I realized I lost track and stopped telling my chapter 4 tales before the good stuff. Again. I'm going to get back into it, because doing this helps get me back in the mood for the game and maybe is helping me get back on prepping? At the very least it feels good and I need that.

Okay so last time on, (ch4 spoilers)|| my crew entered the mine, fought at the spire, dug a hole and went deeper. Calamity heard the voice of Annabelle McKenzie and recognized it as the voice of Aveline Messerli, her lost love, the woman she swore to protect and the reason she was exiled. Just before this chapter she had told her team her whole sad story and they all swore to help her find Aveline. CALLIOPE COINCIDENCE NOTE: Calamity's parents gave her the name Annabelle back in the KTB. The player came up with that on their own, unaware that the name would show up later. The team enters the outer myriad and their sensors go fucky in several different ways. Kraken's NHP Moira calls the "the outer myriad" by name, and asks them to shit her down into a dormant state "until you get my message". Siren's offline, and Stoneleigh is holding on but quite freaked out. Especially by the sensors trying to tell her this is a green meadow on a earth-like planet.||

||In the Hall of Mirrors the players hit the horrible whispers. I wrote an ambient piece for the background music, "AMBIENT MINESHAFTS AND BROKEN SIMULATIONS IN C", and the whispers I prepared with the help of volunteers. I recruited some from various friends groups and servers, and I got some people here on pilotnet to join in. I collected almost a hundred voice recordings, then worked them with effects editing into 31 terrible whispers. Many targeted the PCs directly, some indirectly, some weren't even for them. I also had each player record one line ahead of time in their character's voice, taunting another PC. I hit the players with whisper after whisper, some going to a PC alone, some to the group, all of them played for every player to hear. The players voluntarily took stress when a whisper got to them particularly hard and all of them got hit, but Calamity broke when she heard Andros Capella's voice, taking the burden "too broken to fix"||

||During all of this, the background was this dark hall of shiny black crystal shapes. It was originally a stock video clip of a animation travelling through a tunnel that I filtered and edited to be a lot darker, and I used the first frame as a still image background. After the players got through the whispers and found Annabelle's final recording, Calamity started repeating her advice "Don't trust the voices". I swapped the background for a version of the video that starts extremely slowly, so it looked like the background just started moving and it took each player several moments to realize it. A black spot appeared in the middle of the screen and grew until it filled the browser. At that point they reached the exit, and I asked the First Question.||
