I have a guide covering the general playstyle of Mercenary if it helps, but
Practice with Mercenary. The achievement is fairly skill-based, so the better you are with Merc, the easier it becomes to complete the trial.
Watch the trial closely. Try to find your own paths through. Cabbage is great for finding one path, but that's not the only way.
Topaz Brooch and barrier in general is your friend. Barrier doesn't count as getting hit, so Topaz Brooches can really save you. Shield does count as getting hit however

Merc is far from squishy, but if you don't know how to handle him then yeah that's gonna be the case

the issue is getting enough brooches without taking damage on a gamemode where without items you gotta face Stage 5+ difficulty enemies

You don't need the brooches, and even if you get one, 1 is enough
The facing enemies part is fine for the most part as long as you don't get something stupid like Worms, as they still fall under scaling, so a Stage 1 elder lem dies in like 4 seconds - because they're still subject to the scaling, equipments are also far more significant, which is why stuff like Preon or Capacitor is often used in trials

Though then again, you're on console, so handling Merc is probably more difficult

Monsters tend to be the most dangerous from the front, so the modus operandi for melee is to latch onto their backs like murderous mosquitos and never let go (until danger from some other source is imminent)

Overloading Elites' bombs are applied on-hit like certain item effects, so avoiding getting hit avoids triggering the bomb spawns

Barrier from Brooch is a flat amount applied on-kill but the passive barrier drain is scaled on your normal max health (so the less max health you have, e.g., because you're only Lv1, the slower it drains)

You can trivialize a majority of the enemies in the game with strafing alone due to their poor tracking and slower rotation than the player

Trials cycle every 3 days, with rollovers occurring at 00:00 UTC (so for instance 5PM for Pacific Daylight Time)
If you find a trial too difficult regardless of the character you attempt it with, you can always just wait for the next one

also I think I kinda slowed down a lot and quit playing as much around loader release and then artifacts was basically the full stop

Hey guys I finally got the Ethereal achievement in this weeks PT! I was trying to do a mix of speed running and not taking any damage....it took so long. Lol anyway, I was curious if anyone knew if there was a place or webpage to know what percentage I'm in. I know what my actual spot is, but I don't know out of how many people. I really want to know what percent of people I am in.

yea but it only shows my position based on my best run. So if I did that it would show me that the run time was 30:27.12 or something but it wouldnt show my spot until I hot continue. There it would only show me my 6 minute run. Plus more and more people do it as the 3 days goes on. So I would have to wait until the very end of the 72 hours to do my first really slow run. Then quickly try to optimize it.

Practice with Mercenary. The achievement is fairly skill-based, so the better you are with Merc, the easier it becomes to complete the trial.
Watch the trial closely. Try to find your own paths through. Cabbage is great for finding one path, but that's not the only way.
Topaz Brooch and barrier in general is your friend. Barrier doesn't count as getting hit, so Topaz Brooches can really save you. Shield does count as getting hit however

I think the only reason my s1 is slower though is because the alt m2 is so weak I have to use a power shot + shot to kill the boss whereas shooting it twice normally with the default shot is way quicker

the shrine right next to teleporter in the 1st stage gives you equipment
but if you can't take it fast enough, squid turret definitely helps you

Also doing no items in this one is kinda sussy since you start with enough money to immediately open the chest next to you for a white, then get money from the barrel to open the util chest which has a green. That's two free items you can just get without needing to kill anything.
