Chapter 5 (and the ongoing storytime) || Calamity woke up in the hell's gate medical ward. It was dark, but she could make out the lights of Siren's subaltern sitting next to her bed. It's plugged into the wall and charging, but as she started to regain consciousness Siren woke the body from sleep mode to be there for her. She assured Calamity that she and Pear will be okay. They mostly needed hydration and rest. Calamity is just glad to see her, happy to be back, and filled with guilt about her behavior. Siren was only trying to help and Calamity just... doesn't know how to handle that. Not when she's in that much pain. She fell back on the awful habits she gained in the hell hounds. Someone trying to get close was a threat, so she pushed Siren away. Siren is reassuring and just thankful they're both okay. Calamity is the first to bring up their relationship. They'd been getting closer for a while, and she really did appreciate the way Siren tried to help even as she lashed out at her. She wants to be with Siren. She wants to take her out dancing. But she also doesn't think she's going to be in a place where she can do that for a while. Maybe not ever. She never thought she'd see Aveline again. She already grieved that loss. And then she got a chance, and Aveline was in her arms, and then torn away AGAIN. She'll never really get over that. Siren is moved, and can't help but give Calamity a hug. "When you're ready, I'll be ready."||

ch5 ||In the other bed, Pear started to wake up. He didn't want to interrupt them so he tried to stay quiet, but at this point he made an exaggerated yawn and rolled over so they could know they weren't alone. The medical monitors alerted the staff that they were waking up, so shortly they were joined by Jerry, Kraken, and Gabriel. They all have a big group hug, and the team is back together. The next day when Pear and Cal are released, Gabriel give the team a briefing on recent events including the abduction of Loki and Switch.||

(ch5)||Calamity had an idea, and she knew the others probably wouldn't approve, so she didn't tell them. She remembered the recordings they found on Boltzmann, the ones from the cult. It sounded like Ignatius was really close with Annabelle Mckenzie, and she still has his contact info after they met in Furnace City. She called the priest and informed him of his team's deaths. And she told him about Annabelle. He responded with a great deal of sorrow, but since the team lost contact months ago he's had some time to come to terms with it. It's as he feared. Calamity spoke about Annabelle as if she knew her, and he inquired about that. And Cal found herself telling him the whole story. How Annabelle was her name, how they fell in love, how they were torn apart. Ignatius was able to fill in the gaps and tell her how Aveline came to the long rim and spent everything she had looking for her. How this led her into despair, and how the cult saved her. Ignatius became a father figure for her, and they were close but she never told him why she took the name Annabelle. Ignatius and Calamity talked about her at length, sharing stories and remembering her well. It was a deeply humanizing moment for the cult leader in my story and established an unusual bond for him and Calamity. She told him that she was going to have a funeral for her soon, and... he's welcome to come. She'll make sure he doesn't get any trouble on Hell's Hate. He is... unfortunately unavailable, and hints that they may soon again be at odds with each other. He laments that fact. He also promises that whatever's going to happen, he won't let it interfere with the funeral. ||

However, they had been working on another: CAUSTIC. carefully helping it recover from the loss of TRIPLEPOINT. Not really re-shackling, but helping it achieve a more stable state. Kraken regularly lets CAUSTIC connect to their brain and learn from a human mind directly, a sort of soft-shackle effect. Kraken traded Technophile 3 for Iconoclast 3.||

(ch5)||Then Calamity got a message from Harmony, the NHP she might have hooked up with in the middle of her drug binge. Her girlfriend kicked her out, and she needs a place to stay. Conveniently, she heard Cal was looking for a SEKHMET co-pilot. Just... one other thing... Harmony's instituting a new personal rule. No more sleeping with her pilot. WAY too messy.||

(ch5)||The team did some investigating into Switch's disappearance, and found their storage room with a Sunzi. They also called around about Loki's abduction||

(Ch5) ||Calamity held a public funeral for Aveline, and in the tradition of Calliope she was supposed to give away the deceased's possessions. Only... she barely had any. Just the few things they recovered on Boltzmann and some keepsakes Calamity had managed to bring with her in her exile. It'll have to do. But then someone from the Faith of the One arrived with some crates. Ignatius arranged for Annabelle's belongings to be brought to the Gate so they could be given away. People came through and took a small thing each. Calamity was the only one here who knew her, really, but that's the way the tradition works. The rest of the SRT all took something small. Then Calamity saw a small plush animal that she had gifted Aveline back when they were together, and she broke down holding it. This one she kept for herself. She didn't expect to ever see it again.||

(ch5) ||Kraken's the first to detect the intrusion attacks on Hell's Gate. Then the message goes out about the omninode hack and the coopting of the emergency announcement system. Then Switch's stream starts, and Jerry orders the whole militia to muster. The session ends on Jerry's incredibly calm “Yeah, we’re gonna put a stop to that.”||

Just asked in the middle of my game.

Pear was a bounty hunter for years and before that did a stint in MSNC. He wasn't exactly particular about what jobs he took.

Gabriel... he's a black marketeer but honestly that's just a cover so he can do good works. Worse he got was someone lied to him and he blacklisted the person, but later they needed help and Gabriel refused. The person died, and it keeps him up some nights. Also that alt-timeline where he killed billions of people. (as noted in one of my storytimes not too long ago)

Kraken's killed people before, but come on, most of them deserved it! Maybe just for annoying them, but that's like a justification.

Calamity Havok did a lot of stuff with the Hell Hounds. One big one that's still hitting now: she collected a bounty from Capella for killing a Hell's Gate militia member. The daughter of the member met her recently... (that's a storytime for later...)

In my previous IGF campaign:

Humboldt was a long rim pirate lord who got baited by [act 2 spoilers]||Odin so that Baldur could have some more authentic live target practice and that way he got his ass kicked so incredibly hard by Baldur that he fled to Calliope and started up a new life||

Cascade grew up in a cult and got kicked out of that and a Horus cell for being too fucking annoying and also because his osiris nhp eats people. During the campaign itself his NHP, Abraxas, just ate a guy randomly. Greywashed his ass. No provocation, just felt hungy.

Not actually technically immoral but I did also have another player who had a hatsune themed mech.

So post mission 3 (post mission 3 but not spoilers, just spoilers maybe if you are interested in getting an Osiris class NHP in IGF) ||the PC had a goblin but decided to pick up the IMP. I asked the player if their PC wanted the Imp or not.||

||That session was hectic af and amazing. It was post downtime when I asked my PC how they planned on getting their NHPs, they just put out a message for more NHP co pilots on the muse. First that turns up is a subaltern who just keeps going "I find you interesting" who was just watching through party going drinking in the GMS_GENERIC_BAR, then the horizon member of the party got a message saying "we've got you a task, a recently awoken NHP who's struggling thinks they can help your coworker as a co pilots, meet Striga so she can give them to you" and then McArthur comes into the bar, grabs the PC and starts to drag him away in a half drunken stupor and goes "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS" pointing to a broken printer and a horus IMP||

||After a while of mcarthur shouting at a Harper (his name) who is half drunk and has no fucking clue what's going on, the mech begins to glitch to life and stands and shouts||

||YES, THIS FORM IS RESPLENDANT!||

||And after talking, the whole party is loving it besides Hatch and Harper. Hatch is ex circuit so is scared of NHP wannabe gods, Harper is half drunk and is grovelling before his own mech||

||Ozzy decides he wishes to go for a little stroll, and just starts walking down hells gate corridors Dr Livesy stride style, people hardly able to fit past him as he walks about the place, and its a mixture of trying to persuade him to go to certain locations. At some point he just paracausally hacked a door which is only manually openable to open||

He also nearly broke Harpers hand by shaking it

Phoenix (named by the players, iconoclast NHP) was originally they/it but after this mission gonna become he/they and get a hologram of a scientist in a slightly singed wool jumper who occasionally sparks and just has massive deep missing gashes that slowly flicker through the hologram

Rube, the technophile NHp Is just in a custom Ruby coloured subaltern, quite generic

St Helens the AGNI NHp hasn't manifested anything yet but is probably going to manifest next session as a hologram of a woman in full plate and a long sword with no helmet, long flowing hair which is always in a gentle breeze and a permanent backlight behind her head with a Christian esque halo behind her at all times

And then Ozzys physical form just is harpers mech

I think im gonna keep doing a recurring bit that Ozzy keeps applying to jobs and keeps either getting fired or turned down

Him working as a waiter at the GMS_GENERIC_BAR in a 7-8ft armoured mech wearing an undersized apron serving drinks and he keeps breaking them until he somehow provokes a bar fight against himself and somehow fucking loses

In TRIPLE-POINT's simulation, they've either been spared, or are at somewhere far worse than the end of all things. Even folks that are currently dead are here, so that absence will be felt.||

Fourth Hell's Gate dream:

I had gotten ahold of some rare ingredient. Dream logic wasn't telling me what it actually was, but the sort of thing you don't eat by itself. I got chased through Hell's Gate by people asking if they could have some of whatever I was going to make. I guess there's not too many people who do a lot of cooking on the Gate. I ended up going to Samorn Patalung, who let me behind her counter. We cooked together and I was having a blast. We moved around each other, planned a few dishes, and started serving things up. A big crowd formed at the noodle shop and we made some amazing food together and it was cozy and nice. I think the ingredient might have been real butter? Possibly cream? There were shrimp getting cooked at some point but shrimp isn't very hard to farm in space. It wouldn't have been meat, I'm vegetarian. And I don't think butter or cream fit with the sort of cooking I'd imagine Mama Patalung to do but who knows. Dream logic.

this is my fifth IGF dream though. I don't think I said before but I met (ch3)||the crone|| in a dream once. I didn't write it down though so no details. I just know we talked. Which... is terrifying.

ever since archie and siren met they've been around each other; archie didn't really have a place to put her casket on hells gate other than a supply closet so siren was more than happy to let it sit in there since they got along so well and she just so happened to see archie at probably her most vulnerable ||right after being mind assaulted by feather||

How many people have run Act 1 previously, any general time line (Session count) people have observed?

Really depends on party wanting to rp, have side sessions of goofing off and how well they go through combat

In my extremely informal observations, IGF act 1 takes 40~45 sessions to complete. My team finished in 45 sessions doing 19 combats, and I'm on the higher end of things, but I've seen some groups really expanding things and digging in on their downtimes so I'm not the absolute highest end.

This is my experience with Wallflower Act 1, which I would say IGF is comparable to in terms of size, I'm expecting aprox 1-year worth of a game, basically.

Which is huge, I was just curious if people had run it and seen it as a shorter-than-that campaign, as a general statement. Very exciting, I enjoy a meaty game that spirals into it's own non-sense.

||that was such a beast to prepare for, but between @tight pier and I, we got it done. for today we started with descending into the Metavault and had up to Vorsehungsmotor prepared, but just because our players seemed eager, we did all of the Hall of Mirrors in one giant session. the rest was a combination of Athena working diligently while I ran the narrative, and me improving character dialogue I didn't have the time to write out||

||our players were very happy with how the session went, and I am so fucking relieved. it went the best I could ever have hoped for, and smoothly too. there was at most one miscommunication and it was so minor that it was fixed in like 10 seconds (for our players, anyway)||

||@thorn hinge I want to indirectly thank you for the lines you were looking for recordings for all the way back when. I took the lines and replaced the campaign specific ones for our PCs/their families and really scunched the fuck out of everyone||

Ive run IGF and wallflower, I could finish wallflower in one accedemic year worth of sessions. I started running IGF before the accedemic year started and im only just 1 session off finishing mission 4

I also struggle with pacing friend; i like to write out when i would like certain events to happen with plenty between so the players can do whatever they want
