they also have some special modifiers, you start with 50 coins, and there are random Artifacts active, changes with the seed

Guys, the current seed is so good for the mercenary unlock. Just avoid the big chests and the shrines of chance. There's a brooch in the first and second stage.

The trial today is great for merc: ethereal, it's glass artifact with a topaz broach available on the first stage
also with kin artifact with lemurians on the first stage, so no hitscans before you can get the broach

just bob and weave in between strategically using your dashes between enemies to stun and kill them
if you do it fast enough not a lot of them will spawn behind you
I did get the occasional fireball to the back but nothing that was too much of an issue
My problem was that damn rock

i didnt have too many problems with the rock. my biggest problem was always fireballs to the back while going up the ramp to the cave or through the cave to the tele
and then the jellies. so much BS there. i hate jellies enough as it is cause i always get caught right on the edge of their explode zone.

I saved my r for the crystal before the ramp and used the three dashes to go through the lemurians on the way up so they couldnt fireball me

except i actually got to the ramp crystal so fast that not enough lemurians spawned for me to dash though. or in my early attempts slow enough that the lemurians killed themselves on eachother
this is what my path looked like:
special on first crystal
dash on second in a just right position that puts you right behind the crystal
get behind the crystal so that next dash puts you closer to 3rd crystal which gives you the third dash as well
use special right after dash
m2 and sprint to next crystal, use dash when it recharges
special on third crystal
keep m2ing
dash should be recharged by the time the lemurians pop up on the platform
if you are lucky you can chain them
pick up the missile drone on way to tele
if lucky, the missile drone will pick off the last few boss lemurians
special through the tele and hopoo, activating the tele during the special
if drone downed dash to the drone to pick it back up, it is VERY helpful against jellies
take one damage because your foot was caught at the very edge of a jellie's blast radius
give up on life and everything.
that or fireball to back cause you couldnt chain your dash

You can get all the chests on the way to the tp pretty easily. You got a focus crystal, guillotine, and a brooch. Outside the tunnels is a syringe and AP rounds.
There's a little nook over the tp you can hide in
The only thing you had to worry about for this trial was the lemurians' imp-like (imps from doom 2016) fireball tracking

then in stage two i just took out the three i saw on my way to the tele
did it in 4 minutes, 10th place.
i do expect to get bumped down tho

imo tho a "perfect" trial for it would be:
- artifacts consist of kin, sacrifice(overridden by a brooch in a on path chest), and glass and DO NOT have honor, soul, spite, command or swarms.
- monsters are beetle > golems/jelly/imp(is it even possible for a imp to spawn as a second stage enemy?)
- three crystals on direct path to the tele
- path consists of no fall damage risk
last trial was almost perfect in my eyes.

sometimes I take random fall damage using it, it feels like
the end-tail of it also leaves you exposed for uncomfortably long
I mostly use it in my videos so that I don't have to assume the viewer has unlocked anything in particular

It's mostly greens dropping this trial, yeah. Squids are good because they distract, kill, and can't friendly fire so I'd recommend at least one. Fuel cell is also good because of the preon
Guillotines are always a safe bet since stage 2 boss is always an elite

Nope, you can't lose shields either for the purpose of Ethereal
Barrier (yellow hp) is fine tho, you can take damage into barrier and as long as it is completely blocked by barrier you will be eligible for Ethereal

The second fight is very inconsistent because the lemurians tend to miss, and I need to shoot the high-health ones that are too far away from the razorwire. Also the two that spawn away from the rest need to move towards the teleporter, which is far from guaranteed. I didn't feel like grinding out two good fights.

Stage 1 only has the one missile drone. You don't really need anything more than that to beat stage 1 I think, but there's a worrisome rate of wisps spawns
Stage 2 has an absolutely obscene amount of gunner drones
I think that's the key to winning this trial, but farming for them all and and finding them will take time. I think Ghor's tome could be the right item to pick after the boss

I would also recommend grabbing the newt altar and going through the portal and right to stage 2
it changes the boss from the stone titan to elder lemurians, which are much more cheese-able

sometimes you get 3 drops from the first 3 enemies, sometimes you get jack for 5 minutes
the item drop seed will also change per level, so if you get warhorn as the first drop on stage 2, it will always be the first drop on stage 2 no matter how many or few items you got on stage 1

There's many small ways to improve my route since that was like my third try in the video. I wander around pointlessly a lot to look a bit extra for missile drones
I'm speculating that it could be easier to not pick up missile drones on stage 1 since there's danger of friendly fire while attacking the crabs. Then only pick up the drones once you've killed all of them

Yeah.... I have the drone spots memorized at this point, and snag 4 most runs. When it’s not them killing me, it’s the hermit crabs. No matter how much I try to stay mobile, a hail of rocks ends even my best runs

I don't know what pattern you're staying moving in, try changing it to a wide circle between attacks
If you've seen how I fight the vagrant, that's the general strat I employ for Ethereal. Run in, do some blinding assaults (with whirlwind mixed in) , get out using eviscerate, then run a big circle until blinding assault is off cooldown. I only deviate from that when I'm confident in my safety
