(More) Challenging unlocks can be a double edged sword while i dont mind it not everyone has as much time or frankly some are simply worse than others meaning this can gatekeep content from players unless there is an easier way to unlock it which should be provided by the game itself cus if it isnt people will do it themselves with mods and shit. Now i should clarify that i dont think every game should have an easy mode (lets take an example: dark souls, changing the difficulty would change the whole experience probably for the worse and also making it easier would delete all satisfaction from beating a tough boss since well he aint tough anymore) however while challenging unlocks can be satisfying they can also keep a lot of content from players

We can also take hollow knight as another example in the last free dlc (god home) you have to beat most if not all bosses which are also buffed in a row after which you fight an entirely new boss and then a stronger final boss after beating it you get the last ending and max completion (112%(otherwise stuck on 111%)) and this split the community for a while since it was so difficult a lot of people couldnt do it and while it eventually died down difficulty can and will split the community

Hollow Knight offers vast freedom and extremely satisfying gameplay from the moment you finish the tutorial area you can go anywhere u can get into and similarly to metroid you can even get to areas you arent quite supposed to access. The movement and combat are very nice since they blend together so well and combined with the charm system (basically equipment) you can make a build to fit your play style no matter how niche it is.

tbh out of every metroidvania i've played hollow knight feels like the least linear one, once you reach city of tears you can go practically anywhere you want, sure there's a specific path you can take to make things easier but you never quite need to follow it, it's pretty damn incredible the way they did it
and it's different than something like ori and the will of the wisps in which there's quite a few optional areas, a bunch of optional little paths and rooms, ori to me felt like it just hit a point of the game that gave you 4 objectives that you could tackle in each order, but not areas that feel as immersive and overall fun to explore as hollow knight

once you hit the obelisk once, to your right there'll spawn another celestial portal so you can leave! its hard to catch because its not in your peripheral when youre facing the obelisk though 😔

Hey guys. I was just wondering, why sometimes Mithrix just explodes on last phase? Is there any predictable dependency on specific items, time, level? I really want to try to defeat him properly after getting items for a god run, but he just explodes almost every time. 😦
