Spent most of my life in a foggy malaise not really identifying anything as "me". Discovered therianthopy online (shoutout alt.horror.werewolves and merely knowing what that is makes you old) and OH BOY identifying as not-human was a good start. Massive ADHD brainworms and brainfog ate most thoughts though. There's still a few little moments that stand out as egg behavior in retrospect but goddamn things were buried.
2003 I started college. re-met up with a friend from middleschool, and she came out as trans. I got super into learning about trans issues and such. Because I'm such a good ally and friend. That's all. Also met my partner!
2004 we started dating. We both had very vague but unexamined gender feels of the "but I gotta make rent somehow so I don't got time for that rn" variety and spent about 5 years struggling under capitalism. 2009 we got married.
2010 Kanaya Maryam (the character in my pfp) first showed up in homestuck and crawled into my head to live forever (I promise this is relevant). Also we got to a point where I could go back to school and work on my degree.
2012 I ended up getting an internship with a big corp for half a year on the other side of the country. While I was there, I found a local fan group for homestuck, so I started hanging out there and they were largely extremely queer and fun people. A week before I was done and had to go home, the fan group planned a "homestuck prom" where we'd do cosplay and such. This girl that I was friends with there wanted to cosplay as Rose Lalonde and hoped someone would do Kanaya with her (the two characters are canonically in a relationship) and nobody was biting... so I said I'd do it. That got the whole group very interested because I was presenting as a fully cis man this whole time. They dragged me out to a thrift store where I managed to score not only the perfect skirt and top for the cosplay but a near mint megaman 3 nintendo cartridge somehow? That part's unrelated.
So Prom day comes and I'm ready to go all out. I didn't want to be "in drag" or "crossplaying", I said I'd just... be a woman for the day. Totally normal cis thing to say. I had to travel on train and bus in a full length skirt, ballet flats, orange horns on a headband, black lipstick; the works. And I have a wonderful evening with my date and it was a good party. A week later I say my goodbyes, pack it up, and go home. I... kept the clothes. because why get rid of a good cosplay, right? Right?
Finally graduated, and the internship actually paid enough to support us so my partner was able to get back in school. I got a job in an incredibly oppressive heteronormitive insurance company writing software and between masking and growing queer thoughts. My partner was still in school 7 hours away so I was living alone. (self harm)||I nearly didn't make it out of there.|| By this point I was identifying as genderfluid, saying "some days I feel like a man, some days like a woman, some days nothing." I escaped the helljob and worked in a start up in Ohio for a few months till my partner graduated. They got a job in california so I followed them and we could live together again. The company they were with had a float in the San Fransisco pride parade and we got to go, which was a blast. I called my parents from in the parade and told them that I'm not a boy. They reacted positively, though my dad did drop the line "I'll always love you as a son" which... sounds way worse than it was, he's just dumb. "I meant "as my child", sorry I'm going to have to work on it"
Then one day my partner countered my description of being genderfluid with "when was the last time you had a 'man' day?" ...yeah it had been multiple years at that point. And I started going by she/her full time and found the more I leaned into being a woman the more gender euphoria I had. Their job got us good insurance and stability so we both got on HRT. Had to come out to my parents again to update the situation. Somehow in that conversation I mentioned I was a communist and my dad argued far more with me about that lmaooo.
So here we are, I'm a lesbian with an agender partner and we've been married for 16 years and both transitioned well after getting together and it works better than ever really.
