Also the skill, training, and logistics you need to defend a space station is just...different from what you need to do a rescue operation on Asphodel.
Sending half the militia to do it would be a bad idea that wouldn't work.
but what if (some) of the PCs just got suspended from the militia/SRT?...
like i feel like i wrote myself into a corner bc i don't see how jerry could justify ||sending the PCs to the icebreaker|| in the near future
even if ||rita specifically says "i want to hire the people who killed capella"||
If the PCs are not genuinely the best people for Hell's Gate to send to do stuff like this
then they aren't on the SRT
and the players should be playing the people who are.
In the same way if the premise of the game is "you're DoJ Liberators" and a player makes a character that hates the Union and can't be trusted on Liberator missions
they shouldn't have made that character
that's a thing that you should have dealt with in session zero, but should definitely deal with now
i didn't think this would be a problem because i expected certain dramatic reveals to happen a couple of missions later as opposed to right now 😅
i guess if i can't think of anything i can just ask for new characters....
Hard to say without more specifics but like
player characters are Lancers
the best of the best
maybe not the most stable or dependable!
but the best at Doing Mech To Things
and sometimes that's what you need
Remember that one of the reasons that Jerry might have placed a PC in the SRT is "they're too dangerous to have hanging around being bored on Hell's Gate and it might be useful if that danger is channelled into someone else"
if they're still the best mech pilot available you might be able to swing why Jerry is trying to keep the team together
Yeah, also PR exists even when someone isn't doing it on purpose, people of Hell's Gate might not trust the PCs further than they can throw them but for the rest of the system, why wouldn't the killers of Capella be seen as massive heroes? If whoever hired them immediately realized they fucked up a day after they're deployed so much the better
Like what could a PC have done that has made them notorious to the entire system? That's a higher bar than you would think
My recommendation? Have Jerry (or, barring that, Shelly) call the problem people in for a meeting. Say that they've got good reason to be pissed at each other, but Hell's Gate needs them now, not later, so they can either be a part of the SRT or they can go and kill each other on their own time.
and, well, if they say 'no, fuck that', Jerry claps his hands, says 'okay!!! thanks for making my life harder!!!' and they have to make new characters for their replacements.
^
I can't figure out if the issue is that the PCs have done things that would make them unemployable or if there's intra-party conflict. If the issue is just "two PCs hate each other (in character)", then you just talk to the table and ask if this would lead to an immediate blow-up or various parties quietly plotting against each other. And then resolve as needed. If that ends with a duel to the death, then both players chose that and they can deal with having a dead PC. If it's quiet plotting, that's just fun dramatic irony. And if it's PR, see my previous comments about how difficult it is to be known to an entire system, good or bad.
Might need more details
^ Assuming it's related to this bomb that got dropped last session for them
this is the way
Look what you did
You made things harder for Jerry >:c
Had a silly idea
Describe andros’ fuel tanks cooking off as a pillar of golden flame
(Crickets)
my players are already deep in the tank and think he's gonna be back with like no prompting
"Andros dies on a ship from the future that has weird phoenix nhp shit going on in a gout of fire, but nooooo he's dead fr fr"
Hehehe
Im saving the title drop for the end of act 2
The one plumed in golden flame is kind of unavoidable though
ask ||the crone|| about it c:
Assuming this is the assassin thing.
The thing you need to do is talk to the players. find a way to make this conflict work as an evolving story and not an immediate disaster. PC conflict can be a great
source of fun, if handled with care and planning, and can lead to some really interesting stories... but it can also explode horribly.
Make sure the players are cool with everything that's happening. This includes the players who aren't involved in the problem!
Roleplaying is built around stories being created on the fly through rp but there's nothing wrong with planning things. It's very easy to get caught in "my-guyism" where you feel like you're stuck because "it's what my character would do", but there's ways out of that. Find a story that keeps their anger but allows the plot to continue. They're hurt and angry and can't be around that other PC, maybe they even want to attack them. But Rita hired them to do a job, and if they screw it up that will hurt the Gate and it'll hurt Jerry. They can still decide their vengeance isn't worth destroying everything and hurting everybody. The player is in control, not the character.
One story you could make of this is something like "I'll do the job I promised to do, but after this I'm out... and if I see you again we're going to finish this" then spend chapter 2 building some dramatic situation where the other player might redeem themselves enough to let the SRT continue. They insist on being given a separate hotel suite, they refuse to work with the assassin PC, but they stick to the job. Then give the assassin a chance to help / save the wronged PC. Bondarchuck sends goons to their private hotel room, or they get captured by the cult because they're working alone, or something. A great bit of drama and pathos could be pulled from the wronged PC feeling resentment that they were the one to rescue them. then swap it, and giv ethe wronged PC the chance to save the assassin!
And you can have the delightful moment of the assassin explaining and apologizing... and not being forgiven. Because the wronged one could decide to not forgive them but maybe not want to kill them. And you could continue to have drama and stories out of that for chapters to come, especially chapter 4 :3
If it comes that you need to keep the pcs together, giving them plot pressure isnt a bad reason. You could swap chapter 5 and 3, and while that might do slightly weird things to the pacing it puts an immediate exestential threat. Then at the end of act 1, where the pcs might break up again, act 2 happens
Really good advice here.
"it's what my character would do!"
This line never fails to get me going
In any case, the road to keeping the team together and not forcing someone to make a new character starts with the players talking with each other and with you about where they want this to go
chapter 4 is like, the "everybody's secrets come out" chapter. You can show the pcs what each other might look like if they made different choices, had different upbringings, had different things done to them
and its a really good narrative device to change character relationships, as long as the actual players are also looking for solutions
If you really want to fuck with them? Chapter 4, after two chapters of drama and hatred and dysfunction, reveals that they're wrong. They didn't kill their parents. Someone else intervened secretly, the parents survived somehow and something else is going on, or maybe the assassin's memories were falsified.
YOOOOOOOOO I love that
ooh, i like that
you could also have it be a double twist - they did kill the parents, but the boltzmann kicked them out into a timeline where that didn't happen
so the pc still has the guilt, the other pc has their parents, the jucy drama is still there, but its not nearly as high strung
Boltzmann puts the wronged PC into the shoes of the assassin on the day it happened... a scene full of horror and "don't make me see this, don't make me do this!" and then when it happens, they're suddenly hit with the fact that it wasn't how their parents died. The assassin went with poison or a bomb or something, but the PC knows their parents were shot. or whatever it is. A mystery that could have been discovered if they had just sat down to talk about it, but they could never do that with all the animosity. It takes an almost supernatural moment to make them realize someone's playing them both.
our players think andros is really truly dead but they have been joking about andros being alive. its so fucking funny
I can't wait to post that "S1Gn3L steps out of the fire gate" meme
Better than my players who are ||shipping Loki and Switch||
(They don't know 💀)
Calamity spent weeks after ||The tachyonn|| absolutely obsessing over ||Andros' death. Watchingall the combat footage, all the angles that Switch's drones got, convinced it couldn't be that easy. he must have escaped somehow. He couldn't really be dead.|| We're 1/3rd into ch5 now and she's have enough going on that she's mostly forgotten about it...
Oh Lordy
their reaction is gonna be fucking awesome
especially during the reveal - the flip from "holy shit they're donating blood this is so romantic" to "oh god why were we saying that"
Fun fact: it gets worse
The reason they're doing that is because Loki is a PC in my game
||And he keeps trying to hang out with Switch, who keeps trying not to freak out||
||Which the players interpreted as Switch being flustered||
||Luckily I managed to get to chapter 4 without Loki flirting with Switch in-character||
I'm still wondering how you're going to do ||chapter 5|| with Loki as a PC... it's going to be a wonderful mess I bet
just have them steal switch's sunzi, give them a reason to have figured out who they are
makes the act of getting to them before switch bleeds out a thing
One of my players is asking me: How big is Hell's Gate's militia, in terms of manpower/active chassis?
all right i think my players and i are working out a solution
||the assassin is going to come out of her breakdown believing she owes the other PC a life debt and must follow him around
and also jerry is assigning both of them mandatory therapy :P
ideally by the time mission 2 starts the other PC won't be at the assassin's throat and jerry can put both of them back on the SRT for the good of the station||
yay
it's not clear, and frankly I'm not sure they themselves could put up an accurate count without activating the whole group. It's a militia, not a standing military. They're citizen volunteers, and their total strength depends on how many of them are available at any given moment. It's enough to get the job done; keeping pirates from openly attacking the station and running security on some salvage operations or shipments. We know from chapter 5 that ||they have enough nearlight-capable ships to provide a force capable of taking on the cult on fort cerberus. We also know that they can't get the whole militia out there since most of their ships can't jump. ||
Further, the actual numbers can be dependent on the Militia Readiness clock. In chapter 3's ||Sparring Field, you can recruit some outlanders|| to pad the militia's roster, ticking the clock; taking the Get the Militia in Shape downtime action could also increase their numbers. depending on how the players go about it.
I forgot to give the party the golden hand in chapter 2, so they're gonna take it off a hellhound in surprise, surprise
I notice you often redo the zones on my maps. Is that to hide the deployment zones? Just curious.
No.
I was just like "hey one of my players dropped out and I need a replacement, I do have an idea for a character: if you'd like you can take over this existing NPC the party has met" and sent him loki's profile from mission 2
oh my
god thats fucking awesome
they know about odin and baldur and all that jazz though, right?
Loki is a pretty good choice given that he's a recently-arrived outsider so would be relatively in the dark
That map's making my eyes cross. Very nice!
Amazing
I might need to do a whole other map for the Ada version. When I created the background image for the floor in the "normal" version, I didn't think to set it to the same aspect Ratio of Ada's video, because I think I did it before I saw her post. So right now I have square and to match Ada I need more like 16:9. I've been going over options in my head all night.
my favorite part of running this campaign has been all the insanely good art from my players
this is the ex-assassin and the PC whose parents she killed

Normal
What's a fun prank in Calliope like telling script kiddies your IP is 127.0.0.1 or the secret cheat code in a game is Alt-F4?
Yup
Send them looking for NHP lubricant.
tell them to find the cycling schedule (there is not a cycling schedule. if there is, it refers to when the bicycle club meets)

||Getting Railroaded ||exports are uploaded. FYI.
Think fast - what's the name of Bad Star's mech?
Bad Star: Bad Star
||Event Horizon||, the static version, is uploaded to the share.
Vile Sun
...Unfortunate Sun? No thats too clever for him
Hey, I think I only have five maps left...
Malevolent Ball of Burning Gas
Ill-intentioned celestial body
That’s great though
Shooting Star, cause it shoots people
#909574961931362365 message
then if you get a rematch he can turn up in the mark 2.0 Death Star
or maybe Rock Star?
Does anyone have custom icons they're willing to share for the enemies in Send In the Clowns?
check jacquerel's stuff in the gm resources share (pinned here), pretty sure that's where i got the ones i used
oh excellent
thank you!
the dragon and orc heads glued on mechs are great honestly
running session 1 today
i'm bouncing with excitement
my party decided to go on a food run
good luck!
they're bribing the ID representative with protein bars (they have real bacon in them, imported from out of system)
Paying for food with food
god they cut through the first combat
full field clear on round 2, and that's with me beefing it up a bit
my players breezed through the first couple of missions but things are starting to turn by 3
Oh boy
player rolled a 1 on grit to steal a drink from bartender motherfucker.
he got the drink. it was a bottle of headache.
alright, teased the signal fight at the end of session
one of my players wants to marry signal.
another wants to kill him.
he blasted carameldansen on their internal mech speakers.
my player drew the bar.
he didn't know that meat was rare, but he is a recent addition to calliope from his home planet, where it was pretty common
so he's
like
i yes anded it
and now it's great.
I couldn't figure out why screen recording wasn't working so I took it on my phone. That's ||Event Horizon|| with my terrain piece, but @thorn hinge's video running underneath the battlefield.
Now that's a line up
I think I've locked myself into skipping Roadblock and doing the ||Bad Star|| fight as a replacement. Not because of mission balance or anything but because ||I've now spent at least 30 minutes coming up with entrance music bits. I can have Kady Amville (press-ganged into being Bad Star's acting "manager"/stage tech) try to play the original version of Born Under A Bad Sign (it's Bad Star not bad sign!), get shot down, try Fortunate Son (that's my old music!), and then reluctantly have to put on The Only Thing They Fear Is You while grumbling that Bad Star doesn't deserve the track.||
||my face cast for Bad Star is the wrestler MJF specifically when he was on the indies and played even more of an obvious dweeb||
What I did for Bad Star was play various songs that had "Star" in them
Like All Star by Smash Mouth
i'm a little confused about the details for Beat 11 - The Eye of Balor
||what exactly is the path that the focal array parts follow after being printed? the book mentions the Faith's rented warehouses, an abandoned industrial facility, and the Grand Aurora Amphitheater. are the parts collected at the warehouses and assembled at the facility, and then the complete focal array sent to the amphitheater?||
Do you need a map? I can't remember if you use my maps. I haven't done that one yet, but I'll probably do it next, barring a request.
lol, maybe? I jump around for which ones I use, my players have been asking that I try to keep map size around 25x25 so I either find something that fits or make something
||i think the parts fresh off the printer head to their warehouse as well as a few other spots, but the parts are assembled elsewhere, "under" the sprawl. the amphitheater is just one of their stops along the way||
||intercepting the amphitheater means intercepting all of the parts||
@rough bluff quick heads up, you've got a typo in one of your share drive folder names
Literally unplayable
swarn...
SWARN
swarn ❤️
You’ve been Swarned
The swan
That's not a typo, that's uh, no I got nothing. That's a typo.
happens to the best of us.
and also to me
I wanted to say, I feel lucky to have stumbled upon such a cool campaign and being able to play it with people I really vibe with. But I feel maybe even more lucky that there's such a cool and helpful little community that formed around it on this corner of Pilot.net. You're great!
Mine immediately thought "No, he could not have died just like that. He has a clone or something". But now that they hear that the hell hounds are in disarray they're doubting it and think that someone wanted to get rid of him and tricked him on a suicide mission. Which is great to watch.
I realise it's
many many months too late to do anything about this
but it feels a little off that you unlock Bombardment on the Dragon's Tooth and then the mission immediately after that you can't use them because Siren is grounded the whole time
and even if she wasn't it's all underground
Oh boy, time for the ruining steeles day part two today! PArty did well on the first part and had some scratches, now lets see if I can't make them sweat in combat two >:)
I have a player that wants to start investigating the Circut before mission 3 since he's searching for Caustic and I've given him reason to. Does anybody have a cool idea for a "missionette" that would interesting but also wouldn't be frustrating when they get pulled away due to Steele being a rat bitch?
What sort of character are they, where do their talents lie? Something that plays to their strengths might be a good idea.
Alright, my party has officially finished the eye of balor, succeeding in both fights (by the skin of their teeth on killer sound, but they made it).
It took 3 minutes after I showed them the ||catastrophe beam|| for them to ask about putting it on the dragon's tooth.
Their current plan is either do that, or (once they level up after the mission and get ll2) mount it on the empakaai that the TCB Everest player is planning on picking up.
I live in fear.
Terror
OC charge the beam Full Action ZA HANDO has got me shaking in my boots
They're actually lined up to have a really bad time on Boltzmann. They're seeing alternate realities, akin to the astral stigmata experience). He was supposed to meet up with CAUSTIC, but caustic was kidnapped by an unknown 3rd party, who he has only just now has discovered was the circut. So maybe some sort of staging ground, or base where triple point USED to be, to allow some exposition dumping that caustic has been forced into the role of protector for triple point and forced to cascade.
actually I think I may have just explained myself into the answer to my question
Can't 1-turn it 😔. Needs to charge as a quick and has ordnance.
happy to be your rubber duck :3
I know you just said you figured this out, but I just typed this all anyway, so I'll post it in case it is still useful
I was thinking about having a damaged Circuit ship under attack by (something), as a side story (If not enough people can make a game, I sometimes do one-shots featuring alternate PCs who are members of Elske's pirates). It would have played out like a dungeon crawl, culminating in a fight against some ||surviving Circuit members||, where the party had to convince them they were friendly. They woudl then give them some extra information to flesh out the events of CH4. I scrapped it, because it would either 1: give too much away if done too early, or 2: be totally redundant if done too late. By the time I'd gotten to anywhere approximating a midpoint where it would be interesting, we were in the middle of the GOOD SHIT near the end of CH4, and I didn't want to stop and run a sidestory
That's a lot of heat for an Empaakai, but I guess you can build around that
If you're playing with Enhanced Combat, you can get a one-turn Catastrophe Beam with the Oleander, since it ignores Ordinance (you just don't get your core power if you mount a superheavy on it)
I believe his heat management plan is a combination of "fuck it we ball" and "reactor stress is a resource"
Ah, yes, the Tokugawa approach
This video is absolutely killer! Did you ever get the chance to upload a section without Stoneleigh or Moira's comments? 🙂 I tried editing it myself but I am very unskilled in this department and seem to only manage to corrupt the file lol.
ahahah nope, it fell into one of the many voids of my brain never to return. I can do that tho
No rush! I just wondered 🙂 I am in awe at the astounding production value you have in your campaign - this stuff is everything I aspire to but lack the time for, so thank you so much! 🙂
added bonus, I don't think I remembered to upload this standalone graphic either. If you're using foundry and have sequencer, this script will play it over your battlefield. Just put this in a macro and fire when ready.
new Sequence()
.effect("Ada-IGF/sfx/Caustic_Intro.webm")
.screenSpace()
.screenSpaceAboveUI()
.screenSpacePosition( { x: 0, y: 0 } )
.screenSpaceScale( { fitX: true, fitY: true } )
.play()
well thanks ❤️ But nah, I absolutely need the kick int he pants to remember things. I have to run to the shop before I can do the video cut, so if I don't have this up in a few hours feel free to give me another poke!
And so it begins. ||Sneaking in that Ana's sister infiltrated the captured civvies hoping the cult would have helped, plus this will be a driving factor on how he gains so much public athority for Act 2||
Ana wrecked ;w;
Kris Cross, The former HA Catboy said, "DIE"
What battles to you have to do in Chapter 3.|| The last two are conditional. :)||
Currently running ||RoadBlock|| and then I am adding ||Bad Star|| Simply because I want to have a final boss for this arc
Okay, so you don't need ||Expedited Boarding||. Good to know if @dim pelican needs Chapter 5 before I finish it.
Righto! No need to rush on my account
I'll be working on this one more, adding details and then zones, but you seem to be in the middle of a game.
Middle of a session actually :D
BTW, you seemed to miss this last time I asked, I notice you redraw all my zones. Is there something I need to address there, or is that a personal preference thing.
I've got a few weeks until that I imagine! No rush on my end either 🙂 Appreciate all your work, these maps are kickass!
Oh! Personal preference. I use Roll 20 so resizing can be a bit of a pain. No worries.
Thanks, I'd love to finish out chapter 3 before doing 5. BTW I have a chapter 5 map question for the hivemind. I'll post it between my star wars turns.
Cool beans.
Ye, you do great work!
So for ||Break the Line||, I'm thinking since|| "the enemy's gate is down" so to speak, I would make the map a vertical cutaway instead the normal top down. So the top of the map is up and the bottom is down. left and right will be two of the walls. The background would be the third wall, and we'd be looking through an invisible fourth wall. You could handle placement front to back on the map the same way we do elevation for flying mech. I THINK that's the best way to handle it. Do you all agree?||
They did it! :D
Great! That deserves a round of margaritas at the GMS Generic Bar.
Oh sick, thanks.
What folder does Foundry use as its root directory? Having some trouble finding that in the docs.
Appdata, roaming I think
That or it's the other one in appdata
If you right click foundry on the task bar there's the option to open the door directory right there too
The root directory for macro scripts, I mean. I know that Foundry stores all its data in AppData/Local, but neither that directory nor any of the immediate subdirectories seem to work for my script calls.
This isn't the first time I've tried to get sequencer running
I believe macros are in the data directory, in their own database. Let me check.
Yeah, I was right. I have my root directory in a bit different place than appdata, but once you start at the Data directory, here's the location.
Dropped into here to say: Pray for my second tabletop group - they are Lancer-curious so I'm making their first game be In Golden Flame
IGF is real good first lancer
Fantastic, I’ll give that a shot when I get back to my computer.
oh fuck yes, that's the sort of thing I want to do with it, but I've been struggling mightily trying to figure out how I'd do it in isometric. I ended up throwing together a much more basic and straightforward one, but I'm not happy about it. Also it's nowhere near done. Maybe I'll switch to 2d and do a more vertical layout... I'm running this friday though...
Question for Vex or anyone else privy to story information from acts 2/3:
||I'm working on companion quests for my players within the campaign. One of them is a former Knight of the Dark Core, and was the squire to the previous GM Martial who Elske deposed and exiled. Is the Elske's predecessor going to come up at some point down the line or do I have free reign to create that character?||
This is how I handled the perspective on that fight. I honestly like your idea better, though. I also missed the memo that the hangar is supposed to be cramped and narrow
(ship sprites are from Starsector, and the Ship and Weapon Pack mod for the same)
players starting the Gate of Mictlan, let's see how their investigation goes
I do not know of any use of that character in later acts at this time. This might change, but ultimately the understanding is that it's your game. What we provide through the books is content you may use, but you can use it in your game as you please.
There's a lot of things like that which are left unexplained in the book(s) specifically so that GMs can hook their own plots into them if they want. If that character does end up getting expanded / explored / described in a later book, you could ignore it, or integrate that data into your version of the character.
our always-plays-support-in-every-tabletop player is already saying she's gonna do a Lancaster wrenchie pilot who calls Jerry "Jer Bear"
So things are already looking great
You love to see it
yeah the group seems to be picking up the vibe pretty quickly.
the soon-to-be lancaster pilot, she even asked 'what's a 'battle bus build'?'
i'm so proud
Complete opposite of my Lancaster player

Does the energy drink work on her at all or... just make her more tired?
I mean, Soren doesn't drink it much outside of marketing 😭
Micchan however, has a canon favorite flavor and is conspiring on working with them to make a Devil Pink: Micchan Flavor
Did i mention their mech is named Panoptichan?
The pun caused me 1d3 psychic damage. Good!
The most vibrant person in the group is someone who, of course, wanted to be an SSC catgirl. But an escaped experiment catgirl.
No, they don't know why the genetic recipe for super-soldier-who-can-lift-stuff-bare-handed-that-normally-requires-a-fork-lift-strength also gave them natural rainbow hair.
They are eyeing Monarch and Viceroy, eventually, so SSC might be "heeeyyy we can get you that with all the custom options you want just sign this release and also we'll cancel the bounty hunters" "the what?"
SSC avoiding PR disaster by going "Hah oh no we totally wanted her to escape a college and go out on her own. Live your best life girl we support you." now that they are semi-famous in Calliope.
Everyone else is still workshopping character ideas. One is thinking Karrakin richboy tourist who is going to find out he's cut out of the will mid-Act 1
Do you deploy the PCs together like normal for anti capital? Or separate them since they got shot into space.
When I did my map, I had them deploy in a clump near the strut. When I did Pressure Point I purposely didn't place a deployment zone because presumably they are all wandering that map looking around when the fight starts.
But now that you mention it, I might let them deploy|| in a scattered line near the strut, so the fight starts right when they are about to hit and and start to run away.||
You can put them anywhere you want, what I think is 'best' is to put them roughly where they were when ending the last combat, maybe spread out a bit more due to terrain and explosions, so they can get back into tactical shape fairly quickly
When I did anti-capital I decided to do the opposite of letting them be in tactical shape.
I had the numbers 1 through 20 scattered randomly on the field and had the players AND npcs deploy randomly. If they aren't too hurt from thermopylae it won't be too much for them, but it does turn the fight into a delightful charlie foxtrot from the start. Sunbird 1 just deployed from one edge, having actual flight controls to maneuver with.
That said I also gave sunbird-1 both upgrades and threw in the 5 player NPC roster, because on turn 3 Siren showed up with a tacked-on catastrophe beam and Sunbird-1 broke away from the fight to skirmish with her. Their dogfight continued in the background while the players mopped up the mechs, and I had a whole narrative cutscene for Siren's fight when they finished theirs.
hi! hope you don't mind the poke, but i don't think you ended up doing it, and i'm interested in it myself! no rush though for me either, though
thank you for the poke! I found my files, fixed some problems, rendered out a copy and.... forgot about it entirely.
Hm. Yeah. Scattering them might be fun when I get about to it. ...Really will be a good opportunity to, until now, have all the fights structured and then pull the rug out - Enemies and the Players.
Also if any of my players get attached to an NPC, if this is like their other tabletop games, they'll try and take them along. And now I'm just terrified to imagine who they might bond with and want to join them in mech battles even if they have to build their new licenseless friend a mech.

I'm looking forward to see how my party (double goblin 1 chimmichangas and a tcb everest) handle it. Not quite to it yet, still need to do thermopylae
Their current plan for thermopylae is to launch said tcb Everest 20 spaces towards opfor before he even takes his turn
Cos losing anti capital doesn't result to mission loss and they've finished team Balor... I'm curious how my team will handle it considering my team actually has good AP... But I also think for anti capital I'm going to go all out and not pull any punches with sunbird 1

we're in the same spot - my team has also finished balor, and i plan on doing my level best to kick their asses if/when they hit anticapital.
"what do you mean they haven't cleared any of our lock on?"
mine went for grapple and ram
and simply accepted usually also being in the blast radius
I'm looking forward to anti capital so much
For my first timers it will be a fun "wait what do you mean ultra is it that much harder than an elite?"
One of my favorite combat moments in the campaign so far was Calamity move-boost-EverestCPBoosting behind sunbird 1 while locked on and chased by a Wolfhound. She was all set to kite the missile right back into the corvette... but then the Cataphract landed Impale and dragged her out and away. Sunbird-1 has the last activation then, and the cataphract and Calamity went up in a fireball.
We had 1 out of 5 mechs left for anticapital and it had 1 structure/1stress/ 3 hp 😂. Probably my favorite fight so far, the pcs finished it off by jockeying and got dangerously low on pilot hp. We lost a beloved npc as well which has made for some great narrative juice for the rest of the game.
Amazing
o7 rest well beloved NPC
Real "I'm a genius - OH No!" Moment
Had one player save another by burning initiative and core power to run across the whole map and cut the missile in half
One of my players just return-to-sender'd it with Hydra 1
dude this is solid
the top right ship does look a little goofy is my only complaint
Yeah, I meant it to be docked against the back wall, but the effect didn't work right. I'll probably just cut it.
These going through a fair bit of tweaking between my first and last drafts. (That is to say, feel free to give notes if anyone else has them...I'm listening.)
Thanks for this! I'm working on my own at the moment, but if I run out of time I might just use yours verbatim. We'll see.
I figured you would be. The asset offer is open, still. I have ships and a docking arm. 🙂
@warped ibex @dim pelican
I have the files done
oh, hey, thank you!
Using the Sequencer module, you can play these in foundry over the whole UI, but it doesn't support audio in the video files, so that has to be played separately. This macro plays both at the same time, fitting the video to the browser window and playing on top of the UI. You'll want to update the file paths based on your own situation, this will work out of the box if you put them in your base Data folder. I included a 720 version for people who might have more limited bandwidth but are still self-hosting, if you want to use that just change the file name from 1080 to 720 on the first line.
let files=["finalReflection_1080.webm","finalReflection_audio.mp3"]
let soundDuration = 163*1000;
let volumeMulti = 1;
new Sequence()
.effect( files[0] )
.screenSpace()
.screenSpaceAboveUI()
.screenSpacePosition( { x: 0, y: 0 } )
.screenSpaceScale( { fitX: true, fitY: true } )
.delay( 100 )
.sound( files[1] )
.volume( volumeMulti )
.fadeOutAudio( 2000 )
.endTime( ( 273 * 1000 ) - soundDuration )
.play()
You can also run this as a script macro to preload the files, just give it plenty of time to resolve before firing the animation
await Sequencer.Preloader.preloadForClients(files, true)
The soundDuration parameter is there because the audio is 4.5 minutes long, but the animation is more like 2.5; this cuts it off early with a nice fade out. If you want to let it play out the whole way, remove the .endTime line. If you want to shorten the sound, change the 163 value. The sound is not a part of foundry's normal sound system, so you can't stop it once it starts, and clients can't turn down the volume, so players who mute your music will still hear this.
Nowhere near done, but I think I'm on to something now
This is so awesome! Thank you so much! 🙂
Just finished ||Crypt of Stars||(ch4 spoilers)... ||Oh man was that fun. The players are absolutely mortified... And now one of them has a bit of a Muad'dib/golden path thing going on with his PC (who we ruled The World power from the Fool bond was sort of similar to the Golden Path/terrible purpose "oracle".)... This dark path must be avoided at all costs. I followed your lead, Ada, and basically name-dropped every single NPC the player's have ever met and/or will meet. It was glorious. I have 2 PCs that are both now 1 stress from breaking lol.||
Did you already know this was entirely accurate
Who was the beloved NPC? 😮
Looking forward to Ada’s event horizon map. Huge fan of animated VTT stuff
The number one thing that IGF's battle design is teaching me
is I need to include more Mirages with Very Dangerous Slow mechs
Teleport demos on top of people
i did not, actually! ||by the time i decided this, all i knew about Thorn was the stuff in Act 1. i actually ended up making Thorn her mom who either went missing or died, with no details known as to how or why||
||now that i know more about Thorn, i've nudged it more into accuracy with them, since my players knew like none of the specifics. Thorn is, however, still her mom, because that got brought up a few times||
another note on these, I compressed the hell out of the video to save file space, but this has a practical effect of fucking up the way ||CAUSTIC|| shows up; the compression took a smooth fade and made it quite blocky and digital. I like that change, and kinda wish I could have done that when I first made it.
I like it too 🤘makes it feel just that much more unnatural.
BTW, I believe at this point we have enough people clustered around my various points in the maps, that instead of finishing any of them, I'm going to see if I can get rough drafts out of EVERY combat in Act 1 in about a week. That way people can grab them if needed and just draw their own zones. I'll then work through in order to finish them, and wrap up with a bonus map that's discussed at the end of one of the chapters, but not officially written up. I don't THINK any of these warrant staged maps.
I cant wait for you to start act 2 and everybody need different maps
Most of the players have decided their characters have an innate dislike of HA thanks to either past events or the Purview clashing with their beliefs conceptually
They don't know, chat.
Then again, I am pretty sure Loki is the type who, upon hearing complaints about HA, will say "Damn right! Stick it to the man." as long as its somewhere his CO can't hear
How many people have started Act 2? I know what you mean, but if there are a lot of people at different stages, that's even worse. 🙂
One of our PCs was experimented on by the Circuit and has a shitton of trauma from that. THEY DON'T KNOW.
I think most groups are still in act 1, I've seen like 2-3 act 2 groups

they TRULY, DO NOT KNOW
every current member of our party accidentally ended up attaching themselves to some wild plot hook
If you do not start out with a Side Quest Plot hook, one WILL be assigned to you
At least with Act 2 I'll feel a LITTLE less pressure. At least until the kickstarter.
Oh, let me look at that, now you have me curious. 🙂
its in the ||SSC|| mission, ||a floating platform falling out of the sky, getting smaller each round as you're attacked by spec ops||
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvO0e_rAg_o I imagine it somewhat akin to this, where you can see that out the window, you are indeed falling closer and closer to impact

Atraks-1, Fallen ...
Yeah, I've seen the picture. That's cool. It will probably be very ||Anti-Capital||. Have to figure our how to do the ||ionization flames||. That map was MADE for me. Like, @fallen geyser wrote it after I started doing my thing, right. 🙂
Im also curious how to map breach and clearance, since the given art is on several layers of a mall stacked on each other. While that does sound rad and novel, it also sounds like a pain to both map and play
That would be REALLY fun to set up in Foundry with the levels Mod, though.
so far, I know of one group that has started Act 2 (I'm in it and @amber viper is our GM.) We have already completed one arc in Act 2 and about to start another soon. If needed talk to him directly on that front.
As for the drafts don't feel pressure to rush through them, Def. You do amazing work and it's made my life far easier as a GM prepping for my session. Still excited for the bat star fight coming up this frday!
Glad I got ||Bad Star|| drafted for you. Unless I'm missing one, first draft wise I just have the first and last combats in the last chapter, unless I'm missing one. When they are DONE done, I'll do that optional "worst case" map from the end of chapter 3. That one MIGHT be just about generating a really good background image then drawing a lot of zones. The way I did for the Mech Arena map I made.
All good, if you can send me the draft version of the ||Bad Star|| fight map in a dm when you got time I'd appreciate it 🙏
HA oh dear
Draft of ||Silence the Guns||.
Oh nice!
it took about an hour of finangling, but i got this to work for my game! time to jumpscare my new player batch with it (in... a few months...)
||what other "roles"/ranks(?) does the Cult have? the book mentions Lightcasters and Technologists, but im not sure what else there is||
help the rainbow haired ssc super soldier catgirl has named her mech the 'meowingful glance' and i don't think any of the local pirates are going to recover from getting pawprint shaped holes busted in their mechs.
like the psychological damage will be immense even if they don't get any more than bruised in the cockpit
alas my players are otherwise engaged this week so i finished my Lowest Bidder Work map for nothing 😔
maybe it'd be a good time to get ahead and finish prepping the rest of Mission 3 though
That's what I would do. Be like me! A game prep-aholic.
I’ve been prepping mission 4 so hard that there’s no way I don’t end up disappointed with myself, and we just touched down in furnace city
I'm prepping two years in advance! (we're competing now, right?)
I'm hurtling through act two making it up as I go along! : D
Work continues on Chapter 5's ||Break the Line||.
On the one hand, I've got plot threads in the works that might not pay off until in the last fight of act 3. On the other hand, this map's not done and I'm running tomorrow. ...On the gripping hand being on the writing team means I win all prepping-in-advance competitions, right?
You win just for "on the gripping hand."
I hate the fact I did this so fast. It took 25 minutes top
...I should add a glow onto bad star
That's better
I like the sigils, but they destroy the bevel effect you have for the dais and just make it look like your platform is off-centered.
Great note. I can fix that by adjusting sizing.
Might also be solved by removing the inner glowing circle
Here's my *final map for Break the Line from Ch5. It's been uploaded to my drive share in the pin, and includes all the transparent areas as tiles to set up over them, letting tokens move "under" those areas. You can even set the transparency of the tiles individually I took a lot of time lining the tiles up, so I also exported my foundry scene to make it easier for others to use. Just gotta get your file paths figured out.
*final as in I can't promise I won't tweak it more right up until the start of my session. I never know when to stop.
Noice!
**As a person who often changes maps between showing the "Final" version and uploading them to the drive...I don't know what you mean. 🙂
Map_final_final_finalest.png
Pfff, caliopean naming convention
Side note, you're probably REALLY going to lose that bevel once I make the centra feature the room's primary light source. 🙂 Still a good note, of course part of making these thing look finished is to make the stuff you can barely see perfect.
My isometric pixel art attempt at the centerpiece of this fight. I might add more detail but if I don't get to it, I think I'll be happy using this as is in my game.
Still need to make a nice ||fireball|| in the middle, working on that next.
Oh, that's so good!
I got a ||fireball|| I'm fairly happy with using Foundry lighting effects
I used three stacked lights, here's the config for each
Oh, that's awesome. Did you draw it by hand?
I've uploaded the finals for ||Bad Star.||
The ||Bad Star|| fight went great :)
It feels like the ||ships|| might not be that impactful? The action is going to be focused in the middle of them with the zones as they are now. Maybe moving the EDZs to the top and bottom, or corners would make them feel more consequential. It currently looks like the player DZ is small enough that they will have to purposely position players there in the later rounds, particularly if the enemy can deploy only 10 spaces away. A larger player-zone would let them get back in the zone more easily while using the ||landing pads|| as chokepoints against enemies coming in from the bottom or top (if that's desirable)
So here's the weird thing I'm trying to solve. Your argument would be valid if the deployment zone was the objective zone, like with a normal holdout, but they aren't trying to defend an arbitrary spot. They are trying to defend the ||ships||. That's why the ||ships|| have the green objective coloring and the deployment is colored just for deployment. The problem with this sitrep, at least from a logistical mapping standpoint is that you complete your objectives even if you fail the sitrep requirements. They can't stop the|| ships from taking off ||without damaging them, and they will avoid damaging the ||ships||. This would be way easier to visualize if no ||ship|| could take off while there's an enemy in their objective zone, the way an escort works. (that's probably how I'll run it personally.) So that's the problem I'm trying to solve.
I COULD just have them deploy in the objective zones like in a normal holdout. I just seemed weird with six of them. (That is a really easy fix.)
It's a holdout because the opposing OpFor is trying to kill the PCs, not destroy the outgoing ships. They are assuming that if the PCs are dealt with they can reactivate their air cordon and take control over their ships again.
I don't think a holdout with 6 control zones spread across the map, one of which vanishes per turn, really works that well tactically
This is why in the encounter as-written the ships are simply hard cover that NPCs don't prioritise but will attack if it is necessary
You aren't trying to defend the ships in this setup either because doing so would be functionally impossible, the NPCs can simply cover more ground than the PCs
If you wanted to refactor the encounter into being about defending the ships you'd probably want to make it another Control sitrep instead
So what do you suggest for the zones? I was really at a los on this one, which is why I asked the group?
I'd suggest having the control zone be like a regular holdout and position the ships closer together around it so that there's some incentive for the PCs to use them as hard cover, despite the risk
That won't work with the map as you designed though I think 😅
I haven't though overmuch about this one because my group isn't going to do it
I will think on this. If I remove the zones from around the ships, they can come in closer. If I put the enemy zones behind the ships it will at least give the enemy cover, and maybe drive PCs out of th central zone to deal with them.
Having the ships be the primary cover for the objective zone also means that there's simply less cover for the holdout area each round, which is interesting
Thanks for the suggestions. This one had me stumped. 🙂
Players completed their investigation into the Fire Gate! Thermopylae next, left the players with this to chew on until next week
This and ||Expedited Delivery|| uploaded to the share, BTW
Player has decided their character will be a HORUS Omninet Streamer
Oh man I can't wait to come up with ways for Switch's fans to troll them
On the one hand, doing it as a lighthearted joking sort of rivalry could be heartwarming and fun; fans donating or buying subs or whatever just to put trashtalk on the screen, memes from each camp, raids from one stream to another that start with trash talk but usually end with the audience still sticking around.
On the other hand, a more vicious rivalry has it's own merits, and in Act 2 there's a great moment it can play into where ||DRIVETRAIN gets fed up and delivers an ultimatum to calliope's sigdivers; in light of the threat of the Cult? No more infighting. No Horus / Horizon bullshit, we have to work together against a common foe. || Although now that I say it, the "friendly semi-joke rivalry" option could have a lot of fun with that, too. ||Switch and the PC co-stream a "peace accord" and throw a party, complete with mock press release, a big stage, shaking hands with dozens of photograph flashes (they're just the lights on switch's drones flashing)||
^^^
Oh I guess this can go here. I made my own little numbers station recording for a different thing, and now Calamity's player is using it in their IGF campagin during the Chapter 1 trip to ||Chameleon|| so... here, more assets for the community!
Honestly I think knowing them, their character wants to be a streamer first (to get out of this hellhole but oops oh no I love it here now) so they'll probably having begrudging respect for one another as streamers first, Horizon vs. HORUS second.
so looking forward to their ideas for mild stream vandalizing and/or signing each other up for sponsorships for awful items.
But good to know that is a plot device that I could work in later
Always a fan of "We don't like each other but we have to work together or we're all fucked" scenarios
If there's an NPC I'm worried about the whole party kidnap-adopting, it's || S1GN4L ||
You have to ride the line between "hey he's just a kid" and "wow, he's an asshole"
otherwise he gets scooped up
oh good its not just my group then
Can confirm, I went really far into the "wow, he's an asshole" camp, and he's now Bastille's NHP after accidentally decorping himself
This is so freaking cool, is it alright if I use this in my game?
Absolutely yes, that's why I post! ❤️
I came here to check maps and I got so distracted by all the shiny things and amazing memes 😅
Same, S1GN4L manifested in Gabriel's mech after he did a Power at a Cost to scavenge supplies in ||Boltzmann|| to fix his reactor. And I had made S1GN4L such an annoying asshole that he got them out of there as soon as they got back home. Which means none of my players are paying attention to what S1G is up to... Not sure when or what I'll do with that, but that's jsut a fun tool that'll help us later.
My players adopted S1GN4L and now he's basically Striga's apprentince.
same. Along with talking stories.
Oh gods. Striga. I'm going to have to make her come out of some weird places. I just know it.
Same lol.
In Cruye's all-GM remix game my character fell ass-backwards into befriending Striga, and she "showed me a shortcut", taking me with her so I could catch Mistress Elske before she left. I got Bond of the Magus XP for experiencing something terrifying.
Amazing.
I've decided I'm going to introduce her relatively early, just after beat 5 and then beat 6.
"SO, COMRADES I HEAR YOU ARE GOING TO SCAVENGE A GHOST SHIP!"
And then rambles for hours on how since Demosians are real, ghosts must be too.
"Admittedly, the hauntings could also be a psychic echo from a dead egregorian overmind."
[my party has only a base understanding of lancer lore even OOC] "..a what?"
"til next time, comrades!" flees
Unhinged and absolutely perfect
Baiting and switching with her will be fun. Especially because, well, from how I read her character profile it seems her INFORMATION is always correct, it's the theories and conjectures she makes FROM that information that's always utter nonsense.
Can I borrow that? It’s genius
Feel free and hope the results are bewildering!
Fun to see if any PCs notice the subtle difference.
Best part is that my group played wallflower
So they’ll be baffled about “HOW DOES SHE KNOW!?”
(best part is there's a good chance she doesn't know. she might just be quoting suspicious sounding words she found on a SSC confidential file not knowing what they mean.)
Me: Surely this 1v3 against Bad Star will be a walk in the park
My Players: What if we we all overcharged and exposed ourselves turn one?
Bad Star: 48 kinetic damage
Me:
really nice of you guys throwing him a bone like that
turns out
when you have 7 evasion and are shredded and exposed
breachers are pretty scary
gottem
it took two turns to drop both the Tortuga and Empakaai from 4 structure to destroyed
Whew

Though, once you get the first stun from a structure roll, its not hard to take another structure off.
please tell me you managed to stick a painmaker
lolfuk.omif
I stuck 2 pain makers
YOU HERO
tortuga has been out-shotgunned
Empakaai grabbed bad star, overcharging to do it
exposed themselves
Bad Star hit them 4 times for 46 damage
dead
then did the same thing to the tort
done
massive
at this point bad star was at 4 HP and 1 structure
but the damage was done
Gods Strongest bad star
i can't remember, are you 3 players or 4?
bad star sticks 2/3 of a wipe, asked to leave the sitrep
he got blown up by a jockey
but it was too late
he did so much damage
My players bullied themselves
sometimes reactor stress is a resource
sometimes it is still a resource but one you regret spending
yeah 😔
if the Empakaai hadn't gotten exposed they'd have been fine
but they decided to OC and signed their death warrant
tbf they did like 40 damage
2nd one's never happened to me tho, never punished never learn (i will be punished next monday when i bring a white witch to fight a witch)
so I felt justified in blowing them up
WOW!
Diabolic Supernova
I am choosing to believe this all happened because one of the PC's interrupted Bad Star on some smack talk he'd been rehearsing
and he actually got 100% actual mad
for a few seconds
damn first time ever seeing something E-4 on a map.
It's a big hole. 🙂
find places to use prospector in Calliope challenge (very hard)
Please tell me they had ships to get away... bad star was the last combat right?
This is actually accurate, one of the PCs interrupted me while Bad Star was doing his intro to shit talk and he got super angry
and yeah, this was the last combat. they didn't need to fight to the ships
they all had core power and I even had bad stars 2 goons already destroyed, because the Sherman popped their core in narrative to destroy Steeles stupid giant statue.
Party is post ||Bad Star|| and they are officially folk time heros in Calliope. Here's hoping they enjoy all the rp downtime before Chapter 4

Every time a GM gets to ||Chapter 4|| of this game I am there, baying and gnashing my teeth and growling "Fuck them up! Yes! Make them regret! Dive into their brains and tear out their hearts and feast on their dwindling sanity and make them discover new meanings of fear! I want their characters to cry, I want them to cry!"
But do not mistake this for base toxicity. This is not about suffering for it's own ends, but suffering as a means to enlightenment! I am not content to see their wills destroyed, no, I will only be satisfied when they pull themselves back together! When the SRT renews their bonds through adversity, having their minds flayed open and their emotional organs drawn out and categorized for all to see, when the team triumphs and recovers! THAT is when I am satiated!
Basically ||chapter 5 is such an amazing moment especially with that narrative sequence before the last fight that coming out of a low point makes it a triumph for the characters. Chapter 4 can set the stage for an amazing emotional arc if you use it well. Also some groups go through the horrors and come out stronger, some come out broken, and in either case the fifth chapter is there to capstone it.||
I am so excited to kick in ||Chapter 4 for the express reason. The party I am in that went through chapter 4 and currently in act 2 all went through a moment to realize something about each character. What we hid and what we all were keeping secrets.
One was worried she was a coil flip of being the tyrant or the saint legend.
Another finally revealed she was a rogue uib agent trying to get brass to pay attention to Calliope.
One felt he was a mistake for all his NHP shenanigans and we proved his ability is beyond anything negative.
One let it finally slip he was former SSC midnight and ran away like his hero Harris.
My character finally realized she doesn't need to shoulder her pirate past and can look to the future to an actual bright and happy life married to the one she cares about. ||
It's the hardest emotional gut punch chapter in the setting and probably my favorite.

yessssss
The gaggle of misfits has grown a lot from being at each others throats to a genuine family ready to fight and die for one another. ||In one case, they did but we brought them back.||
Long way from just being brash to one another and pulling at ears.
In bun's case literally pulling her ears, fuck you Elijah that was rude.
You'll have to elaborate on ||bringing them back||, dm if it's easier than dancing on spoilers here
||All but one of my PCs died in a simulation at some point. Pear was trapped in a repeating loop of simulations of his boyfriends death, where he could try different things but it always ended the same way, until his will was broken and he stopped trying. Calamity had an even worse fate. The woman she loved, who she had been torn away from and hadn't seen for thirty years died in her fucking arms. And that wasn't a simulation. They went into the 4ths downtime broken, scattered, and each alone. Pear and Calamity fell into alcohol and drugs respectfully, Gabriel threw himself into working so hard he passed out (Dr. Vanhutalo: "The clinical name is acute exhaustion but I've been calling it 'Jerry's disease' instead"), Kraken ran away to the Three Sisters station for a bit. Then they started to come back, find each other, had a big heartfelt reunion and apology session just before all the Ch5 stuff started exploding, and now they're back.||
wait, was I not supposed to be tearing out hearts until chapter 4?
(chapter 3 has been the "oh, your personal motivations and narratives produce some cognitive dissonance when placed next to each other? Let's examine that a little." chapter)
Ideally you should be tearing out hearts as much as possible, and when you're not doing that, all the NPC should be asking "why is nobody tearing out hearts right now?"
oh, the quiet building dread is the best part for me
It's why I let the "ha ha murder is fun" pirate backstory PC go without examination for this long. The better to get completely interwoven with the other PCs so everyone gets to suffer for it.
Dude I have the same PC. Knight of the dark core, defending all his “enhanced interrogation” or “we only kill rich people” jokes with his pirate code.
Guess what fucker, you pissed off the blacksmith and broke his code. Now you’re about to get kicked out of the order and have to be a good person without some creed to guide you.
THEN THEY GO TO BOLTZMANN
How about an alternate universe where after your parents were killed by the hounds, instead of growing up and joining the knights you joined the hounds, making your way up through the ranks so you could kill Capella yourself but slowly lost yourself in nihilism and atrocity
lol, yup, I don't anticipate getting this character to feel regret for their actions (player's chill tho), so the logical course of action is to get everybody else to have to feel that regret instead. already caused a record scratch moment for another PC's revenge arc with "wait, wait, wait, you're trying to get revenge on us and you're hanging out with who!?"
Nice
Well! Assembling soon for session 0-1ish.
The fire team and eventual heroes of Calliope in this timeline aaaare:
-Wrenchie who just wants to live somewhere better and apply her mechanic skills to mechs and is unfortunately The Normal One
-Former IPS-N mechanic miner turned mech pilot who is so IPS-N he has a trucker hat on his hardsuit helmet
-Escaped SSC super soldier catgirl with natural rainbow colored hair. Has lots of cattitude.
-Omninet streamer who is very curious why HORUS is giving her donations out of nowhere and wants to know more
-Masked pirate who gave up that life to go legit but also wants to be a gladiator
-House of Dust Karrakin Heir rich boy slumming it who will find out in LL2 that the ONLY thing his father left him is his mech and the rest of his family gets the estates, bank accounts, and pleasure yachts.
i almost forgot to add! one of our PCs is ex-Circuit so finding the entire Circuit dead in Boltzmann is going to be fun

I got a player who flavored it as a teleportation rift thing
Anyway, I like this one enough to stay with this version and I didn't think the logistics of forcing the lanes held together well from a construction/logistics POV, but if anyone wants a different take on the map, let me know. I don't like veering off in-book text and this one is pushing it for me.
Update: The PCs went on a Snack Run and the chomolungma managed to destroy 4 grunts at once via invading and turning off their reactor safeties.
Also the superheavy melee weapon sagarmatha whiffed every shot except for the crit that ripped the Commander Hive in half
True and real tcb gaming
That is how my group's tcb everest tends to be - 6 whiffs and then the nastiest hit you've ever seen
as long as one hits you are on the board!
It's a very straight forward approach for a very nail biting scenario that involves the PC's going game to rush to the encounter. I think it works well but I can see someone perhaps taking a portion of the map, flipping it and creating their own two lanes but that could lead to some unneeded overlap from the NPC's.
When my players reach that point, I'll give my thoughts.
The ||Bad Star|| Map was excellent by the way! My Calendula player hid behind the big rock to take cover and the pc's bullied badstar enough for him to dive in and bring his curse of bad rolls
Oh, that idea makes me feel better. I'll put it in a readme for the map. I also think I'm going to put two diagrams in the bottom corners showing a wireframe version of the map from left and right angles, so you can better visualize the spaces on either side in 3D.
Glad you liked that map!
...You think NHPs who play video games have shackled and unshackled speedruns?
As categories?
Yes.
But I think unshackled gets poor views from humans because it's TOO fast to be interesting.
wouldn't that just be a TAS?
Probably a category of TAS, yes, but I expect that it's only relevant on games where speed limitations can be lifted. Like if you play Wing Commander on a modern computer it's impossible to play because there was no maximum speed, it just assumed your computer couldn't run too fast for human reflexes. (I played it again a decade or so after it came out and I had to run a program that added a pause between frames to get it back down to human processing speeds.)
the weird thing would be games made by NHPs for other NHPs
They have to exist, right?
Unshackled speedrun just spontaneously rewrites the source code...
Wait actually
It would end up like those Minecraft "in game time" speed runs where they break auto saves where the run is like 30 mins but in game time is like 5 seconds except the "in game time" is real time and the auto save fucking around is fucking with real-time and suddenly someone got a new record at second place at a speedrun clocking in at -1:03 seconds
Unshackled speedruns fell out of favor after they realized it was difficult to maintain time lists for games that no longer ever existed. (don't have to trip milestone flags if they were never present in the video game, taps nose three times)
Striga has a hell of a week when she gets stuck on the idea that RA created the universe to establish a permanent leaderboard first.
I imagine unshackled NHPs can play Nondeterministic Turing Machine Fuck-Fuck Games and just pull correct answers to problems out of their (figurative) asses. Unshackled speedruns would then largely consist of very arcane RNG-manips, such that a human player doesn't know the purpose behind half of the NHP's actions
Shackled NHP speedruns are presumably already pretty hard to follow, althoguh it might be tough to convince an unshackled one to comprehend the video game at all.
yeah I don't think unshackled is the word we should be using here
I think it's mentioned in the book that there's "limiters" that NHPs can use to play at human level/speeds
Specifically in reference to Siren's capacities for playing FleetComm, yes.
well i tried to introduce switch and they got immediately batted off :P
to be fair, the party is going through a weird time lol
also i'm wondering if i should run mission 3 before mission 2
the party got some insider info from a captured hound after mission 1 and they know the faith of the one is up to some shit
so i'm afraid that after fighting the cult on the icebreaker, spending two missions dealing with other problems might feel... unappealing?
So I was thinking the same thing - but. Mission 3 is when they meet ignatius for the first time, and I think its kinda cool that they know he's behind it, he knows they know, and yet he's perfectly polite about it. It also sets up the faith team that's on boltzmann, basically lets the "faith are the big bads of the setting" feeling die down a bit before chapter 5 hits and they blow up
idk i feel like my players would be the type to just shoot ignatius first chance they get lol
well
the book does specifically say what happens if they do that
one of my players almost used Tear Throat on Ignatius, but was talked down
The other gm in our group banned it for wallflower, and the group was terrified when I allowed it in this one
Then the most outwardly morally correct guy took it specifically because he wants to kill Rod Steel
jokes on them lmao
I don't know why people see Tear Throat as such a big deal
you can already kill NPCs without that bond power
waiting with bated breath as the rest of the party somehow convinces themselves that Rodricke is also a member of the elect and will just reincarnate
so they don't bother
I mean in that case you want to do it even more cause you'll get to kill him again
or, worse, he has a clone he named Rodricke Steele II
spawn trap the fire gate
Poor scar he didn't deserve to die such horrible death,so does bdubs ;)
I will make more minecraft content, stay tuned for more funny moments!
...i just realized the HORUS streamer PC in my friend's group who just started said that during the Negotiating in Snack Run, she offered to do some free advertising for Impact Dynamics while price haggling
Oh that's going to sting later on
Also. A thought. Would it be implausible to give players the chance to play around with Exotics from other Adventures?
On one side some of those are more specialized and flavorful for the adventure they come in, on the other it would be very funny for someone to get a hold of something from Wallflower or Dustgrave and wonder "What the fuck how did this even get here?!"
totally. especially if you can find a reason for something like that to get there, or be there
i actually made a few of my own!
I mean, when they give exotics in the official adventures, they specifically call out the option of swapping in stuff from other sources. At least, one of them does. I remember reading it vividly. 🙂
I had not read that or must have missed it so, thus, rad!
The trick will be persuading my GM to do the same when I play because I am thinking of Calendula for my hercynian refugee (human) and that frame + brood sibling molt got me all 👀
I guess technically they say other non-exotics, but I believe the logic holds:
Sounds reasonable enough to me
"What the fuck how did this even get here?!"
it's calliope, i ain't gotta explain shit
it Just Got Here™️
nothing says you can't
and plenty of other adventures' exotic gear are just unusual but mundane equipment that would make sense to be available in calliope
like Dusgrave's blast pick
true. mining equipment.
And also ||Juan Tismon|| having a franchise stand in ||Boltzman|| just makes good sense.
I used Liminal Space for some extra exotics
MO&S is extremely Calliope, all their stuff is super funny and cool
field guide to liminal space requires a drivethrurpg account to get the free LCP, which is annoying, so i haven't bothered
there's lots of good stuff, probably worth making an account for just to read the funni flavor stuff
By the Great Golden Flame as a support player that makes me
I've made an LCP of custom exotic gear based off of past characters' mech builds in campaigns I've finished, and I always leave choices from there open whenever unspecified exotic gear is made available.
Not at my computer at the moment, but I can describe some. For my first Wallflower group, I had one player go with a Pegasus/Monarch build, but he kept a standard mortar mounted for the whole run. Almost every time he got structured though, he lost his Mortar. So I made a mortar/gandiva hybrid thing that gets to make a free skirmish before it would be destroyed as a result of a structure damage roll.
AMAZING
Another ending build was a Tortuga running a paracausal mod on a decksweeper that made a few of the final combats a LOT easier. So there's a slightly cheaper, slightly worse paracausal mod that can only be mounted on cqb weapons too.
you already know what tf boutta happen (anticapital)
missile about to get chom'd back into sunbird?
???
My players are reaching the end of Mission 2... I desperately need to make new maps... But I also am waiting for the inkarnate beta... It's so close... I can get it soon... Then get back to map making 😩
this was mine
used a macro from @thorn hinge to cycle between them every few seconds
Mind passing that macro my way?
Oh yeah - @rough bluff my players are loving the anticapital map. The staging is awesome, and there's a ton of forced movement in the party so they're trying to weaponize the constantly shifting damage zones and enjoying the hell out of it.

Oh, good. That's exactly what I was going for. Those debris fields make life interesting. 🙂
I need any prerequisites for this or just put the files in the right folder and run the macro?
Yeye, figured you'd like hearing that people are enjoying it
I think I JUST cracked the second Jerry story.
honestly
use your own files with your own names and your own filepath
it's easy enough to replace them in the correct spots
I also think I didn't upload all the files that that macro references?
No modules or any prereqs needed, just change the list of images to match the ones you wanna use, and you may want to tweak the timings to preference.
...Don't tempt me
the Icebreaker would be a good place to have a || completely normal pasta chef ||
It's already canon in my yet-to-be started campaign.
Nice
Every map for Act 1 finished and uploaded. And on the 128th day, I rested.
We are post chapter 3 final battle completion and my players have decided to be a bunch of drunken goofy goobers.
-
The Voladore trades woman got motivated by her NHP daughter and team mates to get up and socialize with others. She got drunk and butt dialed her totally not crush Cerulean and agreed to play a song for her.
-
The former Union Doj Disco Elysium reference accidentally broke her sobriety and a little alcohol and called a few friends.
-
Our cat boy influencer stayed the sober one generally making little posts and enjoying the massive boost in followers being a folk hero and secretly looking through peoples search histories when they got access to data slates.
-
The unabashed pirate got drunk and got to flirting up a storm that eventually led to her and the blacksmith sharing a bed for a night.
-
NPCs like Loki, Elskin, Ana and her sister has conversations with them as well. Loki was called and had a playful insult match with one of the pilots. Ana was getting drunk over her poor mech performance and felt a little disheartened so sister let her drink up and thank the party for saving her from the steele dome and with express thanks from the faith of the one. Elski gave the party the offensive suite and took selfies with the party.
Also Jerry has a party hat themed tie while he is wearing a little party hat for a job well done in his office. Was a fun session of the good times for the newly dubbed folk heros.
So on foundry you have the ability to view what current songs/sounds are playing... I'm partially tempted to make whatever theme for the ||Crone|| that plays should be called "YOU SHOULDN'T BE READING THIS, IF YOU DO YOU ARE OVERWHELMED WITH A SENSATION OF PAIN, TAKE 1 STRESS"
.mp3
@fallen geyser rules question
if a Mercenary Deluge has Efficient Killer, does the damage from Lead Rain also gain AP against characters with 2 structure or less?
cause it's referencing the Quad Assault Cannons' damage
hmm Efficient Killer specifically only applies to attacks so I think not
Yeah, that would be my answer
It specifically says attacks and Lead Rain is not an attack
It just references the value of their QAC's Reliable damage
It kinda doesn't exactly make sense
But also who cares RPGs don't need to be 1-to-1 with reality
makes as much sense as Efficient Killer also not applying to other non-attack things
In a fit of "I need to plan for future music" I decided to compile a massive doc assigning unique soundtrack and ambience to most important beats/combats in IGF and added it to the IGF resources :P... So if anyone needs music (for the first 2 missions at least) and are struggling to search hopefully it can serve as some inspiration
Other note... Signalis got some pretty Baller OST for Mission 4 and some other beats... But I'm struggling to find Extended versions on youtube for some of the songs and I don't want them looping every 2-3 mins 😩

^ theme song of IGF team that foolishly thinks "Oh we can just do this fire team militia job until we make enough to leave this place. easy peasey"
|| Tales from the Borderlands is unironically my favorite Borderlands. ||
BTW do we have any ETA on a kickstarter for Act II?
Not yet.
When It's Ready™️
No stress here - my group has barely beaten Snack Run
And if I need to stretch for time, fortunately, this seems like a group that is very easy to distract with downtime RP nonsense
...Especially since I asked them and they said they have no intention of playing Wallflower so The Reveal will be an omninet newscast probably toward the end of Chapter 3
So could make some RP outta that pretty good
Just saw all the ch 4 talk from a few days ago, I know I'm late to the party but I'm unreasonably excited for ch 4. My players are currently at the steel dome so we're getting close (at our pace probably still a couple months tho 😅). We've been developing a bunch of party drama over the past couple chapters and I expect a lot of it to come to a breaking point in Boltzman. One of the PCs holds the cult responsible for the death of her friend and is becoming more and more of a crusader. Ever since the rest of the group decided to ||accept reserves from Ignatius Aurum|| things have been tense to say the least. Another PC ||returned to the crone and got an astral stigmata without telling the others who had completely noped out of her cabin||
OH JEEZ
So the Lancer group where I'm a player is also doing IGF because I convinced our GM it'd be a good intro to play for our 2 new players for this 4 player 1 GM group
The fire team group in this timeline is:
-Guy who is a former Icebreaker wrenchie but is so terrible about collateral damage when in a mech he straight up got the callsign 'Breaker' and was booted to Hell's Gate after getting a lifetime ban. Swears he didn't lose his arm due to an accident no one believes him. Artillery fanatic.
-Guy from family that got booted out of the Purview for the usual reasons. Has a chip on his shoulder and wants to use his hacker skills to dig up dirt and secret info on HA and give it to Horizon/HORUS, he's not picky. But otherwise an okay chill guy but is incredibly morose and cynical, so of course his callsign is 'Sunny'
-An individual of dubious gender who is an android by way of having 90% of their body be cybernetic. A body mod enthusiast who went a little crazy. It all started with a single cybernetic ear and went to this. Has a helmet with a screen face that usually has a ^w^ by default and kind of sees the mech as their bigger and stronger body and really likes puppets, their callsign 'Marionette' reflects that.
-Hercynian refugee (me) who has aggressively decided to defend her new home after getting lost in the Long Rim and arriving in Calliope. May have regrets that she fled in the first place and also hates HA and SecCom but after getting updated on current events after she was defrosted, is kinda okay with Union. Bit creepy with how she dresses like a humanized Hollow Knight character, and does hydroponic and xenobotany in her spare time, also mild pyrophobia. Often uses her tertiary arms with mag clamps to 'Skitter' up walls, hence her callsign.
sounds like a good party
honestly curious what will happen when they meet Loki
loki is unhateable
he's just a guy! a friend! even my party's certified HA-hater likes him!
woagh, we got a sunny too!
is their name ironic too or non-ironic?
i omor
One of my players is trying to ask Ana to help her make a blink engine for her new Saladin frame.
Help :'D
ana can absolutely do the engineering aspect of that, maaaybe not the temporal mechanics lol
if your players were to attempt to swindle the blacksmith, that could be what the thief has?
the thief explicitly has SSC tech as well
so something in competition to Odin's stuff would be a hot commodity
I'm pretty sure the Thief has something for the players to aid them in time for Act 2, but that comes with the Black smiths ire.
pg37 of draft 15, it was the blacksmith who had found a facility beneath amphion, which is what SSC hired him to find
the theif is a poor UIB guy
help i think the HORUS wannabe streamer player in my game is falling for S1GN4L
their trashtalking each other in Denial of Service was almost fl1rt4t10us
get Loki in on it
The funny player former doj member, Anastasia Shan the ship mechanic and Loki the prodigal son of the armory all colab to bring you...
The blink Saladin.
Ah yes, Sunzaladin
LL2 Saladin LL1 in sunzi
a fire gate based Sunzi alt would be a hell of a mech
Dunno how it'd be different from reg Sunzi
Burn damage?
Fair
ive tentatively lined up my first time GMing anything, let alone lancer, and i thought IGF would be a good pick
session 0 is still a while off, but are there any tips yall have i should keep in mind beforehand
this campaign rewards the PCs having strong ties with NPCs and preferably also some kind of secret or plan with what direction they want their character to go in
A fun trick I came up with is to have a player pick an NPC off the list of NPCs in hells gate that they know. If you wanna have a bunch of fun, have them roll on the table and then justify "how the hell does my ex-military uptight asshole know Mikayla.omnif?"
I like showing my players the list of npcs and asking them to come up with scenes that might involve one or more of them, though some I come up with ideas on my own, and sometimes I'll roll randomly and make something happen or ask the player to figure it out. I'm big on offloading the creative demands of the game onto my players like that, and my game comes a bit closer to collaborative storytelling for it.
Jacquerel is absolutely correct about the game rewarding players for getting invested, and it's more than just the NPCs. Give your players time to learn the setting of calliope, and encourage them to come up with concepts that might tie into the area. They don't have to be natives (none of my PCs are) but having some history in the area helps a lot. If someone wants to have lived on asphodel for a bit before ending up on hell's gate, that just opens up a ton of opportunities for them when ||chapter 3|| comes around. Having spent time on any other station means people and places they already know when the game starts.
IGF was my first lancer game and it was my players first time with the system too, and it's become the best campaign any of us has been a part of. A large part of that is the ways we managed to work together to tell some deeply emotional stories about peopel who are a small part of a larger dynamic world.
My map for Chapter 5's ||Lift the Veil||
I took a lot of inspiration from @rough bluff 's layout for the same map; the wires, the control room on the left side from the players entering, and using the ||fire gate|| as the only light source. Each pylon has a broken version layered underneath so I just need to delete the top tile as they get busted.
Posted my pixel art for the centerpiece and some more context on the other channel: #909574961931362365 message and the assets will all go live on my share drive as soon as I am both back on my home computer and also remember to do it.
my only thought is that the back half of that room probably isn't going to get much play 😅
that isn't really a problem though, just means it's going to be a knife fight
I've been running a lot of knife fights, but to be fair this one has a ||
5
3 wielding ultra.|| at the same time tho, that backfield is a great place ||for the grunt engineers to put up a bunch of turrets and hide in, especially if I add more cover there||. This fight's going to get really weird on me anyway, because the players will be missing a PC for the first round or possibly two. ||Calamity is going to jump into the fire gate in the narration before the fight starts, and come out later after having a nice talk with the bird lady on the other side.||
wow, my brain managed to hold on and I remembered to upload the files. Cool.
Funny you should say that, that's what my group did for one player knowing Striga
He, unfortunately, shops at the same convience store as her and they have an uncanny ability to run into one another
no shared interest as he is a relatively sane software wrenchie
poor guy
our players definitely gave us a good amount to work with. its wild how many hooks we've been able to attach them to so far just due to their backstories alone
one player is ||ex-Circuit, permanently integrated with another NHP from the Circuit. Just... mission 4. Being technically the last surviving member of the Circuit is going to be fun, I think||
another wanted to be ||Ana's brother, but didn't know about the Inner Cult connections.||
So far my players are hooked into the stories of Jerry, Rita, the blacksmith, clip, Irvin Reid and plenty others. Give your players little rp and happy moments for all the bunk they deal with makes for fonder connections to all the NPCs.
So far cerulean is looking to be a romantic interest for my vol player, Mikaela is the totes bff of my detective player, samouron is grandma to my cat boy and calamity is crime coded with my sunlighter.
So, I let my players take an exotic from Liminal Space at the end of chapter 3, as a treat.
one of my players took Claiomh Solais, which is objectively nightmare fuel and has a NHP with this flavor text:
Núada sleeps uneasily. One of the original NHPs designed to travel through blinkspace; it lost its mind to the impossibilities of that realm. The maimed god is still in shock, responding like a sleepwalker to orders and questions. Despite that, its insights are hard to overstate as the NHP forms impossible links and gives half-formed prophecy to its Lancer. Occasionally it turns and tosses, nightmares crossing its mind. Pilots are recommended to cycle Núada-class NHPs before long as the nightmares become increasingly common. Do not let it remember.
How do I bully all my players better now that they all have slightly hinged NHPs
also, I drew Nuada
he's eeby
Snoozer
I want to leave food for them for when they wake up
C:
I also have a Nuada in my party
Don't I, @hasty jolt
yes, yes you do
Playlists for tonight's session, the last fight of Act 1. I'm certainly going overboard with 4 different playlists and a stupid amount of music, but... well. Overboard is kind of my brand at this point.
||One for the "keep up the pressure" narrative combat with a lot of high energy pounding kicking ass sort of songs. I allowed these to have lyrics when I don't normally. Going to manually start it off with Highway Star (belter version). ||
||The andros fight has two playlists, the first is more desperate and hostile music, heavy focus on metal. The team will be missing a member at first because she's going to jump into the fire gate. They have to fight capella and have no idea when or IF she'll come back. They can't risk closing the portal until she does. ||
||There's an interlude playlist for a scene that'll happen in the middle of the fight. Calamity is going to talk to god. ||
||And finally, Calamity returns from the fire gate and the andros fight gets a second dose of music, this time more epic uplifting and heroic. Still dangerous, but standing tall against it.||
Heyyy Into the Darkness is there
heck yeah! I got that from you, I'm certainly going to use it :3
I'm glad I'm not the only mad GM constantly looking through music for those campaign moments to lineup the scene.
rules_of_nature.mp3
YES YES SPLIT THEM WIDE OPEN
I hope my team goes with the idea of naming the strategic response team 'Hearthfire' because:
- The thematic appropriateness of fire that helps and is necessary for comfort, warmth, and civilization opposed to flame that only seeks to destroy and turn things to ashes
and - I get to add this song during the playlist for the end of Act 1 fight

question, have you kept a running tab of your playlists throughout the campaign? i know it would be SO MUCH WORK, so if the answer is no or thats a lot to compile together, thats super duper fair
I... have not. And I was really bad about using playlists early on? Some sessions just had nothing. But I've been going hard on it in Chapters 4 & 5
I do want to do that tho
When I finish act 1 I'm going to compile a bunch of the stuff I've figured out and make a lot more things available to the community, though some of it I'll need to figure out. Like, I have every handout and NPC and community stats block and basically the entire book in foundry as journals with HTML formatting and everything. But also, I can't just... give people all the content from the book like that. (spoilers for one handout and the mission 4 briefing doc)
But figuring out all the music I've used is a part of that.
attach a method of access to the itch page?
salivating over the prospect of doing less works and delivering quality content to the players
(hint for the logs: style="font-family: monospace;")
otherwise this is sick as hell
@rough bluff do you mind modifications to your maps?
No, what do you need to modify?
(I just ask because it might be something that takes you a while but I can do in a couple minutes.)
I just was going to make a "Round 0" version of Anti-Capital covered in static, for the weird inbetween of Thermopylae and Anti-Capital
YEah, I don't mind if you do that, but say more. I can't TELL yet if it would be super easy for me.
I just applied a noise & blur filter to the gridless R1 image
Oh, sure, yeah. I was wondering if you wanted it without the strut and with the terrain moved a bit. That would take me minutes and but you hours. 🙂
I should be good, thanks :)
Awesome!
That is adorable, I love it. XD (And yes, it's a bit understated but a recurring theme with MOI is they have a ratshit history of treating NHPs like people)
eepy friend
I love all the flavor text in that book, s-tier for sure
rn he's still eeby (mostly because the player doesn't have room for 2 NHPs) but i'm sure they're gonna take Lesson of Shaping soon and then he'll wake up
The tort's Munin is very uncomfortable around the nuada
what book is it? i need more things in my library
Field guide to liminal space

My group runs terk (for the mechs and to playtest) and intercorp (mostly for the talents but the mechs are cool too) but I really want to add Waffenfabrik as the Impact Dynamics foundry
but its just too much homebrew for me to allow it in good conscience
understandable
ive only allowed a bit of HB, so far just the very few liminal space things and a few things i made. I think one of my players wants to play the kunai but really just wants the frame, not the whole hb, so i'm probably just gonna roll it into Horus
i've incorporated my hb alt frames into calliope lore so i can get my players to playtest them for me
Yeah, too much homebrew runs into stacking issues. I love homebrew but even I don't generally allow more than 1-2 at a time (Which ironically means that Iki will not allow all Iki creations at the same time)
Got my map for Roadblock up in the folder and ready for Sunday... I think this is the most symmetrical thing I have made for Lancer but hopefully it gives the escort lanes some decision making 😅

no worries !
okay lmao bad choice, some of my oldest journals are made off of some of the earliest drafts of the book. But like, that's what I'm talking about, I gotta fix up my stuff lmao
@fallen geyser you mentioned in a recent ask on Tumblr that you were willing to send people drafts for act 2, could I take you up on that?
Oh sure
(apologies for the ping, just realized that might be an issue)
No it's good
I might not have noticed otherwise
There's a lot of stuff in this thread nowadays!
Anyway
Very true!

Excellent, thank you!
STRICTLY NO PLAYERS! SPOILERS!
My players are loving this campaign so far, just want to stay thinking ahead
(Not really, players can peek if they're prepared for spoilers and their GMs give them permission!)
We just did Sunbird 1 last night
That's one of my proudest works. How did it go?
It went pretty well! Players picked up on how to fight it quickly but they all still got pretty heavily damaged
They would have been more damaged if it wasn't for two absolutely devastating melee barrages after the armor was stripped
Sunbird 1 is a massive gut check to players. I wrecked two players and cause a player NHP to cascade.
I love that fight because it involves you knowing some core ideas in lancer and rewards sound game knowledge but still able to win if you know how to get passed certain defences on it.
I love that fight because ||It gives the GM a chance to cut loose and have some fun. The battle was already won, the fire gate was destroyed. The PCs are going to get a full repair, and if they already recovered the focal array they've beaten the mission. If you've been holding back or fudging things like your target priority to take it easy on the players, you don't have to worry about that here. And if the player lose, it's not entirely without consequence: the GM gets to keep Sunbird-1 around to bring back in some time >:D||
best roll on the campaign again
its started
THEY PARRIED A WOLFHOUND MISSILE INTO SUNBIRD
gottem
PC destroyed round 1.
Since I'm using my IGF party to test these, and they're technically canon in my games, I thought it'd be fun to merge my HB alt frames with calliope lore
I just love calliope and how easy it is to go "yeah this weird shit happened, don't worry about it"
oh god one of our player's NHPs are cascading
pure fucking chaos
HUGE
Yo wait this is clean, do you have a forum thread?
techno NHP, i assume?
oh, nah, i just use these for my own table
they're still a wip but working them into igf lore has been really fun
Well, I'd be interested to see if you ever decide to make them public! The concept of the melusine sounds real neat
yeppp
yes, but also it's inside their skull. Fun Times
I might, just for more playtest data xD

Temporary "Hertz"
James "Katabasis" Shan
Morgan "Chariot Jackal" Hyde
Fennel "Soundwave" Vaunters

so, yeah. anti-capital.
we ended the session at the end of round 2, start of round 3. we have:
-One cascading NHP
-One destroyed mech, and a pilot trying to jockey Sunbird One (James)
-Everyone down at least one Structure a piece
-Zero OPFOR kills

What is it with the canon event that sunbird makes an NHP cascade??? This has happened to another buddy gaming IGF and myself!
Highly dangerous fight, you hit more 1 in 20 chances when you roll twice or three times as often than a regular fight
I have it prepped as a Behemoth fight, but I won't get to run it until I finish a game. 🙂
made custom hardsuits for the Nyakuza
Behold
the Calico Armored Maneuver Gear (Mikaela got them for the team)
incredible
needs a silly acronym, I think
The fact Mikaela thought of ear space. Thank you Mikaela
in one of my games there's a catgirl with a mech named Neuro-Enchephalic Kinetic Operator
hehe
our game's catgirl is going to name her Monarch the "Mewlti-Mewcross Mewssile Meowssacre."
did a quick color
guess you could call it 'Calico' Armored Tactical gear
or CAT gear for short

give this to your Catgirl PC
i know you have one

I am so happy someone is thinking for the biomodded individuals with the ears
Hardlight Ear protection.
It's an area that is really interesting in Lancer as there is mention in the corebook that core worlds tend to be more 'baseline human' in looks when it comes to augmentation, with things getting more interesting as you go further out.
I cannot remember if it is ACTUAL canon or speculative canon but I remember reading somewhere that 'heavily genespliced' (furry) and android (90% cybernetics) individuals are looked at as being very... political?
Since some groups genesplice or droid themselves to make a point of stretching the definition of 'human' for Union's laws that apply to personhood.
...The individuals themselves might not care much about politics but core world Union people might look at them like general society would see someone with a biker jacket full of Anarchist symbols and slogans
again, I do not remember if that was canon or just speculative but I've incorporated it into my Lancer Canon Belief System ™️
This is what the book itself has to say about it.
Ah must have been speculation then, based on this very information!
I now in my own writing I touched on it a hair but that's a bit out of the topic of this channel. XD
True but hey, if a few other people's Lancer games I know of that are thinking of or are doing IGF are accurate, Calliope has a notably higher furry demographic than elsewhere in the Long Rim
I think Vex has talked about on the topic of (Wallflower) ||Egregorians, that "being an alien moth person that talks in colors is only like the seventh weird thing a calliopean has going on"||
or something similar
I am very curious if my DM will include Wallflower events since the Lancer I'm playing is a Hercynian refugee. || A human one but she dresses like a more colorful hollow knight character||
But (More Wallflower spoils) || Striga is going to be rapturous once that becomes new omninet news. "SEE? I TOLD YOU VENT CRABS WERE HYPER INTELLIGENT!" ||
My vision for that map when I got round to making it is actually basically identical
oh this is good
im working on a fucked up bunny thing too, one of my players has a vtuber rival named alice
so excited to make a march hare pegasus
HARE PEGASUS
Hang on, Char was using a peggy before we got Loki to give up sunzi codes ;D
I love making up scripture for the faith.
Finally pulling the trigger on running IGF Act 1, after many recommendations from my players. After reading the book, I can see why. There’s a lot to love, and I can’t wait to start. Just need to finish all this setup and prep, which of course includes an elaborate landing page, courtesy of Figma, photoshop, and Ada’s guide and assets
Always glad to see the ways my work has helped people. In return, I may well take some inspiration from you! I'm wrapping up Act 1 now, and when I start act 2 I plan to do a whole new landing page with "better" graphics ||representing a systems upgrade from Union in support of Hell's Gate after the widely publicized events on Fort Cerberus||
Welcome to the gym club. Let any of us know if you need feedback to bounce ideas across, maps, tokens, etc. we like to help one another out. I've been pumping out borderlands style title cards for select characters.
Much appreciated. The forum and the gm thread have already proven to be a wealth of information and resources. Also, I wouldn't mind a gander at these borderlands style cards
Honestly I might put them in the resources if people really want them.
I just don't want to impose ;v;
Here's an example I got for one of them
👀
you totally should
I at least dig through the resources spreadsheet for fun stuff to add whenever I prep for the next mission, more stuff to dig through would be welcome
I havewaited LONG ENOUGH for sci fi assets for Inkarnate, AND I FIINALLY HAVE IT SO I CAN MAKE MAPS AGAIN >:D
Currently doing guardian angel: These are the assets before from my cancelled rendition of S1GN4L fight, kinnda shite but kitbashed from fantasy so good enough
VS Guardian angel assets now >:D
DO IT, I've had to cobble them together from your posts, and I still missed that Jerry one
Oh jeez I'm so sorry, you should have messaged me!
I'll add them when I get a moment post gym today to do so.
I'm exaggerating slightly, I've just been saving the ones I've noticed 😆
no actual pressure, my primary intent was to be encouraging
I believe I need to make one for clip and for a certain someone in chapter 4
Clip has such potential for title card goofiness
I made up some extra lines for him for CH5 that I'm decently proud of, here they are in case they yield any inspiration:
||"What in Mother Anarchy's name was that?"||
||"This is Clip Magazine of the Furnace City Milita, we've arrived at the fortress and are deploying. No god, no master, and no... whatever the Sam-fuck is coming out of that portal is going to stop us. Now tell us where you need us"||
Mission 3: ||Abduction|| BACK WWITH THE MAPS >:D
oh that is nice
Also I have a question about the updated section of the pinned resources doc
Is it DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY?
It isn't standardised so some stuff is in the future regardless of which way you read it
canot believe i forgor to post this
one of my players drew the scene where the sherman blew up || Steeles giant statue in mission 3, right before roadblock|| https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1121319701868449832/1214765888188850267/image.png?ex=661f37e5&is=660cc2e5&hm=3a88e5eaa9ceb367c3acc9e542bc153b3880e269fb47c4fd5e97421408094062&=&format=webp&quality=lossless&width=517&height=662
oh this has great vibes
i like to think that by stubbornly entering my date in european format im just contributing to the Calliope lifestyle
I have no idea but it's probably on me. I use ISO dates (YYYY/MM/DD) whenever possible and google doesn't like that, reformatting at will.
euro format is superior to US format, but ISO can be sorted lexicographically or numerically so it's the best.
Specifically it's a Pegasus Alt called the unicorn
I'm considering doing a mini adventure between act 1 and Act 2 so my players can get some level 5 play in, were they all play as one of the connected NPCs that were written up for their personal stories
"Mad as a March Hare" is a deranged build /pos
What is it with rabbit themed pilots and Peggy/sunzi favoritism?
Well Alice uses heavy artillery, as a thematic foil to the player s character being a support mech user
Pegasus/Unicorn just happens to give me that
Can't believe that I'm so excited to run this and so excited too continue to flesh out the narratives of my players that I'm already scheming one shots tied to their story
The prep phase is the best. You can plot some of the most genuine heartfelt moments and some of the cruelest gut wrenching moments
This is Gherkin's intended LL6 loadout. THIS IS ON A TOKUGAWA< I"M SCREWED
Oh its beautiful
4th time in a row an allied mech taking their first structure in Snack Run got Stunned
only the dead can know peace from this evil
What does he plan to do with his turns?
Also, he doesn't get to use Nuclear Cavalier except with the prototype weapon, because it's the first attack roll and Autogun doesn't benefit from talents.
autogun also doesn't trigger talents, so it won't eat the nuccav proc
nuccav will fire on the intmount nexus
Yes, it will. The nexus attack is the second attack roll made.
first one that the talent sees
#rules-questions message
Even if Autogun doesn't trigger it, it's still the first attack roll, and the nexus is the second.
k
Oh yeah! You mentioned in the guide about the planets in the system diagram getting stuck sometimes. Not sure if you've since addressed this, but I encountered this specifically with Calliope and its various incarnations. Turns out there's like a minute of static frames in the animation. I cut those out with the one I used (the cropped version), if you're interested.
Update: Saved the snack run by our hacker doing an invade and controlling the cargo ship for a second
May have fried its systems by making it take 4 Energy damage but it's fiiiiine and literally the only way to win after getting stunned 4 times
Oh and also one knockback from a gun
The HG-Lift With Your Knees is dinged up but not pilfered
Meanwhile we got the second mission and we had one turn with S1GN4L and now are debating if we DO apprehend him if we should break his fingers or just make sure he gets put in a room with nothing more advanced than a GMS toaster
just to keep him from shitposting
fair
you underestimate S1GN4L's power
unfortunately, we probably do
one of our party members is too moral to want to not bring him aboard Hell's Gate because she thinks Andros will try to gut him if he fails and another of our party members actually finds him funny
IC at least
are you GM or player, out of curiosity?
if player, what're your thoughts on S1GN4L?
my players hate him, especially after he escaped the fight largely unscathed after spending its entirety fucking with them
they ended up blackmailing him for his hat
GM in one, player in the other.
And as a player, I think our opinion about him will depend entirely on how well the mission goes. But my character is the stuffy yet compassionate character so is personally not blaming him, already conjuring an image in her mind of "I bet Andros Capella himself threatened S1GN4L's poor sick grandma"
The rest of the party thinks she's overreacting
oh, that's wonderful lmao
S1GN4L is my favorite (i have a lot of favorites in this book but S1GN4L holds a special place for showing up briefly and just being a shitposting menace that has instilled a number 1 targetting priority on mirages)
but also don't want to kill anyone who isn't trying to kill them since they are just here for data. The GM has said that S1GN4L's body guards are all Hell Hounds and some of them have spoken openly of claiming our bounties, so those ones are fair game.
I am curious how the players in the game I'm GMing will react to Howl. Since Howl is so wolf affiliated and the other game has a SSC (supersolider) catgirl. And the other person is an androided deergirl (like a catgirl but deer. Robo hoofie feet)
Both of which probably will have opinions about wolves.
No joke, but I think Howl will be the most popular in both groups. She's great. And fun. And hot. But also great!
I think he intends to fire the prototype weapon 😆. Fights tend to be over in 1-3 rounds for my group because there are 7 of them. So with Engineering and Grease Monkey, he can probably carry enough ammunition to use it most rounds
3 fucking autoguns jesus
That sounds both
A) Very tactical
but also
B) Slightly boring
Considering he's been playing absolute crazy bullshit the entire time, I think he either needs a break, or will find a way to make it insane. His other builds have included: Dismount Lich with Black Thumb, Stunspam Chomolungma (with Manticore's Smite and Caliban's Hardpoint Reinforcement), and Unraveler +OpCal +NucCav Pegasus
Honestly, respect cause auto guns are a support players dream gun.
Yes I will do all my support set up and proc my dice for field analyst, orator or whatever at the end of my turn....fire auto guns for damage to help out finish off weak targets or soften them up
Working on a bunch of NPCs for my players' backstory and personal story arc stuff
oh this rules
The exports for Guardian Angel are on the share. They require the Module FXMaster for rain and cloud effects.
Act 1 as (mostly) Marx quotes
(posted this in the GM thread at first, realized this one might be better)
huh, never made the connection. I mostly saw all of act 1 of being stuck in a place that's been cursed and you got to gradually fix it in your own small town way.
Plus the spooky shit ™️ that happens in some chapters
This is my own personal creation based on my reading of the campaign lmao, I just picked quotes that I thought fit
When did Marx say "What the fuck?"
When he saw the interior of his lich frame. Keep up
I don't know but he probably did at least once
So I made Mission 3 ||Surprise suprise|| before:
Then Inkarnate had a beta and I got motivated
So I remade it:
Tad bit of a glow up
You’re cooking
very nice
Ran the Mission 2 combat - || Thermopylae. One player got destroyed on two structure (unfortunate stun while closest to all the Engineer’s turrets), and ended the session on the cliffhanger of the Fire Gate exploding - now I need to decide if I let them scrap the mech back together in time for Anti-Capital, or have it miraculously have it back as it was before, reasoning they actually “died” and got spat back out by the Fire Gate as it exploded, leaving them with the fun of discovering over time that they kinda came back from death! ||
Oh, I definitely recommend them ||accidentally being resurrected||.
In fact, if you wanna get REAL freaky funstyle with it, have ||the thing on the other side of the portal address the relevant player: "my champion. Your work is not yet done."|| Ask @thorn hinge for more details >:)
👀
Hello, all. To adhere to Vex's wishes on generative art, I've removed myself from the share document and deleted all my posts featuring maps. (Except the system map, that one should be clean). If you spot any post I missed, please let me know so I can delete it.
idk i just think the imp is kinda neat
YO
I guess it's forewarned.
Update: Players got through the Tachyon in Act 1 with only getting half slagged
One of the players was convinced the spooky stuff happening in the Tachyon was thanks to an NHP who was still there but somehow invisible to sensors and when the ship suddenly, violently, disappeared said they hoped the NHP got out of there okay.
Me:
Agreed! Is very cool
tempted to make it not a doddle
artorias pose goes hard
I put the Imp in front of my players yesterday and had a big ol' build brainstorm, the consensus seems to be that Infiltrator and TTT are mandatory
Also immediately had a player look at the Rivalry talent and ask if they could be rivals with their own UNCLE-class COMP/CON, which paints such a goofy picture
I'm not sure if the action economy favors infiltraror 2 vs fragsig
TTT key for sure
melee hacker is my favorite niche so I'm all about a lil gremlin creechur that hacks and stabs people
Cause fragsig also gives you bonus damage
I'm not sure on TTT vs opcal or autostab though
I gues it's like, a little bit of both
Cause you get a bit of accuracy and a bit of extra damage (by making it irreducible)
But not as much as either of the other talents
Hm, autostab also couldn't help the antilogic blade but TTT could
So yea
Ive said before but i think i like mech variants more than whole new mechs
Especially ones that are role/play style switches
Why's that? You can(and probably should) Hide early in a sitrep to get close, and that just gives you a free chance to grab 2 more statuses.
yeah but that's once
after you get stuck in I'm not sure hiding is necessarily worth the action cost
Sometimes, sure, but for many sitreps where the group is encouraged to split or where there's a lot of movement requred to get to the objective, you'd be able to hide at least one additional time.
Its definitely not an all-the-time thing, but when there's not a juicy target close by its a good way to prepare ahead of time to land a bigger hit.
Mission 3: ||[ERROR]||
IDK if it's still WIP or done... I feel like I can do more but I don't know what more I can do to a map that is purely wasteland valley. I intend for all cover here to be about height 4 (even the 1x1 and 2x2))'s... I need to sleep but I'd be glad tto hear if anyone thinks there's more I can add to it, stuff I should change, etc
(I also made sure it is possible to traverse from one side of the map to the other in a size 3 mech, if you want to go to more specific areas... UUUUH GL grab a plasma cutter or apoc rail IG)
I joked once that during downtime/when the PC's are off doing random stuff the NHPs like to hang out and get into mischief.
Now one of my players is running a one-off Monster of the Week NHP Special where we all play as our NHPs and get into mischief, but since im the DM usually, there was only one choice
She seems like an Assault Rifle kinda gal
am very excited
So my group just absolutely bodied Capella
