you prob hit it with the edge of the diablo blast, the diablo explosion has sweetspot falloff so anything past half the radius deals 1/4 damage

Is it just me or does the Mercenary: Ethereal unlock feel way harder than literally all the other characters unlocks? I'm trying to help a friend get it because they don't do the trials and I just spent a good 2 and half hours attempting it and still didn't get it

the gunner turrets spawn somewhat randomly on stage 2. i got a pretty lucky formation which allowed me to afk but if you get a different spawn you might have to do things a bit differently

sorry i'm a bit late this trial. forgot the trial reset today and realized it like 5 hours late

This trial was the easiest for Ethereal! Idk if the seed is world wide and console included, but you literally AFK farm (make sure to take care of elites though) on the top of siren’s head for 15 minutes until you get alien head using three turrets, then scrap some common items (I scrapped 5, make sure to not scrap topaz brochure and regenerate shields) into a scrapper near two adjacent turrets, and when you’re in distant roost, you’d have an advantage that turrets kills all wrists, then right below the spawn two platforms down, there is a topaz brochure printer, 6 of them together gives like 3rd of the health when killing a wasp and then you just go to portal while having full bar temporary shield and that should be it.

Before alien head is dropped on first stage, there will be dropped jaded elephant, so this could help in the was horde boss on distant roost when too many wisps will be shooting.

Overall, it took me 5 tries, and it was 22 minutes on the last successful round.

The strategy that is easy for stage 1 seems to ne break the crystal right by spawn, drop down to the crystal that is right below spawn on the shipping crates and take a preon accumulator from the orange item thing, then break the crystal in the way to the teleporter from there and 1 shot the imps from the teleporter event with a good shot from the preon
The rest of the teleporter event is easy enough to survive using eviscerate

Forgive me please with 3 or so brooches and 1-2 fuel cells and maybe a willowisp makes stage 2 very very safe

the only difficulty in this trial is creating a civil war with the brass contraptions without getting hit by a stray bullet or wisp. i destroyed the extra crystal after the 1st boss since i wanted level 4 to make killing the last imps on stage 2 a bit easier, but it really isn't necessary

the hermit crab strat is a bit scuffed, but it's the best that i could come up with. you could also check if there's any useful items but this strat is easy enough, it just takes a bit longer

You can grab a preon from ontop of the mountain on the first level, or you can get a primordial cube right next to TP to help bunch up / kill the imps pretty easily

The purpose of breaking the crystal at the end of stage 1 was to get enough money for the Runald's Band, hitting the mountain shrine will cause elite magma worms to spawn (which look kinda cool ngl) from the teleporter event instead of hermit crabs.

as far as i could tell there aren't many other useful items on stage 1 except for some crowbars. lv2 makes the first boss easier but if you're still having trouble, try getting lv3. pay attention to which mushrooms are shooting when and which ones are about to go heal, the only way you can interrupt the heal is by dashing through them. save dash...

the brass contraption fight is a bit tricky but i tried to kite them so i could damage them without getting hit by wisps. you have to time the lightning strike around your equipment drone's equipment usage so you get tincture, otherwise you'll get blast shower and then recycler which is useless against the dunestrider

it comes down to playstyle, which you prefer

i didn't bother coming up with an actual strategy for this trial since there's sacrifice, i just did the hit and run with iframes strategy until everything eventually died. it takes longer but there isn't really any danger of getting hit since there aren't wisps. if you want, you can check sacrifice drops to see if you can farm for something use...

you could do a bunch of different strategies since command is enabled. preon builds work to 1shot the boss but you'll either have to fight the 2nd manually or wait for cooldown. razorwire brooch builds with forgive me please and will o wisp can also do well if this strat doesn't work for you

this seed kinda sucks as the tp spawn is bad and the crystal locations are very annoying to get to

how do you move like that. I've been trying to replicate the ethereal video for 2hrs and there's literally a time gap within the first hack jump never mind the fact that if I hit the right rock/angle I get half the height in a quarter of the time. You launch with between 5 and 4 seconds left on blinding assault and when I do that I'm needing it in 1 second to finish making the gap in the air to the first crystal.

Yeah I experimented a bit before and after I started trying to replicate the vod. Different timings just make spawns a bit weird when/where wisps will appear. Worst case they spawn mid chest and then it'd be time for the next run. E.g the seconds in difference I was getting put the 2nd wisp spawn right on the 2nd chest grab. The time difference continued to spiral as I ended up with 1 attempt going to stage 2 last night after hitting the teleporter at around 3:30 vs 2:44. I'll put more attempts in later but definitely the longest I've spent on a character ability unlock. Tldr I'm bad a mercenary.
