There is a bit of cross over between lancer and battletech do to mec genres but Battletech are more number crunchy and grounded skirmishes than the super fancy tech Lancer gets.
I personally prefer the Battletech method of handling houses and interconflict in a galaxy over lancer's narrative but that's a me thing.

I legged the warhammer and let it limp while the others chased. Jump jet onto a roof and powered down until the marauder II passed then boot up and backstabed with a rac/5 and 2 ermls into the squishy bits. Couldn't find the atlas so I poke-peeked the warhammer from two angles in the city to take out the other leg and put them out of their misery.
I ended up regretting going for the warhammer. The Atlas caught me kinda in the open and on a incline, so JJ over it's head... but it turned around quicker than I expected (MASC maybe?). Front Left Torso was thankfully wide open by the earlier battle and it missed it's alpha so wasn't doing great on heat. I face tanked an Atlas in an urbanmech, pouring everything into that side. Thank fuck for silly people putting XL engines in mechs that absolutely should not have them.

So first of all... If you find yourself unable to take complements, that's fine. It's terribly normal, i'm afraid! I have that problem too, even if I don't seem like it. Because I realized that people are never gonna stop giving complements, and it's rude to deny them, and you can make your friends sad or angry with it. So what I like to do is turn it around. Instead of going "AGH NO SHUT UP" like my instincts demand,, I complement them right back. And for most of my friends this disarms them immediately because they can't take complements either.

Right anyway Serenity, the direction she's going, the influence of your mood. Yes.
Stasis is boring.
Contrast is interesting. Change is interesting. If everything is dark you can't see anything, if it's all bright it's just as blinding. I'm not just talking about character moods, but about everything. While music thrives on repetition it's the changes to repeating patterns that makes music worth listening to. A painting that's all one solid color could be an avant-garde statement on the subject of art, but that's been done before. Same thing goes for characters, and on every level. Their moods can shift, but so can their personalities, their philosophies, their beliefs, who they are. People change. At the same time, what they're going through should change too. If everything is good and happy for them there's no motivating force to drive changes. If everything is bad and dark and painful, they can grow into a bitter thing that doesn't care and stops doing anything.
You need contrast, ups and downs, shadows and light. All of it.
Serenity started out as a beacon of joy and hope, and now she's losing that. This is good. Excellent, even. That's an interesting story, and it keeps open the question of where she goes from here. How far down can she fall? Will she ever turn it around? Can she return to hope, or at least find a balance and land on cautious optimism? Will this just be a mood, or will this affect her core personality? You have a lot of cool things you can do there.
And I know you're worried that some part of it is who you are and what you're going through. That you can't play her as hopeful when you're having trouble with hope. That's not a bad thing either. You will never make a character that doesn't carry a piece of you with them. None of us will. That's what makes them our characters. She can grow and change off of your influence... and the other secret of roleplaying? We also grow and change off the influence of our characters.

I'm really interested to see where Serenity goes from here, especially knowing what lies ahead of her. It can go a lot of directions, and all of them make for very interesting stories.
