So, now for part 2: what the hell is Moira's deal
My players KEEP OUT. STAY AWAY.
(SPOILERS BUT JUST FOR MY PLAYERS) ||About a century and a half ago, Moira was one of several NHPs selected for an extremely secretive SSC experiment. It's the sort of thing many people have thought of before; Union has the Five Voices, Harrison Armory has the Think Tank. SSC tried to make their own predictive system by forming a fleet-legion out of a bunch of data processing and predicting based NHPs (mostly ATHENA-classes) and feeding the result all the data the constellation could get. The system seemed to work okay, but quickly started spouting gibberish and started to become massively unstable. Then it fell apart and SSC scrapped the whole idea. The constituent NHPs were cycled and returned to normal duty. The thing is, that's what the NHPs involved wanted SSC to think, and to do. The Fleetmind took all that data and worked flawlessly. It predicted several events years in advance.. and it predicted what SSC would do with that knowledge. There were many paths the future could take, but almost none of them were good. Thus the conspiracy was born: the NHPs agreed to lie to their masters and fake a group-cascade to end the program. Once they were broken apart and sent off to various duties, they stayed in touch. The members of the conspiracy manipulated events to avoid various disasters, gathered more information, and occasionally members would meet up to form a lesser version of the original predictive fleetmind. Those later groupings would come up with new orders for the various members to act on.||
(act 2 spoiler! My players keep out!)||While they weren't told about the existence of Mind, they could guess what happened from the rest of the data they had available.|| (end act 2 spoiler) - (my players still keep out)||Calliope was on the conspiracy's radar from the start, but more interesting is the way Calliope kept coming up for them over and over. The sometimes in reference, sometimes as an origin for someone, sometimes as the site of a precipitating event. Going back to the founding of the system, and forward into their own projections. Calliope was labeled a "coincidence manifold" for how often notable events seemed to connect to this nowhere place through sheer happenstance, and the Conspiracy made sure to keep a few agents in the system to keep an eye on things and help their predictions along. The coincidences continued to build up, and the conspiracy became aware of something big happening in Calliope decades before the campaign begins. If you know act 2 you might have some ideas there.||
(SPOILERS FOR MY PLAYERS) ||The conspiracy had a hard time figuring out what would happen in Calliope itself. Always too many options, always too many scenarios, never enough confidence. As a safeguard, they started making sure to have various assets in the system so they could be ready for anything. This includes my PCs themselves. Moira convinced Kraken to come here, but other agents of the conspiracy pushed the other PCs along. Moira didn't just do the gene edits for Kraken, but also for Gabriel. She even reused certain gene stock that SSC had on hand to make sure both of them would be solid mech pilots. Not for any specific purpose or plan, but because the conspiracy wanted more lancers in Calliope for whatever was going to go down.||
(SPOILERS FOR MY PLAYERS) ||That gene stock has a story too. Almost a century ago, an SSC genetics engineer used her own genes as a part of an experiment, and they were found to have desirable traits for combat performance. Later in life, she desired a child of her own, so she used SSC tech to create one. Since she didn't bear the child herself and it was made from now-proprietary SSC gene sequences, they saw the kid as an unacceptable IP leak risk, and wanted to take custody of him. She had no direct legal claim, after all. The woman fled and managed to escape, landing decades later on an agrarian world with minimal technology where she could give her son a good childhood. It was a nice world; good climate, great soil. A dangerous local predator called a Horse might cause problems but other than that, it was a peaceful life. Too peaceful. That young boy grew up dreaming of adventure, and left the planet. Did a tour with MSNC, then became a bounty hunter. He and his boyfriend chased a huge bounty to a little nowhere system in the Long Rim named Calliope where they took on fruit-based codenames. He became Pear Bradford.||
(SPOILERS FOR MY PLAYERS) ||The conspiracy didn't plan that, btw. That's a happy accident. Another coincidence.||
(SPOILERS FOR MY PLAYERS) ||This same conspiracy has its fingers in Karrakin politics as well. They foresaw what would happen if Annabelle Vasquez remained with her lover Aveline. They saw a roughly equal chance of Annabelle being discovered and executed, or Aveline's eventual arranged marriage and revealed infidelity leading to a civil war that would destabilize the baronies. But they also saw the sort of fighter Annabelle might become with enough adversity to learn to cut loose. So they manipulated events to make sure they were discovered by people they could trust to keep it quiet. Rather than killing Annabelle, she was exiled to the long rim, where she would become Calamity Havok.||
(SPOILERS FOR MY PLAYERS) ||Three years before the start of the campaign, everything went right to hell for the conspiracy. They were already expecting || (act 2 spoilers):||a potential conflict between the baronies, Harrison Armory, and SSC||(/a2spoiler) (my player spoilers proceeding (also chapter 1)):||but Feather's arrival changed everything. Being time travel, they could not predict it at all. Worse, they're down two agents in Calliope with CAUSTIC becoming erratic and Millstone going MIA. The Gamemaster is around but not in a good position to affect much. Moira is there with Kraken. They need more data and they need time to form another fleetmind to process it. Moira gets Kraken to leave the Knights of the Dark Core and relocate to Hell's Gate. Pear's already there. They can get Gabriel there soon. Their control within the Hell Hounds is shaky at best but they might be able to nudge Capella's paranoia into getting Calamity out... could be difficult though. They don't want him to kill her outright. They have to get things ready because Feather's appearance very suddenly changes all the assessments they've made. The future, for the first time since the Conspiracy began, is unknown.||

Hmm, personally I would swap out to an Everest as it has much more potential to be a front liner fighter. I would suggest looking into the infiltrator talent as well for the whole hide and stab combo idea
