Launch it- OPEN LOGBOOK AS FAST AS POSSIBLE- go into Multiplayer- then host a private game
You can only play the default characters and can't activate any new loadoits, difficulties, artifacts, or dlcs but you can see the new items and whatnot this way

I got it to work by selecting logbook before it turned black, then you’re able to open a multiplayer lobby although you’re only able to play as the last survivor you selected. And the new item thing you get from the shrine you’re unable to interact with for some reason.
