YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK IT, EVERYONE (almost) IS ASLEEP SO I HAVE MORE FOR YOU because I want to talk about Laplace's plan and how THF's own obsession with knowing everything came to bit them back in the ass
SO THEN

Laplace, as stated, was made to be obsessed with learning stuff and also to love people so that he would be compelled to seek other people to learn about them. Unfortunately for THF, despite Laplace only being a character that they are playing, he also turns out to be very very smart. This means that he very quickly figures out that he is a character being played by someone else (and yes there is a very funny parallel to this beat in a specific chapter i shall not mention but you know), and that the person he is being played by is directly responsible for destroying the one he now considers his protégé's life. This, understandably, makes Laplace very angry at THF, and so he begins planning to take over THF so that he may if not undo the damage at least make it so that Léo can properly function as a person.

This, however, is going to be difficult because he has limited agency (being someone else's puppet, as he calls it, effectively why he started the game as a Servant class NHP) and there is no way he would be able to win over THF in a straight up "fight". So the plan then, is to first become able to gain some form of agency, and to then find a roundabout way of taking power from THF. For that he needs one thing, and it's the goblin. Puppet systems would allow him to pull his own strings and therefore act independently (promoting himself to student class), then false idol would allow him to trick THF into undoing themselves. After debating the idea for a while, he decides that the best way to get his hands on a Goblin is Calliope and convinces Léo to go there (the aforementionned "plan" that he wouldn't go in specifics about).

It takes some time but mission 1 is a success, Léo and Laplace get access to Goblin 1 and he immediately manages to upgrade to student class, and henceforth begins altering his own code for purposes that will become important slightly later.

Mission 2 is also a success, though Léo is shaken by the events that unfolded and Laplace is forced to take the wheel for a bit, but, regardless, he now has access to Goblin 2 and with it False idol. Now that he is finally ready, and once Léo is feeling better enough to control his own body again, Laplace goes inward to confront THF, announcing that he is taking over. Unsurprisingly, he loses. THF is [ angry | disappointed |saddened ] at this betrayal and vows this mistake won't happen again, meanwhile Laplace is taunting for them to stop with the theatrics and just get it over with.

(fucked up stuff including murder, suicide and self harm) ||THF promptly integrated Laplace's code back into themselves to become The Hundred and one faces, deciding that Laplace's mission is done anyway. They've learned enough about humanity, they can move on. But something isn't right. Their code isn't responding correctly, it starts rebelling, one of the voices is discordant. It's Laplace, he's taunting them as he begins taking over from the inside, he re-coded himself into a parasite. There's a physical representation to what happens, the NHP is represented as a large coat with gloves, horns and a grin visible in the hood, but there is no visible body underneath. One of the hands becomes clawed, jams itself inside of the chest and tears out the heart as the voices either beg for their mercy, insist that this is suicide and they will all die, or decry Laplace's shortsightedness. He doesn't listen. A mask appears where the face would be, and it eats the heart. The voices go silent one by one until there's only one left. It's just him now.||

This was a bit of a gamble, which Lap doesn't like, but he hadn't found a better solution and he knew he couldn't keep this up much longer so he went with it. In this timeline he succeeded of course, but in other timelines he probably wouldn't be able to succeed at much more than ingrain empathy inside of THF's mind to try and force them to at least fix the damage they did to Léo at the cost of Laplace not existing anymore, or even worse, failing even that and just vanishing into unexistence.

But he succeeded because he's the narrative's favorite and never punished ever.

Kraken started the campaign with technophile 1, and a backstory that only gave her some details. Her name is Moira, and before the long rim she was a lead research NHP heading a genetics program that created Kraken in the first place. Kraken's parents were CCS execs that wanted a genius child they could show off as a status symbol. When min-maxxing for intelligence produced Kraken, an autistic chaos gremlin, they realized they missed their real goal and couldn't show this kid off in public. So Kraken effectively got abandoned, leaving Moira to raise them. She was also the one that suggested Kraken run away, and helped Kraken find a route to the Long Rim. Helped kraken get the attention of a pirate gang to "get kidnapped by". And in Kraken's escape, they took a shard of Moira with.

That's what the player came to me with. They also suggested that Moira should have a lot more going on and gave me carte blanche to decide what that is.

Over the course of the game, Moira started out being very private and secretive. She only talked with Kraken, and rarely if ever even "on-screen". When the team first got on the Tooth, Siren asked to meet "your friend in the casket", and had a very short conversation with Moira that left Siren feeling uneasy. Moira showed up a second time in ch2, giving Kraken a package to deliver to some address. The entire errand had zero context or meaning, but Kraken opened the box out of curiosity only to see a letter to them from Moira, and a framed photo. She said "Kraken, It's fine that you looked, but still please deliver this.". Her next scene was post Chapter 3. Kraken had said "Calamity I love you" (in a platonic way) and Calamity reacted badly, hurting their feelings. Moira talked to Kraken. "You've never said those words about another human before. I'm sorry it didn't go well. You know, you'll always have me." (Calamity then came back moments later to apologize, the 'love' word hit her weird, she has a lot of hang ups etc.

Moira's next moment was in chapter 4. So (CH4 spoilers)|| Moira told Kraken ""we're int he Outer Myriad" and instructed them to shut her down until "you see my signal". (Vex was spectating and kinda freaked out "How does she know what it's called?") When my players got caught in VORSHUNGSMOTOR, I stole the PC's agency by saying that in these loops (which I expanded to include a ton of custom timelines), they didn't have their memories from the game, but were just given the memories of that timeline. They couldn't see that anything was wrong with how those timelines played out. Not until Kraken accidentally caused a system crash and found a framed photograph. Kraken had delivered it to PHASE//SHIFT, and it was a picture of a worker, his husband, and their child. Of course the worker brought it with when they got relocated to Boltzmann... This gave Kraken their memories back, and they then broke into other simulations to get their teammates free.||

||After VORSHUNGSMOTOR they got back to their mechs, and Kraken figured that was the signal to reactivate Moira. They didn't do so right away though. Moira knew they would come to Boltzmann, knew what they would face, and set this up months in advance. Kraken's having trouble trusting Moira. They do reactivate her in time for the Caustic fight, and she remarked "CAUSTIC, what did they do to you?". After the fight, Annabelle Mckenzie (who was also Aveline, Calamity's long lost love) was dying from the crystals growing into her hardsuit. The team rushed to help, but Moira stopped Kraken; "she'll be fine, trust me, you need to take care of CAUSTIC". Kraken patched up it's casket and did a sort of mind-meld technophile 3 thing to bring CAUSTIC out of cascade... and Annabelle died. Kraken was pissed and hurt. "You said she'd be okay!" and Moira just remarked "That wasn't... it wasn't supposed to happen like this".||

After that chapter, Kraken did not trust Moira at all, and went on a trip without her. While they were gone, she disappeared, apparently hiring someone to transport her casket off Hell's Gate.

So that's the story as my players know it.

Part 2, what''s actually going on, what my plans are, and all the stuff my players don't know will have to wait till after lunch.

It wasnt the Arkenstone that corrupted the Kings of Erebor it was in fact the Ring of the Longbeards which Sauron (Or a servant of Sauron) had given onto the line of Durran Generations ago. This Ring was in direct designed to subjugate the minds and wills of the dwarven Monarchs (The Seven Rings given to the Seven Great Lines of the Dwarves) [Think of the nine Nazgul] which failed, not by the Elves realizing the trick but by the Dwarves being far to solid and stubborn to being subdued. Instead the most that could be done was slowly lead these Dwarf lines which eventually led these rulers to eventually make disastrous decisions, attract dragons (As per the case of Smaug the Funnily named Terrible [Because he was the smallest of the great drakes]), leading to eventually all but three of these rings being destroyed by mostly dragon fire

what i meant was that dwarves are totally able to be corrupted, not the same as humans ofc but rather in a greed sense, compared to power or immortality, just like thorin really quickly descended into some kind of madness over the arkenstone (at least in the movies). afterall, the why only a hobbit was the one able to carry the ring is because they are the least susceptible to be corrupted, an elf, a dwarf, and a human, can way easier.
pretty sure tolkien didnt go this rute, but in scandinavian mythos, a dwarfs greed can be as great as a dragon's greed, so much as to even turn into one.

the.... Only explanation that can really come up with was that the Arkenstone was kinda the King's Jewel. A dwarf way ov presenting it and saying "Look everyone! Im the king" and with it being stolen by Bilbo along with the after effects of the Ring of the longbeards (Which was in the Hands of Sauron by this point) did cause him a Great Deal of sickness which was in no doubt not helped by the Elves unrightfully demanding their gems and the Rivermen Rightfully demanding repayment after Smaug attacked them.

The story doesn't start with Serenity, but rather one of their parents, Heike Archterberg. Heike lived a peaceful life away from Calliope serving as a Coroner within the Neo Teutonic Union. The Neo Teutonic Union is a system independent from Union, choosing to retain their autonomy and culture isolated from the outside world.

However under the service of the Neo Teutonic Union were ongoing radical changes- changes that would threaten to overturn everyone's way of life. Unknown to Heike, or perhaps known and ignored due to the luxuries they did not want to lose, various political parties of the downtrodden began to emerge; these parties were stomped out whenever possible, but that reaction caused the situation to reach a boiling point. The parties became well organized rebels, and it didn't take long for the Neo Teutonic Union to become a warzone.

Heike fled the system, going as far as possible to make sure they would disappear without a trace. That led to a temporary stop on Calliope that became permanent when they realized there wasn't anywhere else to go. They fell in love, had a daughter, but it all eventually fell apart. They couldn't get home out of their mind, they thought they deserved more than the dingy, metal walls, they wanted sunlight, plants, birds in the trees. (I stole the Neo Teutonic Union but made my own thing, sorry not sorry)

That daughter, Serenity, grew up in a household of constant reminders that there was more out there. She became obsessed with flora, painting landscapes that her ren would describe. She was pushed hard by Heike, everything she did was barely not good enough, and so Serenity kept pushing herself harder, striving to be more. She always wanted to help people and found her calling in the operating room. There she became someone else; she was in charge, she felt like she held all of the power, she finally felt important.

She noticed many of her patients were members of the Militia and soon learned that there were barely any medics among the military. She decided to take the mantle and became a medic for the Militia, though her surgeon background often came through- this tiny, meek girl would instantly swap to a demanding, no nonsense personality.

After a particularly messy operation Serenity's mettle was put to the test; many injured, numerous dead, all from something that could have been available. She voiced her complaints to the soldiers and other medics about how sloppy the operation was planned, how messy the strategy was. She suggested alternatives but no one listened to her. Zinfandel overheard her complaints and Serenity froze in place, she wasn't ready to voice her solution to the person in charge, she wasn't ready to be put in the spotlight, she wasn't strong enough. Zinfandel practically forced her to speak and realized that although her plan wasn't perfect it was sound, they promoted her to field analyst.

After a few years planning operations for the Militia a new force was needed; Jerry was bringing back the Strategic Response Team and was looking for candidates. Perhaps he saw himself in her: small, meek, anxiety ridden, and romantically inept- he decided that Serenity would be the perfect squad lead for this new SRT. Squad Commander Archterberg has a nice ring to it. She still feels that longing, longing she doesn't fully understand. Is it for a home she never knew? A life she never had? Or is she just looking for a purpose to fight for?

Side note, Serenity grows plants in her apartment and always has flowers that she usually puts in her hair and little fruits on standby.

Serenity was originally just "i want to play a medic character and i know nothing of lancer or Calliope" so all of this was added throughout the game
