Let's go pikachu -- riding pokemon, catch by swinging wiimote, retells gen 1, can transfer mons from pogo

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond -- gen4 remake, 2.5d, it's fun and a nice dex.

Pokémon Sword -- gen 8, second-to-last. Kinda meh, the gimmick is dynamax, but all legendaries available

Pokémon Legends Arceus -- first open world pokemon game, set in the distant past of gen4, the best story-wise, doesn't have gyms or evil team (rocket/aqua/etc)

Pokémon Scarlet -- latest main series game, kinda fun. Some technical issues (switch is not powerful enough) but the gimmick (tera) is really nice and there's lots to play. If you want to play competitively you about have to get this one.

Note that for Sword or Scarlet you'll want to buy the DLC which costs extra.

Legends Arceus is the easiest to get shinies in, but that might just be me. It plays a sound when there’s a shiny so you don’t just walk past it.

what’s the best pokémon game on nintendo?

Depends on your play style. I really like Pokemon Legends Arceus but it takes a very different approach compared to the mainline games (despite being mainline).
A lot of people say good things about Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, I don't personally care for it, but it is the most recent installment in the main series.
I like Pokemon Sword and Shield a lot, although not as recent and some people don't care for it.
I wouldn't recommend Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl unless you want a Pokemon game on a budget.
There are other pokemon games that are older like Let's Go Eevee / Let's go Pikachu and other games outside of the main series like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Yes. There are different options in emerald rogue that you can take that I call “paths”. The rocks and trees are routes, the two pokemart clerks are mart rest stops, where you can buy pokeballs, potions, and tm’s, and the navy blue guy is a battle item rest stop, where you can change movesets, but mints, or buy held items/evo items.

And rocky helmet/leftovers on basically anything else
