There's a mod that shows how you died in the chat, but it only provides a little bit more information than the death screen would provide

ofc, if you only use a few mods try UnmoddedVersion too, it allows you to have a few mods (ShareSuite I highly recommend with this) and allows your friends to play vanilla

TL;DR - It's really really easy to install and update your mods using r2modman, with Steam Workshop (and this is a personal opinion but I consider it valid) it's hard to get to, the UI is clunky, you can't easily see what's installed or share it with friends, I can go on

And I totally agree with Dracaratos, Steam's Workshop is kinda garby to use in practice. Sharing "modpacks", config access, etc. all are rough. Not to mention everything loads so SLOW on it like holy crap, SO SLOW
Also, I feel like the absence of the workshop has helped the community develop and ngl, the community is a huge reason why modding is possible imo, everyone feels super close and helpful

Can't speak for character creation but I'm responsible for the Supply Drop item pack so I can at least weigh in on that front
It's very much so dependent on how experimental you want to get
Items that are simple in design, a buff on kill, etc. are pretty easy
The code is fairly simple, TILER makes things even easier, etc
But if you want to implement more complex ideas, then the complexity of the code will shoot up in turn. Making item models perform special effects on a trigger (still haven't figured this out yet, hopefully Komrade and Bord will save my ass here lol), adding special projectile systems, etc
My recommendation is start small with items. Each new item, try to add one new mechanic/idea. Don't just dive in with a "totally sick idea for a magic orb that changes it's design and particles based on 20 different factors and will affect your characters skills, HP, and cause them to gain secret new animations and powers" lol

I played sniper for the first time today and dang its actually really fun
never expected I would like it
by the way, how does attack speed interact with sniper and the reload mechanic? does it actually make the bar move faster? cos that seems like it would harm more than hurt because it changes your rhythm
yes
yes it makes the bar go faster but for stuff like warbanner/berzerkers/opus etc. it increases in speed over a short period of time instead of immediately screwing up your rhythm
~2 seconds. Also, there is a limit to how fast it will move. The various other parts of the timing, like the delay between reload finish and being able to fire, and the delay between firing and reload start, along with the time required for the shot itself, all scale as normal with attack speed.
Roughly speaking, if you are good with timing and have a lot of attack speed you can usually get around 4-8 shots out in a second.
@gray mulch do you plan on adding configs for the stats of your character mods?
no, rein doesnt like configs
he only does config for things, mostly client-sided, that only affect the individual user experience
so UI, vfx or sfx, etc
part of it is because configs cant necessarily be networked, which can cause issues with unsynced configs, and rein doesnt want to deal with that
but also because rein doesnt believe in balancing by config, and excuse me for paraphrasing but, because it gets in the way of feedback processes and is a lazy way to facade or skip balancing processes in design
i effectively follow the same approach to him so i was mostly spouting my own opinion, although im much less strict about it

Muscle memory is a powerful thing. Every run starts at base ofc, and the speed increases gradually as you get items. That makes it much easier than it sounds.
And even if you have a hard time with it, luckily charge speed of M2 also scales, which lets it be useful regardless.

Hello, I'm new here but I have a question pertaining to the Enforcer Mod as I am not seeing the character in my roster. I downloaded the mod and I'm pretty sure I put all of the files where they were instructed to go but when I boot the game and check the roster it's the same, no new blocks or survivors.
What would I need to do to correct this?
you need to unlock enforcer before you can use him

I'm sure, I have every survivor unlocked and there is no other to be unlocked. No black outline next to Captain, either.

r2modman is real nice, maybe starting over would help. Make sure you delete all the stuff you added to the ror2 folder first though

Too late on trying Sniper. Feels so off-putting with an active reload, ruins the flow of this game and the skills are kinda underwhelming.

like I've said before the backflip is a little wonky but theres a rework planned for it but everything else is super unique and smooth imo

@muted iron bandit and enforcer are good character mods, admiral has some good captain changes, qualityoflifechanges has some good balance tweaks and qol stuff (might want to config off the captain changes if you get admiral), itemexchangenotifier and scannerplusone are some nice qol mods, aetherium and supplydrop and tinkers satchel add new items and stuff
idk there's a shit ton I would just download riskofdeluge its a pretty decent pack imo

why do boss items seem to drop so much in comparison to green items
the ratio seems way different
like, normally I get knurl once every few golem fights
with multitudes on I get like 8 knurls after a single mountain shrine
every green item dropped has a 15% chance to be a boss item
after one green item rolls into a boos item, all subsequent green items will also be boss items
so more items basically = more boss items
ouch
but that doesn't explain why all of the items are boss
like, I did get 2 out of 4 once

Currently using mods to disable an item. Itembanlist is the mod along with another mod to make the game think I'm on an un-modded version. People who join my lobby see some wierd "modifiers" thing. How do I get rid of that? Other than banning an item, I just want vanilla.

Anyone here play with the Enforcer mod and know what it means by "become one with the bungus" and "Make a friend on the moon"
So far iv managed to collect over 100 funguses in this run and apparently that isnt it
And i tried obtaining a Dios Best Friend from a cleaning pool on the moon, that was my only guess
from what I've hard you have to stay still with fungus for a really long time
during the escape sequence after killing mithrix, you can go around the escape ship and make it back to the entrance teleporter
your moon friend will be there

not sure. Better UI maybe? usually you can get it just by swing grappling into the sky and punching down right before hitting the ground for max gravity speed

Hey i have a problem with my mod pack. In multiplayer every non-host player lacks some abilities, for exaple: Engi cant use his m1 or m2 or shield, just turrets, Acrid can't spit with m2 or R and when using jump it glitches and is being used infinitely many times until the player that used it crashes. @high viper r2modman profiles are literally just collections of mods. Switch a profile and you'll be able to use a completely different set of mods. They're primarily designed so you can have like one profile per group of friends, with the code export functionality so you can all get the exact same setup with only one person having to do the "hard" part
Most people only ever need one, and that's fine
Instead of having a profile with a ton of disabled mods it's easier to just have multiple profiles
I get the profiles, just never understood how to export them

then send it to someone they can import it from the profile selection screen

I haven’t seen anything for manual aim, I think it has something to do with the actual projectile behavior. There are ones that make her more accurate or have more range though.

Flesh Totem: Lunar equipment. Drops a spine pillar upon use, lifestealing from all entities within a 15m radius, including the user and allies. Provides a bonus to damage dealt and reduces incoming damage based on the amount of life siphoned, with the users and allies lifeforce being worth double what an enemies is. Enemies killed by the Flesh Totem also provide double the bonus
Lifeform Analyzer: Equipment item. Use on a targeted enemy to scan them. Use again to create a ghost replica of the scanned target. Ghosts last until killed or until the stage is completed. Using the item once more banishes the current ghost. The cooldown of the use item will not go down so long as a ghost is active, meaning you have to banish the previous ghost before the equipment item even starts charging again. Scan time varies depending on the health of the target, with the targets armor further reducing it. Max 5sec scan time on enemies like Elders. Bosses cannot be replicated, but scanning bosses increases damage dealt to them by 35%. Scanned boss must be destroyed before the analyzer can be used again
Pocket Dimensional Rift: Lunar item. 10% chance on hit to absorb the projectile that hit you, and take only half damage. A seperate 10% (+2.5% per stack) chance to fire that projectile at the next enemy to attack you, for 250% base damage. Each stack also increases the number of projectiles that can be stored. Only one projectile is shot out per hit taken regardless of the number of projectiles stored
Dawnbreaker. Red item. Grants the player a special shield equal to 25% of their health. Upon taking damage, the attacker is immediately lit ablaze. If the shield is broken, explode in a 25m (+2.5m per stack) radius for 2000% (+150% per stack) damage. Dawnbreaker shield only charges when attacking enemies lit on fire

Flesh Totem seems like a weird mishmash between Effigy of Grief and Mercurial Rachis. It’s pretty complicated and it’s role is already filled by a different lunar equipment.
Lifeform Analyzer seems decent. Probably something good for an equipment drone, couldn’t see myself using this in a long run though
Pocket Dimensional Rift shouldn’t be a lunar item, it has no downside
Dawnbreaker shield only recharging while enemies are lit can be an issue, as without gasoline, you effectively have to take damage without OSP to regen the shield. The bonus you get to compensate seems fine, but taking the much damage to trigger it in the first place can be risky. The majority of my concerns simply comes from the lack of OSP the item can cause

The pdr is only a lunar item because i felt like its effects were too good to be a red item honestly. Auto retaliatory items are pretty great imo

And dont forget that enemies that attack you become lit on fire, and thusly attacking them will charge your shield again
Lunar items need to have a downside and an upside. Otherwise you get a gesture of the drowned situation.
Wanna hear a fun secret trick. The only way to really test if an item idea works is to make it.
Again, you need to be attacked first for it to trigger, which is sometimes enough to one shot a player in late game, where the player would get the majority of their legendaries
Comitting to something without knowing how the audience will make of it isnt usually a good idea xD
You can sit back and try to analyze it all you want, until you get it in game you won't know.

For flesh totem, I’d say have it attach itself to an enemy, and have that enemy have a life steal aura around them that effects everything, minus themselves
I’d also remove dawnbreaker’s recharge requirement, instead having it recharge like a standard shield, but perhaps reducing the amount of time it takes to recharge the shield or giving it armor.
Think of it like an infusion for shield, changing the colour of the shield
its not like its particularly hard to make most things, generally speaking, its just that i can make a lot more time for talking than i can for sitting down to code

My suggestion if you wanna learn modding: First, go through the basics for C#. I know its a pain, but a lot of modding is based around some fairly advanced concepts and you really need a decent base to work off of.

This isn't an item. This is a combination of a character passive and one of their skills.

and the item overall stacks pretty badly except maybe the shield
50 armor seems like a lot to me. I use a few mods, and all the items that add armor add 15 per stack at most
a green item increases it by 30(+30) per stack
and you won't be stacking too many reds either way
so good base stats with good stacking
and not overloaded with too much stuff
Random brainstorming, somewhat inspired by that:
Rex alt R, For next X seconds incoming heals are increased by X% and incoming damage is reduced by X%, when an enemy hits you they become weakened for X seconds, if they are already weakened, they bleed instead for X seconds.
I have a few concepts that work off bleeding procs, but theyre adaptations from Cursed items in my Terraria mod so without revisions they dont translate well :/
I would couple that with some other smaller tweaks to character

In Terraria theres a weapon you can get from the last boss that inflicts a debuff similar to Ichor, but much stronger. Its a powerful armor rending effect
I kinda forgot the name of the weapon though, but its a spear that explodes. I dont really play melee in Terraria :X

Im still drunk, and still drinking, but in this state is when i come up with my best ideas, my imagination runs on overdrive. And so, iv also come up with a revised Lifeform Analyzer
Lifeform Analyzer: Equipment item. If used while looking at a target, will scan target for 1-5sec (target health and armor increase scan time). Upon completing a scan, reusing the Lifeform Analyzer will summon a ghost of the scanned target that inherits 4 stacks of 3 white items, 2 stacks of 2 green items, and 1 red item from the player. Ghost lasts until killed, until stage completion, or until the item is used again to banish the current ghost. Ghosts summoned start with 200% damage, which scales as the player levels up while the ghost is active. Upon expiration/death, ghost explodes in a 25m radius, freezing enemies for 3sec and hurting non-freezable enemies for 1500% damage

Here let me give you an example of one of my Terraria items
Lifetaker: Cursed. Melee weapon. Upon use, will create a phantom image of itself in front of all entities on screen (including allies, excluding user). Phantom image swings itself at target, dealing 6,666,666 damage. If for any reason Lifetaker is unable to kill even one of the targets it affects, the user immediately dies. Upon use, inflicts Doom. Doom has a 5 minute duration and, upon expiration, instantly kills the player. Doom resets if Lifetaker is used to successfully kill at least 1 entity. Lifetaker has a 3 minute cooldown. Lifetaker cannot be used while a boss is alive. There is no cure for Doom
Basically, the item lets you wipe the screen every few minutes, and if you use it, even once, you WILL definately die, thats the only way to get around Doom, dying
Its used a lot for farming and for getting rid of enemies that are problematic, especially the ones introduced by my mod like Immortal Armors

Almost everything in my mod is classified as Cursed as well. They give large bonuses, with hefty prices. Like Lifetakers ability to take any life, at the cost of inevitably forfeiting your own

Sadly most of my cursed items probably wouldnt translate well, hence iv never pitched their ideas here :/
Btw, if you use Lifetaker while an Immortal Armor is on screen, you will die. You cannt, in any way shape or form, harm an Immortal Armor unless youre wearing the Immortality Severence, which itself is a deeply cursed item
Theres also the less extreme version, Enchanted Armors. Theyre not immortal, but they can only be damaged by magic weapons
Theyre a real bitch to actually kill though. Id explain but this isnt the place and im not in the mindset

I have a list of buffs included with the aspects just for this survivor as well
Honestly that sounds pretty neato, i like the added buffs to aspects for your character
75% might be a high threshold though, a lot of enemies wont bother avoiding machalite spikes, i could see that ending up executing a ton of enemies

I think balancing the aspects are the hardest part of this. Since they’re not really designed for players, finding the right amounts of quirks and buffs to give them while not making them overpowered or uncharacteristic is certainly a challenge
The Spectral Circlet is definately the least attuned to players if you ask me, but i like the buff you gave it
Id say it should have a pretty low proc chance though, and maybe a cap on max proc chance to avoid clover stacking making it op

Yes!
Keep in mind these buffs can only be used one at a time, and lemurian needs to fill their “Ancestral Bestowment” meter to activate the ability in the first place. The meter is charged by setting enemies on fire, once the bar is charged at least 75% you can activate it and get 75 seconds of elite buff time based on which aspect you have selected, charging it past this point is just more time (up to 100 seconds)

The idea would be to make it a flat 3% per hit, excluding damage over time ticks, the effect would stack on top of things like passive shield regen.
As for how wake of vultures works, it would simply stack on top of any existing buffs you had as if you were using multiple aspects. Let’s say you killed a fire elite as a fire elite, it wouldn’t do anything at that point. But if you killed a lighting elite as a fire elite, it would make you a fire and a lighting elite, similar to how it works in game if you kill more than one elite type

lol, you get a helluva lot more money that's for sure. because the game is based more around knowledge of the game and not as much RNG (sometimes) the enemies are overall not that bad. There's a few in particular but they'll be limited as I pass the game data along to my server to limit what, when, and how much of something can spawn
Scavenger's, Void Reavers, and Overloading Worms do not really scale
they do, but they have a much lower floor than the others lol
@tacit zephyr an interesting function would be to take a random enemy on the map and make it an elite. streamer better hope it doesn't pick a boss
Yeah everything will be configurable once it’s concrete, barring major problems of some kind it should be submitted to the extension marketplace whatever it’s called by the end of the week and then I can refine it
Another option could be to force one (or multiple, scaling with how many you have idk since late-game one item missing probably won't break you) item from your inventory to be removed and placed somewhere on the map
Yeah 100%, there’s basically infinite things I can do to allow the viewers to interact, I’m excited for it because while there are a lot of games that try to implement viewer interactions, this one really pushes that lol
For someone like WoolieGaming I’ll probably have an option for all bits spawning or something, I already have a rate control in place and possible cool downs per enemy / viewer, but I have to see how it’s used to know more
also make an uncapped option or something so it's bs like the minecraft ones

Yes, but not sure if it’s okay with Twitch, I know they can configure it while live if I allow it so probably, but bits will more than likely buy credits for viewers at a consistent rate, or a custom channel point redemption to transfer, there’s a few options I will explore rn
