Unrelated to the discussion at hand but related to IGF (to everyone's surprise) I forgot by which mean the team gets to the listening post for combat 2 and I might be stupid because I didn't find it while playing the other day

So in a panic I just said "Fuck it the dragon's tooth is operational let's go marines"

VERY minor Ch1 spoilers, if anybody actually cares ||After Food Run, I did a full narrative session on Hell's Gate. My first session had shuffled off to the combat a bit quickly so I wanted to give them all more time to roleplay. We planned several scenes ahead of time, and in one of them, Calamity Havok was getting food at a small automat. She was standing in line, waiting, when someone tapped he shoulder and started yelling at her. Apparently this guy lost a brother to the Hell Hounds and was ready to take it out on her. She's still under Jerry's probation rules, so she just tries to ignore it, but soon another person joined in the abuse. Then more. People were throwing trash and yelling. It was turning into a small crowd, and Calamity balled her fists. She's not supposed to fight. She doesn't want to fight. Some part of her wants to just take it all and let the mob tear her apart. She deserves it. But some other part of her won't let her die, and she knows what will happen if that part takes over. People will get hurt. Maybe even die. And Calamity will lose another home. Well. It had to happen sometime, didn't it. She spies someone in the crowd with a large pipe. That's not good.||

||Then suddenly there's a pair of hovering drones in her face, and this annoying little stringbean person stepping in between her and the crowd. "WHATTUP CALLIOPE ITS YA BOI and look who we have here! One of the pilots who just finished a food run for the Gate! That's right switchboard you can thank this lady here for your snacks and drinks tonight. Hey Calamity, can I call you Calamity?" Switch is laying it on louder than normal, and the mob is starting to disperse with a bunch of cameras watching them. They ask for a little interview, then takes Calamity to a slightly more private side nook, turns the cameras off, and asks if she's okay.||

||She claims to be fine, but she recognizes what they just did for her. She owes them one. They have an idea of what she can do...||

(ch1 fight 2) ||So as the team is loaded into a tin can of a shuttle, Switch is there with them on a ridealong. Streaming while they wait the few hours to get to the platform. They're still forty minutes out when all of a sudden out of every comm system and speaker available the most terrible music starts to play. I had a playlist ready with cbat, penis music, bad recorder jurrasic park, and more. Vex and I actually spent a night throwing bad music ideas at each other for it. Then a voice cut through the noise. S1GN4L caught them early and hacked the shuttle's systems. Not only are they getting treated to a musical assault, but the controls are locked out. They're going to have to jump. He specifically mentioned that sneaking up on him was always gonna be stupid, but now doubly so; he's watching the stream, morons.||

||The shuttle slammed into the platform and the player mechs land nearby, starting Denial of Service. Switch rode in Calamity's expanded compartment. The shuttle pilot was a compcon, lost in the crash. They fight, they win, and they don't exactly pay attention to what happened to S1GN4L. Jerry sends Siren, now just out of cycling, to pick them up. And since that took a little longer than needed, he and Shelly already had time to analyze the data they were getting. He ordered Siren to take them straight to Chameleon, and he'd brief them along the way.||

not much happened though, it was mostly just chatting about the food run they just did

One of the players, Jésus Rodriguez, was working on the repairs of his mech in the bay because the team took a few good hits
During the repairs Switch arrived loudly in the hangar with the classic "What's up lancers it's ya boi Switch, back at it again Live from the long rim, and today I'm showing you one of our new heroes-to-be back from the latest food run to prevent us from all starving to death!"
They ran up to Jésus (who was very much not happy to suddenly be accosted but doing his best to stay cordial) and asked him about the fight, how it feels to be part of a small strike team, what diffculties they encountered, etc. Before leaving Switch went for a high-five which they begrudgingly got.

After a moment of calm (ie. once Switch left), Calamity who was working on another nearby mech intervened to say "They're a bit loud, but they bring home the money, so."
Then they talked a bit about the fight they got in. She was working on repairs for John McDriver's mech (another player character) while he wasn't there because he hates her guts on account of the whole hell hounds thing.

John McDriver's mech had gotten totaled by a surprise last minute cataphract charge, which pierced his cockpit something like 3 inches from making a big hole in his hardsuit as well

As to why he hates Calamity, it's not for any specific reason, but he's been in the militia since he could fight, so were his parents, and even though he was like, 7 at the time, the demon winter left a big impression on him

For that fight in Cruye's remix game, ||she set up a seeder mine and two held-action skirmishs, and walked the demolisher on to the mine. The whole first round we felt like we were getting in free hits. I mean, who's going to walk into range of a held-action skirmish? Then she used metafold shove to swap the demolisher. Suddenly we had a two ton hammer in our backline and our chomolungma landed on a mine and got shot twice. Cruye did not hold back on us at all, it was terrifying.||

All of the PCs in my campaign are NPCs in the book! Calamity Havok (ch1, pg 74) , Kraken (ch1, pg 75), Gabriel Sparrow (ch2 pg 116), and Pear Bradford (ch3, pg 161). I live and feed off hearing stories about them at other tables, so please tell me any stories you might have of them. I will share them with their players.

I'm a strong supporter of the idea that every game of IGF is a different timeline, so I love hearing about what they're like as NPCs at other tables. I'm also more than happy to talk about what they're like in more detail, what the PC versions have gone through, etc. Fuck I love storytime.

Then I drew something back, and now I'm friends with that player, too. we have our own game going with all of our characters: Charlotte, Calamity, Kat, and Rose

There's a handful of NPCs who were PCs in the campaign that inspired Vex to make IGF, there's a few NPCs added as kickstarter backer rewards and then there was another reward tier for a "mention" where a character's name was used in the book but they aren't really characters, like Tarben Makali and Dr. Rose Bottlé
