna assume ancestry HP and size will go up together
so tiny will probably have 6, and large either 10 or 12
Guy who exlusively plays Awakened animals of animals they hate
awakened animal that hates the animal they are
or just in general awakening angst
like that one guy in the matrix
Animal that existed entirely happily in a endless game of persuing and being persuid but then they get awakened and suddenly Murder is a crime
like before if you disagreed with someone you could just bite them but now if you disagree with someone you have to talk to them
If you bite people they send you to prison
idk there's a lot more biting people in golarion than irl
Just break out
You’re an adventurer
Guards are like, what level 2?
Literally just kill them
If an animal bites people they tend to get put down
It’s not that hard
I feel like especially if you're a species with dangerous teeth, like if a human bit you it'd have very different legal consiquences than a like gnoll or awakened animal
And biting animals is not a crime
depends who the animal is
That's animal abuse
Like you went out and bit a wild dog, someone could still get you arrested for that
dog bites man and no one bats an eyelid. man bites dog and it's on the front page. curious
awakened dog posting
Dog man bites mans dog, trial impending
I mean, if the dog is threatening you, thats self defense, and if its hunting thats no worse than a bow
yeah if but if you hunt in a random place you might be poaching
Hunting is only legal if you own the land
also if you can convince a jury that killing something with your actual teeth is the same as shooting it with a bow, you deserve your law license
course if you're a dragon people are often nervous to press charges
also, you can just pretend to not be awakened.
"not me officer, I'm just a regular dog"
plus if someone's nose gets bitten off they're just like
you live in the kennels now
yea, but thats the same as before you were awakened.
being awakened can only help you escape the kennels
was he bitten by a radioactive human?
yes, and if you were still a non awakened animal who bit someone's noes off, you would still go to the kennels
biting someone's noes off is not only a problem once you become sapient
I don't think they really say much about whatever thing bits the man's nose off
although when the man later bites a child's nose of himself they both end up living in the kennels
but disney for some reason didn't think that would make good cinema so the internet doesn't appear to much care
I joined a Pokémon fan game server and the mods immediately abducted me for a pf2e game
oh shit
The first day I talked and they went "THIS MF KNOWS ABOUT PF2E" and abducted me
I'm going straight to Numeria guys, gals, and nonbinary pals
lmaoo
Yeah I'm curious about that too
Because Tiny 6 HP just seems
Worrrrssseeee?
Than Large 10?
Unless your GM is putting a lot of Dishonored-style mouse hole passageways for your tiny dude to be The Tiny Dude or something
That said
As someone who already did not care about being a Jerboa bard or something I'm glad I can play a big dude with lots of health
Love me big dudes with lots of health
You don't wanna play as a small mouse rogue? Lame
I want to play a smilodon or wolverine or something yes
Wait is ancestry health no longer gonna be case by case?
I just realized given Golarion as a setting you could quite easily play a dinosaur
For Awakened Animals, they can be any size from Tiny to Large, and their HP is tied to their size
Ohhh
As like, a sub-heritage
As they can be Any Animal
Yah Ngl tiny 6 seems way worse then large 10
well I am assuming it correlates directly
which it might not
because logically it makes more sense to me for large to have more HP
You could be like those videos I see of the spinosaurus with a sword
it also might be like "small or tiny is N, medium or large is N+2"
Mhm, that makes sense
also possible
my off the cuff guess would probably still be
tiny 6, small and medium 8, large 10
or large is a step lower than medium and
Has No Intrinsic Merit. Unless Inordinate Exsanguination Be Considered A Virtue
Go Buy Darkest Dungeon! It's pretty dang good: http://store.steampowered.com/app/262060/
Yeah that was mine too but it feels like a really large variance within an ancestry
just seems a bit odd without further context
what other tiny ancestries do we even have so far?`
just poppet and sprite?
they are also both at 6
though I do agree that being tiny seems like a mostly bad deal
since you get probably less HP and the reach thing
or like ant gnoll
doesn't reduce a gnoll's hp
or wisp fetchling
fleshwarps get to be 10 hp even when small even
idk
basic ancestry statistics balance is a bit of a weird one in general
it's because AIUI they mostly go by flavor, with balance as a secondary consideration
As god intended
which is fair
it's also why ancestry stat boosts are a bit tilted towards certain stats
and it's not like a 2 point swing is huge in any case
it just feels like unnecessary detail at a certain point
If your gm is lenient you can probably ask to fiddle with the details
I will say
Something people don’t consider a lot with size
Is that being large is kinda a massive issue for AOES
It’s way easier to catch you in one, and way harder for your party to avoid hitting you
Which I think balances the number of squares threatened issue which, imo, is only an issue in theory
In practice large creatures without reach aren’t that much better than medium creatures lol
This is true
Also RAW it makes flanking way worse
what large ancestries are there?
Because you have to draw a line from the center of your token, through the center of the enemies, to the center of your ally, to be flanking
Which is nearly impossible as a large creature vs a medium
There will be Minotaur, centaur, and Awakened Animal
In howl
Yeah this is the first
I think you can be either
The Awakened Animal shown is an anthro badger
I would not be surprised at all if there was a heritage like desert rat or hunter automaton that was like 'your still better at four legs than 2, 30 foot speed if your hands are free'
So you can be a wolf stance wolf monk that just bites people to death
Really excited for the new books!
hmm
Would a free archetype Fighter with Archer Dedication, sword and shield, and Lightning Swap be anything? 🤔
There’s just something I find appealing about the idea of a “Hybrid” style fighter
oh boy do I have something to show my fellow switch-hitter enthusiast
As the name implies, a shield bow is a bow with an integrated shielding surface. While versatile and effective, a shield bow's architecture limits its flexibility somewhat, decreasing its total draw strength and penetrating power.
Archery and sword/board are both kinda feat heavy so maybe bow/2h melee might work better
Yeah, I specified free archetype for that reason lol
thrown is a bit easier to handle for various reasons
dual weapon warrior is not bad at all actually
I wish pf2e had more unique Outer Gods
The ones that are unique the Pathfinder are so cool
TEN!
ye
Started running a Kingmaker game for some freinds, and session 1 saw them having a bandit surrender, and doing the PC thing of adopting a scrimblo.
His name is Jirc
Pronounced "jerk"
Realising that I should not be a drifter gunslinger with 0 constitution
Planning some builds myself. If I go fighter into eldritch archer, I don't need to actually get any charisma if I pick primal right?
It'll help some of my spells deal more damage
But I can also pick gouging claw and deal plenty
if you don't pick up literally any charisma, your gouging claw would have -4 to hit compared to your main attack
How so?
I imagine they plan on delivering it solely through Eldritch shot
You roll one dice, I assume if you have different modifiers you'll get 2 different resaults?
No
You make a strike, if it hits also do the spell with no roll
I'm just wondering if it's worth doing with 0 in charisma
Or if I should sap some from wisdom (cos I'm also acting as group medic)
Tbf we should be getting a druid back at some point? Maybe they could provide some heals
My basic thought is
You will not be casting offensive spells save to spellshot
So dumping cha is likely fine
Esp since cantrips no longer add spellcasting mod to damage
Yeah it's a straight buff to no-Int magi and the like
Con is a myth made up by big health to make you buy more HP when really you only need one Health Point the last Health Point
Alright I
Want to try to figure out a small subsystem to use
When my players are trying to make contact with a squad of secret agents in like
A fucked up ruined city
Should I just do a victory point system do you think?
I guess I could also do Infiltration actually
okay but I would like more than the last hit point
And roll it in as an objective of their wider deal, which is to get into a building and steal a book
||Irori is more powerful than I thought||
Also there seems to be a hint that the actual dead god will involve the void and the fundamentals of the universe
The only god of something fundamental left is Gozreh
and they seem more fitting than most to die by some void
But everyone else is the god of something human, or the god of monsters. Maybe Rovagug is considered fundamental, but I'm not sure
||Nethys blackhole enlightenment||
if someone polymorphs themselves with a magic item, can that be counteracted with dispel magic?
Yes
If they aren't a hint, they are a red herring. Otherwise, what are they?
The author did not put random sentences in there for no reason.
I don’t appreciate the tone
Idk, there might be SOMETHING in the void, I just mean like
They might not all be hinting at the same thing
IE they might not all be about which god will die, just might be about which parts of these prophecies are real
I think there could be something bad in the void
Thats how the void tends to be
I could see the war being not between core deities but with the dark tapestry gods
And they use this opportunity to change them from the real ass lovecraft gods maybe since they’ve been shying away from using existing properties
I hope not, that'd be really lame
just, "everyone is still friends and everything"
They…. Aren’t friends now lmao
Like I’m sorry even in WOI Shelyn and Iomadae aren’t gonna fight
The thing is, while thats absolutely possible, theres so many things it could be that theorizing about any of that is kinda just guess work
We know a god is going to die. We know almost nothing else
I have lost money on the Irori bet, but the Calistria one is still open
That’s fair, I just don’t think ALL of the things from uhhh
The afterwords of these are plausibly gonna be related
Like I don’t think Arazni is gonna kill Gozreh with the power of the void while a beast is there
one of those at least will probably happen
But also, what could the fundamentals of the universe mean other than a god?
The Dark Tapestry
Anyways this makes Irori seems kinda like a jerk
Maybe that's just me though
I mean he fixed what he did at first at least
It's less that and more the... selfish disregard of pretty much everything else I guess?
Like he fucked up and fixed it but he doesn't seem like a best person
Also apperantly thinks Death is a skill issue
I mean
That’s pretty much befitting a guy who thinks he’s the best and his only real concern is BEING the best
Damn now i wanna see Irori meet Aesma
Regardless
So, the common traits we seem to see are:
Inversion of domains in one way or another
The void and beings from it
Anything else?
hehe the wizard just got stupified by spell turning
If you became a god by just wanting it hard enough you have to be a bit of an ass
normal people don't want to become a god so hard they trancend
Flavor text for the 'this god isn't going to die' bingo card post
The little short stories for the howl of the wild ancestry previews aren't really 'important' as such either
Funny idea
Rovagug will be revealed to like
Have been dead for years
And his followers were getting powers from his spawn
Just a moth eaten corpse lmao
Did they trap Rovagug because they couldnt kill him or because of Serenraes whloe "We gotta give him a chance at forgiveness" thing
Ok, but the authors know they sound like hints. So either they are hints, or flavor text that they want us to think are hints (aka a red herring)
Couldn’t kill him
If they didn't want us to think these were hints, there are much better ways of writing them
among others yeah
Yep, Terrasque has -3 int and cannot speak or comprehend language
Well it can understand Aklo according to its statblock
Yeah but him dying essentially ends a divine cold war
He’d spark a bunch of conflict and massively change the dynamic of the universe tho
HE PERSONALLY wouldn’t be interesting
But the effects his death would have would be
And it would start a war, which is the whole thing
I don't think it's gonna be Iomedae I'm sorry
Who’s unsafe and missing in Starfinder? Rovavug uhhh… sort of is?
They’ve said that doesn’t matter
Which after Zon-Kuthon got marked safe I’m more likely to believe lol
Iomedae biting it would be deeply funny tho
Oh probably not but like
A bitch can hope
And it’d certainly be interesting
All the people who think it’s gonna be some crazy subversive thing should be happy with it, given that killing off the Paladin God would be p wild
I dunno, I feel like it'd be a little lame if like
Not in reference to the current 'is iomedae going to die talk' but
If a god like Iomedae dies in WOI and then just
Is still doing stuff in Starfinder
It'd just feel wack as hell imo
I’m sure the starfinder 2e lore will reflect WOI
but the starfinder 1e lore probably won’t
True, very true
I think is more the situation
Like if Iomadae dies then 2e will retcon that she was dead all along in this starfinder timeline
Rovagug's role can be easily filled by Rovagug spawn or Quipploth, which makes him pretty easy to kill
Paizo have said that Starfinder lore and Pathfinder lore are separate, so whatever happens in WoI will have no bearing on SF2e
I still think they’re unlikely to keep the god who dies here IN starfinder just cause
That’d be confusing
Yeah I genuinely just
Do Not Believe Them
Cuz that would just suck?
Like the whole deal is
'here's what the future of pathfinder looks like'
Did I hear we find out next week whose dying?
i can understand if they won't, tho, because having events and storylines in PF that shake up the pre-established lore that SF was founded upon and having to retcon and adjust things there sounds like a headache
It's not too hard for them to put it in sf2e but I could see it going either way
and iirc we will find out who's on the bingo next week, yeah
Get your bingo sheets out now
You can use this link to make the sheet, select the god you think is gonna die
Your guess will have an X over it
My safe vote is Rovagug, and my spicy vote is, I realize it would make people V V Sad, Shelyn
I wanna see if any of us guess right
I can’t get it to work right on mobile but I’m locking in Iomadae
i'm still guessing Abadar, but i think Rovagug seems very likely too
Rance: Sarenrae
Namoleon: Rovagug (Shelyn)
Emily: Iomadae
Gabriel: Abadar
Alaizia: Iomedae/Torag
Starduster: Sarenrare
Alaen: Iomedae (side bet, by Arazni)
Gkathellar: Rovagug
Halo: Sarenrae
I think they're liars and its Zon Kuthon anyway
SIKE, all the ones we said lived, DIED
on the bright side, we fixed prophecy!
I’m still guessing iomedae or Torag
Tho it would be funny is gorum
I'm becoming more partial to the theory of it being Iomedae
Potentially done by Arazni
Put me in for Rovagug
Rovugug is definitely my second choice
And the replacement will still be someone related to Aroden.
I found what Irori saw
lol
Only one that immediately comes to mind is Battlezoo's Indigo Isles
But that's also sorta setting agnostic and can be fit into Golarion
Yeah
I think necessarily a setting book comes with a lot more than just a setting
Also while obviously it isn't entirely true, a lot of PF2e stuff is made for Golarion specifically
while a 5e book can come with like, a couple new things
a pf2e setting needs new gods
which are more than just backstory and fluff
yeah, because you bascially need to redo a lot of stuff compred to like, 5e
new ancestries too
cause again, a lot of PF2e is interwoven with Golarion
I'd personally love to see like, a Eberon equivlant for Pf2e
I've honestly been thinking about putting a fantasy setting I've had on my mind and putting it to pf2e so making a cool setting guide might not be a bad idea
I'm sure you can transport PF2e stuff to Eberon but you know what I mean
I originally wanted to make a ttrpg out of it
what do you have in mind?
It was essentially a fantasy setting wrestling with it being on a planet that used to be home to a technologically advanced species that abruptly left, leaving behind hyper advanced ruins
Interesting
I ended up pushing it to the back of my mind when I realised all ttrpg ideas I had for it were either dnd or pathfinder adjacent
I've had a similar idea, a City Planet (whatever they're called; the exact term escapes me) that got "Reclaimed" by nature
Then a few days ago I had the epiphany I could just make it a pf2e setting
Ooo yeah thats awesome
I love that
In the initial ideas I had were that elves and dwarves were genetically engineered (from human dna) to serve the precursors, while humans themselves were neolithic primates smashing rocks together
I ended up ditching it because I wanted to have completely unique races but that's an idea that's coming back
I guess my issue is that when you pick up a setting guide, you need to be able to use all your old player options
But pathfinder 2e has... a lot of very golarion-specific, vibe contrasting options
You cant have a dark fantasy setting with a leshy or the pug dudes who's name escapes me
As an example
I think that it's very hard to present a setting guide that locks people out of previously established player options while having enough content to replace it
It'll just take a lot of effort, yeah
Work that most people don't want to put in when 5e guides sell better
That's coward talk.
Like, if there's stuff like the Dark Crystal out there, you can absolutely make things like Leshy or Poppets or Shoony into an appropriate concept.
honestly kinda disagree
cutting out options can help others shine
and whats the point of a setting if its not gonna shine
I agree
and like not every piece of game material has to be built for indefinite play
I played an au future golarion campaign where everything taller than a dwarf was gone
It's sort of also the point of rarity.
it was awesome
Particularly for a home setting, you can just ride harder on the higher rarity stuff.
and like putting the spotlight on all the small ancestries changed the vibe so much
Or go "nah, elves are uncomon, androids are common" or something.
I'm going to second the idea that you can just cut options that don't fit the setting
as a matter of fact, the whole rarity system specifies that those are the rarities in golarion
to me that means you should just change those according to what you need, including cutting what doesn't fit
i have a campaign in my head that would require everybody to basically be human
Here’s something I haven’t thought of, Paizo likes mythological references. Maybe we should look at mythological dead gods as potential inspirations for WotI
Pam is a good shoe in for Gozreh
My gm is kind of doing this tbh
Though that’s by setting our game 100 years after Golarion’s narrative present
Oh these look fun

interesting comment I saw
alternatively, Grandmother Spider
I also have a personal theory of who might be in War of Immortals
||The Ashen Man, a Hundun who works for Nyarlathotep and wants to cause the apocalypse. He's been built up over a long time in several places, and this seems like a good place to insert him||

Looks like they're setting a clear line on them being different games
You can mix and match
But it's not the design intent for you to do so by default
Which is good imo
I recall some folk here being worried that like, it's just gonna become a pf2e expansion or that pf2e classes will be base for sf2e etc
Yeah that's good
Reptaloids cut
Mechs coming later
Starship combat they don't wanna talk about yet
Implies to me some big changes
Otherwise they'd not be much to say
I did hear some stuff about that
I'm just going to guess that reptiloids were Reptilian Skin Snatcher Conspiracy Guys
I'm glad they're more firmly separate
They are
Which is why them being cut doesn't surprise me
Barathu are becoming a core ancestry
