god i love the difference of going through the destroy helicopters mission in NG vs NG+

you've got most if not all of your preferred parts and build, you've gained a load of experience going through the whole game, and you know how to not get steamtrained by the tetrapod

Yeah lol the first time the tetrapod appears, it's a bit of an oh shit and it's probably the most dangerous thing you've seen up to that point besides the PCA chopper

on NG+ you're very likely to be able to take it out in one barrage

and the loader build isn't too good at taking it on either if you haven't switched to a better weapon by that point

NG run it's very much a pick your battles moment especially if you're new to how the game (and series) works
NG+ i shredded that thing with dual vientos and a laser dagger and it was comical in comparison because she didn't even get a laser blade hit off to even the odds

the game also does go out of its way to say
"you don't need to fight it" and there's like 3 paths around it to the helicopters as well so it's not like a
"wow too bad you didn't break that tetrapod while you were here" moment

the most you miss out on is some money and getting the first log, but you can always replay and grab it later or pick it up on NG+
you learn about em in the next mission anyways since the tester AC has one

speaking of i'm about to feel real bad for that kid in about ten seconds
he has no idea what's about to dropkick him at mach fuck

sulla is when the game stops pulling punches especially given he's meant to chew up some of your resources before BALTEUS

Ziyi holds the tragic distinction of maybe being the easiest AC fight in the game. I think even Tester has managed to put a scratch on me before, I don't think I've ever taken a hit from Ziyi

and it's the pulse buckler meant for popping on and off right before being hit as well, so it's not meant to be sustained the way she uses it

i think that something really interesting about the armored core series is the armored cores themselves and what they thematically represent

given everything else in the games, you might initially think that they are representative of the dehumanization and removal of free will that pilots face, essentially being their cage. but, the thing is, it really seems like they're the opposite.

the armored core is the one part of their life a pilot controls. it is designed by them, for them, as an extension of themselves. they get to choose every part, every color, every decal. it is theirs. and when they're piloting it, they have control, they have freedom. this is probably most felt in 4th and 5th gen where the soundtracks constantly convey a sense of this freedom, but it is somewhat felt throughout the series.

this is also why it's an extremely common plot thread that the corporations are trying to essentially phase out armored cores in favor of mass produced machines. they don't like this one remaining bit of freedom mercenaries have and want to remove it and the power that comes with it, replaced with nondescript, impersonal machines.

He said the players will play as an independent mercenary company

Can all of you give me some lore and stuff from the older games please

So each iteration is kind of its own entire bag

But the common themes that might be useful are that pilots often sacrifice part of their physical humanity for better piloting ability (whether it's the coral augmentation surgery in 6 or programs like HUMAN+ or OP-INTENSIFY), corporations play a major role normally held by national governments (think cyberpunk but Mecha and mercenaries), and that independent mercenaries trend to have a degree of legend status on the battlefield, like more fantastical versions of knights or ronin with custom machines and paint jobs that display their power over run of the mill mecha called Muscle Tracers

So a lot depends on your GM here, either narrowing down a timeline from one of the AC timelines or if they're doing their own

Also as a general genre savvy thing: Powerful people aren't your friends, pretty much everyone will at least initially view you as disposable at best, and while you're entirely allowed to have morals and standards, the people offering you jobs are probably not going to care about respecting them

Yeah so the only things I can think of if it's the AC6 timeline:

• There used to be a resource called Coral that most of modern tech relied on because it transferred both energy and information extremely well. It only came from one planet: Rubicon 3. That planet did a mysterious big explosion called the Fires of Rubicon and wiped out multiple solar systems, so now there isn't a steady supply of the stuff anymore.
• Sometimes mercs get turned into cyborg popsicles and sold to people to be used as pilots to pay for their debts.
• There's some kind of interstellar states/authorities other than the corporations, but we know basically nothing about them canonically except Rubicon's PCA (Planetary Closure Administration).
• Very powerful planet-scale AI is a thing.
• Megastructures are very in fashion, the one planet we see is surrounded by and covered in them.

the Etsujins, Ludlows, Ducketts, and Coliquetts are the current light weapon meta in AC6 i believe. throw in a pulse blade or laser dagger for finisher damage

for back weapons, the three-cell plasma missiles are a popular choice; people also like the regular and pincer missile launchers for poking

i unfortunately don't have a lot of specific knowledge about parts from previous games

I've always been fond of the light smgs in oldgen

they often have poor ammo cap but very good DPS

which makes them pretty solid for arena fights where you don't have to pay for ammo and you only have to destroy one AC

Both CLUTCH and TOYBOX, which are RaD uniques, use this paint scheme with pale yellow and dark gray. STRIDER looks like any paintjob it had was blown off and CLEANER is more of a brick red with black.

MAD STOMP also has a pretty uniform scheme here, with yellow on top, black "pants" and orange weapon systems, which feels very industrial.

And while "Honest" Brute's machine is a bit off-tone you can see it looks like it at least used to follow the same design scheme

Bad Cook may be similar, depending on what its fire rate is

That being said, iirc recoil control also affects how quickly recoil resets after being built up

So it might still be worth having if your build is going to be firing other weapons in short intervals after a Bad Cook stream

I haven't really found a good way to math out recoil, I've generally had to load into testing and try out different configurations to see how they feel to me

like the laser dagger it has the advantage of near-instant cooldown, so you don't have to do the melee swap trick if you don't want to
