here i put "administrator password" from zaphosting's dashboard AND password i set for administrator account on windows, both give same result
"Remote Desktop Connection
For security reasons, the user account has been locked because there were too many attempts to log in or change the password. Wait a while before trying again or contact your system administrator or technical support department."
Just try .\administrator as Username, as currently, your rdp client tries to use the domain "MicrosoftAccount" which is normally not correct
but just to make sure - on rdp connections i use what password?
from dashboard of the one i've set for admin acc on windows vps?
Ah, this happens, when too many failed login attempts are made. That's normal, if you leave the rdp port open to the internet
The same as on vnc
i have it ALWAYS
Then don't leave the rdp port open to the internet, since it's full of bots, that are trying to get into every system
i can only connect via rdp when i 1st go into vnc, type password and then im good to go with rdp BUT when i disconnect rdp it logs off my account and i cant get back via rdp, need to go to vnc AGAIN and log in
what should i do? im confused a bit.
Just use some vpn (not that pseudo privacy bullshit like nordvpn but a remote access vpn). There are some self-hosted and some hosted options out there
And then make rdp only accessible via that vpn, then it isn't publicly accessible and no bots can even try to login
aight
idek how n why but that issue is no longer valid...
it just went away.
i can connect to rdp normally
yeah nvm its back
havent changed anything, worked and stopped
maybe it worked because i turned on vnc and now its turned off so doesnt work?
im confused so much rn
I guess you unlock the user account with the local login (which you do via vnc) and then you have a few minutes till the bots out there locking your account again
maybe
so the only way to solve is to do it ur way with vpn?
but vpn = memory usage skyrocketing
cant i change login for administrator to sum else?
and on rdp id use that new name instead of administrator?
Another way would be disabling the locking of accounts, but that's just stupid, because you're literally asking to get hacked
If you use a good remote access vpn, then this is just wrong. My client currently only takes <100mb
I mean, that's literally nothing
would that solve my issue tho?
because no bots would use "dksakdap" for an admin acc right?
That's just naive. Bot's can try thousands of combinations...
lemme try to do it this way, ill check tomorrow morning in school if i can access my vps with no issue
if it works - its solved
if doesnt - ill do ur method
(i just DONT want to use 100% memory, its alr 95% and im sure its peaking to 100% sometimes)
Why do you use windows then? 😂
compiled program with .exe wont run on linux without wine am i right?
and since i have no rush to move to linux i stay at what i know how to use
It depends. you can try wine, but I would try mono first
Just read, that mono was integrated into wine but also microsoft seemingly created something for .net on linux themself?
idk, i dont use linux
but yeah, memory is a problem for me
ill move to linux one day
for vps
@prisma tangle would blocking rdp connections to only 1 port will solve it?
RDP generally uses only one port: 3389
How do you want to reduce the number of ports further?
If you have a static public ip from your isp, you could block all other IPs from connecting via rdp
i wanna use rdp to connect to my vps no matter where i am
so setting firewall to allow my home ip would NOT for my requirement
Then the best option stays: Use a fucking vpn.
yes, but i can change it to sum else
Please google security by obscurity...
And also google why that's a stupid concept
You will reduce the number of bots by a bit, but you won't stop all of them
ye
If I got the ip of your server, it would take me about 5-10 Seconds to find the new port
ye ik
That's why some protocols, like wireguard, only respond to a request, if there is a specific sequence at the start of the packet (you can compare it to a password)
