The middle finger is the same size as the pinky when it should be the biggest, index and ring fingers should be the same size unlike what you have drawn, pinky and thumb should be the same length, knuckles will also vary in size depending on the fingers so middle biggest and pinky smallest

Grey could be thrown in for some variation or just some lighter shades of red so it's not completely just dark colors. For example on certain parts maybe a lighter red could be used as highlights or to give certain details more pop so they're more noticeable

Color correctly so it could just be a wild suggestion

Although I do see the use of yellow so maybe some parts of the outfit could be gold ish to be the highlights

Ooo and taking note of what your oc would do can be helpful to decide a pallette
Especially if they deal elemental dmg
Taking reference of that can make it more obvious that they deal a certain element if you incorporate certain details like that into the design

I'm sorry for the long explanation of stuff. I hope I could have helped you at least a bit with the design. Outfits are hard when deciding on things like color lol

because of those random curve, a lot of point really off, like the elbow has no elbow, that random bump on her right arm, while her leg seem to be swollen

and try to reduce the line, you seem to draw some part over and over but they are not really connect so it became rather messy

it require practice but you can get a clean lineart like this

Ah Breaking down a posture as in Exposing the structure/frame

From personal experience this sorta works but you also need to know the basic idea of anatomy or the bone structures and proportions or you're gonna end up with a weird looking figure

it is more on the practice to balance out the body

a lot of our artists just kinda eyeball the reference

that why the body and scale can look really off

But breaking down a complicated posture still needs you to know the basic in which, Basic Anatomy, Bone Structure, and proportions aren't that hard to learn

they all come with practice either way

Anatomy takes a bit of practice

Bone structures honestly just draw an egg shape for the rib and then a sort of box/triangle for the hips and then draw sticks for the limbs

Proportions you honestly just need to know that the Elbow is always proportional to the lower rib, wrist ends at the lower hip and its roughly the same length as the bicep area. Thighs and calves also have roughly the same length

but well, there are more than one way to learn so pick up whatever advice seem easy for you to understand and follow it through

I feel like I’ve been drawing randomly ever since new year, I stopped paying attention to elbows, knees and even stopped drawing egg for ribs and triangle or cone like shape for hips

I heard artists don’t like tangents, should I try to avoid that when drawing small clothing details?

Majority of the clothe details are gonna be put in the coloring process to make it look cleaner

It looks better that way

Experienced artists usually just ink/put lineart on the outer parts of the clothes

And Tangents does look weird but it usually isn't a problem

The main effect of having Tangent lines is it makes the drawing look flat

Notice how they don't connect the furniture lines to the hand

It gives a sense of depth and contrast between important elements and non important elements in the piece

Mangas also have plenty of examples of these

well manga has the benefit of using tone for effect than just depend on background most the time

The problem of manga and its limited background art are 1. Producing colored books costs a lot, 2. Its hard to differentiate in the absence of colors, 3. Hard to contrast shadows

That's why they add a sort of glow/emptiness around the character

The scarf would be hard to see without the glow-ish thinf around the character cuz its nearly the same color as tye background

Same applies to tangent lines, if there's too much of that the main focal point of the price would look embedded into the background

well the arms seem to be bigger than any part of her body

one of the hand also bigger than the other too

I mean moreso with the clothing n stuff, the form itself was pretty rushed so it's far from perfect

it looks more like someone just wearing wrist warmer as a gag rather than someone they wear from the start

its an interesting design, i would recommend cleaning it up and defining it more as certain parts are very vague as to what shape and materials they are

Bust line/bust area could use a bit more unique design

The dress itself looks neat but personally some patterns/designs on the dress would help it look better

Sleeves looks odd I suggest you find references online for the type of sleeve that satisfies you like this picture bellow

The mask is interesting but personally not a fan of how it looks as of now. I have no idea what to make of it unless I play with the design myself

Finally I suggest adding some accessories, not just necklace or bracelets, but also metal pieces that looks like it's embedded on the clothes like Emblems, buttons, etc.

Also regarding the mask I suggest you like, make it into a sort of eye patch covering 1 eye like the image below but like scaled up a bit

Design from the other day, does this look much better? I changed the mask and added in more detail to her dress. I've left the sleeves as is because I personally like them I just haven't drawn them well in either sketch

How's this for a template for rough drafting a character's costume?

you usually have one of the arm spread out so you can see the underside of the outfit too

Something like this would be better for character concept but also need to draw them in different angles, the one above is a quicker way to understand the outfit

However having this plain posture for the front and back designs also help for a simpler understanding of the outfit

That also depends on how much of the outfit's mechanism you want to convey to the audience. You may need to draw the character without certain parts of the outfit and draw the mechanism part separately aswell for that case

And if you’re going to give anatomy critiques (tho unsolicited and rude) you should know anatomy beforehand

All I see is an unnecessary sketch of a whole skeleton over top, the final correction's anatomy is still wrong

The whole point of drawing basic skeletal structure in art is setting proportions, there's no need to draw every bone that makes up the rib cage, or the exact form of the pelvis. Basic lines and shapes works more efficiently than trying to draw the whole skeleton

If they were trying to critique anatomy, some basic/main muscle drawing would be more helpful

As for the posture, emphasizing the Line of action, form/shape of the posture, and the feel or correcting the overall the composition of the posture would be more helpful

Both muscle and posture corrections weren't made properly here, they just drew a skeleton with the same posture and drew flesh around it

The original one has better composition

Well, for females really isn’t THAT different. Curvier, a little smaller here and there

The thing that differentiates them in the end are the details in the face

You will have a male having jaw sharpness value at 100 but a female is like half of that, to give you an example that I could even explain to a badger
