#Game launches onto wrong monitor (plus other related issues)

Issue: The game launches onto my second monitor and in the process changes the resolution to 3440x1440. I can move it using Windows & shift + arrow key to get it to the right monitor. Once the game loads, I go to change graphic settings and the game goes into this weird white screen with the cursor blinking. I can disrupt this by ctrl+alt+del and that fixes the weird stutter. Curiously, when I quit the program, it reverts the 4k back to 4k again. When this happened last time, I set the game specifically to launch on my primary monitor (the Ultrawide) but it ignored the in-game setting and launched on my second monitor. I have a feeling this is partially on my end as my PC is having fits atm. I might force Steam to launch onto my primary but I wanted to see if anyone else experienced something similar. This is probably also a bug but hard to be sure.

Specs:
intel 8700K
32g ram
1080ti nvidia gpu
monitor 1: 3440x1440 (ultra wide)
monitor 2: 3840x2160 (4k)

I have this on launch and if I have to step away for along time, the PC goes into sleep mode, when I come back, the game is on the wrong monitor again and its near impossible to do anything on the PC. I have to kill the game and Steam sometimes to get control of the PC.

I think I figured out what is going on. it is partly related to sleep but I think the real culprit is due to windows display settings/ identification. Which ever monitor is labeled 1 in display settings and nvidia control panel, the game will automatically default to that monitor (see display settings image). if you look at my foundation settings, my ultrawide is #1 but since it is my second monitor, the game was defaulting to #2 and keeping the resolution the game.

What I ended up doing was switching the cables around so my "1st" monitor was also my primary and the game seemed to respect that when launching. I'll have to see if it consistently launches on the right monitor now but I think that is the culprit

I'm not sure what is happening here. Let us know if you find a solution. Right now this is a low priority issue for us but something we can dig deeper into at some point

Today and yesterday the game started on the correct display for me. Before I switched the game during loading screen with Win+cursor to the correct one

I have not had this since last update.

Heh, I found this from 2021 (partially relevant as it was dealing with the same issue but before you could change settings in game) https://steamcommunity.com/app/690830/discussions/5/4038104984933456336/

So my guess (and I tested by changing the value) is this setting:

is prioritizing whichever monitor is display one for windows. The game will switch to the correct monitor in the config file but the numbers assigned to that monitor are inaccurate (in game shows as 1 [ultrawide], config shows as 2 [Window's number for ultrawide]). It looks like it is remembering which monitor is the correct one now so the issue appears to be fixed like Tim said but time will tell.
