Trying to do realism is the main way to learn values but there are some very basic and quick exercises as a step prior

But you need a very good reference, not any of those fashion/makeup/instagram photos they are terrible reference material

alright, as a general tip so you don't wait several hours for a response if I'm sleeping, look for references that have a large selection of values. There are nice looking photos but if you can't see the various planes of the face through the combination of shadows and light then its a bad photo and you need to avoid it. Typically art model photography has proper lighting

you have the face shape but you're missing a bit of the back of the head as it looks like you have her facing away from the viewer so you would see that part although covered by hair. Also you should lengthen the arms and the torso along with them and shrink the shoulders as they are too wide for the chest

One thing I don't like when I was coloring this was that hu tao's color theme palettes are so close to each other that when you look at it like this it looks like the clothes and hair just merge coz they're almost the same color which I'm sure I can fix through lighting but just the choice of colors mihoyo :/ cmon

We know how to draw man it's just that female chars are more indemand in the market + male anatomy is just too boring coz there's not much going on with them, only the face and their figure and they don't rly get better whatever clothes you put them on unlike female chars where almost everything that can be customized in their parts and clothes will make them look better.

depends on what you're going for but its more or less the same as traditional

well the very basics for digital painting then is to block in base colours from there it will be different depending on the style. If you're going for pure cellshading then you just shade anything that would have shadows cast on it without blending and add a few highlight colours to where light would hit directly. You can make it fancier by also using an air brush to add gradients. If you want to render more realistically is where it gets complicated you need a good understanding of forms and anatomy to avoid getting pillow shading. Try out all brushes your program has available and learn how to use them. You don't need fancy brushes you can just use defaults

You can paint something so many times over and over again, but if you don't understand how lighting or shadowing work or what colour theory is it'll make it a lot harder.
