limpid zinc
#

personally im a lot more likely to sprint into position than pull out my revolver, which is for deleting pixel-high specials in the nosebleeds almost exclusively

#

so i spend the points on getting that sprint while keeping fury

heavy geyser
#

the wound breakpoint damage reduction talent in the top left feels nice for e.g. snipers, but it feels like gunners eat it up more frequently

limpid zinc
#

bleed for the emperor?

#

i dont take that but its because i run no wound curios or talents lol

#

something like this

heavy geyser
#

you could probably stand to lose the second cooldown reduction on the right and the until death branch and put two of those points into getting Enduring Faith and you wouldn't die anyways to proc the lifesave talent.

#

50% toughness damage reduction is so much survival

limpid zinc
#

the cdr node at the bottom can be used for some nutty stuff

#

ive spent my second charge and refunded both instantly

#

i basically use the charge as a form of toughness regen half the time so its already overlapping

#

also benediction is my fave in that node line anyway

heavy geyser
#

the original point i was trying to make is that the strengths of grenades are balanced by the strength of the talents leading up to them.

#

your build is your build, i was talking about the tree structure itself

#

top right has a really niche and tricky to use grenade but it has some of the most impactful talents on the whole tree

#

compared to stun grenades solving any crisis but having weaker talents leading up to accessing them

#

its a good skill tree but everything is in context

drowsy vine
#

i think the grenades more than make it for it

#

stuns are hella cracked

#

i'll take a small reduction in personal effectiveness in exchange for the potential to save someone from death or even save a run

heavy geyser
#

it is all equivalent exchange

drowsy vine
#

my personal opinion is it doesn't really work out that way

heavy geyser
#

you feel that the branches aren't balanced?

drowsy vine
#

essentially yes - the knives are funny but their ability to turn a situation around compared to the other two nades, especially stuns, is so drastically less, you don't particularly gain anything from them you don't get from a well specced firearm

#

you can get the lion's share of good right tree talents while still getting stuns anyway

heavy geyser
#

The knives are a completely different utility, you can burn a lot of talents also digging through to get the stuns but if you are deep enough to take the 50% tdr talent it might be a budgetary restraint to route through knives or fire to afford an overall stronger build that prevents or saves team wipes in other, frequent ways

#

I think they are very well balanced for what they offer.

drowsy vine
#

I mean I think the talents getting to stuns are plenty good enough on their own, and the talents directly under stuns leading to Benediction are significantly better than the ones in the right hand tree

#

(Compared to the ones leading to Loner)

heavy geyser
#

I think that's a fine build route but I also feel like the three nodes leading up to stuns are noticeably weaker as a price for buying into that utility, and I also feel like the Until Death branch of the Benediction is similarly expensive in terms of what you're giving up to buy its value. I'm not really sure where you disagree that these branches don't have equivalent cost/benefit balances

#

its not really fair pulling out Loner as the stand-out comparison when crit chant fury is maybe one of the strongest F key presses in the game

drowsy vine
#

I mean I didn't, I mentioned the talents leading up to Loner

heavy geyser
#

thy wrath be swift is very strong value on the right branch compared to putting two points into "occasionally don't die" as well, to give that branch credit

drowsy vine
#

I'm gonna bow out of this since our opinions clearly aren't gonna shift

heavy geyser

Oh, did you? Who were you?

marsh gyro

the famed Psyker Bertolli, running my Enhanced Psionics Brain Burst / Shriek / Flame Staff build - Letter was running the classic Eviscerator / Mk1 Autogun combo

It kinda sucked but it was manageable with a lower enemy spawns modifier

#

Glad I don't have to do that again

heavy geyser
#

Which mission did you do it on?

regal pendant
#

Can't recall the name, but it's the one where you gotta run through a surprisingly normalish looking city and call in extraction at the end

#

Only took 14 minutes

heavy geyser
#

oh nice, that's a fun one

regal pendant
#

And quick too, the only roadblock was lowering that bridge

#

And a Beast of Nurgle

#

...god

#

I feel bad for Beasts of Nurgle

#

Puppies in the bodies of gigantic disease-spewing monstrosities

#

Y'all got any advice for getting good curios?

heavy geyser
#

If you get a good version of one you want with one of the perks you want, its easy enough to swap the other two so its not too hard to get it just right

#

there is a browser extension that turns the fatshark account page into a display of what's currently in your character's store, so you can peek now and then and just turn the game on to grab something you like

drowsy vine
#

@cyan depot do y'all have 4 already?

cyan depot

sorry

Making a meme build, what melee should I use

regal pendant
#

Zamn, I'm looking fresh as fuck

#

Just need a good chainsword skin now

#

...those pants were surprisingly easy to get, just let a giant horde down me and started swingin, and bam, cool new pants

drowsy vine
#

@cyan depot good news, seem to have fixed my crashes - darkcache sadly doesn't work anymore and crashes on load in to the mourningstar

marsh gyro
#

That's tough, Darkcache was a solid play

Must have to do with how they changed the shader cacheing

marsh gyro
#

My new go kinda fast build is a Momentum Zealot with a 80% mobility Devil's Claw with a cleave and impact blessing; it doesn't hit as hard as a heavy sword so you need a carapace busting gun like slug shotgun and it's not as zoomies as a knife and it does about 80% of both and has a sick parry

drowsy tusk
#

Parrying demon host gaming

drowsy vine
dawn totem

I might get the leg braced pants for Psyker and maybe the leather jacket for Zealot.

#

Some of the weapon skins look nice too 😄

regal pendant
#

Finally got the drip I've been wanting for ages

#

Worth the money

#

Now I just gotta find some pants that go well with it

heavy geyser

Ohhh big spender

regal pendant
#

Got some enormous moneybags

#

...or did, anyway

#

I am now destitute in the name of drip

regal pendant
#

Starting up a melee Psyker build, any recommendations for weapons and skills?

drowsy tusk
#

Dueling sword or force sword are probably the go to options

regal pendant
#

Been using the force swords, I like em so far

drowsy tusk
#

Any of the abilities are good but scryers gaze most directly improves melee attacks

#

Dart is probably the best blitz cause you can chuck a few out and get back to chopping faster

regal pendant
#

Right, but it does leave me with nothing against bosses

#

Tried using it against a Beast, it did precisely Fuck and All

cyan depot
#

That's normal with psyker

#

Your job is usually to clear adds while the rest of the teamn hurts the monster

regal pendant
#

...though I AM at the level of "literally everything you own is the most bottom of the barrel shit tier kit possible", so that'd probably explain it

#

What force sword do y'all recommend?

#

I'm thinking Blaze since it has Vanguard heavies

cyan depot
#

For a melee centric psyker Ilsi imo

#

Not getting locked into the force sword stick ever means less accidental deaths

#

Blaze hits really hard

#

But you can't safely use the empowered attack much

marsh gyro
# regal pendant What force sword do y'all recommend?

Deimos Mk4 has a turbo deadly single target loop with light into heavy which can flatten crushers and maulers on their butts if you land the thrust heavy on the weak spot and goes good with Shred or Uncanny Strike

Obscurus has a great crowd control thing going on with sweeping vertical lights with good cleave and goes good with Slaughterer

You've identified that the Illisi is super good at crowds and if you get Bloodthirsty (only spawns level 4, 100% crit after special attack kill) then you win (great comboed with Exorcist)

#

I run a Shred/Blazing Spirit Deimos with a Blazing Spirit/Warp Nexus Trauma Staff and it works pretty decent as a Purgatus alternative

drowsy vine
#

It's the riskiest out of the ones people have listed but also, imo, the most rewarding if you can exploit boss openings

regal pendant
#

Oh yeah I love chainsword

#

I usually play Zealot, I know how much the chainswords kick ass

#

However, I DO like using the class-exclusive weapons

#

And the force sword has a certain flair that the chainsword just doesn't

heavy geyser
#

if I understand right the force swords have a ranged force push on block attack that makes pushing bursters easy

regal pendant
#

Do they?

cyan depot
#

Yeah they have a good push

regal pendant
#

I did notice that they had a cool looking shield

#

Didn't know it did anything special

cyan depot
#

Laspistol for psyker has a better one because ???

regal pendant
#

Oh, apparently they can get a perk that lets you block bullets too

#

That seems

#

Really fucking good

heavy geyser
#

That seems important, Psykers always feel squishy

#

Its also my understanding that Zealots have a unique slide property that evades bullets in some way that other classes don't (??)

regal pendant
#

That one perk that gives Toughness on venting helps, but even then they have a tiny base Toughness pool

regal pendant
cyan depot
cyan depot
regal pendant
#

I'm defo gunning for that

#

Gunners always give me trouble but that would just give them the world's biggest middle finger

#

God it'd be cool if that was an all-melee perk

#

Just pull a Ronin and swordblock everything

regal pendant
#

YES I GOT DEFLECTOR

#

AHAHAHAHAHAHA FIRST FUCKING TRY

#

IT'S ONLY LEVEL 1 BUT I'LL TAKE IT

#

Oh this one's being dismantled for this blessing

drowsy vine
#

<@&1042950387478560878> anyone down to play in about an hour?

#

Now that the weapon customisation mod fixed scopes I feel like taking them for a spin

marsh gyro
#

I'm down to get that plasteel then for a bit

drowsy vine
#

Anyone else?

#

Admittedly if we can't get 3+ I'm inclined to start ISAT instead haha - no shade to you Clem, just prefer more people

marsh gyro
#

No worries, I was revisiting old conversation battles from Deus Ex Human Revolution, I'll be all right

regal pendant
#

Think I'm getting the hang of this melee psyker nonsense

#

Unsure if my build is the best for it, but I'm at least not immediately dying in Malice

heavy geyser
#

I tried putting a laspistol on my crit zealot build in the meat grinder last night and I think there might be some juice here

#

I have a 379 accatran but now I want to find a good kantrael laspistol to see which one actually feels better. I suspect all the crits and a dumdum blessing might favor the speed and capacity of the accatran but its harf to go wrong with bigger damage

marsh gyro
#

Infernus ticks benefit from and tick up Dumdum stacks so laspistol keeps winning

heavy geyser
#

I rolled a lv4 toughness heal on crit kill blessing, I got some farming to do but that might make a good holdover until I can get Infernus

#

I liked the burn on Kantrael shotgun shells

marsh gyro
#

Heal on crit/speedloader is my practical combo because dumdum/infernus is the greedy combo

heavy geyser
#

two of the pinch points I am finding on the shotgun are a: being a bit inefficient at range and b: competing a little bit with the eviscerator, which turns crowds into chants

marsh gyro
#

Yeah I run double DOT shotgun with a heavy sword or knife or thunder hammer

#

Heavy sword keeps winning in mutant wave maelstroms knockin' em down

heavy geyser
#

dumdum laspistol can gutshot maulers really cleanly

#

its fun to make a hallway full of fodder disappear with the double dotgun but that doesn't feed the chants so we're trying something else

regal pendant
#

Holy smokes, it's Saltzpyre

#

...side note, I'm like 90% sure Maulers are just Chaos Knights but with a different suit of armor, so why the fuck do they feel harder than before?

heavy geyser
#

their secret is their head is carapace but their body is flak!

#

saw them in half like a tree, not like a loaf of bread

mortal crystal
#

Yeah, Maulers aren't Chaos Knights they're, well, Maulers.

#

The dudes with unarmored torsos and armored heads.

#

Crushers are Chaos Knights

tough compass
#

The vermintide version makes the armor situation more obvious imo

#

Also that man has been blessed with levitation by the chaos gods

heavy geyser
#

crushers and maulers both give me anxiety

mortal crystal
#

What do you play?

heavy geyser
#

Zealot! I can dodge their overheads but I always think about "what if I don't?"

#

I even have enough impact to stagger interrupt the wind ups, sometimes

cloud hazel

crusher hitboxes with oceania ping makes me the big sad

#

It's fucking incredible how ONE talent can make a build viable and fun

#

One With The Warp has just immediately made my melee psyker build extremely fucking good

#

It's no Unchained, but damn is it ever tanky as shit for a psyker

marsh gyro
regal pendant
#

For real lmao

#

Had to sacrifice that free 5% crit chance bost, but tbh the boost to damage against Elites seems more useful

#

How does One With The Warp stack?

#

I know Warp Rider is 2% per 20 peril

marsh gyro
#

All the individual sources of toughness damage reduction are multiplicative so as to avoid the dreaded 100% reduction breakpoint

regal pendant
#

Oh, no, I mean like

#

How much Peril do I need for the full 33% toughness DR?

marsh gyro
#

Should be 10% at 0 Peril and 33% at 100% peril and so that'd be about 5.5% damage reduction per 20 peril yeah

regal pendant
#

Oh shit, so it's just a free 10% DR even without any peril at all?

#

That's pretty slick

marsh gyro
#

Yeah it's a great node

#

That for 33%, Scrier's Gaze for 20%, and a spare 5% node on the tree will get you to effective 49% toughness damage reduction pretty good; anything further is a pretty big sacrifice on nodes

regal pendant
#

Eh, I'd use Scrier's Gaze, but it just feels

#

Kinda boring

#

I'd rather pop a bubble shield, I do have Deflector 3 now but my teammates might not and being able to take cover from gunners and snipers and the like on a whim is nice

cloud hazel
#

nobody will ever complain about bubble on high haz

regal pendant

I do use that one stave that shoots lightning, so

marsh gyro
#

Full move speed Psyonic The Hedgehog knife psyker is worth trying at least once

regal pendant
#

Close enough I guess?

cloud hazel
#

that one's bad for CC nowadays but it's high HVT damage

#

giving crushers and bulwarks the bad tickles

#

they moved its original crowd stagger functionality over to the surge slot instead so it's now a single target monster instead

drowsy vine
#

Man with the Scavenger nerf the Heavy Autogun feels better than ever on Vet

#

Having a deep ammo pool matters a lot more now

#

Such a swiss army knife of a gun

cloud hazel
#

the scavenger nerf is so brutal on high haz

drowsy vine
#

Real

#

I do like how it's made some weapons more viable by making More Ammo More Better but at this point some stuff needs a balance pass

#

Ol' Bolty is probably in the dumpster now

cloud hazel
#

the bolter feels sooooo aaaaaaasssssss

#

you get to dump a couple guys early on and you're all smiles

#

and then you realise you're only a quarter through the mission and you're already out

Yeaaaaaah

cloud hazel

does the plasma really need even more stuff going for it over the bolter

drowsy vine
#

no

lusty kelp
cloud hazel
#

I agree some change to the ammo regen was probably necessary but that's partly also because the other passives kinda booty

drowsy vine
marsh gyro
#

One of these days I'll try a 4 Veteran squad where everyone has the move speed aura and knives and see how we can speed run running in circles while static defense objective bars build up

drowsy vine
#

At this point there might? Be something if you run the +5% Damage aura plus Focus Target, Focused Fire and Redirect Fire

cyan depot
#

I have been playing so much psyker I didn’t notice the nerf haha

drowsy vine
#

Because at that point +17% damage to your team is very much Getting Somewhere

#

and that stacks with Focus Target on big enemies

marsh gyro
#

Yeah I run that combo on my mid tree vet with Helbore/Vraks Mk7 headhunter action and it's a great team buffer

cloud hazel
#

I guess Helbore might have some kind of function since they're generally more ammo efficient + Shock Trooper is good enough on its own

marsh gyro
drowsy vine
#

Oh Helbores are wild good I think

#

I know @mortal crystal runs the Mk1 Helbore and they go sicko mode with it

cloud hazel
#

I built bolter for max ergo

mortal crystal
#

The Mk1 is a grand old time, yeah. Sadly, the vast majority of my time on it was with the old skill system so I don't have much advice for the current version

marsh gyro
#

New Mk1 still rules because it can one shot Reapers on crit without stance

mortal crystal
#

Big thing is getting Onslaught and finding a good rhythm.

cloud hazel
#

I've had a lot of trouble trying to use it without Stance just because it's so hard to acquire targets with how bad the scope is

mortal crystal
#

The sights are a major learning curve, this is true

#

Nothing to say there other than just use it long enough

regal pendant
#

...ugh

#

Why has every Heresy game I've tried playing my melee Psyker in just immediately gone tits up

#

It's not even a skill issue on my part, it's always "Oh, hey, here's a fuckshit load of Specials and a boss, also your teammates have all gone down, good luck"

mortal crystal
#

Don't play Heresy

#

Seriously

#

Play Damnation

#

The quality of your team goes WAY up

lusty kelp
#

Heresy is easily the hardest difficulty IME

#

Damnation you have a hope of being carried

regal pendant
#

It's weird because I've NEVER had this issue with my Zealot

lusty kelp
#

Heresy you have a minor hope of not being dragged down

regal pendant

But now all of a sudden shit just immediately goes tits up the first chance it gets

#

At this point I'm not even mad

#

Just

#

Baffled

#

Like, what god did I piss off to earn such a streak of horrid luck???

#

Good grief

drowsy vine
#

To be fair, Zealot's clutch potential is also a lot easier to achieve than Psyker's

#

And honestly it does have more

#

Zealot is afforded a lot of leeway with stuff like sprint DR as opposed to Psyker's sprint damage vuln

mortal crystal
#

A lot Psyker's clutch potential needs teammates to see it happening and then exploit it/facilitate it.

drowsy vine
cyan depot

regal pendant

You could always hear them coming though

#

Yeah, true

#

I'm just

#

Frustrated

#

For reasons I'm sure are somewhat obvious

marsh gyro
#

Dealing with 8 crushers or 12 maulers is just a thing the director throws out sometimes

regal pendant

Apparently

cloud hazel

yeah at higher haz you just have to handle it

Near the beginning of Darktide crushers were rarer but also it was pretty easy

regal pendant
#

Kinda wish we got, like, proper Big Huge Guns in Darktide

#

I know there's a bolter but I mean, like

#

Anti-materiel guns, RPGs, stuff like that

#

...though that would kinda screw up balance since ammo's more plentiful than it was in Vermintide

#

Still

regal pendant
spiral badger
#

Crushers are much easier to kill than chaos knights

#

On higher diffs you pretty much want to have an option for cracking armor on deck

regal pendant
#

What does each tier of Deflector block, in terms of bullets?

#

Or do they all block bullets equally?

split mantleBOT
#

doesn't it get more efficient?

regal pendant
#

It does, but I did notice tier 2 seemed more effective at blocking gunner/shotgunner shots than tier 1

#

Though that might be my imagination

cyan depot
#

It just makes the cost lower

regal pendant
#

Guess it was my imagination then

#

Related, does Kinetic Deflection benefit from block efficiency?

cyan depot
#

Afaik yes

regal pendant
#

Oh, good, I was worried I was wasting a perfectly good weapon perk

cyan depot
#

It also benefits from that “take peril not stamina loss” talent

regal pendant
#

Kinetic Deflection IS the "take peril not stamina loss" talent you goober lmao

cyan depot
#

Oh whoops I thought you meant deflector haha

#

But yeah all that talent does is convert the stamina loss to peril in some ratio

regal pendant
#

That's on me, I should've been more clear

cyan depot
#

There’s a lot of similar names in Darktide to which doesn’t help

regal pendant
#

God, yeah

tough compass
#

The blessing without the talent is pretty sad imo

regal pendant
#

Yeah, I noticed that gunshots were draining stamina

#

A Lot

#

Now it's actually useful

cyan depot
#

It’s good in a pinch but yeah it doesn’t last long

regal pendant
#

With Kinetic Deflection, the Deflector weapon blessing is

I can just give gunners the middle finger as I zigzag towards them

Further Helbore testing has revealed the following:

  1. Helbore Mk1 and Mk2 bayonets do like 20% more damage if you hold up the stab instead of spamming it
  2. Bizarrely enough the 10% rending node on Vet boosts Unyielding damage and Maniac damage contrary to expectations (thought it'd only work vs Flak/Carapace)
  3. Helbore Mk3 is about 50% more Helbore per shot than Mk1/2 and has a 20% weaker bayonet with better cleave by about double
  4. The Helbore does such a ridiculous crit weak spot multiplier that crit damage actually has a tangible effect (crit damage and weak spot damage only boost the bonus damage amount to crit/weak spot, not the base damage)
  5. Not only do Helbore charged shots have the same cleave as a Bolter shot they do about double the damage (3 cleave, which is 3 groaners or 2 poxwalkers/scab/dreg mooks)

Mk. IV really encourages that old Vermintide heavy attack-centric playstyle, which I quite enjoy

marsh gyro
#

Thrust blessing works real good on the Mk4 normal heavies and gets weird on the revved special heavies and sometimes only does 2 stacks and not 3

regal pendant
#

Trying to use shotguns more, can y'all give me any advice?

#

Idk why but they always feel just

#

Weirdly unsatisfying

heavy geyser
#

As a Zealot I'm a big fan of the Kantrael, it is great for blowing through crowds to hit specials and it has enough impact that it can stop them doing their thing

#

The special shells really help sell each into a niche

#

Kantrael has an incendiary shell that does good crowd control vs hordes. Lawbringer has a horizontal shot spread shell and the Agripiina loads a slug, iirc

#

I think the key thing is their ability to control mixed crowds

marsh gyro
regal pendant
#

Right

#

They also feel just... weirdly weak, somehow

#

Compared to my revolver

marsh gyro
#

That's because the revolver rules

regal pendant
#

On paper, they have a good leg up of 100 damage over the Stub, but in practice, it feels kinda like I'm just plinking at enemies

marsh gyro
#

Shotguns also rule but it's a more personalized fiefdom

regal pendant
#

...actually, it could be I'm viewing and using them incorrectly

#

Viewing them as Big Boy Busters in the same vein as the revolvers

heavy geyser
#

You can load/fire a shotgun in a panic easier than a revolver

drowsy vine
#

Revolvers have perfect accuracy, no falloff, better armour pen values and intense headshot multipliers

marsh gyro
#

So base damage is a thing, then armor penetration is a thing, then finesse scaling on weak spot and crit is a thing, and revolvers have higher finesse and penetration values in exchange for way less ammo

cloud hazel
#

revolvers are baby bolters

drowsy vine
#

You're comparing a sniper rifle to...well, a shotgun, basically

cloud hazel
#

they're high-value AT annihilators

heavy geyser
#

the revolver always has the brass dump part of reload where shotguns can load and fire, and each time they load one shell and send it it counts for reapplying "when ranged is empty" talents

marsh gyro
#

Shotguns have the dual fire modes for versatility

cloud hazel
#

the shotguns are generally intended for working unarmored targets

regal pendant
#

And CC

#

I'm definitely using them wrong

cloud hazel
#

that too with the duckshot rounds

marsh gyro
#

Important question: are you using shotguns/revolvers on Zealot or Veteran

regal pendant
#

Zealot

#

Haven't unlocked them on Veteran

#

...or literally anything good besides Stub and the Katachan sword

#

God I hate low level in this game, it feels so awful

heavy geyser
#

Slam firing reloads from empty keeps giving you Emperor's Bullet

regal pendant
#

Regardless

marsh gyro
#

Veteran uses them extremely differently as a mid range DMR or as a melee supplement while Zealot is all about that close range 25% ranged damage node

heavy geyser
#

If you want a nice magic formula, get a Kantrael and put Flechette on there

marsh gyro
#

Zealot charge can bust armor good in a pinch

heavy geyser
#

i'll show you what Zealot Kantrael shotgun can do

regal pendant
#

Guessing they're meant to be practically melee range?

heavy geyser
#

no no no

#

you can work midrange with them

#

Here is what incendiary shells with bleed blessings and a crit build can do to a crowd

marsh gyro
#

Zealot's only ranged damage buffs are the 25% close range damage node at middle top and momentum stacks from bottom right which is why they're closer (15m and under) on Zealot

regal pendant
#

Video won't play for me

heavy geyser
#

All of the pellets individually critting count towards activating Fury

regal pendant
#

Ope wait there it goes

#

Jesus that's scary

marsh gyro
#

Veteran can stack left side finesse damage and long range damage to make very potent midrange groups

#

Indirect Zealot ranged buff is crit build because crits rule

heavy geyser
#

When its not using the incendiary shell this shotgun can punch through hordes to stop Trappers from netting teammates and it can knock Ragers on their ass

regal pendant
#

...also I yearn for that shotgun skin

#

That looks so fucking good

heavy geyser
#

It's good special management through a horde

heavy geyser
#

Oh yeah its called Deck Hand Shotgun, I copped it a while ago thinking, one day I might be a shotgun liker, and I'm gonna wish I had this skin

#

and lo and behold, foresight

regal pendant
#

Man

heavy geyser
#

I tweaked a bolter-centric zealot build to run the Kantrael

#

and its so nice

regal pendant
#

I wish I had been playing this game sooner

#

Now I gotta wait around for the good cosmetics to show up again

#

I'll give Kantrael another shot, you've sold me on it

heavy geyser
#

It's my favorite of the three

#

But that's sort of like, the Use Case for its specialty shell

#

standard shells punch very hard and don't get stopped on fodder enemies

marsh gyro
#

Kantrael's primary fire is real nice because it can one shot gunners on a good weak spot hit and two shot ragers

heavy geyser
#

so you can do crowd management from anywhere

#

I have felt like the blurn damage sort of competes with my eviscerator, which turns a crowd into Chants rather than sawdust, but it's a really reliable gun

#

Great against big guys too

#

like beasts and plague ogryn

marsh gyro
#

The blurn principle also works great as gunlugger Ogryn

heavy geyser
#

Also in that video, pay attention to this icon

#

one shot preps a ~50% crit rate increase thanks to blessings, and then the second shot with the crit boost makes this number Go Up Very Quickly

regal pendant
#

Do y'all know how dodging works exactly

#

Getting real fucking tired of trying to dodge only to budge an inch for Reasons

brave kestrel
#

Each weapon has a separate dodge distance modifier and also a dodge count. The dodge count is how many dodges you can use before their effectiveness decreases immensely.

Dodge distance is generally better with lighter weapons and always better with melee over ranged

marsh gyro
#

Weapons have dodge limits you can view when inspecting the weapon and usually you need at least 50% mobility to hit full dodge allowance

cloud hazel
#

once dodge count is used up it doesn't restore til a few seconds have passed

brave kestrel
#

Mobility and Defence stats both affect dodge counts iirc

#

Some ranged weapons (revolver, laspistol) have decent dodges too

It feels like Darktide relies on specials and elites too much

heavy geyser
#

whenever I hear the trapper sound, no matter what I'm doing, I always dodge on reflex

regal pendant
#

I mean, I know we have guns and shit to help deal with them, but like

#

The amount of gunners alone feels egregious sometimes

heavy geyser
#

popping chant and running into the gunner hordes is a lot of fun

#

"gunners Off"

cloud hazel
#

i don't know what else they would do given naked hordes are non-factors

#

the servers would probably flop over and die to one million poxwalkers in a single wave before a single zealot would

regal pendant
#

True

#

It's probably me being a Vermintide boomer and grumbling about back in MY day, specials were really special, they weren't spammed at you, you got your ratlings and your packmasters and your assassins sure but they were a big occasion, you newfangled special waves grumble grumble grumble

heavy geyser
#

more powerful enemies allow for more powerful player characters

regal pendant
#

Also true

#

...though they do feel more frail than Vermintide's somehow

#

Then again that's probably me playing wrong

cloud hazel
#

i mean specials being more fragile seems like you playing more right if anything

#

lmao

regal pendant
#

No the player characters lmao

heavy geyser
#

play with me sometime I will make you immortal

regal pendant
#

Like, it feels like I get hit with one bullet while my Toughness is down, whoop, quarter of your health gone

cloud hazel
#

oh

regal pendant
#

...which has only really been an issue on my Veteran, still getting used to this melee/guns build

cloud hazel
#

yeah Veteran is made of tissue paper

regal pendant
#

I'm goddamn near invincible with Psyker thanks to all the Toughness DR I can get, and Zealot

#

Well

cloud hazel
#

it's primarily a class thing, Zealot is extremely chonky

regal pendant
#

Is Zealot

#

...god it's fucking stupid how tanky my melee psyker is, I love it

#

I genuinely thought I'd be struggling to make this work above malice but no, I'm tearing shit apart and it's my new favorite build

heavy geyser
#

the build I like to run has a lot of teammate support talents

#

the other half of it is a Crit Machine that generates +100 Toughness overheal and the 30% TDR every ~12 seconds with access to a large horde

#

it makes the team very hard to kill

cloud hazel
#

Veteran needs to put a lot of points into saving itself with stuff like Iron Will but Shout alone makes your team borderline unkillable

#

Shout also stacks with Chorus iirc so

#

having 200 bonus regenerating overshield is pretttttyyyyy good

heavy geyser
#

it rules, you can't die

soft summit
#

I'm too aggressive to play a Veteran

heavy geyser
#

the best way to handle a clutch recovery situation is to simply never let it happen

soft summit
#

I like killing people with hammers

drowsy vine
#

Veteran's biggest weakness is something the game never tells you

spiral badger
#

shitty stamina regen

cloud hazel
#

the combo of shout and chorus also gives you massive uptime on 'oops we made a fuck up but I pressed F'

#

'so we win'

drowsy vine
#

Which is +50% damage vuln while sprinting

spiral badger
#

oh yeah i forgot about all that

#

the hidden damage modifiers

regal pendant
drowsy vine
#

Never sprint in combat as vet or you explode

spiral badger
#

all the characters have hidden damage mods based on state

regal pendant
#

That is

#

Stupid

cloud hazel
#

yep

spiral badger
#

zealot takes less damage when sprinting and dodging

#

veteran takes more

drowsy vine
#

Psyker also takes more but it's a less drastic modifier

spiral badger
#

ogryn and pskyer I don't remember exactly but it's more of a mixed bag

cyan depot
#

Psyker is iirc about the same as veteran

#

Or at least functionally similar since you’re somewhat squishier

regal pendant
#

Wait but if Vet is so frail why does it have so many melee boosting talents

heavy geyser
#

even on vet your melee is your primary

regal pendant
#

Including an entire capstone centered around switching between melee and ranged

cloud hazel
#

you can just not get hit

#

that capstone is also in the tree with invis

regal pendant
#

...good point

#

sorry

cloud hazel
#

but I think even just at a baseline veteran has lower health but somewhat higher toughness than a zelly or psyker

#

maybe about equal of both with psyker

#

ogryn isn't worth comparing for obvious reasons

cyan depot
#

Means you’re more “stuck” in combat

drowsy vine
#

Yeah, vet can just dodge an it's fine

cyan depot
#

While zelly can just be like “fuck this” and sprint away from some people

heavy geyser
#

Zealot also only has like, three ranged-centric talents

cloud hazel
#

in my onion my play on most classes improved when I stopped sprinting mid-combat anyway

#

tbh

#

blocking and pushing is really good

heavy geyser
#

so sprinting is a lot more important to a zealot than a gun liker

cyan depot
#

Yeah I play mostly psyker so I just don’t sprint much in a fight

drowsy vine
#

The basic idea is that Zealot can pick and choose their fights better

#

Where Veteran picks their fights by shooting everything in the head

cyan depot
#

Virtually all of my unexpected deaths come from ignoring that

cloud hazel
#

the fail-block animation is usually followed by me getting chunked for one trillion hp

#

so I'm a bit more wary about what I spend my stam on these days

marsh gyro
#

The fun part about melee veteran is they can't shoot you if you sprint at them at mach 1 with a catachan knife at 80% mobility because they're swapping to melee (||except gunner gunners, they'll just shoot you||)

brave kestrel
#

I need to be more careful with stamina usage tbh

#

and/or run the 'dodging ranged fire gives back stamina' talent more

spiral badger
#

also ultimately you have to get used to fihgting in melee with all classes

#

nobody gets to just shoot forever

regal pendant
#

Man

spiral badger
#

fundamentally everyone has to be capable of fighting off things with melee

regal pendant
#

I ought to run knife sometime

marsh gyro
regal pendant
#

It seems fun

spiral badger
#

because no matter how you play at some point you will get stuck in melee with Stuff

#

and not understanding how to manage that will kill you

brave kestrel
#

it is

I've been not using it bc I've been getting penances for the other two capstones

but I need to use it more

marsh gyro
regal pendant
#

What's the absolute fastest you can get in this game anyway?

#

Like, the most breakneck speed possible?

#

Cause I'm kinda tempted to run a sprint speed build just because I think it would be funny

marsh gyro
#

It's speed on crit Disrupt Destiny Scrier's Gaze Psyker with a knife by far for burst speed, I call it Psyonic the Hedgehog

regal pendant
#

Lmao

spiral badger
#

consistent speed you want momentum zealot with knife

#

you're fast as fuck

cloud hazel
#

ADMIN HE DOING IT SIDEWAYS

marsh gyro
#

Huh - today I learned, dueling swords have same run speed as the knife

cloud hazel
#

duelling swords also have the very funny scream run trikc

#

where you just run around charging heavy attack and sprinting to boost your speed

spiral badger
#

knives do that too

#

but thhe knife lunge is significantly longer

#

so it's faster overall

cloud hazel
#

yeah fair

marsh gyro
#

Yeah the Mk4 dueling sword is all forward thrusts on heavy for peak mutant stabbing

cloud hazel
#

otoh sword itself is obviously longer

spiral badger
#

sword is better than knife onn psyker as a whole

cloud hazel
#

i like knife just fine personally but i do like psyker getting their own elaborate fancy shchmancy swashbuckler thing

#

so i use it just for that

spiral badger
#

there's an implication at least some of the psykers are former nobility

#

so they know how to use the stupid dueling weapons

marsh gyro
#

Dueling Sword gets Shred and more crits always rule

spiral badger
#

loner psyker in particular has a lot of lines that imply that they used to be fairly high up in class prior to the manifestation of their powers

cloud hazel
#

kim katsuragi psyker also just seems like he would be trained in stupid duelling swords because that's just what you learn at cop school

spiral badger
#

yeah

#

and seer psyker, god only knows

regal pendant
#

That makes me wonder how Dreamer psyker knows

#

Did the Emperor just beam the knowledge into their head

spiral badger
#

but presumably they must have been someone fairly important

#

or someone would have murdered them long before now

cloud hazel
#

they're the only person who exists so every weapon they can see can be operated

#

instruction via solipsism

regal pendant
#

They can't die, you can't kill someone that's dreaming you

cloud hazel
#

yeah they're the protagonist of reality

regal pendant
#

...wait but what about other Dreamer psykers

#

Manifestations of their own psyche?

cloud hazel
#

liars

regal pendant
#

Or is this like an MMO dream

#

They go to sleep and spend the night playing Darktide

regal pendant
#

Or... something, anyway

#

It's gotta be more than just a delusion, Dreamer psykers talk about Necrontyr sometimes

#

Which absolutely nobody but a select few would know about

brave kestrel
#

100% the emperor is talking to some of the psyker voices

no way their beloved is anything else

heavy geyser
#

putting rev it up on a chainaxe

#

is very fun for having the zoomies

brave kestrel
#

he's probably doing it for the laughs

heavy geyser
#

cuz at the end of your zoomies you can open up a can of soup

#

I have been tinkering with a stealth momentum rev it up chainaxe zealot

#

and its very funny to just annihilate a crusher

regal pendant
heavy geyser
#

I don't like not healing my team though, it feels better to know someone is healing so its hard not to bring the usual build

cloud hazel
#

the corruption cleanse passive?

heavy geyser
#

the constant chants

#

crit chant gives you a Lot of overheal

cloud hazel
#

ah

#

yeah I'm basically duct-taped to the crutch of shout

heavy geyser
#

I only run the corruption passive because its how the things I want route

cloud hazel
#

both for protecting myself but also keeping my team constantly topped-off with that +100

heavy geyser
#

but with the new gas grenade guys it has a lot more utiltiy

cloud hazel
#

oh that's extremely true actually

#

you take a lot more chip corruption than you used to

heavy geyser
#

before it was like, healing dogs and grimoires

#

and you can dodge dogs easy

#

the left side aura is a lot better but all the chants with the +30% TDR make up for that

#

I'll show my whole build so you can see what I mean

cloud hazel
#

it was very funny watching the grimoire corruption bounce up and down infinitely

heavy geyser
#

I value the few ranged traits so I don't have the budget to swing sideways a lot

#

so I just take the corruption aura for efficiency

#

but green gas makes it a lot more useful

#

I want to pick up Thy Wrath Be Swift but I don't know what I'd give up to take it

brave kestrel
#

I love vet shout

but I have a soft spot for kill stance based on how funny it used to be (fire a bolter down a hallway, have your ult back instantly)

cloud hazel
#

I really don't get what I'd run kill stance for nowadays

#

invis rez and shout's... everything are just so strong I don't even know where I'd say 'yes, this gun wants kill stance'

regal pendant
#

That one fan the hammer revolver

brave kestrel
#

yeah, it feels not really necessary

#

its fun though

cloud hazel
#

that one I also run shout on
