Wish you luck 🤞
||In the later acts, Feather's power has grown to a point where she begins to approach the level of the MONIST entities. It's implied in various places that this can happen to any NHP who spends long enough as an Eidolon. I won't say what she does with that power because even if it's in spoiler tags I'd like to keep story spoilers for later acts out of this channel, but there's a channel for GMs where we discuss the campaign and future acts as they're being written (https://discord.com/channels/426286410496999425/909574961931362365).||

I do believe so
interesting!
There's some differences between which Morgan you pick but the song isn't one of them. The male vocalist sings the song in the credits, the one in game is sung by a band formed by some staff on the station and you find the recording of the song sung by the Chief Archivist of the station.
the very last episode of the first season of the TTRPG actual play podcast that I'm on is going to be recorded this upcoming Thursday, and schedule permitting i'm going to be running In Golden Flame for season 2
incredibly excited and also more than a little nervous
i've talked about this before but it turns out that recording a whole season of a podcast took much longer than I expected
who knew
if any of you know someone with prior podcasting experience who's played Lancer before and would be interested in an IGF actual play, let me know, because unless we can source someone with Lancer experience from within the network there will likely be a casting call for just that kind of person
Results of Combat :D
Ch3 ||The Monstrosity for [ERROR] :)||
FLASHING LIGHTS WARNING
one of our players just realized the ||Hardcastle shotgun's automatic reload can trigger their Raleigh's M35 MJOLNIR||. We're losing our fucking shit
WIP of my one of my IGF players. 😄
Yooooo
Our group is ||sparing the Thief!|| Proud of them
Can I kill you
I dunno, have you asked the Blacksmith?
thank you for this it caused me to actually choke on my food. i think the blacksmith has different ideas
"Oh no, another group of people are gonna start attacking us. What are we at, 5, now?" -Morgan
"You will all end up dead beneath my feet, I am the Ceaseless Wheel, fuck with me" -Fennel

Poor Morgan.
"I'm going to mark 1 on Something is Coming for the question you asked"
"That is the scariest thing you've ever said to me."

This session was FUCKED.
Remember to spoiler that kinda stuff
SHIT
||One of our players is premeditating murder on one of the other PCs. Its bad||
||Our players are actively deteriorating and will continue to do so until at least mission 5 starts||
||It's bad. It's bad. It's bad. It's bad.||
||So we're currently at a crossroads with one of our player characters having a completely fried amygdala, which has completely ruined their emotional control, to the point that they've lost all morality. Us as GMs, and all of our players are cool with this, but the our SRT is in a dire state and we all know that it's not exactly in character with IGF's tone. It appears that the fried brain character has to go, and the players are currently hashing out how that's going to happen.||
Oooh boy
Oho
Once again, the importance of saying 'Players' vs 'Player Characters' rears its head.
This was a very dramatic discord message until I read it twice : p
no bacon.
lol
||This might be the worst mission in the campaign for them. So far. And they have the fucking Boltzmann next||
They're gonna go in there and either die or come out as a polycule, no in-between.
OOPS
i missed the first instance of it
all of our players are mentally healthy I promise

||It's super epic fsntasy musicfor basically just a regular fight and I think this fight is best if you make everything ridiculously over the top. Like enemy names being super long and convoluted such as "ADULT RED DRAGON", "THE HIGH ILLUSIONIST OF THE SOUTHERN TOWERS" "PERILOUS BOGMIRE SCOURGE OF THE FEY REALM" and "SIR GALLAHAN, LEGALLY DISTINCT KNIGHT OF THE SQUARE TABLE". Is there anywhere I can find PNGs of the NPC portraits?
The best source is your own copy of the PDF. there's online tools that can extract the images for you. If you have photoshop, you can open the pdf with that and tell it to open "images only".
Many NPCs have been posted here on pilotnet by vex and r0xy, but in varying levels of quality and sometiems with backgrounds. Extracting from the PDF will givbe you consistent, transparent images
when I need a png, I just pop a screenshot in a background eraser app (because I don't have Photoshop)
it works well enough for my purposes
I can definitely vouch for pdf extraction. It has made my life so much easier
you can open them in LibreOffice as well (that's what I do)
I've used this webtool before to extract without having to install anythign, all in browser. https://pdfcandy.com/extract-images.html
If you've got a linux machine or the linux subsystem for windows, the poppler-utils package on apt has a tool for this, just run pdfimages -all <input.pdf> <output dir>, It's what I've done the last time I needed to do this sort of thing.
Ada you're a gift
She sure is! We treasure her dearly!
oh cool, I didn't even realize I had that package installed
images do get exported with their transparency as a separate mask, so do keep that in mind
oh right, you need imagemagick and can pass it through the convert program:
convert <extracted.png> <extracted-mask.png> -alpha off -compose copy-opacity -composite output.png
I don't remember the output names from pdfimages off the top of my head or I'd make this a oneliner
you specify them yourself, then it's like filename-000.<format>
or if you add -p for page number, it's filename-000-000.<format>
pdfimages -all "In Golden Flame Act 1.pdf" -p act1-out/image gave me a first file of act1-out/image-001-000.jpg

all ur base r belong to us
thx for the info
tell signal encryption doesnt help if they dont lock their terminal

pps signal is just as annoying in person
Me and my parter have been working on a pretty novel background for her PC: a Nestorian NHP specialist.
Use a righteous swarm on the villain
I'll probably put a more general LFG post about this later if I don't get any responses here but a couple of my players had to drop out of my mixed vc-text IGF game for unrelated scheduling reasons, so I'm looking for a replacement player. It runs weekly at: <t:1726923600:F> and we're currently near the start of mission 3. Thought I'd ask here first because getting someone who's already familiar with IGF's general setting would be easier get up to speed. Just DM me if you're interested. Found.
And now my whole group of 6 players is down to 2 for IGF act 2, yikes
Don't know what I will do now
I don't think I can even continue considering that ⅔ of the Players for Act 1 went away
But I will manage
Best of luck
TBF, ||BadStar|| deserves it.
The setting info in the first part of IGF act 1, when talking about the KTB, mentions members of the House of Glass who are in exile in Calliope after the fall of Creighton’s world.
Can anyone remind me… why? The KTB and HA are rivals/enemies so I’m confused as to why members of the House of Glass are in exile after their rivals took a devastating hit
Also is the Kingdom Aniline KTB?
yeah
The book has gotten an update, you may want to download it from itch again.
check the itch page and update your act 1 rulebook to the new one that got released in august
you'll find references on Act 1, pages 160 and 267
The Kingdom Aniline is now "House Aniline", preparing for changes in act 2
you dont need to know much past that until act 2, but if you need to know more you can find the act 2 drafts in #gm-corner's In Golden Flame Feedback thread
Cool cool cool… as for the House of Glass thing, is that a here question or a #lore-and-worldbuilding question?
Idk if this is an IGF specific thing or a Lancer setting thing
It's a result of their failure there in the war.
I don't have the book in front of me so take my specifics here with a grain of salt but it's def not just an IGF thing.
I don't think it's exclusively a House of Glass thing (although I think they got hit pretty bad in this regard) but basically the fighting there was a catastrophe for the KTB and a bunch of people lost their peerages over it.
Iirc (and I'll check this later, and I think its the semi canon that is the HA field guide draft lore) but JC1 secured his battle objectives (killing the high baron) by cracking the (inhabited) moon.
So while it's eventually a significant reason why JC1 ended up hanged and obviously a huge loss for the people living on the moon when JC1 rendered in uninhabitable, it wasn't exactly a good outcome for the KTB either, and the KTB went looking for scapegoats for their general abysmal conduct vs the first combat mechs in the war afterwards.
But I'll need to check this later, so grain of salt and all that.
i am.....
SO tempted.....
to name my gals genghis the "Crustacean Cremation Station"
Our Group tonight learned a little bit about Andros and Hell Hounds.
They rode kinetic projectiles through space to transport them!?!?!?
Damn
Hi I'd like to say that IGF is a lot of fun to play and thanks to everyone who worked on it and then running away from the channel before my own curiosity inevitably makes me click on a spoiler at some point
cheers
Btw we have a homebrew rule: If an enemy’s HP drop to -5 and lower, the pilot will be killed, or they can eject, maybe injured but can survive

I love them 💗
why do the fascists have to be baller as all hell 😔
One of the most important parts of Fascism is looking baller as hell
Not a joke
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aestheticization_of_politics
The aestheticization of politics was an idea first coined by critical theorist Walter Benjamin as being a key ingredient to fascist regimes. Benjamin said that fascism tends towards an aestheticization of politics, in the sense of a spectacle in which it allows the masses to express themselves without seeing their rights recognized, and without ...
Does the heat 8 from teh catastrophe beam apply from charging it (thus, before firing) or after it fires?

it's a part of the weapon profile, separate from the quick action needed before the attack
thanks, Ada!
im making a meme >:D
damn man i just scared him so bad he decided to go thermonuclear to try to kill me with him but that works too ig
So uh
we just got through Mission 1, ||Shoo The Vultures||
and ||Ipswitch, having tagged along against the players' will, kind of caused a few problems for the party in the fight by being in harm's way way too much for their liking||
so uh

just pure ||confusion and irritation boiling over from stress because of seeing someone needlessly make things more dangerous and risky||

(Spoilers for Missions 1 through 3) (reposting bc my dumbass forgor to spoiler)
I updated the pinned comment here #1059603134504255528 message There's now three publicly editable docs.
- In Golden Flame GM Resources - Original content for running games. Maps, guides, audio logs, tokens, anything people want to share. The sheet we know and love.
- IGF Music ideas - links to song suggestions for GMs to use while running. Pair with specific scenes or as general background music.
- People of Calliope - crowdsourced NPC ideas. Use when you need a name in a hurry, or maybe a whole character!
ooh
yeah
oh i can totally add some of my campaigns custom NPC blorbos into here
Oh yeah I'll add my musics
ahaha yes my circuit propaganda
I'm surprised that Contact With You didn't show up on the music sheet earlier.
Are there any spoilers in these docs? I have some ideas but I haven’t finished act I
Yeah, not explicit spoilers but npcs who might be for areas/scenes you might not have seen yet, or music for encounters and scenes from later chapters and acts.
Thank you for my life
How can we contribute to the Music and NPC sheets out of curiosity?
put music and NPCs in them
ok, NPCs added
Both spreadsheets are set up so anybody can edit the sheets. If you have something to add, just go for it :3
They have change tracking so if there's any vandalism issues or anything lemme know and I can fix things.
i'm organizing the music doc rn, too
Love how everyone is having a field day with the music doc right now
And the NPC doc too hot damn
I'm chuffed as hell to see them getting used tbh
I half wish they had a comment section or something so I could see people’s thoughts on certain recommendations
And so I could look at a recommendation I was gonna put that someone else got the jump on and yell “YOU!!!! 🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵”
there is a comment section on google docs, dunno how good it is to actually use like this. You can also attach comments and notes to individual cells, but it gets a bit annoying.
i need to find the other bug fables fan in this document and compare notes with them
May I suggest a 2nd tab for GMs to list their SRT, for reasons.
circuit members added... i'll add some of my other blorbos at some point
oh hey, i can just kinda do taht
I know some people have already been adding their SRTs so this is a great idea to make that more clear and separate.
YOU 🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵🫵
I have now added every MGR vocal boss track to the music ideas page somewhere
except I'm My Own Master Now I'm not sure if anything fits that one. ||Whatever happens with Panoptes|| in Act 3 maybe?
(I do plan to use it for ||the Orizaba|| my game but that's due to some changes I'm making to that fight based on one of my players' backstory)
If any of y’all want more info on my wack-ass Sparri mercs, feel free to ask.
I've only got one map left to make until I am done with Act 1...
How long would you all expect a new-ish group to get through In Golden Flame, in terms of a number of sessions?
my very rough estimate was 30-35
based on the number of combats
Depends a lot on the rp scene
Ada put their post-Act 1 statistics up. I think it was like forty something sessions
lets gooo session 1!!! ||One of my players is a trauma surgeon and, while addressing the injuries of a pirate ambush, is confronted with having to save a sunlighter, Calamity Havok, who was absolutely involved in said ambush||
Yeah. We're on over a year and still on mission 3
about a year of Jank College Student Scheduling™️ and we're at mission 5
Exactly, rp scene, rl circumstances and other things.
My group was new to lancer, spent a full session per combat, and extended more than a few narrative moments. Our downtimes were 2-3 sessions each.
We finished act 1 on our 41st session. Playing every other week with a few missed sessions, it took close to two years.
My party just got to the start of mission 3 and that's taken us about 3-4 months, with a session per combat and normally 1-2 narrative sessions per downtime (I also did some between session narrative stuff too).
thinking about a callsign list for each of the combats...
ooh, i could definitely pitch into that. my callsigns aren't the greatest but i have been giving each enemy a callsign
i give all my templated enemies callsigns
Ooh I'd love a callsign list.
with a couple vague themes - hell hounds get animal names, faithful get mythological/religious figures, ID (is going to?) get corporate jargon, circuit steals from sekiyo
This is a great idea not only because it will be a resource for gms but because it will let me share the dumb jokes I put in my call signs
I'd be down for a callsign list- I've been trying to come up with appropriately corporate callsigns for all the ID mechs
My group of newbies just entered Mission 4 downtime on session 16
could make it a third tab on the people of calliope sheets
you have to add According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyways. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. (Hornet)
okay so it seems like 35 sessions was a reasonable rough estimate
found it super amusing that the OST recommendations sheet has more songs for ||Send in the Clowns|| than for ||Killer Sound||
i can set it up right now
Oh hell yeah, thanks to whoever put this here 😎
Ok so I want opinions on a remaster for ||face to a name||
At the moment, ||I want these to be landing bays because it's partially constructed docking bay but now I'm double guessing the difference between hangar and docking bay... I want the distance between the players and to be the vertical cos it would just take ages for the players to and enemies to get to each other... But then the outer thirds of the map just won't be used...||
||So I'm conflicted on what should remain in the center of the map and what should the room should actually look like... OFC under construction which in my head means difficult terrain and maybe even hazardous. With lots of opportunities to run pipes around the place for the sake of emitting steam||
I require people to lend me their brainwaves and thinks 🧠 I require creative freedoms
"I should add some size half cover in case there's..." ||checks roster, no size half enemies. Players are LL0. GMS only...|| "Nvm"
Fuck it we ball I'm adding forklifts
but are the players forklift certified?
🤔
By Calliope standards probably
"Can you pilot a forklift?"
"Good enough, you're certified until you're not"
"its been 20 minutes since you crashed it; i think that certification enough"
Calling it here for map making for tonight... IDK if I'm happy how this is turning out? Looks a bit like a mess and doesn't make me think ||tachyon...|| want opinions...
Outlines = where cover is/will be, big area in the center is difficult terrain
hmm, it gives me calliope energy but yeah, not very ||Tachyon|| imo.
I like the map, it's something I'd want to use. Just not for that fight.
It's a challenge of making, lancer map first. Making it fit after
I think I'll have to start from the top... but it's quite hard to get a good balance of:
||- Making a cluttered docking bay for it to be a good lancer map
- making it neat and orderly
- having pipes and Vents for the environmental conditions||
||the pipes and vents seem like the natural solution as to how to get more cover or difficult terrain into the map, rather than just making the place more cluttered||
Question about ||Act 1 Mission 2's investigation. So, for the Balor team, leads lead to 3 places: Deepest Fairyland, the Cult's Warehouses, and the Grant Aurora Amphitheater. Do the Warehouses lead to the Amphitheater or...?||
to ||deepest fairyland||
||Faith of the One Warehouse -> Casino -> Deepest Fairyland. Really the warehouses themselves aren't actually important except that they show that bondarchuk has a link to the cult||
||Hmm… geographically that doesn’t make sense to me. Not a fan. I’m gonna make the Warehouse empty-ish and have it have clues to Killer Sound||
||With how all the laser components for the laser were shipped to the Warehouses in order to be assembled in the Amphitheater for Killer Sound it makes more sense for the Warehouse to be a middle ground imo||
Being a GM does that
our lobby screen is fucked
your lobby screen look like it would fit perfectly in either a megaman or yugioh themed game

incredibly cursed idea: SheIsPleasure
oh no
please god spare me from that

the joke was also meant to be that ||SheIsPleasure is one of the drivetrain chat members||
||so there's a whole connection there||
I wonder if one of my players will notice that
Our group is made up of overworked 1 financial practitioner , 1 didn’t tell us details but some white-collar worker, 1 master of music student 1 STEM master student, and 1 STEM undergraduate, just 1 guy is not so busy
We had 1.5 years at the end of mission 3 because we only run the game weekly for about 3 hrs
No IGF this week because the finance guy, aka the GM, need to work overtime this week
I don't have a lot of experience w/ this sort of thing, but maybe more of the cover pieces should resemble structural elements of the bay, rather than discrete pieces of equipment/crates.
Mmm yeah that's a good shout... just harder as there's no default assets for them
Session ???: ||Killer Sound and Epilogue||
I'm gonna start categorizing tthings based on Beats instead of actual session times, since timing's been wonky.
||Combat: Killer Sound.
Once again, the crew has decided to choose violence. However, I got real damn close to actually taking someone right the fuck out. Yon decided to travel up the map to the land of fucking Narnia early on, and then got basically chain bullied by several of my powermetal band mechs.
Roselore did the smart thing as combat moved on, and was making sure to scan control zones in order to try and figure out which one was actually the correct home to hunker down and find the array. She started around the right side, finding nothing.
The true CZ was actually the one immediately to the left of where the players started (I rolled a D4 to pick). But, all it took to throw some doubt into the mix, and make people thing it was a different location, was to have the Hives dropping Razor Swarms on a false zone. Which led to everyone crossing the map to try and clear people out.
Enter the Aegis and a second hive, who snuck around behind, and threw down both a defense net, a razor swarm, and even covered a chokepoint itself on getting into the actual control zone. The only reasin it wasn't checked by Ringabel was due to her desire to save her teammate from getting gagglefucked by several different mechs,
My joy at this successful ruse was short-lived, as the Crew proceeded to descend upon my toys like a horde of angry vent crabs hungry for nesting materials. The expected result happened.
Combat: Killer Sound: Complete Succcess.||
||So How'd We Do?~
The crew obtained a full success on the entire mission, and as such, did not need to do Getting Railroaded, or Powerhouse. I know there are options to run them anyways, but, the players were also getting bored of their Everest mechs. As such, we have since moved on, and went to two main things: Downtimes, and Mech Aquisitions.
First off, Mechs!
-Ringabel ran into a contact for Mikaela on an SSC showroom floor, and they were so pleased about their contact, that they offered to buy the data on the Firegate that was spotted. In exchange, they got to hop into a shiny new Metalmark.
-Roselore obtained a used Stortebeker license from the fighting rings, who coincidentally used a similar colourscheme to Roselore's own Red/White scheme, so keeping that scheme is real simple.
-Yon had some words with Loki, who made special effort to offer Yon an HA license, rather than asking Alisha what she should get. Ultimately though, poor Yon is still so conditioned by this woman that she ultimately settled on the Barbarossa. I'm sure she'll break her shackles on day...
-Lorelei took note that Switch (The Technophile NHP, not Delacey) was picking up on weird signals just, permeating areas of the Icebreaker. Eventually, after zeroing in on the signal, they found a horrifying set of frame data, simply known as 'Terra Kite', and as such, gets to enjoy her new Pegasus.
-And Farvicule discovered that, in the layover for exiting the system, S1GN4L was onboard the Icebreaker, and bribed him with a specific file he had known as '5P00KYD4V3.lcp'. He had an opportunity to space him. He could have. It would have been so easy... But ultimately Farvicule stayed his hand, and did not give into these bizarre misfiring impulses. Farvicule now pilots a Calendula Spooky Dave.||
||And now, Downtimes!
Both Roselore -and- Ringabel tried their hands in the mech arenas. However, their careers are relatively short lived, and have only both ticked 3 segments each. I'm sure they'll return eventually. Ringabel went for the Futurama 'I am a weird foreigner! Look at my strange passport! angle of being a weird fighter, whereas Roselore was triyng to uphold the honour of the former Storebeker's owner.
Farvicule went drinking wtih the crew, asking them if they'd ever felt like they weren't fully in control of themselves, and if they felt like they were meant to be someone else. The crew has since reassured our weird gremlin boy that he is who he chooses to be, despite the weirdness of the printing mech. He's also lost that weird black crystal that he found way early on, which went into the making of Dark Ember, the name of his new mech.
Lorelei actually decided to go for scavenging back home in Hell's gate. In securing some union friends from the Borealis, she's gained some good connections here and there, while having also found a skip that got nearlighted into something... Dijon Mustard indeed.
And then there's Yon. Who had Alisha go for an absurd rank pull with Loki, requisitioning a Harrison Armory Core Battery (Proper Lancer Reserves). Since core Batteries are an absurdly powerful reserve, this was treated as a Power at a Cost that in fact, cost the downtime. Loki seemed all too happy to file this anyways, as it would mean pissing off Odin just that little bit more, and allowing him to exercise that little bit more control in his life over that blowhard braggard.
I'm sure nothing bad will come of this...
Oh, and when the Crew returned to Hell's Gate, Delacey showed up in order to ask for an interview. Most refused.
Roselore reminded Delacey of his lactose intolerance (Which i guess is canon now in this universe) but he's got Hell's Gate quality lactaid for that
And then Lorelei stepped forward to give one answer to the question 'What went down'. One simple word. "Cultists"
She was then dragged away from the interview.
Next update: Surprise Surprise, and maybe Asphodel?||
||Oh, and Yon took the Catastrophe Beam||
did someone say ||Catastrophe Beam???||
(I had a lot of fun making this for my Metalmark player)
Do you have a module you're using to set up cover? I realized I need to be giving the cover HP, it'd be nice to do that with a foundry module
counting cover HP
(99% of the time anything is hitting cover in my game there's no point counting)
That's why I want to do it automatically instead of counting it myself
Fuck counting it myself
I guess blast and burst weapons with a radius should theoretically be damaging cover, but I also can barely get through 4 turns in 3.5-4 hours of playing much less an entire "full length" combat
Point of Clarity for the ||Catastrophe Beam||
||Does Firing and charging cause the 8 Heat or just one of them||
(Compcon caused both)
personally I make deployable-type actors in foundry and set up their HP / armor/ eva so they can be targeted automatically by AoE templates. The Lancer QoL module gives them a nice fiery glow if they take burn, reminding me to tick their HP each round. It hasn't come up more than a handful of fights during our entire act 1 run, but I think it adds some verisimilitude and when it is relevant it's interesting.
||Just firing ||
||I whiffed Prying claws 😭 ||
We also had a spicy thing happen to change the structure of this combat
||We got an Apoc 1 and two Catastrophe Beam shots||
I set up tokens under the Deployable type for cover of Size Half, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 so I can use them as needed
When I import a map into Foundry i use the polygon/line tool to manually create a border around every single piece of cover
. Then I ctrl c ctrl v all the cover objects into place
we're just ignoring that these barbarossa shots have been in Player v. Player
Oh and for the "special" cover types I use game-icons.net to get myself some symbols for like, half-shields or for warning symbols on shit that explodes
Wait what
don't worry about it
no, i'm definitely worried about it
20 GOTO 10
Roxy did the final member of my SRT! Finally I can put together a group photo.
Niiice.
The whole gang!
I wanna make the ||Veteran Support (w/ Vipers Speed and Latch Drone)|| from ||A Face to a Name|| appear again in Chapter 2, are there any combats they can appear in that won’t skew things too badly?
I have a 3 player group who have thus far taken a level in Death’s Head, Zheng, and Orchis respectively, and they’re kinda new so just FYI
Also, in what ways should I try to incorporate the Militia Readiness, Station Stability, and Cult Influence clocks outside of narrative moments?
I want the clocks to have payoff outside of just the designated narrative moments so the players can reap some minor mechanical bonuses from paying attention to them. Have it be an ongoing thing rather than just "build it up over the entire campaign rather than just have it payoff once"
All three clocks can be consulted in narrative play to look at how Hell's Gate is doing.
With high Station Stability, stuff on the station is less broken, the standard of living is a bit higher, people are generally better off and Jerry is getting more sleep.
Militia Readiness is kind of hard to consult but at extremely high levels (like, 7/8 or 8/8) I'd be inclined to give players more reserves relating to the militia, for example, the SRT gets a couple of scouts attached to the team to give a couple Scouting reserves or something. If your players interact with the militia a lot, you can make it a point that at high levels on the clock they'll find the militia with better equipment, more numbers, more people, etc.
Cult Influence can be shown narratively quite easily. At high levels, cult stuff starts happening. A couple people disappear, places where the Faith worships fill up, stuff like that
tbf you could always pull something out of a fight to make room for them (although tbh I think they would narratively fit better to show up in chapter 3)
Cult influence making a certain enemy faith coded or an extra NPC from the cult come in to muck up the fight is always a classic I do.
The thing is the Support is ||secretly supposed to be a member of the Cult of One, hence wanting to drop them in Chapter 2||
(shared with permission) one of our players has had a conspiracy board in their notebook
thats how my notes look thats for sure
its really fun to see our players make weird connections between stuff and make wild uncertain guesses. and when they get stuff right
notably:
||Death & rebirth not connected to The One Plumed In Golden Flame, or the Cult, and neither is Feather - I think they don't know about Feather's involvement in the story at all right now. I think they think Feather's just vibing somewhere in Calliope completely unrelated to the Cult
Why is Feather connected to the Shan family
Ignatius Aurum connected to Death & Rebirth||
Jerry's Sleep Schedule Status: [MISSING]
I love seeing how universal the conspiracy boards are in IGF campaigns. Each group has the one pepe silvia moment
So, important question: I’m gonna start running this in a month or two, and I wanna get in the groove. Apart from the obvious genre touchstones and the suggestions from the front, any media you can suggest to get that “schmucks doing what nobody else will” vibe going?
You want some good music to establish vibe and town. I recommend some tracks from the bastion ost for hells gate and furnace city. Plus, watch letter Kenny. It's a direct inspiration from Vex herself on misfit town pulling together.
Also borderlands 1, big inspiration there too
Oh, naturally. I got everything Vex specifically mentioned on my watchlist. I was asking for more specific, personal inspirations — things you’ve personally reached out towards for your own spins on your campaigns.
Hmm, I would have to resort back to supergiant games with their game Pyre, while the found family aspect of igf isn't a main theme it very much a sub theme within the game. Plus their music just fits too well in this setting.
I like listening to Wasteland 3's OST to get into the mood for our campaign.
The Expanse, at times anyway, was a big inspiration for me/a few scenes in the one game I'm in. It has the found family vibe and some of the fuck ups facing the universe together vibe too.
My group is only like 4-5 sessions in to our run of IGF and one of my fellow players already is making her own conspiracy notes
The channel actually has a music suggestion spreadsheet if you wanna look at that!
Also one of the first sections of the book has an inspirations section you can refer to
Oh, neat. I’m already going hard with Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s soundtrack, but the more the merrier.
Hey if it’s not there you can always add to the spreadsheet yourself!
Would share if I had 'em on hand 😔
May ask my fellow player later if I get a moment
Totally fair!
Yet another one of my players dropped out 😔
But I was going through backstory with their replacement player and ladies and gentlemen we got them.
[late act 1 spoilers] ||They suggested their character be related to Jerry and came looking for them. I said that wasn't possible but how about they be related to a certain former DoJ/HR Liberator officer (without spoiling the connection) and this was their response||
that's the best energy, especially for folks replacing others mid campaign
Also god I need to become better at reading adventures, I swear everytime I read the book I pickup on at least 1 important detail that I totally missed the last time (not to mention around 5-10 things that are not that important but I still missed)
mood (it always takes a reread or two)
God yeah its always crushing when a player drops. I even have trouble replacing a PC sometimes
I'm on my 5th and I just understood ||Feather's|| whole deal (last time it was ||Jerry's|| backstory that I also totally missed) - I might need to print it instead of just reading the PDF, maybe that'd help
I just had 3 drop in two weeks (tbf it was all very clearly over very real scheduling issues rather than anything else so that helps, and I was already 1 person over what I wanted to play with to begin with)
On the bright side I really enjoy going through new players' backstories and integrating them so that helps.
Wren writing peak? Must be another day ending in y
Just had an amazing session ||investigating the Tachyon||
two of my players are physics people (one graduated, one currently doing physics degree) and before session 0 it was fun talking to the one doing the degree talking about lancer and ||FTL and stuff and they were like "yeah FTL bullshit is stupid and wack" then I throw the Tachyon at them which does the exact bullshit they said it would rather than what other sci-fi settings do. Then when they all saw the tachyon they were like "Ok that art is cool" once they figured out what the fuck was ggoing on and were all SO INTERESTED and NEEDED to find out what was going on. They saught out the black box before I stated it was an option and I am so happy for that, they were theory crafting all the way through and the investigation and wack shit of the tachyon SPOOKED THEM||
Problem is ||Now they believe what will happen in the next fight is they're gonna be fighting Capella then they believe Feather is going to manifest mid fight and fuck shit up...||
Which TBH is funnny
Also I think I've played Striga well enough that one of my players has set Striga to their desktop background
Dunno how I did that
Me and my group also went through the ||Tachyon|| this week and I had to change a lot of stuff because they were scared as all hell. They had an IC (and I believe also
indirectly OOC) discussion regarding the consequences for Hell's Gate if they fully refused to ||enter the damn ship|| and just fucked off - the newest player settled the debate by saying "if my last five minutes are getting that thing then I die a legend" and it honestly made me real fucking proud
I did make them go through hell inside though - when ||Capella|| showed up they were relieved, and that's saying something.
I did allow my NHP-obsessed mech-truck-driver player to interact slightly with ||Feather|| on the ship, made for a really touching scene when they almost bonded and then ||Capella||'s arrival spooked them and ||the ship started to self destruct||
Oooh, I wanna go for Chapter 1 stories!
||So because my players had some really rough first 2 combats, I gave one of them a temporary Smartgun they could use until the end of the mission. I tried doing some flavor with the Smartgun having some form of pseudo-sapience and, on the Tachyon, clicking as if trying to fire in some areas. What I should’ve expected was for one of my players to try and fire it. So- I made the bullets it fired lead the way to the NHP bay, where the feather ghost showed up and made the Smartgun scream. Needless to say all the stuff going on freaked them the fuck out.||
Thats awesome and a very interesting idea! Jumpscare lol
Well, Hell's Gate and the first two beats were kind of chill and fun, I tried to make the npcs like Borderlands - tragic and comical, but mostly on the funny side.
Then came ||the Weasel|| and it shifted. One of my players mentioned it was like that point in Mulan where theyre singing and then they reach the burned down village and they don't sing again for the rest of the movie.
They spent a long time exploring the Weasel and everything inside (a good opportunity to give them some custom equipment) and I kept comparing everything to ||Alien and the Weasel to the Nostromo|| and that had them freaking out. When they ||opened the hull of the Tachyon and saw the subalterns pointing their guns to the inside of the ship||, they made a full stop and talked for around irl 30 minutes.
They were still extremely spooked and the rest of the session was full of spooky shit, but by then they knew it was coming. I also treated ||the Tachyon as still being "haunted" by a lingering presence of Feather, which is why stuff was still all fucked up and paranormal|| which made for a great scene as they thought they had something following them closely just waiting to pounce on them. ||When they saw the NHP room and the floating dead body on the print room they went NOPE and tried running away, except for one of my players that started trying to talk to them and gave us a cool little scene of Feather not being a full monster before Capella arrived and it all went to hell.||
Describing the stuff on the ||Weasel|| in detail I think made a huge difference. ||Weird dead broken ship with mysterious research whose crew died in either violent or mysterious ways|| was very effective at establishing a horror session
I should actually give a rundown of how I introduced my other new replacement player. For context, the party had just got to [mission 2]||the asphodel exploration when they were introduced||.
[Act 2 spoilers and tw for human trafficking stuff]||Their character backstory was, when they were a kid the mid-agricultural revolution world they were on was "integrated" into the Purview and a corrupt low-mid ranking HA officer tricked them into getting sold into space slavery so he could make a quick buck. Anyway eventually, passing through several owners, their character ends up owned by one of Roderick Steele's flunkies who uses him to do odd jobs, including some of the worst vent crawling jobs. Anyway, he secretly find an old abandoned and fucked up clone of pre-Steele Panoptes that was lost during the strikebreak and following reorganisation.||
||Then at some point some of the IDPD find him alone on one of his jobs and threaten him with deportation (or just getting beaten to death and chucked out of an airlock) if he doesn't go and steal an unattended mech belonging to an IDES member. Against everyone's expectations, he actually successfully does it, and when the IDES member goes to kill his ass, his owner intervenes (solely because he wants an excuse to fuck with IDES, not because he gives a shit about his slaves). Unfortunately he then gets sent down with his stolen mech to help defend the Dome but IDES (who I believe know about the party coming to kick the dome's ass because they're more competent than Steele's people - right hand just deliberately isn't talking to left hand there) privately feed him their projections of the party's route and lie through their teeth that he could take on the party solo (and him being a slave from a technologically primitive backwater with no experience in mech combat, he believes them) in order to get him killed. Naturally he just joins the party instead lul.||
which is to say, ||Yay I get to introduce dysfunctional act 2 ID politics early!||
the coming from a low tech world makes it extra fucked up. That experience is literally all they've had since leaving their homeworld, it's all they know of life in the stars.
I'm surprised you didn't squeeze some ||Nestor|| info in there
nah they specifically wanted to come from agricultural revolution setting, I was adopting their character concept.
Ah, fair.
One petty officer doing that seems wildly out of line, even for HA standards
oh yeah that's super illegal on their part
like, that's not HA being shitty, that's that guy being a criminal.
if their superior officers ever found out it'd be jail for them for certain
HA isn't the primary evil faction in their backstory (although I am going to introduce said petty officer in act 2)
if there's any institutional issues there it's a vague laxity in the supervision that his superiors should be doing, and HA society providing incentives for wealth and power more than morality.
him and friends yeah.
if anything the only reason I kept him a HA officer rather than some third party is that introducing him ||as one of the troublemakers assigned to the Michael Ney would be a brutal scene||
Truuuue, ||Our party in act 2 just got to realize that as we are knee deep in the HA Arc||
Session: ||Wrecking Fields and Surprise, Surprise||
Mild CW for trauma response and character death.
||Our crew finds themselves out in the debris field around Stygia, searching for the abducted militia and civilian members, with some minor confusion and thinking that 'civilian mechs' meant subalterns for a moment. That was cleared up rather quickly.
We entered the wrecked ship and found L-Kay, and luckily, no one fell for the trap. For the sake of trying to make it an actual combat, I treated the map as being in zero G, but gave the enemy mechs baseline Spacer traits, which meant that some party members were Slowed, while the enemies had free movement...
... But
This is my lancer group we're talking about. The Elite Berserker was deleted in round 1 by a horrifying mixture of Lorelei's Terror Killer's (Pegasus) unholy amount of Ushabti Omnigunning and smartgun shenanigans, and being sent to the shadow realm because of Farvicule's Dark Ember (Calendula Spooky Dave). That corpse was left at the end of the universe, and Terror Killer returned to scare another day.
Yon meanwhile simply began charign the weapons on board the Harrison Anti-Fortress Armament - eXperimental MK 1: Destroy (Barbarossa, henceforth referred to as Destroy). They have both the Catastrophe Beam from Mission 2 and of course, the Apoc Rail.
Spoiler warning: Someone's day is going to be wrecked by this thing at a full charge.
Anasthesia (Roselore's Stortebeker) and Noise (Ringabel's Metalmark) mainly got into position and harassed an archer. The archer isn't dead, just bothered.
We get into some reinforcements, and one might thing 'Well, maybe the Demolisher will soften things up.' To which I look at the smoldering crater of space left by the Catastrophe Beam firing, and go 'What Demolisher'
They also rebooted L-Kay's mech, in order to facilitate her own departure from the ship. We are only two rounds into combat, and half of my fighting force is dead or crippled (The archer got an unlucky weapon systems break)
Again. My crew seems stupidly hypercompetent.
So, I threw a wrench into this combat.||
|| Upon ending one round, taking into account that HA members all have a subdermal implant (established in Mission 2 thanks to Nyambose), I took a moment to tell Yon that the light in her mech next to the pilot light was out - a little sensor that picks up on Alisha Daryl's own implant. In all the hubub of combat, she hadn't even noticed that it didn't even turn on on launch.
And then she realized that it had been about 48 hours since she'd last seen Alisha. Tier 3 Empath allowed for a mini systems brainsweep, and confirmed that, amidst the minds she could touch, she could not find Alisha.
Her handler/maternal figure was no more.
She handled this about as well as you'd expect, being a traumatized, and experimented upon child inside several tons of steel and armor plating: Turning around, and making a run for the Dragon's Tooth. Someone was going to pay for this. Hell's Gate was potentially going to burn.
The combat split, with players being able to either continue contributing to the primary combat, or they could flip to the other map, and contribute to the new 'Stop Yon' clock, operating on the same logic as the Panic/Hype Clock from Killer Sound: If it fills, the Destroy gets shut down. If it empties, Yon escapes on board the dragon's tooth, and flies back to hell's gate to avenge her 'mother' (By which I mean: Knock off two station stability because Apoc Rail)
Roselore and Ringabel opted to stay with L-Kay in order to deal with the remaining reinforcements. Everyone's popped their core powers, so everyone is firing on all cylinders. Parts are flying, systems are failing. The Assassin proved quite capable, and was able to start striking some prone people, but sadly, never got their leap back, so couldn't do it again.
Meanwhile, Lorelei tried to approach Yon to calm her down, and apparently thought the best way to do that was plinking her with the Ushabti. Because what better way to try and calm down a pilot having a panic attack than damaging the fortress they've wrapped themselves up in where they can feel truly safe from the world.
Yon responded to the ushabti plinks in kind. By using the Core battery I gave her last session in an unlicensed way, and only this once (because she wanted to have a cool moment) - to let her set the charge to 1, and fire the rail.
Terror Killer took this on the chin, and i got to feel a horrible premonition as I realized how many of my future toys would get hit by the Destroy Cannon.
Farvicule entered, and took this time to first try and fish Lorelei out of the wreckage, but didn't pull her out far enough, so she continued to sit in the smoldering wreckage of fire and brimstone brought on by mankind's worst weapon. So instead, he took the opportunity to steal Yon's attention away from the lurking mech, and keep her attention on him. Tauniting her, calling her out on her bullshit, etc.
Terror Killer emerged from the smoldering wreckage some moments later like some kind of dbz villain, and finished dismantling the Destroy piece by piece with several more ushabti shots and other shenanigans.||
||In the post combat wrapup, Switch (The NHP) made one thing very clear to Yon: If she ever turned her weapons on the crew again, they would do everything in their power to make sure that Yon would feel nothing but loneliness for the rest of her life.
Some of the other combatants were captured, and spoken to. They revealed their situation, brought up why things were desperate for them, and also that the primary reason for them even considering taking on Steele's work was just because they were starving, desperate, and out of work.
Farvicule then made them an offer: Work for him. They'll still not be allowed onboard Hell's Gate, but if they do the work requested while hovering outside, then Farvicule will make sure they're fed.
After some hemming and hawing, one of them (Who I gave the callsign Libra) snapped a salute, and declared 'You got it Bossman', with the others performing likewise.
Next time: Furnace City.||

I gave the combat participants zodiac callsigns so.
@carmine isle Hey just thought I'd let you know, I think your link in the IGF resources document for your custom tokens got accidentally overridden by the link below it. Just thought I'd update you on that
I fixed it
@tame tide Hey quick question: ||how did you get the tiles of the anti-capital assets to align with the grid? For the life of me I can't even do it poorly, they're always trying to center themselves on the edges of the grid tiles rather than the center||
Also how do you give tokens colored backgrounds like that? that seems really helpful
Tickbox in V10 foundry
I haven't updated yet and cos I couldn't find it that was one of the reasons why
But I held shift when placing them
||I was going over some of the lore with my partner the other day and she asked "wait, if they have tachyon weapons, why don't they have true ftl?"
And I had to just be like "uh... just put a pin in that one for now honey"||
haha!
Ah shit I’m on v11 😔
"The last thing you want to see as your mom's muse handle" read this in the Chills voice
Pfff, hi vex. ||The great betrayal will be soon ||
Ominous
Disney villains mom mindset
||Well the difference between a Tachyon Projectile and a Tachyon Ship is that you don’t expect one of those to survive the journey||
||Just cause you can make something go faster than light doesn’t mean you know how to make it survive the journey. It’s like how we have nuclear fusion bombs but no nuclear fusion engines yet. It’s possible to use it uncontrollably as a weapon, but no one knows how to use it for actual commercial or civilian operations||
||and for the record, the tachyon projectile was born out of a (failed) project to make a tachyon ship. It's not like they were unaware of the applicability of the tech in ftl travel before weaponising it, rather it was quite the contrary.||
||the reason they don't have true ftl was because they tried to get to it to work for that first and explicitly failed. ||
ooh, which one?
||Bondarchuk is going to betray her child with is one of the PC's in the next session.||
I might have a date set for my group's session 1 next week, and I've been thinking of how I want to structure it. I already had a false start w/ IGF last year with 3/4 of these players and I want to open in a different way than last time ||(yes I will be referencing that failed first session if and when they get to chapter 4)||
I'm thinking I want to try to cold open right into beat 2 in Jerry's office, then flash back to what each PC was doing the night the printer broke.
||The actual character responsible for breaking the printer is going to be a player's technophile NHP, but I'm going to find a way to implicate all the other members of the team in a way that might make them think twice before ratting the little guy out.||
Solid way to do it
I had a FANTASTIC first round of combat with ||Killer Sound. So I spent way too much time setting the lighting up for that so I’m super happy my players went there first. One of my players is interested in joining the Hellfire league and networked with Howl a bit, so now they have an agent. As such I allowed them to start the panic/hype clock at 5 instead of 4 as DJ E-Z McFear introduced him. Then, because he’s Pankrati Zheng, he turned on his core power, rushed up (since Pankrati is all about sport fighting I let it tick up Panic/Hype), and proceeded to show why the Tiger Hunter Combat Sheath is actually fucken busted as he beat the ever living shit out of the Sentinel and Engineer and maxed out the clock from a crit. It was crazy!||
||Rest of the team is doing pretty great, enjoying their new licensed equipment thoroughly||
||They’ve actually done some crazy damage thus far. But I’m not gonna add reinforcements. Recon Sitreps make it so that even one enemy left standing by the 6th round can ruin everything||
Hell yeah, keep it up Squared!
**IGF prompt: **If IGF is a TV serie or anime or something, in your opinion what are the opening songs and ending songs for each mission? Regardless of the genre of music, in fact many anime actually use existing classic rock music. Plz || every single mission.
Something heavily inspired by The Expanse opening feels right to me - big focus on where everything in the Calliope system is, gives the viewers a sense of scale and place
As for music to go with it, (unpopular opinion ahead) ||Something in the vien of Star Trek: Enterprise's Faith of the Heart feels right||
Is there any sort of community-accepted art for the minor/additional NPCs like "Al" Barton or Tarnveer Malik? Discord search for images is kind of bad with not being able to restrict it to specific forum threads.
some of them are based on early pcs who are active in this server, so there is art for them by proxy there but on the whole, no not really.
I don't believe that there's any unified art collection.

Tarben Makali has art here, but it's probably not what you'd expect. It's more like art of the character who's name got given to the murdered census taker. #909574961931362365 message (warning, act 2 spoiler thread link)
I have art for Kraken (pg74) and Pear Bradford (pg160). I can provide those separately later when I'm off work, but I posted them in a group shot with Calamity Havok, Gabriel Sparrow, and Siren over here: #1059603134504255528 message
I actually found a Foundry Module that helps fix this in v11, Better Hex Tiles. If possible, I'd edit the readme for Anti-Capital to include that if you could ^^
I may have been too hasty that didn't help much ._.
It helped a little but not much
The tiles in the art pack are way bigger than the hexes is what I'm realizing
Maybe I need to size up the hexes?
It seems everything needs to be scaled to 0.85 its size from the looks of it, not just platform 18
Thanks, appreciate it!
Hey @tame tide for ||Send in the Clowns, where did you put the smoke machines?||

Wow that's REALLY nice - I tend to spend a couple hours whipping stuff up in Inkarnate

In Shining Glamour
So, we had to cover a few things first and foremost. Namely, Ringabel tried to have some words with Yon about her freakout. Yon, however, was damn near catatonic, and stayed in the brig. Farvicule had some words with the assorted Hell Hounds that he'd spared, namely setting terms of their 'employment', namely being 'if you harm a single member of Hell's Gate, you will go out an airlock'. He also asked why these three hopped into a mech the first time, the answers being Money, Vengeance, and 'Because its fun'. Luckily, these answers weren't 'to be a bully' or 'to show off' so, they passed Farvicule's vibe check.
He also insisted they not refer to him as 'Bossman'
Shortly after returning to Hell's Gate, we had out meeting with the Knights of the Dark Core. And yes, shortly after Elske's entrance, Farvicule turned to Virgo to say 'So remember what I said about showing off?' The meeting with her and Jerry went fairly well, (no one asked about her title of Mistress though :< ) and it was pointed out that, since Roselore was born on Asphodel, that should make transit easier, and indeed, it meant a bit less work for Elske.
Farvicule had a word with Jerry afterwards, asking for some form of amnesty or reform for ex Hell Hounds, especially given that Andros is dead, and it was shown just how desperate some of them are getting. While Farvicule has sway, and is well-respected in Hell's Gate, this request is one that warranted a 'Please give me time to think on this.'
Lorelei also had a moment with Striga, shouting about evil vent crabs after emerging from 'a machine that physically should not even have a way to enter it much less exit' according to the player. Which, point of order, whenever Striga appears, I always ask Lorelei's player 'Where does she emerge from?' Lorelei though, still riding a little bit of the high of surviving a hit from the Apocalypse Rail, asked 'If, hypothetically, you nearly died, and found that you liked it... what would you do?' And in a moment of weird clarity, Striga's response was 'Talk to a priest' and then exited through the impossible machine.||
||The Only City
Enroute to the planet, we had a flashback, in place of Yon having some private therapeutic sessions with Siren.
Some time before, Alisha Daryls received a message from one Odin Valentien. He's learned of how Alisha has been taking too much of the reigns for the Hercynia Project: Subject #5. Every requisition form for weapon licenses was thumbprinted by Alisha, instead of the pilot, when, muted and conditioned as she was, Yon was to be the one making those decisions. Requisitioning an HA core battery from the limited supplies in Calliope and framing that as something Loki wanted was the last straw.
“Effective upon receipt of this message, the ongoing funding from HA, your position in the project and your employment status within the Armory are terminated. You can expect your severance package in 6 years when it arrives. Thank you for your service, and enjoy living in Calliope.”
She was not happy with this, and one of her last acts with Yon, was hoping to condition her just that -little- bit more to be only too trigger happy and point this ship cannon at Odin one day.
On approach to Asphodel, Farvicule was confused as hell by this place, making claims of 'the capacitors are failing' on account of the lightning. Farvicule has never experienced weather. Or even real gravity for that matter. The poor guy.
They were welcomed into the city, and rather swiftly brought to Canaan Zhou's offices, to discuss their plan of attack. One suggestion was made by Roselore that, as they are all established pilots in Calliope, what if they dismantled the dome from the inside, and offered themselves up to Steele as bait. This was shot down for the simple fact that, as this party is, indeed, well known throughout the system, Steele doesn't want anything to do with them, especially after they dinged the penile sword back in session 1.
The matter of the laser came up.
Zhou: “We do not have the firepower to take that thing out, and any approach would be taken out.
Ringabel: “Firepower you say.”
Sere, Internally: “Yes... YESSSS...”
Farvicule: “We do have a Barbarossa...”
Sere, still internally: “YES... YESSSSSSSS!!!”
Yon's player: “At present, Yon is still in a catatonic state of not wanting to get in the robot shinji”
Sere, almost externally: “NO! GET IN THE FUCKING ROBOT!”
So now came the matter... of how the team was going to approach the Steele dome.||

Last Beat of the sesh in two posts cause hoo boy
||**Walk and Talk, Buddy
We gave each player a scene to find these things, and sort out how they were going to work on the trek.
We started with Roselore, who, having family on Asphodel, went to see her dad (Teddy), and grandmother(Brimstone). The primary purpose, mechanics-wise, was to just get a guide, or at least information. This still turned into a rather thoughtful scene, the moment Brimstone simply asked 'What's eating you”
The two had a heart-to-heart. Roselore primarily bringing up that she doesn't feel safe with her teammates, as multiple sorties, and three (including this one) missions have led to almost as much infighting and harm coming their way as they've inflicted. She described her teammates as, in order, 'A murderous wildcard, a hacker wildcard, a weird flashclone wildcard, and Farvicule.' Brimstone, having been a pilot some time ago, was able to cut through some of the bullshit. 'Infighting's common, you're going through some growing pains' 'I didn't know Spider's name until our eighth sortie, but boy did I know his fist,' and just overall trying to be an understanding grandmother about the situation. Ultimately, it culminated in an offer: If, after Roselore has finisheed this mission with her teammates, she still feels that there is not a single chance of redemption for any of them, Brimstone will see what she can do to get Roselore's medical practise moved to Furnace City, and she can leave these days of mech piloting behind her.
- Guide Counter Added
Meanwhile, Fire Team Fun Size (who indeed, got matching FTFS tattoos while on the Icebreaker, Ringabel had her put underneath her barcode, while Farvicule got it as a tasteful tramp stamp) had a miniature tee-up scene of the two of them in a pub, trying to figure out what to do about the laser. Napkin math with crayons (from the Farvicule pocket labeled 'snacks') was involved. Culminating in the line '... I don't think we need to use the Tooth for this, I think we can just take the shot from here'
So the two tried to hijack the Destroy.
Problem being, Yon has Empath 3, and took Personalizations. So, she defined that for the mech as 'The cockpit requires one to be a space psychic to use it. Farvicule's attempts at running the thing merely led to the mech attempting to pick its nose, him getting a nosebleed, and eventually falling over after a single step.
These two were very drunk.
Cue Lorelei entering the scene to witness a fallen over mech, and two drunken idiots passed out in their own fluids, one of them muttering about 'the math, the math says we can do it.' So she calls Roselore over to administer some first aid. Meanwhile she hopped into the Terra Kite to try and stand the mech back up.
Switch (The NHP) has taken to trying to cultivate Yon. She wants to see this pilot wreck more havic and destruction. As such, she got Yon to return to the hangar the only way she knew how – triggering the alarm on the Destroy's Apocalypse Rail.
So, Yon emerges into the scene, and sees...
-Fire Team fun Size is passed out, and being dragged off slowly by Roselore
-The Destroy has fallen over
-The Terra Kite is desperately trying to push the thing into an upright position.
-And alarms in the Tooth's hangar are still blaring.
Y'ever see that one scene in Community? Basically that with less fire.||
||Farvicule and Ringabel return to consciousness enough to tell Yon that, if their math is right, the Destroy's Apocalypse Rail should be able to take out the laser. Yon, however, still riding her Shinji arc, made the exact wrong statement: “That thing shouldn't exist, and no one should use it.”
A reminder that Ringabel is a flashclone, made by a now-defunct organization, and as far as Calliope is concerned (as well as the creed of some of the Hell Hounds) she should not exist. So we had a counter jab ready of “Yes. It shouldn't. But at present, it does. And we are the ones that get to determine whether it is a tool for good or for evil, not the other way around – And I'd like to believe you choose good over evil. Now here's the math. Get in the damn robot.”
This convinced her.
So we teed up Angel of Doom, and had our scene of Yon, climbing into the Destroy, marching it out of the city, lining up the shot, and firing. Clouds parted as though you just sent a shipment to the elevator in Satisfactory, everyone in the city heard the sound of this cannon firing, and then off in the distance, a silent flash of light.
A tense silence.
And then a brief hijacking of the intercoms systems of Furnace City of one very angry Mr. Steele, shouting “WHO THE FUCKING FUCK DID THAT?!”
- Orbital Laser Status: Destroyed
...For the life of me, while I know Ringabel had a scene where she also went to seek a guide, I cannot remember the exact specifics, as this was a relatively busy session. But, she rolled well enough, and as such, the team got a second Guide counter. I think I wanted to lead her to Pencils Multitude, but i never actually had a scene – Wait right, I remember, she got her guide die by doing some brief scouting runs with her Metalmark.
We also had a meeting with a certain priest. A thing Lorelei was keyed up for. Ignatius was gracious, overall, and spoke to everyone. But they were not having it. Farvicule was quick to point out the hypocrisy of 'you want to end suffering, but hundreds if not thousands would have died on the Icebreaker if you had your fucking way.” As I was about to use a particularly classic cliche, Farvicule followed up with a shout of “This mother fucker is about to tell you all that you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, to which you should ask yourself, are you a fucking egg?!”
Lorelei used this momentary distraction to try and see how many she could sway to Striga's own following of The Truth. With Farvicule's help, she did managed to talk to some. This turned into a retrieval of some Repairs for the party. Since it was a particularly well done scene, I have opted to not increase the Cult Influence track at the start of the mission.
- +4 Repairs
Lastly, Farvicule wanted to figure out a way to -maybe- try shaking some of the attention that had been drawn on them by the destruction of Steele's laser. This, in turn, led him actually to Brimstone's home. Because small world. A brief chat over some tea, and Brimstone said she'd reach out to some of her contacts to see what could be done.
Me personally, I feel that the destruction of the laser with the Barbarossa firmly locks the Enemy Attention clock at 4. But, I allowed the roll anyways, and since it worked well, the first combat beat of the Steele dome will be treated as though they had Enemy Attention at 0 instead of 4, to represent the misdirection.
They're still going to need to deal with Bad Star, and I'm going to need to read... that line... ... pray for me chat.||
It was a very fun and full session

pulled up all of ada's stuff on isometric maps
im considering running this campaign that way
has anyone else done it and is it worth
I mean
I have, and it was very worth it to me lmao
It does make creating and setting up maps harder. I ended up using a lot of tokens-as-cover items near the end, and since a lot of those were assets ripped from Shadowrun and Fallout I couldn't include them in my folders.
i have also done it -- it does look really nice, but it also comes with the worry of visual clutter
personally i prefer it in general, i can handle the visual cluttering most of the time
another thing to question is what version of foundry you want to run -- if you want to run v11, you do have to pay for the pro version of grapejuice isometrics (and i don't think v12 grapejuice exists yet)
i have it set up a bit on v10
okay then, yeah, no concerns with grapejuice versionwise
i've also got moulinette for tile stuff
Is ada in this chat at all cause i don't know what other modules or things she used to make those maps or the token outlines/object outlines
so far this is what i got
hi yes, I'm here. Also you can DM me or ping me whenever you need.
For that first fight, I used a starfield background like you have there, and some pixel art space rocks I found on deviant art so I can't distribute those, but it looks like you have some. I also found some generic metal pieces and spaceship parts to mix in.
For the zoning, I drew shapes by hand with foundry's polygon tool. Enemy deployment and reinforcement zones are color #a10000 (red) at .3 alpha with FFF lines, player deployment is #008141 (green), and the objective zone was #000056 (blue) but later I'd use #a1a100 (yellow).
I made the cover pieces as deployable-type actors, so they could be set up with evasion, HP, armor stats, and also so they have outlines that highlight when you or players mouseover them. Helps make it more clear where the cover is. I set the rocks to have different heights so players were encouraged to explore verticality in their movements, but later I felt like that might have added too much complexity.
Your map looks like it's off to a good start. It's a bit big... measure the distance between your starting edge (player deployment) and the objective, and remember that the players need to get there with the objective in 8 rounds using only normal movement (4 per player at LL0). Your players might be able to chain move to speed it up, but enemies can block it too.
You'll want more cover than you've got. Maybe double. Make sure your objective can fit through most of the lanes formed by the cover though.
Thank you so much this is all super helpful!!!!!!!!
I had completely forgotten about the fact that gloryhammer has included a bunch of instrumental versions in their albums... that's actually a really interesting place to pull battle tracks from. Kinda a shame that gloryhammer are run by shitheads but that's the metal scene sometimes 😔
honestly I really do wish more artists included instrumental versions of their tracks.
Oh?
My amazing crew and me ended Chapter 1 yesterday and it was one of the best sessions EVER.
God I love this game.
Tell us about it!
Let's goooooo
Chris Bowes is incredibly racist and a huge misogynist (as are other members of the band) and that's not hyperbole, he's a disgusting human being. Doubly upsetting as I used to really enjoy Gloryhammer
(sorry don't mean to distract from cool IGF stuff, just wanted to add context)
<- was just listening to gloryhammer this morning, blissfully unaware
Huh...
Luckily I never got into them but I've heard them on my mates playlist and thought they sounded neat but now IG don't watch 'em
[SPOILER - CHAPTER 1 AND CHAPTER 5 OF IN GOLDEN FLAME ACT 1]
Here it is, the LL0 mechs of my second IGF campaign!
these are sick wtf
that would be my friend @proud tinsel, they know how to fuckin cook
Hard to tell if making sprites is an excuse to play more Lancer or if playing Lancer is an excuse to keep making dope-ass sprites.
May we know which frames each picked?
Cuz LL2 is where shit gets real crazy
Niiiice
oh wait this is the GMS, hang on
THIS is that same player's LL2
fuckin Digivolved lmao
I don't think I can show my favorite of the other SRT I'm running because that character is a streamer with camera drones and we put the actual player's face on one of the screens lmfao
love the use of the sunzi aperature
Yeah! Striga crawled out of there!
pretty much all of them digivolved, It's kind of hilarious how it accidentally happened. Pretty much everyone except my own mech since my GMS sprite was made before I fully figured out where I was going with Ness's aesthetic.
But I might as well post the rest of my party's since I like bragging.
SOUP
Yeah, omninet sensation Soup Can!
Thomas Winkler, the vocalist and least shit member of Gloryhammer (Ie: the one member who wasn't part of the mega racist and misogynistic groupchat) got kicked out just before this all came to light and has started his own thing called AngusMcSix, if you're curious for something with a similar sound.
Although I wouldn't be super surprised if Winkler has his own skeletons in the closet. He didn't part amicably (not that anyone knows exactly why) but still, he spent over a decade working with 4 massively racist misogynists...
Honestly the other big shame is that Bowes is also the brains behind Alestorm.
Tbh I don't place huge moral value on deciding who you listen to based on whether they're good people or not but it's certainly disappointing to say the least. And I'm definitely going to try and financially contribute to them and their success as little as possible beyond that.
Apparently at least one of them has put out an apology in the last year or so but. Man it's disenheartening
If I find out Fleshgod Apocalypse has skeletons though I'm going to burn down Calliope
Changing the mood, I made a handy chart for my group, since they have six ticks on the salvage chart and might want something
'Where's ||Cardcount||?'
They already scored that in mission 2
||The Grabber||
truly the music industry is the greatest proof that artistic talent and merit have absolutely no relation to someone's moral value whatsoever.
sorry, my bad.
Do you think you could farm insects for a source of protein in Calliope?
Hell, you could farm mealworms for fat
Roaches are the most nutritious though
I can’t see it be useful as anything more than composting though, as you still have to feed the bugs
Like the protein in bugs has to come from somewhere
Maybe the bugs eat printloaf
That, and I’m sure you have some vegetable scrap from all the farming that needs to be done
And it’s 5016u- maybe they found a species of insect that can “process” sewage and still be safe to eat
Though considering places Calliope have these struggles in the first place I wouldn’t count on it
Insects/fungus/bacteria capable of processing plastics seem like both a boon and a nightmare in space
you need bugs to have great farming yields. and if you can feed a million people in limited space, you have good yields
Well sure, but bees don’t make the best primary source of protein
i was thinking of soil bugs and worms
Calliope's worms:
Not plastics, god no!
me returning to a compcon mission layout weeks after I set it up: What was I on when i named these things.
Combat: ||Guardian Angel||
i also appreciate that, thanks to I guess what's at the back of the map, Roll20 has decided to make my page selector thematically appropriate
... it took me a moment to realize I was being addressed XD
hokay, opening necessary maps of mission 3 are prepped (I don't need to prepare ||Guns At Noon|| because the mission status is Sick)
Its so funny. I prepared ||Guns at Noon|| but our players ||decided to not fight the Thief anyway when they went to him.||
Their plan was to ||show up, and fight him if and only if he was a complete asshole||
||So when he left and said he'd "swear on the One" to repay them, our players took it... well :)||
I'm happy with the sprites & callsigns I picked out, though
||wait isn’t The Thief UIB?||
Yes
But that doesn't mean he can't also ||be a believer. It's not meant to show that he's with the cult. The faith is wider than just them.||
||mmm gotcha gotcha||
||it could also be part of his cover, it being a common religion in the long rim||
||it could even just be a common enough saying for people that aren't even in the faith to pick up on it, like how not everyone that says "god damn it!" is religious||

i dunno, i8 haven't seen ada and karkat in the same room
So far my golden flame party is a Gladiator Clown, a super outdated NHP, a fancy vaguely French asshat, and an Ungrateful
That's because they were never in the same room until the session ended and they were forced to the meteor.

And proud of it.
So what exactly is a ||fire gate? Is it like a mini blink gate?||
||yeah, its tech from lancer's future brought back by feather (or its tech that feather imagined might be in the future, your choice). Dr. Odin Valentinian probably developed it in the future, which carries big ramifications for a future dawnline shore campaign, should you want a somewhat sequel campaign||
||Kind of, but it doesn't use blinkspace, which was destroyed in Feather's future.||
I'm not sure that needs to be true - it could have been developed before it was destroyed
||It was developed before the blinkpocalapse, and feather had access to the plans. It was lost along with all other blink technology, and the tachyon was developed as a means of recreating FTL. Fire gates are blink gates on a small scale.|| <--spoilers for deep lore
||so does that confirm that feather actually is from the future?||
Ahh, I misremembered.
||It confirms that she knows how to build miniaturized blink gates and thinks they were made in the future. That certainly does lend weight to her story (just like the fact that in act three... uh, new spoiler here:||||she knows where the gravity anvil is)||
A GM could come up with an alternate explanation to fit their needs
WHAT
I'm still reading through the book
So
||BLINKPOCALYPSE!? FUTURE!?||
Spoilers are spoilers for a reason, lmao
These are briefly mentioned near the end of chapter/mission 1
Well I definitely wanna know them all since I'm running the game
Also lol I guess I completely missed that
Sorry, one part is on page 99 in chapter 1. The other is on page 56, in the "Running the Campaign" section. 57 has a nice little sidebar that covers something quite relevant to the discussion:
--GM ONLY--
In terms of this plot point, I really like the Wonderful 101 approach:
||Feather is very much from the future and telling the truth. This adds depth to what players see with cascading NHPs as well as providing a larger goal of “this is what we’re staring down the barrel of if we don’t affect change now,” similar to the big twist of Wonderful 101 being that GEATHJERK is a group attempting to rebel against a humanity that uses the Wonderful 100 as a bludgeon of enforcement.||
Love that
How have other GMs explained ||feather's origins and stuff||
I'd love to know so i can try to figure out something good myself
||I had Triple-Point create a prometheus class NHP using the corpse of CAUSTIC during chapter 4. It creates a neat little loop where triple point creates prometheus class trying to stop a prometheus class||
it also lets the party interact with the precursor, and I made a neat piece of exotic loot
ooo
||to twist the knife even more, I made Prometheus (the character I made up) this very friendly, incredibly naive, hardworking, trusting person that goes along with everything the party wants to do. It shows off how terrible feather was treated by 4comm, and more intuitive players might be able to reason that she's being lead by the cult as much as they're being lead by her.||
So gamers,
One of my players wants to give ||Bonarchuk|| A redemption arc since I made her a pc's mother
I am so fucking hype

||One of my players really wanted their PC to interact with an NHP and they really connected with Feather when they learned about them on the Tachyon. We had talked about her NHP because she had one due to her talent but we never interacted with it so I had the idea to give her an unshackled baby Feather for an NHP, which acts almost like an alien baby that's mainly manifesting as heat. It then caused the whole group to spiral because this could be a full paradox but they also explained the paradox away with "this NHP must already exist or will be created somewhere else, it's like the plane, it got invented in multiple places at once around the same time" They're now engaging in New Parent Schenanigans as they have to learn how to perform the necessary steps to Shackle baby-feather and then teach her tricks (which currently means feeding other NHPs to her and hoping she consumes their powers like Kirby)||

Might be a little while before we take a look at Act 2 (although maybe still before it's done?), although of course there's going to be a lot of Act 1 epilogue to get through even after the final combat 😅
||A Hive is most fitting, I think.||
aaaAAAAHHHH (this is like the third time it’s happened
||How do you guys do the Golden Hand quest if... none of the PCs have a build that wants to use it?||
||Do you just not do it?||
GOd my players have absolutely shitass godawful luck in this campaign
I keep rolling crits and they keep rolling 1's this is torture
One of them used 2 line weapons back to back hitting 2 targets - missed literally all four shots after rolling 2 ones and a two
I wish I rolled worse >:(
This isn't even just Foundry dice being weird this happened when I ran D&D 5E too this sucks
And iirc my last Lancer campaign too
That was my approach yeah
||I am currently giving it to them either way because they might just want to change their builds to use them and the guns have a nice story, even if they don't end up using them as weapons they for sure would love following this tale of two souls. ||
||I also gave it to the player that is a known completionist of games where you collect an item at the end of the quest and it either shapes you build or gets forgotten, but they never forget the quest that brought them there, so they're the perfect player to prompt into the journey. If your players dont care much about that kind of stuff it might be a little useless but who knows. ||
two of my players for this will be NHP pilots 👀
oh boy
Haha, what if we were both NHPs and we were slotted into the same frame? Wild...
Unless 👀
that'd be cool but nah
"And they were mechmates."
"Oh my god they were mechmates."
Saaaame
They're gonna have fun in ||mission 4||
Do you guys have a recommended deployment order for ||Send in the Clowns? It’s a 3 player sitrep but I have the bonus NPCS on standby a. Just in case, and b. How could I not even entertain the chance of using them?||
||I put the dragon as a suprise in the castle||
||So once they go into the castle to grab Dr. Nyambose the dragon is like right next to them||
Hmm… I don’t think I wanna do that
Also ||is the turntable in Send in the Clowns supposed to trigger at the end of every turn? As in… every turn? Like one person goes, it triggers spinning everyone, then another person goes and then it spins everyone, etc?||
Since ||"every turn" is objectively the funnier answer and also what it says in the book I think it's that||
||book says every turn, therefore I spun that shit every turn. as Ada says, its the objectively funnier answer||
||the funny thing is, if there are an even amount of turns, then you end up… exactly where you started when your turn comes around||
Mission 3 is going fine
||Journey prep|| going well, I see
||They scored some repairs from journey prep, and we've picked a bunch of that gave them more. We also did Guardian Angel and they rinsed my guys, so, free repairs...
The only thin we didn't get repairs from was the Mass Driver, I made up a bit about how the mass drivers were SSC tech, and offered Lorelei either the chance to harvest the parts for -more- repairs and stuff, or to use their last bit of power to send Switch(NHP) through the Omninet, and come back later with a present from SSC's back catalogue.
Switch chose the latter. Lorelei loses access to her NHP for the rest of the mission, and will get a frame when they return||
also, since a player drew up the party much earlier, i used that as part of a prop ||for Arkady to find the party||
just ran a successful session 0 for In Golden Flame!
Lancer doesn't have a stable amount of turns nor a consistent turn order so I don't think that's a problem
Considering how ||Combat: Surprise, Surprise is meant to be just an all out combat you get a full repair right after, would it be safe to add in some extra NPCs to it?||
||I wanna bring back an Archer and Assault from Mission 1||
||that puts a lot of reliable damage units on the board but also one of the PCs is unrolling a Zheng that combat so… balances out||
||and maybe one of them will also be an Orchis but idk||
ch3 first beat spoilers ||There's a veteran archer there you could repurpose already. Adding one more npc shouldn't be a problem though. Just make sure you follow the advice in the revised version of the book and tell your players up front they'll get a full repair after. When lancers are unfettered to use all their overcharge, CP, limited charges and repairs? They can punch well above their typical weight.||
||oh right there is! Thanks!||
||anyhow that’s what I was thinking too. The encounter seems to be within normal budget so adding 2 more NPCs shouldn’t break much||
Switch vibes
My group was going to have our session 1 tonight but we may be postponing again. We did get a ton of prep done today at least.
Here's a little something I wrote up for the Session 1 outline:
||Jerry, rubbing his temples and staring down at his coffee mug, explains that he’s been on the horn with an irate Chief McArthur all morning discussing, among a dozen other problems, the situation with the printer. McArthur claims that all printer access logs from that night have been erased, but something in the last completed order caused a cascade of system errors that ultimately led to the main power relay burning out entirely. That order? 3 militia mechs, plus 1 civilian chassis belonging to a… Princess HRH Principalis Humiliations Agony Noelle Damnations Exequy the 13th? “Honestly I thought that last part was a joke until Shells told me we uh… actually did have a guest by the name Princess Principalis Humiliations… Argyle… Dominoes… uhm… Etcetera”.||
We have tokens for everyone now as well
2 Everests, a Chomolungma and a Sagarmatha
One of these things is not like the other
Mallard’s lack of color?
Session: in 20 minutes
"It could always be worse mug": equipped
White shirt and tie i got from a charity store: Very poorly worn!
Hell yeah it's jerry masters cosplay GMing time
Now i need to stain the shirt and all is good 😎
the mug is real??
A white mug I drew in red onto it
Also... Session concluded... Mission 1 complete... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Hyped for next
One of them is (ACT 1 spoiler not mission 1) ||saying they love recurring villains||
||BOY HOWDY YOU THINK THAT SMOULDERING PLATE FROM THE FLOOR OF THE TACHYON YOU USED A CRITICAL SUCCESS SKILL CHECK TO TAKE IS ALL THAT'S LEFT OF CAPELLA!!! YOU'RE CORRECT HOWEVER YOU WON'T BE IN 4 MISSIONS!!!||
:D
one of my players literally said on the feedback for the session that he thought them meeting ||Capella|| was too soon and too easy for what he saw as "one of the main villains of the story", so he thought they would be a recurring villain and was a little disappointed in how it turned out.
||BOY DID I CRACK A SMILE AT THAT - had to really hold myself and address the concern with a straight face but it was hard.||
YEAH LMAO
They are going a little crazy with ||that psycho|| that ||Capella|| mentioned and are really paranoid with ||Hell Hounds|| retaliation, I can't wait for the next couple of missions. Now they're heading towards ||Icebreaker Borealis||, I'm very excited for these next couple sessions.
The Capella thing actually reminded me I wanted to ask something from folks that have run IGF or are a little bit more ahead - what's the normal damage on combats? My group has 3 players that are very good tatically and the ||Capella|| fight was the hardest fight they've had and I only made 2 of them Structure once each, should these fights be harder? I'm new to Lancer so I have no idea how much damage I should be doing and if I need to balance my combats better or that's normal and it gets harder over the chapters.
||wow this villain we've built up as evil incarnate for the entire first mission is... dead! oh well, guess that's the last we'll see of him!||
One of my players literally said that, it was hard to contain a chuckle.
Tbh the ||Capella|| fight was probably one of the easiest fights my players have had. Only 1 structure each? That’s pretty good. I had one of my player’s mechs get destroyed first combat
My team fared about the same in that fight iirc. I didn't manage to wreck a single pc mech until chapter 3. For the last fight of chapter 4 and all the fights in chapter five, I put my four players up against the 5 PC sitrep, and they still only lost one mech. (ch5 MAJOR campaign spoilers: ||Calamity Havok was hard focused by the final boss for what should be fairly obvious reasons||)
Meanwhile in the remix campaign... I got structured on turn one of Shoo the Vultures, stunned, structured on the first activation of turn two, rolled snake eyes, and failed my hull check. On top of that, Cruye's making the game harder with extra templates and NPCs and sometimes entirely extra fights, and my pilot, Rosé Bottle, has lost her mech... I think we're up to four times now? And yet we haven't lost a mission yet (except that one time, but that's because I betrayed the team and we lost narratively not gameplay wise. Ch2 spoiler:||My character's a cult spy and I gave them heads up on our raid. In killer sound there was no true CZ; the cult had already moved the array||)
IGF is very strong on fail-forward, and yet it's pretty rare for players to lose a fight. If you want to up the difficulty, I suggest (ch2 spoiler)||waiting till after the ch2 fight anti-capital. Sunbird 1 is a BEAST and a bit of a difficulty spike on purpose. Losing there only means that Sunbird 1 has a chance to escape and come back another day; the fire gate's already dead and the players get a full repair after.||
I mean. ||he's only an elite. Pyros are a bit lackluster a lot of the time, and Capella isn't even the first elite they face. After you hit sunbird 1 you start seeing elites in almost every mission.||
Awesome, that's good to know. I'm not aiming for my players to fail any of the missions, but I do want to put the fear of dying into them - they've gone to being scared of loud noises to realizing they have 4 health bars and life doesn't matter, so I kind of want to get them a little closer to death to balance their approach and make them think a little harder.
Knowing it gets more dangerous does soothe my mind a little bit though.
Regarding Chapter 2: ||I'm REALLY excited for Sunbird 1, all of the Ch2 fights sound really fun but Sunbird 1 looks like a real fucking blast to run. Really looking forward to it.||
||nah yeah absolutely, I didn’t expect it to be that bad. However I also did not expect the previous 2 combats to be that bad and both times my players nearly had the floor wiped with them, so I was still scared out of my mind||
||either my luck is way too good, my players strategizing is really bad, or I’m really good at Lancer, a thing that is normal to not want and possible to achieve||
sometimes players are just Very Good At The Game. my players have crushed basically every fight except 2 (||CAUSTIC kicked the absolute shit out of them but they still won, Andros round 2 was less of a mess than CAUSTIC but one of their mechs did get wrecked||), despite me having the difficulty turned up for basically the entire campaign after they completely rolled mission 1 (3 player party, they've almost exclusively been facing the 4PC opfors in their combats, sometimes the 5PC opfor)
Actually I remembered wrong, ||Andros 2|| didn't wreck any mechs. the one I misremembered as wrecked ended that combat chilling at 1 structure, 1 hp, with 9 burn marked.
my players popped the fuck off on ||CAUSTIC||. I gave them the 5pc sitrep for extra challenge, and they were incredibly locked in. Every choice was basically optimal, and the dice collaborated with them. Blackbeard CP hit every single npc, Dusk wing's stuncrown followed up and hit every npc with at least one of the effects. It was a slaughter. They scanned the main threat, read the rules carefully, and kept it completely locked down. It was scary. And maybe inspired me to keep the +1 players threat going through ch5.
My players scanned him pretty quick into the fight and then promptly had to throw away all of their strategy after The Dice™️ happened, leaving the Empaakai stunned and exposed in the middle of everything. some very good teamwork happened to get the stun off so he could stabilize the exposed, but it fucked up their positioning pretty fierce and cost them a lot of health.
didn't help that ||Caustic, especially with wraithshot|| is a fucking nightmare for a Lich. ||They didn't go after the Echos, so I ended up just keeping one parked by the lich's soul vessel. on a barrage, if they soul vessel the sword then the echo on their soul vessel can still wraithshot them, and achronal response if they try to get away.||
ah, damn, that sounds like a fun time lol. my team ||didn't let a single echo survive. CAUSTIC had nowhere to go and 90% of the time had no reactions available||
to be clear, my team absolutely dumpstering that boss fight was also a hell of a lot of fun, but I do prefer to strike that balance of scraping through by the skin of their teeth rather than making a fight almost trivial. Still, it made them feel badass, in a chapter that tore their souls and unit cohesion apart.
On the one hand, ||fantasy music would be what’s needed for maximum immersion for the Send in the Clowns fight||
On the other hand, ||This is the one of the few times I can player Dragon Attack and Ogre Battle by Queen in a TTRPG game and have it be 100% justified||
Official Merch of my players team. Produced in collaboration with Ipswich "Switch" DeLacey
oh fuck yeah lmao
I'm love it
I mean, ||5 player sitrep he's an elite veteran. Ain't even the first, s1gn4l was more threatening||
One of the main difficulty factors to is def how you play your enemies. The simplest one to note is who your enemies focus. In my group 1 (3 player) who are good at combat but not great i do pull my punches a bit and my enemies focus who's currently in front of them or who i feel like.
Whereas my group 2 that are very competent at combat I don't pull punches (as much) and target individually who currently deserves punishing. The players have prevented me from making the most threatening play multiple times.
Despite this however I still try to distribute my focus across the party when I can. I think it's more fun if 4/5 of the party has lost atleast one structure and consumed resources than if 1 mech has been destroyed despite focus firing being the most optimal for the enemies
||Which is why I'm excited for Sunbird 1 because:
- The flavour text is badass
- the Battlefield conditions are badass
- I want to be a filthy power gamer. Go all out and focus fire and be as optimal as possible
- ITS 5 PLAYERS I CAN PLAY WITH 3 ACITVATUON ULTRAS AGAIN!!! :D OH HOW I MISSED YOU SO||
Anyway idk if that was relevant... but it's interesting playing IGF across 2 groups and seeing how both groups fare in relatively similar combats
Mission 2 spoilers:
What I normally have at the side of my maps:
VS what I have for ||Anti-capital||
here's the advice I have so you don't fall into the same 'oo shiny' trap that I did.
||The Hades and Wolfhound missiles are a trap - Javelin Missiles -> Missile Pods is up to 81 damage a round||
||Hey just because they’re less optimal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them||
||Hades is definitely situational but like, don't not use WFHM if you're able to do so. Its sick as hell as a system and feels good to counter against as a player||
||They are cool and shiny, plus they make the players a lot more aware of the space around them. A turn locking on to a player before deploying a Wolfhound Missile can do wonders for intimidation, and like… what player wouldn’t want to have the chance to throw a Wolfhound Missile back at the enemy?||
||Hades is a Punisher you use against players who chose to bunch up and players who aren’t worried about their heat cap and really should be. Combos well with the Hornet too||
||Yeah, you gotta use the wolfhound at least once. It's iconic.||
||I used the the wolfhound and immediately regretted it after the groups chomo popped their core power and managed to puppet system 3/4 of the enemies into the wolfhound AOE, which chain-reacted into the Operator Self-Erasure.
||
GLORIOUS.
d'you ever just ||chuck a wolfhound at a PC, but then kill them before the missile can actually reach||
||listen they gotta break past Argus Armor somehow, better early than late||
||And they're going to be talking about that with other people for weeks, going, "That was so cool!"||
||actually that was more of an average afternoon for my chomo player/group, in part because they weren't in any trouble yet. The turns that they pull off when their back is against the wall make my head spin
. I've come to realize that I have to hit them with combos as nasty as they're hitting me with and not hold back in the slightest (if anything, only hold back by having enemies change targets after someone is crippled or knocked out of their mech).||
Question about the Module, does it have resources for FoundryVTT?
Not for foundry specifically, but if you check the spreadsheet in the pins there's maps/tokens/other stuff the community's put together
Thank you, that works just as well
dont forget IGF also has an lcp and you can upload them on Foundry and it imports items and npc stuff into it
given it has a lot of exotic items it saves a bunch of time
I fully forgot for the whole first chapter lol
that's fuckin cool. ||I threw the wolfhound at Calamity, who move-boost-hyperspecboost'd behind sunbird 1 trying to kite the missile into it. Then the Cataphract landed impale, dragged her out away from the ship, and they both got hit with the missile. Glorious, but for the opposite team.||
Chomo players are a menace honestly
My Chomo player is the player that has played with me for the longest time and he was basically the D&D 5e encyclopedia guy, he's currently devouring the Lancer books. When I asked my players to send me their LL1 he sent me four alternative builds from 1 to 6, my guy planning his PC's retirement
Average Controller Main
(It’s me)
(I’m controller main)
(Been in more of a defender fan as of late tho)
My experience so far has been that controllers really elevate the level of gameplay
They also make my life hell
Love that for all gms out there
I felt called out
I know, ||the wolfhound can be thrown out when it recharges cos it's a cool "parry" like ability when pulled off well. Hades is reserved for enemies out of range or LOS. I'm also planning on never removing lock on||
One of the PCs on my table is dating Striga and their player made a comic of them breaking down during the night and being conforted by Striga and it legit made me cry, I love my players
out of combat, my group's chomo pilot is a super-chill pacifist doctor
in combat, he's fucking terrifying
mine's catchphrase is that he has two modes:
- Violence
- Enable Violence
and honestly it tracks
yeah, it definitely tracks
Yeah, I usually GM but when one of my players wanted to run a one-shot, I got to show them that the Iskander has increased in power since the original release due to the addition of the Demolitionist talent and the Gilgamesh license. (I ended the fight back in the deployment zone having moved about 8 spaces total and covered the entire field in mines that I knocked everyone into in the process of that)
are you willing to share the comic? 🥺
I've asked my player and she said she'll fix it up a little and then send it to me
Mission 4: ||"I wanna show off my new railgun to other party member", me reading "Whether or not the PCs seek her out, no matter where they are – even on the Icebreaker! – at some point, Striga will unfurl from a location that seems physically impossible for her to occupy"||
||She was inside a PC mechs plasma thrower||
TW for anxiety and trauma
I tried to organize them like a comic or something but I couldn't so I put them in order individually
Awwww
IT's so strange to see Striga being well put together for another person but it's very fitting. We love this and I hope the best for your PC
Extra! (Discord has a 10 image limit)
Also, tell your player they have a very lovely art style.
Their beginning was that Striga tried recruiting them into "The Truth" in a really unhinged meeting in some abandoned part of the facility - that was right after fight with ||Capella||, and the character was really emotionally fucked by seeing ||all the dead people in the Weasel and the looming doom of the future in the Tachyon||.
The PC just had a very aggressive meltdown and I kind of shifted Striga to just be really concerned for her. And that eventually turned into the Emotional Support Tall Bottom Striga we see here today
Awwwwww
Man that is so sweet. I love that for that PC
Sounds a lot like what happened to my PC with Anastasia. She just showed up and become the bedrock for my PC's mental health
Calliope System Partner Distribution System: Trauma
Listen, Bun has got problems and that white haired cutie tomboy gave her genuine hope that, "You know, maybe my future here is a little bright after all."

THEY LOOK SO CUTE OMGGGGGGG
Charlotte: I'm having a hard time justifying my life here. Despite being a mother and feeling like a bad person thinking that isn't enough
Ana: (Hi! Want to get drinks?)
Charlotte: Life has meaning
that's why I play TTRPGS honestly
IGF is just a dating sim featuring lancer combat
I'll drink to that
though I blame Vex and the artists for making everyone look and sound (read?) so hot
Seems like some steam users tagging Dark Souls series “Dating Sim”
It was intentional according to Vex
Vex surely made this campaign similar with Dark Souls, in difficulty
That comic is so cute and gay.
And yeah, for all but like three of them, Vex designed them so they could find them hot in at least some way.
Steele is one of the exceptions. The other two are spoilers.
Genuinely, tho?
I’ve been running Striga like an unhinged maniac, I might try having them be a genuine person.
Well, not “unhinged,” just very conspiracy-forward.
Por que no los dos?
Sneaky, sneaky.
(well not very sneaky, but still)
someone gave me some advice when I was starting to DM like 15 years ago which was "who's that quirky NPC after they go home and have to make dinner?" and that made me think a lot more on how they behave outside of their intended "function" on the adventure
and given my players love romancing NPCs, it's been a very useful thing to think about
I think that is a very solid headspace to be with NPC's.
cute and gay is our table name
:)
Hi Athena
Btw is Ana a NPC?
In Ch3 ye
Ch 2 spoilers ||Legit scheming in between combats but in my player's favor||
A Hell's gate floor plan for my IGF game.
yoo, that looks really good!
I might use that myself, that looks so good
If you end up making more of those, really hope you put them in a shareable folder and put the link in the pinned IGF resources spreadsheet, because this looks fantastic and I’d love to see more!
Feels very Dead Space - assuming you're taking inspiration from the Ishimura plan view?
I'll probably update as my game progresses (I do want to do the icebreaker map)
Currently I've just started recruiting participants from my potential players.

BREAKING NEWS: Seems my pilot has cured Jerry’s selection on ties
She bought a upscale, plain, without any pinstripes or patterns in mission 2 on Borealis for Jerry
session 1 of my campaign is tomorrow 👀
Then it appeared with him in video call when || He cooperated with Siren to get raid with the laser satellite || at a climax of mission 3
Ah man, I'm always so excited to see all the new guns coming to tell more stories of their campaigns
See, I've been going under the assumption that Jerry knows exactly how his ties look to other people. It's just that, for his own reasons, ||he finds them very gender-affirming.||
Also his tie collection is far, far larger than the PCs will ever see.
Jerry is like my dad in that he has racks-on-racks of neckties, bow ties, etc.
I think I might actually have Jerry do Bow-Tie Tuesday like my dad...
||transition goals were initially harrier friggin dubois. he dialed it back a little somewhere along the line but the t ies stayed||
I must admit the thought of going out in a very strange tie is tempting🫡
Made a system map in the same style.
and put it on the IGF resources spreadsheet.
Some of you might have seen a "Jerry's Ties" table floating around. I made that forever ago, and it's populated with ~90% ties my own dad has.
I have not seen this, and I would like to
brilliant
what would I need for a landing page? Working on owlbear rodeo, so it'll be more of a battlemap covered in images than a proper page
clocks, maps...
quick question
iirc there are events that tick the cult influence clock later on
would that also affect station stability?
when the influence clock is established it's noted that it's always equal to the empty segments of stability
are they... no longer linked after downtime 2?
Theres a template on Figma that I adapted and use it, me and my players like it a lot
Mine is in portuguese but looks like this
And I made 4 tabs that the right side is identical and the left side changes between mission, contacts, system map and reserves
I honestly have no idea, my personal take is that it starts as the mirror of the Station Stability clock and then after it's established they're independent, especially because it mentions that you tick one and not the other in downtime stuff etc, but maybe I didn't understand something correctly
ooh this is prettyyyy 😍
i made my own for my SOTW game but this looks greaat
would you be willing to make it available somehow???
Any chance you plan to put the full quality / original quality image (Not the discord one) into the resources folder?
A good landing page, to me, gives the players information they need while engaged in narrative play.
At a bare minimum, start with a portrait of each PC with name and callsign. This is vital early in the game to help people learn each other's characters. I like to include Siren in this, she's a part of the team after all.
If you're using bonds / stress, you'll want their stress clocks and burdens. You don't need the burden clocks so much as their names; healing burdens is a once-a-downtimes thing, but they can be invoked on skill checks and should be roleplayed. It helps to see them constantly.
Skill triggers are nice but can take up a lot of space. More if you include their ratings.
You'll want somewhere to display the Militia Readiness and Station Stability clocks ||also Cult Influence||
Mission Objectives, Clues, Contacts are all good and cool, but in practice are a lot of work to keep updated to me. You can have your players manage them directly, if your VTT supports player text edits.
👀 here's the one i made
So, ||station stability always has max 12 segments. Say it was x/12. Cult influence ALWAYS has max segments equal to 12-x. So if you are AMAZING station stability can be up to 12. Meaning that it's impossible for the cult yo gain any influence cos the max is now 0. If you're horrible at maintaining the station and it's 0/12 the max cult influence is 12. But this doesn't mean that it's currently at that amount. It can now be at say 3/12 segments||
||Another way to think about it is that Station Stability ticks block an equal amount of Cult Influence.||
||If you have 6/12 SS and 6/12 CI, cult influence can't go up because it's being blocked by Station Stability, which takes priority. Station Stability can go up, though, and remove a Cult Inlfuence at the same time, bringing it to 7/12 SS and 5/12 CI||
And here's my landing page. The blank space on the right usually gets covered by Foundry's menu, I have it collapsed here. You can see I didn't design it with burdens in mind, and resorted to just kinda having them float next tot he characters. Assets for this landing page including the photoshop files for editing and a small text guide are in the spreadsheet
||Also you can see the redacted cult influence clock there, currently 1/3, with the station stability clock at 9/12, for an illustration of that mechanic||
Again, my landing page isn’t a constrained screen, it’s a scrollable battle map equivalent
However I think I should definitely put the players on it
Like, absolutely
Also burdens
Although keeping track of the clocks in multiple places will prove tough
That's what all of these are, except for mine where I have a foundry module that locks the screen and forces it to fit to the browser window. If you look at Satyr's, the battlemap is zoomed out a little more.
^ (my modules actually borked rn :()
it might be more about the fact that clocks would only exist within the scene in owlbear. If you wanted to change maps, you'd have to change scenes and then copy paste the clocks from one to the other. there's no "Linked Actor Data" equivalent in owlbear
Ada's tutorial is fucking baller for making a cool screen
Technically witchdice has a section for clocks
Alas... That is for foundry...
However I don’t like it that much
it gets the job done
There is a pinned one in #lancer-vtt I think... It's quite far up and it's what I use for mine
I've heavily modified it tho :P to make multiple splash screens
Am veyr happy with them
But I'm most happy about the mission briefings I've done :P
@compact aurora hi nail
hello funny bunny i am running a IFG for my friends
ye but i like ur colour scheme, and any second i can save not making another panel is saved XD
i wasted so much time modding mine last time
Oh that's awesome! Let me know if you need any help with set up or settings!
The colour scheme is the default MSMC one with the one pinned in lancer vtt
oh sorry! i switched two people up
I'm actually planning on throwing out my landing screen entirely and starting from scratch on a new one. My team finished act 1 and I wanna upgrade things for act 2. ||particularly since Union's offering system support to Hell's Gate. If you look close on mine, the console window says the operating system is ~270 years out of date|| This also coincides with me upgrading to foundry 11, so there's going to be a lot of little changes.
what do you mean? I know there's an interaction problem with Lock View that ruins the Isometric module, but I found that I could get around it by rolling back to an older version of lock view.
Text on owlbear isn’t the best I’d say
Ooooh this is a good one, I've always had a hard time keeping track of the system, I'll hang on to this
Quite honestly, text in foundry is horrid too for anything that isn't a small label
Lock View didnt lock the view and threw an error constantly on my server when I updated
hey @thorn hinge where did you find the isometric token borders for your game
Wow I uh... did not put as much effort into my landing page as some of yall
HOOOOOLY
the dogtags have lovely extra detail on them
they're from the Orcus refinery he grew up on (non-IGF spoiler) ||one being his (Morgan), and the other being his deceased girlfriend's (Zeyan). they both took the callsign Firedancer||
the real tragedy is that (IGF spoiler, Ch 5) ||their refinery was raided while HA was looking for Baldur's Sunzi, and only Morgan was left alive (by accident)||
of course the player doesn't know (nor does Morgan) but the detail just makes me all emotional
Oh my god that is amazing
it took entirely too long to get here
What do you mean?
i figured it out actually so nvm, but i had meant the borders around a token that align them to the grid.
ahh.. I made those by hand to get around a bug I had with a very early version of the isometric module
hello chat
i am starting an IFG game this week
i am converting a party of no roleplayers into roleplayers
and i was wondering if anyone had interesting activities or character prompts that would give them ideas
Session 1 some questions I asked the players which worked well for me, however this might not be the best things to ask new-roleplayers:
- You have lived on the gate for a while, there are lots of jobs around such as ___. Which jobs might you have worked on and how do you find it?
- Jerry calls you all to a meeting, who turns up first
- Ask everyone individually how did you break the printer
But a primary way to get peeps into roleplaying is don't hope a player finds and makes their own scene and situation. But bring one to them
"You are walking to X, and on the way you hear a scuttling in the vent above you along side some curses, banging noises and scuttling. What do you do?"
Then Striga ends up falling out the vent holding a vent crab and tries roping into the players into a new conspiracy. Try show what is happening through small scenes that happen around them
I've done this with every IGF game I've hinted at or ran. Give them two or three NPC's they should already know so their characters can bounce off of them and get a feel on how life is.
One NPC for living in Hell's Gate and one NPC that lives outside it. Have them get related via the characters backstories (if they got something planned) or just to match their vibe. It gives them something to look forward to if they know where that NPC is or whenever they get involved because woo friend! or woo enemy!
that's a great idea :D
gotcha lmao, i like these
Any ideas on PCs yet? I can give some hardcore character recommends if needed.
session 0 is this week, ik i got a raleigh cowboy like pc xD
That's pretty standard for IGF Groups.
lol
there is always some cowboy, somehow. I don't know how.
We're in the frontier of space, cowboys abound
In a universe with paracausal paraphernalia, weapons that fire before you even pull the trigger, SSC, it's surprising how effective a good ol' Big Iron is
Yee Haw to victory
You'd be surprised how many times I've gotten people out of danger with Sunzi Shenanigans
When I read this paragraph, this is what came to my mind:
"Oh, I don't feel right, I don't feel good, I need to cycling!"
"The last time you cycling was last Friday."
The vibes based muse message is class
I love how I revealed the muse Chatter stuff to my group during session 0 and then I'd be interrupted by an occasional laugh or giggle from someone reading them
The vibes based anything seems to be standard for safety practices in Calliope
Mission 2 spoilers
Mission 2: HEAR UP ||IT'S DJ-EZ MCFEAR WITH A SICK AS BATTLEFIELD, GET READY FOR KILLLLLEEEEEEEER SOOOOOUND REEEVAAAAAMP||
yoooooo
btw do you have a repository somewhere where we can find these maps all together?
Seiously I love what you did with these
check pins
😎
NP
This is how I have it set up in foundry...
This is 87 Megabytes... I don't have nitro how the fuck is this being uploaded?
UUuh, version with hud and size indicators of terrain + and objectives will be uploaded... Just not tonight cos it's half past midnight and I have lectures tomorrow
Indicators for ||recon and beacon recon since I'm gonna try running it for beacon recon :P||
gosh darn it, why'd i have to see this literally the day after running killer sound on my own homemade map
sorry ;-;
The passage of free time is now an extinct concept to me
One day I shall obtain it again... But it is lost to time of hobbies, obligations and Uni work
no need to apologize
i'm still very hyped to use your amazing maps for mission 3
:D
new imp map dropped
Omg, after a false start trying to run IGF last year, my group just wrapped up our first session.
I was really stressed, first time gming, but as soon as I we got going I remembered "oh, right, this is a game I'm playing with friends"
Anyway, everyone actually really liked my modified intro where I had them act out what they were each doing when the printer broke.
||After that, they ended up chosing the snack run, and half the party tried negotiating exclusively though Push Boundaries checks, while the others tried to make appeals to the ID representative's decency, which he did not have.||
might be a lot to ask for or even just... not possible, but would it he possible to nab animated in a webp or smth or are the lights from foundry itself?
those look like foundry lights to me
Lights are from foundry
Nail cooking, once again
Oh you updated the map?
yes
Sick
Not my first time, original was made before sci fi assets were a thing in Inkarnate. Since thenn I've got better and I want to redo some of the maps that I don't like. But TBH the last one is ||A face to a name|| cos the rest imo are "good enough"
||Thermopylae|| I'm still happy with considering that was also made before sci-fi assets
And fuck upgrading ||Anti-capital||
Can I makei t better? Definitely, much much more so
Do I want to ||cut out and make all the tiles again? because I need to do it by hand?||
Fuck no
It's the natural predator of the vent crab, for now
I give it a week before the vent crabs start hunting the toads
Have the vent crab, the cane toads and a third faction fight for control of the vents like an invasive species version of planetside 2
The third faction is Raccoons. Nothing special about them, they're just Earth raccoons
||Maybe you could make a non-cut tile version of it? Like a static map. I’d certainly appreciate because as is the tiles are way too hard to use on Foundry v11 for someone without a good amount of time on their hands to set it up||
