have a horror game rec: i quite like discover my body by yames. it's a short, highly-effective body horror game that draws on edutainment games a ways and explores the concepts of social isolation, losing one's humanity, and bodily transformation, and it's been living rent-free in my head for a good while. plus, it's free! severe body horror cw with an emphasis on fungi, decay, mutation, and neuropsychological effects, to say the least. here's a no-commentary playthrough if you want, though it does spoil the game

like, Sanitarium is never really actively scary
but it's still a very good horror game for how it envelops you in its ominous, unsettling atmosphere
the same is true for a lot of RPGmaker horror games

Silent hill 3 there was something dark to the themes that I just didn't notice when younger.
||The whole being stalked by creeps. I mean, Stanley Coleman was blatant, but I didn't catch how this was a theme for the whole game, alongside the magical pregnancy induced by the Order after tracking her down||

Hi all, coming in to say you should play You Will Die Here Tonight
I'mma' copy & paste what I wrote to some friends just now about it
At the base level, it's very much an homage to Resident Evil 1. Your squad of Super Cops goes into a mansion filled with zombies and solves puzzles and unlocks doors and tries to get to the bottom of whatever's going on there.
You play as each member of the squad in turn. Many of them have unique abilities, such as weapon crafting or creating extra medkits. When the character you play as dies, you pick a surviving character and continue on with all your key items and progress, but the last character(s) stay dead, and any unique abilities they had are lost forever.
...And there's, uh, more to it than that but I don't really want to spoil it because a big part of the fun was going "what the hell is going on in this game," "what am I even playing right now," etc.
The devs have a discord for the game, I joined to report a bug, and it's really tiny. Looks like the game hasn't been especially well received, and that sucks.
It's a cool game, and the devs seem cool too. Their server has pretty strict anti-harassment rules, including explicit mentions of:
There is zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or anything of the sort.
and the devs are really friendly and open, I've chatted with them a lot about like earlier versions of the game and the design intent behind decisions and changes they made.
I think the game is really unique and the people making it deserve the support. I hope this helps it find the audience it deserves!
