well if you're asking for brushes here this is the one i'm using

for lineart

i used to draw with feather traditionally so it took me a while to find the perfect fit. now im pretty comfy with this one

this one i use for painting either just gray scaling or coloring roughly in general

this is for sketching stuff before i do anything else

and these two are for more fine stuff like rendering. which i actually rarely use.

that's all the brushes i use. not a lot to be fair

i do think about using knife in the future tho. looks really fun and want to see how it goes

ok, so, this is a bit more about character design than art exactly, but idk who else to ask
basically, i got this little guy
now, idk what color to use for a mouth, using normal black lines makes the mouth invisible on half his face, using white has the same problem
using them together just looks kinda weird when drawing more than just a simple closed mouth

i thought of probably using a single color but not sure which to pick

for now, i would try to do that while doing the sketches

its perfectly normal to be bad at it first, you dont just slap a color first try and create a masterpiece all of a sudden, it takes several months or even a year to get better at it so dont be afraid to create bad -looking art, its just part of growing up and getting better.

i would say those weird fin on the side

being snake like, the fin would just be more thin but and slightly translucent

but if you want to keep those fins anyway, maybe give it a slightly off color on the bottom or the side so it actually visible

it kinda blend in the body sometime

you can see in those reference of you, the fin often have white out on the tip

the glow is very bright, it reaches almost pure white so maybe tone it down a bit to give attention to the other parts of the design? I’m not sure if you’re going for realistic skull/skeletal structure but the mouth opening thing on the side is stretched far and the fins are quite sharp

Well, saying you just need to know the basic is like saying, I'll learn what i have to and I'll stick to that for the rest of my career

Almost every professional and every master who drew or draws humans knew anatomy to extremes

Artists don't just limit themselves to humans obviously, but you don't need to study the whole biology of the human body to be able to be a professional artist

You see artists draw animals but did they actually went out of their way to learn the anatomy in detail of those animals too?

What about plants, tress and the environment in general? Did they went out of their way to become a Geologist just to paint some rocks?

Ans what about those who are good at drawing buildings? Did they have to take a degree in architecture to be that good at drawing buildings?

I actually did put in effort to memorize canine and feline musculature and I know quite a few who know the skeletons of many animals

Imo it’s not biology artists study, it’s anatomy, not physiology
