if you can't find a great reference, use your own hand. depending on the pose of your hand you can use the back camera on your phone and do .5 for heightened perspective

if its your own hand you should be able to get away wiith tracing it. i use half circles to show the direction of where the fingers are going(photo for reference)

well from here. you can see that shorts are bit tight. so there are folds on left and right there where it bends into between legs. and fold on top there because it follows natural curvature of crotch there. and fold on bottom because fabric curves up down there

and in here. you can see fabric is looser here. so they feel more "airy." you can see that mainly they stem from fold up near shoulder/armpit because of the twist in fabric near there

I usually draw simplified versions of the outfits, but when I do the more complicated ones I separate the details by like ‘big’ ‘medium’ and ‘microscopic’

That depends, it's also something I struggle with and still haven't figured out myself yet. Some parts I keep separate, some on one layer. Having large canvas definitely helps with putting on smaller details. You can always omit some or simplify them. A lot of various details are unlikely to be visible (unless you zoom in) or even noticed by viewer

It pretty much comes down to specific case and personal preference. I've asked similar questions on different art related communities and I'm trying to gather other people's workflows to see what fits me. It's always a trade off going one or the other direction

Photobashing, 3D models, or use irl textures from images

There's a lot of artists who uses 3d models for either complex objects like weapons or the background itself

And then they match the vibe and the style of the character to the background

Photobashing is basically taking whatever images you can find and then make it work with the piece you're making, alter it, change the values, Intensity, tones, etc. of the colors or morph it to represent something

Usually the end result of photobashing is a pretty hyper realistic environment

There's little to no actual painting here and more on just your photshoping skills

Usually it's concept artists who does this

For games and shit

The last method which is just using irl textures

You just paint as is then slap some textures on certain parts you want to have textures on

like say the ribbon on Grea's dress, you can just draw her dress normal first then draw the other part after in different layer

then you don't have to ball your eyes out to try get everything fit in one go

I was partly studying from ASK

and some other artist like jacknife

I often "try" my best to simplify details or omit them, I know it's hard

I can suggest using large brush or working with canvas that is zoomed out wayyyy to much and don't dare to zoom in to add any detail. It helps with simplifying parts

You'll need to do studies of people either from life or from photos to be able to do semi realism correctly. Semi realism still takes into consideration the 3 dimensionality of an object more so than other simpler styles. Wlop's style has slightly simpler rendering because he has a painterly style (painterly is actually very hard to do so i recommend learning proper rendering first) but the fundamentals are still there

Yep study from life is the way to go, if you want similar style, then also do artist studies to learn how they simplify forms, but that is on top of life studies

The line scratching/hatching seems more something they did manually

For the hair it looks like they used a ruler tool and just draw on 1 direction and added more lines the where they want more of the colors should go

I had a friend make a webcomic. He had to learn a bit about color theory. Yours is better than his started. He used a lot of primary colors. I think the second character can be what they call a "winter," or maybe some cool, pastel kind of colors. You are using a lot of browns and earth tones. I do like the first character's eyes. They are warm, friendly looking. This next part I'm suggesting I don't entirely understand. Characters that are grouped together often have complementary color schemes, whereas couples have distinct color palettes. That's just an idea. It's really more complicated than I can explain even at length. It looks better than a lot of comics out there. My best advice is to keep making comics. The more you make, the more you learn, and the better you get.

It is good the shading is good but the eyes are too far away from each other and if you're character is kind off looking to the side this could also be your guide (the second photo) so put them in different colors so it's much more easier for you to understand ( the blue part it is where the hair part is also for the eyebrows it is not close to your hairline there's always a gap between your eyebrows and hairline) the purple part it is where the ear but if you don't wanna draw the ear just hide it with hair or you can look for tutorials. Although I'm not that expert on art so basically I advise you to watch some tutorials too! And more practice 😄 hope this helps!

There are plenty of ways to advertise your commissions like reddit, discord, deviantart, etc. When setting a price you should consider the time it takes you to finish a piece, what minimum wage is in your area, and your skill level. Look for more than 1 reference where the arms bends.

Ur gonna struggle if the only reference you have is a standard pose when you don't really understand how thr anatomy of the thing ur drawing works.

Its good to make sure every reference you have is different. When I start a piece my reference sometimes goes within the double digits. XD

And I use every single one of them in some way to help me. It makes your life a lot easier.
