if you want to, you can go to the bazaar and then to stage 2 and the enemy will be beebles instead of lemurians
there is a newt altar to your right as you spawn, behind the arch
otherwise, just follow cabbage's video: might have to practice the wall clip a bit but you will get the hang of it

I've noticed sometimes it feels like I get the same item drops /somewhat/ consistently, but not 100%, is there any existing research into trying to get consistent item drops from sacrifice ?

Like with the last (PC) trial while as mercenary, I felt I was getting a tri-tip dagger as my first mob drop in about 80some% of my runs, but it didn't always seem to be from the same enemy either.

in fairness when I did ethereal on console I didn't bother picking up boss items or any items unless there were absolutely no enemies in sight, the only time I got an item was a preon from rallypoint, on my winning run the only thing I had was said preon

i think i did pick up the boss item, but i didn't want to hang around to clear out enemies so i just panic pressed the a button and was rewarded with a rose buckler, which truly did help me so much

What I do is only pick up items once every enemy is dead

#

I have a pinned video for console version. It's not the easiest, but the strat for the first boss is just going AFK while your drones kill it, and for the second one you kill it in two preon shots. The hard part is only setting this two situations up

I think you can do fine without having the equip. Stage 2 gives you at least two extra missile drones to buy

they're both in the trench where you start, but it's a bit trick to save up for them with all the wisps around

2 missile drones is enough to kill a blazing stone titan without your help, so 3 should definitely be enough. You can simply hide in the pit during the fight

don't have time to grind attempts right now, stage 1 is tricky

#

but the general strat is to do stage 1, don't take blue portal, pick squid, earn some money on stage 2 and set up a squid station

#

the squid station should earn you money and another green item, also squid, there's a second squid station next to it

#

with six squids you can go shopping for an hour and come back to just a ton of items

#

I didn't get an equip after like 20 minutes, so I think I'll rack up tri-tips and AP rounds instead

I have no way to prove this strat works. You can clearly tell I didn't take 170 non-brooch damage, but I can't prove I took no HP damage without going frame-by-frame. In theory, despite the damage number, you should be able to unlock Ethereal like this.

I figured something out about merc that probably everyone except me knew

#

You don't have to time anything with merc, you can just hold down the buttons

#

What it means is you can easily attack blazing enemies without getting hurt

#

Just press dash, hold eviscerate, and then hold dash during eviscerate, and you simply can't be hurt in the process

#

This works for attacking crystals too

#

Eviscerate and hold the whirlwind button, and you'll 100% whirlwind the crystal without taking damage

in order of usefulness:

don’t get hit (really utilise your iframes. there’s some specific combos that help with this a ton)
topaz brooch. if the day has the swarm artifact on, you can basically just chain kills and get infinite barrier. taking barrier damage doesn’t count as taking damage past 100% hp, similar to the huntress challenge
tougher times can straight up block damage

finishing a pris trial unlocks a new item
finishing a pris trial as the mercenary without taking damage unlocks his alt secondary
other than that, they are just a fun little competition

It's kinda misleading because the PSG hitpoints are displayed in addition to your health pool. So like starting with 100 base HP and picking up a PSG will show (something bigger than 100) / 100

It sounds like you're not practicing stage 2 at all

You should finish the run even if you get hit. Scouting while in a legit attempt is pretty hard to do and only something I could see Cabbage pulling off

Dont know of any cheats that would let you do that easily. The cheats mod only lets you skip one stage at a time and make the tp insta complete

one of the main parts is knowing how to break the crystals without taking dmg

#

optimal way is to animationcancel m1 into whirlwind, and then finish off with dash

#

basically you wind up the m1, let it strike twice, and on the beginning of the 3rd, you press m2

#

the m2 will hit once, then the target will be exposed from the third m1 hitting, then the m2 will hit again

#

takes some practice but you can do it

you already have iframes in that one, you can use it to finish off crystals but it isn't as reliable imo because it targets one enemy at a time, so if an imp gets in there you'll just hit him instead

This seems like one of the easiest console trials I've had

The first boss almost kills itself, and the second is horde of many with preon

It's trickier than first assessed, but not too tricky

#

you could solve the first stage by buying a bunch of turrets and leeading the boss to them, but it takes time

#

if you take the time to do that, second boss becomes a blazing imp overlord instead of blazing impgs

#

so you have to speedrun a bit and defeat the first boss by having them in-fight

#

I tried leading them into the pit, but they can land in geometry and survive, which is not idewal

To clip through that section of wall, just walk through it.
Lemurians will mostly finish each other off, just attack to get aggro and finish off the survivors.
On stage 2, move around cover to avoid wisp snipes.
Plan your preon shots very carefully. I walked up on that...

Please oh gods please I've been stuck on 102/103 achievements for this game trying desperately to beat ethereal wasting upwards of 8 hours every few days for the last few months and I'm kind of starting to lose it.
I love challenges, I do. Why else would I be at 102/103 but for that reason. But I like challenges, things that force you to not just use your monkey brain and bash something harder to win but something that makes you engage with more game mechanics in a fun and interesting way. What I don't like, however, is stuff like this that expect me to have absolute mechanical perfection and an added filter of luck just to screw with results that much more.
I'm broken and desperate and I don't want to waste more of my life to ascend into godhood or breaking the game in some ludicrous and unfun way just to get one achievement. Because I know I'm not the only one who feels like this achievement is problematic at best.
I'm only here because I don't want my frustration to be thrown out into the void anymore, even though I have no idea what to do about this. Maybe it'll call more attention to the achievement and get it changed to be less impossible than it is now so that people like me who adore your game and love to play it casually with friends can actually achieve something cool and kind of hard instead of something that requires absolute perfection.

So just...please, I desperately want something to be done about this.

You could also try paying a newt to get a different enemy on stage 2 even if you're slow, but I can't tell you if that path is easier

I know I'm not the best, far from it. But I don't want my skill to be condescended just because I can't do one of the hardest challenges in this game. It feels wrong to need to commit so much time and thought into this waiting for a 'free trial' that oftentimes I'm just not good enough to accomplish in my shortened timeframes

No, but I actually think I'm close to doing it now (thanks to some of your advice). Turns out the way I like to play just isn't viable whatsoever in this sort of scenario, so instead of attempting insanity I finally chose to adapt instead of being stubborn.

i only went out of bounds for a bit to group the golems for the gasoline. there's a missile drone too but it doesn't really do anything, would not suggest since it can take aggro

Perhaps you're playing with mods on.
Ror2 doesn't allow prismatic trials to be played while mods are enabled, because it would be too cheap.

In regard to the Cabbage route, I had a much easier time clearing stage 1 getting the Armor Piercing Rounds on the right after the jump pad. I stood in that exact spot under the map on that rock face and just slashed at the horde with my M1. APR + Merc's Expose debuff did a pretty good job of clearing them out! Stage 2 was a breeze and I got through it after 3 tries once I locked down the route for Stage 1. I got 95 on the leaderboard with a 2:44.80 (at the time of writing).
