what deedoode said, the face is asymmetrical (mostly the eyes, try using a ruler)

The jawline (where the face starts sloping in to the chin) should line up with the middle of the mouth, not with the nose

basically 95% of critiques ye, they just like to point out stuff that can be improved but ultimately...cant make a better version of stuff theyre critiquing at which honestly pisses me the hell off but i can understand why. The critiques dont need to be the same skill lvl as the person who made the stuff they're critiquing because at the end of the day, humans see the same thing with the same eyes but has a different view of it subjectively.

You're looking to become and artist after all not a surgeon.

the one thing with breaking anatomy is that you need to have a solid understanding of it to do that. Yes you don't need to know it, it won't look as good with limited knowledge or none at all, but if you're goal is to go professional then in that case you do. Art is really about your goals. Its why when i give a critique its only for what someone asked never about stylization (or anatomy if they don't care about it)

well since you used line to made the pole part of the weapon, it is way more "high-resolution" than the rest of the lineart there

you can just look at the different between the lineart of the pole and the hand holding it there

Im gonna say this coz this topic is already dragged out for too long and it pisses me off but I believe that the intensity of knowledge you have to pound in your brain when it comes to anatomy depends ENTIRELY in your artstyle. You love cartoon artstyle? You can get away with wiggly tiny limbs and giant heads, etc. Anime? You're free to modify the parts you find attractive for you. Realistic? Ye go ham with your anatomy knowledge. I dont care if you disect a human or scram through pages about muscles and skeletones or whatever, its what your artstyle demand from you. So not everyone is obligated to pound every tiny detail the human anatomy has to offer but only know the foundation of what this and that do and how it looks like depending on how much their artstyle demand from them.

I was dissing University, not art school the only thing I said about art school is that it's expensive and my parents won't help me pay for it so I decided not to go do any further studies. I actually wanted to go to art school but nobody around was willing to help so went straight to work instead.

I wanted to go to FZD school of design in Singapore

But it was way out of my range

However I've seen people who self teach themselves as freelancers without studying much anatomy to such lengths but end up getting commissioned anyways by companies to do specific art. It depends on what u wanna do

If you're willing to work in the industry itself and be apart of a team within a company then you need different sets of qualities obviously and msot likely they're looking for people who have more knowledge in stuff like anatomy.

But if you just wanna do art for fun as a freelancer, it doesn't really matter if you study a lot or not because you're not working for anyone

The question is whether you want to work for someone else or work for yourself.

Personally I prefer to be a freelancer, it's a more risky path for someone who actually wanna make a living out of art but I prefer to draw something I like at my own pace than being forced to work as a machine in a games company somewhere. Sounds too stressful.

Nowadays being professional in something just means having a job. You work at McDonald's cleaning toilets? Well you're a professional cleaner! If you can make a living out of art it doesn't matter if you work for a company or not, you're still a professional.

But these are all my personal views

I should also mention most freelancers have a solid understanding of anatomy or the very basics of it. Unfortunately with freelancing its difficult to start and its basically working at a studio except with a less reliable source of income

Just because you can learn online doesn’t mean you learn the right things. There are plenty of amateur artists talking like professionals and spreading misinformation. You can have your own opinion delay but so do others. Not all art schools are great and not all are bad

Anatomy is important u need to know anatomy to draw bodies well but like i said its not something you particularly need to go into extreme details in learning to be able to achieve professional level

You don’t need doctor lvl anatomy knowledge unless you’re going to paint muscular individuals realistically with minimal references. Just seems like there have been people going back and fourth on needing any knowledge or none at all

technically there isnt really a point having an argument that drags on forever because each person will look at one side differently than other and we all like to think that we are right, so it would be harder to accept another point of view

and also your point of view differs from mine based on our own different experience

so how you view something doesn't always suit me

which is why every person can create their own style of art without having to copy someone elses if they are motivated to
