My go-to is scmdraft2 (starcraft 1998 map editor) for a base, then adding props and shapes from my libraries in a photo editor of choice. By libraries I mean a mix of sprites from the shadowrun and fallout isometric games along with starlight furnace collections.
Mostly I use Photoshop. Previously I've used the map editor for fallout 2 (do not recommend), dwarf fortress with actual dwarves building my map and rendering it with stonesense (extra not recommended lmoa, did it on a dare), Tiled (a tool for using tilesets to make maps, recommended if you have a good tileset), and rollercoaster tycoon 2 (surprisingly effective with certain aesthetics)

Genuine question: how do you use a Slinger? Like specifically outside the context of the campaign how do you build opfors with them?
Because I want to love them and on paper they work.
But their primary control effect is a. Big flurries of reliable damage attacks, and b. Slow after ringing the bell.
And like. It still needs to hit to deal the slow. And even tho it’s AP the damage isn’t a lot. And it’s got decent HP but needs to be engaged to have a good shot at critting and it has no defensive traits in that regard. Also it needs to apply Deathmark in the first place too.
It feels like it needs to max out its optional budget to be competent and I feel like I’m missing something- because I wanna like Slinger because it feels fun to run but it really doesn’t do much in practice.

one of my random old calliope ideas was one of the original colonists packed a ton of frozen silkworm larvae and mulberry seeds with the idea of harvesting silk on the new world (invasive species be damned ig). But even without the habitable planets they somehow made it work, albeit at much smaller scale. Calliope silk is rare and shot through with printed substrate even still but a kinda "faux status" product on the station nevertheless. So there are a few silk moths about :)

Okay, have you played hotline miami? I'd use big hype tracks (possibly even from that ost), but ||the moment ??? activates, the sfx from the end of a level hits, a layer of static goes over the screen (FXMaster module in foundry) and the music cuts out entirely for the rest of the fight. Alternately bring the music back but only for player activations, though that either takes scripting or adds GM overhead. ||

I played session two of igf with my Thursday group, got +2 players to a team of 5 now.
GOOD HEAVENS they have already rocked combat one nearly completely. Round one, turn 3 for players, a mech ran straight at the Ace Merc and Pankrati charged it, and attacked like twenty times and murdered it. Just instantly gibbed.
Also the pirate's "Bounty" was a Drake with 3 armor, vs the Ace having 4 damage missiles and Strafe for 3.. almost literally impervious to him 😂 This man needs some gear to actually deal with the PCs if he's hunting them 😭
