A huge part of the culture of the IGF community is sharing stories of our games and characters. GMs take inspiration from each other quite often borrowing ideas, techniques, and even PCs to use as NPC cameos. Is it okay for us to discuss such things in this place, or should conversations like that also stay in the Lancer General MUSE thread? Just trying to find the line for "on topic" so we can stay behind it.

That’s more or less it, we generally trust people to be able to talk about games and the modules at hand and bring up to mods when there is an issue, meaning we don’t have to keep a close eye on a channel, but when it’s basically a general chat with a lot more discussion and community building happening it means we have to actively monitor stuff way more as mods

(general igf spoilers) ||my interpretation of astral stigmata is that it's the character becoming aware that they're being controlled by their player. they would become aware of the term "astral stigmata" as soon as it makes sense for the character to be aware enough to realize such a clock is even a thing that can be applied to them.||

||i plan to run my astral stigmata in my game as literal stigmata, wounds in their hands and feet. it's where the marionette strings attach to them. once the clock fills up enough, they can see the actual strings. if they follow the strings up, and gaze up into the night sky long enough, they'll swear they can see faces looking down at them. sometimes when they catch their reflection against the screen, they'll see a face that isn't theirs, but it's a face they know very well||

A swimming pool is a lot of resources

And the only open bodies of water anybody is likely to interact with are on Asphodel - where you'll be wearing a hardsuit

It's not impossible to learn to swim - there's a non-canon-but-popular water park on the icebreaker called The Beash, and furnace City could quite easily have a swimming pool

For those who have finished Act I, how many hours/sessions did it take you? Very interested in running this and I'm just looking to get an idea about its length

I'm half way through, it's looking to be approximately 1 session per fight, 1 session per downtime, and then a session or two for each section of non-fight-non-downtime text that takes up a page or more in the book

my sesssions are usually 4-6 hours

My sessions are about 3 hours

Im expecting chapter 4 to be about 10 sessions and chapter 5 to maybe be a little shorter

About 160 hours all up

But this may vary wildly depending on how fast your group plays in combat/if they like doing non-misson-critical RP scenes, etc

Ironically my two groups play very differently but take the same amount of time

Monday group overanalyze everything so spend heaps of time getting stuff right on the first go

we're not that far into the game so far (only like finishing the second part of ch2 now) but I really just love how our squad has been jelling together lol. We've had some really fun character dynamics (and one Player Spoiler so huge i can't even let y'all in on it) but it's always so cool to me how well Grandma Squad plays together in a combat, even with our cruel evil transmisogynistic GM buffing every damn encounter (yes. including that one. you know the one). Grandma Squad doesn't know when it's joever, only when we're barack fr fr.
RP wise though [ch1] ||There was a cool char conflict moment after Grandma Squad escaped the Tachyon, where Azi (grumpy 160 year old foolhardy gilgamesh pilot), the ex-armory engineer, confronted my PC, Anzora (grumpy 80 year old reserved lanny pilot), about knowing more than she let on, since in a moment of panic Anzora accidentally revealed that she knew of Azi's past as a harrison escapee, and Anzora knew way too much about what was happening on the Tachyon for just some random lancer. It was a really tense moment where neither PC was willing to let up for a while, until Anzora finally admitted that she was on the run too. It was super dramatic and I can't wait to see what's gonna happen when the real truth finally comes out lol||

A few fun things both I’ve done and my players have done:

• making vtt animations for various combats in ch3
• making combat song lists that my players have loved or complained (affectionately) about
• my players’ SRT slogan is “Just Don’t” which they turned into into a PR campaign for the militia
• encouraged one of my players to post as their character on tumblr
• ch2 ||made the troll speak riddles on its turn from a broken voice box, much to its pilot’s own frustration||
• ch4 ||couldnt not cry portraying CAUSTIC and thinking about CAUSTIC’s situation. Had one player also have to step away for a few minutes. i did a lot of forewarning about the chapter’s weight and reiterating our safety tools as we worked through the chapter, especially since I also made it more personal, to great effect. The party saved CAUSTIC without fighting it though||
• ch4 ||gave 3 out of 4 party members at least one burden (a few got multiple) over the course of the chapter. with the players’ collaboration and consent||
• getting to portray Luna, a technophile NHP who was raised on pre-fall anime. She has grown into an absolute gremlin/menace. She now hangs out with the Truth, and hacked into (ch3) ||Steele’s live stream during the dome battles to draw on his face and edit what it seemed like he was saying, to make fun of him||)
• worked (act 2) ||Harris|| into multiple PCs’ backstories, and used details from (old act 2 drafts) ||the Ross tapes|| to help plan out another PC’s past trauma on Nestor

Pear Bradford left his parents behind on an agrarian world. Unknown if he has any siblings. If so, h left long enough ago (realtime) to safely assume he has great-niblings by now.

Gabriel Sparrow has extensive family, most of whom consider him an embarrassment.

Calamity Havok was an only child and was on good terms with her parents when she was exiled. They were very disappointed in her over that. It's been 36 years realtime since then, and she doesn't know if they're still around or not.

|| Kraken's brother is on the SSC Skyhook serving as Cordelia Smith's right hand. Moira is there too, having left Kraken after her actions broke Kraken's trust (and pissed the rest of the party off). Pear's Mother is also on the Skyhook. She was originally a researcher for the corpo and fled to that agrarian world when she had a child. She worked with Moira long ago on a genetics program... She used her own DNA as a part of it, which is why she ran off; Pear's genetics represent a very early prototype of the program and thus he's trade secrets. That program later created Kraken, Gabriel, and the woman that Calamity fell in love with and got exiled over. ||
But why?
||If that all sounds entirely too coincidental, that's because it is. ALL of this was orchestrated by a secret cabal of NHPs that Moira is a part of. They've been manipulating events for a few decades now. They were originally an SSC experiment to make a Thinktank/five voices equivalent out of a fleet legion of ATHENA and other predictive NHPs, and they identified Calliope as a nexus of important events. And there's someone else manipulating them too...||

Rose Bottle (my own oc) lost her parents at the age of three and her uncle who took her in at the age of 12. The Faith of the One became her new family. And then she (ch2)||ruined their plans and killed a bunch of them||

There used to be another one, but we don't talk about the incident. In reality, there were thousands of eggs and hundreds of larvae when SSC recovered them from Hercynia, but the experimentation they did to them only allowed the current 6 to survive)

She has tried several times to have a longtime partner to fill in the loneliness a bit, but by circumstances, either their disappearance or their death, it seems to never work out. Maybe in the near future she gets luckier.

last combat my team did was meat grinder.
Started with a pretty heavy enemy stack (I included it in my writeup I posted to the feedback channel the other day). Then while everybody was making plans, Howl charged far up the alternative route the players were calling plan b. The rest of the team stuck with plan A and she was left as the only target for five enemies. She managed to kick some ass but it wasn't enough, and she was destroyed before the rest of the team even got to the objective. For the whole fight the dice were not kind at all to the players and enemies that should have been wiped off the table easily stuck around far longer than they should. Also there were a few missteps, like all the players bunching up and all getting hit with a 4 burn aoe, kraken's flickfield kept failing when they needed it most, overcharges kept maxing the heat. That sort of thing. They scraped by a win on objectives only. All in all a lot of type 2 fun, the sort you hope to not do again.

probably would have been worse if I wasn't so flexible/forgiving. I allowed kraken to do Construct Ideal Image to clone the objective and confuse the enemy for a bit, and I took one NPC (an elite mercenary, even!) off the table for "free". It grappled Howl (the pilot) and carried her off the field. One dangerous enemy gone, but now they have to do a narrative rescue mission next session to save her.

To me, those are the sort of thing a GM can do to compensate for the dice. And we're getting more story out of it to boot!

Yeah, we had an Act 2 fight go absolutely brutally. It was a combination of bad rolls on the Players part, good rolls on mine, and a few really bad tactical choices on the players behalf. (If you have 7 evasion at LL8 and no other damage mitigation plan, don't end your turn out of cover, even if you have 20 HP and 2 armor)

Also an absurdly bad mimic gun roll on the part of our Death Head sniper. The highest pattern was an 8.

One of their biggest weakness as a group is a strong bias against wasting turns, via such actions as scanning and Provoking mimic guns, or withdrawing.

Popsicle is about 250 years old realtime. She got shoved into a cryo tube and woke up on Hell's Gate. She broke the printer by trying to print a 250 year old un-debugged print code for her Chomolungma, which we've decided was the first Chomolungma.

She didn't check for bugs or compatability issues with modern printer code.

Beetle is a Technophile from Nestor and didn't know that you shouldn't try to print caskets for NHPs, and tried to print a casket for his NHP friend.

Princess is a naiively philanthropic Karrakin noble who really does mean well despite her....ineptitude at reading the room. She broke the printer by trying to print an SSC mech her family has a license code for, but didn't do it properly and tripped printer's automatic DRM sensors. They won't un-trip.

Timber is a local from Hell's Gate and a thoroughly unlucky maintenance engineer. She doesn't know what she did; she's printer her prototype weapon before and nothing went wrong, but the Printer just...

We don't know, something bad happened. She's that unlucky

and then Reb, who's a former Hell Hound and even more former Harrison Armory commando, tried to "fix" the situation by using the station's printer to print a replacement printer.

Alright, this is just an in-joke in my play group, but I figured I'd spread the rot here:
There's a thing in my Lancer games called Temperate Path, a combination MOBA and dating sim where you can date mechgirls then play them in a MOBA as your heroes. It's explicitly a way for various corpostates (mostly HA, but SSC and IPS-N mechs show up too, HORUS mechs are popular mods) to advertise their killing machines.

The romance paths for each mechgirl/boy/enby are often quite well done and are integral to unlocking specific upgrades for the MOBA side.

The mechs have traits and personalities in the dating sim side of the game based off their mechanical quirks, reputation among pilots, and production histories. For example, Josephine, the HA Napoleon mechgirl, is aro/ace in the dating sim because she doesn't like getting touched. And so on.

This is all to say: Who do you think your version of IGF's NPCs (and your PCs) main in Temperate Path? Either side of it?

I like the idea that My version of Switch mains Francis, the huge dad-bodded caring Drake mechboy in the dating sim side, but is a filthy Vlad main in the MOBA. They're rather mediocre at the glacier lane, but still have entertaining streams.

Timber's player has declared she's a filthy ganker who mains Callie the Caliban in both the dating sim and the MOBA. The definition of toxic robot yuri, she will never get nerfed no matter how many players complain.

Also, any suggestions for design quirks I should ask to be included in the design?

The watsonian answer might be some deep-seated affinity with being monochrome, either an intrinsic NHP weirdness, or one programmed in by Seccom to make it obvious who is a human and who isn't

i like to think that NHPs take on a human-ish form cuz of their shackling directives

i also dig the bluescreen feel as like "exclusive to NHPs"

like anyone else will appear relatively normal on a hologram

I mean they could technically speaking but when the bulbs burn out replacing them is a pain in the ass and it’s just not worth it

I always assumed NHPs appear as blue in the 3d holograms because everything appears as blue on a 3d hologram (star wars/halo tech), and if you see them in virtual reality they are in full colour just like everyone else. If your projector is projecting an NHP in a different colour its a sign of paracausal weirdness because according to the spec sheet they're not meant to be able to do that

I gave Calamity's player free reign to design something for ||Harmony|| and they took inspiration from some art they love to make a hero forge model for her. It uses more yellow and orange than the teal of our calliopian NHP examples. I would love to see what direction you go with her for your comm!

Secondly, that’s a sick design but definitely leans more into the ||“SEKHMET-Class” elements of things and makes her more of an Egyptian Goddess or something.|| Ultimately the design I wanna go for is slightly more… grounded. Also ||my Harmony is lying about being a Sekhmet-CLASS NHP and is actually a Marduk-CLASS NHP, so not a lot I can steal from this.|| Still a cool AF design!

We’re going a mix between Justice Helltaker + an Aries astrology girl + being a buff mech fighter for the design. The changes I’m asking to change the initial sketch is lowering the sunglasses to be over her eyes, making her leather jacket sleeveless to show off her arms + and Aries tattoo, and have a cockier face/smile. also she’ll have a Fursona Alt where she’s a Ram.||

What I’d like is feedback on how to alter the design I’m pitching to my friend as part of this comm, see if we’re going in a good direction or not. Gina from B99 is also an inspiration but isn’t big in the design. So far.
