DAMMIT DAVE
OH NO
Also apparently vex is in my city and theoretically close???
(Okay not actually that close)
it's your duty to craft a life size Jerry statuary and leave it on their doorstep
It didnt sink in until now but I just realized our players believe that Feather is literally just vibing
Like totally uninvolved in anything. Feather's just chillin'
... how far in are you again?
Ch3 from what I recal?
YUP
We just briefed Mission 3
YEAH. ||Our players also "recruited" (she volunteered) someone who is secretly an Inner Cult Elect (one of the PC's sisters) so this is going to be FUCKING GREAT||
||If you haven’t, consider making them a lightcaster. I did on a whim (considering feather can), and it’s made a pc panic||
||Oh she's a straight-up Elect. But is keeping it secret for now.||

So I might be getting Roxy art of my fellow party members and making cards for totally non canon IGF NPCs
Where is Adam Sandler's In Goldem Flames. I need it
my friend who ships my pilot/Jerry ship enthusiastically is in London now as a tourist
tbh the three should meet after crafted a life size Jerry statuary and leave it on vex’s doorstep
see now you're beginning to understand the idea. more statuary is never a bad idea
saw the Incomprehensible Memetic Subculture screenshot in the wild again
Hell yeah
Which one
Suddenly I wonder igf npcs’ mbti and other personality classifications
personality classifications?
homestuck classpecting but for normies.
Ooooooooh. I had forgetten this was a thing.
what a way to describe it
You're right but you don't have to say it
homestuck classpecting for normies…
Homestuck classpecting for business majors.
All ready for ||A Face To The Name, many thanks to Al /Imp for the map! ||
Here's the steam cone effect I made for it:
Yooo you made that!? That's awesome, how'd you do it?
Embergen, it's a super cool but somewhat expensive realtime VFX software. I still recommend anyone that's even slightly interested to check out the free trial just because it's nuts. This is relatively low effort compared to what's possible...
here are my other low effort contributions:
And something specifically for blast 1 smoke grenades:
i feel like the famous pixellated explosion vfx would be really useful for a particular kind of IGF game
yeah this one
haha, I've been dropping my big looping fire on every mech reactor explosion when I should* have been using this the whole time
i've seen this all over the internet, it's a classic
i'm pretty sure it even has a cameo in super lesbian animal RPG
Yo, fellow SLARPG enjoyer?
But yeah, it has a few cameos in it.
||here's my version of the starmap modified from Al/Imps fantastic base and as of the end of Act 1 (I'm adding the stations as players visit them). I really wanted to make my interior map of the Dragons Tooth actually fit the hard-scifi "tail sitter" vibe (it turns out that's the name for a ship that generates artificial gravity from its acceleration). The core of the interior map is from the Cervantes from https://0-hr.com/SF/Vol_4/index.htm but it's modified to fit 5 mech bays||
HOLY FUCK THAT LOOKS COOL, I DIDNT EVEN RECOGNISE IT WAS MY MAP COS OF THR SMOKE AND LIGHTING
Yoooo
And thar map is also a glow up. But thing is I also made an upgrade to the map but idk if I uploaded it :P. I'll have to do that in a week when I get back to me PC
haha tbh you did all of the hard work on both, I just sprinkled on the juice at the end. I didn't even place my own lights on the battlemap, I just put them where they were on yours
. I already know I'm gonna struggle in Act 2 without your maps to fall back on
Hey don't get ahead of yourself
I haven't finished act 1
I'll try get working on act 2 when I can
I'll have to do it in playtest before my game starts cos like... the moment I start act 2 if I start making maps then there's WAAAAY TOO MANY TO MAKE
Damn ye Vex for making cool module with so many combats
it's just too cool and there's no such thing as enough effort it feels like, every week I tell myself I'll just take it easy and I still somehow end up spending 2-3 days on prep
My session prep is like... either the whole evening multiple evenings of a week or literally nothing
and that's somehow without even making the battlemaps myself
When my players ||Met the Crone and revealed the entire sitreps and rosters. I also revealed all the maps. I just went "ok heres all the battlemaps theyre public pages in foundry now. And my other GM friend was like "sorry what? Ok thats cool and also just the GM showing off their maps all at once"||
It would be a lie if I said he wasn't right lmao
I can't wait until (if) I start running IGF for another party soon, and I get more use out of my cool battlemaps!!! (It will be in person so I won't even be able to use the battlemaps lmao)
||Should've just had The Crone say "they're public pages in Foundry"||
And PCs are just like the WHAT
I was more subtle with the 4th wall breaking for the first encounter but I wish I did that now
I love using ||The Crone|| on my players. One of my players screen name is Wurm so when addressing the PC she just goes,
"The wurm in your had tells you to do things, doesn't it dearie? "
I hope I can do more with ||the Crone... I don't wanna force her down the players throats since no PC so far has wanted to ask her more questions or interact with her more than before||
But one of the players has astral stigmata and attune to the world so ||I'm probs gonna show her back to him during downtime after M3, 4 or 5||
Probably a good idea. Show the effects of ticking the clock up more and more.
I'm trying to think of things that I can use for my two players with Astral Stigmata. ||My current plans are to mention the doors in the act 2 draft, potentially if they go to the icebreaker mention them looking at a train track and seeing them fighting on it for the mission 2 for if they failed the objectives, another plan I want to say is if the players discuss stuff OC and make an IC plan from it I'll make it aware that those 2 PCs are aware cannot remember at all what was said but now with utmost clarity after a 5 second conversation that was had just now they can't remember anything about it but they know the conclusion of it||
||I like the ide of the sharing of knowledge leading to a bleeding effect of subconscious. For example, one of my players is secretly a shared form of both her two alt timeline selves from an event back on Nestor. They don't know it yet but they were the ones that handed the VIP back on Nestor to Jerry's party back on Nestor. The detonation happened in both timelines to a Napoleon. Meaning the conciousness of her as both the UIB and the DOJ Agent are merged. Leading to several alternate personalities talking to her in her head aka Disco Elysium style. If her Astral Stigmata keeps ticking up, more voices are going to bleed to her party members. They can't hear all of them yet, but each player can hear one voice when it talks.||
Also, one of my players just made Zinfandel's mech and I adore it.
I love the big ass canon and the idea she uses it to BRRRT across the space is great
Need to think of their callsign tho
"Zin"
They probably had another call sign once but everyone just calls them Zin now
Oh, thanks Vex. You the best!
I simply adore doing this in my game so I thought to share the idea. For Gm's if you want to include this idea of a "B Team" for your own party of NPC's the party enjoy and know from the Gate, lead by Zinfandel. The idea started in the game I play in where members of the militia get KIA'd in an op before the party is called in. Makes the situation vastly more dire and gives Zinfandel a lot more agency. They feel bad an op cost people lives and now she's going to lead this new team while the party does their own thing.
Someone has to stand guard while the PC's get to visit all the exotic places in Calliope.
New NPC for my run of in golden flame whos one of my players connections
Lucky Buck, Callsign Cashcow
"Nobody wants Lucky Buck, but everyone eventually needs him."
They gave such an aura
Hes a greasy, black market distributor and arms dealer
"i sell mechs, weapons, ships, tools, prosthetics, files and data, hell I'll even sell you this abandoned NHP. Won't sell organics though. You need another guy for that shit"
I love the slightly out of frame "fucked up" in the corner
LMAOO
Reminds me of cerulean already in the list of table NPCS in hell's gate. But they are more a fence of stolen goods than raw black market deals
Always gotta be a lil greasy in Calliope
It's all the oiling of parts that need to be replaced. It gets everywhere
WHAT THE FUCK WHY ARE HERE???
SHOO
You can't exactly talk : p
HEY! I need the meterial for my players for act 2 >:(
I am but an innocent little bnuy

lmao
You are anything but my guy
Sunzi crimes have done irreparable damage to my psyche, and retribution shall come in kind
On the one hand:

On the other:

Bring it on.
~~ this is the part you send Surrya in the operator for the emotional damage, isn't it?~~
Loads future encounter with malicious intent
Fuck
_Well, time to load up the redemption arc again. _
I am getting Ana's sister back, Stron. I am going to give us BOTH emotional damage >:C
cannot wait for our devious plans with surayya
||ignatius|| being in the mix now is fucked but many of the same things should be able to be done
Shan family can't catch a break. 💔
My favorite part about it is ||her existence is fucking with the party's plans for Ignatius. They want to leave him for dead in the middle of the Terra Incognita but they know Surayya is going to turn on them if they try to kill him. They're right! For the wrong reasons. They just think she's going to have second thoughts about murdering an "innocent" man.||
Mission 3 is going to be APESHIT
question for you all here
does anybody have a "clean" version of the text that describes the Faith of the One? In terms of explaining their beliefs without all the extra stuff
Clean as in without spoilers?
Cause I think the closest you can get is annabelles explanation at the end of ch4
If not there are paragraphs in the preamble before ch1 text
You guys are simply not prepared for what I'm going to throw at my players in Mission 4
twelve metric pounds of tangible shitposts
real mission 4 moments
Just a couple more weeks until my group tries this little lancer "oneshot" I've been promising to run
is this anything
I wish you luck 🤞
and self indulgent ver with my group + annabelle lol
I love IGF campaign memes
I'd like to shout out my goat @vestal bison for once again providing banger art for the 🌟 Star Fire Team 🌟 members.
Charlotte Montaigne

Shit that reminds me, I only posted it in the other channel. Here, Minor ch1 NPC / one of my PCs, Kraken! Thanks again R0xy ❤️
We appreciate Kraken in this server
kraken!!
am I understanding "arrange a distraction" in ch 3 correctly? the enemy attention clock has 4 segments and each time that action is taken it is reduced by 2? so if 2 pcs do it the enemy attention clock ceases to exist?
ch3 // ||yeah, that's correct -- if you have more than 4 players, you might want to rebalance the attention clock a little because of that possibility||
||i've found that in general enemy attention seems to barely matter, but that might just be my own parties||
||You could add 2 segments for each additional player (to a total of 8 for 5 players and 10 for 6 players as an example)||
So one of my players is KTB Pilled
Jerry: Fool/Builder/ Smidge of Pathfinder
Shell: Broker (Organization than leader)
MacArthur: Technician, obviously
Zinfandel: Fool/Pathfinder
Switch: Influencer
Siren: Titan/Firebrand
Striga: Harlequin
Calamity: Wolf
Chapter 2
Rita: Broker
Fayad Harb: Firebrand/Technician
Kileyna Morton: Builder
Loki: Harlequin
Howl: Wolf/Titan/Influencer
Jon Jonsson: Broker
Gabriel Sparrow: Firebrand/Broker
Claryana Rowdley: Celebrant
Chapter 3:
Mistress Elske: Celebrant/Firebrand
Canaan Zhou: Seneschal
Clip Magazine: Titan/Wolf
Anastasia Shan: Technician/Pathfinder
Ratio Salvager: Harlequin/Broker
The Blacksmith: Titan/Firebrand/Seneschal
Antagonists:
Capella: Wolf/Titan
Evelina Bondarchuk: Knave/Broker
Ignatius Aurum: Magus
Rodrick Steele: Knave/Celebrant```
IIRC Jerry and Zinfandel were actually planned to get their own bonds in act 2
||Survivor|| and ||Ancient||
was this wurm?
Perhaps
I completely forgoten that was being worked on
Idk if they still are, havent heard anything about them in ages
I'm making some notes for session 1 opening vignettes, rate my Striga rambling:
||“Comrades! Names! Names are what give us immortality, and that's the truth! So long as a name persists, it will never die. Consider; the ancient muse Calliope persists in our collective consciousness, and persists through all of us in this system! We will never die! Genghis! Persists, because Andros Capella makes his own name known through his utterly heinous acts with his own. And of course, we cannot forget!” She pauses in her speech, to snap a hand quickly through a cracked open vent, returning with a crustacean in hand, its pelt glistening like an oil slick. “Crabs! Carcinization makes life forms immortal, and despite the fact that this is clearly a lobster, we call them 'crabs' anyways! Crabs, like all other names, are immortal!” She pitches the vent crab away, which flails in zero G-confusion as The Truth continues its own free-floating Pilgrimage.||
||The purpose is to layer the hint that Andros is going to be immortal between nonsense||
||Adore it, using the vent crabs to make it sound improbable is a nice touch||
||I just like vent crabs c:||
What if whoever delivers to Hell's Gate's hydroponic bays is called Seedy Walkman
PFFFFFF
I have devised a rude easter egg for ||Event Horizon||
Minions named ||Agoraphobia, Nyctophobia, Ophidiphobia and Ommetaphobia - as these are phobias I know four of the players have||
||one of them does not have a phobia I know of, so it works out, since he himself freaked out at the idea that there are 'two' cascading NHPs in Calliope||
||Metasuperscandephobia?||
||So apparently rampant is a term from French, from a root which means to climb, to which the equivalent Latin root seems to be scand-? So, meta- (transcending, because it's the player's fear) -superscande- (climbing to the highest degree, i.e. going rampant) -phobia (fear of). There's probably a more elegant way to put it, but I don't have the necessary resources to talk about it cause I never took Latin.||
||While fair, even at 5 players, Caustic only has 4 buddies; the Goliath, the Mirage, the Ronin, and the Hive||
||So the idea is that that player's 'phobia' is represented by Caustic existing in a mech, while inside a metafold||
I also just realized; none of my players have picked frames/licenses that grab NHPs as their level 3.
@fallen geyser didn't you make up a name for ||phobia of NHPs for the Switch thing in Can You See the Doors||?
Daemonophobia
...
yeah that works
My life for Throne Karrakis
Is there a draft of Doors anywhere?
none released afaik
actually yeah Im extensively using doors as a mechanic in my game, that would be amazing to have
Is it ever stated what kind of ships the Knights of the Dark Core and the Burning Forge operate? I'd imagine local Calliope outlaws like them are generally limited to clippers and weaponised freighters, maybe a corvette as a flagship
Which is kinda funny, I was planning this side mission with Striga, and just about every GM I've seen here so far introduced her with some strange vent-crab obsession.
I did too, my PCs were busy investigating missing Pipe-cleaner Subalterns down the stormdrain on Asphodel during her side-mission
Over her so called "reliable soundtrack evidence of an intelligent vent crab hive-mind" ||The chittering sound was just a cult printing press||
||I was planning for her final arc to be the PCs actually discovering hyper-intelligent vent crabs forming a proto-hivemind over industrial biowaste||
||Striga would be so disappointed by the previous failures to discover smart-crabs and assume they are only humoring her, thus turning the PCs into rambling conspiracy theorists and inverting their dynamic, really looking forward to the big reveal||
Gonna try that this week: an over-caffeinated and under-slept Striga is precisely the image Vex would want to see!
Never stated, your instincts sound good though. Elske's flagship, ||the Lance of Shadow|| is mentioned in act 2, but no classification is given. It, and any other ships, are as big and powerful as you need them to be. Just note that in act 2, ||the HA and KTB vessels include references to Lancer: Battlefleet, and they should all be big fish in this little pond. Pirates shouldn't have anything that can challenge them, especially as a group||
Oh and by the way merging the role of the ||Crone and Ignatius Aurum|| worked really well for me, puts the Cult leader into perspective, and somehow tricked my PCs into thinking that ||Feather-the-time-travelling-ship and Aurum are practically time-looping in Calliope to achieve some incomprehensible future ("They're definitely going to establish the Fourth Committee") down the line, yeah that will surely work out for them||
Yup, it was looking through Act 2 that got me thinking about the types of ships they have. ||Especially with the various fleets rolling around during Act 2||
Outside of the UNS-CV Thames, I expect local forces to top out at like a Corvette as a flagship, maybe a Frigate if they're better funded. ||possibly Impact Dynamics defence fleet? Steele seems like the kind of guy who'd buy a mothballed capship and have it running at half efficiency but absolutely plastered in shinies to threaten people with.||
I think it's mentioned in Act 1 that ||the Impact Dynamics fleet had the numbers to take on the Thames if it came to a fight|| so ID probably has a decent amount of escort Corvettes at the least.
saw a silly stock image and i knew i had to draw a Situation (ch4 spoilers?)
Cat||stic||
thats a dog 😔
a tibetan mastiff specifically . on account of the guard dog realnessr
IT IS
Mas||stic|| then?
i love my gm sekiyo's interpretation of ||caustic||
mas||stic||………
A mastiff ||caustic||...
the issue is ||Impact Dynamics is under a fuel embargo. They have a significant military wing it's just currently grounded and they need what fuel they can get to run shipments||
Yeah, those ships aren't going anywhere. Just thinking about how to describe them if it does come up
Also I like spaceships and thinking about spaceships.
very valid
I'd say it's probably ||bigger than any of the pirate fleets but wouldn't stand up to any of the incoming fleets||
The Faith ||seems to have a pretty decent fleet as well, though it's also mentioned they've got operations outside Calliope as well. Though I am assuming the subline vessels pictured in the art for the approach to Fort Cerberus are Cult Vessels rather than Hell Hound ones||
||Not counting Act 2 stuff||

I am making the GM decision that ||Odin Valentian|| was involved, or at least on the board with the HA program that made Yon, one of my pcs. If only to give ||Loki|| a hook
Mainly because ||Odin|| really does give off that much of a terrible person vibe
hmmm
would it be mean to make my party fight ||bad star|| even if they haven't ||filled enough of the enemy attention clock||?
i'm only considering it because one of my PCs ||moonlights as a mechfighter|| and i figured there could be some fun interactions there
I feel like ||Bad Star|| is a cool enough fight that I'd want to run it either way.
Maybe with an escape clause for the players so they can choose to evac without penalty during the fight, ||or they can stay and beat up this loser and steal his shotgun||
what if i just drop him into ||roadblock||? 🤔
maybe get rid of all the regular reinforcements to compensate
ohohoho it'd be really funny if he recognizes my PC because they're trying to hide their identity during this mission
Make him an optional fight inside it. Keep the normal opfor, have him show up when the PCs are close to done running the obj. They can extract and leave him in the dust or stick around and fight him if they're feeling brave/greedy.
see i feel like they'd almost certainly choose to just extract if he shows up too late
I'd give them some incentive. Maybe have one of the allies call and offer them something in exchange for ||giving Bad Star the beating he deserves and embarrass Steele live on stream||.
I haven't run it yet so I can't speak as to balance, but dropping a ||boss fight in the middle of an escort|| doesn't seem the most well balanced thing to do.
As an ||Ultra, Bad Star|| kind of demands the attention you'd want your players to be giving the objective
|| Isn't tainting Steele's for A LONG time reward enough? The prick deserves it ||
|| But seriously, maybe a few reserves for the next mission, something that Elske could provide or something like that ||
hmmmmmmmm
||You could have Switch do a reaction stream of Bad Star getting dunked with your team getting a cut of the superchats/donations||
It's what I'm planning to do.
maybe the incentive could be ||beating up bad star prevents him from exposing the PC's identity on stream||?.... not sure how to make that work
also my party are not switch fans lol
Howl could be another source of incentives if they're acquainted with her.
||the mechfighter PC has a one-sided rivalry with howl|| so i don't think that'll work either haha
Mechanically, having it be an optional side thing they can do for Reserves, Funds/Downtime Progress, and or Exotic Gear should be enough to motivate most players.
Either that or just running the combat because you want to and you think your players will enjoy it.
Another possibility is flagging him up as a target of opportunity whose defeat will ||weaken Steele and they get a bonus for beating before they reach the Dome, then have Steele rant about how his pet Gladiator is on the way to beat them up||. Then they can choose to go confront him or to skedaddle and skip it out.
hmmmmm ok i have a possible idea
||the mechfighter PC is actually skipping a fight with howl to join the steele dome raid, and their manager is freaking out||
||so if bad star immediately recognizes mechfighter PC and exposes them, maybe the manager can call them and tell them to beat up bad star on stream to compensate for all the negative publicity they're getting for not showing up to the howl fight||
||Howl is playing up the whole hero of the diaspora angle (and she does live up to it long term), so skipping out on a fight to go rescue the people is a fun way of drumming up good publicity. ||
yeah the more i think about it, the more i like this
||I like it, if you go for that angle it makes her bits in Act 2 even better. When she calls on the party to help take down Impact Dynamics it can feed back into more fun interactions with the Mechfighter player character||
yeah! i was definitely thinking it would be neat if in act 2 ||she tells the mechfighter PC they inspired her to take more direct action||
And if they delay ||helping her it makes her callout to them even more personal||
I don't have solid numbers for this but I'm willing to bet ||more GMs have run Bad Star because it's cool than have run it because the players actually filled out the attention clock. It's a lot like how Railroaded in chapter 2 is pretty difficult for a team to meet the requirements for, but it gets run anyway a lot of the time simply because who wants to miss out on the badass train fight? ||
Didn't run ||railroaded|| but did run ||Bad Star|| with an empty attention clock, so there's a data point
Same for me, and several games I've seen. Part of it is that the ||Arrange a Distraction Journey Prep action can immediately make it impossible to have to fight Bad Star. The other part is that it's pretty easy to finish the journey without ticking any attention clock ticks if you want to.||
I heavily intend to push and feed my players hints so that they go through ||Anti-Capital and Bad Star||.
The boss encounters look like a ton of fun to run.
Nevermind the attention clock, fight him.
is there something like a "player's guide" for IGF? i'm guessing the "welcome to calliope" chapter would be it
Yeah, Welcome to Calliope chapter is what I gave my players.
I ran ||Bad Star with no reinforcements as a knowingly not-very-difficult encounter because I figured the players would want it 😅 ||
mission 4
My party's run at ||The Swarm||, before and after pic. Jacquerel's map.
3 PC party but I threw the 5 PC opfor at them and they still crushed it
due to unfortunate scheduling you have amanged to use that map before me, so I hope it works well 😅
Guilty as charged, I run ||Bad Star|| cause he's too good to pass up
big rip but the map was good!
writing more vignette notes (notes have been slow because Dawntrail)
||a line from Shelly in case a PC thinks to try and harvest Severance Pay for printer parts: “Please do not manhandle my body like that, let it stew.”||

ch5 is kicking off quite well, ||The party specifically asked me, Void. Can you post both Switch and Loki's art again? Followed by a group shouting FUCK||
I need to make a lot of low-key food puns with her or I feel like i've failed some higher purpose
Me with showing Zinfandel a lot of love as the B team commander.
I just finished running Denial of Service and damn that was rougher than I expected.
||S1GN4L|| was an absolute pain for them to deal with, and single handedly destroyed one of my player's mechs with improvised attacks ||after they got exposed from firing their thermal lance||.

||S1GN4L's|| always a bastard but I've never heard of him picking up a kill on his own
That's hilarious
Mine paid him the funds from ||Snack Run|| so he can come back to the gate and fix shit
Mine threatened to doxx him if he didn't give them the printcodes for his mech-scale cowboy hat
My SRT neglected the control points for the first two rounds and started panicking, so most of them were on the far end of the Sitrep from ||S1GN4L|| who had been dragged away from his support.
It came to a point where there was nothing for me to teleport, and so I had him hacking and ramming the party sniper.
After she stayed prone and kept missing him due to absolutely jacked invisibility rolls and poor hit rolls on the players part, he just started whaling on her mech with Improvised Attacks, which I described as him holding a rock between two cracked screens and going ham with it.
Hit an exposed mech, structured, and she got stunned. He did it twice the next turn and she rolled a 1 on her second structure and failed the hull save.
Unfortunately ||S1GN4L didn't survive||. My party absolutely wanted him dead.
Which was a shame because I did have some ideas of how to use him again if he did escape.
I might put in some more pilot gear and maybe give the option for the players to grab the Madrigal Boarding stuff from Dustgrave with funds on the Icebreaker, I had some pilots running around in that combat and they seemed to like the ability to dismount as a tactical option (especially with two mechs downed during that fight).
the fit™ @fallen geyser
Huggable and Hoistable (with permission)
they are absolutely of throwable size but they would probably bite you
no bite, only hoisties
Anybody got assets or ideas for making (mission 4 spoilers) ||the spire room for pressure point/the swarm?|| interpoint mapmaker if it matters, not isometric or anything
Do you mean ch4 with the ||Boltzman mine?||
I have some maps I saved in my backpocket, if you want them I can dm them to ya
sure! thanks
I managed to dig up an asset pack i grabbed years ago for something else entirely and cobbled this together
Free to use if anyone needs it! Fits a size 5/blast 2 area with an extra hex sticking out from each corner. I just dropped it in foundry as a tile but I don't see any reason you couldn't go directly through the interpoint tool
I need permanent marker instead of just using a whiteboard pen
But this is a prop I require for when I start running sessions for my new party
That's amazing
that's beautiful
I want to get into cosplay and know I shouldn't go right into the deep end so I wanna start with Jerry cos he seems super easy
Alright. I am doing major GM prep right now for Ch5 fights and I am blatantly stealing an Idea from Stron from our game that during || Break the Line || I am having NPCs come in as helping the PC as the enemies also get some reinforcements.
I will push a few more enemies in to even the odds since they are getting a little list of power houses.
First Round: The Plums, Pitter Patter let's get at her.
Zinfandel (Vet Comm. Deluge)
Calamity Havok (Vet. Pirate Berserker)
Second Round: Favors Called In
Charlotte (Custom NPC): (Exotic Comm. Mirage)
Rosalyn Taylor: (Merc Slinger)
Third Round: Furnace City Favorites
Anastasia: (Vehicle Support)
Clip Magazine: (Vet. Marine Scourer)
nice!
My friend is also joining a IGF game and their GM finds some mug with “retire earlier” printed on them on a shopping website, said: this is actually Jerry’s mug🤣
fuck you (furrifies your ||prometheus||)
(||based her off a golden eagle because Yeah||)
(||couldn't resist giving her some decorative feathers though||)
And it begins
This player stolea chunk of the ||Tachyon NHP Core|| amd wants an NHP out of it so.....
token for ||Ignatius's mech in|| Ch.3 since ||our players fucking recruited him to help take down the Steele Dome.||
Named ||Reconciliation||
i sent this to our players as a reference image and got this response
@amber viper I was told you might be interested in this
||Our version of Ana's sister's mech for Ch.3||
Oooh...
||A couple other versions, for our party's future post-Ch.5 encounters with her||
plushie...
Her Calliopean name is Plushie Soft because Switch helped her think of a new name than what she remembers was her name.
White haired individual to White Haired Individual communication.
"What? Come on, look at her! She's never stab you in a backalley to die of blood loss, chat. she's harmless. Soft and cuddly! Like a plushie"
plushie soft!!!
||She's going to be an NHP mom to Plume, a fragment of Feather's casket from the Tachyon she totally didn't swipe :)||
brilliant
I'm getting Mission 2 ready for my group, and realizing there's something I'm probably missing there: Why are Loki, Nyambose, and co. actually in Calliope?
Truck stop + Calliopean Coincidence Field
90% of the reason anyone who isn't staying is in Calliope
ah, that makes sense
finished making a more comprehensive ref for a particular au version of my pc
somewhere during the process of drawing this i ended up exceeding 100 layers somehow so that's fun
This fucks severely.
I love the clasped hands
you know they had to do it to em etc etc
thank you!!
BY THE WAY the constellation designs are Lynx and Phoenix
(fun fact there are apparently million ways to draw the lines between the constellation phoenix's stars?? i went with the wikipedia infobox image)
huh
DMs with one of my players.
||I'd actually also in advance given one of the pilots in the fight with Andros at the end of CH1 the callsign Cerberus as well. But when this detail dropped, I contemplated whether or not to keep it that as a symbolic 'he takes the callsigns of those he kills' thing, or changing it. I landed on changing it, and putting a pilot named 'Church' in there, who is one of the other PC's 'sisters'||
CH1 for my group officially launches in 2 hours, and I'm a bundle of nerves.
Just breathe.
Inhale.
Count to four.

Who is the Sexy Goblin?
Find out next episode on In Golden Flame
brb putting "Sexy Goblin" into my notes for later
Warning Spoilers: I'm approaching the end of CH1 with my group and my HA player is currently mildly panicking over HA potentially coming for him to find a mech he absconded with on accident (||This is unrelated to Switch BTW||) and my Hacker pilot is starting to have crazy dreams and is about to discover that he was ||on board the Tachyon when Feather cascaded and was punted into the blink||. So looking forward to that session and future ones. 🙂

Writeup incoming
Opening Vignettes:
||They immediately bashed their heads.
Dr. Roselor had a touching scene at the militia wall with Zinfandel Dejean, who's not great at giving eulogies, over the recent death of Kore Bolting-Andreassi. A bit of light improv there, where i kinda struggled to find ttheir voice, but it worked.
Farvicule had a scene in central fabrication, wherein I offered him a shot at diagnosing the printer (He got a high result, and as such, I said the name of the part needed). After reporting this to McArthur, and a moment of miscommunication wherein she thought Farvicule had touched 'Sevvy.' The conversation hard cut after he asked what to do with the vent crab corpses he'd collected.
Our poor boi Switch nearly got knifed by Yon, who just wanted to interview her. They were unable to get much meaningful answers out of her, before accidentally triggering her by mentioning 'being alone'. Alisha came by and swiftly dismissed them.
Lorelei got jumpscared by Frita coming out of a rats nest of cables, declaring 'PILGRIMAGE!' and then gave her spiel that I posted the other day.
And Ringabel chatted awkwardly with Mikaela at GMS_Generic_Bar, with Mikaela trying to sell her on bodymods, dropping that she has a contact in the Icebreaker for SSC work, and swiftly exited the conversation.||
Briefing and followup:
||The Briefing went smoothly, got to use all three bits of extra red text as appropriate, with a rather pathetic-sounding Jerry voice. His tie was the flamingo one, and Ringabel was trying to google what the hell a flamingo was. After some deliberation, it was decided that they were going on the food run.
At Impact Plaza, they got to deal with Becky, wherein I tried my best to imitate the tone and inflection of Deb the sentient patch of haze. Some attempts to dox her were made to lower the price, and ultimately what tipped the scales was firing on the penile sword, and then having Farvicule volunteer to buff out the dent so that Steele wouldn't be angry. - full negotiations, so they get Funds||
Combat: ||Spitting Distance
This was a combination of a clusterfuck, and all sorts of things running smoothly. Me forgetting that Berserkers had resistance without status ailments worked meant that the main Berserker got absolutely rinsed. I did get to gravity rifle someone off the freighter, but my undoing was also in that I put four guys in one ingress zone.
And forgot that Ringabel had a Thermal Lance. So the second set of guys got rinsed in one shot, the best use of a Thermal lance I've sever seen.
On the whole, a lot of things ran smoothly. Did have Crimson Lago (Veteran Cataphract) call out Ringabel saying 'I thought we got rid of the rest of you' referring to the fact that she showed up with several other identical flash clones of herself. ||
End of Combat
||Eventually, the starting archer was sitting there with 1 HP, 6 Heat, and just said 'fuck it' threw up the equivalent of a white flag protocol, and started to flee the battlefield. And ended his movement next to an asteroid - Yon proceeded to underslung grenade launcher that asteroid, killing a surrendering, fleeing opponent.
Crimson Lago and Cluster (Commander Hive) then surrendered when they were the last one on the battlefield – no amount of pay is worth this. Ringabel proceeded to have an out-of-cockpit chat with Lago about what he said, wherein he dropped the juicy tidbit about how the assorted flash clones freaked the fuck out of some of the hell hounds, especially Capella, and as such, he put a bounty on all their heads. Because of them actually sparing his life, Lago promised not to report seeing any 'white-faced bell-wearing freaks.'
Upon returning to Hell's Gate, Farvicule tried swinging a torque wrench at Yon while screaming about firing on surrendering opposition, which missed, and embedded itself in her mech's leg. Yon coldly shot him in the foot, and drew her knife, Ringabel wanted to get involved, Roselor gave her uppies to prevent that, and then set her aside to rush forward and dose Yon with some form of anasthesia to calm her down. Farvicule nearly pulled out the Dog's Leg (a sawn off shotgun) before McArthur entered blaring an airhorn. She gave both of them a dressing down, and ordered Yon and Farvicule be taken to the brig, and I quote 'I don't fucking care what that Harrison Armory bitch says, her charge fired a fucking weapon in a pressurized fucking hangar bay and for that, she gets brig time.”
Next session, minor court martialling, and we get to go meet S1GN4L||
I got to act very very angy
sadly, realistically we're probably only going to get to do one combat a session
That's pretty standard for most lancer sessions
Oh right, song chosen for Combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhkry532xUs
Oh that is goooood
Im prepping to dm this campaign and God I have to say I adore the creator for how much effort they put into writing the world building
Like seeing details even about the signature musical genre of calliope makes me just so giddy
Ive got this song as well that just captures the vibe of the setting for me that I can't wait to use ? Im just so excited to run this honestly
And we're glad to have you as another gm for the module. We got plenty of resources to use, custom things to work with and always happy to answer and questions if need be or give feedback. Adore the song and hope to see what your party comes up with in characters!
a section of my notes just said this,
it made perfect sense in context, but was funny when I realized what I'd written
(spoiler for the start of act 2)
What
pffff
||I had Odin, his children, and the SRT go for kebabs after he arrived at Hell's Gate. They'd been talking to him over omninet for a while, so it kinda made sense. I made this choice to introduce the "Odin doesn't eat prime numbers of things" bit of characterization, because it's awesome, and get some time to introduce Tyr and Thor. I then had him make his offer to the twins: "I know you want more independence, so do this one experiment for me, and I'll help you do whatever you want with the rest of your lives", which resulted Switch getting understandably upset, and Loki feeling really conflicted||
ok, fuckit, I'm proud of this scene, here's the full text of what he said
||
Od:
Having you leave me has put some things in perspective. I understand that you want your independence, and probably some distance from me.
Simultaneously, with the Chameleon Anomaly in hand, we could very well be on the precipice of acheiving everything we set out to do. It would be a tragedy if after all that strife, we threw away everthing we sacrificed for at the last hurdle.
I can't do this experiment without you, so here's what I propose: you help me this one last time, and afterward, regardless of the experiment's success or failure, you have my full support in doing whatever you want with your lives. No more having to run away form me, and I'll make sure the Armory won't interfere. You want to go back to Ras Sharma with an honorable discharge? It's yours. You want your stream un-banned from Armory Space? I'll pull some strings.
Just tell me what you want to do, and I'll do everthing in my power to make it happen.
Sw:
That's not an apology. That's a fucking recruitment speech! Well, I don't know what I fucking expected. Of course your idea of a compromise is us giving you exactly what you want.
Od:
And I'm offering exactly what YOU want. This is mutually beneficial. All I'm asking right now is that you think it over.
Sw:
NO. You already have my answer. Fuck you, old man. You are NOT dragging me into this again.
||
Ah, that situation
That seem about right for that situation. Didn't know you were in the opening hours of act 2
Yeah! it's exciting. We're about to start the ||HA (Calm) and House Aniline (Unrest)|| chapters in parallel as one of my players has a weird work schedule and can't make half of the weeks. She has a big emotional investment in the ||HA arc because she is friends with Lyra (who has been using a false identity, I'm looking forward to that reveal)|| (on the off chance one of my players are here, don't look under that second spoiler)

will do! I only just learned what chapters they are doing, so I'll hit you up if I encounter any snags in fleshing those out!

i'm going a little stir-crazy because my campaign hasn't run in a couple weeks
this animated map for ||event horizon|| isn't too disorienting, is it?...
hmm maybe the framerate should be lower
I would say much slower actually.
yeah maybe one frame per second
maybe I can add crossfades between them too
ok this seems a lot easier on the eyes
Much better
i'm still unsure what mechanics i want to use for this map
||i want the bits that fade in and out to do something, but idk what

Source: The calliope system
Instructions unclear, tried to hotswap out a coldcores muon catalyser
Listen, transitioning from cosmic horror to sci-fi horror with giant mutant vent crabs is a fantastic idea
If only because I want to put one in a box and send it to Rodericke Steele
now I want to make an animation like this but based on cellular automata to use as a scene. Mapping cells to game grids so you see life evolving under your feet. OOH I WANNA DO A CELLULAR AUTOMATA WHERE EACH LANCER ROUND TRIGGERS THE NEXT GENERATION WITH LIVE CELLS BEING DANGEROUS TERRAIN SO EVERYBODY HAS TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE CA RULES
it is a cellular automaton actually! i had to look up a suitable rule for hexagonal grids
in hindsight i probably should've tried to find a lower period oscillator than 20 😅
also dangerous terrain CA sounds hilarious, i think i might steal that for my personal homebrew campaign :P
I have no idea what you two are talking about but I think it's very neat you are excited about it.
Cellular automata are simple programs usually run on a grid that use a small number of very basic rules to create large chaotic systems wiuth interesting patterns. The most classic of which is Conways Game of Life, a CA defined by the rules 3/23: If a cell has three alive neighbors, it becomes alive. If a cell has 2 or 3 neighbors, it stays alive. anything else, it dies/stays dead. You then make some cells alive to start and rapidly apply the rules over and over. The result is a fascinating collection of chaos and patterns. Some shapes are stable, some lock into cycles, some seem like meaningless chaos.
different rules lead to different patterns and structures, and you can create rules for a hex grid as well which naturally leads to different effects.
Huh.
I apologize, I wish I had more to contribute to the conversation aside my unfamiliarity to the topic.
no problem! It's a bit of a niche math/compsci topic.
THE FINAL SHAPE
I feel like this is a topic Striga fascinates on while downing vent crab ramen at the Happy Noodle
"felicitations, comrades! i am excited to announce that vent crabs have been proven turing-complete! if you will just follow me to the physical implementation of rule 110 in the sector 5 colony--"
Some shellfish, like Conus textile here, grow shells in a pattern that maps to a cellular automata. The shell grows along one edge with pigment cells that follow rules to activate and deactivate based on neighbors. This effectively forms a 1d CA mapped to rule 30 (described mathematically as an interesting ruleset by Stephen Wolfram in 1983 who had never heard of the animal) , with each generation plotted across the shell.
"That is to say comrades, it's the growth patterns of vent crab carapace on which we've managed to evoke a turing complete system! My good friend and bitter rival Kraken is working on actually training the animals to form NAND gates for turing completeness, but The Truth published first!"
Bonus fun fact! Conus textile (and cone snails in general) are both predatory and also wildly venomous
"News, comrades! The genetic tweaks we performed to affect the chromatophores of Vent Crabs have successfully allowed us to create bioorganic turing strip simulations on their carapace! Additionally, these changes have also made the Vent Crabs both predatory, and wildly venomous!"

"SRT, bad news. I appears that, because Striga and the Dorks....er, sorry. "Truth" ™️ did something funky to the Vent Crab population they are raiding food stocks and claiming hab blocks. I need you to get rid of their nests deeper in the Gate."
One chapter later and the SRT has to explain why they had to fight the Vent Crab Queen in the void while falling down to stigia. Yes, Siren did have to mag dump into her shell for them to enter the second stage of the boss fight.
Update on the vent crab situation: We have figured out what they're computing. They've got pi down to 13 digits now, and the hive in 3 charlie has discovered a new type of glider gun.
the SRT goes to ||boltzmann|| and discovers ||TRIPLEPOINT|| was actually 20,000 vent crabs in a trenchcoat
Can't believe they carcinized mission 4
The secret ending to IGF is you find the one computer room where there is just a vent crab controlling everything on a console.
There is a door here.
"It was me, SRT. I was the one that broke the printer."
The game credits role with a low poly vent crab model spinning to a tasteful cover of Freebird on eletric kazoo
"Good news, friends and comrades! The vent crabs have figured out how to actively engage the chromatophore cell edits we committed, and can now render themselves nearly invisible with active camoflage!"
Striga, in what POSSIBLE way is that GOOD news?
"Well, it seems comrade Kraken is having trouble finding their trained vent crabs now, which should give us an advantage in our race to see who can run doom on them first."
the fun thing about cellular automata is that it's a thing you can compute on pencil and paper if you'd like to
if you have a stack of graph paper and several hours of free time you can work out the entire r-pentomino life cycle by yourself
I cant think about cell automata without destiny lore crashing into my head, peak fiction
is there an unofficial music playlist for IGF?
there have been some spotify lists, but mostly it's been random youtube links in these threads. I've made dozens of playlists, sometimes making lists for individual scenes... I haven't had the brainpower to start compiling an actual list
https://www.technologyreview.com/2012/04/12/186779/computer-scientists-build-computer-using-swarms-of-crabs/

Logic gates that exploit the swarming behaviour of soldier crabs have been built and tested in Japan
Is this a Calliope canon event
THEY CARCINIZED COMPUTERS
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
not intentionally, but now that you've posted this I remember that article. There's a lot of animals and other things people have managed to turn into turing complete systems.
I was finishing up my compsci degree when that got published lol
the real question is can they build a functional crab-based NAND gate
Yeah, what kind of nerd would know anything about the Game of Life...
...y.yeah...
I made this in memory of S1GN4L, deceased in my run. He took down an Everest with a rock and his fists.
After emptying out almost all of the party's repairs ro get their mechs back in fighting shape, they're currently on the way to the Tachyon.
I'm sad, my player whose character was a child on Impact Plaza when Capella murdered the striking workers isn't available for a pretty long while. ||Good thing we can have a rematch even if he missed the first one||
Ch3 is going to be very cathartic for them
Yep, his backstory involves growing up amongst the Burning Forge so it's going to be his time in the spotlight.
I'm looking forward to Act 2 and have no idea what they'll end up prioritising as they have links to all 4 options
act 2 offers so much to a party to finally answer some of the worst problems hurting calliope and some new ones too boot.
Fun Fact: Did you know that NPC rams can players prone? Another fun fact: Did you know that prone makes **all **attack rolls (Including tech) with +1 accuracy. I discovered this and almost caused a PCs reactor to explode.
Yep, the player mech in the meme was prone during the fight. Unfortunately S1GN4L is size 1/2 and can't keep ramming them.
But a prone target who is exposed and two applications of improvised attacks from a Mirage was enough to structure.
Ah I see. I just had him tech attack attack the PC and he was reduced to 1/4 Stress with 4 Heat spare before he cooked off.
The player was prone and exposed and it was just her and S1GN4L. So he grabbed some rubble and used it as a bludgeon. This killed the mech.
BCL into prone is the reason why Chomolungma is the centimane queen

Not that I've seen. A few people have tried making it.
I plan on getting the stuff soon to try it out, and I'll document my proportions. Unfortunately I can't have barley in my house so I'll have to sub that out for something.
You can probably get similar results with bulgur/kasha. Lemme know how it goes!

Hype for tomorrow. Team gets to meet ||S1GN4L||

Fun times ahead.
My players have finally learned some stuff from Loki, and -
|| After discovering about his dead brother, Baldur, they are now convinced that Loki somehow actually is responsible for Baldur's death and came to Calliope to avoid suspicion. Which, although quite incorrect, I can't say I blame them for given that Loki getting Baldur killed is very much the case in myth. So, interesting to see how they take other clues going forward ||
Celiac, can't do gluten. It'll probably be brown rice. Buckwheat/kasha should be okay but theres problems with cross-contamination from gluten containing grains so it's hard to find a safe source.
This is an interesting twist.
I guess I'm just a fan of subverting the Loki/Baldur myth
In a Norse themed D&D campaign I ran, Loki was a kind, shy boy who was adopted by Odin and relentlessly bullied by Baldur
His only real friend was the blind, frail Hodr
Hodr suffered even worse from Baldur
And eventually this led to Hodr innocently asking Loki to fetch him some mistletoe, since obviously he couldn't identify it by sight
Hodr then shot Baldur, sorta killing him but not wholly because Being A God Is Weird
Loki decided in a fateful instant to lie and say he'd tricked Hodr into it
To spare his friend the blame
He was forced to take up the mantle of deceit, betrayal and lies out of loyalty to his friend
And he's kept the secret for centuries
I'm always a fan of subverting tropes
I love this so much
Also, Loki resents his prophesized role in Ragnarok
"Why the fuck would I want to end the world? I LIVE HERE!"
@fallen geyser heads up, odin's epic monologue (used it in game, pcs loved it) is hidden under the splashpage for the chapter "crisis on chameleon" image
Im so fucking trusting I almost believed that
hey, with the Parallel NPC, what is the intended flavor text in english. Its a lil nonsensical in spanish
this text
The volodor people in lancer speak spanish, and they have a "they say, we say" proverb style. The sunzi has it as well for more examples.
i mean to say, its not proper spanish. so i wanted to know what the english text would say to give a better translation
thats fair
or a note saying this is intentional
My best guess is "its void, which is scary" "its not void, which is much worse" referring to blinkspace
also to be fair the sunzi ones are kinda nonsensical as well looking back at it
truly google translated spanish
I just look at it as 15k years of language change
if you want to get even funnier, you can imagine everybody talking very weird in english and that explains funny rp voices/affectations
#909574961931362365 message
spanish is so fake
being a social construct doesnt mean its fake, just intangible
I think it's meant as "You say: it is empty, and that is scary. We say: It is not empty, and that is much worse."
but I only took like, three years of high school spanish pre-pandemic, so I could very well be mistranslating
session 2 complete
Update?
Session 2: ||Th3 Wr4th 0f S1GN4L
We open in the hangar of Lift With Your Knees, and McArthur asking party members that weren't sent to the brig to access their mech's combat data, in order to try and determine what the fuck set off Farvicule, as in her experience, this is a man who has never so much as cracked a frown.
We then cut to the brig, several hours later, with McArthur asking for why what happened, happened. Bringing up the charges presently against each party member (Assault with a deadly weapon, endangering the crew on board a freighter, threatening assault with a deadlier weapon, etc.) Farvicule quoted a particular part of Calliopean 'law', regarding how a surrendered opponent is to be treated, while Yon's counter statement was regarding just standard rules of war engagement. McArthur addressed that a lot of this could look like a case of negligent discharge, with enough layers of deniability. But, Yon admitted to this – which, honesty worked in her favour.
McArthur cared more about the reputation of Hell's Gate, and them admitting an actual war criminal could damage it further, and as such, made sure the post-combat report read that this was a case of Negligent Discharge. Coincidentally, Yon has been signed up for 2 weeks of air filter maintenance, following a malfunctioning cleaner bot's work,
Ringabel had an existential crisis and chatted with Lorelei for a bit, about the nature of how she felt her very life was threatened by the existence of the Hell Hounds if he's gone so far as to put a bounty on the heads of any of these clones. They supported each other well enough.
Roselor, meanwhile, upon the crew returning to Hell's Gate, got to learn how the militia did. The answer: Decent! Except for the Enkidu piloted by Steph (a legacy lancer character from Roselor's player) which got shredded by deadmetal rounds. Steph herself is a bad state, losing a leg and an eye, and kept sedated due to pain.
Yon is very bad at air filter maintenance, and Farvicule won't teach her how. Rumours are currently flying around as they try to figure out what set Farvicule off.
We had the briefing, and moved onto the combat – Jerry's Tie was the bugs bunny one today.
First off, we had S1GN4L flashbang everyone with the glorious octagon of destiny, before actually moving into the fight itself. ||
Combat: ||Denial of Service
Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd3241fSRos
Lash's Theme, AW: Black Hole Rising
Remembering that people can do other default options, this combat went a whole lot smoother. And a lot deadlier. S1GN4L himself turned out to indeed just, be an absolutely brutal shit disturber, moving people around the place all over, causing heat damage galore, and just being the worst. Every round, at least one person said 'I hate this man even more now.'
Yon: If this guy flees, I'm going to shoot him
Farvicule: I'll look away this time.
The Demolisher laid down a load of hurt all over, at one point even landing a hit on an exposed mech. Our Seeder got some good usage even from beyond the grave. Since, well, mines don't vanish. The Rainmaker did actually get a kill by knocking the exposed mech... into a mine. And a Javelin Missile space. Roselor survived. Anaesthesia did not.
Eventually,t he horde fell around round 5, and S1GN4L remained. His health was okay overall, but... he's a Mirage. Against 4 relatively decent-ish mechs. So he's enroute to grab the first shuttle out of Calliope. Realistically, he's going to Asphodel to just go to ground, since Capella will have his fucking head. And Capella's going to be in the system for a long while, right? ... Right?
The players got the telemetry data, and learned about DRIVETRAIN's project. Ish. Farvicule is convinved they're looking for a HORUS mech.
Next time, we go to Chameleon.||
lash fits so well
Love to see our favorite annoying boi continues to live up to his legacy
My second group ran through the sunbird fight. That thing is such a good bossfight, I love it.
It's a very strong fight and a good mechanical test of skill
I truly don't wish to fob off the blame on someone else, but I got that translation from someone I assume to be a native speaker, because he broke down for me why certain words were chosen
Understanding that this went through a bunch of revision and everyone gave an entirely different translation makes me remember how varied Spanish is. That reply was for the Sunzi flavor text in Long Rim
I apologize regardless
Specifically, he explained that the word choice communicates something even scarier
We say: It is never empty, and that is much worse.```
"Vacio" being the word we use for both Void and Empty really elevates this
I did run it past several different people who speak Spanish
yeah I agree that it works, especially since its on brand with vol spanish being ever so slightly off
does anyone else find it funny how the many different versions of "Spanish" as a language can lead to the same confusion on "Voladore" speech
That awkward moment when the same Metroid Prime OST song could be used for either ||The Tachyon|| or ||Boltzmann||

I will reiterate that I am aware of the pre-existing OST someone made for IGF, I am a musically-inclined nerd, so I'm building my own, keyed to this playgroup
Case in point:
||For the fight with Andros onboard the Tachyon, the tune I picked was You Will Know Our Names, from Xenoblade Chronicles. This is partly because It's playing on the combat's own title (A Face To A Name), and I, alongside at least two of the players are nerds that liked Xenoblade Chronicles a lot.||
But this also means, that when we get to chapter 5, I can set up a fakeout.
||Combat 1 uses Critical Clash 2 from Octopath Traveler 2. Combat the second will just be For The Dawn from the same game. The party knows that I'm a simp for Octopath Traveler, and will therefore expect the final boss theme to just be either Vide The Wicked, or Those Who Deny The Dawn. Instead, we hit them with Xenoblade 2's 'You Will Recall Our Names' as a bookend.||

also using Obsidian for my campaign that starts this weekend (i'll share the party make-up once they finish giving each other callsigns)

oh what did you do to make that timeline on the right

you can also embed canvases within canvases (eg, here's a flow chart for all the chapters of Act 1)

New NPC for one of the players stories
Big wallflower spoilers
|| They're the leader of a primarily Hercynian migrant coterie on Asphodel, an outlander community called "The Shapers of Planet" in the Union-Lang. Working on the terraforming of asphodel as well as working on creating an underground city much like those on Hercynia. ||
||Oh yea the good ending events of wallflower already happened 150-200 years ago in my lancer setting||
||A player is one too||
Finally, Charlotte won't be one of a handful of empaths anymore.
I actually came up with an idea for one. ||She's blind to Witness, and grows to hate her species for squatting on a hot, muggy rock while humanity claimed the stars. She hides aboard a cargo ship and eventually finds her way to Calliope. She'll pilot a Barbarossa when she hits LL2.||
👀
||She doesn't tell anyone her birth name, insisting people call her Betty Jean. Her callsign is "Trinity", referring to the place where humans first called the power of the sun.||

She is deeply mentally unhealthy.
if eveil why friend shaped?
Then again, the only person in Calliope who is well adjusted is (Act 2 spoilers) ||MEGACORRODER||.
I'd argue Jerry with a series of coping mechanism
Anything blacked out is potential wallflowers spoilers
A bit of lore about the planet that my player comes from
He is a representative for the Galaxy wide connection of his people, and is a community elder. The planet that he comes from specifically, the solar system only has two planets, only one that's habitable, Jotunn, and is a planet that has been cohabitated by a cultural mingling of ||Hercynians and Sparri||
Potential wallflower spoilers
||So you have the cultural mingling of people who are empaths and have a big cultural focus on machine upkeep, along with people who view their lives as an ever-growing story, and some worship machines/digital entities.||
Something else really fun that I'm doing, is that each player has the ability to with the proper social interactions with certain NPCs, unlock a third-party company for themselves.
Each player has a designated third-party company
Ooooooh, niiice~
Two of players already have a third party mech for one of the big 4, so I have to keep an eye on those two specifically
Im also starting them at Level 0 w 2 bonus LLs
So they all get to start with a mech of their choice
If I'm going to be scaling up the power level of the combats I might as well go all in
My Players Mechs
Enoki - IPS-N Caliban
Florian - IPS-N Pharos (From Castor and Pollux)
Hugh - IPS-N Nelson
Jack - HORUS Lich
Avi - HORUS Rakshasa (from Omission of Terror)```
Interesting line up.
jerry is functioning but not well. Rita now, she genuinely seems relatively well adjusted.
She's a well adjusted person who has to account for the whims of 10-15 people who all hate each other and act as entitled as possible, while also having to deal with all the most major problems of Space Reno so that it doesn't all start spinning out of control and rip itself apart
I'm not sure anybody in Calliope is "well adjusted". Well adjusted people don't end up here.
Yeah, probably, but can we scale them against each other?
You mean the guy whose office is 60% Calliope Project merch by volume?
My Players Bonus/Unlockable Companies
Enoki - Scrapper Mechs
Florian - Downfall Corp
Hugh - Far Field Transmission Log or Ironleaf Foundry
Jack - [UNSURE. Considering OMDI]
Avi - Hercynian-Eggregorian Systems & Hardware
Florian and Hugh have good taste. I'm not biased 😛
so
as a bonus these are our pilots and our flight attendands. welcome to the hellplane it is awful
(never stop ||feather||sirenposting 💪💪💪)
How many people are in the same game as you!?!?
well, technically there's like 6 including our gm @/sekiyo, but some of us have second characters they alternate between
Ok that makes more sense
I was thinking "no way do you have 9 player characters in one game"
(also there are some more srts i didn't throw in but they're less active. so. to keep things sane.)
Id like to think all the different SRTs hang out like old cartoon network characters do doing mundane tasks and just vibing
In between sessions all players in any instance of In Golden Flame are banished to the SRT waiting room.
enrichment
anyways made a ver with just my various ocs and some designs i did (and @marble lava's igf pc marthe. of course. Enrichment)
hibiscus is also my oc
so real and true
Its me who has good taste /lh
Each character I worked out the one that would make the most sense for them
Tho Florian and Hughs players really LOVE the companies thematically
WHY IS NOSFERATU THERE
(minor act 2 character spoilers), my party is only on the icebreaker rn so I'm limited in what characters I could use that they would recognise (and I couldnt be bothered to find the art for their ocs or the minor characters they've latched onto) but here's my version
is that my parties vent crab doodle?!
it is!
(it is okay for me to use it as an emote right?)
(it's the best vent crab ive seen here so far after all)
(and a vent crab emote is essential to the functioning of my campaign)
i still need to run my mecha vent crab bossfight for my players at some point...
I think that was a template Vex made at one point...
I heard something about that yeah. Shame it got cut but fair if they felt it didn't quite fit
question on behalf of wife: if a non-sentient machine is made no longer non-sentient through the use of Vox Ad Machina, can it be... "empath'd"?
That’s almost certainly a “by dm fiat” question
I’ve been making the magic bond powers the result of them tangoing with feather - she can’t differentiate between realities very well and is granting them “blessings” like they arnt trying to stop her
if i return to my wife with "its up to the gm" she wont cook dinner for me :(
would ||giving a character visions of their player's character from a different lancer campaign|| be an acceptable use of astral stigmata :P
actually wait we can go even further
||what if they had occasional freaky friday bodyswaps with the other character
multi-campaign drifting||
Acceptible? HA, I explicitly endorse this.
do i have to wait until they get a second tick of astral stigmata or can i just send it lol
GOD WHY AM I NOT DOING THAT
My player is abusing that clock and edging to the full 6
RAW characters don't start ||seeing behind the doors|| until two ticks, but it's your game. If you haven't gotten there yet though, chapter 4 ||offers fantastic opportunities for that sort of fun regardless of Astral Stigmata||
Also I can one up that
ohohoho true
||maybe i'll just have triplepoint's simulation react weirdly to their 1st tick of astral stigmata and give them their 2nd tick||
Also, if a technophile three enlightenment class NHP can use empathy in combat I say box machine can do the same
||personally, i'd hold off on that second tick of stigmata until the proper moment, unless there's a compelling reason the player themselves caused -- TRIPLE-POINT can show them visions of other realities regardless of that stigmata tick, so you'd only have a 'dead zone' of one chapter (chapter 5) in which there aren't any visions||
Again, your game, your rules. Personally, I think earning points of AS should be a direct result of player choice. Outside of ||filling the Something is Coming... clock||, I'd only use it for particularly egregious breaches of ||the fourth wall and metagaming||
||then, after the crone appears post chapter 5, the second stigmata tick is earned||
yeah good point
One of my players saw Vex post something about the Doors, and heard me mention them. He asked what that was about, and I offered a caution that some knowledge can't be unlearned. He confirmed he wanted to know, so I explained what Can you see the Doors is all about. He got another point for that. I only entertained the idea because he's running his own campaign now.
||astral stigmata, to me, feels best as player consequence for starting to tear down the veil of fiction -- it feels less impactful if the gm is tearing it down themselves||
in my opinion, if you run the game ||through the Crone encounter, you yourself have maxed out Astral Stigmata, which is what this player faces in my game when his game gets that far||
Also one of his players is a player in my game. We've agreed ||that those two characters are sharing an AS clock. He might earn a second tick tonight in my campaign (end of act 1), and if he goes through the crone in the other game, both characters will then be at three.||
||also, not entirely on the same subject matter but still generally the same, i just want to say the fact that i have no idea what lies at max astral stigmata is very fun to me. i know it's just because we're not there yet in the story and gms later down the line will know, but it feels supremely fitting for me to be as clueless as my players as to what it'll bring||
to clarify, ||the other campaign in my situation is not an IGF campaign, although it probably will also involve a dash of weird parallel timeline shenanigans||, which is why i had this idea in the first place
||there's almost nothing scarier as a player than hearing of some grand consequence at the end of a path and the gm has no idea what it is yet. all safeties are off. whatever you're in for is what you're in for, good luck soldier||
closest we have to a faceclaim for noctis aeternum
also it's funny. so
reads the note for ||A Face To A Name|| that says 'remember: destroyed bastion wrecks provide a size 2 piece of cover
realizes that I've just been deleting mechs off the battlefield when they hit 0 HP
I've been playing that one darkest dungeon mode in error D:
yooo my ||feather|| art!!
finally started running igf tonight, first time running lancer and all with players who are new to the system. Ended up being all rp, not a single die roll, ended on deployment for beat 4. Before I knew it everyone was hanging out in the GMS Generic Bar rping unprompted for like an hour which gave me time to fix foundry stuff. Everyone pities Jerry, so I think this group is gonna work out just fine.
its deadass the best art i've seen of any character in this campaign so far, I had to use it for feather.
You are doing a fantastic job and got a good group of they are rping just by themselves unprompted. Any highlights you'd like to share
holy hell,,, thank you so much!!!
it's true, I really vibe with it a lot!
Minor mission 2||killer noise is going well for me (this is on my soon to be blackbeard pilot, they're truly living up to their future mech's reactor)||
jeez man
one of our PCs is ||goung to fucking kill ignatius during mission 3 after fucking recruiting him to join them.|| the best part is ||they think he'll actually stay dead||
My players just finished exploring the Tachyon and next session will be ||the combat against Cappella||
They're already thinking of making a run for it instead of facing down ||the Hound of Hell himself.||
Whats even funnier is that ||the players think that all of this, the entire situation, fucks up our plans as GMs, when really it changes nothing and actually helps us :)||
I recently discovered Obsidians Canvas feature when I went looking for a flow-chart tool to help keep track of the ||icebreaker conspiracy/investigation|| in Chapter 2:
I was super terrified about the complexity of running that section in particular but it ended up going extremely well, ||my players were able to piece together 99% of the conspiracy without even visiting Yeng Yi Sao/The Gift Bronze Casino. It probably helped that one of them took a tour of the Borealis as their first downtime action before even talking to Rita and slipped behind the scenes to discover wiring leading to the rebuilt laser (I left it at "you see something that you'll later realize is important" ) and later in the session one of the players snuck into the Laser Chamber itself and discovered the re-built laser sans focal array. I knew the gig was up when one of the players, completely unprompted, asked... "sooo, hypothetically, if you were building a laser, is that something a Harrison Armory scientist might be able to help you do?" 😆 (before they pulled that thread AT ALL yet)||
aaaaaaaa in two hours i'm finally gonna get to run again after a month
Nothing super exciting, everyone was kinda finding their footing. I'm running for six(!) players and they basically spent the session introducing themselves in character. We've got a couple of people playing it safe with generic-ish characters so far, tinkerers, goat boy mech-heads, a Sniper with no specific past, but they started getting into it and expanding characterization. Got a couple of oddballs, a horus dude with an extra nervous system seeking maximum pain (yes he wants a manticore) and a 1950s houswife from Harrison Armory who died in a tragic accident, so her husband misappropriated company resources to clone her. He went to jail and she was drafted as a super soldier, sent to Jerry by someone who owed him a favor and figured her being in the long rim worked best for everyone involved. Next week: we shoo some vultures
Session 1 with plume and the party adores her.
Oh right, the gang:
They didn't give me token art so they had it assigned
Oh my god I love them and their giant shotgun
I cannot take credit, I got that token from Combined Arms Evelyn
After 41 44 sessions over 659 days, my party has finished Act 1. Fuck. What a goddamn campaign.
Let's goooooo
Yo that's huge
Stealing this template, mainly for the left half (though we're not playing with burdens)
Player: 'to minimize build chat, in your omniscient wisdom, what would you forsee as being useful'
Sere: staring at the ||Argus Armour in Sunbird-1|| ... AP weapons
(While this team is highly effective at fucking shit up, there is next to no AP weaponry among them, and as such, there's a chance that ||Sunbird-1|| will feel more like an annoyance than a boss)
finished ||event horizon|| last night. Just for fun (and because Mission 4™️), I switched us from normal hexes to isometric for this combat.
I claimed a total of 11 structure and 6 stress from the PCs through a combination of my players actions ("this is going to stress me but fuck it we ball" overcharges) and my own.
The empakaii turn 2 stressed himself from an overcharge, ended up exposed, then got crit by the ronin and structured into a stun. Lot of teamwork was used to get another PC up to him to clear the stun so he could clear the exposed on his turn. He managed to put out (and take) a lot of damage before a bit more reckless overcharging (and some well-placed invades on my part) took him to 0 stress, with his mech ending in a meltdown directly on top of ||CAUSTIC||. Empakaii was at 1 structure when his mech went boom.
The swallowtail did pretty well avoiding major damage until catching an 11 damage shot from the goliath directly in the face, which combined with being at lowish health managed to double structure them, bringing them to 1 total structure (entered to fight down 1 due to previous combats). A not-very-good heat cap of 4 resulted in them getting stressed by a light breeze, and they went into a 3 turn meltdown after their second lost structure. rather than let the timer run down or try to make the check to stop it, they self-destructed their mech directly on top of ||CAUSTIC||... and, due to some rather cramped positioning, also on top of the Lich. In fairness, it was either the lich or the dismounted empakaii pilot, so this was probably the better option.
The lich managed to get out pretty clean in the reactor stress area, but not so much health wise. ||CAUSTIC'S wraithshot|| is a very effective counter against it - leave an echo near the lich's soul vessel and there's a lot less of an escape route. The lich player used his core to good effect to keep the team alive, but that also left him without a soul vessel up on multiple occasions, which went as you might expect. He was destroyed by the swallowtail's self destruct, but returned via immortal.
gotta ask, what ||event horizon|| map did you use? ||given, just about everything about what happens preceding that combat, the maps tend to vary quite heavily||
oh based! did you end up doing anything with the special spaces?
||in my run of event horizon that map ended up quite cramped and confusing, so i hope the same didn't happen to you haha||
Didn't do anything with the ones by PC spawn, but I did have a mechanic for the three black cracks - the three spaces were all treated as one space, so if you moved onto one you could keep moving from any of the other two
ooh, that's a fun gimmick :3
nah, it was fine. there was some "we haven't done iso before how does this work" struggles but that's not a fault of the map, just the nature of surprise changes (and can kinda be considered a feature rather than a bug - the point of swapping to isometric for the fight was to encapsulate the Mission 4-ness™️ in a directly visible way). the cramped positioning i mentioned in the AAR was because everyone ended up real close to each other in the middle of the map (empakaii dove in, swallowtail followed to get the stun off him, lich stayed back for a few rounds but ended up in the melee because of glitch time, boss was up in that mess spamming barrage).
so at the end there were 4 mechs all huddled into an approximately blast 3 area
(ch4 character spoilers) thought about lynk in the Multiversal SRT Waiting Room
anyone find some good tokens for (chapter 2 spoilers) ||send in the clowns and its mascot mechs?||
oh shit, bec divorce arc? also you play igf?
In the IGF resource spreadsheet someone made tokens for all of them save the Bastion, who was an ogre instead of the bridge troll for some reason.
I will be playing igf soonish, waiting on basil to start running it for me n some other people
As well as the great ones on the sheet, there's also these ones (I mixed and matched from a couple sets for my game) which I don't think are on the sheet (could be wrong tho). #1059603134504255528 message
You'll have fun
Ahahaha, I just speedran one of my players from 0 stress to a burden in a single scene (they were fine with it). ||Their character's backstory was of their parents getting fucked over by Evelina Bondarchuk and SSC. So, after Send in the Clowns and Killer Sound, I had Bondarchuk's goons bust into his hotel room, wreck the place, and leave a photo album containing photos of their parents past and them and their siblings in the present, with the implied threat that he's going to end up like his parents if he continues fucking with Bonadarchuk. So naturally, they reacted super badly to this (they didn't have to read the whole photo album but they chose to and got a burden (tbf I did also give them +1 Accuracy and Increased Effect on checks to hurt Bonadarchuk and her businesses so it wasn't all bad).||
Now that my party has bonds, I can not wait to use stress on them whenever Plume gets hurt :)
I introduced bonds to my game a few sessions back and so far we've consistently forgotten to use them. Is the trick just throwing more stress at them and making more of their narrative rolls risky? I haven't had anyone push a roll yet but maybe I just need to up the stakes (as well as remind them pushing exists in the first place
).
honestly I can't say, my players seem to enjoy asking me for stress for some reason.
lmao
reminding them about pushing is a good idea tho yeah
I'd say if they want to do anything a bit extra out of the norm you can offer the roll but it could stress them
(Chapter 2 Spoilers) Here's my rendition of ||Killer Sound, one of my players snuck in on foot to get eyes on the focal array so I re-worked the sitrep to a gauntlet. Actually one of the first map layouts I've done myself... does it look like enough cover? I'm thinking I'll also need some extra reinforcements ready just in case my group chews through the main forces...||
Yeah, in hindsight I can think of quite a few places I could have added stress (or the chance of it) to some of the narrative rolls. They also LOVE to overcharge so I definitely gotta remind them they can do that narratively too. ||I think I was so worried that they were gonna struggle with the Icebreaker investigation I didn't think enough about giving them stakes and actually letting them fail...||
Oh, I should definitely mention that the base of the map is from Czepeku Sci-Fi (it's not my own creation), I just added some props and lights and made it better for mech scale by tiling and flipping it
here's a static image of it if that makes it easier to read/give feedback on (again, Chapter 2 spoilers):
lmao, I introduced [Mission 2 npcs]||Claryana Rowdley by having her throw up in her own hat before passing out on a pc's shoulder, and said pc is still having a gay panic over her lul.||
current state of our party
could i get a blank of that actually
Same
Also brain cooked a phrase to use.
||'Wouldn't scavenging that ship constitute graverobbery?'||
||Jerry: owing to the ah... nature of relativistic travel, it's closer to archeology, ha||
I dunno who Zeyan is so I'm going to replace that with "The Jerry Zone"
made a blank
If any of yall ran Reverse Zero-G rules, how do you rule it for NPCs if they are affected by zero-g or not? Spacer template? Flavor?
Also, did you allow your PCs to change loadouts mid missions to compensate for having some combats on 1G vs some in 0G? Or did you make them equip it in advance?
i just sort of assume NPCs have the equipment to maneuver freely in the environment they're being deployed in
and i usually require players to lock in their builds by the start of the first combat of a mission
I typically run the rule that most if not all mechs in Calliope come preinstalld with a very basic EVA unit to allow for freedom of movement in Zero G locations. The issue with spamming spacer on every enemy is a little much to template stack given space has some actually good controller tools and certain enemies really would like those tools.
I let my players know that hey, you are going to X local. Adjust accordingly.
More specifically, during ||A face to a name. The tachyon thrusts to 1G so theres gravity, would the Hell Hounds be slowed?||
i think i ran that fight ||without the gravity because i didn't want everyone to be slowed||
although ||slowing the entire party could help andros' mobility problems|| so it's up to you, really
Especially since it invalidates ||his optional Acrobat||
I do wanna run 1G there, but maybe ||Capella would come equipped appropriately?||
oh right
yeah i guess it's better to run ||without the gravity|| if you're using reverse zero-g rules
I can cherry pick template features to enable it
you can literally just add a trait that says "the NPC moves normally in low gravity" without having to slap the entire spacer template on
i've done something like that in my homebrew campaign :P
yep my thoughts exactly
Where in the campaign is your party, at that state?
start of mission 3
oh my
Zeyan is top-left PC's (Morgan's) dead wife
oh my
Those players are in for some rude awakenings come ch5
There's also this version
Combat: ||A Face To A Name|| went rather interesting.
||Andros' Scorchmark is under one of the pools of 'sealant'||
||boy got goop’d||
Knife to the fuel tank
he got absolutely fucking bullied
Canon event, our little meow meow catgirl did him in with a charge blade
That moment when my brain has told me that Cerulean sings "Take me to Church" as a protest song post ch5 to the Faith of the One.
(The writeup is coming)
Me, waiting to read it
I... really don't like those scare quotes around the word..."sealant"
:3

Take me to snurch (snail church)

Take me to snake church, or snurch
okay xcom player
Writeup got delayed because of a very long discord call full of a thousand tangents
hokay
Session 3: All Aboard!
||Our crew returned from the raid on S1GN4L's base, and to maintain the pace, we immediately went into the briefing. There was a long conversation about whether or not the wreckage they picked up would have weapons, the conversation turning briefly towards 'why would harrison armory make a non-weapon ship', and Alisha saying that the Dragon's Tooth looks like a decrepid piece of junk that she's bewhildered that she'll be allowing 'an asset more valuable than Hell's Gate' on board that thing for four weeks.
[Warranted Eyeroll Emoji As Alisha is Designed To Be Punchable]
Eventually, we gathered onto the Dragon's Tooth.
Lorelei and Yon has a confused conversation about a discarded postcard that Yon found while performing air filter maintenance. Yon was mainly confused about the contents of the photo itself, and asking 'what is this.' A statement that makes sense, given her sheltered upbringing. Lorelei, who knew only slightly more than Yon, was similarly confused, but did say 'Oh, I think I've found some ancient omninet games that had those. Namely this thing called 'The Wind Waker''
It was a photo of a beach.
We also witnessed a ship jumping to nearlight, on its way to the Dawnline shore. Just to remind people 'Space is big'
Siren called Ringabel into a side room, mainly to ask about a few things she'd read about her file. Namely, about her own limited psychic abilities, trying to confirm the nature of her reflexes, precognitive abilities (if any). A relatively tense interviewed. Which was all cut down when it was revealed that she was trying to gauge what level of opponent she was looking at when she issued a challenge for a friendly game of Fleetcomm 5014 (Ringabel won)
Farvicule and Roselor, meanwhile, as some tensions was picked up on before they'd departed, had a quiet scene by themselves, basically acting as impromptu therapy. Primarily discussing how Farvicule reacted to Yon, and that maybe some dedgree of friendsim Friendship approaches might be needed. Farvicule responded to this by bringing Yon a sandwich out of nowhere.||
||Eventually, we made it to Chameleon. And after bringing up that most of the debris was a second, smaller ship, the giggling started. And then I mentioned the whole 'Ship is smashed across the larger ship.' And the discord kinda just lit up with everyone going 'HOW?! ... HOW!? SPACE IS BIG! HOW! FUCKING HOW?! WHAT?!' amidst also a lot of laughing.
Siren failed to identify the larger ship, to which Farvicule jokingly said 'Maybe it's from the future'
(In fairness, after the game, it was addressed that if you name your ship the Tachyon, you may as well be screaming 'this is timey wimey bullshit')
The ambience was appropriately spooky. Systems picking up on hotspots, despite not actually being hot. Impossible geometry. Food weirdness, double vision...
The team split up into two teams. Yon and Farvicule made their way to the Bridge, while Ringabel, Lorelei and Roselor made their way to Central Fabrication.
Yon was able to pull assorted data from the ship's logs, finding the weird chronometer time, and basically just saying 'nope, no, this is clearly wrong' and denying these weird claims. To try and confirm this data, she tried turning on the NHP comms, only to be met with about a thousand errors.
Oh, and we had this moment
'Lemme get this straight Sere. You're telling me that this giant ship was crashed into another by someone named Feather. ... You're seen.'
(MTG Joke. I like Feather a lot)
Farvicule got to see the NHP Core area, and was sufficiently freaked out. Not sure if he assumes that the NHP is dead, or if she's out. But, that's a story for another time.
The other team made their way gradually to central fabrication, wherein they got to see the one singular body on the ship, and realized their fate. This was then followed by trying to wedge the power relay for the functioning printer into Roselor's mech, since she's one of the mechs with an expanded compartment. And then, of course, the Hell Hounds showed up.||
Combat: ||A Face To A Name
Music: Xenoblade Chronicles: You Will Know Our Names
As Yon and Farvicule were still at the front of the bridge when the combat was starting, and rather than run back to the docking bay, Yon asked about exiting the ship through the front. Because Howizter.
The accepted offer was 'Miss the first round of combat, but deploy anywhere on round 2'
So, we get into combat, where admittedly, the Hell Hounds did not get to do much, as they were all on one side of the ship, while our other players were on the opposite end. Latch Drone was deployed, and Andros sicced Church, the berserker, on Ringabel. Specifically, because 'Church' is just the callsign of FC24. One of Ringabel's remaining 'sisters' out here in Calliope. She was especially adamant to kill Ringabel, She and Ringabel spent the fight darting around a piece of cover that eventually Red Rust(Breacher) broke. Andros also remarked on Roselor looking 'familiar' and leaving the statement at that.
Yon dropped in with a Howitzer shell, taking out one of the Bastions, Farvicule dropped in and missed his tech actions, but still caused problems on purpose. Coolant pipes were unkind mostly to me all things considered, but they definitely got a lot of use. The coolant pipes melted Andros' Latch Drone because. I am a fool. And didn't want to give him more reason to persist.
Ringabel and Church spent a lot of time exchanging blows, with Ringabel trying to get through to her, maybe reach her and get her to come to her side. She was failing miserably at getting through to her, because she was quite thoroughly conditioned by years of abuse from Andros.
Despite being built up, however. The dice were not on Andros' side. Or many of his teammates for that matter. The Bastions didn't even get a chance to do their things, because they got taken out too quickly. No one touched the Razor Swarm (and the hive didn't get it back). Honestly the most chaos was probably caused by Tindalos (The Support) who just kept spraying se...aleant. Sealant. Everywhere. So much sealant.||
||Eventually, Andros didtched the 3v1 that was forming and ran up to Ringabel to hose him down with some krakatoa-themed therapy, succeeded in destroying a weapon, and was quite chuffed about that. But, foolishly, he was also now quite low-health, exposed, and had 1 structure remaining.
So Roselor ran up and knifed him in the back. Hard. As his fuel tanks were rupturing, Roselor simply remarked. “Say hi to Cerberus for me,” and then he was gone.
The pirates continued to fight, but their spirit wasn't in it anymore. Some were fleeing their broken mechs, some who had seen Andros bite it were surrendering. Red Rust, who staunchly refused to believe he was dead, still charged forward and got his cockpit turned to puree from a near max-damage heavy machine gun shot.
Oh yeah. That. Rather that killing every pilot, I've ruled that a pilot only dies if:
-They faced significant overkill
-The mech died to AP damage.
So yeah. Red Rust became Red mist.
The remaining pirates routed, and some were taken prisoner. Church was dragged kicking, biting and screaming from her mech, eventually breaking down and just. Accepting her imprisonment.
Everyone made it back, People are excited at the death of Andros, but. Y'know. Tense at more Hell Hounds coming onboard hell's gate, and being subsequently imprisoned.
Downtimes.
-Yon improved the militia somewhat by means of Alisha browbeating them into submission. Yon herself also tried to take a break, but just. Could not shut off
-Farvicule went scavenging and found a weird rock. He then shortly after started a new clock of making 'The Gruncher' (his engineer weapon) able to work with the weird rock (New Clock Started: Ghostbusting Grunty – Engineer Weapon can hit Intangible targets)
Main other thing of note: Ringabel, Farvicule, and Lorelei (Aka team Fun Size) went chaos goblin mode and had a bar fight. Ringabel had started her own clock to 'fix' FC24, and while she failed the initial roll, learning she beat up the guy who suggested '9mm therapy' on musechat she has been slgihtly won over.||
next week ||we go have a vacation onboard the Icebreaker Borealis where nothing bad will happen||
Listening to players theorycraft is funny
||Ringabel Player: so we all know what happened there woth the Tachyon, right?
-long pause-
Me: I ain't saying nothing
RP: the parts of the boat that looked white hot were out of phase with it. So when it time traveled again at the end, it probably sent half of it elsewhere. So expect to find more of the boat.
Me: -simply nodding-
RP: so these bad troll analogues are going after the NHP that escaped
Me, internally: Ah, they think DRIVETRAIN is the baddie.||
I think ours died to Improvised Attack
Lol, lmao
The canon event used to be that he'd ||get his flamethrower destroyed every time. Vex added Boarding Leash to Andros so he'd have something to lose, so now the canon event is just that Andros always gets fucking clowned on. In my game he almost never got to use acrobat for all the invades making him slow, and he rolled triple 1 on structure 3 and exploded. In Xenguin's game, double chomolungma core powers caught the entire sitrep and the follow up howitzer shots almost ended the fight before it began.||
In mine he caught the Round 1 Wide Area Code Pulse > Round 2 Wide Area Code Pulse > Round 3 Tempest Charge Blade true combo
double chomolungma is a terrifying thing
even when they don't pop core on back to back rounds, having 2 frames throwing fragsig and bcl is just devastating
and then at ll1 when they both picked up autopods and puppet systems...
i was going through it for a bit (until mission 4. they were rocking the double chomolungma team comp all through mission three)
in my game, a HMG Everest took him from full health to a smoking crater in a single turn
thanks to Iniative existing, a Brutal crit, and a snake-eyes structure roll
The MOST appropriate cat meme we ever have
Dude ours had 3 Structure, took 1 structure, lost his boarding leash, took another structure, and lost his fucking flamethrower
Lmao
MINE TOO
He lost the hook, lost the flamethrower
Had to resort to prying claws
Then got vapourises via cpr
You gave him prying claws? Evil
Felt in character and I had a premonition he'd lose all his weapon
Right, yeah, mine lost his boarding leash and his firewall shield (in fairness I forgot about the fire shield every turn past his first)
I do worry that I'm accidentally making things too easy for my PCs because 4 of them are seasoned* players, one is new, and I'm here constantly forgetting 'oh yeah. Reactions'
-# *2 have played 2 games, 2 have played 1 but gmed the other
Okay so I'm loving the vibes of this and now I wanna run this thing, are there any resources for VTT I'd need?
What VTT do you use or are planning to use?
Maps and tokens, which can be found on the share drive pinned in this chat
You can also make your own if you want
The resources doc is in the pins of this thread
I'd link it but i'm not at my PC

If you need help with the code there are community figures that know how to set things up if needed.
Inquiry: Should I tell a player that ||They're on the complete wrong track in thinking DRIVETRAIN wanted the Tachyon/Feather, considering the chat logs say the time frames||
Nah, let em be wrong. They'll figure it out eventually. Or they won't! Which is also fine.
Fair
Are there any faction icons floating around here?
Any in particular because outside of maybe 2 I can't think of any official iconography
The hounds have a dog like insignia that can be seen on calamity havoks arm but it's x'd out and I think Anastasia has a furnace city logo on her jumpsuit
But besides those two I can think of anything "official"
Maybe a big obnoxious ID for impact dynamics
Hmm yea, i guess its just the Hell Hounds. Im think of the text comms that show up in various places. Im planning on using pluralkit for a bunch of em and having a pic to go with the text would be great
Ive only read up to chapter 2 so unaware of how often this might be useful
Apologies for my ignorance on the topic but, plural kit? I'm not familiar with that.
pk; help
PluralKit is a bot designed for plural communities on Discord, and is open for anyone to use. It allows you to register systems, maintain system information, set up message proxying, log switches, and more.
Use the buttons below to see more info!
for my purposes, it allows me to send messages on discord as different characters from my single discord account
Oooooh!
inspiration struck, and i've chosen Mick Gordon's 'I'm Back To Rise' for Combat ||Bad Star||
yo, just ran my first session and it was amazing, Al Barton provided the party with esoteric knowledge of ventcrab cooking tips and all went downhill from there
the domino effect led to the party circumventing most of their first combat
Got stress from the wrong drink in a bar. Would do a Data impersonation again
Hell yeah! Welcome to the club, let any of us know if you need help in the gm department or to bounce ideas!
Did someone trick you into drinking a Nearlight Bolt?
nah I just wanted to try a Headache
lol, fair
look man, sometimes you run into some paracausal bullshit and need a drink
It really is, I was in both fights that Ada mentioned (Her game, just finished Act 1, and the other just heading into Chapter 2) In her game we clowned on him REAL hard but suffered from some of the other enemies, except the priests...
In the second game the two chomolungmas opened with both of their core powers, immobilizing them and knocking them all prone, and essentially made every NPC useless for two turns, and the mortar and howitzer on another player made short work of most of them. Then the tempest charge blade wielding noodle gremlin turned ||Andros|| into ashes in two hits.
Oh damn, Hi pear! I heard so much about you :)
The man, the myth, the legend
🐴
The horse whisperer of legend
We have fun.
I love how you knew that question was coming up
I made the mistake of saying "it has a decomissioned mining laser on the front" and the conspiracy theory player went "ferb I know what we're doing today"
I mean, it'd be the first thing I'd ask
Well shucks...I'm glad to have brought some joy, and horse knowledge to a few others! ❤️
Ada speaks highly of you! We love the rooting tooting and shooting
I'm listening to players theorycraft again
||'Yeah I'm fairly sure that the final boss is that paracausal mech we saw in the meme shitpost, piloted by whatever was inside the Tachyon'||
||I think taking the meme shitpost as canon grants a point of Astral Stigmata.||
lol, yeah Pear is fantastic to play with. Biblically accurate horse references are a treasure.
Thanks Gramps
hellooo i'm the player of this creature you may have seen before (and if you haven't, Now You Have)
friend shaped
Ya that’s a pilot
party started roadblock tonight
the brudenell got the truck within 6 spaces of the EZ by the end of round 2
also i slapped veteran on the pirate witch and the enkidu still pureed it in one turn, it didn't get to do anything besides fail slaver's signal lol
My players are currently having a text discussion on how is the canonicity of the animated film, Treasure Planet, in Calliope
How's that going?
Also, we got Switch as the Influencer and Chief as the Technician, what other NPCs could represent the Bonds?
My players and I kind of did that list a while back
let me find it
Chapter 1
Jerry: Fool/Builder/ Smidge of Pathfinder
Shell: Broker (Organization than leader)
MacArthur: Technician, obviously
Zinfandel: Fool/Pathfinder
Switch: Influencer
Siren: Titan/Firebrand
Striga: Harlequin
Calamity: Wolf
Chapter 2
Rita: Broker
Fayad Harb: Firebrand/Technician
Kileyna Morton: Builder
Loki: Harlequin
Howl: Wolf/Titan/Influencer
Jon Jonsson: Broker
Gabriel Sparrow: Firebrand/Broker
Claryana Rowdley: Celebrant
Chapter 3:
Mistress Elske: Celebrant/Firebrand
Canaan Zhou: Seneschal
Clip Magazine: Titan/Wolf
Anastasia Shan: Technician/Pathfinder
Ratio Salvager: Harlequin/Broker
The Blacksmith: Titan/Firebrand/Seneschal
Antagonists:
Capella: Wolf/Titan
Evelina Bondarchuk: Knave/Broker
Ignatius Aurum: Magus
Rodrick Steele: Knave/Celebrant```
There's just some enemies you eliminate on sight in every group. For us that's been the Priest.
There's a running gag that we still don't know what a priest does because they die before they can do anything in every combat
For the crew I run for their kill-on-sight enemies are witches and mirages. This is because they know exactly what those two can do.
Because I've done it to them.
mirage paired with anything is a problem, lol
Please, consider the following: (m1 combat 2) ||signal used metafold shove to yeet 2 pcs into the atlas missiles' aoe||
I still find it incredibly funny that ||S1GN4L|| solo-ed an Everest with improvised attacks and destroyed it when I ran that combat
lol, that's amazing.
That's why he's the goat
For me personally, Archers and Operators are my kill on sight, mostly cause I take my job as counter sniper very seriously.
My player: It's fine if I overheat and get exposed, this guy doesn't have anything he can hurt me with.
HOW ABOUT THESE HANDS
Famous last words lol
He's actually still using warp sensors because his last swing broke your radar dish
Personally, it's Hornet's and Bastions for my players
One of my players wasted so many actions to kill that grunt one time and took it personally
Yeah, spite is a hell ofa drug
hornets for most of my crew are their kill-on-sights because holy moly
@rustic night Quick question, what are the scene/grid dimensions on your chapter 5 maps?
nvm i got it - looks like grid size 117px
I take it they hadn't met the Crone when they made this list considering she's not here owning Magus?
True, she spooks me to. (When it comes to question time my players better watch what they ask OOC)
One of my players has the screen name Wurm so I had the Crone say,
"You know, dearie. That worm in your head likes to make you do funny things, doesn't he?"
He was loosing it.
I love NPCs that do that. Had a strange old man just be cryptic around my 5e group and the paladin had to be held back from smiting him because they were just so weird and he's turning people into birds
The Crone is my kind of cryptic fuckery
Hey, is Imp/AI still updating their maps? These things are great, but I was wondering if there were gridless versions of Send in the Clowns and Killer Sound.
mission 4. The party is going to try and talk down ||TRIPLE-POINT out of its cascade||. there is a non-zero chance this works. pray for them.
I've used Imp/Al's template, so whatever they use for Foundry should be good (I don't have Foundry to check)
Edit: Didn't knew Al went by They/Them, I feel so bad for using the wrong pronouns
ah I see - foundry set it to different dimensions than Imp's so I had to adjust the grid to 117. i'll fix that later
I sure hope one of them has Technophile 3...
one of them has techno 2/iconoclast3 and ||is an NHP (the PC does not know this lmao)|| and the other has techno 1
Interesting, I wish them luck. Something to keep in mind though is ||Triple point gets very upset when he finds a way to save the system and it doesn't include him, and it's heavily implied it involves the players, so he might decide to "remove" that variable so it can be the hero||
Still it's your game and if the pull it off good for them 🙂
I always love seeing how people tweak the story to make it their own and this one is potentially very interesting
oh yeah if they fuck it up they're cooked - however there has not been a single roll below 20 so far
Nice!
currently we've rolled: 26, 32, 25
doing a "successes fill the clock, failures empty it" type thing
That's the shit you live for. Especially in that situation! Damn!
I expect you to have described their noses bleeding as they continued to mentally cram this thing back into the toothpaste tube
not quite, though a PC did break at the end. writeup coming once I write it.
HUH
Me: 'to give a seed of things to think of, what does 'dressed up a little' look like
Expectation: business formal (fulfilled by our team doctor)
Reality: Gala/Cocktail dresses for everyone else. Including Farvicule
oh yeah, drew more plume/||pre-cascade feather|| the other day
you can dm me for the transparents if you need them
Plume
her!!!
My party did it...
The finished the last fight of ch5
They had Siren get the last shot off on ||Capella||
So pretty
Also, my group had their first ever lancer combat tonight shooing some vultures. They had enough fun that they want to keep it going! I wailed on the most hesitant player a little more than I meant to and structured her but she rolled impair and just smiled at the idiot after taking a shotgun to the face and I think she rode that high for the rest of the night. Another guy double structured and stressed and only ever rolled impairs the lucky bastard. He also structured the ||elite ace|| round one and took his only weapon. Great fight, honestly, I was worried it wouldn't be dynamic enough without an objective but I think that it helped keep things simple.
Hey, is there a .lcp for the NPCs introduced in this adventure?
its in your itch io purchases
dont share it, its paid content
oh, my bad
Ah, guess I just downloaded the adventure, not the other files. Thanks!
...wait, no, I see what the problem is -- there's a demo of the .lcp on the main page
All good, little communication breakdown there
for full context, adventures often have 2 LCPs one for player-side content and one for NPC/GM content. the player-side one is always in the demo section and is free. IGF makes the NPC data freely available
Never mention 'yeah the ship moved to 2% of lightspeed after a week and started deceleration' around a math nerd
oh no
(Chapter 2 Spoilers) My rendition of @tame tide s amazing map for ||Send In The Clowns||! These maps rock!
Here's a generic version of the looping smoke asset I made for it:
(Chapter 2 spoilers) ||I had a player slip behind the scenes on a tour of the CPS Borealis (as part of a downtime action) before even meeting Rita... Best I could come up with is "Nothing stands out to you right now, but you've seen something that will help you later"
||
It's near 2am, I'm in the middle of a field on about 4 hours of sleep and have been awake and very fucking active since 8:30am... I check discord before I get to my tent... I see ping. It's someone happy about my maps
I am contempt 😌
you are 94% of the reason i'm confident enough to run this campaign
your maps are awesome and your music doc has been a great help
The music doc was mostly for myself tbh, I didn't think it would be used
It would be nice if Google drive could track traffic cos seeing numbers would motivate me more
I suck at finding music but really wanted bgm for chapter 4, so seeing that doc on the share drive was really great
the music was very well received by the players
Ah yes the signalis stuff
The music doc is awesome, It's also been the backbone of my music choices
Damn...
Shucks
I'm so sleep deprived rn
I didn't think the music doc would be as used as it is (oops all borderlands)
Its a good doc! that said, i'm planning to go off-script for my m5 music (did you know that the 86 OST is on youtube and spotify and, shockingly enough, has some real good music for being paired with mech fights?)
You see, mission 4 and 5 are very poorly made because I'm still on mission 3
(Scheduling hell)
So 4 was made but is early draft and 5 is there for the sake of having something
Hey, I think I asked this yesterday, but do you have grid-less versions of Send in the Clowns and Killer Sound? I love the maps, but Roll20 kinda shits itself when it comes to hex-based maps.
Ask me again, when I have access to a computer on Monday and I have more than a collective 10 hours of sleep over the course of 2 days
(Also, ping me for inquiries cos I didn't see ur message yesterday)
+potentially if you're lucky I'll remaster killer sound and make a new one cos I don't like the current
