Is this a Ryzen system? If so, after inserting the ISO through the web interface, go onto your IMPI and access HTML5 Remote Console like you have right now.

Then restart the server via the web interface or the IMPI. During booting, right after the "white supermicro" screen disappears, you should see in the top something like "Press any key to continue....".

As the message states, press any keyboard key and that will launch you into the Windows installer. ๐Ÿ™‚

#

You have to be quite quick though, as that "press any key to continue" message is only visible for a few seconds.

#

No worries, apologies that it could be confusing. ๐Ÿ™‚

We're working on improving this so that Windows auto-boots to setup like we currently have with any Linux ISO. ๐Ÿ‘

#

Interesting, I'll make sure to let the support team know about this so that they are aware for future queries. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

#

Umm, I think you installed the non-GUI windows version during setup D:

sturdy pond
#

You didnt go gui mode ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

#

Reinstall time for sure

dire sonnet
#

hehe, unlucky ๐Ÿ˜…

#

Should be fast anyways as these are m.2 nvme drives

cerulean fiber
#

wow, you're doing headless windows server

for simplicity, i would recommend full gui windows server, but okay

#

i for one would not be comfortable configuring a windows server through powershell xD

dire sonnet
#

never tried, never will^^ ๐Ÿ˜„

Hey, I would recommend to install proxmox on your dedicated server.
It allows you to create multiple instances of windows via QEMU, which is pretty neat! :)

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

yeah.. i would do that too.

@dire sonnet Question why are them server isos EVAL variants?? To activate them you have to run convert script to go normal then activate it why not just do the normal ones or does this remark within windows TOS?

cerulean fiber
#

basically just mean "nobody entered the windows license key on this server yet"

dire sonnet
#

I think it's something to do with terms yeah, I'm not sure on the specifics but I think that is what I heard somewhere sometime.

sturdy pond
sturdy pond
#

Bc our topic starter has also to convert it to apply a windows key since hes going eval gui mode

protip, some programs can't handle remote desktop session closing, but setting up autologon and restarting fixes it: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autologon
fixes it, because then you're not making a new desktop session, you just keep re-using the same one~ (at least for the Administrator account. idk how it works for other accounts)

sturdy pond
#

Thats damm fast eyesshake

cerulean fiber
#

desktop yeah

sturdy pond
#

The desktop ones

cerulean fiber
#

IMO they should have postfixed the other one with (Headless experience)

sturdy pond
#

W11 has some options too with less bloatware nonsense

sturdy pond
#

did you enable rdp in settings?

#

then i assume no

cerulean fiber
#

DHCP does not work, u need to cofigure static ip manually

sturdy pond
#

you have to set it also

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

can u find control panel

#

edit

#

yeah looks right (not familiar with that exact windows version)

#

now check zap hosting panel

sturdy pond
#

8.8.8.8

#

or 1.1.1.1 google is full with them

#

leave them off

#

can you go windows logo + R then type "control"

cerulean fiber
#

8.8.4.4 for alt dns

sturdy pond
#

that new control panel microsoft really need to ditch

cerulean fiber
#

I remember in.. Windows 10 or 11, I could not set static IP via the new panel thing, but the good old control panel could

sturdy pond
#

try to get the classic control panel open

#

zap doesnt have ipv6

cerulean fiber
#

no, zap-hosting does not support ipv6 (except for the main website zap-hosting.com, but their VPS/dedis does not support ipv6)

sturdy pond
#

you see this right when you login?

cerulean fiber
#

same xD

sturdy pond
#

ok find the Ethernet thingy click it

#

its on the left of them all

#

then there is your adapter fill there the settings

#

local server

#

in the left menu

sturdy pond
# cerulean fiber same xD

when doing AD management its quite usefull 1 login entire ad in there also services on other servers from one to deploy

#

yes

#

yes

cerulean fiber
#

perfect! yeah that thing always works in my experience (while the windows 11 panel does NOT work, in my experience)

#

that's the old control panel version

sturdy pond
#

basicly windows hasnt set the ip somehow

#

bc windows โ˜ ๏ธ

cerulean fiber
#

doesn't matter. just set it manually in that thing

#

hmmm...

#

it should have been reachable now..

sturdy pond
#

use verify uppon exit

#

oh ofc that again

cerulean fiber
#

guess you don't want the ip public? i want to see a screenshot of your https://zap-hosting.com/en/customer/dedicated/show/???/ips/ page, and a screenshot of exactly what you put into this

#

ooo nice you did it! gratz

#

nah probably just the default firewall rule blocks ping, you need to mess with the firewall settings to allow pings

sturdy pond
#

now on the same server manager page do the remote desktop

cerulean fiber
#

and zap web panel probably use ping to check

#

no

sturdy pond
#

and after that disable this

#

this you have to enable

cerulean fiber
#

enjoy your 9950x โค๏ธ

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

set the thread title to solved

sturdy pond
#

yeah no problem ๐Ÿ™‚

#

uhh well open the default browser and try to open google so basicly yes

cerulean fiber
#

(i have no idea why he want to mess with internet explorer settings, fwiw)

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

internet explorer is the best chrome downloader

sturdy pond
#

server manager

cerulean fiber
sturdy pond
#

well you had to open it earlyer

#

windows firewall

#

zap doenst have that

cerulean fiber
#

need to do it directly inside windows firewall. there's no zap-side port settings.

#

automatic ddos protection. else they're all open

sturdy pond
#

pletx to the resque

cerulean fiber
#

what are you doing with the server btw?

sturdy pond
#

eventually you might change rdp port bc windows tend to lockout within zap for some reason

cerulean fiber
#

(RustDesk is an open-source TeamViewer alternative)

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

i kinda had to switch to rustdesk because i bot tibia mmorpg, and when connecting via rdp, it will freeze the game for a few seconds on connect; which might kill my character; rustdesk doesn't freeze tibia on login xD

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

yes

sturdy pond
#

i actually should make a server cluster doing the web app thing thats quite funny to use

cerulean fiber
#

web app thing?

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

oh, Remote Desktop web client , gotcha

sturdy pond
#

and i know its not in english sadly

cerulean fiber
#

i checked the rustdesk.com outage, and it actually seems like a cloudflare issue; cloudflare.com servers are serving invalid SSL/TLS;
but when i posted technical details, i got auto-banned by that automod thing again..

sturdy pond
cerulean fiber
#

then it sems a mod un-banned me manually

#

i was banned for 10 minutes according to automod but could speak again after 4 minutes (manual unban?)
