Peak book honestly. While i dont have the power nor the committment to DM IGFA1, it is without a doubt one of the best lancer supplements i've read to this point.

I have a few questions after first reading it, but i believe they're from me skimming over some of the text-y parts of the book. (SPOILERS FOR CH1 and CH5, but mainly chapter 5) ||Mainly why Capella is reborn in the Fire Gate even if he isn't killed during chapter 1||

But yeah. all in all I rate IGF: A1 a solid 9.5/10. Whilst a complex book from first glance, In Golden Flame: Act 1 surpasses even Wallflower with it's intricate designs and interactable environments making every combat encounter fun to play beyond just "shoot until it dies." I look forward to seeing what Act 2 has in store, and I excitedly wait for Act 3.

And then there's my group, that went in feeling great. Unit cohesion at an all-time high, feeling like they were passing from friends to found family. Calamity in particular had started to realize she could really have a future here, with Hell's Gate and the SRT, and she even started to realize she was feeling some romantic feelings for Siren.

When they came out they were a broken mess. In downtime 4 they all split up. Kraken ran off to Three Sisters, Gabriel locked himself into his paperwork, Calamity and Pear both disappeared into a haze of booze and drugs

Rosé killed a lot of people. Evalina Bondarchuk after she tried to blackmail her into betraying the cult AND the SRT. Two of her handlers when she broke with the cult. Nearly got Siren killed when the cult used her credentials to access and sabotage the Dragon's Tooth. And worst of all, 55 civilians... (ch2 spoilers) ||As a double agent, Rosé gave the cult actionable intel that allowed them to get the laser up and running. In Killer Sound, there was no true CZ; we couldn't possibly win because the cult had already moved the focal array. It wasn't until the team was on the train heading for the reactor core when Rosé couldn't take it anymore and turned against hte cult. The SRT was successful in stopping the laser from firing, but fifty five civilians died in the aftermath of the charging sequence. Rita gave her a list of the casualties. She's memorized every name. ||

Well... it drove Vex's character into a self destructive spiral that ended with them leaving the team, but honestly a good part of that was that Vex wanted to switch to a different character concept and had some other stuff going on.

Ch2 spoilers: || The rest of the team were more or less ready to take Rose in. She made mistakes, but was clearly feeling horrible about it. Jerry and Rita had an agreement to cover up the whole traitor mess because it would make both station managers look bad. Rose was effectively under house arrest, living on the 'Tooth with Siren as her jailer. The two of them had to deal with some romantic tension with the whole traitor thing standing between them. Kristiaan (vex's character) was pissed. Rose's betrayal hurt them a lot, and combined with some horus fuckery from getting their pegasus license, Kristiaan was even starting to doubt their own sanity. They were worried that they were the mole and didn't even know it. All that fear and pain they transferred into anger at Rose||

Ch3 spoilers: || On Asphodel, our team turned down the Blacksmith's offer. Kristiaan learned that some house of smoke assassins were after them (they wrote a book about Sanjack that caused a lot of publicity, and also helped some ungratefuls get out of the baronies). So, they went to the blacksmith behind the team's back and made a different deal. Kill the thief, and the blacksmith's people will protect them from the assassins. Well, the assassins hit first, and Kristiaan was in hock to the blacksmith for one dead thief. They had trouble getting away from the SRT though. When we found them trying to sneak off, we got the story out of them and decided to help. We beat the Theif's forces, and when we opened the cockpit we found... Fern, Vex's character from another IGF game.||

CH3 continued spoilers ||They couldn't do it. They let the thief go, then called up the blacksmith and told him that the SRT had nothing to do with the deal or the choice to end it. Kristiaan agreed to turn themself into the burning forge in exchange for our team going free. We.. reluctantly let them go, because otehrwise we'd endancer the mission to the dome. Rose has plans to go back to the Forge before leaving asphodel though, and trying to bargain for Kristiaan's life. She feels like she owes it to them. ||

||Later, the team went to the night market and encountered a strange person playing a violin. They immediately called out to us, and noted that we "seemed to be down a member". This would be Reynard Ma'at, Vex's new character. It would turn out that this character is actually a dimension hopping Loki turned full trickster god. One of the more terrifying early notes is when he looked at Rose and said "weird. Normally you're not around at this point"||

It's Fritz's current mech, the H1N "Richter", made by a subsidiary of GMS in the Daoid system. They basically saw the need for a mainline battlemech and said "how can we make this as durable as possible?" It's why it has a rounded, reduced profile compared to its counterparts. More manual controls and redundant systems ensure that damage won't slow it down as much.

The nickname "Richter" (meaning "judge") was one the pilots gave to the machine, both as to how it made them feel as well as making a pun out of it's designation "H1N" since it would then spell out the Neo-Teutonic word for "executioner", "Hinrichter"

I try to give both my pilots and mechs a bit of history and character Fritz's previous mech was an LKL-1C, a very old Everest model taken out of mothball and pressed back into service due to the Neo-Teutonic Civil War kicking off. It's the mech his unit piloted the most and the one he originally brought to Calliope. Its nickname? "Alter Kamerad", meaning "Old comrade" (basically friend and battle brother)

Suneater's an original production Anton Industries Störtebeker that's been ship-of-Theseus'd many times through complete destruction and replacing elements to suit the current pilot. Elements of it's printcode and printed parts however still have the old Anton insignia if you know where to look.

Exactly how it managed to make it's way to Calliope is patchy at best, but it was a duelling mech that made it's way into the mech-fighting leagues and stayed relevant in the years to come. Handed off from one competitor to another either in trades or 'inheritance' as Quil acquired it in the middle of reaching out to try and get one of his Family's mech licenses transferred to his name. And being the historical mech fan he is (and a bit of a Sparriboo) he jumped at the chance to pilot it. Something that hasn't quite come up in-game is him trying to work out how it got it's callsign originally, one which he's currently using.

The interior is an absolute piece of shit, it's basically a crawlspace with minimal lighting where you're sandwiched between the reactor and truesilver whitewash reservoir. Half-exposed electronics everywhere, there isn't even a main screen, it's VR helmet controlled. Despite that, he hasn't changed the helmet from the original stock model as "that'd ruin it's history!", instead just adding an SSC partial subjectivity module to make it run at least somewhat smoother.

||We were trying to figure out how to get into the Tachyon and Siren had the idea of shooting at it. This failed. Frei, our perpetually upbeat Karrakin noble, suggested we simply ask nicely to be let in - then we got called by the ship's something-or-other asking us to surrender, dock, and prepare to be boarded, which we did, and this actually worked because we docked and we weren't boarded (as far as we know...) and the party was kind of incredulous that it worked. Then we got some birb jumpscares, and Val (the probably-a-secret-agent lady) at some point did try actively talking Feather down and that was kinda funny, and then we got to A Face to a Name and THAT was where I ended up making the "Why did you Andros explode" edit because Val proceeded to get caught pointblank when Andros went boom and nearly died, but she survived with some facial burns,|| and now we're past that and onto Mission 2 and I cannot wait to see how this progresses from a simple investigation into an escalating series of brawls.

ho-kay, so! SRT Leviathan has officially survived and beaten mission 3, couple things happened during the session (ch3 spoilers)
||- The team immediately calls out bad star and asks him if he's gonna last more than 43 seconds this time

• in the span of round 2, bad star goes into irreversible meltdown (Fritz went wild), the elite hornet goes into irreversible meltdown, the Goliath gets exploded with bad star, the scout gets obliterated by a siren strike, the sniper who is the only one left decides to quit
• bad star did not last more than 30 seconds and gets clowned on by the entire system since Quil was streaming the encounter
• Steele tries to fire his big orbital laser at Furnace city in a fit of rage, only to realise they have entirely lost control of the targetting, thanks S1GN4L (also hearing an utterly baffled Steele saying "...What the hell is 'PWN3D'?"
• The whole team goes back to Furnace city, mission accomplished, everyone is happy
• We go into downtime and Matsci reveals that we have a new "Ruin Steel's day" downtime action
• Quil immediately takes it to clown on Steele some more with his omninet streaming gig, decides not to take any accuracy and gets a nat 20 because it was meant to be
• Leo also decides to ruin Steele's day by breaching into Impact Plaza's bank records and delete a bunch of debt records, including Dowels Dekalb who when alerted immediately quits her job so now there's no one working ID liaison in furnace city anymore
• Sam goes back to see the Blacksmith and everyone is sweating bullets because he's gonna try and talk him out of being a horrible person and/or maybe tell him that we double crossed him and let the thief live (didn't end up telling him
• Union shuttles were here and now all eyes are on Aisaan who everyone knows is a Union agent and also kind of a big fucking deal ™️ in the system after what just happened
• Siren gets a bunch of weapons and blows up rocks on the way home for enrichment, and the team discusses the perspective one gets from your body being a spaceship
• The team gets back to Hell's gate and Fritz wants to show something to the others
• Turns out Fritz's organisation, "Legacy", who had been fighting another group called "New Dawn" that were behind the war back in his homeland, was in possession of a caliban sized thing called the Interloper that they yoinked from New Dawn that has the ability to spew liturgicode that makes technology go haywire, catch fire, or just do things that frankly disregard reality, and that he had been using this capability as a system for his mech (which is how he sent bad star into meltdown on round 2)
• It was inactive though it did suddenly activate when Sunbird came through the fire gate and exploded it
• No one's entirely sure of how the Interloper works so Leo and Sam decide to "Have a look"
• Leo sees something that he only describes as "Birdsong, a tree splitting down the middle, and sorrow. So much sorrow."
• Sam also sees something but doesn't manage to pull out of it. Something on the other side sees him. Leo slaps the shit out of him to break him out of it. Feeling shaken Sam takes 3 stress and moves away saying he needs to not be here for a little bit.
• Now basically convinced that whatever's on the other side of the Interloper has to be Feather so he decides to look again, this time using the Possession bond power he just got to ask her Why she's doing this, what is it she's looking for
• He gets answers blasted into his brain and falls backwards unconscious and crying (with +2 stress)
• Sam takes the halfway delirious and rambling Leo to the medway
• Fritz, Ai and Quil go "Well shit" and discuss the way forward. Fritz decides he's gonna have to tell Jerry about this (Because Jerry was not told about the ticking timebomb that Fritz & co had brought here on Hell's gate)
• Leo wakes up in the dead of night with strange dreams, grabs cans of spray paint and rushes out to make graffiti on the walls of the station
