well, you draw without guide line so his chin is too pointy in one place

and since the pointy part almost line up with the nose and mouth, it actually turn into a pointy chin

You should focus on the shape of the back of the head first though before u add the ears. Don't focus on trying to make it look neat straight off the bat when you work with wanting to fix anatomy. Its good to sketch before you do lineart so u can understand these things better. You can focus on lineart after these things are fixed.

There's usually at least 3 stages. The 1st step is usually the plotting the shapes down roughly and getting the pose u want, the 2nd stage is the proper sketch where you start to fix the anatomy and add the details and the last stage is the lineart.

Some people even do 4 stages

Its usually also recommended that when you sketch and even lineart you use a pen with pen pressure.

I asked whether you used a mouse or a phone for this purpose. Since u use a phone and use ibis there should be pens there that has pen pressure if i remember correctly if not u can also use a brush but Lower the opacity

You can see some lines are thick mostly but some lines are also thinner. This usually gives more depth and personality.

🤔 im never a fan of thick lines, i prefer using thin lines in my drawing but thats probably because its colored, if its a black and white illustration like this, thick n thin lines combo shines more coz you wont be distracted by colors

Yeah if you want to do more detailed art thin lines are better, but if you want less complicated colouring thicker lines are better.

Some done even limeart at all. They go straight to colouring after the sketch.

People forget to do the actual sketch.

Some people can fix things as they draw the lineart but that skill is developed in the intermediate to pro stages of art. Most people either just go straight to lineart or they go from

This to lineart immediately after they've done this.

There's nothing wrong with going from this immediately to lineart but you need a lot of experience to do it right.

But when you're still a beginner and go from this and immediately to lineart it makes lineart look very difficult. People start to overthink the process, and it becomes a tedious thing.

There are at least 2/3 stages before lineart but most just do 1 when they're starting art.

The thing is that even if its just the splash art, there are other preferences and poses that you can do. People often just take references from other art of same character so they end up looking identical xD there are so many different types of references out there but people just take the easy route.

There are plenty of interesting poses where it just shows the front

People just choose the easy options by looking at what others have done and try to do something similar instesd if going out to look for something else that's more interesting.

That's why it all looks the same

I don't blame them though, it can be difficult to search for good references, and it's also quite difficult to take a real life reference and turn it into a cartoon or an anime.

Not only that but you have to think about the pose as if there was no clothes and then add the clothes on afterwards and if the reference you're using have a lot of fabric it can be hard to see the figure

Personally I think you should do another sketch on top. You can not really see what's what and I think you can't really either because the eyes are a lot higher on the face in the digital version than the traditional, well tbh it's more like the face is a lot longer and it's squares.

If you're finding lineart hard, and a chore, then your sketch isn't clear enough for you to understand what's going on.

I've been alright with drawing on phones and when I actually bought a tablet I couldn't draw for the hell out of me

I've been only using my tablet for tracing practice and I've still havent properly use my tablet

I sorta need help on lighting (again) because I wanna practice and understand it more
Someone recommended that I put reflective light on her but I have no idea how it works

then the highlight would just form a circle on the top of her head

could use stronger shade under her bang too

with that kind of light source then the shadow would down to her nose

the neck to collarbone would also need darker shade at those area would be covered by her head and hair

I dont know much about how to apply lighting but....
Since the fingers are exposed to the light source you need to apply more lighting on top of it
The sideskirts of her ?headdress? Needs ligting on the front cause its still exposed

The ulna of the wrist is not shaped correctly and the part of the wrist which are underneath the hands (flexor carpiradials I think?) Are too inflated

I believe these only apply on her right arm (the characters pov)

The ulna of the left hand is still positioned too high tho

I suggest using real life body references

It really helps

dont do bounce light when you are new

if you're having trouble calculating normal lighting, adding bounce light will make it even more complicated

but if you really want to do bounce light, finish the top down lighting first, then you add bounce light

@fallow thicket basically light bouncing happens because of the reflection of light from objects

objects with the color black do not bounce light

white can reflect any form of light while black does the opposite

which is why I dont wear black clothes on a hot day
