I know Kenobi has already talked a little about this idea 2 years ago, but i kind of wanted to give it a refresher of sorts.
Basic idea: a new station lot at the origin station that says "Contracts and Missions". This lot could be anything from a auction hall style of building to a booth or flat screen. This location could provide missions and contracts for players to do. They can be set up to be more advanced versions of the station jobs.
Here are some examples of contracts that would be simple to do and how they may work:
Job 1: Haul job
This contract would instruct a player to take a special cargo to another station. Presumably, it would be a contract specific object, ore, or resource that has no value to the player outside of the contract. Players who select this task would be rewarded with resource "X" and be instructed to take it to Station "Y". players would then load the items onto their ship from the station inventory to take to the required destination. when arrived at the destination, players then moves the cargo into that station's inventory and locates the appropriate booth to complete the task. After which, the player is rewarded credits.
Job 2: Acquire job
This Contract would instruct players to provide a resource or item to the booth / screen to sell. unlike selling to the NPC, the contract awards more credits for turning in the item. this contract could be limited in quantity, with random items and amounts required each time it appears.
Job 3: Go To / Explore job
This Contract would instruct the player to go somewhere. easier versions of this contract can be within the safe zone. Once the player arrives at the location, they are awarded credits.
More advanced jobs:
some more advanced jobs that would require more work / coding could be:
- Build and sell ship with set specifications
- Destroy enemy base
- Repair ship
- Locate lost ship
- Locate destroyed hauler, collect items and finish delivery
- Protect ship
