In order to reduce the amount of channels, we really do need it. We had in mind to either make one ourselves or add one already coded which is the main reason why it's taking a bit more time.

If we were to add that, we'd probably code in a vote kick with it on top of it. That's the main thing about it

I am in another server that my friend built a vc bot for, it allows you to set the limit on the amount of people who join a vc that you make and the name. They use one text channel and a command that's like ".create <channel name> <channel limit>" (although it would be slash commands now). The channel could then look like "CHILL NA ARAMS (5/5)" or "CUSTOMS (10/10)" They also have a few text channels that are just always there for those who would rather not figure out how to use the command.

If you did this, then you would have no need for the duos/trios/quads because people could set their own limits. And those who play aram wont have people joining who dont want to play aram But it would probably look messy and be a lot harder to moderate. IDK if there are any vc bots that can put multiple "Join here to make a vc" channels.

If there was I personally would want to put categories for "Ranked", "Blind/Draft", and "Other Game Modes" but that would be my preference ofc.

This event was a lot of fun to participate in, here are my thoughts on a few things that could be changed the next time around:

More codes
5 each is already plenty but I think more would work considering that this event will run for a few days

Periodically placed
Instead of putting them all at once, I think putting them in waves would be better, makes the event lasts longer and helps those who are in bad timezones ( the waves could be in different times of the day to be fair to everybody)

Fake codes
To stop cheaters, increasing the amount of fake codes might help, would make it easier to track the submissions as well

More misc puzzles
Looking for codes through channel descriptions and such can be a little tedious, the misc placements like the cipher in the Valorant server was dope, creative spots like that would definitely be more entertaining

Teams
Since people are already teaming up for this event, recommending people to do so might make the event more entertaining

Clear details on how the event will roll out before the event starts
A lot of people were confused by how the codes work, having a clear explanation beforehand might be useful

Not a staff member but i genuinely think it will lead to more harm than good. People will probably just start arguing with the ranters eventually just creating more unnecessary drama and a negative atmosphere.

Rather have the minor group of people that don't use the channels for their proper use moderated I'd say.

I have come across a bunch of rant channels in a couple of servers and it rarely came anything positive out of it. If anything it was worst as people were "encouraged" to rant to some extent. They would then move to other channels when they realized people were trolling them in the designated one.

The main problem with this is that people ask for money. Free coaching is all right but demand is 10x higher than the people who provide it.

The problem with the ones asking for money is that we can't go around making sure everyone is doing it for free. This would require entire coach team, which again, considering how time consuming it is to coach people (VOD or live review) + making team, isn't quite worth it for just free.

Some people ask for it sometimes for free and sometimes people do it in #⬫┆gameplay-questions but overall, it's not an easy service to provide.

My take on why it's not implemented already is that that's considerable extra work, and from what I've seen the staff is already experiencing a considerable shortage.

Right now lore news are already being posted en #⬫┆game-news which essentially doesn't impact it's readability. The channel is not super active either, so it's also easy to notice whenever there is something new there, on top of most lore additions/updates being accompanied by a patch/some other type of news. These already have a ping.

Lore channel has seen massive increases in the people who use it, both because of ARCANE and the various events that happen, but also cuz of the expansion with other products: RK, LoR, Forge Games. Is there a lul atm cuz there havent been that many products released recently? Yes. Doesnt change a large number of people use said channel. It doesn’t change that it’s a simple thing to implement and takes little management. Is it comparatively less than skin and lol rn? Certainly I didn’t dispute that, however most people just flat out dont know the lore gets updates throughout the year, simply showing that notification option is advertisement of its own and would generate a greater influx. Beyond that, you talk as if it’s something hard to maintain. The “effort” is minimal to do any of the announcement/notifications for the most part is literally copy pasting and hitting enter when they see official updates. The channel is not one where discussions occur, much less one where casual members can talk, thus it needs no moderation.

I serve as one of the lore mods in necrit’s server and am also one of the active members of the Lore of Runeterra server. Ik the effort that goes into announcement/notifications generally. The same process occurs.

A DM can be opened at the touch of a button, it’s not something that would have to happen on the dot, just when said mod has the time to open it. It’s not something that happens every day or even every week, nor something that requires a conversation.

In any case, shyreal already implied it’s easy to do when they made the statement of checking “lol updates”.

Upon correcting them and asking for it to be added it became a case of “maybe it’ll be bloated”, i showed that the update notifications are small, while also saying “You can also just make a new channel, as you did with skins; it both prevents bloating and gives a clear concise space for the updates” (paraphrasing). It is an easy situation. The only thing that would require much of any deliberation is “which mods would be willing to receive a dm from me every now and then to notify of an update?” Which is more a matter of courtesy, cuz I can also ping any mod in the actual channel itself. :/

If it were a matter of technical difficulty, I could understand. It is not. It is a small thing that does nothing but benefit a channel that is already existing within the server that many use. It’s simply a matter of “will once in a while someone be willing to take out 5 seconds of mod time to copy paste something”.

The icons and color role that many have in this server came as a result of Zodiac relentlessly pushing for it, it took a long time to even do not because “it’s difficult” but a constant surge of “who will want to use it?” And then “complications” of being an official server connected to riot. The server no longer has official relations to riot. That’s part of why I push so strongly for it to be done (neverminding i’d already been told by the higherups that it’s something theyd be cool implementing and would just be a matter of convincing the mods. The excuse became “it’s mostly inactive” that’s certainly not the case now what with how the lore is expanded as a product of its own.

“Moderation” is difficult mainly in the case of overseeing active channels: Making sure people are behaving civilly, cooling down any fights/disputes, cleaning spam and harmful messages, making sure conversations are happening in the requisite channels, mediating discourse etc. A news notification requires none of that. So we areive at what I’d said from the beginning: Implementing another notification is not something that requires major attention and effort.

On one hand i do understand why you might not be interested in putting more work upon yourselves, but i can also understand Mili's and Aether's frustration when they've repeatedly suggested the same thing over plenty of time without anyone bothering to respond. That's why i started talking about my take on the whole thing which is what the conversation here is all about.

To sum it up, the suggestion is to have a lore-updates role, such as the existing ones for patches, skins, etc. and have it go in the #⬫┆game-news channel. The main benefit for the server as a whole to enable this would be to increase the activity mainly in the #⬫┆lore-discussion channel, which is very silent lately. Currently, posting just the cinematics isn't good enough to properly promote lore discussion in the server.

The main reasons that have come up through the conversation to why it won't happen are these:

• Staff shortage - should be solved with Aether and/or Mili are allowed to do the volunteer work they've talked about, which is just staying up to date with the lore updates and communicating it to a staff member which will proceed to post it in #⬫┆game-news. This heavily reduces the time consumption adding this would take. What could be argued against this is that maybe you won't feel comfortable of putting the channel's quality in the hands of more "random" people in the server.

• You're trying to keep the amount of server channels reduced - overall should be alright to just post it in #⬫┆game-news, looked like there was agreement here about not needing a separate channel.

• Lore discussion channel is pretty silent, which maybe points at the interest for it not being as high - implementing this would also help the health and activity of the dedicated channels.

I just wanna add this- We did have this at one point! But Discord servers have a role limit, in terms of if we have too many roles it could cause bugs in the server and make things crash sometimes. So since Riot is kinda never done making champions, the role list would just keep growing and make things break on the backend

It is possible to link voice channels as you would any text channel, however it does take a small extra step. First you have to enable developer mode in Discord (see advanced settings). Then you can right click any channel or VC and select "copy ID". This will copy that channels ID, which will look something like "703345868849283212". Then you can write <#ID>, but replace "ID" with the ID you just copied. If it works it should automatically transform into a clickable link to the VC. Like: #703345868849283212

iirc, it was explained that unless this server specifically uses a discord bot coded & programmed for this server’s use only, the public bot will get overloaded & crash due to the large population of this server

you can recommend that they code/program/create something for it, i’m sure there are people who could, but it’d be a lengthy project.

i understand low spec pcs, apps like mobalytics/u.gg/blitz won’t work on low ram pcs. so what you can do as an alternative is just use ur phone/tablet. if that’s not an option, pre-record ur runes & use ur own knowledge abt the game to administer the proper runes on a game by game basis. you won’t learn if u have to constantly depend on some ai

Making a role for the players looking for games and be able to ping the role in any lfg channel , that would make easier finding ppl for a game , also the role to be for everyone by reacting. So whoever wants to play will be pinged.

The role for lfg is the region role. You can very easily find people by using the lfg channels, no need for a pingable role imo since people are always looking. The role would be abused and pinged constantly so there’s no specific pingable role at this time

Also, a pingable role doesn’t guarantee that people will play with you also

Always having to take and remove yourself a role sounds like a huge pain and not worth the investment when someone may be pinging at 3-4 am.

This is another idea that we've tried in the past. It's certainly helpful for people to throw our their feelings and walk away -- though unfortunately, this started to have the opposite effect. The other ones are mainly there for the general interest and most people asking for such. Skin news didn't really get asked a ton but with a lot of people going in every chat asking "when skin out" it pretty much goes with it.

I don't ever see anyone asking about lore or anything related to it which doesn't seem to grab a lot of interest. The time between the releases is very long and I honestly don't feel like it's worth it's own role and posts for this as it ties into something that we'd post once every month+.

You didn’t respond or refute this. It often pops up within the lore channel, not to mention if you actually show that opportunity people will know it exists. At the least there is already a dedicated channel to this riot product of which should warrant the same respect in regards to updates.

I haven't seen a ton of interest into it. Just as much as we did for WildRift getting a ton of appeal for a channel, we're about to remove them.

It doesn't get to "game news" itself as it's unrelated to the game but moreso towards the lore.

the main reason why lfg is 2mins or 3mins is mainly because people start argument there after bad games happened or they had an argument rather than reporting to our @karmic kite

because of that we simply lock it to once every 2 mins

which is fair because we don't see a reason to send a message more than once every 2mins really

i believe this wasn't an issue until a few months ago, maybe it's some new moderating bot doing it (automod?)
