i would recommend to study from photos of people in intense / strong lighting to better understand how shadows are cast, etc.

it creates confusion since the spotlight covers the entire leg, it would only make sense to have that if the light cutoff is there

if you have an angle in mind do tell, maybe can help find reference for it. if not then can help to try estimate it

Sketchup is paid but there's a free website version

And its more than enough to create backgrounds

Textures are limited but artists usually just put a lineart filter on the model and color manually

Do need a pretty decent device to model larger objects but you can always scale it down and just set up camera angles

The web is also more than capable of doing shit like plan your minecraft base

Lighting in sketchup isn't advanced it's just a basic simulation

Doki doki is a reseller but generally i had good experiences, pardo wig was really soft and easy to style

Take vita for example, u can give pants and they'll look fabulous
Or like arrlechino from genshin, she is very beautiful and looks rather sharp, and her outfit isn't revealing at all so yes it is possible, just needs right inspiration

Hoyoverse has sort of marketing plans, more or less most of the characters have part of their clothes revealing to entice players into pulling for them and might lead to them spending money on said charactes, due to their design is eye catching or fits their "desires"

It is possible to create an oc, with that specific requirement u mentioned, saw quite a few interesting designs, u can get inspired by previous characters whether being released or yet to be released

Clothes usually show character's personality, makes them shine as who they are, darker outfits for "edgy/villain", lighter outfits for "bubbly, dreamy, hero"

Knowing their personality will lead u accordingly on to how they style their hair, what is their hobby, what are their positive and negative traits and how they affect them, what clothing style do they enjoy the most and so on, and with that in mind u can create your character

On top of that face expressions are very important, how their eyes look like, rounder for more innocence, sharper for being less innocent, their smile, the way their eye brows twitch when they got mad, are they a yandere? A tsundere? Or..a woman that is going to destroy a planet in matter of seconds?

Yes I did gave a lot of advise and details, and u might just want to do it as a hobby not take it quite literally

You can also apply shadow in a way that gives the impression of scale detail without actually having to draw the scales

You can draw these all over his jacket or do a gradation effect on certain areas for uniformity and aesthetics

2nd one is a bit harder to pull off but look at her wings

in general with a coat texture, not limited to scales, but if you aren't happy with the look the fold is probably where your issue is

Yeah I did that later on and then I added bronya in the middle with some layer effects on the entire thing when trying to render the clouds darker and the horizon was a bit dark but the center of it was pretty light, I posted it in #honkai-fan-art if you wanna go see what it looks like after I finished

imo the stretch of colors seem too uniform and not random enough, like for the arms and the side they'reall at like set intervals and the length of them are all pretty similar

Also correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think i've ever seen hair have the stretched out colors too since they're usually flying behind the character, and on that note

the left (my left character's right) ponytail should be like the other one flying behind right? having it hang down is really unnatural

It's not about randomness

It depends on which part is moving on which speed

Like for example a character performing a hook punch

The most stretched out part that will move the fastest would be the fist itself so its gonna have a more exagerrated smear

Meanwhile the bicep or the shoulder area is gonna have little to no smear cuz they're gonna be moving the slowest

Its like a gradation effect or basically just intensity

From the end of the arm which is the first which will smear a lot
To the wrist which will still have a very noticeable smear
To the the biceps which will have less smears
To the shoulder with little to no smears

Smearing effects not only indicates movement but also how fast its going

Like this for example

In single piece illustrations tho there's almost no need to even include these

Here are different ways you can represent movement

Its all about composition

In combination of this

Mangas achieve the sense of exaheor intense movement by using speed lines

A great example of this is this panel of Kakashi swinging his arm

The speed lines follow the flow of which is arm is swinging

You can also notice the intensity effect I was talking about earlier where there's more exagerrated smear/movement lines at the end of the arm and less as it goes towards the shoulders

there are mangas where the lines are definitely more random than not

with some of the longest blur lines being on the top or the bottom of the section

And they're addingspeed lines to the entire side of the arm, the spacing in between is too uniform and its def unnatural imo

Idk if you've heard about the Galton Board but it's basically like that

This effect basically shows that the balls takes different paths but their moment creates a pattern

Same goes to speed lines

It looks random but when you look at the whole picture you see the pattern forming

Each lines got different lengths but in the overall picture you see the intensity of the movement on which part

You don't want it to be pretty random either cuz then it'll just look messy

This for example

There's really none of that uniformity every line has its own intensity

But you look at the whole picture its basically a sort of gradation effect

Another one which the lines are basically everywhere

But it emphasizes the explosion

There's directional speed lines which indicates the direction of the movement

Then theres radial lines which supports the focal point

yeah I know it kinda fits the shape of a bell curve, but it's not something you have to follow to the dot

You can still have fun with the variety of lengths

Its more like a guideline, less like a mold, not really set in stone

Speed lines is about the impression of movement

The pattern you decide to create gives the indication of the direction, intensity, and flow of the movement in a still piece

Yes you don't have to follow these as there's barely any rules about this but just keep it in mind that following an already existing technique will help you achieve the results you want

And again speed lines are the only technique you can use to indicate movement

Streak specially is awfully simple

Also another one of the issue the guy practicing movement drawing is answered jn this image

Drawing the hair/clothing to basically sway/drag behind the character gives a really good impression of movement

It kinda just, you use a white-greyish as base color, and use different values of grey to define shadows and contrast

Thats how I understand from the technique itself

if not, then I recommend doing so, to simplify the pose and have an easier time laying out the proportions
