IMO it would be a nice addition to have families in the base game, with aging (children, adults and elderly people). When new people migrate to the town they should come either as a family or alone if they are adults. People should get married in the church and make their own little families. The houses may accommodate multiple generations (thus multiple related families) as it is accurate historically. Children should do certain jobs if they reach a certain in game age (7 YO(?)), and on the other hand, elderly people may have reduced working capabilities and inability to work at the end. Churches may have the added sub building, the cemetery which gradually fills up over time. What are your thoughts on this?

This was I believe on an early roadmap but got cut. I'm all for a family unit at some point.
At the bottom of this post it talks about things that got cut. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/690830/view/3675536923331950578
Greetings Lords & Ladies! We have some important news to share with you about Foundation's next steps. The team is pleased to unveil an updated roadmap! 📅 But first, a 2022 Retrospective 2022 was a big year for Polymorph Games, but also one of transition. First and foremost, we have worked on our biggest update so far, Foundation 1.9, that has a...
yeah this was the original plan for population management, but it got removed. This would bring the game closer to a survival city builder than the cozy vibe they are probably aiming for
this style of population growth is cool, but personally I think it belongs more in games like Banished than Foundation
also at a certain population level, depending on how good/bad your computer is, things start to slow down a lot. For my computer, I have to stop using x3 speed at around 1500-2000 population or my economy collapses, and Im getting close to 2100 now and I think I might just have to leave it at x1 speed from now on. just mentioning this because all the extra calculations for families and a life death cycle for thousands of villagers would probably add to that strain
games like Rimworld let your people get into relationships and give birth, or grow an embryo in a vat, it's really awesome, but for me after 20-30 people in my colony and a bunch of robot helpers and auto turrets, my fps starts to plummet and I have to run the game at a slower speed just like in Foundation
We need AI to create better gaming technology for us lol
Yeah i have a computer on the stronger side of things but the population can cause some troubles over 1000. This is the reason why i sometimes enjoy keeping it low and going for making my town as nice as possible. Yet i like the challenging side of this game as well. Pre full release there was an achievement to avoid trading like for the first 100 or so settlers. (They come less often then i feel, and it was much harder to obtain tools). I always found it a nice challenge to achieve it. This game surely has nice cosy graphics but this does not mean for me that it shall exclude some nice challenges. But yeah the performance is a real issue sadly.
Performance was at least addressed today

Yup i started a new town today. Curious how far can i push it this time
The game would also need some serious balance passes before implementing that type of thing because you have to deal with "death valleys" with that model
Foundation at least at this point has a lot of issues with food production balance, which is tied a lot with space availability, which is constrained by the territory system, which is constrained by money, which is constrained by population, which is constrained by food
is a nice circle
if you look at banished the game gets you insane amount of food from even modest farm plots because 1) you're supposed to stock for winter 2) you can deal easier with death valleys (this may be more of a consequence than an intention)
also storage building can contain so much more stuff than storage in foundation can. Not saying it's impossible, but that it requires some more larger changes both technical and in general game scope, and devs may not be up to that
and they don't require pop to be maintained
