Part of the reason people consider Fighting weak is leftover Gen1ness. It was dominated by Psychic, which had effectively no weaknesses, and its moves were dogshit. Have a 70 Base Power attack with negative priority.

Yeah I think the inconsistency of it it's weird for me but it does have some fun to it as well and I like a lot of the opportunities to build more toolbox decks
You get to build more interesting structures than in most other tcgs outside of like vintage magic
But it still feels like every match I just stick in a coin pull the lever and hope my deck doesn't break

One stupid example was having prized every single energy in my deck net decking a meta roaring Moon deck
And my thought is this deck needs to run at least eight basics or my luck is going to happen and at some point you will just have six energies prized and you will never be able to attack

I just really dislike Energies as a mechanic, and equally I hate Lands in magic for the same reason.
Any "this card type is crucial and if you don't see it you're fucked" mechanic is negative to me as a design philosophy.
Every game I've played that I've enjoyed where specific cards were resource, they came from a separate pool/deck
But Pokemon works well enough with how much draw and shuffle there is in the game
Such that as long as you're vaguely playable in your opening hand, odds of getting out of the situation are fairly high at least
